camping and tunneling used to be considered noob strategies that weren't effective. the idea was that you'd open yourself up to being gen rushed and it was really only effective against bad teams. but then patch 6.1 hit and made gen times significantly longer and killers significantly stronger. prior to this patch only nurse, blight and spirit were really considered competitive killers and literally every other killer was of a similar power level to skull merchant now. that's how bad killers had it back then.

patch 6.1 took nurse, blight and made them overpowered while bringing up the rest of the killers to being reasonably competitive/capable.

and because all the killers were stronger, and gen timers were longer, camping and tunneling went from being considered noob tactics to being considered easy and effective ways to win most games.

for as much as killers will say that "it's the only way to win games" a more accurate statement would be "it's the only way to win almost all of your games". because that's really the difference. if you don't camp or tunnel you're still winning 70% of your games at least if you're any good. but you add camping and tunneling to the mix now and that number can jump above 90% very easily and with streamers we're seeing it being the norm to go on 50, 100, 200+ winstreaks.

so in terms of "what can be changed" to make tunneling/camping less necessary. it's not necessary now, until you consider winning every single game to be necessary.

Where are you getting this “70% win rate” from? As far as we know, the average kill rate is 60%, and that is kill rate not win rate. The typical player is not winning anywhere close to 70% of their killer matches, much less doing it without ever camping or tunneling. I don’t know where you are getting this from.

  • Because sometimes you have to tunnel to have a chance to win against good teams. Survivors will play as efficiently as possible - I don’t blame them, as this is the way I play survivor as well - so killers also need to play as efficiently as possible sometimes to keep up, especially if the odds are stacked against the killer in a given match (SWF on comms, low tier killer, bad map for a specific killer, etc.). Anyone who says “you never have to tunnel under any circumstance” is either being intentionally dishonest or doesn’t play killer at all.

I've been seeing a lot of Jasons, Ghouls, Judgements, and Blights. No Trappers, no Pigs, no Wraiths. Wow turns out nerfing survivors instead of buffing weaker killers backfired. Who could have seen that coming.

    1. Have you actually been keeping track of the frequency of each killer you have been facing? Anybody can say this if they’re not going to provide data to back it up.
    2. Even if you had the data to prove it, you are one player. We are supposed to draw the conclusion that the Sprint Burst nerf was a bad idea based on your individual experience alone?
  • @mecca said:

It's easy to see the new killer was made by BHVR and killer main community, no input from survivor POV.

Have you ever considered that some people actually play both killer and survivor side? Feedback for this killer’s design came from people who play both sides, as they always should to ensure good balance. BHVR is not going to design the killer based on feedback from survivor-only players who want the killer to be as weak and useless as possible. Judgment was literally nerfed upon release based on complaints from survivor players, so don’t act like BHVR is not listening to survivor feedback.

Lots of people here who play survivor have given positive feedback about the new killer. I am a very average survivor player and I’ve enjoyed my matches against the Judgment. It’s not that hard to dodge the ranged attack if you’re 1) paying attention while you’re working on gens or totems and 2) put in a little bit of effort to learn how to mind-game it while in chase.

Also, I thought you said you had uninstalled a while ago so how do you even know what the new killer is like to play against?

    IMG_9571.jpeg
  • All BHVR had to do was not mess with it at all. Literally nobody was asking for this change, yet as has been done so many times in the past, and for the same inexplicable reasons, BHVR decided this was a priority over all the other things that the community have been asking for and are still waiting on.

  • NOED. Killers getting free kills in endgame because they couldn’t get kills before gens were done feels super cheap to me. Survivor side doesn’t have anything similar in terms of rewarding players for not playing well.

  • @Xendritch said:

My killer games have started to feel okay, don't feel like I'm slaughtering 50 hour survivors anymore and they all seem to know what they're doing at least a little bit.

Survivor is still a mess for some reason. soloQ is borderline unplayable and I'm hoping if I just outscore my teammates enough times I'll get put in the right lobbies but gods is it unbearable and slow. Seriously considering putting killer down for a while so I can actually iron out my survivor MMR.

The problem is that we have no idea how much the individual score is weighted for survivor MMR vs how much is weighted based on escaping/not escaping. It could be very minimal for all we know. Even if individual performance is a significant factor in MMR, the garbage matchmaking system that gives up after 5 seconds because short queue times are prioritized so heavily is still in place, so we still have the same problem where MMR doesn’t seem to matter anyway.

  • I have enjoyed playing against the Judgement as survivor. I like the mind-game and guessing aspect of it, and the fact that this killer requires a lot of skill to play well. I’d say it’s a win.

