Mate considering it isn’t your first language you’re damn good at it. It’s not the easiest language (considering it just takes all the rules and throws them out the window); I know English people who speak it worse than you do. Amazing job. :)

Thank you! This made my entire week! <3

And yes it was very difficult to learn. The punctuation alone still catches me up when I try to write it!

    Must.....resist.......grammar......correction.

    Eh, damnit. Ok brain.

    So you were "technically" incorrect.

    • Miss: Use “Miss” when addressing young girls and women under 30 that are unmarried.
    • Ms.: Use “Ms.” when you are not sure of a woman’s marital status, if the woman is unmarried and over 30 or if she prefers being addressed with a marital-status neutral title.

I'm so sorry, I can't help it. It's not you, it's me and my brain, I've spent way too many years grading papers so these kinds of stupid rules are burned into my head.

But as Doddle28 said, your enthusiasm for the game is nice to see and I hope you keep that positive attitude.

Just kind of hard to really be enticed to play the stun simulator when there's better options for strong killers without that level of muscle memory practice.

(Freddy tips Fedora in the corner)

Thank you! I actually do appreciate this! I feel like I have a pretty good handle on English and I speak it it in my day-to-day but I still struggle with some of the technicalities of writing it. It does not bother me at all when people correct me! :D

    Thanks for your positive response!

I am sure the ones that still play Nurse appreciate the praise, thank you. What servers have do you play on?

I wonder if I played against you before, as I almost exclusively play Nurse when I do play killer.

You're very welcome! Thank you for playing her!

I play on the PS4 - I do not know how to check which server. But if you played against me you certainly hooked me! 🤣

Killer main here, the way I see it:

Solo survivor with bad teammates = Hell

Solo survivor with moderately skilled teammates = could go one way or another

Solo survivor with good teammates = depending on the Killer, possibility of going pretty well

SWF with mixed skilled players = could really go any way depending on how seriously they are taking it

SWF hardcore tryharding with communication and full meta builds = easy mode

Thank you for addressing the fact that different scenarios apply to Survivors! Just like certain Killers are 'ez' compared to others it is a huge disservice to either side of the game to not acknowledge that some people are simply good because they invest their time and efforts in to learning how to be.

This is coming from a Survivor main who admits all day long that I am decent at the game, mediocre most days, passable at best. ^_^

"I actually felt really bad that two skilled players were dealt a bad hand and had absolutely no chance of escaping."

Sure they do. At that point, you - as the killer - have control over whether they have a chance at escaping or not. In instances like this, I just treat them like I would want to be treated if I spawned into an impromptu 2v1. I just make a conscious choice not to kill them. I still pursue them like normal. I still hook them both twice. I still kick their gens. I just don't shrug my shoulders and sweat on them anyway. If you are chill with people, you can engage in fun chases and wrack up points that save everyone's game from being a depip or meager BP. There's no reason this scenario should require developer intervention, if people just treated eachother better.

While I do not agree with the idea that there does not need to be developer involvement, I had to upvote and also tell you that I super appreciate the sentiment of people treating each other better! ^_^ I talk about that constantly in my posts and on random threads - I wish more people acted and thought this way!

If that were the case then you'd be right. As it stands though I do think that there should be some balancing so that neither Killer nor Survivor are rewarded/punished for a DC.

  • I have been saying for awhile that there needs to be a Victorian DLC!

New map? Big haunted Victorian style mansion with secret passages and such.

New Killer? A dapper gentleman / Jack the Ripper influence / Killer maid.

New Survivor? Dapper gentleman / Proper lady.

I would throw my money at it so fast! 🤣

  • I've seen Wraith quite a bit today - it's so refreshing! After the over saturation of Doctor and then Deathslinger I was getting thirsty for some variety! 🤣

  • @gantes said:

To be honest, I see A LOT more of killer players acting in a way that suggests they'd rather face 4 bots than actual people playing as survivor, especially here.

It's bound to happen sometimes in an asymetrical game. This game is inherently frustrating at times, but that's kind of inevitable. But when it comes down to it no one ACTUALLY thinks this way, it's just things that are said in the heat of the moment.

