I'm having the opposite time. I must just have very bad luck. I keep getting absolute trash perks while my opponents are getting a bunch of meta. Trying not to hard tunnel and getting stomped over and over is rough because the gens are just flying

I guess it's fair to assume that just the opposite can happen. In my matches I've been getting a lot of killers that have been tunneling because they know it's all but a guarantee that survivors aren't going to have dead hard, off the record, etc. It's just my luck tonight I guess.

  • @katoptris said:

Freddy used to be able to see non awake survivors outside of terror radius. He even had a slowdown to action speeds. Now he a shell of his former self. Myers is surprisedly the license who made other licenses popular yet he left behind. Rip

Yeah, the thing I find so frustrating with Myers is that I've had plenty of games where I can't stalk survivors anymore, meaning that I'm just a regular m1 killer. Not having a power was ridiculous. If his add-ons need to be changed in order to rectify this, then that's fine, but he is long overdue for a rework and I'm amazed that hasn't happened yet given that he's the oldest licensed killer in the game.

  • As killer, it's nice having everyone on the same playing field. No perks makes for a more interesting match, but as survivor it's miserable.

So long as the killer isn't a try hard, then it's not too bad. But I had two matches back to back that had a Bubba camp the hook, and a Trapper place traps around the hook while again camping. After that I stopped playing survivor. Personally, I don't know why BHVR took out the anti-camp mechanic. Without it, killers just go right back to doing camping. It was boring.

  • I was definitely happy to hear that he is being considered for a rework, but when it was revealed that he wasn't listed within the upcoming road map, it definitely was sad to see. At this rate he might be late into the year at the earliest.

Killer is definitely more stressful, since it's only you against four other people. Four other people who are united against trying to beat -you-. Even worse if they're a SWF, all in comms and trading information about your position and actions.

That isn't to say playing survivor and winding up against a really good killer isn't stressful, but you at least get some down time on gens, unless you're immediatly tunneled I guess.

As killer you're in every single chase and if you are trying to win then you're always aware of the ticking clock that are the gens, and that if you take too long in even one chase, you're chance of 'winning' is likely gone.

Personally though I can't really bring myself to sweat all that much, since when I used to do that, I'd get much more angry and frustrated when I lost. I found that I enjoy the game much more when I'm at least slightly more chill in most games. (That isn't to say I don't still get mad on occasion, but, well, this is DBD).

I feel the same. It's no secret that gamers don't like losing, regardless of the role you choose to play. That being said, playing killer against a sweat squad that are all on comms is a nightmare, especially if you're playing with a killer you've never played with before. The amount of micromanaging is through the roof, not to mention a single mistake could cost you the match. It's ridiculously stressful.

Having said that, I usually find myself partaking in a drink before I play a game of DBD 😄, especially if it's killer. Personally, it helps me to relax and not take things too seriously, even though it can still be frustrating when you find yourself getting stomped on time and time again. Which is why I look forward to the extra game modes that the devs have in store. A way to cleanse the pallet after a brutal match would be most welcome.

Hi came here to post a thread but I saw this one, hope you don't mind the piggyback OP! I don't think the 'this is how bots are, if you learn how to exploit them they're easy' is very helpful.

I've been playing since Clown and I think there's only a specific way one can play against the bots as they are that does not help anyone learn anything. You can't use stealth killers at all and in two out of four bot games I played tonight they had two gens done in under three minutes, I'm not even sure how. This presents a problem because new people can't learn anything in a low pressure environment except how to play against bots this way, and seasoned players who just want to try out perks/powers/just relax and not have to worry about everyone's fun are also not seeing any benefits from the bots because we aren't playing the game at that point, we're gaming the ai. A difficulty slider representing the behaviors of the low mid and high range of MMR would be perfect!

I just want the bots to serve a helpful purpose for newbies and old hats alike, and just a few tweaks here and there (like fixing their wall hacks and being able to set them as selfish or altruistic) would do a world of good! Thank you for your time!

When bots were finally introduced into the main game, I cheered because trying to practice with a killer that you've never played before in a sweaty online match was the worst. However, as you've attested to, it's really difficult to do this with certain killers and certain builds that revolve around stealth.

