You guys throw the ban hammer at anyone with an opinion you don't like and wonder why engagement has declined?
LMAO!
-
On Suvivor side, I focus on the micro plays. Escaping is an afterthought. If I can run a good chase or save a teammate,, it's a GG.
On Killer, I just chill and try to make good plays. Don't really worry much about gens, just practice efficient chases and getting better with Killer's I like. When you get better in chase, everything else falls into place.
-
We lost Pallets but gained vault speed. Considering Lithe is probably the best exhaustion perk now, it's not a bad trade. You can also run 5 Moves Ahead which is now more relevant.
I've seen worse guts to Survivor Perks. Not too worried about this one.

It's pretty easy to gauge the overall sentiments of the communities respectively.
there's been an extremely consistent outcry from survivor players for a long time about the degradation of an enjoyable experience for the survivor side.
Further proof is that killers still most frequently and consistently tunnel at 5, I see that in more of my games than anything else, and the recurrent justification is "that it's efficient, and part of the game". as a matter of fact verifiably toxic mechanics like Slugging for a 4k (Twins Special) and Hard Tunneling are openly endorsed by both BHVR and killer mains as "a valid way to win" without considering or even admitting that it isn't fun for anyone else in the game and if there was a "Forefeit" option the killer would be left alone in 90% of the lobbies that they try to do that in because the burden of interaction lies with the killer, and choosing to tunnel at 5 is the most efficient way to curb stomp most middle MMR and low MMR lobbies, it's also extremely uninteractive… 3 people just sit on gens while the killer proxies and waits for them to come back to the hook over and over, it's predictable and boring. that proves killer intent to "win at all costs" VS "have an engaging game" and it's such a prevalent sentiment that it occupies the most heated discussions on the forums all the time. and it's even reinforced by the complaints that survivors are bodyblocking off of hook, which led to the nerf of BT on hook. they don't want to interact or chase, they want to win ASAP in a great majority of the games I am in.
Technically speaking its most efficient for survivors to sit on gens no matter what and just crank them out to rush to the escape gates as soon as possible but you really don't see that very much in regular games, it's another long time gripe of solo queue players that teammates are up to some nonsense while other things are going on… that's because the stripped down gameplay objective for survivor is boring and so people want to engage with the killer, the only way to do that is to practically make the killer engage with you anymore, they'll run past you to continue to tunnel, they'll run Lightborn so you can't even try to save other survs with flashlights, they'll run back into the hook as soon as they know you're headed for it because then its free hits and often a hook trade. that's what the mid MMR solo queue experience is like.
That is why I went the route of mentioning Content Creators, because everyone knows that Tutorial content in DBD is extremely lacking and that it has a very high percentage of players with 1000s of hours. people go to content creators for game information, that much is a fact.
Killer CCs are almost always entirely focused on winning however possible, the videos are marketed that way. it's either "So and so wannabe SWF rages after I kill them" or "This new build for the -insert killer- is PURE EVIL". meanwhile survivor videos are "DBD Late at Night" "Running this Meme Build" with the occasional "Run these perks to last longer in chase". if you are a new player and you look up DBD content for killer there is an excess of tutorial content from other players, for survivor it really comes down to watching someone who is very good at the game clown around for 10-20 minutes.
And I can speak to my own sentiment as well. I play 80/20 (survivor main) and the only reason I don't play killer is because it's uncompelling from a fun standpoint… killers are bland and interaction with survivors is very much limited from years of core gameplay that encourages people to hold W and avoid a chase while completing gens. you can play survivor with friends and just have a generally good time. Solo Queue is borderline unplayable these days, most games decided in the first few minutes and very few outlets for survivors to do anything about it."Watch me equip this broken build on a strong killer and Smash pubs."
I Hope you enjoy!
-
"We won't explain MMR or any way for you to tell what your MMR actually is."
Just real amazing stuff coming from BHVR lately.
-
The constant Killer hand holding and power creep has made it so brain dead.
It's constant aura reveal and teleport / traverse., now just beam spam with no looping.
Killing the interactive loop skill or any ability to make good plays.
I've been off Survivor for about a month and play a couple Killer's still.
Perk rework was more trash for Survivor. Who could have seen that coming?
-
Aura read and beam spam until they win!
Oh, you're not having fun?
-
I hope the 58 Perk update puts Survivor back to a playable state but I wouldn't hold my breath on that.
-
I can understand the frustration but you can turn the chat window off. You never have to look at it if you dont want to and honestly it's a waste of energy to engage with it. I Leave mine open simply to type GG and LOL when people rage, it doesn't affect me.
If it does affect you as an aspiring Killer player or while playing low tier Killers, I would turn it off.
-
Scratched Mirror denies interactive play.
Survivors are stuck in a game loop expecting a terror radius to give them a cue that the Killer is close by. Mirror removes that interaction entirely. If they do manage to see you coming they are now in a looping situation with no red stain either.
So the add-on in effect destroys much of the classic interaction and gameplay loop of the match for Survivors and leaves them in many situations where they are left wondering, "what the hell was I even supposed to do?"
It's a meme fun for Killers and jump scares.
-
Her Snow ball potential is insane and She starts the match with it. Her ability to protect Ruin and force you to dogde off Gens every 6 seconds is bonkers. If She starts to snowball it's pretty much GG.
I've landed hits on people I wasn't even targeting while chasing someone else.
Her three gen lockdown is nuts but honestly we're typically dead well before that.
-
If we nerf more Survivor Perks, I bet it gets even better!
-
BHVR forgot how to Limit a Killers power.
Let's look at Oni.
Oni has hyper mobility and an instant down… pretty powerful.
Does Oni start with this Power? No.
Oni must find a Survivor, engage in a traditional M1 Looping scenario and score a hit. He then needs to collect enough blood to activate His power.
Judgement.
Starts the match with their power on a 6 second CD… that's it. Gets more powerful after Exile.
Jason has a 12 second CD on OE… that's it. Can reload while chasing, (i'm not counting reload) even though it is a slight limitation, nothing compared to other reload characters.
Krasue at least had to infect Survivors first providing some limitation but she was so overtuned on release it didn't matter.
-
Now the only safe build for Survivors is Gen rush because you don't want half your build negated by the Killer you get.
Lame.
-
Don't talk about my girl that way!
She's perfect!