I completely agree with this. The ratio of Killers complaining about every aspect of Survivors is staggering - though the forum has always been heavily populated by Killers. Reddit is a lot more equal and also about 1/4th as full of toxicity and grief threads.

What it comes down to is frustration like you said - especially in a game that is not based 100% on player ability. The existence of built-in perks and skills will always fuel the arguments about one side being favored by devs/overpowered/unfair/etc.

  • @Raven014 said:

Yeah... like 3 dcs should open hatch!

That would be busted. Sorry, but no. If survivors decide to DC, that's on them. They screw their team over by doing so, and know the consequences of their actions.

As stated previously in the thread I as well as other people already discussed the limitations that would need to exist for this feature to work - things like time of DC mattering, gens already done being taken into account, etc. So the first line (which I understand was pointless sarcasm and not constructive) have already been addressed.

And perhaps! But there are also people who DC because of connection issues. But the reason for the DC doesn't matter, I don't think one person's actions or motivations should tilt the game or inconvenience anyone. This is a game with 5 players - all of them should have an equal chance to play and have fun. ^_^

Which is why this thread was a discussion about ways to better balance a DC.

  • @BigBubs said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1175832#Comment_1175832

Well , too bad for the rest of the survivors then. They have to try and play handicapped or just give and and die/dc.

And I didn't even talk about how swf can abuse this mechanic. So yeah...this idea isn't practical.

Except that the entire point of this thread was to open up discussion with the community about ways to balance the game better. Your idea and attitude of 'too bad for survivors' is hardly constructive. Just as I'm sure you would dislike if anyone was like 'too bad for Killers'.

Rather than punish either side or have either side disadvantaged I prefer to be positive and to foster conversations that are about equality and keeping this game alive and thriving - not having a poor attitude that tilts the game to the favor of either side. Thank you for weighing in though! <3

The Nurse and Wraith is one of the best ships. She gives him her actual heart in their shared cosmetic so he can beat people to death with it. How romantic!

For survs tho, I can see Kate and Jeff being a thing as they're both into music but my own personal favorite ship is Jeff and David cause they're both total opposites. David being a loud brawler and Jeff being the quiet and stoic type. (although Jeff is loud af when injured lol)

Dwight and Claud sounds like it could happen, the frail nerd and the quiet botonist.

I dunno why but I see Jane already having someone to return to so she fights for her life to return to them

Feng and Jake sounds cute as well

Kate and Jeff would be cute - both musicians, total contrast in musical type though and in appearance. He's big and gruff and she's small and pretty. I dig it!

I also get the idea that Jane would have someone at home that she's holding out for.

  • @TheRockstarKnight said:

I like Dwight x Kate; but I'm not sure if I like it more than Dwight x David and Kate x Feng.

Off hand I don't really ship anyone. If I see some cute shipping fanart, I'll be like, "Hey, that's cute!" and then I just move on.

The only ships I really think about are Killer ones, like Sally x Phillip and Julie x Frank.

And I just like to think that whenever Phillip or Frank get bullied by Survivors they tell Sally and Julie respectively, who promptly go on a Mori rampage against the offenders as revenge.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1173769#Comment_1173769

Okay, but imagine this from the playable Survivors' perspective. This isn't new to them.

According to what we've learned from the Archives most people just give up and let themselves go to the Void, or get bashed to death by their fellows as they go mad from the constant repetition. This happens to an endless amount of people, taken from an endless amount of worlds. A parade of faces that start scared and horrified before going dim with despair and fading away completely.

The Survivors that we play as are the special few.

The lucky/cursed ones that keep going where so many others falter and give way. Not just every once in a while, but constantly, for years, perhaps centuries marching endlessly back into the face of death and horror to say, "I'm not done with you yet; hurt me again! Hit me with everything you got."

In the face of infinite horror and unending torment they keep going; even knowing that their chances of any true release are slim to nonexistent.

What keeps them going? What fuels their hope? Their will to survive in the face of unending misery?

I say romance is as likely a thing as anything else.

You don't have to believe it or like it, but you have to admit it's certainly a possibility that they keep going because of a romantic or sexual interest in each other.

