Um, survivor perks are not supposed to have impact on the game. Only killer perks. This is how BHVR and killer-only mains want it.

If the game is so terrible for survivors, why haven’t you ever tried playing killer to see if it’s really as easy as you think it is?

    3) reduce SWF getting boosted too much because of their comms advantage making it easier to gen rush and win quick matches with few chases

Is there a reason why we wouldn't want to boost SWFs? If they're gen rushing and beating up on weak killers and then get matched up with better killers, good.

Yeah I wasn’t thinking about that one the right way. My proposal would weight individual performance for SWF less, which is more punishing for teams that win matches not because they are performing well individually but because they are getting gens done really quickly with coordination. You’re correct - that would be a good thing

  • @Brimp said:

CoH, Deserved, DH, Deserved, Sprint Burst, Slap on the wrist, Vigil, Deserved.

Agree. But you’ll never convince the downvoters who don’t play killer and never have to deal with good survivors running these perks constantly match after match.

  • @Mandy said:

To be clear here, the Emblem system is not what we're going back to, its based around it…its not going to be a direct 1-1.

Something to think about: would it make sense to weight the individual performance more for people who are in solo queue vs those who are in SWF? This would 1) make it more rewarding for solo queue players who do very well individually but don’t escape because of random bad teammates, 2) reduce solo queue players from getting boosted too much by escape luck, and 3) reduce SWF getting boosted too much because of their comms advantage making it easier to gen rush and win quick matches with few chases

Maybe something like individual performance is 2/3 of MMR score for solo players and scales down to only 1/3 of MMR score for 4-man SWF, and 2-3 SWF are something in between.

i mean he has a pretty good power that can cover distances, not to mention clear pallets within seconds, and help him out strongly in chase. it does not seem that needed? Could just be me being a sore bum idk

Knight is very mid-tier in his current state. There is no reason to nerf him. If you think he’s way too good you should try playing a few matches as him and I think your mind will change.

  • Getting matched with brand new players or teammates that are just bad at the game, no matter your own personal skill level, is nothing new. That’s been happening for years because the matchmaking system does not work.

  • @GentlemanFridge said:

That would require defining what a win is, which varies per player.

Maybe I’m wrong, but I feel like it’s pretty universally accepted that a win is escaping as survivor (with all gens done and gate open) or 3-4K as killer. Now keep in mind that “win” doesn’t necessarily translate to “skill”, which BHVR still doesn’t seem to understand. You can do nothing all match as survivor and still escape because the rest of your team was really good or you can 3-4K as killer with very little skill if the survivor team is just messing around or not very good.

  • This killer is going to be very difficult to play - kind of like Nurse, but maybe even more difficult. But a very high skills ceiling means that like Nurse, could be very oppressive in the hands of an expert player. I think she’ll be especially oppressive on builds dedicated to hexes and totem defense. This will be extremely annoying as survivor to go against, especially if you’re not able to coordinate on comms with your teammates.

  • As an experienced player with multiple thousand hours, getting matched with brand new players, which happens all the time. I know that this can happen with lobby backfills, and I have seen that happen, but most of the time it’s not a backfill lobby. It’s just the non-functional matchmaking system that BHVR will probably never fix.

  • Yet somehow we still have all-time high killer queue times. So there are more than enough people who seem to think the killer experience is fine in 2v8. The queue times say that we need to buff survivor side in 2v8 even more, not the other way around. Honestly we need to make the killer side less appealing than it is now to help address the insanely long queue times.

You're likely added to those libbies because someone else dodged them already. Once players are waiting for too long the range widens until it just grabs the next available person.

No - I can tell when it’s a backfill when it’s not. I still get matched with brand new players all the time even when it’s not a backfill lobby.

  • The best way to minimize lobby dodging is to finally do something about the non-functional matchmaking system. As a multiple thousand hour players I’m not going to stick around in a solo queue lobby when I see my teammates have low double digit hours, which happens all the time. BHVR have refused to address this glaring problem for years.

