Like from a pure power standpoint and mechanical skill, I've played every single killer but blight feels like he has the hardest power to learn and master. That's honestly why I feel fine with blight being super good because it's like, if you can get that good with him you deserve to do well because he's just hard to play. I def feel like he's harder than nurse tbh.

    Yes, I'd say so.

Blight has a very high skill cap, but his skill 'floor' is lower than others.

I'd say the hardest killer in the game is Billy, followed by Oni and maybe even Deathslinger. Nurse and Cenobite are no picnic either.

Yes yes, I know. 35 god pallets will have you thinking this map is atrocious. But honestly after playing more and more of this game I slowly started to realize... a lot of maps are worse. With gideon yea there's a lot of pallets, but there's still barely any windows, so it's mostly pallets which once you break... they're gone. Nothing the survivors can do.

Meanwhile on maps like macmillan (god how I hate macmillan maps) you get about 15 different jungle gyms all within 25 feet of each other and mostly all of it is windows so you physically can't get rid of them, putting you in what is practically an infinite until the survivor either A. Messes up themselves or B. falls for some janky mindgame. Add that with shack that is a short distance away from all these jungle gyms and the chance to get a main building like storehouse where you can get looped there for a minute in just that building alone.

I genuinely wipe most of my gideon games and yet when I get on these maps like macmillan or autohaven, I lose most of the time just based off the sheer amount of jungle gyms and ultra safe loops within such a close distance of each other.

It's one of those maps that depends entirely on the killer I'm playing.

Hag? Artist? Plague? Nemmy? Dredge? Bring it on.

Onryo? Pig? Demo? It's ridiculously hard if they know what to do.

    @IamFran said:

Not having windows and almost only pallets doesn't make it good, that map is only worse for survivors with Lithe equiped and the only killers which do well in that map are Bubba, Demogorgon and Nemesis (aside the broken ones) because they break pallets very quickly (not Billy, he can't travel around the map).

Demo doesn't break pallets any faster than other killers without a specific addon, and that one's only 15% faster. Game is tough for him, as there aren't many spots to hide portals, and all the loops are very tight which makes shredding a nightmare.

The only thing I hate about it is that one loop where there's a small gap between bushes and a wall that survivors can fit through but killers can't (unless this got hotfixed) and that the main structure is stupidly dark, which is getting changed.

    Unfortunate.

The only killers I get a vague possible potential inkling of an idea that maybe I don't really want to play this match out in full is against a Hag or a Nurse who's doing her Nurse thing at 5 gens.

I love playing Hag, and do a pretty unique style with her (no traps near hooks, but I poop traps wherever I go), running Surge, Monitor, STBFL, Devour Hope. Holy crap does this work well as soon as I get momentum. If I know it's going to be a tough game (I see an obvious SWF with fancy skins) I drop STBFL for Corrupt.

  • @TeabaggingGhostface said:

When i do play hag, i run monitor, plaything, disfigured ear and granmas heart

    I call it sneaky goblin

I like Monitor on her, and run it baseline - she's so sneaky. Plaything with this is a bit overkill.

    I'd go:

    Monitor

    Devour

    Surge

    Undying

Then trap totems like crazy, or:

    Plaything

    Pentimento

    Pain Res

    Surge

This build is hell on wheels.

Who the hell DCs against Legion anymore? I practically throw myself at them to hear the chase theme.

I see it, as well as suicides. He's a bit like Doctor and Trickster - people just hate playing against him.

  • @MoraFlex said:

I occasionally play Doctor with the Impossible Skill Check build & was wondering if there was a similarly creative, frustrating but memey build for survivor.

If possible without a lot of meta perks (these can also be frustrating, but I see the killer equivalent with "Scourge Hook: Pain Resonance" & "Dead Man's Switch" as frustrating as a Survivor with Dead hard, what i'm tryn to say is many assume these perks right from the start)

If possible also without Locker Perks, I don't want to make it too easy for the Dredge, I have enough problems with it as it is

    Soo... any ideas?

    Hmm...

    @craker007 said:

Survivors equivalent is most likely any build that involves being able to hide from the killer mid chase.

Such as Bite the Bullet + Overcome + Lucky break with a Medkit

or Iron Will + Deception + Quick & Quiet

There are definitely more but those are the ones off the top of my head.

    These are good. But...

    @BlightedDolphin said:

A good sabo player is really frustrating to play against, especially on a map with terrible hook spawns like Midwich or Haddonfield.

Add Mettle of Man and Breakout for extra fun.

Frigging sabos, I swear. A good sabo will completely turn the game around.

From my perspective, if you're looking to annoy the killer, MoM+Sabo+Styptic. Bodyblock like crazy.