Unfulfilled promises on inviting lips. Shared desires subjugated by an endless routine of death and misery. The hope that maybe, just maybe, a day will come where they'll be free to share their burdens with the beautiful soul they've met in this endless hell. The dream that they might learn what thoughts would go on behind those pretty eyes, if only they could see something besides eternal damnation.

    Amazing post! <3

Those are some good ships - I think in my mind David wouldn't really be matched with anyone while I hardcore ship Feng x Yui. I get big lesbian energy from Feng and I recently saw fan art of Feng x Yui and it was adorable. I've personally never thought of Kate as a lesbian or bi - but it's not like we get much personality or hints to their sexuality from watching them repair gens. 🤣

  • @Rattman said:

    Noone. It's freakin dumb.

Survivors hardly know each other. Not to mention, they trying to survive, not to ######### each other, unlike horror movie teens from 90s.

Like, seriously. Imagine you barely escaped psycho with chainsaw and arrived to campfire. Your hands are shaking, blood pulses inside your head, but you still alive. The only thing you want - or, better say, capable of - just sit and watch campfire. The same campfire, which you hate the most, as it's a symbolic reminder that you can't escape for real. You know exactly, that this campfire is fake, just like all your hopes, since you tried to burn your hand with it.

But, still, you can't stop watching it. You aren't bold enough to look away. If you look away, you might catch eyecontact with someone, who wasn't as lucky as you and couldn't escape chainsaw psycho. You can't help but wonder, is it your fault. Maybe you were able to save them?

You trying your best to help others. Not because you like them, or they like you. Simply because you want to remember that there is something human left in you. Because it's right thing to do, even if you never see them in the fog again. Like it usually happens.

But last time... You couldn't help. And this thought haunts you. Thought, that partially because of you someone was chainsawed in half.

Actually, the reason that horror movies so often feature characters (even total strangers) hooking up is because of the adrenaline they experience during times of terror. Many of the same chemicals released during fright are released during arousal - another reason why horror movies are so often a date night feature. Humans also naturally feel safer and comforted when together in groups.

In times of extreme horror people often seek comfort and companionship in one another. For example there are countless stories of people pairing up during times of war and other real life horror.

So if this were a serious conversation then it would actually be very feasible that people would be getting together. Also, there is no lore that says that Survivors are transfixed by the fire or don't feel safe and comfortable in that one spot. In all likelihood your theory that they would not know each other or feel romantic/sexual things for one another has been proven false by the entire evolution and history of humankind.

All of that being said... This is a silly forum post about shipping fan favorites. 🤣 Dwight x Kate foreverrr! <3

  • @BigBubs said:

I don't see how it's fair to the killer. He is not the one making them dc, so why should he get punished?

But the Survivors didn't make that person DC either and as it stands they do get punished.

"As a Killer you get a gift of points when someone abandons the game as well as the advantage of having one less person on gens/unhooking Survivors/leading you on chases, etc.

As a Survivor? You get a gift of points (which are significantly less than what you get from a hook 2 struggle that lasts awhile) and... The disadvantage of having one less person on gens/unhooking Survivors/leading the Killer on chases. The game becomes so much more difficult."

  • @Spectre13 said:

"I actually felt really bad that two skilled players were dealt a bad hand and had absolutely no chance of escaping."

So you were upset by the fact 2/4 survivors were worthless yet you didn't show compassion or sportsmanship to let 1 or both of the "good" survivors you "had fun" with survive? Sounds pretty 2-faced to me.

As for your post I would say not complete a gen that would be too OP but maybe give the survivors a limited increase to speeds of healing or repairing for a short duration. Or maybe be awarded ALOT more than just the dogshit 600 bp.

Where did I say that I didn't let them escape? :) Let's skip the baiting and assumptions and keep this on topic and friendly, thanks! <3

I think a speed boost would be a bit too powerful because it would mean that three people could essentially gen rush, whereas one instant complete would merely compensate for not having the DCer there to help out at all throughout the game. But as many people have suggested I think there should be pretty strict rules about when the DC buff takes place to avoid people abusing it.

  • @GoodBoyKaru said:

Okay can we just appreciate for a second how wholesome this thread is compared to the usual? I love it.

