At the very beginning of the game it CAN be simply because the game starts you all clumped up. In a real game, a team of survivors who plays correctly should be impossible to 4-slug.
The key thing is, a lot of things people complain about punish 'greedy' strats. All staying in one place to complete generators quick to negate things like thrilling tremors/pop, and to be able to have someone hop right back on any generator as the other person is chased? This is a greedy strat with great rewards. If all 4 survivors are spread out, the killer shouldn't be able to drop a second person before the first slug he left alone is already back up. If the killer got all 4 of you, I bet someone ran in to do some crazy save attempt, or people otherwise got greedy.
Most survivor "this isn't fun" complaints, are actually complaints against tactics which punish specific types of greed.
Great post!
It definitely discourages specific play styles which can be fun for both the Killer and the Survivor. That being said... It still will probably strike most people as boring because it eliminates one of the major thrills of the game play (unhooking). With crawl recovery and crawl speed being punishingly slow (I am not calling for a speed boost or anything, not trying to derail this thread) it also just takes a little altruism on the part of the Survivors to lead to a 4 slug even if they started on different generators.
Some of the only times I've actually seen 4 people slugged was when we would try to get people up from the ground, unknowing if the other Survivor had finished filling their meter or was running Unbreakable. You stand there having to mend someone for so long that the Killer can easily drop you too.
Like I said in my post I don't think that slugging is toxic. The Killer can choose to do it just like Survivors can choose to try to go help other people up and get downed for it. I just personally find it to make for a very boring game.

The matchmaking will never be fixed unless SWF is taken into account. If you're playing SWF, you should be playing against a killer whose level is 20% higher than yours, at least.
This game thrives on SWF. It would be suicide for the game to penalize people who want to play the game with friends. Gaming is a social interaction for - a lot - of people. If someone cannot play this game with friends or gets punished for doing so then they will leave and go to one of the countless other games that fosters friendship and interaction.
I have said several times on these forums that I am an admittedly mediocre player who lacks the time or interest in becoming extremely great. This game is purely for fun and almost exclusively for fun with my coworkers after a long day of work. Without the ability to play with my friends I would uninstall the game.
That means that me (and at least six other people that I know) would stop buying the Rift passes. Stop buying the DLC. Stop buying the cosmetics. Do you see the trend here? Stopping SFW would lead to a major loss of players and a major loss of income.
A few quick notes for your consideration about SWF - it does not always mean mics are being used. Secondly, - a lot - of the time when mics are being used Survivors are just bantering or having a good time (or even complimenting good Killer plays). I've played a lot of SWF with actual friends and with random teams as well and it is almost never the big bad team of tacticians that Killers fear. Obviously there are going to be really competitive teams who take the game ultra seriously but there are also those same Killers who have red meta perks and countless moris. There will always be people who want to be the best and who try very hard to master the game.
Lastly, and perhaps the most useful note for a killer about teams, SWF are almost always 100% more altruistic even if it means suicide. Use that to your advantage!
I'd personally rather get downed and laugh about it with my friend than leave him/her on a hook to die. :)
SWF is the lifeblood of this game. It is also as much of a game mechanic as the meta Killer perks or tactics are. I know it can be frustrating as the Killer but it is in the nature of the game for the Killer to be the loner hunting down the Survivors.

It has been said and agreed that slugging a survivor is a strategy. There's in NOTHING wrong with slugging a survivor since it applies pressure to the game and at some points, prolongs it. But is it unfair and toxic as some say to slug everyone before you begin hooking?
Survivor main here!
I wouldn't necessarily call that 'toxic'. Toxic is tea bagging, hook slashing, salty messages, etc. I think slugging all 4 survivors before hooking is more just... Boring. The game is designed to have 3 hooks per survivor, to have a lot of cat-and-mouse chasing, etc. I really enjoy getting a dangerous unhook or having to outsmart the Killer to save my teammates. For Survivors, where the game is just a rinse-and-repeat of "do 5 gens, try to find all 5 dull totems if possible to counter NOED", the only other game play variant is a fun chase and a heroic unhook.
When I've run into games where a Killer runs a slug build and none of us Survivors have Unbreakable and are unable to get each other up then in my opinion it just screams of someone who cannot get a 4k with 'normal' game mechanics.
But at the end of the day you should do what is fun for you! You'll probably invite a lot of salt doing a 4 slug game, but you're not doing anything wrong or abusive. And if you can get all people down in a record time with someone like Nurse or something then I guess the more power to you because that takes skill!
Hope the feedback was useful in some way! :)

