I keep wondering this myself, surely there's got to be a way to add you to my friend list despite being on different machines (I also have the game on the Switch Lite, I wonder if the request would show up there)? I believe that you sent it, twice now lol, but both times I looked in both Steam AND in-game and there are no pending invites or requests of any kind. But I do know that a buddy of mine plays on PS4 and somehow added me because I see him on my friend list. Maybe I need to give YOU my Steam profile code? If so, it's 231760069.
If that doesn't work I'll have to look it up, lol. It's silly that we haven't been able to play together, especially since our style seems the same.
Hmm... That did not seem to work. I checked the profile for the pending friend invite and it lists trophies for only a few games (Shadow of the Colossus, WWE 13, GTA 5, Mortal Kombat) but little else. Could this be an old console account or something?
Perhaps your friend can shed some light on this confusing situation as my initial Google search (I've not had time to be thorough, obviously) was a bust.

I'd definitely like to, your comments on sportsmanship made you someone I'd like to play with, should we have the opportunity to match up. I'm on Steam so I don't know if there's a certain reason I didn't see the invite or what. But I'll try adding you as well. Thanks!
Just had a thought - is there a way that someone on console is supposed to add a Steam user that you know of? I just checked and my invite is still sent and pending for 'miketheratguy' but maybe I did something wrong? Entirely possible! π

Thank you so much @GoodBoyKaru for doing this! I literally cannot thank you enough - I was bummed that I wouldn't have time to watch the video until this weekend and would have to wait for the information. This was so concise and informative, you're fantastic! π

Until they rank up and see what awaits...if only there was a casual mode and a ranked mode
By the time they get there they'll hopefully be hooked.... Ha.
But in all seriousness, I'm a Survivor who doesn't belong in the red ranks who is now there. But I love the game so even though I get stomped I stick around. There's plenty to like about the game. π

I'm so glad someone posted this!
A lot of people are probably going to try this game for the first time with the RE chapter and could be a huge boost to our current community. Shorter wait times (which are pretty short lately, hooray!), new Survivors/Players with different perspectives - I really want to see a whole new tide of people fall in love with this game and become fans with us!
-
Rather than tag everyone who responded since my last post I just want to say thank you for the responses!
I really love to learn about the Killer's perspective since I really don't play Killer and when I do it's humiliatingly bad (as opposed to Survivor which is often comically bad π ). Seeing things that were reoccurring, like 30-45 seconds being the ideal chase, was the kind of information I was looking for!
Happy gaming (and chasing!) to you all! <3

I like spooking survivors (tier 1 Mikey is awesome). Mindgaming is fun, making a prediction and being right. And using the killer's power is one of the more rewarding aspects of playing killer. If a killer's power doesn't feel fun and rewarding (like say Legion), then the killer is a chore.
So, parts of chases are fun. But the parts where I'm trying to catch up to the survivor and close that distance, the parts where I'm having to run around a pile of junk just to get a pallet thrown down so we can move on to the next pile of junk, that stuff isn't enjoyable from the killer's perspective. What's there to like about that? It's a walking sim. For the survivor it's the exhilaration of being chased, but for the killer it's pressure because they're losing time and gens are being worked on. Survivors have three teammates to share the load of chases and gens, but there's only one killer and he is very aware that he can't be in four places at once.
The more time the killer spends chasing one survivor is less time spent chasing the other survivors. Don't be greedy by monopolizing the killer's time: share the fun of being chased with your teammates. π
Spooky Mike is the best Mike! That's one of the most truly unique Killer builds and one of the hardest to survive against. It's the only that actually feels 'scary' to me! Good on you for keeping the horror in the game going.
That's a really interesting perspective! See, I think the piles of junk are the fun part because that's where the mindgames most happen in my experience. I can agree that easy loops are boring though. Or hallway chases, though even the slowest Killer can pretty quickly end a hallway chase. But the plays of figuring out who will go where is where I feel the most adrenaline! Or laughing at myself when I throw the palette down early or might have actually lost the Killer but didn't realize it so I turn the corner like an idiot and bump literally face first into their knives. Those are the fun moments of this game.
Haha well there's nothing to fear anymore! Generosity abounds! At red rank with how I play this game I'm basically just the fourth ornament on a Killer's hook. π