Okay on topic now, I'd like to see something else implemented but I don't know what would work. Like mentioned before it'd either be very abusable or just like the old 3 man 4 gen games nobody liked. Personally if bhvr added in the husk option they were going for - they don't do anything but will struggle on hook and let survivors get healing points or rescue points whilst the killer gets hook and sacrifice points. Also shouldn't count towards hatch spawning cause otherwise killers could abuse that too.

Also bloodpoints in survival, please. We need more points here, bhvr, I beg.

I make a pretty big effort to stress the importance of positivity and to respond in kind ways to people! ^_^ It helps the threads stay somewhat wholesome.

I don't know what would be a good answer either but I definitely think there needs to be something because as it stands right now it's a huge disadvantage for one side and a reward for the other.

As of today, I wish you had to bring in a key and it couldn't be found via in game.

I hate that I can be randomly shocked by a 3 man escape because they found a key in a chest... Like if you bring one in, I can at least pay around it and be aware of it... But 1/5 of my games today involved a 3 man escape via hatch with a key (1 was only a 2 man).

Like I am seriously debating on using my stock pile of mori's at this point. Which is stupid because I also find mori's broken. But this is kinda BS

I think your suggestion is great! The chests should give med kits and toolboxes and flashlights only - things that enrich the gameplay but not dramatically alter it. I completely agree! In fact, I am going to modify my original post to say that keys should not exist in the game as they are basically just moris for Survivors.

I have literally never used a key and I do not see them used much (if at all) so I forget that they exist. Thank you for sharing!

  • @Mazoobi said:

I just wished ultra rare addons/items/offerings didn't exist because it makes the game harder to balance... thats my opinion tho

Thank you so much for sharing your opinion! More game balance and no highly powered items/offerings/etc would make the game a lot more balanced, I agree.

  • @NursesBootie said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1171972#Comment_1171972

I think survivors should just get more points. Thats the easiest solution honestly.

I suppose that would work if the point allocation was really generous.

When playing Survivor an immediate DC from a teammate almost always means that the round is lost. That means lower blood points because there is less being done and the match is significantly shorter. If that 500 point was several thousand then maybe it wouldn't feel so discouraging.

  • Such a fun topic - thanks for posting! <3

I agree that the game could use some more flavor to bring back to life! And while that will mean something different to everyone what I would personally enjoy seeing is...

    • New Maps: I understand that this would require a lot of work from the devs! But I would personally love to see a wider range of truly unique maps. A coastal map or an amusement park on a pier would be fantastic. The inside of an old Victorian mansion. A clocktower that was very narrow but very tall. Not only would the aesthetic and sense of exploration feel great but I would also like to see maps that demand a change up in play style, I.E. the idea of a narrow map with a lot of floors.
    • New Cosmetics/Customization: God yes. LOL Especially as rewards, much like they are doing with the Rift. Give me hair, give me faces, give me clothes. <3
    • Killer Objectives: Now this will probably be an unpopular opinion buuuut... Survivors have a lot of objectives going on in their game. They have to complete gens, they can search toolboxes, they should try and find all of the dull totems to counter NOED, all the while being chased by a Killer or trying to save fellow Survivors. The game for Killers is solely find and hook. I think it would be interesting if there was a BALANCED mechanic that added some variance to the Killer. Maybe if they did something, such as search for 3 specific items (much like finding dull totems as a Survivor) and they destroyed them then it caused something challenging to happen for the Survivor. As a Survivor main I know I would LOVE this too, so long as it was actually a challenge and was balanced. I can't stress BALANCE enough. Haha

I love your aura showing candle idea, OP! I agree that having a wider range of items that served some varied and unique purposes would be pretty neat.

  • @NursesBootie said:

It would give 4man swf effectively three gens to complete with a click on a button. Killer got a 3gen? Just one dc, ez win.

Not that good of an idea in my opinion.

And I totally respect that! :) I was just speculating on ways to better balance the game.

What do you think would be a more fair solution? Or do you think that it is currently balanced?

In my experience as Killer it's far less fun for me to see three (or less) Survivors trying to complete 5 generators. If a Survivor DC's because they are mad they are on the hook that's different, but at the start of a match it definitely makes me feel kind of bad for the Survivors.