  • @Beeanoo said:

Why do so many people dc on legion? I've been trying to prestige them so I've played a bunch and for some reason atleast 1 person dc's EVERY TIME. I just don't get why mainly legion, I've never seen any killer get this many dc's in any time while playing. I have been using mori's since I'll lose it anyway after I prestige but even when using a mori with other killers I've never seen so many DC's. So why?

Because, unfortunately, his kit makes him a bit annoying and turns matches into a slog at times.

I love playing him, but he's definitely a killer that makes me groan when I'm playing survivor.

  • @SweetTerror said:

Killer used to be a sweat fest, especially for me. There's nothing worse than tackling a killer you've never played before against a well experienced SWF. Getting toxic teabagging survivors at the exit gate because they knew they could completely own you also made it that much worse. I was hoping for fairer matches with SBMM, but soon after it was implemented I really didn't notice that much of a change. I took a break for quite some time, and I'm still reluctant to play killer. Have any killer mains noticed any difference?

    Absolutely.

I started out two years ago, under GBMM and it was a nightmare. Maybe 1/10 of my matches was good.

Now, win or lose, I'd say that 3/5 are good - in that, no matter which killer I'm playing, it never feels like I couldn't win. The other 2/5 are one part 'okay, why am I facing a SWF player with 2500 hours to my 800?' and 'oof, those were newbies I think'.

It's not perfect, but it's better. If you want to ensure mostly even games, dodge any lobby that has 3-4 people waiting already when you join, as that's probably a backfill.

    @Laluzi said:

Mine have gotten super unbalanced lately. Too much sparing due to flans means I'm going against a lot of newbies (though towards the evenings, I start getting matched with random people and it's better.) Like I was using up flans on Legion today and I had six different players fall over from Deep Wound. Two at the same time, even. So enough 4es will tank you, that's for sure.

That said, they haven't implemented a time decay system yet, so your matches will probably be as sweaty as they were before you left.

Yeah...I did that and it definitely pushed my MMR down heavily, so I've started getting everyone on their death hook and killing 3 at 1 gen if I can.

From how I understand it (I can't remember where I read this, but it makes sense from my experiences) - getting 1 kill and getting 0 kills gives you a very different MMR adjustment, with the first kill being worth the most 'points' MMR wise and the 4th being worth the least.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/3013590#Comment_3013590

Just to be clear. I'm not saying you can't win on these killers. But it wasn't because of anything YOU did., It wasn't your skill.

    You're being ridiculous.

I watch a good few streamers, and I see as many Huntresses kicking butt as I do Blights and Nurses. I've even seen Huntresses do brilliantly in tourney play. Artist is another killer that can be nigh unstoppable in the hands of a good player.

  • @Zozzy said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/3012946#Comment_3012946

But then you get what we have now in DBD because they do listen to new players. A severely neutered cast of killers with only one or two viable options for veterans and a miserable experience for all but low to mid where people are still learning what the space bar does.

We have the reverse where new players stay, spend money, get good, get bored because end game is so simple or impossible then quit.

There is a rise in nerf Nurse threads because SBMM is showing people how bad the other killers are when it shoves them against equally or better skilled survivors and they are giving up and playing the only viable options.

    Huh?

'Only one or two viable options'...no.

There are 2 S+ killers, but that's not 'viable'. Nurse has a kit that scales infinitely with skill, Blight has...honestly pretty OP addons, to the point that several need reigning in.

Beyond this, you have the S and A tiers. Huntress, Plague, Oni, Spirit, Artist, Hag, Twins. One of which you'll as much of as Nurse, two that you'll see plenty of on high MMR streams doing well, and four that are extremely powerful but just rare due to their idiosyncratic kids (but still absolutely viable at even the highest MMRs).

Below this, you have the 'B' tier, all of which can definitely be viable with sufficient skill, good perks and addons. Demo, Cenobite, Billy and Bubba immediately come to mind.

There are plenty of viable killers, which is not to say that there aren't also killers that need some help, and that a lot of killers wouldn't benefit from some tweaks.

That said - DbD has probably peaked. It's not a young game anymore. It'll keep going for a good long while, but short of another massive franchise killer released at the same time as a big event, you aren't going to see 100k again.

I just had a match against Tyrant where there was a zombie camping the hook, literally embedded in the guy on the hook, so I couldn't unhook the guy without getting hit by the zombie. How are you supposed to counter that?

    It's bugged.

Usually, this just means that Nemmy has one less zombie. Very rarely, it means that he has a camping buddy.

    Go in, trade.