  • I wouldn’t say “massive” stutters, but the game is definitely jankier since the update. I’m guessing it’s the anti-cheat system and I’m already questioning whether it’s worth the game running like crap for many players.

  • There are no boons that are even close to worth running over many other better perks. They range from mediocre at best to downright useless at worst. Whenever a solo queue teammate blesses a totem I roll my eyes because I know the match is already over.

  • BHVR keeps doing this kind of stuff and it’s why I continue to refrain from supporting this game with my $. They keep making unnecessary, bad changes that nobody asked for while ignoring bugs, neglecting older content and refusing to address the non-functional matchmaking system for years.

  • Everyone is going to have a different view of this based on their personal experience. If you’re consistently doing that well in your killer games, then yeah you’re going to think the game is very killer-sided. By the way, kudos to you for doing that well as a low-tier killer. Also kudos to you for backing up your opinion with your actual stats - a lot of people who claim the game is survivor/killer-sided never do that.

BHVR has to balance the game based on the full population stats and not just loud individual voices. The 60% target kill rate seems to be the sweet spot where killer and survivors queues are the most balanced. I remember super long survivor queue times during peak evening hours when the killer rates were lower. Now the wait to play survivor in the evenings is much more reasonable. I did notice that killer queue times were much longer than normal during the recent new killer releases and special events, but in the past few days the killer queue times seem to be back to normal as well.

  • The game definitely felt less responsive after the last update and now it makes more sense. I’ve been getting more used to it, but it still feels janky. Hopefully this gets fixed.

This killer is legit Henry all over again, just pure guess work.

Killer guessed right (or aura perk) and spawns the ray under your feet? well ya getting hit with no counterplay

Killer guesses wrong by a few metres? well ya make a few metres distance til she tries another guess

literally everyone hates henry and you make him all over again, plus all the interaction (flash saves, sabos, pallet saves, wiggle in general is all useless so theres inherently just less interaction

this killer is simply annoying and not fun. dont be surprised when people AFK this shiii

Not “literally” everyone hates Henry. I like going against him. I also like going against Judgment, and so do a lot of other players.

The “guess-slop” as you call it is what makes it fun for many people. Looping any killer or chasing any survivors in this game is “guess-slop”. You are always trying to get a hit or dodge a hit by guessing that they are going to do. Pretty much every game in existence, whether it be video games, board games or sports, have various degrees of guessing what your opponent is going to do and that’s what makes it fun. If you don’t enjoy trying to guess what your opponent is going to do, I can’t think of any game that is going to be fun for you

Or like, is it the MMR doing its job now. Whatever the cause this patch has been really fun for me, I hope this is a sign of things to come.

Looks like, as usual, the anonymous downvote lobbers don’t like that some people actually enjoy the game playing both sides.

Preventing killers from being able to open profiles and blocking names/cosmetics from being seen until end game will solve 90% of killer dodges.

Survivor is a bit trickier since there are legit downsides to having certain teammates.

Why should survivors be allowed to be selective about their teammates but killers not be allowed to be selective about their opponents?

  • I’m not going to support any restrictions/punishment until it’s clear after at least a few weeks that the matchmaking system has improved. Too soon to tell yet.

  • @esoteric0108 said:

im gonna be the one to say it idc, judgement feels horrible to play against and i cant emphasize enough. versing her is literally just guess work. shes henry 2.0 with a side of artist.

ontop of that none of thbem actually play properly they just spam snipes at gens once theyre in zealous mode. shes just another cheese killer like chess merchant was on release. (tho not as bad)

at this rate she might join henry as the tab out and watch youtube for 10 mins kinda killer

I’m a very averaged-skilled survivor player and I have enjoyed my matches against Judgment so far. You are correct that going against her is literally guesswork - and that’s wha many players like about it. It is fun and interactive to try to avoid the ranged attack.

  • @pidgeon said:

    Its a bug

It’s a bug but that makes one wonder how broken the spaghetti code has to be for this kind of thing to happen. Very sad :(

  • Apparently BHVR feels like it’s more important to change the main menu interface and start button, which nobody asked for, than to fix bugs or make any of the many other changes that we have been asking for for years. As long as you all keep spending money on the game, don’t expect them to do anything differently.

  • I enjoyed looping the Judgment. Some of them don’t want to do normal chases and just try to snipe, but the ones that try to do normal chases are fun to loop.