And as a Survivor I know when there is a DC or problem loading in right at the start I think it is hard not to resign that the match just got handed to the Killer. The game is, after all, designed to be a team of 4.

  • @[Deleted User] said:

Could be ab usable. Even with the penalty (say there's one generator left) and the killer has a survivor or two in the dying state, if someone disconnects, both players could potentially stand up because of the DC, auto completing the generator.

Hm... That is a good point! Along with some sort of generator limit (for example, not triggering if there are 2 or less generators remaining) it would definitely need to not trigger Survivor perks. A DC giving a gen AND upping a Survivor from a slugged state would be a huge hindrance to the Killer and extremely unfair.

That said, I personally find the current game rules to be extremely unfair to the Survivors. What would be a better solution (if you think one is needed)? :)

  • @Accullla said:

I feel the sentiment, but picture this: 4 survivors alive, 1 on death hook gets downed and DC's. Automatic game over. It's not as simple as you'd think

That is a good point! Perhaps it would need some sort of stipulation then - such as it only being applicable in the first 30 seconds of a game. Or perhaps not triggering if there are 2 or less generators left on the map. I would definitely not want it to be something that was a disadvantage for the Killer - that is why I made sure to add that I do not want either side to be punished for a DC. ^_^

Do you think that there is a more balanced suggestion?

  • @Nurgling7 said:

All this would do would be to weaponize DCs.

Survivors already do so to abuse the hatch.

In order for that to happen the Survivor would have to be willing to have a zero point match -and- risk a ban. All for the sake of one generator being completed in a game they would have no benefit from. I do not personally think many people would be willing to risk that for the sake of helping random people in an online game.

And I think it would be far more balanced than expecting 3 Survivors to suddenly take on the workload of a game designed for teams of 4.

But I'm curious to hear if you have any other ideas, or if you think it is already balanced! And if so, why! :)

  • Congratulations! That is really impressive! 🤩

I’ve heard of the legend, that booping the snoot of a pig could give you a free pass in dire situations but I’ve never needed or had the opportunity to try, till tonight.

I was playing with a friend and we had an early DC and the next guy did a first hook suicide, so things were bad. We managed 3 gens despite this (because you know) and my friend was downed downstairs, on the gameroom map. He was set up for pallet slam so I went for it but the Pig just dropped down into stealth and not pick up animation so... I panicked and revealed myself. She attacked me but I didn’t run but tempted to boop her snoot. When she realized she sat down and I booped it. Then I picked up my friend and had to tell him how to boop and once he did I told him to ‘slowly’ back off and then we both ran.

We did 2 gens without her then met back up at the gate where I boop her a goodbye and pointed at my Blendette in training friend hiding in the corner. After I left he told me he boop it and she let him go too.

I normally dislike these kind of interactions between survivor and killer, because I tend to take a more role play mindset to gaming, but this pig thing, has made my night. I heard about this months ago and figured it was a dead meme by now.

Welp saved my life tonight. Any1 else wanna share a story, feel free~

Booping the Snoot has actually worked for me in maybe 3 games - not always against pig! It does not happen often but it is super memorable when it does!

A perfect example was when my friends and I went against Legion in Blackwater Swamp. This Killer was incredible - I'm talking about map presence like I've never seen. I felt like he was everywhere at once, nobody could get any gens done, he was always just there cutting us to bits. With two friends dead and another off mending I hopped onto a gen and was really close to done when Legion appeared and slashed me. I did not run and got back on the gen for the remaining second I had, finished it, then turned around and gave the Legion a boop. Confused, he stood there for a moment before running away.

He let us escape which was a super generous move as this person would have easily had a 4k. It turned out he was a Rank 1 Killer with ultra perks against Survivors of ranks 17-19. LOL! We ended up messaging each other and he thanked me for being amusing, I thanked him for handing me a win, and since then we have played a few rounds together as Survivor. He's a pretty funny guy!

It just goes to show that sometimes having a sense of humor and not taking this game so seriously can lead to way more fun times for everyone playing! And if nothing more, a breath of fresh, non-toxic air in reminding people that there are good people on both sides. 😊

  • @Deadman316 said:

You should only do this when the killer hits you while hooked. Agree?

As a Survivor main (rank 2) I have to say that I disagree with this entirely. To be honest? I do not think there is ever a reason to tea bag.