1 guy looping an m1 killer all game while you sit on gens isn't fun either.
Trying to save that guy when they go down with a flashlight or Sabotage build can be fun but She ignores Hooks as well…
Womp womp.
Generators it is!
-
BHVR forgot how to balance new and Powerful Killers with Something to limit their Power.
The most obvious way is a Cool Down but you can do it in other creative ways too.
Let's look at Oni for example. A pretty solid Killer.
Oni must find and engage a Survivor in a traditional M1 Looping senario, land a hit and collect their blood before he can use power with hyper mobility and an insta-down. The Power itself requires practice and skill to use.
Judgement in comparison.
Starts the match with her Power on a 6 second Cool Down… that's it. And after her Exile, her Power gets better.
There is no attempt to balance out the Killer's Power, they did the same thing with Jason and Krasue on release.
I beleive you could leave Judgement mostly how she is but if she beams a Survivor without Heresy, it won't injure, only apply Heresy and Aura Reveal. Then she can try to snipe you for injury and Downs. An extra step is all She really needs, kinda like Artist. In Zealous mode she should be able to injure and apply Heresy for limited time only.
You have to balance it out, you can't go all gas no brakes.
-
"Just do gens" is why I havent logged in Survivor.
How about no? That's not fun, like at all.
-
It's not so much an issue of "playing properly". The Killer is designed to play this way. The problem is it forces the Survivors to play a very limited and boring game.
Basically all you can do is sit on Gens and dodge snipes.
Flashlights and Sabotage builds are useless. The killer has no incentive to play tradtional loops. I would even shy away from Perks that require Hooks to activate. Leaving you with a very limited game that ignores most all of the core gameplay mechanics.
-
You're supposed to do Gens, dodge snipes and quit running hook Perksn no Sabotage builds and don't bring flashlights.
fun game!
-
Killer instinct on noisy Survivors, running, doing gens, injured etc. Within a 32m.
Blind to everything else, Aura reveals do not work.
Leap attack sort of like Ghoul but no cheesy free hit garbage because that's trash.
-
It's a secret recipe that BHVR will only half-ass explain in some stream somewhere one time.

That is true, but also true for many other killers.
Healing builds are useless against legions and plagues.
Hook/Unhook perks are less efficient against pyramid head.
DS suffers against final hook mori mechanics.
The problem is bigger than this killer.
Agreed.
-
@Angy_Quentin said:
Judgement also does not get to activate any hook related perks. It's a tradeoff.
Yeah, so as Judgement you don't bring hook Perks.
But Survivor doesn't know who they are up against and half your build is ruined by the Killer you get.
-
Haven't logged in Survivor for 2 weeks now.