  • I was so disappointed when I saw these changes. There was literally nothing wrong with the previous version. It’s incredibly frustrating that BHVR continues to spend resources on making unnecessary changes that nobody is asking for, yet ignores things that are needed like updating older content, balancing perks, and especially fixing the broken matchmaking system. It’s why I haven’t spent money for several years - they just seem to keep doing their own thing without prioritizing community feedback.

  • I finally had a chance to play a few matches against Judgment and I found the ranged attack pretty easy to mind game/dodge. Unfortunately I was also matched with teammates who couldn’t manage to dodge a visible and audible beam of light from halfway across the map. Killer seems fine if you have semi-competent teammates, which seem few and far between in solo queue anymore.

  • @Wraff said:

I think the Dev's need to play their own creations during PTB's or before major releases to show their work and back up their claims. Playing actual live matches against actual people just to prove they actually play their game.

That’s what the “consultant network” was supposed to be for, but based on some baffling past decisions, I’m not how much of the consultant feedback they actually listen to.

  • Yeah, this happens to me sometimes too. It’s why I hate the MMR system so much. You can be the most skilled player in the game but BHVR’s incredibly stupid MMR system measures your skill in that match to be exactly the same as your terrible teammates if you all die. The announced changes are a good start, but I don’t understand why they are only using the emblem system as part of the MMR score. For inexplicable reasons, they still don’t want to abandon this “escapes/kills = skill” nonsense.

  • I would like to see Judgment gameplay from just one person complaining that this killer is too OP. I’m expecting that isn’t going to happen, and will chalk this up to being the same thing that happens every single time a new killer is released, no matter how strong or weak they are in reality. Survivor players are frustrated that after two matches against this killer that they haven’t immediately mastered the counterplay.

I think most players knew that this killer was going to be super annoying with hex totem builds, but let’s maybe wait longer than 24 hours before declaring this killer to be busted.

  • @Craftlori said:

2v8 is survivor sided. That is not a opinion, it is a fact. For the normal mode it's unclear because both sides have unfair things to abuse but since there are no addons, perks or offerings in 2v8 it's pretty obvious which side has the advantages.

Since 2v8 will return in September and leakers already discovered that not only every class will have a item next time but also get a new item that unlocks the second ability faster and give a speedboost it will become even more survivor sided and the sad thing is it will change absolutely nothing about the queue times.

You could give Survivors in that mode a minigun that allows them to kill the killers and the Killer queue time would still be 30-45+ Minutes because it is the only mode where you can play with a friend on the killer side.

Yeah 2v8 is already in the game a bit but since it's limited it will never get normal queue times.

I’m very open to seeing how this affects queue times. I don’t know what else to do to encourage more survivors players other than giving them shards or auric cells which will never happen. I will reserve judgment until I can play the new 2v8 on both sides.

  • Either it was an intentional buff and they put intentionally misleading comments in the patch notes, or they admitted that they couldn’t figure out how to fix it for like 6 years. Either way, a terrible look.

  • Respectfully, if we have to accommodate every person’s specific religious beliefs in this game, this game would not exist. It’s just not feasible. Everyone has to decide for themselves whether they want to play this game or not.

Fallen refuge is straight up not winnable unless your against trapper.

I understand this map wasn't even meant to exist "A tile when playing the walking dead survivors" but seriously this is miserable.

All it has is one jungle gym, a shack and a "main building"

every other loop is a rock pallet.

At least Dead Sands has line of sight blockers.

But a map this size with no line of sight blockers, just feels bad.

I have to wonder if the only reason this hasn't been changed is to nerf the withered isle or more specifically Garden of joy.

And yes I did just get destroyed by a kaneki on this map

Everyone agrees that this map is a pile of garbage and should be deleted. Killer and survivor players alike should support this.

  • @Wyndsor said:

Most maps are being designed/balanced to be like this.

Notice how killer players never bring up this map and that should tell you everything you need to know.

That being said, if you break the static 3-gen at the 'main building,' you can still win, but that relies on the killer being bad.

Why do you keep saying “killer players never bring up this map” when you know it isn’t true? I have seen many content creators who play both sides mention this map on as being extremely bad for survivors and I myself have personally mentioned this map on this forum as being garbage for survivors multiple times.

It’s also not even remotely close to being true that “most maps are being designed/balanced to be like this”. Everyone knows that this map is uniquely terrible for survivors and nobody is arguing against, but for some reason you keep bringing it up as some kind of indisputable evidence that BHVR are biased against survivor players.

  • 100%. This happens to me often as well and it’s because there are so many in solo queue who still don’t know the basics of how to play survivor.

  • Chalk it up to BHVR refusing to buff low-tier killers. Like you said, other better killers would have been after to get that 2nd kill in your situation. Nobody should be surprised that they see the same high tier killers in all their matches at higher skill levels.