My favourite part of the game is the interaction between killer and survivor because it's the only part of the game where your skill actually matters, and the only part of the game that you can constantly learn and improve at. The rare occasions that you get a survivor that's confident in a chase there's always something to pick up on, and then it's up to you if you can pick apart their habits before they do the same to yours. And you have to switch your gameplay up when you're against someone that uses their brain.
So yeah I like chases. Obviously you can't be chasing someone for 60 seconds for each hit or anything, and I will break chase if it's the smart thing to do, but I'd prefer to chase that survivor than regress and control gens, traverse the map, find hiding survivors etc. because that stuff is boring and takes no skill and I'd much rather be in a chase where mine and the survivors skill matters.
I'm so glad to know that there are high tier Killers who feel that way! I was honestly feeling a little demoralized to think that I have to wait until the 13th to start going against people with a like minded perspective again while I'm trapped in the red ranks where I don't belong. π€£
But I absolutely agree! Interactions are the best part of the game - and of course a Killer has to know when to leave a chase. It'd also be really unbalanced/unfair if Survivor perks could drag a chase out to 6 minutes or something as then it's not a chase it's just a time waste. Just like 5 second 'chases' felt really... I don't want to say 'cheap' because no one did anything wrong, it was just boring for my personal perspective. A good balance, a few moments of plays before getting downed or escaping, is what makes this game so fun.

https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/251997/killers-a-genuine-question
The point of a chase is to catch you. Me personally, no... I don't enjoy long drawn out chases. Every second that passes is a ticking clock telling me my chances of winning the match are slipping away. Thus, I'm going to take you out as quickly and efficiently as I can. I'm not going to play Tom & Jerry cartoons with you, take on the role of Wyle E. Coyote for your amusement, or play tag. When I play Killer (I play both roles) I'm already thinking about the next chase, mind game, intercept, or ambush I need to launch even as I'm trying to put you in the ground.
You have to realize that Killers and Survivors have mutually exclusive goals. The longer a chase goes on, the better the odds for every single Survivor getting out alive. Of course Survivors enjoy chases more; that is commonsense. Even when a Survivor is downed, any chase that went 30+ seconds is a serious boost for the team. Thus, while you enjoy chases, most Killers deem them distractions and dangerous to his/her ability to pressure Generators.
Thank you for your answer!
Like I said I very much understand the mechanics of the game, the goals, that chases distract from gens, etc. I've been playing this game for years! πAnd I never suggested that the Killer (or Survivors) were there to amuse the other team or owed them anything. I also didn't say that anyone did anything wrong.
I was talking about any chase in general. I don't consider turning a corner on a L or T to get downed in a matter of seconds a chase, so with the emphasis on efficiency to the point of gameplay removal I was merely curious if it was because of a distaste for chases - like in your case it is! That's interesting/cool to know! I think it's less a difference between Killers and Survivors and more a matter of playstyle preferences and rank differences.
Red rank players who are there because they take the game very seriously and hone their skills obviously thinking about the game very differently than someone who doesn't take the game seriously, who in green ranks regularly helps the other Survivors escape then throws themselves onto hook for Killer if they played well, etc. I'm the latter! I just unfortunately am red rank because if you so much as touch a generator or another Survivor you basically pip - which is a balance issue, not a player issue.