This might sound played out to say but there is truth in this... Why stoop to their level? Toxicity breeds toxicity. When you do something like tea bag and poke at a Killer it only encourages them to continue taking out their frustration and anger on other Survivors. Do I get hit on the hook? Absolutely. But you know what? That just tells me that this Killer is a poor sport having a bad day at best, and at worst is just a gigantic d-bag.

I get a lot of satisfaction from being kind and above that kind of behavior, personally.

Killers and Survivors - we are all just players trying to enjoy the game we love. Be good to one another. <3

  • I am sorry to hear that you are feeling so bogged down by the toxicity and the high number of players that are poor sports. I hope that you are able to know that for every hateful Survivor you run against there are probably quite a few more who do not send messages or who genuinely throw you a mental prop when you've played a good game. Sending you positive vibes! 🤗

As a Survivor main I have had to turn off messages on my PS4 and friend invites as well. I have never sent a hateful message to someone (I rarely send messages, period). I have never DC'd. I have never tea bagged - in fact when other people tea bag I gesture 'come here' to try to just rush them out the door before the Killer can see. Yet I have gotten everything from entry level 'you suck' messages to 'f*ck you survivor c*nt I hope you f*cking die."

Both sides have some terrible people. But... Both sides have super great people as well. Hang in there and try to enjoy the game you love! <3

  • My goodness. Imagine misunderstanding my message so blatantly and ignoring every positive, supportive thing I said in this just to... Do what, exactly? Low brow bait a 'git gud' comment? This was hardly a productive post.

But since five people liked it let me explain something super elementary about my post for everyone. I was addressing how BOTH sides of this game complain about the other side's perks, calling them overpowered. "For every Killer complaining about DS there is a Survivor complaining about NOED - that's the very nature of a game that isn't 100% based on player talent. Everyone will point fingers at the in-game Skills/Perks rather than their own ability."

Have you been on the forums long? I ask because if you check Survivor threads BBQ is one of the more complained about perks. If you are as new as it seems, welcome! Be prepared to see the most run perks on both sides being complained about by Survivors and Killers alike! Nobody here quite enjoys any of the opposite side's perks. :)

"The matchmaking needs some work. And as a whole, Killers AND Survivors need to be kinder to one another and remember that we are all just trying to play a game we love." <- The key part of my post.

    Happy gaming. <3

  • @animalmak said:

I get bothered by it. As a low rank for both (16 Survivor, 19 Killer), I'm just frankly not very good, and it's mostly due to needing to up my looping game. If I'm playing survivor and go against someone who clearly knows what they're doing as killer, only to see they've got all these ultra rare level three perks and are like P3 or wtv, that's just really frustrating. Suddenly I'm depipping when against a true Rank 18 or wtv I would have at least safety pipped. Matchmaking can be wonky as it is. Deranking to steamroll low ranks is just... why...

I could not agree with you more. Survivors and Killers alike who derank just to stomp on new players is, in my opinion, the very definition of toxic. Especially because those are the people who will have the gall to tea bag or send salty messages.

Hang in there, animalmak! A new matchmaking system is in the works. In the meantime just keep plugging at it and don't get discouraged! You'll get the hang of it and really start to feel the change. And when it comes to pipping you'll start having the opposite problem!

I'm desperate to derank because I'm not nearly as good as my rank claims I am. 😂

I agree that they are faster and there is variance in terms of powers and such. But think about this. i'm saying that if a survivor literally does nothing but hold W. Doesn't try to loop. Doesn't try to use pallets, does nothing but hold w and walk in a straight line. In the time it takes to find the initial survivor. Get the 2 hits on them, grab them, hook them. 3 gens will pop before the next chase starts. The math adds up. This means that half the killers in this game literally can't do anything about this:

    Pig

    Ghostface

    Trapper

    Myers

    Doctor

    Leatherface

Clown (Otzdarva also tested this and the clowns bottles only save about 3-4 seconds in that "hold w" scenario because he gets slowed too)

Legion (can't down a survivor with their power)

    Plague (without corrupt)

    Demo

    Also Arguably

    Freddy (if traps arent set)

    Hag (If traps aren't set)