Freddy, Hag: unlimited, recyclable traps. Up to 10 for Hag. Demo: six portals base, one each for an entry or exit point. Only allowed to be placed again if survivors destroy them. Doesn’t sit well with me.

Demo feels balanced with his portals as is, honestly. They are such a powerful tool that even some of the better killer streamers sleep on when they play Demo (they always play him as an M1 killer with the occasional shred).

I mean, letting him remove them wouldn't be a big deal, but there's half a roster of killers that need attention more than he does. Onryo, Freddy and Myers in particular.

Trust me, you shouldn't have to. Caging is rarely the correct play tbh. I still have a year old guide if you want it, still trying to find the time to update and finish the 2022 version

Hmm, I may take a look that that, although I'm currently putting most of my DbD into learning Dredge and capping my mains out on perks. Will likely take a hiatus until Halloween to focus on work and other games. Ta though.

Thumbs up. Glad to hear that. When I meet the first trickster who doesn't camp and tunnel from the start, I think of you :D

Yeah, a good while back I did a little personal challenge where I had to 2 hook everyone before killing anyone, and somehow I came to love a more roaming style (you'll notice that all my favorite killers are either massively mobile, can teleport or, well, are Artist).

Trickster...sometimes you'll get a bad map or a tough start and you'll have to tunnel someone out, but I never do that from word one.

    @lauraa said:

    Spirit and Twins

    I love Spirit.

I'm also terrible on Spirit. I've got terrible hearing in one ear, so you'll literally see me cocking my killer's head from side to side while playing to hear people.

I run MDR/Blossom without any shame on her, otherwise survivors are treated to the image of me attacking the first audio source I find.

    @GoodBoyKaru said:

Pyramid Head. No attachment to Silent Hill whatsoever, "oh look a demo ripoff who can tunnel easily" is what I told myself after playing him on the PTB, he came to live and I loved him for literally no reason. His """nerfs""" happened and suddenly it was 0.5s faster to use your power, meaning you were less punished for making fun shots, and the rest is history

PH, along with Oni and Billy is the only killer left that I haven't really put time into learning. I'll get around to it, but the fact that I have to go out of my way to get BBQ stacks is a turn off.

    Heh.

Don't worry - much like my Hag, I'm pretty atypical, in that I don't camp or tunnel outside of necessity. I like to roam.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/3012766#Comment_3012766

no.. Nobody would dismiss someone that close to them. That kind of attitude is shown to people at say 100 vs people at 1200 because the person at 100 literally has zero idea what they are talking about and it is the correct reaction to just dumpster anything they say.

New peoples opinions on balance factually do not matter.

You've clearly never been on a videogame forum before. I used to play a lot of Starcraft 2 and it was literally 'lul you think Terran overpowered, get to my level and you'll see they are weak' from Diamond 3 players to Diamond 2 players.

Secondly - new people's impressions of the game are absolutely vital. If a killer is absolutely rampaging through lowbies, then that's cause for alarm - because those are the people that, a year, could be faithful veterans, and if their experience is miserable you'll lose them.

Of course you can't balance entirely around low MMR (see: Wraith) but it has to be a consideration.

    @vector said:

they may show not exact number but only by marking certain points such as above average and very high.

this is actually frustrating not seeing anything including ranks. At the beggining of season especialy on the first days after reset you at least could understand why you lost so badly if you see 1-3 rank. You understand those are good players. Now you can only guess.

idk not showing even ranks drained from game sort of satisfaction. it is always interesting to know who your opponents are. I still chek hours after each game anyway. So DBD system that based on hide is kind of lame because you might chek player`s hours anyway

I'd love to be able to see my own.

Outside of that - I don't care at all.

  • @Laluzi said:

Artist. Normally I'm pretty bad at anything that requires aiming from a distance, but her particular game of predicting survivor's pathing and then closing the trap on them is really fun.

    Also, yeah, Hag.

Loved Artist from the second I saw her design. Easily my #4 killer, with the other three being Demo, Hag and Dredge respectively. If her addons were a little less boring, she'd probably be #3.

  • @Huntar said:

I mean, yeah, obviously. They were tired of people complaining about their rank matchmaking not working, so they hide the matchmaking metrics now. Like, that was pretty much their stated reason for doing it, rather than actually fixing the matchmaking.

SBMM is way better than RBMM.

They hid grades because people got confused.

I'm not exactly sure what people would get out of seeing their MMR aside from bragging rights - MMR isn't a reward, it's a system to help you get more even games. And while you definitely still get the occasional stinker, it's a substantial improvement over how ranks worked.

  • @Sludge said:

Notice how you don't see any outrage from streamers about hidden MMR

    And...?