The biggest advantage about having bots was to allow players to test certain builds and killers in a stress-free environment, but it didn't take long to realize that bots have their own hacks that make testing killers and certain builds a headache. You find yourself having to hop into online sweaty matches anyway as the bots will not only see a stealth killer coming from a mile away, but the fact that they are crazy efficient on generators makes any match end ridiculously quick if you don't have generator regression.

Now again, this is kind of a moot point if you're playing with a killer and/or build that is all about brute forcing your way through a match, but if you're trying to play stealthily or tactically, then you're kind of SOL.

  • After playing more matches, I've concluded that it's nearly impossible to sneak up on bots. Equipping perks like tinkerer are absolutely useless, but more crucially a lot of powers that belong to killers like Chucky and Ghostface that hide your terror radius are made useless due to the bot's wall hacks and constant notifications of knowing when you're in the vicinity. It's almost like they have their own built-in Whisperers.

After getting nowhere with Chucky I decided to play Ghostface, and every single time that I tried to mark a survivor stealthily from behind a corner, the bot immediately ran off because they were instantly aware of them being marked.

TL:DR, bots in custom matches is a great way to practice, assuming you're not trying to be stealthy.

  • @ohheyitsbobcat said:

That is how the bots work.

Bot's have wallhacks and can't be mindgamed so they're only good for basic practice. I'd use them to get a feel for the power and after that switch to real people to learn the rest.

Playing against bots with Chucky feels awful because half the fun is confusing people with your size which doesn't work on them.

If it's true that the bots are allowed to have wall hacks, then that doesn't really allow you to practice efficiently with a lot of killers. What good are custom matches with bots if they can negate every power and perk that hides your terror radius? But sadly you're probably right.

  • @alaenyia said:

Chucky has very loud footfalls even if he has no terror radius, that could account for the change of direction with either a bot or an actual player. And if you are playing with a LOT of bots maybe you should back up and re-evaluate your play style. Maybe something about your gameplay is causing people to not want to bother playing with you.

My play style is causing people to not want to play with me? What on earth are you talking about? I was practicing with bods in custom matches. I have yet to step foot in a live match with Chucky.

But he simply wasn't different is my main point.

Old Fredboi did nothing at all that was different from an average m1 killer template. If you outside the box power is to just be able to play the game at all, you've not created anything new or different you've created effectively nothing at all. He was the very definition of copy and paste, but with less functionality that anyone that came before or after him. I could understand if he actually did anything particularly unique or thematic, but in all my time of playing with and against him that wasn't the experience. His kit such as it was didn't bring anything new to the game nor did it use what already existed in a different way than anyone else was using it.

Considering that he was implemented years ago though, having him play the way he did was quite refreshing at the time.

Now it is comforting to hear that he has another rework in the pipeline, but as we all know he's not the only one that needs to be brought up to speed with where DBD is in 2023.

  • Honestly, I have to agree. These days I watch far more videos of games than I do participating in them. The other day I wanted to play a survivor game, and we encountered a Bubba who proceeded to slug everyone. He pick you up to think he was going to hook you, only to put you back down again. It was the most miserable four minutes.

Last week OhTofu uploaded a match where he played against a steam player that only had 190 hours in the game versus his 11,000 hour killer. Sweaty players are one thing, but SBMM is a miserable thing altogether.

  • @ReikoMori said:

That wasn't why people didn't like Old Fredboi's kit.

It's a misconception that he played differently than any other killer. He did not.

His power was shoot laser at you to put you to sleep so he could play dbd as an average m1 killer with no active power. It was impossible for him to interact with the game without doing this. His power was completely passive once you were asleep so it was hard to understand and the counterplay was entirely dependent on high level team coordination.

He was incredibly weak because he literally couldn't do basic actions needed to play the game without using his power. What offset that weakness was also possessing at the time an extremely degenerate playstyle that made the game unbearable to play for those of average skill, impossible to play for new players, and useless against high level players. Old Freboi wasn't outside of the mold so much as he was just crammed into a corner of the mold for the most part with a thin layer spread every where else.

People have stop mythologizing Old Freddy like his kit was some misunderstood beauty when it was just bad for both the killer and survivor and without grossly overpowered perks and addons of the time available to him he would not have been able to do drag the game to standstill like he did.

I think you misinterpreted what I was saying. I was saying the reason why people want Freddy's old play style back is because of how different he was to every other killer. Never mind if it was considered strong or weak, the very fact that it was different from everyone else is what made it special.