Built in Killer power ignores unhook Perks and your flashlights are useless...

Midwich is a terrible map.
Aura reveal is a key component that changed this game from hide and seek to cat and mouse. Along with power creep Killers, hyper mobility and teleporting across the map.
The future of this game is pretty bleak, I'm afraid.
Comms wheel is not going to change anything. You need a full sweat squad and god tier loopers.
Just do gens!
-
Aura reveal has been too strong for a long time.
It's normalized and accepted hand holding.
-
The amount of nerfing required to bring Ghoul closer to Trapper would make Ghoul mains Uninstall.
The amount of Buffs to bring Ghostface up to Jason would make Solo beg for mercy.
-
Do you hate your life and enjoy the misery of Solo Q?
*Slaps computer
Boy have I got a deal for you!
-
"Just do gens."
😐
-
Many Survivors don't play like it's a ranked tournament. They are just trying to have fun.
Shocking!
-
The que times will continue until Survivor gets better.
-
You have to be up for the challenge of playing Survivor. It's literally intended by design for you to die more often then escape.
It's what had kept me playing for 1500 hours.
Now it just feels like a moving goal post, trying to keep up with constant power creep Killer's and Perk nerfs.

Thanks for answering my questions. If your kill rate is really that high then that should push you up into the very high range of MMR but I do know that the matchmaking system doesn’t work so maybe you’re just not consistently getting matched against experienced survivors. Anyway, based on your personal experience, I can see why you feel the way you do. I have about the same experience as survivor but on the killer side I don’t consistently have kill rates that high. I don’t play a lot so maybe I’m just not that good, but when I face good survivor teams, especially coordinated ones, I have to work quite hard and/or use “unfun” tactics to have a chance to win.
Anyway, appreciate your view on this topic!
Notice, my roster of Killers I play. They are on the higher end of Tier list. I'm not sure that I'm really that good or just don't play Killer enough to maintian High MMR. Mix that with the fact that Que times matter more than accurate MMR matching and who knows? I have over 2k hours. 1500 of that is probably Survivor side.
Too many variables hidden in data we never really see or get to know exactly how it works. All I know is I can smash most Solo Q with my favorite Killers and I don't even try very hard to do so.
-
I don't understand how they claim neutrality when the desired Kill rate is 60%
That obviously favors Killers by 10%
I do believe that it has the intended effect of maintaining and even growing the player base though. That alongside the monopoly they have on horror IP's.
Catering to the content creators and their audience has worked out for them. It's the only A sym that survives. Kinda hard to argue against it from this perspective.
But there is a fine line, how far they can push this. They've pushed me out of the Survivor role. Nearly out of the game altogether.

But you still didn’t answer my questions. How is your actual performance in the game on both survivor and killer side? I’m asking because I want to understand whether you’re actually never escaping as survivor / always winning as killer, or if maybe you’re actually doing just fine (at least compared to the average escape/kill rates) and it’s more of a matter of your expectations
I will answer as best as I can. My escape rate is probably around the desired 40%. I could probably push it higher if I played for the escape but I generally don't because sitting on gens is simply not fun. Escaping doesn't equal a feel of power or fighting back in the Survivor role. Saving and playing aluristic is exciting but so damn niche and risky that you probably end up throwing by even attempting to do it.
I've also noticed that the games we do win as Survivor seem to always be against a newer player or a low tier Killer. They obviously aren't great in the role or I got the 1 out of 10 good teammates and we outplay low tier Killers. The sweats always beat us in Solo Q. I imagine I bounce back and fourth between the lower MMR and Higher or the Q is just thorwing us all together to decrease wait time… who really knows?
As Killer I would say I could 3k to 4k 60% to 70% of the time with Killers that I have practice with and play well. Nurse, Blight, Mastermind, Spirit are my go to Killers that I enjoy playing. Often times I make decisions not to tunnel for example. If I see an unfortunate situation where I keep downing the same Survivor, I will leave them on the ground and leave so they can be picked up. If I played sweaty, I'm sure I could increase this to near 80% Kill rate. And I've been Survivor main for probably the past three years now.