Wraith (only saves a few seconds from cloaking and requires addons)

Deathslinger (his slower movement means he takes longer to catch up, so the gun only saves a few extra seconds if you add up the reel-in animation)

This basically leaves the following killers to deal with this:

    Nurse

    Hillbilly

    Huntress

    Spirit

Now, after all of that factor in that survivors have windows, vaults, pallets, god loops, flashlights, sabotage, borrowed time, DS, deadhard,

What you described though is a very specific type of game though, with a chase taking 40 seconds and three gens popping. In fact, with the toolbox nerf I'm not even sure that a solo Survivor can do a gen that fast. I honestly haven't timed it since the changes.

But what I'd question is how often that -really- happens. Truly and honestly. Because I am a Survivor main and as it stands right now I see 4k about 3/4 the games that I play. And 3 gens in the first minute? Never. I see MAYBE two gens in the first minute, but that honestly happens pretty rarely. Usually it is just one and even that isn't happening every game for me.

Maybe I just have extremely bad luck in terms of Survivors on my team. But as a Rank 2 who often ends up with rank 1-8 Survivors what you are describing is that kind of good good that most Survivors are thirsty for these days. 🤣 Though I'll be honest... If I WERE seeing that happen I'd be very sympathetic to the Killer and bored with it.

No Killer wants to play a game where they lose within a few minutes. And no Survivor wants to play a game where they lose within a few minutes. And a debuff in speed? Or a SFW penalty? Not the answer to the current problems in the game.

As for the Killer list - the one thing you're forgetting about Legion (which is the Killer I play) is the Deep Wound status. Obviously as Legion you're supposed to inflict it and run to the next, etc etc. But! In your 'hold w' scenario Legion can Deep Wound and then the person bleeds out in... I think it is 10 seconds? So there is that.

And then for Dema - doesn't he have a lunge attack? To be honest as Survivor I'm lost in a monotonous sea of Doctor / Deathslinger / Myers. I've forgotten so many of the Killers. LOL

  • @SurvivorsAreRuined said:

Honestly if they make me move any slower as a survivor I think I’m uninstalling the game. I already feel like I run in place when I’m playing survivor. Like I’m running on a treadmill. A hamster in a wheel. It’s slow as sludge man. I see killers zipping around slugging people and one hitting people. I just feel like, you’re finding people, you’re downing people you’re having fun. Even if you don’t get all 4 why are you mad? People don’t want to die every game. Survivors love to actually survive. You know? Don’t feel all down and out because you got outran. Hell thats not happening in the majority of games I’m seeing floating solo between rank 7-8

I was just saying in another thread that as a Rank 2 Survivor who was placed in that rank by the ineffective ranking system, I do not even consider escaping a feasible option anymore. It would be no exaggeration to say that I sometimes go days without escaping - so much so that I now have programmed myself to think of 'winning' as just getting more bloodpoints than the Killer. Or getting the most bloodpoints out of the Survivors.

And while I readily admit that I'm mediocre at the game... I see 4k almost always. With SFW and with playing with randoms. A 3k feels novel at this point. My experience in the actual game is so VASTLY different than what I see people complaining about on the forums. Because I've kept a tally and of the last 17 games I've played (none of which were SWF) -13- of those were 4k. And of the whopping other 4k there was nothing short of a 2k.

I'm genuinely not salty about it though. It's just proof that I (and a lot of people) are being put into matches with far too much variance of skill. Add on someone like me trying to level a new Survivor and you stand no chance. My rank 13 Survivor with his 2 yellow perks stands no chance against the Rank 1 Killer running his purple/red tier meta build. 😂

A speed punishment of any kind will kill this game. Especially, I cannot stress this enough, especially if that punishment is for the sheer fact that people are in a lobby with their friends. Yes the game needs to be fun for Killers but not at the expense of Survivors. And vice versa! Everyone needs to be able to have fun, challenging, enjoyable games. There needs to be risk and reward for BOTH sides.

Thankfully, a punishment to SFW or speed penalty to Survivors will never happen. The devs are far too intelligent and aware of the fact that they would lose a majority of their player base and that no one would be buying their Rift passes, cosmetics, DLCs, etc.