So many killers these days feel like a copy and paste version of someone else, and if the Alien is nothing more than an m1 killer, then that is going to be a massive disappointment.

  • @Thusly_Boned said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/386401/have-fun-would-the-alien-be-if-the-devs-thought-outside-the-box

This seems really cool and the Alien motion tracker is pretty iconic. That said, knowing where the xenomorph is at all times wouldn't really fit it thematically.

Unless you had it so the tracker would only pick it up when it was close. This would still be powerful info, so as you say, they'd have to make xeno really quick. The downside to that would be that people would probably just hold W every time the tracker went off.

I really like the idea of the wall/ceiling climbing xeno, but not sure how the game's physics would deal with that.

Whatever they have done, I'd be shocked if it isn't stealth based.

Yeah, there are so many things about the alien that are iconic that I'm legitimately intrigued on how it's going to be implemented in the game. The Alien is known for traversing walls and ceilings, fast movement, acid spit, etc, that I'm worried the Alien will either be overpowered or ridiculously weak.

Traversing walls sounds great until you realize it removes survivor's resources, plus I don't know how that would necessarily work in outdoor maps. I'm worried that it'll be a cross between plague and demogorgan, which if true would be a huge disappointment.

  • @Smoe said:

Would be interesting to say the least, however i can also guarantee that people are gonna complain that the gameplay isn't the same as they're used to and call Xeno for unfun to play against.

Yeah people will find reasons to complain about anything, but after 7 years of playing DBD's one and only game mode, it's like, what do they expect?

  • @Blueberry said:

Yeah I really wish they’d get a bit more creative and break the mold. Many killers feel like the same abilities and mechanics with just a different color of paint splashed on but in the end all get played with and against the same as the rest.

We need new killer designs that actually change the way survivor play and make them think differently.

Exactly! I think that's one of the reasons why everyone decries for old Freddy again. He played in a way unlike any other killer, but instead of adjusting what was there they made him more in line of what is to be expected from every other killer.

  • I tried practicing with him against the bots, and it was insanely hard to do as they are always aware when you're looking at them through a pod. But what made it insanely frustrating was that when I finally did manage to get a pod attached to them, they would immediately cleanse it because they could just easily run by an EMP chest that had already opened on its own.

Having that much difficulty against bots convinced me to never go against live players. I don't know why BHVR keeps creating these high skill ceiling killers, but I'll stick to killers that don't require an insane amount of trial and error just to get some fun out of.

I had two bodyguard Aces (in their tuxedo skins) protecting a "Mathieu Cote" lol i was the solo to their swf and it cracked me up watching them taking protection hits

A lot of my survivor games are played solo, and generally I like to be a medic for the team so I'll equip strong healing perks that stack on top of each other. I realize I may not be getting a lot done outside of healing, but again I'm looking for something new to do. Sitting on a generator for minutes at a time isn't exactly my cup of tea.

    All the time as well!

As Killer: Peekaboo Myers/Ghostface, Ghostface vs Survivor fast-crouch contests, Moonwalk contests with the Survivors are my more "fleshed out" game modes (Killer pun only 65% intended there, lol)

As Survivor: Boop the Snoot (and not just Pig!), fast-crouch contests with Ghostface, Magpie (Killer permitting), and sometimes my friend and I whom I play DbD with the most, sometimes we will compete against each other to survive the match (being mindful not to hinder others from escaping). And actually had a semi-organic Mr. President game a month ago (two Aces loaded in with us in matching outfits, I had that outfit and my friend didn't, so my I protecc-eted my friend all match). Unfortunately both the Aces and the killer had no idea what that game mode was or what we were doing, but they all got a laugh in post game and we all had a good match anyway!

And one I had happen ages ago when I was playing Nurse on Suffocation Pit (MacMillian), all 4 Survivors were in the dead-center of the map in a crouch-walk train 🤣 I hit the caboose (a Bill) but no one broke the train so.... I joined in and became the new caboose until the train broke up 2-3 minutes later rofl

That caboose game would have cracked me up!