The thing is the higher you go the more desire to win is, and one thing that is a necessity to winning is quick chases. Quick winnable chases turn the game in the killers favour. And all exposed effects have a counter, so it's just a matter of playing smart.
As a killer, I love chases too. Especially mindgames and stuff. But I also feel the need to win, hence why I'll stack up DH or run a slowdown anti heal build to ensure I have a chance.
Its not because we don't enjoy chases, it's because if we want to win we need shorter ones.
Right you are! And that is definitely why I'm so hopeful for a new matchmaking system eventually (I've been talking about that on here for like over a year though) so that people who are very serious about winning aren't paired with casual gamers.
I actually don't know Starstruck's counter - what is it? πI don't run meta perks, I just usually play around with unusual builds I come up with, but I'm always interested in knowing gameplay counters.
I think what inspired this post is how short the chases were in my 20+ games tonight. Even with rank 1 Survivors with meta perks. I saw a few that lasted 20+ seconds but I'm not exaggerating when I say I could count those on one hand. I mean I don't even think I had a single match tonight that got close to ten minutes long. Which is impressive, the Killers were really good, but it was like I said where I felt chases weren't even part of the game.
-
@BioX said:
I mean I get what you are saying sorta but the thing is, the killer is trying to catch you and you are trying to avoid that so the longer the chase goes on the worse a killer is doing, it's mutually exclusive.
Now I do agree there is nothing fun about downing a dilly survivor in 3 seconds, like with camping etc I just call that a non-match and sadly those happen for me personally more and more
And I definitely do understand not wanting to go on a several minute long chase - like I understand the way the game works. I am just baffled by how short the chases are. I used to be red rank consistently and I don't remember chases being this non-existent, especially not for other players.
When a 'chase' is turning one corner and taking a few steps I just don't see how any of that is fun for either side. Which is why I started this post, because maybe that is fun for Killers! I'm almost exclusively a Survivor so it was worth asking. Thanks for answering!

That's really odd.
You should have at least gotten a couple Deathslingers, Blights, and Wraiths as well - I see so many of those in red ranks lately.
Plague has also been popular as of late in my games.
---
Other than that, sounds about right.
I was actually thinking to myself, "I'd love to go against a DS or a Plague just to mix it up!" at the end. After 23 rounds I had only one round that wasn't these three Killers. I even used two items to send me to a map I really wanted to play since I hadn't seen it all night and back-to-back I got Bubba on the map. It was honestly comical.
@DistortedDream said:
Yeah, Those killers are (typically) very common at red ranks.
I'm hoping to de-pip naturally soon. Rank 10-12 is where I win some and lose some, any lower and I hardly ever see anyone escape and it's becoming the same Killers with the same perks getting 4ks. And that's okay! I'm just not a competitive player, I don't use any of the meta perks actually because I like to experiment with odd combos, so I have no business going against serious players.

https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/X0706OPQQDSU/dbd-ranks.png
I voted green, and I still think I deserve to be in green. I managed to get to red ranks as survivor and purple ranks as killer, but truthfully, I'd say I play like a green rank on good days and a yellow rank on bad days (as both roles).
This is fantastic, I didn't even think to make it a poll rather than just conversation thread. Thank you for digging that up to share! π

I'd say I belong anywhere between ranks 13 to maaaaaybe 10 as killer? I think 12 is a nice solid place though for me. Either way as long as I'm not facing rank 1 tryhard SWF bully teams. It's infuriating getting thrown in to those matches because I am no where near equipped to even be able to entertain the idea of trying to deal with sweaty tryhards like that.
That's how I feel against the red rank Killers. Like I said I just get so entirely bored. And that's not saying bad about people who take the game really seriously, want to play perfectly, use all of the meta perks, etc! For people who enjoy those kinds of games that's awesome! But how people like me end up in red tiers with them is the baffling bit.

I could not agree more. Honestly? I think rank 5+ should be what you described. 1-5 should be the most expert players. 6-10 could be people who are really good but aren't at the pro level. 11-15 could be those people who are decent at the game and know the mechanics and how to chase/be chased. 16-20 should be new people or someone who is really casual.

I saw this outfit three times last night, each time with a different head. The blonde, the smoking, and the shades one. π So glad they do male eye candy cosmetics too!

