There’s two things we as a community need to understand: 1) This unsportsmanlike behavior you are seeing more often is not the direct cause of SBMM, but the INDIRECT cause of it. Players who once rarely encountered it, and now see an “uptick”- it’s only because matchmaking is throwing more of the bottom feeding killers at you from the old ranking system. The ones you wouldn’t have normally ran into on a consistent basis. 2) This is the big one- A LOT OF LITTLE KIDS PLAY THIS GAME. We need to really come to the realization of that. They’re immature, so they do stuff like slugging you and ringing Wraith’s bell or throwing Huntress’ hatchets at you until you bleed out on the floor. They’re the ones that face camp, tunnel, and dont play survivor. The ones that do? Ragequit when things dont go their way. They’re also the ones too scared to do the last gen when there are only 2 or 3 survivors left. If you look at some of their profiles you’ll see the tall tell signs of a kid gamer like a generic gamer pic, recently played Roblox, Fortnite, Minecraft, and Gangbeasts. Other things as well that add up. These are the same kids that ruined Friday the 13th by shooting fellow counselors, running them over with the car, screaming into their mics, and teaming up with Jason.

Now don’t get me wrong, not every kid that plays DBD is toxic, and adults display the same toxic behavior as well as play the games I mentioned above, but if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck…

I'd not considered the age of the player base. I wonder if there is a metric for that - I know that some games will sometimes poll that information to find out certain demographics about their community. I haven't done a lot of checking into profiles but now that you've pointed it out I'm unsure how frequently I see things that would indicate a young gamer. I'll have to start checking/looking out for that now. 🤔 Thank you for your post! I appreciate fresh perspectives.

I ran into a Freddy today they were only running Hangman's Trick, and when one of us asked "Hangmans Trick? Doing the challenge?" the Killer just said "the joke is I am hanging myself this week", and then nothing else he probably left.

We made a support ticket, and tried to send them friend invites, but haven't gotten a response. I hope the person is doing okay. Honestly the situation is an eye opener to the amount of stress Killers get in this game, and I'm sure he is probably going through something personal in his life too.

That's good that you filled out a support ticket and tried to reach out to the person. At the end of the day that is all that you can do and it was most likely just a grim joke. If they weren't then you're right that it would be caused by things going on in their life - I think that it would be a bit of a stretch to equate the stress of playing this game to someone snapping and killing themselves. But I hope in regards to that person that is neither here nor there - I hope they are okay.

Good on you for taking it seriously and trying to help. That's very kind of you.

Damn KM, you talk too much. ;P

In all seriousness I've noticed what you're talking about, yes. There have been times in the past where killers have toyed with me for no apparent reason other than pure toxicity, trying to lead me to think that they're being magnanimous when in fact they're just prolonging the end of the match so they can betray me at the last minute. They remain blissfully unaware that I'm cynical and distrustful by nature so as soon as it happened once I now assume that it's going to happen again anytime anyone shows the signs. Just the other day someone slugged me at the end of the match, brought me to the door, and spent a good 30 seconds getting me back up. I told my friend, who was spectating, "watch. You KNOW what's going to happen. Should we be surprised?" and sure enough, once the player went through all the nonsensical time-wasting theatrics and allowed me to crawl within an inch of the gate, he picked me back up and returned me to a hook. "I am so utterly surprised", I told my friend as he laughed. "This is just so thoroughly unexpected".

I've gotten a couple of "haha, no hatch for you" time-wasting plays as well lately. So yeah, I have to agree, while I haven't seen a SUBSTANTIAL uptick in this unique kind of killer toxicity, I HAVE nonetheless seen more of it lately than I used to. The part that doesn't make much sense to me (other than everything else about it) is that I don't behave in a way that calls for it, I don't use keys or maps or flashlights and I never teabag. Just a killer being a jerk for no apparent reason. Not that survivors don't do the same thing on a regular basis though.

As I said, I'm cynical by nature. In a way I'm surprised that I don't see this kind of childish crap MORE often.

Wow! That's rude, Mike! :P ... Just wait until you see your wall post! LOL

I'm disappointed to hear that you're encountering this too but am at least relieved that it's not as frequently as I am! That's really funny about you and your friend though! I can usually laugh things off in that same manner and just roll with the punches. In fact I'm pretty sure I've made plenty of posts advising people to do the same.

The fact that I can't lately or that I have been finding myself frustrated even after the match is a sign to me that I'm just getting overwhelmed by the frequency and mostly likely need to take a break. I just wish I understood why it is happening but it seems to be that the unanimous answer is just that people are lashing out. It's a shame. And I'm like you with how I play! I've literally never tea bagged, I don't use keys, and the only time I flashlight is when the Rift calls for it and even then I'm bad at it and never spam someone with it or do anything that would be in any way considered bad mannered. So it does feel super unfair - though at this point I probably sound like I'm whining.

  • @Marc_go_solo said:

Is this a server-based thing? Because I've not come across this behaviour much at all! At most, I had one Cenobite who tunnelled me really badly - like the very definition - and even then it was probably because the Cenobite had just come out and he wanted to see the Mori. Certainly not seen many killers at all act the way you described (although I hope you reported them. A Huntress lobbing hatchets at you with no attempt to hook whilst you're on the ground for that long I do believe is reportable).

As for why people do this, it's inadequacy. People try to disguise it as feeling disrespected or because they can or whatever crap they say, but the very core is the feeling of never being good enough. It's not game-related; this can come through a feeling of weakness or lowliness in any area of their life, but it ends up reflected on others and is far more dangerous than you'd think:

An example was a video that appeared on my feed yesterday. Obviously I won't mention names, but it was one person calling out another of being a hypocrite because they tried to make out people needed to be more understanding, but then called out another streamer (calling them "cancer"), with the kicker being that streamer had lost a parent to that horrid disease recently and had posted about it previously.

I know this is not in-game, but it was post-game comments. And it just comes down to feeling weak and not important enough. But it damages everyone, including them. And it's at a far greater scale in general life with how much pressure people are put under to be something impossible to attain.

It might be! I play on a North American server and like I said it's been disproportionate and relentless lately. I'm glad that you're not running into it frequently! I did report several of them, yes, because it's been reportable behavior. Like I said before I'm not talking about just things like camping and tunneling - the devs have already said that those are valid tactics. The behavior I'm talking about is the Huntress or the really sad story that you told. I hope that this tide changes because I really and honestly don't think that this community will grow. It will just shrink down - there's been an uptick in 'goodbye' posts on here even it seems.

The whole thing is just really sad!

  • @ThiccBudhha said:

I do not condone this behavior unless they flashlight blinded you. Because otherwise I would be a hypocrite. Flashlight users need to learn that as a Mogwai, bright lights turn me into a Gremlin, it is really the survivor's fault when you think about it. I had one rule and they broke... I weep for them.

Killers doing it unprovoked are beta.