So often I see more and more gamers making their own fun in the game, which I think is proof that gamers are itching for something new. There are countless examples too of fun modes that the devs could use to incentivize spicier gameplay. One mode I've played with friends in particular saw us borrowing a page from from the movie Death Proof. Basically the survivors team up to hunt the killer. It's kind of like a reverse hide and seek. You have 20 seconds to find the killer, and if you haven't then they're free to start hunting you down. Once someone is hooked, everything resets and starts again. The game ends when the killer is found three times, or a single survivor dies. It may not be everyone's cup tea, but we enjoy it!

  • @pseudechis said:

    All the time.

Lately it’s all jumpscare Myers running Devour and an ebony mori.

Only mori people no hook sacs. It’s either 5 DH stacks or 2 hook states then mori.

It’s been a real laugh and surprisingly more 3-4K’s than I expected.

With my peekaboo Myers, sometimes I might have one or two kills, but usually if I've managed to down everyone right at the end, I'll bring everyone to the gate for a slug race. LOL

  • @Rudjohns said:

Survivors need to keep 3-genning in mind

killer need to do the same with hooks

I would argue that being smart about where you hook survivors is impossible to do. Killers go where survivors go, which means killers are at the mercy of hooking wherever a survivor is downed, and if there are no hooks in the area, then completing your objective becomes impossible to do.

  • The sad truth is that while DBD should be viewed as a party game, it's sadly treated far more competitively than it has any right to be (we have freaking Nicholas Cage in the game for crying out loud! LOL). But solo queue is the worst. If you're not playing with other people on mics, then you're at the mercy of a random team, and sadly random people can prove to be the worst teammates since a lot of the times they will have their own agenda.

It's their game and they can play it how they want, but not playing as a team makes it very frustrating.

  • As many others have said, this problem will be solved by the bots being implemented next week, but I think this paints an overall picture of just how much the emblem system is no longer warranted in DBD.

The emblems used to adhere to your overall ranking, and since those emblems don't play a part in SBMM, I personally feel that they should be removed entirely. If the grades are meant to reflect how much you play, then what part do emblems still serve?

  • @Pulsar said:

It's worse on Console, but not anywhere near unplayable for most Killers.

This is true. It is more difficult on console with some killers that require precise movements and aiming: trickster, huntress, Oni, etc, which does require more practice. Unfortunately, not a lot of people are willing to put in the time sink to get better, which is understandable when the bar is set high and you want to have fun right away. The best you can hope for is to find an m1 killer that you enjoy and stick with it, and there are plenty to choose from.

  • The reason why a player disconnects is usually because there's something about the match they didn't like, and while I will acknowledge some valid reasons to disconnect, those valid reasons are very few and far between.

The bots are there for no other reason than to help lessen the sting from leaving the team high and dry. If a player decides to throw a temper tantrum and disconnect because something didn't go their way, then they've earned their time out.

  • I love how this thread has gone from "Give me your hot take", to "Let me crap on your hot take". 🫤

  • BHVR has already stated that killer bots will be coming into custom matches at some point, and it wouldn't surprise me if they too eventually take over for a disconnecting killer player.

  • I concur with others in that breakable walls have never seemed to be anything more than a Band-Aid fix. Instead of reworking a map to adequately benefit both sides, we instead have these structures that either need to be broken, or they need to be left alone. To me that just comes off as lazy, which I hate saying because I know the devs are anything but lazy.

This is why I really wish BHVR would dedicate a chapter to game balance. Spend a chapter or two dedicated to rebalancing maps and killers that struggle in today's current meta of DBD. The devs talk about how they can't be spread too thin, but if they were allowed to stop working on new content for a little while and instead focus on rebalancing, I think it would do DBD a lot of good.

  • Bloodhound is one of the most underrated perks in the whole game. A bright red trail that leads you straight to a survivor's location is better than any other tracking perk in the game.THERE, I SAID IT! LOL

  • I personally don't understand why the EMP crates are designed to open on their own. No other crate in the game works like that, and the fact that survivors can just keep running past them and grabbing them makes playing the Singularity a pain.

  • The other day I had a Sadako match that lasted 30min because she wanted to do the Mori challenge. It was absolutely abysmal. If survivors haven't been hooked after being downed more than once, then the game should really give you an option to leave the match without being penalized.

  • @GeneralV said:

    Freddy.

    That will never change.

Hey GeneralV, hope you've been well. I've been out the game for a while. Like you, I will always love Freddy. God how I wish for a Englund skin. It is nice to hear that he's getting a rework. What would you like to see?