I've heard Otz say a few times that he wouldn't mind seeing it.

    @Akumakaji said:

I always advocate for giving us a weekend WITHOUT MMR. If the system leads to better games, people can finally see how aweful it would be without MMR. And thats what you want to advocate. If it only were the other way around I could understand, why you would not wanna do this.

We essentially had this during the SBMM tests, for two days (it was GBMM).

Complete and utter chaos, that saw me as a survivor with maybe 100 hours of experience thrown into a game with a 500 hour player and two players with 3000+ hours a piece, against a 2500 hour Nurse.

    @DrDeepwound said:

    Hag.

I always hated playing against hag and thought playing as her would be as tedious but I find her quite enjoyable to play as.

Hag was my first main, and is still one of my favorite killers. She can occasionally have a 'what the hell was I supposed to do there, I barely even saw a survivor' game due to her slow speed and setup times, but for the most part - as soon as you get survivors running around, you're a force of nature.

  • @Shaped said:

Ghostface. I got him because I wanted I'm all ears for ph and ended up playing him more than ph. At least recently.

Weirdly, yeah. I'm similar. Got Ghosty way back when I first started for that exact perk (I was terrible, so wanted ALL the info I could possibly have) and a year later, decided to try him and really grew to enjoy him. Probably my 5th most played killer atm.

Please give us honesty. Show us MMR if we want to see MMR values. Let us see the MMR of everyone in the game after the game is over.

For what purpose do you hide MMR?

    - Is it so you can pull hidden strings? If so then this is exactly what we suspect. My guess is that MMR is not displayed because people would be upset if they saw the types of games the matchmaker gives them.

-Is it to protect feelings? If so then let players hide MMR so they can remain ignorant.

Most games do, for a few reasons.

    • People get really elitist. Show it pregame, and it's wall to wall lobby shopping. Show it on the forums and it's 'well your opinion doesn't matter because you're at a pitiful 950 and I'm at 965'. I have no issues with showing it postgame.

I doubt they'll go that route, but as things stand - it's just not working.

In the past 6 months, it's gone from instant killer queues and long survivor queues to long killer queues and instant survivor queues.

So how do you play with a keyboard so easily without button configuration.

    Each to their own.

PC is definitely more precise, but controller allows you to more easily control camera and movement independently of each other.

I like playing killer with M+K and survivor with a controller.

Though with MMR arguably it should, depipping shouldn't be a thing full stop.

It's mostly okay as killer - the only areas where I can realistically depip is if I get absolutely trounced at Iri level, and even then I generally safety.

It's way too easy to depip and way too difficult to pip as survivor at times, as you get no credit for hanging in there if you're being camped, and the 'credit' you get for gens done while being chased is pitifully low.

Never been toxic in over thousands of hours and still get facecamped and tunneled. So saying killers only camp/tunnel because someone else was toxic is not very accurate. It just gives them easier kills so they do it.

And I'm probably the nicest killer you're ever likely to meet, and I still get BMed and mocked. Hell, I've been BMed *for being nice* on occasion.

For the most part, killers camp and tunnel because that's the easiest path to victory - and after getting 4 SWFs in a row that send you to Badham or Eyrie with stacked perks and offerings, yes - some people are going to start being cheesy, because it feels like that's the only way to win.

    The issues are that:

    • Rather than pushing for a more sportsmanlike, welcoming community, the devs egg on the nastier side of the community indiscriminately - they've even said that they consider this an integral part of online gaming.
    • Due to the 'blind wager' nature of this game, you can lose matches before they start because you felt like playing nice, and running a low tier killer with a meme-y build, and the other side decided to bring the strongest stuff they can. After this happens a few times, and especially when you get taunted and mocked for losing - people are just going to start bringing the strongest stuff they can just in case, and play mean.
  • @_VTK_ said:

It's funny how some killer mains think that soloQ is bad because solo survivors are bad. SoloQ became a miserable experience since BHVR tweaked game balance many years ago. In the first 2-3 years after DBD release soloQ experience was great, escape rate was around 50% if not higher, after balance changes it is probably around 30-35% now. Did all good solo survivors suddenly disappeared?

And are there no potatoes left among killers? This is BS of course. I face many killers who are just bad, they can't even swing properly, but most of them still get 3-4k in solo, because DBD is balanced around SWF nowadays.

Killer mains just try to downplay game balance issues for soloQ. But when they lose against SWF, it's not because they were bad, no, it's because the game is unbalanced and SWF is unfair. Such hypocrites.

"Better" matchmaking won't change anything, because it's not a matchmaking issue, it's a game-balance issue. And current matchmaking is as good as it can be without creating much longer que times. There's an almost equal amount of bad survivors and killers and if you match them in a different way nothing is gonna change.