Do you begin to be bad mannered if you're flashlight stunned at all or is it only if they are abusive about it? I hope that it's the latter! If someone is flashlight spamming and tea bagging after their stuns then I understand being upset with them. Gremlin away! But I think that typical/normal gameplay shouldn't be punished. 😊

Unfortunately, the people who are exhibiting "toxic" behavior in the game, from either side, either aren't going to read this post, or if they are, they won't answer here. I do appreciate your asking the questions though, and anyone who addresses toxicity in the community and wants to have a dialogue about it is worthy of respect. 👍️

My guess would be what some have pointed out already -- people have a bad experience heaped onto them, but instead of moving past it, they retaliate against the next group/individual they run across in an attempt to get a measure of "justice" or "revenge". But this accomplishes nothing but to continue the cycle of unsportsmanlike behavior unfortunately. FWIW, I play 50/50 and have seen some pretty shameful behaviors in-game before, but I will say that my own experiences haven't seen an uptick in my matches in BM'ing on either side lately any more than I'd seen before.

I played a match late last night/early morning after being curbstomped in a ridiculous run of matches where I was, for lack of a better word, getting gen-rushed so fast, it was ridiculous. I finally altered my Pig build, slapped on NOED (which I NEVER run) and Blood Warden and prepared to "punish" the next team that rushed out the gens so fast. I ended up on Red Forest, found two people on a gen ... and they immediately moved to Boop me (my Pig rules have always been, you boop, you live, no matter what). I took a deep breath, took the boops, and the farming began. I found the other two survivors who Booped as well. The gens all were done, I led the Steve to my NOED totem to break (not hitting anyone, since I didn't want to think I was "turning" on them), they let me get some hooks in, and then I opened the gates and they all conga-line walked out the gate, me right behind them.

They, like me, were all on console, so I messaged one. They were Gold/Iridescent Levels like myself and a 4-person team, and talking to the one I did, they were shocked when they saw the build and presumably realized how easy it would have been for me to ambush them and 4K at the end but didn't. I explained why the build was there, but that my heart wasn't into it, and that when I play against memesters like them, it makes up for every flashlight-clicking, teabagging, classless winner I might go against in other matches. They remarked that the game needs more wholesomeness in it, which I wholeheartedly agreed. It was a sign that, even though it sometimes feels like toxicity is everywhere, there ARE plenty of people who play the game that aren't like that at all -- and when you run into them, it reminds you why you play the game you do. 😊

Hey, @ChiSoxFan11, I appreciate your kind words! Thank you! I'm always happy to run into like-minded people who have a positive and respectful approach to discussing the issues of this game. 👍️

Thank you for sharing your story! And you're totally right - all it takes is a really fun/good match to turn the mood around. Hopefully people will remember that and will take a note from your book and start being that Killer who occasionally does something silly or friendly. I do that a lot with Killers, actually! If I see a Killer is trying really hard and is playing a fair game but is just not having much success I think to myself that they are either new to the game, new to that Killer, or are just having a really 'off' night. I'll complete gens and will ensure that my teammates escape and then I'll throw myself on hook for the Killer. Often times running them right to a hook and pointing. 🤣 I'll also do this if a Killer did an amazing job and made me sweat and didn't get any kills. Or if I'm the last person and it was more luck than skill I'll open the door and run them to a hook or run them to the hatch and step away and point so that they know I'm not just trying to show off that I found the hatch but rather that I want them to close it and hook me.

There's positive people on both sides! Unfortunately I feel like I'm just seeing less and less of them (or lately literally none). Hope to cross paths with you in game one day! I'll be booping snoots until I do! 😂

Personally I dont think its the fault of this game or other players as much as its a consequence of this covid world we are currently living in. Isolation and boredom are 2 factors that usually bring out the worst kind of toxic players without them sometimes even realizing it. Now I am not saying that to excuse this behavior just that its going to keep happening until alot of the player base gets the real lives in order and are so disgusting in how they play and socialize in a game setting. I do hope it eventually gets better otherwise some of these behaviors could become engrained in people and they bacially stay impacted by this covid mental health. At least your bringing this up so as to have a conversation about it and thats a good start it will perhaps get other players to realize this could be talking about them. Anyways I wish you the best of luck as well as peace of mind in the future.

That is an interesting and bleak take that probably has some validity. I think a lot (perhaps even most) people who dedicate themselves to any hobby do so as a form of escapism as much as entertainment. I certainly know that gaming is that for me - to think that the unhappiness in the world is bleeding over into recreational online communities is honestly pretty depressing. Thank you for your response!

It's a good reminder to remember that the person who is being toxic could have some serious real-life issues going on that they are just venting. It isn't an excuse and it's irrational, childish behavior but it at least casts a sympathetic light on them.

  • @Objectively_speaking said:

I can understand why those killers slug for so long.

<Background events> I have gone against teams who will literally only LET you slug them as they all run to a corner with no hooks and who will literally destroy <actually> newer killers and literally wish death on you for just hooking them. I can count on one hand the number of times a killer has dmed me toxic stuff but because survivors are so numerous it is likely that one person is going to be rude. I have also went against survivors who abused flashlight saves <locker stuff> and more just to get sent a message from them after the game telling me to self forever sleep.

However, if you want to know why people like to make others suffer or killers slug for four minutes <often> its because they feel like making others suffer as they have suffered. Mostly, its not you or any other survivors fault but like some other people have stated it is a cycle. The easiest way to understand this is with an example

Say you stub your toe on a wall re-actively most people would be mad at the wall <even though it literally did nothing> because they feel the wall made them get hurt.

Ironically, all it takes is a few times of where a survivor or killer hurts you and then people start to feel apathetic to them because in that moment they stop being human and shift into a killer main or survivor main and this shifts people thinking. It is mostly just irrational and emotion filled thinking that leads to those kinds of players.

Also there are some people who just like watching others suffer but I doubt that they would just slug you because it is more thrilling if you have the chance to fight back but eventually give up.

TLDR | They play that way because they thrive of making others feel bad or feel as they have feel. Also I kind of went on a rant and some of it may not make sense but wanted to give some info on why some might be rude.

I appreciate your reply! And what you're saying is what I figured would be the case in the long run - that there is no real reason beyond pettiness, immaturity, and the wrongful direction of frustrations. The sad thing about this is that all that it does long-term is hurt the player base and continue the reputation this game has for a nasty community.

I've had a few friends refuse to try this game with me because they've heard bad things about the community. I so wish that we could change the reputation of this game for the better!

  • @DarKaron said:

As a Killer Main, unfortunately, that's just the state this game is in at this point.

Nobody likes getting steamrolled time and time again, and for most Killers, this is their reality.

They play the game, expecting to at least get a decent match out of it, but then they get toxic tryhard sweatlord SWF meta build clicky clicky butt-dance GGEZBabyNoobTunnelCamperKiller Survivors on a constant basis, and it simply makes the game unfun, so they decide to spread the hate to the poor individuals such as yourself who don't deserve it, but are on the out because those same SWF players don't care about helping anyone beyond their own group, and even if everyone is playing together, the Killer will do everything they can to secure their kill, if not rub it in the face of those who MIGHT be those jerkwads who go around like that.

These are troubling times, and I don't know if DBD will truly recover.

Thank you for your reply, @DarKaron. I would be really interested to see any recent metrics (I can't find anything that isn't outdated) about the win/loss ratio. I remember last year specifically there was something about how over 50% of Killer games were 4k and how less than something like 32% of Survivor games were escapes. I'd be really interested to see if this imbalance has had a massive pendulum swing and learn what sent it in favor of Survivors.

