For all we know we will get that mechanic in the foreseeable future. But still, it's grandpa who's ought to stop q-ing up if they get so bend over people being people.
We all had these moments were things were just all wrong and we just noped out, cross yer heart.
This isn't to say their aren't dickweasels that dc etc to be scummy, but overall, staying in a match that just overshoots a tipping point is not a great idea, and if that happens on a regular basis as it does with dbd, that points rather to shortcomings in the game design, not a failure on the players' ends
Queueing up for a match you may just not be able to handle is a failure on the player's end.

This is what grinds my gears the most in nowadays gaming culture. Online anonymity and partly cultural upbringing have made people way to soft.
They don't have the mental fortitude to tough through rough matches and not the spine/gut/whatever to stop.
I don't even want people to tough through things, I just want them to realize they aren't actually ready for when a match goes wrong and just.
Not take up slots people who'll actually stay could take.

I mean, the worst to me isn't in-game BM.
It's the DDoS's, the racists who only kill minority Survivors and then boast about it, some of the TTV's who witchhunt people, the cheaters who hold you hostage.
Somebody slugging me for a while while Wraith bonging me, it's whatever. Annoying? Yeah. Childish? Sure. Will I DC? I won't and you shouldn't, but I'd understand. Will I stick around for his victory lap? Nah, I'm gonna make some food or something.
Cheaters and actual criminals are such an outrageous outliers that a DC penalty should be the least of your issues in these scenarios.

Nobody can handle this game at it's worst.
Some people can handle the game at it's medium worst.
Most people can't. It's one of the reasons DBD hasn't gone fully mainstream yet, imo.
"Handling" in this case is just not DCing.
You don't need to smile and titter at that silly rascal that just BM'd you for 30 minutes. You just need to not DC early. That's it. That's all the expectation is.
Just don't make things worse if it's so damn bad.

@Pulsar said:
I don't really ever DC. I think the only times in the last month have been when I thought someone was breaking into my house, when I got DDoS'd and when I connected to a game where everyone had 250 ms of ping.
I don't suicide on hook if I think it's going to have a result on the match. 7 hooks at 5 gens? Probably just gonna move on.
I'm simply sympathetic to people who get fed up with the bullshit the game throws at you. You want to have fun, you go in with a good attitude, nice perks, you don't even care if you survive. Then boom, tunneled out in 2 minutes, no gens are done. Boom, Bubba facecamping you. Boom, Eruption infinite three-gen.
I'm not advocating for them, I just understand the absolute agony this game can instill in even the best people.
I also understand that this game can absolutely goddamn blow. I've experienced plenty of it.
I don't, however, have sympathy for people who know this, can't handle the game at its worst, but queue up anyway as it they expect it'll just never happen to them. I'm not asking people to just be stone-faced gargoyles who aren't bothered by anything. I'm asking them to be responsible enough for themselves to not waste all our time with their lack of commitment and go do something they'll actually always enjoy.
They aren't victims of themselves, they're just not smart.

Awwwww. Gwandpaw is angwy.
Think about this Gwamps: YOU KNOW what makes players quit. I’ll spell it out anyway: OP builds, cheap killer play, bad teammates. This is probably 80% of the reason for quits. I’ll say the other 20% is being petulant because they got found early or didn’t like the map or didnt want to face their 5th Wesker in a row… So about that 80%, and getting back to the fact that YOU KNOW this is why players quit… if killers want to minimize quits:
- Stop loading into games with OPAF builds (Nurse, Blight, your “magic build” on other killers where you run your map and the best perks and addons that make you damn near invincible)
- Stop running lethal pursuer with an extreme mobility killer that downs someone in seconds and then steamrolls with BBQ or whatever
- Stop camping and tunnelling and ruining peoples games because you want to be as oppressive as possible vs a team that is likely a bunch of mismatched solos already at a disadvantage.
Solo survivors are sick of being reamed sideways because killer players are getting spoon fed wins. How easy is it to find survivors now? Every killer has access to like 100 aura perks and addons. How many killers have extreme mobility? How many have “magic builds” where they’re pretty much guaranteed a win? Killers have 100 ways to 1 hit now and slow down gens and find survivors, often simultaneously with one perk doing multiple things. Meanwhile any concept of survivor stealth is GONE. It’s all just about running and trying to get gens done fast which is damn near impossible with OP extreme mobility killers running aura perks and gen slow downs vs a ragtag team of mismatched survivors.
Solo survivors play as one post above described: they join hoping for a fun game. But when faced with OP BS and/or horrible teammates they often leave and move on to try and find a fairer match. So take some responsibility and play fair. BHVR isn’t going to do anything to help the situation so try looking at how YOU contribute and change THAT and see what happens.
I am quite frankly in a state of total disbelief that you of all people would take umbrage with this post.