I don’t know why some survivors get so bent out of shape when they don’t escape a majority of their matches.

How many killers would be having fun if we flipped 60% KR to a 40% KR?

I’m sure not many. But we already know from history what happens when the average kill rates are lower than 60%. I remember in my early days of playing the game when kill rates were lower that during peak evening hours I would be waiting 15 minutes or more to queue into a survivor match. More recently, before the Jason chapter, queue times were much better balanced during peak times and it was nice not having to wait so long to play survivor in the evenings. Since then, killer queue times are definitely longer than I can ever remember, which was the whole point of me creating this post - trying to figure out why. It certainly could be because the balance has swung too far in favor or killer, but in my personal experience playing both sides I don’t see what has fundamentally changed with balance.

Seems a lot of survivor players took your advice to not play. Hope killers enjoy the long queue times while continuing to say everything is fine and balanced.

That’s their choice and I’d do the same if I wasn’t having fun in the game. I’m just saying that I still have plenty of fun playing both sides and I don’t know why some survivors get so bent out of shape when they don’t escape a majority of their matches.

Do you abandon any matches? I keep asking this because the stats page treats those matches as if they never happened. The stats site has my escape rate at above 40% but I know it's ignoring a decent chunk of matches I abandoned because of a team slug or slug for the 4k. I have no idea how inflated the escape rate it displays is. It's been an issue since they introduced the site and abandons and official sources ignore the issue, at this point the inflation feels intentional.

I’m just going by my own tracking of matches and the stats that BHVR have reported in the past that show a 40% average escape rate (or much better if you are playing high MMR SWF). People here can choose to not believe that and downvote if they want. I don’t know what else to tell you other than if you’re not having fun as survivor or feel like you should be escaping way more often, then work to improve (I found survivor much more enjoyable once I learned how to loop consistently) or just don’t play if you’re practicing a lot and still not having fun.

  • @GroovieAshes said:

The current state of Solo is pretty miserable. You are constantly aura read and tracked. The Killer traverses the map in seconds. Pallets and windows have become nearly useless against many Killer powers.

Many matches are just the Killer ping ponging from one down and hook to another and then back again until everyone is dead.

So you never escape? I play solo queue, I’m a very casual player, and am usually around the average 40% escape rate. In my own experience it’s not nearly as bad as you’re describing. It’s very possible to escape in solo queue, but it’s not going to happen every match. In a horror game where killer should be the power role, escaping 40% of the time feels very fair to me.

  • Maybe BHVR did something about this stuff 7 years ago, but they certainly don’t do anything about it today. My multitude of reports with zero responses are proof of that.

I never meant to imply slurs and such were allowed, I'm saying a degree of 'trash talk' is allowed, which is like the example I put in my post.

The stuff with slurs yeah they have logs but I think if you do a proper report with proof, it's a guaranteed ban. Their ban system I believe is an escalating one so the more a person gets banned the longer it gets (Outside of permanent ban offenses like cheating etc).

It’s not a guaranteed ban, not even close. I’ve reported many people for death wishes, racial/homophobic slurs, etc and not a single report has gotten a response from BHVR. In my experience it’s guaranteed that you won’t get banned for that kind of stuff.

  • The only concern I have is that it’s never going to happen. How long have we been promised this supposed matchmaking/MMR rework with nothing delivered yet?

When confronted, he said ‘you think the devs intended for that?’ I said yeah, and used the countless exit gate trapping add ons and end game perks that were adding in by the devs to facilitate end game builds and haven’t been removed so clearly it’s intended. He then proceeded to double down…. Saying it wasn’t intended 🫩 guess this guy knows more than the devs make him ceo.

Some people will be salty about losing no matter what. Just ignore and move on.

  • There’s nothing BHVR can do about it. The best thing to minimize the “us vs them” is for everyone to play both roles so they gain an understanding about the pain points of each role and what happens to the experience of one side when they demand buffs/nerfs for the other side. BHVR can’t force people to play both killer and survivor.