There's a simple logical proof for that. If it was a matchmaking issue and there is an (almost) equal amount of good and bad players among both survivors and killers, and soloQ is miserable only because weak solo survivors are just matched to strong killers, then were are all the god-like soloQ survivors, who dominate killers in soloQ? I haven't seen them in great numbers. Have you? Again, that's why matching players in a different way won't change anything.

Believe it or not, multiple things can be true at once.

Unfortunately, this game cannot be balanced around both solos and SWF - because killers need to be able to win against SWFs, thus handing solos the greasy end of the stick. Your choice is between messing over all killers, or some survivors - the former is the rational choice. It's not ideal, but it's the better option.

BHVR want to buff solo and buff killers, but the timeline of that...I have no idea.

    A few things though:

    • You're pulling stats out of your backside. Where did you get 35%?
    • Don't rely on the gross kills stats that BHVR gives out, they are distorted by new players.
    • This game was not balanced on DbDs release. Stuff like infinites, every map having spots where you couldn't pick people up etc. was awful.
    • Matchmaking is partially the problem, due to how lobby dodges cause the system to poop the sheets.
    • I see plenty of great players in solo queue. However, yes, serious players are likely to seek out other serious players and play in groups.

At the end of the day, what BHVR need to do is: give solos better communication tools, incentivize solos not to just DC/suicide on the first hook, reign Nurse and Blight in slightly addons wise and then buff killers to be able to face the stronger solos and SWF.

  • @MrPeanutbutter said:

BHVR will never do anything about SWF on comms. The only thing that they could possibly do within their control is limit how many friends can load into the same lobby. If they start restricting that, a ton of people will stop playing the game.

Yes, SWF on comms is an unfair advantage, but enough killers are still playing the game, so there is no incentive for BHVR to take a risk and make a change that might cause a lot of players to leave the game.

What boggles my mind isn't SWF (people want to play with friends) - it's that this is one of the only games with both solo and premade options that doesn't assign premade groups a proportionally higher MMR for matchmaking purposes, to find them a tougher opponent in order to offset the coordination advantages.

    @GoshJosh said:

I hope they don’t, ever. There’s nothing wrong or can be done about SWF that won’t be a negative impact for the game or player base.

Something like this could work - when you group up, you get a multiplier to your MMR for that match. Say...1.2x for 2 people, 1.4x for 3 people and 1.6x for a full group.

Killers win most of the games, killrate is over 50%, that should be enough for you.

Which is tremendously offset by extremely new players - you can clearly see this in their stats as Nurse has the lowest kill rate, and Cenobite has the highest.

I'd bet dollars to donuts that if you excluded the bottom 10% of the MMR, things would look quite different.

However, keep in mind that killers get around 3x the flans that survivors do.

Hello, I just made an account just for one thing as you can see the title

I'm a survivor main for 90% of the time and an average killer at best and I'm always playing solo, I don't get mad when I'm losing and I'm not celebrating like a crazy dude when I'm winning, however there's something that always pissing me off, that's right, I got tunnelled or facecamped for whatever reason, except for being toxic, I swear I'm not toxic

The thing is when a killer plays that way, not only they won't get punished but they're getting rewarded for that, taking someone out as quick as possible, teammates wasting their time leaving gens to unhook me just to get back on hook, the easiest and cheapest way to get a kill, now it's 3 vs 1 and easier match I suppose, it's so unfair when a killer like me tries to hook everyone and end up getting 1k but the other gets ez 3k spending the least amount of skill and win

They say when you see a camping Bubba just do gens but I'm afraid I can't do 3 gen in 2 minutes he already got 1k and he's seeking for the 2nd kill using HEX:NOED and do you think was it really a fun match?

Shouldn't killers actually earn their kills by using their skill, I mean I believe a camper/tunneller doesn't deserve 1k

Playing as survivor requires way more skill and just one wrong move means death meanwhile camping/tunnelling are easiest way to get someone killed

I'm not taking it too serious but I'm trying to have fun how am I suppose to have fun when I'm dead on my first hook? and how that killer is satisfied getting one kill while he barely even tried? is he actually more of a skilled or what? I can't even understand how is that even fun for killer, this also creates more toxic environment if that's makes sense, DS is meant to delays the inevitable and not stopping the killer, Same goes for BT (unless if you're in end game collapse situation and these perks are life saviours) please consider punishing that playstyle by some rules or otherwise remove penalties camping/tunnelling is just as bad as DCing, both are meant to ruin the fun except campers/tunnellers/ getting rewarded instead of penalized