I think there's a lot of confusion because Survivor mains that I know talk about how they will go entire days of playing without getting a single escape. And then the Killer mains that I know talk about how they are constantly being steamrolled. I want to know who these winners are because no one I know from either side feels like a winner or like they are getting a fair game right now. Moreso than ever it seems.

You're probably right that this is just an endless cycle of aggression creating more aggression. It's... Sad. And I don't know if the game will recover either. I'm pretty much at my threshold personally - with all of the toxicity and negativity in the real world in my country I don't need it in my escapism either. I'll probably retreat for a few months and come back at a later date at this rate...

  • @GeneralV said:

I am probably not the best person to answer this right now. I've already left the game and have little to no idea of what is currently going on, so this posts about an increased toxicity are a mystery to me.

However, I believe that the toxicity in DBD comes from an endless cycle. T-bagger zero, and cursed may he be, probably annoyed a killer at some point and this killer got his revenge by annoying other survivors. In turn, those survivors annoyed a different killer, and the rest is history. Being toxic in DBD no longer has a meaning, it is just another part o this endless cycle.

Hey, @GeneralV, thanks for replying. You're right about the ebbs and flows of toxicity and about Dead by Daylight having a bad reputation and history of toxicity. Any veterans like us know that and have seen it in the game and on the forum for years now. What I'm trying to ask and to understand is what active Killers think they are accomplishing. I'm fully prepared for that answer to simply be "Well I was mad at a different Survivor so I bullied other people" or "Well I don't like the game balance so I'm punishing other players for it" but I really do like to believe that people aren't that immature or vindictive. Perhaps there's not going to be an enlightening answer because this behavior is just petty, immature bullying but... I don't know. You know me! I try to see the good in people/situations or at least understand them. 😅

I wish the puzzle box was like the yellow glyph. It would be much more fun.

I thought of that too! If it were like the yellow glyph but didn't disappear, rather just forced you to keep going until you got X number of sequential successes, it would have been a lot more stressful and interesting than the generic skill checks. I mean I was hoping that solving the puzzle box would have me hurrying and sweating and focused on it, muttering 'come on, come on' to myself. Instead I was casually rotating my camera to make sure the coast was clear. LOL

My dream survivor? That is...an interesting question.

Mine would be a long time survivor who has been stuck in the Entity's Realm for as long as she can remember.

In terms of appearance and costumes, she would follow the same aesthetic as the original survivors (and early DBD in general), but inclined towards the killer's, indicating that she is on the brink of insanity. Her Prestige would consist of wounds inflicted by different killers (Freddy's claws, Billy's chainsaw, and the list goes on) and A LOT of blood.

Backstory- As I said, a long time survivor who can't take it anymore, and is very close to switching sides and becoming a killer.

As for perks, I have no ideas yet. Maybe I can think of something, eventually.

I love the idea of an old-timey Survivor! One from the distant past would be great for appearances and the idea of her battle-hardened aesthetic is interesting! Great concept!

I was so disappointed when they had Ghostface but not Sydney. I later learned that they couldn't get Scream so they used the unlicensed mask and just did an unofficial Scream pack, but to have had it be official and to have had Sydney and a map would have been so cool. It would have been so cool to have the Woodsboro movie set from... I think that's the third movie? An indoor map with the 'outdoor' of Sydney's house!

Robert Small, a cryptozoologist in search of the local town ghost.

It would be rather easy to give him a story of how he entered the fog, considering he drives at night, goes drinking and searches for mythical monsters.

Isn't he from Dream Daddy? LOL I don't think that fits the horror genre (even though there was the unofficial story which got cut and had cultist horror). But a hot dad character is always welcomed and would be well received by the community! 🤣

I love everything about this. I'd never even considered Scream Queens but Chanel would be SO good and so much fun! The Red Devil would be a fun Killer too, very on par with the Ghostface Killer in branding and 'humor'. Those perks are also great too - awesome idea!

My dream survivor would never happen because it would be too OP. I don't like stories where the characters are hopeless and doomed for eternity, like the survivors in this game are. Rather, since we have a villain, the Entity, I'd want to introduce a counter to that. Like a Light that goes against the Darkness.

My character would have forced themselves into the Entities world in order to free the survivors and killers who have been tainted. While in the Entities realm, they will be weakened, but still strong, while out side of the realm, they would be on par with the Entity. Or maybe, they could be an agent for something more powerful. I haven't really dwelled on it too much.

Barring that, I love Claudette so I'm rather content, I just want more unique cosmetics and hair styles.

If I had to pick someone from some kind of media, I would throw money at Behaviour if they introduce Brenda Meeks:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s7zoX9MGMbk&ab_channel=thatsHOT123

Having a very powerful Survivor isn't totally impossible lore-wise, I mean they added Cheryl from Silent Hill and one of her abilities is linked to the Entity if I recall. I don't use her perks so I'm kind of rusty in remembering. Either way, Cheryl is powerful so an original character with some kind of supernatural influence would be really cool and has a lot of potential for lore and appearance! Cool idea!

I know what you mean. I can understand how catching up with someone and swapping stories and opinions could be seen as derailing a thread but at the same time I'm not currently aware of any way to have more direct discussions here. Maybe the mods could point us in a direction? Don't know.

Oh, nothing's going to make me stop playing DBD. When I first got the ban (which I won't go into too much detail as I know this is discouraged) I was a little upset because I felt that my intentions hadn't been taken into consideration - in short, I used the "F" slur but in a way that was actually quoting a comedy sketch by Scott Thompson, a gay performer that I find very funny. The sketch was about examining the word one letter at a time and finally concluding that one specific letter is responsible for making the word offensive, so by dropping that letter all gay people could now joyfully celebrate having apparently defeated the slur. I found it ridiculous to the point of being hilarious. In explaining this, I quoted the specific word which now had one less letter, and by doing so it appeared that I was trying to use the full slur AND evade the censor filter. That wasn't my intention but it looked as if it might have been, and as the mod politely explained to me that context didn't make a difference, I still used 95 percent of a slur that shouldn't ever be used here. I got that, and I consider it a lesson learned. Scott Thompson is a legitimately very funny guy, and his work on the show in question (The Kids in the Hall) is among the best, and I was trying to impart that - but didn't go about doing it in the correct manner.

Anyway while my initial reaction was one of "wow, they really don't seem to like me over there", I eventually understood their position and accepted the punishment without taking it personally. Since I was still playing and loving the game, and since I'd lost out on the chance to talk about so much (the entire 5th anniversary!) I knew that I wanted to come back and catch up with some of my friends here. There's always a lot to talk about, though I do generally try to avoid the "killer / survivor bad" stuff because it's dull and repetitive to me. There's so much more to talk about.