  • @desperadoscres said:

because myers is not an issue

Survivor love to play against it

    Killer love to play myers

Nothing to change about it, change is when it break the balance or that the killer is unfun to play against

To each their own, but I couldn't disagree more.

Every match sees survivors spawning on top of generators, which means that killers have to be quick at getting the ball rolling. The last thing any killer needs is to start the game off with reduced speed and a reduced lunge attack.

Worse, Myers is the only killer that can literally run out of power. I played a match the other day where I had managed to fully stalk Nancy from a distance. While this was great and got me to level three fairly quickly, because it was near the start of the match it meant that anytime I encountered her, I had no power left to use against her. With Nancy I was nothing more than a standard m1 killer, which was a miserable experience.

Bottom line, something needs to change. A lot of people will agree that Myers has the strongest add-ons in the game, and I personally would be willing to forgo that if it meant that he could be given a rework that addresses those two biggest issues. Like I said to each their own, but he is not fun to play unless you're doing meme builds. DBD has changed quite a bit since he was implemented, and he needs a rework to better reflect where the game is at today.

  • Which is exactly why they can be so difficult to obtain. You could end up having a great match, but if you didn't do enough of the one thing the emblem is tied to, then your score will suffer as a result, which is just dumb. Like I said, I don't understand why they're still there.

  • The last two nights I've played a total of eight survivor games and didn't even make it to the end. I've been trying to acquire masks as survivor because I enjoy playing survivor more, but for some reason the devs just love seeing to it that survivors have a far more difficult time earning event items than killers.

Also speaking of emblems, those things need to be put to bed. Since they don't tie into your ranking in anyway shape or form anymore, they need to go. Just give a ranking based on how much you play. Seeing the devs shorten the amount of emblems required to earn event charms goes to show just how much of a pain in the ass earning emblems are, and as such they need to go away.

  • In a lot of my killer matches, it's not uncommon for 1-2 gens to be done before I've even gotten my first hook. Smart survivors will apply pressure by splitting up on gens, whereas smart killers will focus on the one survivor that is closer to being removed from the game.

A survivor's priority are the gens, and a killer's priority are the survivors. Blaming one another for getting the job done is ridiculous. If anything feels unbalanced, that's on the devs, not the player.

  • @Krazzik said:

I never get why survivors are so shocked when the killer decides to start camping or tunneling when they're doing badly. I just had a game where I only got my second hook after 4 gens had popped, like, of course I'm not going to continue 'playing normally' after that point, because I -need- to change it up if I'm gonna get any kills.

Now yes, it's my own fault for playing poorly that I ended up in that situation, but... why do survivors get so upset that I don't continue just hooking and running off to find someone else when clearly that didn't work for most of the game.

Yes, there's always a chance that we could play poorly, but I'd argue that most of the time it's not because you played poorly, it's just that the team was far more efficient and skilled than you were. Playing killer is no joke, as a single mistake can cost you the entire match. A lot of the time it's not fun, but at the end of the day you have to do what you have to do to get a kill.

I'll always find it funny when survivors complain that the killer killed them. It's like, yeah, that's the point. The killer's only objective is to kill you. I'm sorry they didn't do that in a nice way, but until the devs say that kills don't equal wins, then killers will continue to do what's necessary to get kills.

  • @Skittlesthehusky said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3476239#Comment_3476239

not necessarily true. you can have a very good and balanced game and still have individuals who develop an unhealthy relationship with it solely because of the reliance upon wins/losses rather than enjoying the experience. you even receive this kind of emotional response with singleplayer games!

breaks are warranted and are a necessity for anything, even outside of video games

When the devs clarified on what qualifies as a win, I think, only helped drive people's overall negativity with the game. Telling killers that the only way you win is through kills was completely the wrong way to go about it. The game should be balanced around hooks, but because they were told kills, that's what leads to many killers face camping and tunneling. Whereas with survivors they were told you have to escape. It doesn't matter if you looped the killer for five gens, if you died at the end then it wasn't really a good match, because you lost.

Knowing that we have devs with that kind of mind set behind this game, is going to prevent this game's community from growing, because the frustration is all too real if you're not doing exactly what the developers have said you need to do to win.