While I don't endorse DCing nor I do it, unless I genuinely have a real life reason to, it's really not that hard to understand why those who do it, do it.
When a DC prone player queues into a game, they do so with the expectation of having a fun enjoyable match. This mean that under the correct circumstances they can and will enjoy playing DBD, likely to a greater extent than anything else they could be doing instead.
Once the match starts their reasoning is as follows:
1) the games goes as I want: stay, play the game and enjoy.
2) the game does not go as I want. Suicide (ideally) or DC, then immediately go into another match they might enjoy.
See? They actually waste less time doing something they don't enjoy, and more time having fun matches (for them).
Is this an incredibly selfish and immature thing to do? Yes it is.
Can we judge them for it? Yes we can.
Do they care about the last 2 things? They do not
Can we make them care by making threads about or any other way? No, we can't.
All that is left is acceptance. Ultimately what goes, can come too. Those with the mindset to see things to conclusion do so because they get satisfaction from it, regardless of the result.
Not being able to "handle" the fact that those we play with might not care about us (or anyone else) and might do things we dislike is also a fault in my opinion.
And the only alternative to that is to Play with SWF.
Most of my irritation is directed towards the people on the forums who go around and defend doing this.
I've made peace with my matches. I know how bad it's gonna be. I usually forget the quitters 10-15 minutes after a match ends, I don't have that much attention span. I point and laugh at them and move on.
But the people who go out and actually defend it, who go out and argue with people about it? That's the people who're gonna see this. That's who this is for. The "i'm a quitter and proud!" people who i'd like to make the self-justification just slightly harder for.
Gonna change anyone's mind? Sure ain't. But no one goes to forums to change their minds anyhow.

It's a double standard. Survivors deserve a way to DC without the penalty, but Killers are expected to play out every match, from beginning to end, without afking. 😂
Survivors suiciding on hook irks me as both a killer and a survivor. No one should have an easy way out past the DC penalty.

I mean it’s a video game. It isn’t a hot new exclusive elite club in Hollywood. Players aren’t signing blood contracts to get into it. It’s a *game*. No one ‘agrees’ to do $#!% but play until they don’t want to play anymore. If you’re that upset with people expressing autonomy by making decisions you dislike in a video game, play with a SWF. If you’re queuing up as killer, who cares if they die early on hook? You still get credit for the kill, which is the most important thing to killers anyway. In the end survivors aren’t there for a killer’s entertainment just like killers aren’t there to be a plaything for survivors.
See third to last paragraph.

Making bots that are decently competent and also don't cheat is incredibly difficult and complex to do and I don't blame 'em for taking some shortcuts for now. It's the kind of thing they'll hopefully iterate on before too long.
I remember TF2 getting a good in-between on the aiming front with their bots. They didn't want them to just snap to people with aimbot, so they gave their bots a virtual mouse to have mostly-human aim. Hopefully they give bots, like.. reasonable reaction time in the future.

This thread was one of the top more recent threads. Why are you surprised a newer account commented on it? Am I just supposed to cover my eyes just because some random dude decided it so that my post number wasn't high enough for their liking?
I don't need 3,000 posts like yours to find that your argument is whiny and toddlerish.
"You cannot stop me from jaywalking 50 feet down from the crosswalk if I really want to, so why do we even bother with crosswalks at all?"
What's this even in reference to? Where did anyone even argue the "so why do we even bother with _____ at all?" part? Where'd you get it from? Who made this argument? I'm genuinely confused. If your point was just the beginning part of the question "You cannot stop me from jaywalking 50 feet down from the crosswalk if I really want to"
Yes, I cannot. Where's your point? People are allowed to do stupid things. Especially people who give up immediately. They have my blessing.