Like the Fortune Teller outfit! I have to admit, as a straight male, I find Meg's midriff to be absolutely perfect, and she's got the greatest dimples of Venus ever, and both are prominently on display in that outfit. But it's not just that, the pieces work so well with so many other variants. And while I do understand that her longer hair would be nice as a more neutral red, the sheer cherry richness of it makes it one of my most used of her hairstyles. I mean she's got it all - braids, ponytails, caps, deep red hair, copper orange hair, cornrows, she rocks it all! Flower in the Dark? If I recall correctly that's actually the exact outfit I was referring to when I said that there's one I'm really waiting for for Kate. I saw a picture and fell in love immediately, she's adorable in that outfit and it does look like it's got great mix and match possibilities. I keep watching to see it show up. I must have just missed it before getting the game.

Nea's cool, she's got a good theme and character. And I really do hope that maybe something can eventually be done to make you love Kate again. Felix is handsome as hell and I like a few of his perks. During the 5th anniversary I brought almost all my survivors and killers to at least level 20 so none of them need a WHOLE lot of work to start getting some of my preferred perks. He's down my list a bit but I'll be working on him soon. There are only a few characters I really don't care much to build up anytime soon. I'm also stuck being unable to prestige because I still have cakes.

Hey, speaking of which, I'd forgotten that you suggested we team up. Sure, anytime! Look for miketheratguy, same as I am here. That's what I'm known as everywhere. You may find my very old 360 profile, you can obviously ignore that. I'm playing this on the PC.

I'm not really sure of a way to directly communicate with someone on this forum other than by doing so in a discussion like this or by posting on each other's wall and then just replying to that same comment and making a thread that way. Let me know if you'd like to do that as it's the only way I can think of to not hijack someone's topic!

I can see what you mean about seeing both sides to your original issue. The intent to upset anyone wasn't there and it sounds like you were discussing something comical and perhaps even interesting (in the way that any ridiculous joke-theory is) but that the mere presence of the offensive word was the problem. And that it seemed like you were trying to circumvent the chat filter which I know is something that the mods look for around here. Either way it sounds like a case of no harm, no foul, and the fact that the ban was temporary seems to me like they were understanding of the situation but had to act within the set rules of moderation.

I'm sure a lot of us are glad to have you back! 😊

That's so funny that the outfit I suggested was the one you like. It really is one of the best outfits in the entire game because of how normal and adorable it is. A loose and low ponytail, a red sweater with a little locket necklace, a backpack, the entire upper portion of the outfit is so nicely colored and designed. It really does just scream 'college girl' / 'girl-next-door'. I'm not a huge fan of the legs namely because of the shoe choice with it but I'm such a nit picker when it comes to this kind of thing. The smallest details make or break outfits for me to a point of it being kind of obnoxious and I recognize that. Haha.

I really wish that the devs would add a preview option where you can pair unpurchased pieces together to see a whole outfit because I think that Meg has some fantastic choices that I'd love to see together. But I've not wanted to buy them just to possibly hate the outfit combo. What is your default or go-to outfit combination for her?

Having all of the Survivors to 20 is a good accomplishment! You're halfway there! The last 10 levels always feels like such a grind when it's for a character who you don't love and just want to get the teachables for. I have all of the Survivors to rank 40 except for Tapp and Ash (who I won't buy and whose perks I don't want) and Jane (whose single perk I wanted I got from the 4 perk market, I'm forgetting what they call it). Everyone else is up there. Kate is P3 and has every perk T3'd and I'm working on getting Nea to that point. She's P3 and about 3/4 done with perks. Then it's Felix's turn - he's P3 and just waiting to be cranked up to level 50 and perked out. I too wish that Kate could catch my favor again but I just don't see it happening without another rework which isn't going to happen.

Until then my fingers are crossed for a new Survivor to catch my interest. As for playing together, yeah! If I remember right I did search for you before and the only thing I found was your old Playstation account. I think we were having trouble figuring out how to add someone cross-platform if memory serves me correctly. I'm on Playstation until they one day add the ability to shift your account to another platform.

  • Yes and it is hell to play against. I love a god-tier Nurse who knows how to mindgame her blinks, who knows how to apply map pressure, and who knows how to time her hits so that you feel like there's nowhere to run, nowhere to vault, nowhere to hide. Someone who is highly skilled at playing Nurse is unstoppable even without add-ons. She's insanely S-tier in the right hands and I applaud those who can pull it off because it is tough.

  • The main reason (as everyone else has stated) is player popularity. They design around the characters who get played the most and who generate the most sales. That being said another thing to consider is that some characters have themes which are easier to design around than others.

Let's look at Feng. Feng's entire backstory is 'gamer girl'. There are cutesy outfits for her, there are 'gamer' outfits for her, and there is at least one outfit that embraces her ethnicity. When it comes to a variety of outfit designs that is far more of a blank slate than someone like Jeff. Jeff's entire backstory is 'biker dude with artistic side'. So, okay, they can do some biker outfits. Which they have. He likes metal so they've done some metal/rock inspired outfits. Really all that's left for Jeff is something to show his artsy side. Sure they could put Jeff in some shorts and flip flops and give him a tank top but... Why would they? That's not really on brand for Jeff and you have to assume that the people who play him and spent the money on his metal face paint outfit and tons of leather aren't going to suddenly want to buy him in khaki shorts and a Venice Beach tourist tank.

Basement Trapper + very altruistic survivors

How dare you? I'm triggered. 🤣

@redsopine00 I have never shown Trapper the proper love and played him enough to do this, no, but I'm a Survivor main and boy-oh-boy... Yes. I love going against Trapper because of his mindgames and I applaud a well placed trap even as I am sent to my doom on a hook. I once saw a Trapper place all of his traps at the exit gates and my teammates were so cocky from how well we'd played the rest of the round that all three just raced right into them like a bunch of lemmings. I was crouched behind a wall watching and laughing/weeping. 😅

Gen speeds per se haven´t changed. They were 80 seconds for a single survivor 3 years ago and they are 80 seconds now. Toolboxes are more of a endgame thing. Survivors can significantly increase their repair speed with the last gen, by using toolboxes. Since they have less charges but a higher speed bonus.

Prove Thyself was buffed. Not nerfed. It now compensates the malus of multiple survivors on the same gen.

Killers shouldn´t be forced to take 3 or 4 gen slowdown perks just to stand a chance.

I was fairly certain that gen speeds used to be more Survivor-sided back when I started. I could be mistaken, it happens, but I think it used to be slightly shorter. I know for a fact that great skill checks used to bump 5% and now are at 2% or less.

Toolbox strategy has changed, yes, but objectively they have been nerfed. A gray toolbox used to last an entire generator. Yellow and green could last for more than one. Throw in add-ons and put three people with toolboxes on a generator and it was done in the blink of an eye. If three people found each other and found multiple gens before you caught up to them it was game over.

When was Prove Thyself buffed? I'm not discrediting you or saying that you're wrong - only that I was not aware! Last I knew they had nerfed it but I've not checked on Prove Thyself in a bit. I'd love a link/quote/explanation so I don't make the same mistake again! 😊

I completely agree about perks, I'd love to see this game in a place where Survivors didn't have to bring x perks and Killers didn't have to bring x perks. As it stands there is a hard and fast meta build or two which are kind of required to have the easiest/most efficient games. Sadly, that's just how it is for both sides right now. If gen speeds are where the trouble is lying for you then run the speed perks and keep developing your strategies until you can substitute one or two for something else.