The ranking system is supposed to go away at some point and be replaced with an mmr system. Kinda like Overwatch but your skill rating will be hidden. There's a thread on the forums somewhere. I believe it's under developer activities.
Thank you so much! That would actually be -amazing-! I'm a Survivor rank 2 who constantly says I don't deserve it. LOL I've just played enough games that the game shoved me into the red rank when I honestly perform more like a purple or even green some days. T.T
-
I struggled with this challenge too the first time I did it.
Any fall that makes you stumble counts. Most often the problem (in my case) was that it wasn't actually a chase. Try to go for it when the Killer is -right- on your tail and you will get it. Several times I jumped and the Killer opted to just abandon the chase and I didn't get the points.
Good luck! ^_^

I'm 3-17 in my last 20 matches (0-8 against Deathslinger in that span). Anybody ever go through a rough patch like that?
Survivor main here! And oh boy... Do I hit some rough patches. I've gone literal days of playing without getting a single escape. It can be super tough, especially if you're a casual player (like I am). Don't get discouraged - just hang in there and keep at it! You'll have an 'on' day soon enough. :) Also, just try to get the most bloodpoints. I've stopped thinking of 'escapes' as a win and started thinking of getting more bloodpoints than the killer as a win - and that happens pretty frequently!
As for Deathslinger I will be honest... I've yet found a really solid way to counter him. The general consensus on the forums is a mixture of 'git gud' and 'don't get harpooned' but that's obviously not genuinely helpful advice. So far my wins against him have been a mixture of stealth heavy rounds and just dropping that palette early!
It's a very different play style, especially coming off of the Doctor craze, but Deathslinger isn't a super fast killer like some. He's going to get you in a chase, yes, but his general map coverage is relatively low. Take it slow and quiet and sometimes you can get around him decently. In a chase just aim for the trees/palettes/windows as much as you can... Though I still get hooked like 9/10 of the time. I'm curious to know if people can increase their reel speed because I've seen HUGE distances reeled in within less than 2-2.5 seconds and my struggle meter wasn't even 1/4th the way. So I dunno!
Good luck out there!

Already explained that they practically admitted it in post chat while flaming. Keep up.
I know survivor mains are dense enough to need crutches in game, but I didn't realize y'all needed hand holding on the forums, too
This isn't helping stop toxicity. If you want to vent or complain about toxic Survivors - rightfully so! - then go ahead. But insulting the entire Survivor category of player will only breed contempt and encourage people to talk trash on each other in this game.
As far as crutches go... Hello BBQ, NOED, etc... Both sides use Skills/Perks, and both sides have some pretty powerful ones. For every Killer complaining about DS there is a Survivor complaining about NOED - that's the very nature of a game that isn't 100% based on player talent. Everyone will point fingers at the in-game Skills/Perks rather than their own ability.
Now that is not to say that you aren't good at the game, or that everyone who loses is bad, etc etc. I personally just made a post a few minutes ago about this very same issue, playing Killer lvl 17 and going against red rank Survivors.
The matchmaking needs some work. And as a whole, Killers AND Survivors need to be kinder to one another and remember that we are all just trying to play a game we love.
As a Survivor main who has literally never sent a troll message... I'm sorry you got some of the bad ones. Hang in there, we aren't all jerks. :)

Survivors like to win, and win the easiest way possible
If a killer is proving a challenge to them they want it nerfed
It's that simple
I am not trying to bait or start a flame war here between Survivors and Killers, but it is literally both sides. And as a long time player you see far, far more Killers complaining about Survivors than the other way around (on the forums).
Both sides feel a sense of imbalance, most likely due to matchmaking and vastly different skill levels among players being paired together.