  • Not in my experience, no. I’ve reported people for chat harassment many times and not once has BHVR ever taken action against them.

The fact your comment is getting so many downvotes just for saying this goes to show some people come to this forums just to rant and throw hate after they had bad matches. What you said is very obviously right, but somehow it seems it angered some people.

The only reason that comments like that get downvoted is because there are some here who fully embrace the “us vs them” tribalism because they only play one side. They love feeling like they are the victim and that the devs are somehow conspiring to make “their side” as miserable as possible, which makes absolutely no sense from a business perspective.

anonymity isn't the only factor, the total lack of consequences is equally as important a component

i'm not even talking about bans specifically, bhvr never discuss the bigotry and toxicity problems they cultivate, never make a point of telling people acting that way is unacceptable, and never make statements about any plan to address them

Yep - it’s the total lack of consequences. People know that they can say the most vile and hateful things to others in the post-game chat and never worry about getting banned.

And apparently people are still saying killer is horrible to play

The numbers speak for themselves, not kill rates, not escape rates, actually the ratio of people queueing for killer vs survivor.

Yeah that’s the thing I don’t understand. Who is saying that killer is horrible to play? I play killer about half the time and it seems fine to me most of the time. I don’t play S-tier killers and I will get stomped if I’m facing a coordinated SWF team of skilled survivors, but overall it feels fine.

As you point out, the queue times for killer are horrible right now so clearly there are more than enough people who are very happy to queue up for killer. It’s getting to the point where I have a feeling BHVR may need to make some balance changes to incentivizing more people to play survivor. Unfortunately, when you buff survivors it buffs all of them including coordinated SWF teams that do not need any additional help. Coordinating on comms is a major advantage that I strongly feel needs to be somehow nerfed but I also understand that not every SWF is a sweaty bully squad that is annihilating killers. I don’t know how you only nerf the comp teams without overly punishing the casual teams. I think finding a way to do that is the real key to a golden state of balance in the gamers.

  • Yep he is extremely bad in 2v8 - I don’t know why anyone would pick him either.

  • @bm33 said:

The game is designed for survivors to escape on average 40% of the time. If you ready up as survivor you're going in knowing you're most likely going to die. If one side is supposed to lose more than half the time then the fun factor of that side needs to make up for it. Unfortunately that's not the case. Instead survivors are getting burnt out from not only dying so often but not even enjoying the time the spent in the match. They either leave DBD or join the killer queue - both things that will increase the killer wait times.

When 2v8 comes around the killer players aren't switching to survivor, they are staying with killer - plenty on the forums will complain about killer wait times and refuse to touch survivor. The survivor swf players can now play killer together so they leave the 1v4 survivor queue (raising killer wait times there) and flood to the killer queue in 2v8 (raising the killer wait times there too). Then you also have the random solo survivors that also decide to play 2v8 killer (leaving the 1v4 survivor queue and raising the 2v8 killer queue). It's not like the other events where it's still 1v4, the swfs will stick with playing survivor together so the killer wait times don't suffer as much. With 2v8 even when adding nothing new the ability to play killer with a friend is unique enough from regular gameplay that it increases the killer queue.

2v8 the gameplay isn't giving survivors anything new. Since the first iteration killers have had 11 killers added and currently have 15 killers to choose from, they have more options even if they mainly stick with Wesker, Oni, Nemesis. In that same time survivors received 1 new class, they only have 5 options to choose from and only 1 brings anything noticeably different to gameplay (rebuild pallets). Adding killers isn't an incentive for people to play survivor, it only draws more players to killer queue. Adding survivor classes, things that they can actually play around with, are an incentive to get people to play survivor.