I'm not that much of a jerk, BHVR can buff killers anyway they want in the cost of punishing Camping/Tunnelling

All I want is to have fun and if I lose, I lose while me and the killer both tried our best, and I would cheer that killer for being better

My main point is: Unskilled play shouldn't lead the killer to win at all, Imagine me being bad and keep tunnelling/camping and winning but if there's going to be a rule that's stopping from doing that I'll be forced to get better instead of being bad

Camping/tunnelling should be legal when there's no gen left to patrol, that's understandable but otherwise it shouldn't be legal

I hope you guys can understand me, good luck and peace out

    @BeccaDenson said:

    (I was trying to reply)

There are some decent perks to slow down gens, dead hard is a problem but not as big as tunnelling/camping and it'll be nerfed soon

I'd like to see a massive buff to killers to prevent camping/tunnelling

I played enough as killer, so I understand Teabagging and clicking is annoying but it doesn't effect the gameplay unless if you lose control so it's all on you, but I don't deserve to die on first hook because of some SWFs's action, an eye for an eye the world goes blind

Okay, see - there are four different phenomena here that people tend to misunderstand.

    • Tunneling off the hook.
    • Facecamping.
    • 'Tunneling'.
    • Protecting a hook.

The first two are pretty much the same thing. Killer sits on or near the hook and goes for the freshly unhooked person, BT be damned. This is a problem, but the devs are starting to make inroads on fixing it, and they've already said that they want to prevent it.

The other sort of tunneling is basically 'if I see two people, I chase the one with the most hook states'. There's nothing wrong with that at all - it makes tactical sense to get rid of one person earlier. It's not the killer's responsibility to divide damage evenly - it's your responsibility to play ultra safe on your death hook, and your teams responsibility to protect you.

Protecting a hook, sometimes called proxy camping is also completely fine. You're not sitting on or near the hook, but you are including routes to it in your patrols.

Let's start from the beginning. Tiles with double pallets used to be a thing in 2016 and 17. There were literary 2 pallets at every tile. Just imagine 2 pallets at every jungle gym, ik crazy. Well pallets back then where not valued too much because there were so many. You may of heard "camping pallets like it's 2017" before because back then looping wasn't really the thing at people just camped pallets.

Double pallets where removed in 2018 and they became more valuable then a stash of gold. That's also when looping a pallet became a real factor amongst everyone. Whenever someone pre threw a pallet or camped it and was just chucking wood everywhere people would absolutly rage and you would see salt messages after the match for throwing pallets like a mad man.

To this day pallets are 50/50 with value. I would say mostly veterans of dbd (2016 and 17 players) myself included value pallets the most, but shouldn't necessarily. Here's why.

I find myself not throwing a pallet every in the match because I want to "save it" but in reality you don't need to save pallets. Honestly go ahead and throw shack pallet early. Crazy right? Yeah imagine if someone said that in 2019, you would be hunted down and booty smacked 154 times by survivor mains. The reason why pallets arnt valuable is because of how fast dbd matches go now a days. It used to be 30-45 minutes a match back in the day, now it's like 15 to 20 because of all the changing game mechanics and strategies over the years. Overall don't sacrifice a pallet for a hook stage, in the end you won't ussaly find yourself needing that pallet that you threw again because you wouldn't (shouldn't) go back to that same time and truly, there are plenty of pallets.

(This is not an argument about gen rushing or if survivors have to many pallets, just how valuable pallets are) I would rather not see a whole nuclear argument about gen rushing in a pallet post

It's a different game now. People understand how to run loops and structures a hundred times better than they did back then.

The dude imo is S teir. He out of everyone needs a nerf, his buff earlier on imo was not needed, but an increase of knives was. Overall he's a way better huntress and a slightly less nurse. He ends chases in seconds and his knives have no mid chase cooldown like huntress or deathslinger.

I don't see how people arnt complaining about him. Trickster is the only killer I ever complain about because he requires low skill and is amazing in chase. Plus every deathslomger you go against are very good, because again, they require low skill, not none, but low

    No.

Trickster is a one trick pony - he can camp well. Otherwise, he can generally eventually whittle one survivor down but if they are savvy it's going to take so long that you've lost multiple gens while doing so.

    Ghostface.

I'm running walleye's matchbook and telephoto lens. Spirit fury, enduring, bamboozle and stbfl.

I don't bother marking people except here and there. I'm letting people reveal me on purpose so they become oblivious and matchbook makes night shroud cooldown so short that I can pop it again and again really fast, which also helps in chases. I play aggressively and I'm on the move constantly, hence why I don't use anti gen in this situation, just chase perks.

    Tell me yours.