Simply put, the game needs to be rebalanced to where kills and escapes don't matter as much as the match itself.

i understand your viewpoint! your point highlights something to me that i have been trying to discuss with others lately; the importance of the player mentality.

yes, i agree that sometimes the best thing that can be done is to "shut the game off and move on".

i realize that despite the many challenges and difficulties that dead by daylight may provide to an individual, that a lot of us seem to hold ourselves to a standard that implies that we HAVE to stay committed to something we are just outright blatantly not enjoying. because of that, it forms an unhealthy relationship that is always at war with the positive content or traits that the game and community itself may provide; by staying committed to an unhealthy relationship, you are blinding yourself to what could potentially be a good thing because you become so used to (and gravitate more towards) the negativity surrounding the media.

competition naturally draws this out of people. dead by daylight at its core is a competitive game because it creates a rivalry between survivors and killers-- similar to a IRL sport like soccer, for example. with that being said, soccer can be very difficult when you play against people publicly because of the variance of skill levels, different field rules and restrictions, the conditions of the ground, the cleats you wear that day, the amount of air that's in the ball, the type of ball, etc.

with that being said, would you continuously force yourself to try to enjoy soccer if you are not enjoying the things it has to offer? would you maybe try to improve and embrace these variables? or, would you create something of your own and try to make soccer into something that's fun and easily accessible for you?

dead by daylight follows these same exact variables because it is the players that drives the experience. if everyone is always looking for the negativity in things, you're more bound to be pessimistic about the situation and the less likely you feel inclined to return. that's why i recommend for those who need a break, to take one. their perspective and feelings may be strained because they are consistently placing themselves in a position that causes too much tension.

I took a break for the longest time before hopping back in for the anniversary event. What I find funny is that I watch a lot of DBD on YouTube, which can be entertaining when you're watching people that have dedicated thousands of hours to the game, but for casual players like me, when I hopped back into the game I was quickly reminded just why I left in the first place!

  • I think what drives a lot of our fascination with DBD is that this game houses a lot of our favorite killers which naturally drives our interest to play the game, and seeing popular streamers upload fun matches also fans those flames. The thing we fail to realize though, is that a lot of the time it takes said streamers multiple hours to come across a single match that's worth uploading. Not to mention, DBD is not friendly to casual gamers, nor is it an easy game to step into for new players. You quickly learn before too long that solo survivor is maddeningly difficult, and killer is a sweat fest.

We see the fun that could be had, but sometimes the high learning curve with some killers mixed with the imbalance of skill-based matchmaking, does not make for fun experience. Sometimes the best thing we can do is shut the game off and move on.

  • @GentlemanFridge said:

This kinda already exists via Custom Match.

Except that you can't earn BP, XP, or event items. That's why it would be nice to have a separate mode that allows you to acquire at least BP and XP.

  • I stopped playing this game for a long time, and only recently did I come back to partake in the event. Now it's fair to say I'm a casual player of DBD, but you learn real quick that this game is not for casual players. I've been trying to earn masks as survivor, and have had an absolutely abysmal time doing it. Whereas if I load up a killer game, all I have to do is grab a scroll and go AFK. It kind of goes to show the one role that's needed the most in dead by daylight. Which isn't a huge surprise because playing killer is a sweat fest if you're playing against a good team.

The game comes with such a high learning curve, especially with its killers, that it is not very welcoming to new players. I will say however, that I'm glad to see that there are bots, and admittedly, the bots have gotten a lot better. I would definitely spend a lot of time there practicing killer before hopping into a live match if you're a new player. But if survivor is more your taste, then try to get friends that you can play with, because playing solo with other solo players can be a recipe for disaster.

I agree that survivors got the short end of the stick here. In your case, I'd bring a more selfish build. I got the last masquerade challenge (3 x gold Unbroken emblems - so basically escape after either being hooked once or not at all) done within 4 games by bringing Distortion, Overcome, Lucky Break, and WoO, as well as a medkit with an extra heal. It helped me get to the end so it might help you.

Most players would have the masks and reset is coming up next week, so everyone would be playing extra sweaty unfortunately. And I'm all too familiar with the calibre of solo queue team mates.

Honestly, I love being the default healer of the group. Being able to quickly heal my teammates is something that puts a smile on my face. But unless I'm playing with friends, solo queue makes that build frustratingly difficult. I guess I have no choice but to be more greedy.