Well, they're not wrong, are they? You really can't make someone stay in a match they don't want to be in unless you deliberately waste your own time along with it. Their thoughts do come from truth, and tYpInG LiKe ThIs to make their truth seem mockable makes you look more like the toddler. Do I dislike when people go next immediately? Of course I do. I'm not going to be childish in the forums about it, though. Because at the end of the day, if people doing that makes me so miserable, I go do something else with my time. Holding repressed anger for a match that took 3 minutes to end is ridiculous and people in the forums shouldn't be your punching bag.
You are fully capable of being correct without being right.
Yes, it is correct that you literally cannot stop someone from quitting if they really want to. That does not mean that there's no point to trying to stop them at all like some people apparently believe. You cannot stop me from jaywalking 50 feet down from the crosswalk if I really want to, so why do we even bother with crosswalks at all?
Correct statement, silly conclusion.
I do the sIlLy GooFy TyPiNg iN CYcliNg cAPs thing because it's a concept that's goofy and worthy of derision. And if you really wanted to keep the maturity gold star, you wouldn't have played your hand early and gone arguing on a game forum before you even hit double digit posts.

1.) I don't care about "counterplay", or this community's obsession with it. Not everything deserves or needs it.
2.) It's game throwing. If a killer decides he's willing to let you do all the gens because Felix ticked him off, he should be able to do that.
3.) Blocking a room is not letting someone play the game. If you are hooked, you GOT the play the game and this is the consequence of getting outplayed.
Generally, in a multiplayer game, it's considered by contemporary historians to be "pretty cool" when you can do something about something to a reasonable degree and vice versa. Back and forth. Multiplayer things.

While on paper that may sound amazing to you, in reality it causes more issues than it solves. Now, luck in general needs a rework because Up The Ante and Luck boosting offerings are now useless (they weren't that worthwhile to begin with, but still at least were USABLE in meme builds). Deliverance and Slippery Meat now can't be used because you can't get off the hook by yourself anymore. etc, etc. We can dream that in some amazing DBD people will not be able to give up or "sit there like a toddler in time-out", but I genuinely don't think BHVR wants the headache of rebalancing Luck, Slippery Meat and Deliverance of all things they could be doing right now.
Of course it's not going to happen. Almost none of what's suggested on the forums does.
The self unhook action can be saved for deliverance, slippery meat and the luck mechanic can be done away with wholesale and made something else. It's just a silly and outdated mechanic that gives people free outs and occasionally, very occasionally, robs killers.
I don't have any delusions that this will actually happen, let alone on any reasonable timescale, but the people who go "oH MaN nOthING WrONG HerE can'T MaKe sOmEONE staY IN a MatcH iT's aCtuaLlY a gOOd tHINg" are something else entirely.

If you punish people for killing themselves on hook they'll just start going afk while doing something else or deliberately throwing the match to get out quicker. You can't force people to play a match they don't want to. And frankly, there are times where suiciding is perfectly justified. An automated system wouldn't be able to distinguish between rage quitting and peacing out because killer's farming, other survivors are just hiding in the corners, etc. Manual reports would require video evidence and going through their report system, which is already tedious enough when reporting cheaters. Plus it would add way more work from their support team having to manually review a bunch of videos.
You can't force anyone to do anything. Do we even bother having rules then, 'cause if someone REALLY wants to do something, we can't stop them? May as well cut out the middleman, right?
Y'know what the difference is between suiciding on hook and AFKing?
A rule break.
We have these ways to punish quitters and people who refuse to play that clearly show we can and do want people to actually.. you know. Play the game. Except for this one little unlocked door in the back. Same outcome, but this one's just fine I guess.
Hey, better idea. Remove self unhooks and struggle skillchecks. That way any of this is actually consistent, and people who want out have to either eat the DC penalty we actually have to actually punish quitters or sit there like a toddler in time-out, break a rule and waste more of his time than if he could just have his easy out.

Most other similar games have pretty strict penalties for quitters, or the exact same problem. Because there are a lot of people who, upon realizing 'this might be a rough game' will immediately pull the cable or quit.
Yeah, I don't really get this bizarre unceasing optimism in people that quitting will stop if only the state of the game was better, or more balanced.
No. No, man. No it won't. A good reason is not a prerequisite for DCing. Much better balanced games have punishments for quitting because they don't share this misplaced faith.