Vanity Mirror Myers is among my absolute favorite ways to play the game, ditto Letter Pig. They still aren't good killers, but I love the combination of aura reading and stealth.

It was a comparison that works perfectly in this scenario, you just didnt see the connection.

No, I don't see any connection. You're talking about balance, I'm talking about psychology.

Wackiest teammate I ever encountered was this Meg who I spawn in with. Immediately sees she has no mither, I'm obviously not delighted about that. She immediately sprint bursts off into the distance to find and harass the killer, which she manages to do without going down, for a long while. Doubly impressive as she doesn't have dead hard (again, sprint burst. Maybe it truly -is- better)

She would've escaped at endgame with the rest of us but decided to go down taking a protection hit for another survivor who wasn't injured (there was no noed or anything like that)

I had an absolutely bizarre Ash this morning.

Starts off AFK, gets a crow. Goes down, hooked. Is back online when we unhook him - and proceeds to completely own the game. Pallet saves, flashlight saves out of nowhere, loops like an absolute monster.

Eventually goes down again and...suicides on hook. We all get out.

    Postgame: 'ASH?'

Ash: 'seeing how far I can get my grade down' (I'm guessing he meant smurfing his MMR).

On one hand - dammit, but that carried us. We'd have been destroyed if not.

On the other hand...I'm now paranoid when I see an Ash in the lobby as a killer.

  • @Marigoria said:

My problem with that kind of thinking can also be applied to killer.

People complain so much about dead hard, but what about all those times a survivor dead harded to a wall? Those times dont change the times dead hard was OP.

Apples and oranges. Also - how on earth did you make this about killer? There was nothing at all regarding balance in my OP.

What you're describing is 'sometimes bad people also run good perks'. That's neither here nor there.

  • @Bwsted said:

    People neglect to mention?

Is it confirmation bias, or is it the fact that the ratio is really overwhelmingly skewed toward the Claudette/Dwight/Ash bots of the first part of your example?

    Food for thought.

    From my experience - it's about 50/50.

There are as many potatoes as gods.

The problem comes in where a good player just gets outplayed, or is unlucky, or makes a simple mistake and this is immediately taken internally as evidence of 'yeah, I'm a great player but I keep getting terrible teammates'.

It won't be looked at until the forums start to cry about it.

When DH was still prominent and 90% of the people who used it resulted in being exhausted on the ground, nobody said peep. If people switch to SB and it becomes a more popular perk it will be the same thing that is happening to DH right now. People being annoyed by it because they see it in every match.

It's a vicious cycle with this community. Complain about whatever annoys you.

90%...there's hyperbole and then there's being Cable News.

Yes, sometimes DH would jank out. But it was still incredibly popular.

Ex perks can be strong, but they don't amount to a third health state that can eat killer powers. You can't SB over a trap. You can't Lithe through a Slinger shot. You can't bypass Nemmy's pallet break with Balanced Landing.

    @Crowman said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/3009364#Comment_3009364

Is anyone really saying that DH is weak? The premise of this topic is that if DH gets nerfed hard enough, people will swap to the next strongest exhaustion perk SB.

And honestly it's not like SB is that much weaker than DH, both excel at different things. DH is great when you are on a strong tile as it lets you greed the tile to waste more time. However, the perk doesn't do much when you're in a dead zone as dodging a swing in a dead zone won't save you from being downed shortly afterwards. SB however is great when you are in a dead zone as it allows you to get distance to a usable tile. Some killers have powers that can easily play around it compared to DH, but it's going to be just as annoying for M1 killers to deal with all SB as it is with DH.

Also I would argue that old ruin wasn't that good for it's usage as much as at the time there was simply not much for passive slowdown. Ruin was the only passive slowdown option and it worked with pop. Old ruin honestly didn't do much against experienced survivors whereas it could be an auto win against inexperienced survivors. I'm pretty sure if ruin was never changed, it's usage would not be as high as it was then because killers have gotten so many good passive slowdown options to replace ruin. If anything the ruin changes made ruin both a stronger and better perk.

The core issue with DH is that, if used properly, can be anything from 'lol, I have a free health state' and 'lol, I just DH'd to that pallet and now you've lost Bloodlust and the chase will take another minute'.

SB is a strong perk, but it's strong in the right way in that it comes with a sacrifice in sustained speed and can actually be played around. The only counterplay to DH is mindgames that don't often work.

  • @Fnatic47 said:

Anyone here afraid what they may do with some of the perks ?! I mean they don t know anything about "Balance". Probably the most part of the reworks may be buff the survivor perks and Nerf Killers perks once again...

    Your opinion guys !