I would agree with this and am so glad that someone made this post to point it out! The people I've interacted in this community are largely positive, funny, and interesting people! Are there hateful people? Yes! But are they even remotely the majority? No!
As a community there does seem to be some ultra-sensitive responses to perceived toxicity or a disproportionate kind of anger and upset about it. It is human nature to remember the bad before the good, to be hurt when slighted, but in my opinion some of the responses to things seem... I'm struggling for the word in English. They just seem more?
Tea bagging for example is rude and pointless, certainly, and is done only to provoke a reaction in your opponent or to celebrate your own victory. It is childish. But the reactions on these forums in particular would make it seem that this game was the only one tea bagging had ever existed in and that it hadn't been a tradition since crouching was first introduced in a PvP game. Maybe it is Halo PTSD making it so severe? I don't know. And while I'm sympathetic to people's upset and anger it never ceases to baffle me how many endless posts we see about BM from both sides.
-
There's so many fantastic suggestions here! The cemetery is especially great, the idea of a river/gorge map, I love the idea of a medieval castle, a cave/mine, and another snowy map! It'd be so cool if a dev saw this thread because there are some genius ideas!
@Gwinty I cannot even explain how much I love your idea! I have never considered a college before! But they could totally lean into that, have a School's Out chapter, have a psycho professor as the teacher (the community would go crazy for a male or female professor honestly, either would have the thirst) with some really twisted lore, have a typical 90's or early 2000's college kid horror trope Survivor, and an ivy league looking college for the map... I think I like this even more than my idea now! π

I like half of what we've seen thus far, personally! Their hair looks a bit more organic and natural to me.
- Meg looks less harsh and more youthful and more like a girl-next-door which is more fitting to her backstory. I've heard her referred to as Methhead Meg in her current design so I think the more cute and soft face is a step in the right direction.
- Jake looks more realistic and unique in his appearance. I also find the Jake redesign quite handsome which I don't think of the current version of him.
- Dwight... This one breaks my heart. I've always thought of Dwight as so stinking cute. He's the only male character I've bought items on and I have this cute Dwight x Kate ship in my head. I gather from his backstory that he was never meant to be a dreamboat or anything but I think he took a step back in his design.
- Claudette doesn't have as much change as I'd have liked to see. I don't think her design is bad and she does look more realistic but aside from improving some textures it really seems that all they did was lower her brow a bit. I was hoping for a bit more for her.
-
I think to new or unaware Survivors it is definitely considered rude. But I think a lot of us know that one hit is just you hitting the mute button! Which I personally appreciate as much as the Killers do! π

You'll notice, by the way, that every Survivor post against me has upvote posses backing them up, while no Killers that agree with me are doing the same by upvoting my posts. This is because of the difference in how each side fights their battles.
In the same scheme, someone went ahead and downvoted my YT videos, as well.
That's just how you guys fight. That's just how you guys are.
The kind of generalizing statements you make against Survivors are not going to do you any favors in games or on the forums, TGB. Especially when this thread (as well as many of your others) have numerous people who are Survivor mains or at least Survivor/Killer split being extremely kind and supportive in their posts. I myself have commented on several of your posts trying to be supportive and to help alleviate the frustration you're feeling and have regularly checked back into this one in particular in hopes of seeing someone else achieve the same thing.
This community has rude players, sure, but what community doesn't? There's also a lot of genuinely kind, funny, and encouraging people here who you're even crossing paths with who you're being dismissive of. Try to see the positivity and the welcoming atmosphere you've come across with people sending offers to help you with builds, dissecting over an hour of gaming footage for you, or just offering up their attempts at being helpful. It might help you break out of this cycle of constantly being on the verge of quitting and coming to the forums to talk about how you've been slighted by the game, the RNG, the players, etc.
You seem overly eager to demonize Survivors to the point where you're now finding insult and injury in forum vote distribution. People may be liking some posts more than others because they agree with them or the way that someone says something just as they might not be upvoting you because they don't agree or appreciate your constant negativity towards Survivors.

No, I don't. And I think it's sad we're forced to try and do that anyway because 3 or 4 survivors will wear the exact same outfit. And if you say, "Just lobby dodge." that kind of proves it's a problem, doesn't it?
I was thinking more along the lines of positive interactions. Like oh, that's UsernameJohnDoe, he was fun to play against. That kind of thing! But obviously it goes both ways for negative interactions as well.
Do people dodge matches if they see identical Survivors? That's interesting, I didn't know that. I don't see that often but usually when people do that I think it's just them being silly or meme-y. They all take hits the same way regardless of cosmetics. π

Today I ran into a Dwight called "My favorite ######### is dead #########."
Not only did the name seem too long to appear in full in the DBD, but on top of that when I saw his Steam profile a different name appeared. The Dwight also had legacy clothes, and as you can imagine, he was a hacker.
It wasn't a bad game because he wasn't the typical hacker who just annoys and #########, it was more fun than I expected (I got 2 kills because the guy basically didn't care about his premade, he just wanted to show me how he flew, repaired engines instantly, it healed instantly, had infinite firecrackers, etc).
It's one of the strangest names that I have come across and I found it quite curious that just the same day that I see that name there is a thread about the names of the survivors π.
What a weird match! I don't see hackers often (probably because I play on the PS4) but for someone to not be spammy but just... Proud to show off that they bought/downloaded some hacks is so strange. πDo you run into hackers often?