  • Respectfully, this is a terrible idea. This would result in far more quitting and giving up than there already is.

This exact post is post number 10,000 on my account, and to celebrate this milestone I figured I'd try and push for a little bit of positivity on the forums!
Plus being a bit sappy at the end, I think I've earned it.

So, here's the question to spread the positivity: What are you guys enjoying the most about Dead By Daylight right now?
I can start: I'm really enjoying Houndmaster. She has her bugs and they are annoying, but when you get a smooth game with her there is very little in the game as satisfying as what she can offer. Outplaying survivors with Snug, whether it's at a pallet or correctly predicting a long-range snipe without line of slight, feels amazing.

It helps that she's pretty damn strong, too, and very versatile. She's rapidly becoming one of my favourite killers in the game!

And, for the sappy part… I love this place. It's grown to be quite a big chunk of my recreational time, I spend time lurking and reading posts even when I'm not posting myself and I don't see that changing any time soon. It'll be twenty thousand before you know it!

Congrats on 10K! I truly value the opinions of those who have been here far longer than I have

  • It’s been a long time since I’ve been a brand new player, but I agree that this game is absolutely miserable for new players.

I’ll start by saying that there are some people who have been playing for a long time that only play one side who will always complain about how “unfair” the game is. My comments are not aimed at these players.

As someone who has played both sides since I started, here is my honest opinion. Killer side is very easy for new players as long as you are matched against inexperienced survivors. Once you start getting matched against survivor who know what they are doing, the game becomes much more difficult.

Survivor side is extremely overwhelming for new players. When I started playing, I had a group of friends that played with me, but they all quit pretty quickly because of how difficult it is to learn all the different perks and how to counter all the different killer powers. So I can sympathize with players who feel like survivor side is difficult to learn. But I stuck with it, practiced a lot, watched a lot of YouTube videos to learn how to play survivor better, and I actually got better. I didn’t blame game balance and I didn’t blame BHVR for somehow intentionally screwing over survivor players.

The thing that makes this game so difficult for both sides to learn now is the massive mountain of content that is in the game now. Even for me, someone who has played this game for years, it’s a challenge to keep up with. I completely understand how this must feel for new players that have to learn 40-+ killers, hundreds of perks on both sides. It’s just way too much. If I was just starting to play this game now, I would have immediately given up as well.

  • @mecca said:

That's simply because they've nerfed survivors over and over for like 10 years and power creep killers into oblivion.

No - the only players who feel this way are players who only play survivor side. If you would try playing killer side as well, you would realize that the balance really hasn’t changed that much.

Worst part is some good subtle who is like sometimes speeding behind cors with few % of haste and haste like 10-20% faster repair or healing speed plus runs walls can play for very very long time if he is cautios which is nutts to think about it but they exist and are incrediably hard to spot them like these subtles can be in many of your games and you didnt have even clue they were cheating.

Yeah this happens to me all the time. Once they break line of sight, survivors end up halfway across the map. It’s sad and pathetic that some players need to do this to win.

  • I haven’t seen more than usual. But that just means I’ve seen the normal amount of cheaters which is sadly pretty frequent. BHVR’s anti-cheat system is useless and their reporting system is incredibly cumbersome, so it’s no surprise that cheaters continue to run rampant.

  • I would love to be able to block every bad solo queue teammate I’ve had in the past, but it’s never going to happen. There are just way too many mediocre/bad players who would be blocked by everyone else and never get to play if this was implemented.

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/471411/wraith-needs-some-changes

Generally i want BHVR to look at Ghoul and Nurse more then Wraith. Wraith is pretty balanced.

OP is being sarcastic about Wraith because of the nerfs to the new killer that resulted from a streamer who said they got hit from long range because they were distracted by their stream chat. This is just sarcasm and nothing more - we all know Wraith is fine 😊

  • Uh… the queue times in 2v8 aren’t long because it’s not interesting enough for killer player. It’s a massive deficit of survivor player that is making 2v8 killer queue times super long. Nothing needs to be changed on the killer side. This mode needs to be made more interesting/attractive to survivor side to help balance the queue times.

  • It’s pretty predictable how new killers will be nerfed.

Licensed killers: nerf months later after everyone paid for the killer

Non-licensed killers: nerf immediately after mass survivor-only player complaints

I will answer as best as I can. My escape rate is probably around the desired 40%. I could probably push it higher if I played for the escape but I generally don't because sitting on gens is simply not fun. Escaping doesn't equal a feel of power or fighting back in the Survivor role. Saving and playing aluristic is exciting but so damn niche and risky that you probably end up throwing by even attempting to do it.