I misunderstood. I thought you meant they didn't say make camping and tunnelling impossible. There's also no need for the snark grandpa.
But the fact is, you still can't do that. There is no way to "just balance it" after you make a fundamental mechanic impossible. So many suggestions are just "fix this and then just balance the repercussions" without any thought about what it would take to balance it.
As I detailed here, making camping and tunnelling impossible means the killer loses at 1 gen, if there are any survivors not on death hook, no questions.
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3319438#Comment_3319438
The only 'balances' I could possible see that would make this feasible would be something like:
- Camping is impossible, but whoever makes a hook rescue gets automatically and immediately hooked themselves.
Or:
- Tunnelling is impossible, but an unhooked survivor cannot move or carry out any action until another survivor has been downed.
Both of which are equally and obviously problematic in their own right. Otherwise, it's just free time or opportunities the survivors have while the killers hands are tied and they're in no danger.
There's no "need" for much of this, y'know. Just a whole lot of wants.
That's kinda what the forum is for. Spitballing and wild ideas and discussions and "golly goodness wouldn't it be nice if they did this?"
'Cause at the end of the day, none of this is gonna happen. Actually big cool changes are scary, so any big changes will be middling, and they'll be comparable in speed to dead, frozen snails. Changes to things that couldve done overnight have taken actual years to do. And a thousand more sensible tiny number changes will be ignored.
They even outright said "it'll never be done". No point in writing out a full-scale thesis paper proofing the concept, aside from fun. Just "damn wouldn't it be a wacky pipe dream if this game was good".
So, yeah, at THAT point, up-turning the nose and throwing out the 'main' feels a lil bitty bit goofy.

Are you implying I'm a killer main?
People who only play one role post biased nonsense. You need to play both roles to understand how the game works guys.
Saying things like "camping should be impossible" is a blatant confession to never playing killer in any real capacity.
Even as someone who doesn't camp and tunnel out of principle (because I play survivor and know how it feels) I still recognise that it is a necessary mechanic under certain circumstances, which even I will use occasionally.
- All gens done, 3 survivors healed out of sight and one is on the hook. I don't have a choice but to camp.
- Unhooked survivor bodyblocks with BT/OTR and forces me to hit them. They forced me to tunnel them and need to learn that these anti-tunnel measures are there to protect you, not to be used as weapons against the killer.
I wouldn't ever do such a thing.
Just, y'know. The aggressive terminology and the way you went off about it activates the almonds.
Dude didn't even say that camping should just be straight impossible, period, no negotiations. He said it should be balanced around if it was. That's actually the second or third time you ignored that part.

Yes. I think the DC penalty is dumb and should be removed.
The bot system that has been proposed would be infinitely better. Until then, I'll begrudgingly and graciously tolerate DC penalties.
But I genuinely don't care when they're off. Nothing changes in my games. People DC more but hook suicide less.
Bots in addition to the DC penalty would be infinitely better. To lessen the sting when someone shows their spectacular lack of backbone.
No, not out-and-out just bots. People want to play against/with actual people, that's why they queued up for an online match and not a bot match. Bots aren't a full working limb, they're a stapled-on peg leg.
Someone has a mild problem, real or not, they DC. Someone else decides they'd like an actual full game, they DC. On and on until the match becomes a single player game. But that doesn't matter to the first person who ragequit, he get his free out. Every time.
And all that queue time, wasted.
I don't know how you don't see that exact scenario happening.

Wow, cool! True! Accurate! I cannot geas them into fully playing the match out irregardless of any outside stimulus, so there's no point to doing anything ever I guess. If you're so damn opposed to hook suiciding being impossible, do you thing DC penalties should go too?
I'm sure that'll go great. It went smashingly every other time it happened.
Yeah, the game sucks sometimes. It's not always fun. Occasionally you want out of the match.
Thing is, at the risk of sounding a bit heartless, I literally could not care less. You queued up for the match. I assume you know what video game you're playing. I assume you have some prior experience. If you're so liable to flip the board the instant something goes wrong, don't queue up. Have a little bit of personal goddamn responsibility for your decisions and take the lumps.
I'd love it if the game was improved so people didn't want to DC, but i'd also like it if those people couldn't basically ignore the DC penalty that we have for a r e a s o n .

-
I don't see how they can't implement some kind of way to bleed out faster or just be able to leave the game and leave a hookable husk if everyone's on the ground with no way to get back up.
And since someone's going to yell and piss everywhere unless I bring it up, if every survivor alive's at the exit gates then count them down 5 times faster until it's at 10 seconds left.

Mm. Kobes and hook grabs are two of those 'why on earth are these still in the game?' things.
Kobes almost always just give people an 'I quit but I don't feel like DCing' button, and when they do work can be obnoxious for the killer.
Pretty much.
If you want out of the game ASAP, you eat that DC penalty and you like it.
-
Man would it be nice if players could see you have Deliverance.
And making a bot replace the DC'd player and removing hook suicides entirely would go a long way.
I don't really care what they do with slippery meat and the luck stuff after that, but John Bozo not having a quick and easy way to punch his ticket after going down for a bad play would be a good start.