I agree with you on the first point about survivor role needing to have more incentive to make up for the fact that on average you only escape 40% of the time. But it has been that way forever. Something has changed recently to drive the killer queue times way up and it’s definitely not the 40% escape rate issue

  • Not only is it a shameless PTW skin, it’s insanely obnoxious and like others have said a major accessibility issue. Let’s see if BHVR cares more about money or an inclusive gaming experience.

  • @mecca said:

I don't even care about tunneling or facecamping anymore, I just need to get into the next match but when killers slug, it interrupts the entire playsession and holds the gameflow hostage while I'm just supposed to wait to bleed out. No, I'm not going to waste a perk slot on an anti-slug perk because as a solo-queue survivor, I'm already forced to pick certain perks to ensure my own safety. I just need them to do something about slugging because it makes me as a casual solo grinder not even want to continue playing after even one match of it.

If you’re getting slugged and left on the ground for a long time, that’s a problem with your teammates, not the killer. Teammates can see your aura to come pick you up just like they see you on hook to come rescue you when you get hooked. Why are your teammates not coming to pick you up?? And getting slugged is way better than getting hooked because you don’t get a hook state to get you closer to elimination. This is why I am so confused about all the outrage about slugging. You should be glad that the killer is not hooking you! I always say that people who complain about slugging should try playing some killer matches, never hook anyone, and see how many matches you win.

  • @crogers271 said:

1: Even if both sides were exactly equal in appeal, the 80/20 split requires substantially more survivors than killers.

Okay, that's always been true, what's changed?

2: Play while you wait allows a lot of players who are okay playing either side, or want to play killer but will play survivor if the wait is too long, to throw their hat in the killer queue. This substantially increases the amount of people on the killer side.

3: The above is compounded by 2v8, because the one saving grave of queue times is that SWFs in 1v4 can only play survivor. Now that duos, the most common form of SWF, can also queue into killer, you're getting a lot more people in the killer queue than normal.

4: This is again compounded on that survivor has less variety than killer, but people get to play it far more frequently than killer, making survivors burn out quicker.

Basically - survivor has to be much, much more appealing than killer to keep queue times reasonable. Play while you wait has (as some of us predicted), made it much worse because the huge reason most people played survivor, the wait time, doesn't exist anymore. You need a lot of people playing survivor, and only survivor, in comparison to those in the killer queue to keep times reasonable.

The comment about “play while you wait” doesn’t make sense to me. If the killer queues are long, play while you wait is only going to be taking people out of killer queues and putting them in the survivor queues, not the other way around. I don’t see how play while you wait would make the killer queue times worse - it should do the opposite.

Behaviour almost certainly makes most of their money off of the purchase of licensed killers. Of the five most played survivors only Lara is licensed, the top 4 are all free and account for around 27% of survivors played, all with free cosmetics so long as you save up the iri shards. In high mmr none of the top 5 are licensed (mostly noting because these players are more likely to play more and spend more money). Meanwhile, three of the most played killers are licensed and if you want other skins for them you have no option but to pay real money, this becomes 4 of the most played killers for high mmr (15% broad, 22.3% high). I'm not agreeing that behaviour hates survivors but no one has any real evidence for who spends the most money but I would bet its killer and killer cosmetic purchases.

I disagree - I think a majority of their revenue comes from survivor cosmetics. Unfortunately there’s no way to know for sure, but I’m just basing this on the fact that there are always more survivor players than killer players and there are typically a lot more cosmetics available for survivors than killers

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/WXYTNQWSOWL9/1000002444.jpg

This was taken 2 weeks ago. Theres been no change to balance since it was taken. Events toss a wrench into queue times in general and they also normally fluctuate based off the time of day. Blaming queue times off balance issues would lead one to assume the game goes through vast balance changes everyday between noon and midnight.

I had only seen very short killer queue times like that in 1v4 mode and only during peak evening times like 9-12 pm. But in 1v4 I also noticed that during off-peak times killer queues that used to be 2-3 minutes are now more like 7-8 minutes. 2v8 killer queue times are way longer than I’ve ever seen them. I’ve seen other comments about this across the community as well so I know it’s not just me.