Hang in there and good luck!

  • Yes and no! Will I tunnel someone out of the game for tea bagging me? No. Will I give a tea bagger the hatch later? Also no.

And if I hook someone who has been bad mannered during the end game you'd better believe they are not getting off of that hook. It's the same kind of decency that I show Killers as a Survivor. Be kind, play fairly/cleanly, and I'll be pretty chill about everything!

  • They probably didn't take the video (that's a threat that gets thrown around a lot it seems) and even if they did this doesn't sound like enough of an offense to get you banned. I'm speculating here as I have no say in the matter but I've seen videos that other people have submitted of far, far worse which didn't get people banned so I'd say you're in the clear!

  • As others have said the answer lies in a few different things! The first being to use slowdown perks. The second being to not stay in a chase for so long unless you're certain you're going to get a hit/down in. Gen speeds are slower than they used to be. Tool boxes have been nerfed into oblivion - a purple tier toolbox with top grade add-ons doesn't even last for a single gen. Prove Thyself has been nerfed. Great skill checks have been nerfed into insignificance.

That's not to say that these changes didn't need to happen (god, old toolboxes were so broken). But the point is that the devs have already nerfed gen progress as far as they feasibly can and have given Killers a variety of perks that they can run. Grind for the perks that fit your playstyle and apply them to your favorite Killer(s) and you'll do just fine. 😊

Yea. Last year, they promised that they will no longer have events for holidays except for the Anniversary and Halloween, in order to focus their resources on the two and make them better than ever. That promise fell through, as you can see, with the Anniversary. They really didn’t do much other than reskinned cosmetics and blood points. No new temporary game mechanics or anything to spice up the game. They were hoping that the Resident Evil content would be enough for us.

But balloons and confetti on hooks, generators, tool boxes, and med kits!... /s

Halloween should be their biggest event of the year for obvious reasons but I'll admit I'm a little cynical too when it comes to events in this game. The past few have been such a letdown or an outright disaster (looking at you, gnome chompski). It would be fantastic to get a new array of cosmetics for both sides and to see some unusual gameplay elements for both sides.

A new map would be fantastic. Double bloodpoints is a must. And I'll admit I do love the reskins of items but that shouldn't be the most exciting thing about the event.

  • It only appears for short trial periods here and there, unfortunately. For as long as I've played (several years now) the game has always primarily run off of rank. For Killers and Survivors alike you can easily end up in red ranks in the month timespan regardless of skill or game knowledge and then you're unfortunately stuck there permanently without taking a long break. On the 13th you'll depip 1-4 ranks at most and then in a week of solid playing you're right back into the red ranks.

I don't say this to discourage you or turn you against the game, only to warn you that this is likely how it's going to stay so that you can be prepared for that and find ways to still enjoy the game! My advice is to blow off the red rank rounds. If I'm paired with people who are far beyond my skill and are demolishing me in the round and I find myself getting frustrated I'll get up and make a cup of tea or check my phone for a bit and let them just be on their way.

No point in getting frustrated over something that isn't your fault or within your control! Hang in there and happy gaming! 😊

  • In concept? Yes.

In practice? Ehh... I'd say no. It could be completely fine with some very simple changes like a totem counter (like others have mentioned).

I also feel like if there were a Survivor totem that gave all Survivors an extra free health state or somehow hindered Killers as steeply as an insta-down does Survivors that the old chant of "Get gud, do bones" would be silenced.

I appreciate that. I made a couple of unrelated comments that were meant to be completely innocuous but came across more poorly without the proper context. The mod I spoke to about it was polite enough to hear me out and get what I actually meant, but I also understood why my comments came across as offensive. It's cool, I agreed that it was ultimately on me to be more careful about how I phrase things. :)

Oh wow, I was SOOOOOOOOOOO upset about them changing Meg's hair! I have a special place for ginger gals because there are so few of them in this world, and they're so unfairly mocked for such beautiful uniqueness, and the color fits Meg's personality so well in my opinion, that I was honestly kind of shocked when the pre-release image made her look blond. I love blond hair, and dark hair, and basically any hair a woman may have, but Meg was a TOTAL redhead and it looked like they were taking away one of the distinguishing features that, to me at least, made her what she is. On a more specific level I was also kind of distraught that my favorite cosmetic in the entire game - Meg's "fortune teller" outfit, in which her hair is a blazing, deep red, was going to be totally different. I won't lie, as silly as it is to be this protective of a video game character I was nonetheless very relieved when it turned out that they kept her original hair color intact. I do think that one or two of the "triple braid" hairs are a little messed up, with the middle braid looking too poofy and messy, but beyond that I'm pretty happy. They also dirtied her midriff a bit in some of her outfits (like my aforementioned favorite one), which bugs me a little, but she's still the Meg I love. Same hair color, same expression, just like you said. I'm glad that she didn't get ruined.

I've totally thrown myself into Kate. I've spent probably close to $100 on cosmetics for these two ladies alone and I still don't even have all the ones that I want. As a straight man I find them both beautiful but I also love their determined personalities and unique sense of character. I'm just drawn to both of them. I tend to play with one or two characters in this game for a long while, trying out their perks and working them up to the point that they can share theirs and get my favorites from others, and then I move on to others. There aren't really any survivors that I DON'T like but after getting to Kate I quickly realized that she was my other favorite alongside Meg. I keep returning to these two time and time again. This last month I've been working on Jane, and because of the latest news I've fast-tracked Steve and Nancy, but I have the feeling that Meg and Kate will always be my special two. I want so much for a certain Kate cosmetic or two that I've seen in the past to finally become available, I don't know why they haven't shown up in the store yet.

Like Meg, I think that Nea gets a bad rap. Meg, Nea and Claudette seem to be the characters that a lot of people unfairly hate for some reason. I love Nea's cat-themed outfits (and was so happy to see Meg get a cat shirt this month, I grabbed it immediately) and her new blond hair. I think it fits her well even if the crazier hair suits her personality more. I like Nea's perks. I know people hate Urban Evasion users but I don't care, it's fun lol. Like with you I'm glad to hear that you're getting to enjoy new characters but I'm sad that Kate changed so much for you. Like you said, beauty is subjective, so I suppose I consider myself lucky that I never saw the huge worsening of Kate that many others did (probably BECAUSE I didn't main her and get super familiar with her beforehand). I still think she's ravishing, and don't find the negatively received changes to her to be as noticeable or dramatic as some other players do, but I totally understand the feeling. I mean again, I went nuts about something as simple as Meg's hair color. So while I definitely love Kate, yes, I definitely have sympathy for those who feel that they've lost her in a way.

I don't want to derail this post with too much off topic back-and-forth - this forum really needs a chat or private message option!

But I'm glad that your post was just a matter of context and that your ban was lifted. And that you're still playing DbD! The offer to team up still stands if you ever find a way to play with a PS user!

Red hair on just about anyone is my weakness ( I just posted about Nurse being the 'hottest' Killer in a thread recently because of her red haired opera outfit, actually) so I totally understood your frustration about Meg's cosmetics. Thankfully they did her justice and left her hair color alone. The fortune teller outfit, huh? Well it's as bright as ever! I have always wished they'd tone that one down myself and make it a more natural red because it's one of the only longer hair options in the game. But I can see the cherry/fire red appeal and why people like it.