I reckon it is probably an equalish amount of people on both sides being hypocrites, but because 70% of the posts on these forums come from killer mains/biased, they're usually the only ones you see complaining
This is the most likely answer to OP's question and goes very much with what I said in my post. It is both sides quite a bit. Also, the forums here are notorious for their toxicity and for being overwhelmingly Killer sided. Reddit is a breath of fresh air for being looking for discussion, positivity, and a pretty equal representation of Killer v Survivor.
That said, no matter the platform we should all do our best to consider both sides and be more positive towards one another. <3

It is still very early and I am admittedly not an amazingly talented player. I enjoy the game, I like to flatter myself and think that I am decent, but I have never and will never have the time or desire to be one of the pro level, god-tier Survivors that I've seen Killers talk about on the forums. I am a Survivor rank 2 if for no other reason than playing a lot of rounds + having some decent games here and there + how easy it is to rank up.
Having said all of that... I do not love going against the Deathslinger for one simple reason. He can move while he has harpooned you and is reeling you in. In my opinion both Survivor -and- Deathslinger should have to stand still if he has harpooned you and is reeling you in. Let me explain why I feel this way...
As of now he reminds me of the ranged attack of Huntress but the immobility of a Trapper's beartrap. I have yet to break free from a harpoon based on the 'struggle' feature - he literally always walks up to me and downs me before that meter is even remotely filled. On top of that I will swing myself around a corner or an object just for him to swing himself right around it too. The only effective unhooks I have gotten are when I dropped a palette just before I was harpooned.
I really liked the idea of Deathslinger bringing some spice and a new feature to chases but I don't love that that feature currently feels like it has no way to counter.
Now the general advice for countering him that I see offered on the forums is "don't get hit" which is the most low level bait I have seen on these forums in a good while. What Survivors are asking for his how to counter him once you are harpooned. Yes we can all weave and try to get around things, but without an audio cue as to when he is going to shoot his gun I often find myself weaving so much that I am wasting forward momentum and then get downed from a natural hit. He is faster than Survivors and he doesn't have to do all that bobbing back and forth. People say the chain 'breaks' when you swing it into something, but I have swing it literally through cars and fully around corners and watched the chain just remain intact while Deathslinger walks around things and downs me.
Then there are some maps that are very open or are filled with hallways. Indoor maps against Deathslinger have been comically bad for me. I think that without the ability to merely move around obstacles and even corners while reeling, Deathslinger would still be plenty challenging in that he is literally hitting you and immobilizing you from across a room / down a hall or street / through a window / etc.
Just my two cents!

The community has always had a lot of anger towards one another, and equal toxicity on both sides. Some of this is just the nature of online gaming while a lot of it probably has to do with the matchmaking system and balance.
Almost anyone who mains Killer is going to say that the Survivors are OP. Almost anyone who mains Survivor is going to say that the Killers are OP. When anyone sees their opponents winning consistently it is natural to feel resentment. And unfortunately a lot of people take every loss very personally. Lastly, any game that has Skills/Perks and is not 100% player talent based creates the environment for people to blame said Skills/Perks for their loss rather than themselves.
The truth lies somewhere in the middle. What people should remember is to be kind to one another, be kind to the Devs, show support for the game they love and suggest changes rather than lobby complaints. That's asking a lot (especially on the internet) I know, but we can all do our best. <3

First, great post. Very thoughtful even if I do not agree with every point.
In my opinion one of the major problems with the game and why it feels unbalanced is the ranking system. It is far too easy to progress in rank which is why you end up with a cluster of people in the red tiers who are all extremely angry at one another. Survivors feel that Killer perks are massively overpowered, that chases become impossible, that the game is Killer sided. Killers feel that Survivor perks are massively overpowered, that chases become impossible, that the game is Survivor sided.
Anyone who looks through the forums long enough will see every argument made by one side being parroted by the other. You are right, the game is not balanced - especially at high ranks.
I am a Survivor main who plays this game very casually and almost exclusively with two equally casual coworkers. We do not play every night and most nights only have a few hours tops to spend on the game. I like to flatter myself and think I am decent at the game but I know -for a fact- that I am not great. Yet I am a Survivor rank 2. And my god is the game just almost unplayable anymore. I try to learn from my mistakes, certainly, but I have no real intention of dedicating myself to becoming one of these untouchable, god-tier Survivors I see Killers complaining about so often.
So where is my place in the game? A decently skilled player who makes just about as many bad decisions as they do good, and who supports the game through Rift passes and cosmetic purchases because they genuinely love the game.
Honestly, green/purple tiered ranks are where I belong. I won some, I lost some. But it was fun for me to sometimes have some successes, and no doubt satisfying for the Killer to stomp me down with ease other times.
The game needs a rework on how it matches people or Ranks need to be much more difficult to achieve. I am not a game developer so I have little to offer other than my two cents and an upvote agreeing with the sentiment that the game doesn't feel as balanced as it could.
-
As a Survivor main, I agree with this completely. There is nothing else for the Killer to do at this point -but- try to down and hook Survivors. It would be very strange to just run away at that point and let Survivors unhook.
That being said... Staying by the last hooked person and outright face camping are very different. It does really suck to have not been downed or hooked once and then get NOED struck going to the door. I always appreciate a Killer who circles the hook. Sometimes it means they get a second hook by downing a Survivor who tries to save me, sometimes it means I get away. At least they have a chance of getting 2k if they aren't -right on- the hook.
No salt here, and no free unhooks expected. :) Just a personal observation.