Yeah, survivor side during the event has been rather painful to be completely honest. Especially if you are someone who play casually, and trying to have fun. To get the mask, you also have to complete all gens without dying, which is not always possible. Especially against killers like the one you highlighted.

Personal experience with the game during the event:

I tend to mostly get tryhards with the sweatiest builds, who show no mercy, and plays dirty (camping, tunneling etc.) to get the 4k game. Even if me and my friends show that we are friendly, and just want a fun time since well.. you know, it is a bloodpoints event after all. But when the killer goes "super saiyan tryhard" almost every game, it is really difficult to enjoy playing the Survivor side. And yes, we are the kind of people who goes out of our way (like bodyblocking, saboing or things like that) to try preventing someone from being tunneled out immediately, which is really boring. We don't play bad, it's the damn SBMM and competitiveness these days that dictates how (most) people play, and how sweaty opponents we get.

I tend to play killer a lot differently than others, I don't camp hooks or tunnel people out. I actually ROTATE people on hook, keeping count of how many hook stages they are on, I patrol gens, take good chases, and I can still win games by playing fair... As an example, I got a nice 4K game on RPD, both center gens got done:

I did not camp or tunnel anyone, despite them bringing flashlights. The Nea got some karma though in the end, as she was teabagging in the exit gate without realizing she was not far enough out 😅 The Leon was actively following me around, trying to get flashlight saves, hence why his score was so low.

Killer is really easy in comparison, as you need only the invitation to get the mask, and that's it.

No lie, I've been thinking about loading up killer games and just grabbing a scroll and going either AFK or farming. If that's literally all that BHVR requires from the killer, then so be it. Like you, I tend to not camp or tunnel, but you definitely feel the sweat when you don't. I'm a casual player too, and Dead by Daylight is definitely not built for casual players. After back to back miserable matches as survivor last night, I couldn't play anymore, so it's not hard to see why this game has a difficult time acquiring and keeping new players, especially if you're a solo player.

Decided to give it one more try, and the very next match we had a teammate DC and the killer showed no mercy at all, and killed us at five gens. It's like, what was the point of even bringing a cake?

  • Yes. You can create four custom loadouts and have one each attached to a separate bot. That being said, sometimes having to manually select everything can be very tedious, which is why I wish there was a randomizer function for equipping perks and items for the bots.

  • True, but the fact that survivors can just hold on to an EMP forever with their item and use it whenever they need it, has made playing with him really difficult against good teams. The fact that they can use an EMP mid chase, and be altruistic with their teammates makes playing as him frustratingly difficult.

  • The fact that he can run out of power is what drives me nuts about him. He's the only killer that is set up that way too. I played a match yesterday where I had managed to fully stalk Nancy, and every time I encountered her there was nothing I could do because I had no power left to use on her. That alone is ridiculous and needs to be changed.

  • I was trying to practice with him against the bots, but that proved to be impossible since the bots were always aware of when you're looking through a pod.

That being said, with BHVR now letting you carry secondary items as survivor without having to sacrifice your main item, has made playing the Singularity far more difficult than it should be. Attaching a pod to a survivor is difficult enough, but knowing that a survivor can just carry an EMP forever and use it to shut down the Singularity's power at any moment, is a tad much in my opinion.

  • With the game now having skill-based matchmaking, the emblems no longer apply to how you're ranked with other players, which means it's an outdated mechanic that needs to be done away with. It doesn't help either that some emblems are just a pain in the ass to get. It's why the community challenge for the event still remains unresolved.

Yea, it's why first day I did 12 killer matches in a row, first thing I did ws get my invitation, THEN play the game normally, or maybe 8 hook. Maybe not. But yeah, just farm the event items on Killer as the killer is guaranteed to get one. You can literally log into the game on killer, grab an inviation, then go AFK and you'll get an event item. Note, I AM NOT saying that going AFK is okay unless you have a legit reason you have to, just saying the fact that you can do that as killer and be guaranteed an event item no matter what, but a survivor has to actually not die until the exit gates are open...

That's just how nuts it is with killer versus survivor when it comes to event items. I think it goes to show just how little people are playing killer if all killers have to do is grab a scroll, and then go AFK if they want to. It's crazy.