This is why I specifically said in my original post that I wanted to hear from people who play both sides. These kind of divisive comments that usually come from people who only play one side aren’t helpful at all and are purely to stir up “us vs them” tribalism.

I want to hear from people who have a balanced perspective from both sides to minimize bias and try to understand if my viewpoint is an outlier or if others feel the same way that the killer vs survivor balance really hasn’t changed much recently which is why it’s puzzling that the killer queue times have all of a sudden increased significantly

Counter question: So analyzing basic gameplay is now a matter of a fair role time distribution?

I just want to know if you play killer and if so, how many hours you have. I’m not trying to analyze your gameplay

  • I would straight up not play 2v8 if Ghoul was introduced. Legion was miserable and 2v8 was much more enjoyable after removal. Ghoul would be 10x worse than Legion. So if you just want to play 2v8 against bot survivors, then adding Ghoul is a good idea.

  • @Yamalive said:

It’s because BHVR hates survivor players. - Thats just it. We got a overbuffed Jason, we have several unneeded nerfs incoming, we have a massive amount of tunneling/slugging issues, we still have to deal with Ghoul as is, we have 2vs8 that splits queues even more, and several people just play killer cause its easy as hell.

Are you basing your comment that killer is “easy as hell” on your own experience? If so, can you share your killer hours played as I’m curious how much experience you have. I was hoping to get some thoughts from people who play both sides regularly to see if they feel like killer is too easy and survivor is too difficult.

  • @Mikeadatrix said:

Separate teams, separate problems. It's the same as asking the Cosmetic Team to fix tunneling or cheaters or whatever, it just doesn't work. Game Designers for Killers are not the same as Devs who are responsible for Balancing and Game Health.

This argument makes no sense. You’re assuming BHVR has no control over how many people they hire for each team. Get rid of the positions that are working on things that aren’t needed and create more positions to work on the things that need priority. That is how an effective business works.

  • @pidgeon said:

A rework is currently being worked on. Unfortunately, we do not know anything about it.

It’s extremely frustrating how much time BHVR have wasted on this killer with the multiple reworks. Meanwhile, much larger problems like MMR/matchmaking improvement continue to be ignored.

It’s baffling priority decisions like this that have kept me from financially supporting the game for multiple years now.

  • What you are suggesting would make Nemesis completely useless like he originally was in 2v8. Now he’s actually decent but not overpowered. I’ve escaped against Nemesis plenty of times so I don’t think he’s overpowered at all. Try playing as him and you’ll probably find he still takes a lot of effort and skill to secure kills.

  • LOL your escape success is unacceptable to the downvoters 😂

  • I don’t think he should be completely removed but his curving ability while in his power definitely needs to be nerfed. He should not have infinite turn radius around all obstacles like he does now. Survivors need to at least have some counterplay using obstacles to try to counter his power.

  • There are a billion pallets on the 2v8 maps. Use them to destroy zombies.

Have you tried playing as Nemesis in 2v8? Even with more zombies, he’s still not that strong. I suggest playing him a few times and let us know how it goes. If you’re consistently stomping teams then I’m happy to change my opinion.

I don't remember but killer is definitely higher. I don't know you can say survivor is fine when it's clearly in a terrible spot and people literally willing to wait an half hour to play killer.

What is leading you to the conclusion that survivor is in a terrible spot? If a very average, casual player like myself can escape over half the time in 2v8, I can’t imagine that most other players are struggling to do the same. If you’re escaping half the time or more and still not having fun, then it seems more an issue of unreasonable expectations and it’s likely no amount of survivor buffs will make you enjoy the game.

Just to add one more point - I do think that as long as the killer queue times are super long that there can continue to be some additional survivor buffs to keep incentivizing more people to play that role to try to somehow improve the killer queue times. The queues are still super long and there can be more done to address that

1 2 3 4 5 … 13