”Completely powerless”? How often are you escaping? And related question - do you play killer and are you winning every single match? If the survivor role is as bad as you seem to think it is, then it should show in your performance in the game. I’m a casual solo player and am still having fun playing both sides, so when I hear people say stuff like this I get quite skeptical.
Survivor is in this game is nearly powerless compared to the other A sym games I enjoy. They have a common theme, AI spawned mobs to fight and you can even fight back against the "killer" directly with weapons.
The most we can do in DBD is try to save a teammate that is downed or carried. If the Killer brings Lightborn all you can do is try to Sabotage. It's extremely risky and often just ends up with the Killer having another lined up chase and down.
The answer to everything seems to be "just do gens". I'm sorry guys, gens aren't fun.

I don’t disagree with what you’re saying, but all that has been true for basically the game’s entire existence. I don’t understand why some people are saying that the game is somehow worse than ever for survivor players.
Survivors where in a much stronger place before all the best Perks got Nerfed.
The past Like 10 Killer's all have super mobility or some kind of teleport.
Aura reveal is too strong and when you start digging into Killer add-ons, most players probably aren't even aware when or how they are being revealed without encyclopedic knowledge of the game.
Yes, there are a ton of pallets. Half the Killer powers laugh at them.
-
I use them sometimes, depends who I am playing. I do this quirky thing where I try to use any of the teachable perks that aren't trash from each Survivor, kinda makes them feel like less of a skin and keeps my builds varied and fresh.
I don't want to run the same old meta every game. This is my personal preference.
-
I haven't logged in Survivor for almost a week now.
Been revisiting some other A sym games that I really enjoy. Evil Dead the game and Resident Evil Resistance.
It's kinda nice not being completely powerless.
These games deserved better.

Eh, I don't think a perk should impact multiple killers' base power effect. Vigil was incredibly free and basically gave you a disgusting edge in the Trial against Clown and Freddy specifically.
That's fine. Enjoy your que times!
-
They've gutted Survivor in their quest for 60% kill rate.
Enjoy!
-
I think BHVR went a little overboard with Jason to make sure he was a strong Killer. Like nobody realised that the Killer has no downside?
Unlimited OE
Haste out of OE
Tracking in OE
No reload time
How much hand holding does it take to fabricate a 60% kill rate?

@vol4r said:
Few reasons actually. It comes down to less survivior playing and more killers playing.
For me (reasons why I play survivor muuuuch less)
- Survivior is getting constantly nerfed because 1% swfs are better than killers
- Anti tunnel system scrapped, even tho it had amazing things for killer as basekit
- Flashbangs massively nerfed
- Pallets saves nerfed or bugged
- Only med-kits and toolboxes are viable
- You have to be efficient as a whole team to win the games, you can't mess around anymore
- very strong killers are being released, overtuned mostly
- Playing killer brings me more fun
- surviviors giving up or being in different skill level or just trolling
My friends also left dbd.
Our friend group went from 2-3 people waiting for a slot to be free to barely anyone playing.
They decided that dbd isn't fun or entertaining to them anymore. That's depressing if you ask me.Bro, My kids got playing DBD years ago. Now they won't even touch it.
I've tried to get friends into it and they always try to stealth. I'm like nah bro, stealth isn't really a thing. The Killer probably knows where you are and then they quit.

So you never escape? I play solo queue, I’m a very casual player, and am usually around the average 40% escape rate. In my own experience it’s not nearly as bad as you’re describing. It’s very possible to escape in solo queue, but it’s not going to happen every match. In a horror game where killer should be the power role, escaping 40% of the time feels very fair to me.
I do escape when the Killer player is obviously bad. Get to end screen and it's a baby doctor with one green perk.
How do I get paired with a baby Doctor one match and then a P70 Jason on the next?
The disparity between classic Killers and modern ones isnt enough, we also get brand new palyers and P70 Jasons in the same que?
-
The disparity between classic M1 Killer's with no mobility and that past several Killer's we've gotten all have mobility is an issue that not easily balanced.
Solo Survivors compared to SWF also not easily balanced.
Any time Survivors get a useful perk it's just on borrowed time before it gets nerfed because if the Killer's don't eat good, we have no game.
I honestly don't know how BHVR is going to save the health of this game.
I log in, play two or three matches, realise it's not fun and log off.
Sitting on hook, not fun. Laying on ground, not fun. Sitting on gens, not fun.
Chase and making saves is the only excitement on the Survivor side. Chase has even got annoying because pallets and windows, even though there's a ton of them, many Killer powers make them nearly useless.
Try to Flashlight save and the Killer has complete Lightborn counter for the entire match.
Generator skill check simulator is not gonna keep me playing.