Ugh, I don't even want to talk about how much money I've spent on Kate. I keep hoping that they are going to rework their rework due to the demand for it but I know that's wishful thinking and that Kate just is the way she is now. Which makes me feel like I've wasted all of that money. What's unfortunate is that I still love Kate's backstory/personality the best so... It is what it is! If you ever get the option to buy Flower in the Dark I highly recommend that outfit as the head and torso (a thick ponytail and a red sweater with a backpack) really work with a lot of her cosmetics. I think Rift content usually comes to the store 6ish months after being in the Rift so it should be up for grabs any day now.

I'm working on Felix right now too, he's P3 and I'm trying to get a handful of my favorite perks on him. I'll probably alternate between Felix and Nea (Nea the most since she has some edgelord emo fashion that speaks to my long-lost, past high school self 😅) and will keep my fingers crossed that one of the new Survivors really speaks to me to become my true main. Or that Kate returns to a closer image of her original self.

Thank you! That's really nice of you to say. I was on a bit of an unintended break because of a few comments that I should have thought a little more about making, lol. I honestly figured that no one would care of even notice that I was gone but several people have welcomed me back and I really appreciate it. It's nice to know that I said anything worth remembering. :)

In the past month or so I've also become super addicted to playing Kate. Her cosmetics are just so fantastic. Meg may always be my ginger babygirl but Kate is amazing. Have you come to feel better about her redesign? I'm used to it now, I still think that she looks great. I hope that she wasn't destroyed for you.

You're welcome! I'm sorry to hear that that happened but am glad that it was a temporary issue and that it's in the past. It'd have been a shame to lose a positive and refreshing member from this community!

What do you think of Meg's redesign? How do you feel about her hair - I remember you were concerned about it losing its redness? It still looks pretty red for the most part in my opinion! And they kept her determined facial expression. I think Meg is one of the ones who fared better in the redesigns.

Oh gosh... Kate... I'm so glad that you have warmed up to Kate and are appreciating her. She's got an amazing backstory and some very nice outfits (especially from former Rifts). I'll be honest though I'm pretty heartbroken about her redesign. In fact I had a whole post about people changing their mains due to being unhappy with the redesign and saw my opinion of Kate echoed pretty far and wide. Beauty is obviously very subjective and I'm genuinely happy for those who like Kate as much or more with her redesign, I'm just deeply unhappy with it.

I've been focusing on Nea now. I moved her from P0 to P3 and am now just grinding for perks. I've also been seriously considering being a Meg main!

I play very similar the way u do. Add me to play together sometime =D

    Steam code: 139525206

Unfortunately until they add the ability to port over paid cosmetics I'm trapped on Playstation! DbD is literally the only game I play on my PS so I'd love to play on PC but I'm too unwilling to lose all of my paid cosmetics. 😭

  • If the game were better optimized I'd be open to reworking the DC penalty and perhaps making it more punishing. That being said I'd probably stop playing if I ever got a week ban because of the terrible performance of the game. I've never DC'd intentionally from a round. Ever. And I never will.

But I've absolutely crashed or disconnected from a round more than 3 times in a week and would be devastated to be punished for it.

  • I think adding new hex perks would be a great idea but I don't think that any existing perks should become hex perks for the reason that @danielmaster87 said! I think that Killers would be upset if their perks were destroyed early in the game. And as it stands the random placement of hexes is either 'hey, I spawned right by it!' or 'is it even on the map?'. 😅

  • Remove fog offerings from the bloodweb! Right, guys? 😅

There is no more fog. In a rare case of getting 3 friends to play with me we all offered up purple offerings to increase the fog. We went to Haddonfield. The fog was increased... In the basement. And by 'increased' I mean we could see it but it wasn't even 1/4th of what the original base level fog would be.

At this point it's just a huge waste of bloodpoints and makes the grind feel all the more annoying.

  • @FrenziedRoach said:

sample size too small. not enough games to get to where things getting hard

    Ergo, your data is incomplete.

I've addressed this in a few replies so I'm not going to go into a ton of detail but I do want to just point out that multiple times in my original post I clarify that this is not indicative of any community-wide experience, this is not an argument about one side being easier than the other, and that this is purely my experience that I was sharing!

My takeaway message is that we all have similar frustrations with the game, with optimization, with the other side, etc. I also say that we should all remember that our opponents are other players and treat everyone kindly and try to shake the negativity that this community is associated with and build a more welcoming and positive atmosphere. I don't need any data to back up the point of my post since it was purely about being kind to each other! 😊

  • I'm primarily a solo Survivor. The only thing that Survivors can do that really dooms a match from the start in my opinion is to DC or afk. If someone DCs instantly because of the map or Killer or because they were thrown onto hook in thirty seconds then I'll try and pick up the slack and play 'more seriously'.

If I notice that my other two teammates are goofing off or are trying to get hooked then I'll just grind for as much BP as I can get and take my pitiful 8-10k BP and move on. Wasting too much time isn't worth it because it's not going to be enough for any significant or noteworthy bloodweb progression and the chances are I won't be able to complete whatever Rift challenge I'm working on either.

So I'll knock some totems, open some chests, try to have a good run, and then move on.

  • As a Survivor main and primarily a solo player I find Freddy to be really oppressive and before the updates to hits I really, really struggled with him at windows and palettes. Because of his small size but his equal reach nearly every single hit against a Freddy from my perspective was him slashing the air and me taking damage 1+ yards away.

Since his reworks I've noticed that a good Freddy can wipe the map in minutes. A new/unskilled Freddy is strong but can be countered and sometimes escaped against.

I don't play him but as someone who plays against him I wouldn't call him S rank unless he's in the hands of an absolute Freddy god. But that's true for every Killer - anyone who invests the time to be a pro with their Killer of choice (plus uses good add-ons) can make their Killer shine.

  • For the ladies I'm going to have to give it to...

Nurse with her opera/Valentine cosmetic. I cannot remember the name, I just remember her red hair and lipstick. My weakness!

Susie gets an honorable mention at second place. Cute outfit, pink hair, choker necklace, there's a lot of style choices I approve of.

For the gents Trickster is the most obvious choice given he's just a toned, shirtless guy with glowing eyes. To mix it up I'll say...

Trapper. Big. Buff. In the rework his broken mask shows a strong jawline and nice lips. Need I say more?

And in second place... You know what? Pinhead. Cenobites explore the most intense sensations that a human can withstand, both painful and pleasurable. The movies never really explored that for obvious reasons but... C'mon, leather daddy. 😉😂 ( I apologize to anyone who reads this )

Speaking of which has anyone seen The Game or Hawkins? I know that the latter will be gone soon and the former was rumored to have been deactivated a few weeks ago. I never see them anymore. It's almost exclusively Macmillan, Coldwind, and a huge uptick in Ormond and the Asylum / Chapel.

I haven't seen you around and just had to comment and say welcome back! Glad to see you on the forums! ☺️

I have not gotten to play on the map enough to have an opinion, really. I see it maybe once every other week and I almost always seem to go against the Twins which is just a curb stomping for Survivors. 😅 Or it's Blight and that hurts just as badly.