Yes but only against my personal "Black List" and not anywhere else. If I have a Player use Hacks or Lag Spikes during a match, I add them to the Black List. If I have a Player engage in vile chatter at the end of the match (and we are talking really nasty) I add them to the list. Why would I give them a game again?
That's very reasonable, yes! If someone is not just salty but outright abusive then I wouldn't want to repeat the experience again either!

Yes I remember all of them. For the ones that stood out to me, I write their names down in my long black list so every time I enter a lobby I spend the whole count down searching for their names on my list.
I remember one time I had a Freddy that nodded at me and hit me when I was on the hook, well it took a while but one day the roles were reversed and I was a spirit. Thank god his team was trash.
Another time there was this pig that decided to camp me and hit me when I was on the hook, my teammates all escaped and the killer only managed to kill me. I didnβt like that so they all got their dues.
What's your username? Maybe you're in it.
I've never been so tempted to give out my username just to know if I'm in that terrifying book of yours. LOL I like to think that if I'm on any lists they are the positive ones as I have never and will never tea bag, I only lurk near exit gates if I'm ensuring other Survivors make it, I don't bring keys unless a Rift challenge demands it, same for flashlights, etc. And I send a lot of positive messages. So hopefully I'm in nobodies black book. haha
-
The devs make outfits more frequently for the most played characters rather than simply trying to give each character equal treatment. Creating new assets for any character takes time and money so from a practical standpoint there isn't a ton of reason to create outfits for whomever is played the least. I don't have those analytics before me obviously but I do know from other posts about fan favorites that characters like Dwight, Meg, Kate, and Feng are favored which is why they have so many more outfit options.
There's also the issue of licensing for some of them. For example, Freddy will probably never get more outfits because his image is set to one specific look. It's probably not allowed with their contract on him to change his iconic image.
-
More Kate outfits are always welcomed! I'm still waiting for goth Kate and more casual outfits like Flower In The Dark! Cute and casual works so well on her.
-
Pretty art! Kate really does have Final Girl vibes!
-
I do wish it was more difficult to rank up so that perhaps people would stall out in their actual rank. I returned to the game only a few days ago, three I believe, and have played for a few hours each night. I went from a rank 20 Survivor and I'm down to a single digit rank. This is despite not escaping most of my chases and even fewer rounds.
I play to have fun and will sometimes give myself to the Killer if they've had a rough round, I tend to play altruistically, I farm Rift challenges so sometimes I do things that make little sense - basically I will do whatever so long as it doesn't actively make the game more difficult or unfun for the other Survivors or the Killer. I don't think I'm terrible at the game but am I great? No. Good? Barely and only on occasion.
Yet I'll probably be red rank in another day or two at this rate. π And then play against really competitive Killers with meta perks and really competitive Survivors with meta perks.
-
I was gone for awhile due to life reasons so if I don't factor in those months... Probably a few weeks worth of matches? When I do SWF it's usually just myself and one or two other people.
-
To everyone who informed me that all it takes is the final 1% of the gen to register in Dark Senses - thank you!!!
I thought I had to take four gens from 0-100% by myself. I have been going at that challenge so wrong for so long. You're all saviors. I think that was a language barrier issue and me being too literal minded about the wording! π
-
A werewolf chapter would be a return to the more spooky nature of the Dead by Daylight atmosphere! I also like your idea for the howl ability though I think it would feel like a weaker Doctor since his shock abilities reveal your location but also start to stack madness. And seeing him run at you on all fours would definitely be creepy and intense!