I've also noticed that the games we do win as Survivor seem to always be against a newer player or a low tier Killer. They obviously aren't great in the role or I got the 1 out of 10 good teammates and we outplay low tier Killers. The sweats always beat us in Solo Q. I imagine I bounce back and fourth between the lower MMR and Higher or the Q is just thorwing us all together to decrease wait time… who really knows?

As Killer I would say I could 3k to 4k 60% to 70% of the time with Killers that I have practice with and play well. Nurse, Blight, Mastermind, Spirit are my go to Killers that I enjoy playing. Often times I make decisions not to tunnel for example. If I see an unfortunate situation where I keep downing the same Survivor, I will leave them on the ground and leave so they can be picked up. If I played sweaty, I'm sure I could increase this to near 80% Kill rate. And I've been Survivor main for probably the past three years now.

Thanks for answering my questions. If your kill rate is really that high then that should push you up into the very high range of MMR but I do know that the matchmaking system doesn’t work so maybe you’re just not consistently getting matched against experienced survivors. Anyway, based on your personal experience, I can see why you feel the way you do. I have about the same experience as survivor but on the killer side I don’t consistently have kill rates that high. I don’t play a lot so maybe I’m just not that good, but when I face good survivor teams, especially coordinated ones, I have to work quite hard and/or use “unfun” tactics to have a chance to win.

Anyway, appreciate your view on this topic!

Survivor is in this game is nearly powerless compared to the other A sym games I enjoy. They have a common theme, AI spawned mobs to fight and you can even fight back against the "killer" directly with weapons.

The most we can do in DBD is try to save a teammate that is downed or carried. If the Killer brings Lightborn all you can do is try to Sabotage. It's extremely risky and often just ends up with the Killer having another lined up chase and down.

The answer to everything seems to be "just do gens". I'm sorry guys, gens aren't fun.

But you still didn’t answer my questions. How is your actual performance in the game on both survivor and killer side? I’m asking because I want to understand whether you’re actually never escaping as survivor / always winning as killer, or if maybe you’re actually doing just fine (at least compared to the average escape/kill rates) and it’s more of a matter of your expectations

I think it's more of a matter of how the game feels to play. I play both as well and have about a 70% kill rate and a 55% escape rate but the survivor experience is ultimately reliant on more factors. you experience way more problems caused by other people, if you load into a game and you have a teammate crouch walking around the map its just an immediate sign this game is probably going to suck, if you load into a game and someone is getting hard tunneled while another teammate or even both teammates are trying to disrupt and save them and just getting beat down in the process the game is probably going to suck and so on down the line. a lot of killer powers that lean on the obnoxious side of things like Legion and Plague feel gratifying to play as but absolutely not against… so its a ton of things built on top of eachother to make you feel like you have no recourse in a lot of games other than to wait out hatch.

The experience just isn't the same as killer… and I am not trying to imply killer can't have bad games but there is less that can happen which isn't your own fault that can directly lose to your loss. if a survivor is trying way too hard to get a save or a sabo you just down them and move on but thats like a game defining failure for the other survivor players they had no part in…

I think the competitive nature which DBD has slowly eased further and further into feels way worse to play survivor in as opposed to playing killer in. It is much easier to pick up a killer and learn to play them than it is to learn to play survivor effectively against all killers. it's like a lot of the negatives that are naturally brought about by this game are piled on survivor disproportionately when compared to killer.

I don’t disagree with what you’re saying, but all that has been true for basically the game’s entire existence. I don’t understand why some people are saying that the game is somehow worse than ever for survivor players.

I haven't logged in Survivor for almost a week now.

It's kinda nice not being completely powerless.

    These games deserved better.

”Completely powerless”? How often are you escaping? And related question - do you play killer and are you winning every single match? If the survivor role is as bad as you seem to think it is, then it should show in your performance in the game. I’m a casual solo player and am still having fun playing both sides, so when I hear people say stuff like this I get quite skeptical.

“Thrill is only now getting a change”. Yeah, well same for Vigil, which was a very powerful perk for a long time that you would see just about everyone use in every high level match. Not sure how this supports your view that BHVR somehow wants to purposely screw over survivor players.

And if you think totem builds with Thrill are so busted, why don’t you try playing killer with a quad hex build for 10 matches and let us know how it went? Show us that you can consistently win this way, because if it’s really true that anyone can do this I must be playing the game all wrong as killer.

1 2 3 4 … 13