I'd love to go against a variety of Killers on the map and really get a feel for it... That said, it's definitely getting the old Freddy treatment. The last few times I've loaded in there the Killer has instantly DC'd which is a shame.

Yeah, I am only like rank 11 or 12 as a survivor. I cannot remember which. Quite frankly, even that is boosted. This game thinks VERY highly of me for some reason.

But yeah, I didn't think of hatch. I would be lying if I said I didn't roll my eyes a little when a survivor finds it first and teabags all over it. But nothing I would ever send a message over, if I was the type to send messages. I guess that is why I asked, because nothing a survivor does makes me angry except for flashlights, which I run our lord and savior lightborn to deal with that. So no excuses for me to get toxic. Lol.

Regardless of which side you play you can end up in the red ranks with your eyes closed, unfortunately. I've been a red rank Killer before and I promise you I am not that. And if I'm being extremely honest I'm not a red rank Survivor either.

I don't take the game overly seriously. I'll play extremely altruistically, I experiment constantly with weird or 'useless' perk builds. I wear some pretty obnoxiously bright cosmetics (though with the lack of fog these days outfits don't really matter). If a Killer is really struggling I'll help my team escape and then throw myself on hook. Or if my team is being bad mannered and bullying a Killer I'll throw myself on hook. I have more fun supporting my teammates and interacting with the Killer than I do 'trying hard' so... I'm decent as a Survivor. Good at times. But never great... And I honestly can't remember the last time I was above a purple rank. 😪 I live in the red ranks and just... Hate it. LOL

I don't think that there's really any reason to ever be toxic. Not for perks or being outplayed especially. And if someone is being rude in game I wish people would just write them off as immature/pathetic and move on. It makes me genuinely... Sad? Disappointed? Both? That I have a handful of friends who won't even try this game because they have heard so many bad things about the community.

It was a good read OP I'm glad you did it

I play 60/40 Killer/Survivor so I can agree with you opinion to a degree (I don't send toxic messages after the match is over and yes I do get some toxic messages...mostly about camping and tunneling with I try not to do not much from the killer side... oh and yes I do have Cross-play on... I play on Xbox)

And we need to have official definitions on Camping and Tunneling (cause I think that there's a Survivor definition and a Killer definition)

Also right now I'm a rank 19 Survivor and a rank 18 Killer (yes I know that ranks don't mean anything but that's what the game says... and yea I haven't played much but opened DBD at times to check the Shrine and debate if I really wanted to play.. check my builds and see what I could do to change that whole thing up) and I did make it to Rank 1 before the first MMR test... never want to do that again

Thank you for the read and comment!

Red ranks are sweaty no matter which side you're playing. I have two friends who just play until they get to the red ranks and then they stop playing until the reset - the frustrations of being casual gamers who often play weird builds or are just being silly and hanging out playing against extremely competitive meta builds is too frustrating for them. I'd recommend that if you ever find yourself feeling upset about red ranks! It's better to keep the love of the game and just take breaks here and there than burn out against people who are trying extremely hard. This goes for either side! 😊

Ver interesting post. Thanks for your effort.

I didn't! And I meant to tag you in a previous message where I addressed that, apologies!

I'm a R1 Survivor and I started at R17 Killer (since I haven't played since the most recent derank). I don't recall where my Killer rank is now, I'd have to check when I can next. I believe I went against Survivors R10-15 primarily though I saw some red ranks and some new players - we all know the old rank mix-up song and dance.

May i suggest playing more killer? Your experience will change drastically the higher you get.

There are a significant number of factors that could change my gaming experience! But for the sake of my curiosity I chose a number and stuck to it with no real intention of making a post about it if I'm being honest. But once I was done I found myself thinking about the results and decided a post with my takeaway was worth making if only to break up the usual tide of "Killers/Survivors are ez/toxic/trash/OP/etc".

No matter what my experience had been I'd still encourage everyone to remember that there are other players on the other side who are suffering frustrations and that we should all be kind to one another and try to grow and uplift our community. Naïve hopes for an online game? Probably. 😅 Still worth being positive about though!

    rank 1 killer/rank 3 survivor.

Every single match there's a toxic survivor.

About half the time there's a toxic killer.

It's only logical you run into more toxic survivors. Its mathematical, not opinion based

Definitely! That's why I specified two important things. The first being that this was not meant to be read as indicative of the gaming community/experience as a whole. This was my personal experience. The second being that I was genuinely surprised purely because of the number of Survivors. "I was definitely expecting to see a higher rate of 'toxicity' as a Killer purely because there are 4 candidates for showing bad manners per match."

As a Rank 1 Survivor and Survivor main I feel like I'm targeted by toxic Survivors in DC's and just sabotaging plays plenty. 🤣 Survivors can be toxic. Killers can be toxic. Neither are better or worse, more forgivable than the other, etc. Hopefully as a community we can all strive to lower it for the sake of this game and each other!

    Thanks for posting!

  • @ThiccBudhha said:

Really surprised the toxicity was roughly the same. I have only had like maybe 3 killers swat at me on hook once and that is it. Survivors are toxic even when I play nice and let them go. Literally never had a message from a killer and survivors have my page filled. So, yeah, wasn't expecting that part in the slightest.

What kind of messages were they? I obviously know all the generic stuff a survivor sends. What do killers do?

I'm a Rank 1 Survivor so the higher toxicity than what you experience could be based on that (without knowing your rank to compare to). I personally think that the red ranks bring out the worst in both sides of the game and that losing for some people in those ranks causes them to lash out. I've had moments where I've really outplayed the Killer and I just immediately know I'm going to get some hateful messages over it.

That being said it definitely comes in ebbs and flows. I've had a month where I've barely gotten any messages or seen anything I consider bad mannered. Then there are times where I experience it so constantly that I take a few days as a break to decompress from the toxicity. Right now I'm in such a break!

I'd imagine that the messages are the same! Accusations of hacking or just general anger after an escape. End game hatch escapes especially. I just delete the messages and move on - friendly and kind messages are the only ones I respond to or keep! 😊

So you played 40 rounds of killer, starting at what... R20? This reminds me of surv-mains who will tell you they play "both sides", but only play killer against potatoes at low ranks, claiming all killers are viable, no gen defense is needed (with NOED, lol) and killer is too easy. And ofc they never tunnel and camp. Thing is, most of them aren't even lying... they just don't know how bad the foundation of the game is against good survs.

Hi there! I started at a R17 Killer, yes, because I hadn't played this role since the most recent derank and then nudged down quite a bit with wins. I'd have to check where I ended up next time I'm able! That said I was matched sporadically with a variety of ranks (including red ranks), but most of them were 10-15 which is admittedly where my skill level realistically is as a Killer. I'm pretty bad at Killer!

This was not a post stating that I 'play both sides' or dismissing any Killer or Survivor experience, frustration, etc. I tried to make that abundantly clear about my skill level and experience to support the takeaway message at the end. Thank you for pointing out that I'd forgotten to mention my rank, that is definitely useful information to include!