Players don't have to play by the survivors rule book for killers. Survivors don't have a rule book of how they should play.
Game mechanics in general are not toxic. It's the person that interprets them as being toxic.
Correct, that is why I'm not talking about gen rushing, palette looping, slugging, specific perks, etc.
My message was about very specific actions like tea bagging, hook hitting, and after game messages. Things that killers and players both do with the intent of trolling/griefing/etc. My original message, and all following messages, have merely been about people showing the most basic levels of sportsmanship and remembering that this is a game that requires both Killers and Survivors.
Let's all be kind to one another and keep people playing the game. <3

I'm honestly on my last leg in this game. I find little enjoyment in either role. The player base is filled with the type of people who need a serious azz whooping from their parents and the developers are clueless on how to fix it all.
:( Most everyone I knew who played quit due to the community a long time ago. Guess my turn will be coming soon.
I am so sorry to hear that. Which system do you play on?
If you ever want to team up with a non-toxic, laid back Survivor I'd gladly play with you. I hope you do not let other people's rude behavior run you off of the game - I know it is hard, I've been there many times. But try to hang in there and stick with it if you love the game.

I have long been baffled by that very question. There is no more decency, no more sportsmanship, nor is there any interest in growing the game by treating player, especially new ones, with any level of dignity. I'm not talking about being sugar sweet and pampering, I'm just talking about treating the person as if they were in the same room and could pop you in the mouth if you got overly belligerent.
The only reason this game goes on is there is no real competition for it.
Here's to hoping that people talking about it will stop and think about whether or not they contribute to people leaving the game.
It is a very basic mindset to have. Be kind and considerate! If you're a Survivor and the game was extremely 'ez' then take the bloodpoints and walk out the door. That killer was either A) New to the game or that Killer and trying to learn how to play - B) Trying to farm a very specific Rift challenge and not actually trying - C) Just having an off day. That happens to the best of us.
And for the Killer it goes the same way. Take your hook or your win and don't camp, hook slash, tea bag, etc. Oh, and this is a big one! PLEASE do not tunnel! So many times a survivor takes me off the hook as I'm just sitting there cringing. Please don't punish the Survivor who had no choice in when they are getting unhooked.
As a Survivor main - the worst is when a Killer has their t3 purple meta perks and still as the audacity to be toxic.
As someone who just played Killer today and got some vile messages - Deathslinger is looking tasty. Hook reeling a tea bagger would be the ultimate therapy. <3 LOL

It's been that way for years, honestly as a PS4 player myself, it's only slowed down. Maybe I made a name for myself of not being respond-able because I will turn that conversation weird real quick, but the occasional baby surv that messages with friends only, I just ignore because there's no point and they wasted life points typing out a message I'll never bother with. I guess I could switch to friends only too, but that would be boring and sometimes a little salt sweetens my night
That is good that you can have a positive attitude about it and enjoy some hate comments! Hopefully that keeps you going and playing the game!
Trust me, I am under no illusion that my message will be ground breaking here or reach a widespread group of people - changing the tide of toxicity that has plagued the game for years. Lol! ^_^ I have just seen a lot more of it lately and thought I'd at least try to get even just a few people thinking about their tea bagging or their camping, their hook hitting or their after game messages. <3