My only concern is sweeping nerfs to regression, while not touching stuff like PTS and gen speeds in general, if you're against a group that knows to split up and hammer them out ASAP.

  • @leviivel said:

Im surprised sprint burst isn’t getting nerfed alongside dead hard considering how both are very strong, while dead hard is definitely the perk that needed updating the most, the fact that sprint burst isn’t getting touched frightens me.

on the few occasions someone is running an exhaustion perk that isn’t dead hard, it’s sprint burst. Why? Because that’s also a really strong perk. It may be a bit weaker than dead hard, but if dead hard ends up gutted by the changes, people will just use sprint burst.

even if sprint burst gets nerfed, most likely, lithe, balanced landing or overcome will become much more popular and those are gonna become the new despised perks, and while they aren’t close to sprint burst and dead hard, because a lot of players relied on DH and SB, they’re gonna need new ways to help their chases and so just run them every match.

in general, i think exhaustion perks really need changes, something small like penalties could work as potential bandaid fixes, but i think exhaustion perks need updating because most of them are so strong, not running one feels like a massive downside.

SB is fine. More than fine.

It's a perk that has play, counterplay and best of all - risk analysis and decision making. I wish survivors had more perks like this.

    @ad19970 said:

I am bit worried too that Sprint Burst isn't getting looked at. Or just exhaustion perks in general. I feel like it will just be the new meta perk, with DH nerfed.

But I guess a new meta is better than nothing. Hopefully they will keep their promise and keep chaning perks in the future as well.

Bring on the SB/Lithe meta. SB is a strong perk, sure - but it's at least something you can counter.

    @MikaelaWantsYourBoon said:

Why only SB? Lithe is also good perk. I can see some people will use Head On builds too. Even Overcome can be useful on some builds. BL is pretty bad tho.

BL is godly on some maps (anything with an accessible main structure with at least 2 floors) and useless on others.

I run Lithe - it's a damned fine perk in it's own right.

The map control, the nightfall, the jump scares, the weird chorus that belts a note every time you do something, it's all exactly I've ever wanted to see. I know he has weaknesses, but who doesn't? Even Nurse has a smidge of counter-play, however minuscule it is.

Overall this killer is Sadako but good, his perks are meh but that can be worked around. It's so fun to just pop around the map like this amalgamation monster just snorted a line of crack off Feng Min's ass.

I don't care if he has his bad points, this is the most fun killer I've ever seen in this game.

Captain Cucumber is my favorite killer right now. Makes me sad as this feels like exactly what I'd hoped Sadako would be like.

His fragment has a near infinite skillcap, but the rest of his kit is incredibly intuitive. Alongside Artist, Hag and Demo, he's now one of my mains.

  • @rooCraah said:

With 39 perks changing, nobody outside the dev team knowing exactly what the perk changes are gonna be, a lot of people have been concerned with the two main anti-tunnel perks (DS and BT) being slated for a rework, and for a long time the concern with a BT nerf or DS nerf has been that it would lead to killers tunneling. However, since 17 killer perks are also being changed, including the most meta gen-delay perks (except for DMS somehow), we don't know how Killer will play in the future, and how big an issue tunneling will be.

Which is why I titled the post with Grim Embrace and Floods of Rage; while we don't know exactly what the killer perks look like, there has been a recent trend in killer perk design to either:

    • Encourage the killer to hook multiple different survivors (Grim Embrace, Hex: Plaything, No Way Out), or
    • Encourage leaving recently unhooked survivors alone in favor of targeting others. (Scourge Hooks: Gift of Pain and Floods of Rage)

All the perks listed are from the last 6 chapters, as the only prior killer perk that felt like it actively encouraged anti-tunnel was BBQ&Chili. However, with the 17 killer perk rework (which notably includes Gift of Pain and BBQ), we're likely to get a lot more perks, and stronger/meta perks, that fit into the two categories above. And maybe some time in the future Grim Embrace will also be buffed because it's probably the healthiest B-tier perk in the game.

Imagine a version of DBD where survivors don't need to bring as many anti-tunnel perks because the killers themselves all run perks that encourage anti-tunnel. That's the best thing I coult think of that could possible result from the 39 perk rework.

Devour is another good 'don't camp' perk. GI sucks. FoR is excellent, but you need to commit to a SH build with Agi and PR, and PR is getting nerfed so that's likely going to steer people back towards kicking builds.

Doing gens is how survivors win. Do you really expect your opponents to help you win the game? I guess you should purposely slow down your hooks, huh?

Yes, but having PTS remain as is with the pretty sweeping regression nerfs, and the issue becomes that it's now much harder for the killer to pressure the survivors sufficiently to slow down the game.