    Happy gaming! 😊

While I appreciate a survivor main taking the time to see the other sides view. I have to point out something. The 40 matches and only 2 of them were 0k vs sweat lords. As you rank up, that percentage gets higher. Substantially.

Oh certainly, I absolutely acknowledge that if I ever invested the time/effort to reach red ranks as a Killer I'd experience a steep increase in match difficulty! It's the same for Survivor - red ranks equal sweaty, sweaty matches for either side. I definitely tried to relay in my original post that this was not meant to be a 'Killer is ez, here's proof' kind of post! 😊 Instead it was merely meant to compare experiences and support the conclusion I arrived at about the similarity in experiences and my hopes that we can all bond a bit as a community.

Thank you for reading and for your supportive comment!

Me three. I appreciate the thought, and I agree that we should think of ourselves as all being players before we think of ourselves as killer or survivor mains, but, if you haven't played killer in a while, you were probably matching with lower ranks than you should have been. Getting 3K or 4K almost every match would seem to support that.

I hope that my original post come across as an argument for dismissing Killer complaints or 'proving' anything about the difficulty level for playing Killer! I tried to be clear about that in my post, and clarified a bit in the responses tagged above this one. To be clear though I am terrible at Killer - like embarrassingly bad. For the wins that I had I absolutely had to work for them. I think that my advantage is that I have more map knowledge and know the tricks and mind games I play as a Survivor so I was able to apply that in reverse.

Also one person's experience is not indicative of a community or game-wide experience so I am cringing at the idea that this read as me trying to make objective statements or come forward with "tHiS iS pRoOf". I actually work in data analysis so that pains me on several levels. 😂 My apologies to anyone who took it that way and I hope this clears up the intention behind my original post!

My post was not intended to read as any kind of 'evidence' towards any argument of any kind. I was just sharing my experiences and takeaways and hoping it would be interesting at the least and maybe help remind people to be kind in the best case scenario.

I appreciate your response! Happy gaming!

When it comes to survivor balance I think the thing that really can mess you up is how reliant you are on your teammates (which to be fair, you are supposed to rely on your teammates when you play survivor. Survivor is a game of teamwork.) and this can actually cause problems for you and your team. I've seen games where one ######### up got all 4 survivors killed

Absolutely! Having just one teammate AFK or DC is pretty regularly a death sentence right at the start. Having one bad teammate makes the game really difficult. Having two or more makes it near impossible to escape. Four Survivors are meant to equate to a challenge for the Killer. When it's anything less than four people playing competently then it's game over. That's why solo Survivor is such a gamble! 😅

Yes, they did. His P3 was easily the best in the entire game, and now it is garbage. Quentin is not Quentin anymore.

And thank you so much for your kind words, my friend. Someone liking my posts is not something that I see every day. Sadly, when it comes to the game itself I believe my time is past. Not the happiest outcome for someone who has been surviving and killing in the Fog since 2018, but if DBD will never return to be the game I once loved then I have no reason to stay.

However, I can assure you that I will not leave the Forums, or the community.

You're so welcome! I have always appreciated how you seem to try to bridge the gap between Killers and Survivors and are a positive, helpful, and informative source here. I'm glad to know that you're going to stay aboard the forums and while I don't wish to derail this thread too much by asking about what is removing you from the game I will say that I hope that future changes will bring you back. We've both been around for about the same amount of time so we know this game has highs and lows!

    It will get better!

  • I needed a week off anyways, I guess! 😂

No but seriously this is one of my least favorite maps in the entire game as Killer or Survivor.

  • How often are you guys seeing Thompson House? I've seen that variant only three times since the update. I'm dying to play there and actually get to experience that map and explore the house more.

All I ever see are Rotten Fields, Fractured, and Rancid. Those three, forever on a loop.

  • Sadly the fog has been gone for awhile now. Even if all four Survivors throw in a purple-grade fog enhancer the fog is still only noticeable in the basements of Haddonfield, really. It's impossible to get the game to look like even the original base fog.

It's a shame too because stealth Killers are at the biggest disservice. I remember before when Ghostface would sneak up on me and get some really good hits in. I remember it being a lot more difficult to see Wraith when he was invisible. Even Michael could really have some great scare moments. That is gone now, especially on large maps like Autohaven or Yamaoka. I've quite literally seen Wraith's 'glimmer' invisible form weaving cars across the map because he has no fog to mask him.

I’m a product of the 80’s I’ve watched a lot of things change for the worse for a long time.

A realisation that you can’t stop things changing is part of growing up.

I have plenty of fond memories of favourite toys that are now lost forever. I cherish those memories but I don’t mourn the loss because well, it’s a toy.

Kate is still in the game and you can still play it. It’s not the end of the world.

If you feel it is then that’s bordering on an unhealthy level of obsession with a cartoon character.

I'm a product of the 90's so I can relate to some degree with that as well! It is sad to see things change or degrade in quality, but change is inevitable in all things. With DbD the old characters did need a graphics rework to be brought into the same quality of the newer characters. What people are upset about is that it was less of an upgrade and more of an entire rework into something different.

I've been reading people's posts and I don't think anyone here is saying it's the end of the world. What I said (as the OP) and other people are talking about are their frustrations with having spent money on something to then feel like these changes were so drastic that they are no longer getting what they paid for. And we are talking about who we are switching to to replace the mains that feel ruined to us.

I don't think anyone is 'obsessed' with their characters - this is a forum dedicated to this hobby and past time that people invest hundreds or thousands of hours into as well as money. I doubted anyone in this thread is having this conversation in person with strangers or rambling about this offline. This is just the place to vent these frustrations and to seek solidarity with people who also care about this game. Some attachment is to be expected! 😊

That's charitable. Looks more like evil stepmother to me. But lets say they changed her to gritty badass. That's a trait fitting several survivors (Bill, David, Nea, Yui), but not at all Kate. She was always, in backstory, lore, and appearance, a "hopeful songbird".

Whether we agree on the quality of the model and textures or not, that drastic change in personality makes Kate's rework a failure imo.

This is a fantastic point. It's not even just that I find her face really offputting to look at, it's that she doesn't look like Kate anymore. Kate is supposed to look softer and more conventionally beautiful. She's literally an international celebrity. Of all the characters to make look harder and gritty that is not the one.

Like you said those descriptions are charitable at best. I think 'rodent-like' and 'ugly' are more fitting, but beauty is subjective.

  • @GeneralV said:

Nope, though it would've been the best thing to do.

Quentin's rework completely removed his personality, everything that made him the best survivor. His old model may have been the target of many memes, but at least he had that sleep deprived look and Freddy's claw marks on his P3. An ANOES survivor who doesn't look deprived of sleep is, honestly, pathetic.

However, I am not playing DBD enough to get all the perks on someone else. So, every time I return to this game I will stick with not-Quentin.

Did they remove Freddy's claw marks on his P3? If so that is an absolute travesty. I think that they could have reworked Quentin and improved him but kept the sleepy look which as you said was his whole character, but now he just looks like a very average high schooler to me.

I'm saddened to hear that you're playing less DbD! You've been such a constant on these forums that I hope you're not leaving the community or game, I always enjoy your posts!