Again, you're exactly right. I think with Dead By Daylight's partnership with Resident Evil, they'll have a huge gap to work on special projects, I kinda feel this nudge on the back of my head that they've been planning this or at least thought about it anyhow. Rifts, skins, and other nice goodies could and can keep their game a float economically as well. If they did more art contest, they could also bring it a lot more revenue both community and income at the same time while theoretically doing less work.
You are probably on to something!
I really hope that you are right! This game is fantastic and has a community of fans who love it and invest their time and money into it still after five years which is saying something for this type of game!
With the updates in graphics that they've done and continue to plan on pushing and a little bit of focus like we've been talking about then this game could easily survive into the next gen of consoles!

Exactly! You hit the nail right on the head! Everything you said is completely and utterly true. Even with "I don't think they know the answer to the problems anyway" that's what I want to focus on if you don't mind. They don't, not saying that as an insult, no. Quite the opposite actually, we all go through this. Everyday, whether it's work or home, we sometimes get stumped at something that just takes us back for a while. Which is my main point, I believe that they need to stop with their ever creeping three month deadlines and focus on the core concept of their game. It's hard to focus on a few big elements while constantly being stuck on a deadline, for their and the game's health. I believe they need to stop with the deadline and look at the big picture. Everything I say is NOT an insult to their intelligence, their work, or their competence. I want/will reiterate this point a lot so if the off chance a dev sees this post, they'll understand that this isn't some jerk crapping on them.
I don't think what you're suggesting is a bad idea at all. At the rate that they put out new chapters (which is impressive and appreciated) in an attempt to keep the game fresh and new players ever-joining I can't imagine it is very easy to also manage the existing content. It would probably have a really positive effect on the opinion of the community as well as the game itself if after the RE chapter they came forward and said that instead of new content they wanted to focus on pushing out some updates/patches to the game itself.
I would personally love that! And they could put out a new Rift if they want to satisfy the desire for new items in the game and let people grind for skins and charms while they are improving matchmaking, hitboxes, and other commonly known issues the game has.

I was able to complete every single challenge in the archives up to this point, but might I say that how you describe how you'll probably get the Dark Sense challenge is exactly how both myself and my friend got the challenge. We sat on generators while the other 3 kept the killer busy.
I don't SWF very often and when I do it's typically with one other person, at most with two. Unfortunately I don't think I can coordinate something like that. I have to hope for a farming round where the Killer and Survivors are off playing knock down - pick up, I think! π₯

The devs are in a hard place though because long wait times scare off new players just as much (if not more in my experience) as unfair trials. In the case of your friend he knew the game was unfair and unbalanced but you could also explain that that is not always the case.
In 2020 (PS4, pre-crossover) I tried to get three friends into the game. I wish I was exaggerating when I say that we waited 10+ minutes for each round. Then the rounds would last less than the wait time and then we'd start over again. They tried it in pairs and saw mixed results on faster times but inevitably gave up because they felt the game was dead and that they were spending more time waiting than playing.
I think that they are damned if they do and damned if they don't, unfortunately! And I don't think they know what the answer to the problems are.

Iβm stuck on the Dwight one where you have to hide for a minute in the killers tr. I canβt throw a match to do it lol
That is such a tough one! You basically have to stalk a Killer!

Depends on your platform. Stadia players can already do this, and I believe Switch is nearly there, so anytime soon.
If you mean Xbox/PlayStation to PC, then yeah the devs know this is wanted by the community but there's no timeframe nor any guarantee it'll ever happen.
Yes, I was hoping to go from PS4 to PC rather than buying a PS5 at some point to get my DbD fix. Thank you for letting me know, I'll keep my fingers crossed until then! π

I've got a computer I spent over 4k on (I do a lot of PC gaming) then I go to my living room to play DbD on my PS4. I love this game, I love the community, but it hurts me every time. LOL

The one true answer to this thread. He and Quentin have their own little sadness corner, where even Myers and his wardrobe of two gazes pitifully upon them. (Or maybe he's just stalking them.)
They really need to try and negotiate something. Freddy is Freddy. He deserves more than this.
I've not seen all of the Nightmare films so I could very much be wrong but isn't Freddy's look always the iconic sweater? They've probably not done much for Freddy because without his solo look someone might not instantly recognize him. Or they might be only able to use looks that have been in the films like Michael's other cosmetics.