  • @Dehitay said:

The game is actually easier at higher ranks for survivor if you know what you're doing. Your chances of getting matched with other intelligent survivors is far greater at red ranks. At lower ranks, that's where the killers are generally better than the survivors. Killer is easier to pick up than survivor, but the survivor skill cap is more powerful than the killer skill cap

Perhaps for skilled players, yes! That would make sense. But for people like me, who are decent but just aren't fantastic at the game, it is not a good system at all. And as I said in my OP it actually makes me feel badly for people I get matched with sometimes.

But the question I was posing was about the player ethics of deranking because I was curious as to whether people are upset by it or in favor of it.

Acceptable at this point now, not that it makes a difference though

At which point? And what doesn't make a difference?

40 seconds might be wrong, might be 30, but there is a video where otzdarva tested this out.

There is also going to be variance based on the Killer speed - all of which are faster than a Survivor (as they should be). But my point is that a SFW-specific speed penalty would not be a viable solution and would be incredibly unfair.

Also the moment that this game starts to punish people for wanting to play with their friends is the moment they lose a majority of their player base (and their income).

Boil Over doesn't actually increase wiggle speed or else it would be a meta perk. It makes the killer sway to the side a certain percentage more than usual which is what's essentially useless.

Oh, yes! You're right! Thank you for the correction! 😅 It has been awhile since I have looked at that perk.

I still do not think that converting DS into a true wiggle speed (as opposed to wiggle resistance, silly me) perk would be a viable solution.

If a killer starts a chase with a survivor and they literally just hold w for the 2 hits, it takes 40 seconss to down.

I'm sorry, I don't understand exactly what you mean.

Are you saying that if a Killer starts chasing a Survivor and they just run straight forward for 2 hits that the chase lasts for 40 seconds? Because the speed of a Killer vs the speed of a Survivor doesn't add up to that in my experience. Is there something mathematical that you used to get that very specific time?

Because then... Maybe? But as a Survivor main I can tell you that a lot of my chases that do not involve any action other than running do not last even half of that time. Killers catch up to you extremely quickly. Also, keep in mind that most Killers have another attack that they will use. Like Deathslinger and his harpoon.

But as I said in my post - a speed punishment to all SFW is too broad of a stroke and is not equivocal to skill. I SFW and can confidently and honestly say that I'm a very mediocre player. Which is why I pointed out that matchmaking is the issue here. Casual players, new players, mediocre players who don't have the time or desire to become pro at the game should be paired with like killers.

It's not fun for a skilled Killer who wants challenging matches to be paired against the likes of someone like me. Just like it is not fun for someone like me, who is not brand new, to go against a Killer who just bought the game today. Player skill discrepancy is far too common in this game. Hopefully the matchmaking system fixes that. Not a game wide penalty to specific players.

I am skeptical of the new system, because they have not really figured out yet themselves that are skilled survivors/killers and what are "wins" really. They will say that they think there is no clear win condition really and that they think killers getting 2 kills average in their games means things are okay- which is just.....wrong. That is the wrong way to think entirely.

So that has be skeptical that their new system will fix a whole lot. I mean BHVR logic is that if a SWF bullies the hell out of a killer and all escape, but then the killer destroys 4 solos by first gen, that means he is averaging 2 kills in his games and things are fine. Another example would be if a killer gets 3 kills because of end game altruism after being bullied ALL game but their mistakes right then got him some kills, and another game they bully the hell out of him but he gets one end game face camp kill- that means 2 kills average things are fine right?

It's such a joke I just laugh it off at this point.

I genuinely had not thought of a lot of that - you make some incredibly valid points.

I would hope that the matchmaking system will be able to account for the kind of match disparity that you are talking about though. If a Killer is getting zero kills some games and 4k on his other games then something is clearly 'off' with where he is being placed. I would hope that the system would look for a balance in a consistent number of kills in order to find a person's true rank, striving for 2-3k for their typical game. It should look for the average kills per game and not just an average of kills in general.

It sounds like you play Killer more, so let me give you the frustrating Survivor side of things. I'm a rank 2 Survivor who almost exclusively plays SWF. My friends range from rank 5-10.

I go most nights that I play without escaping a single round. This is so true to the point that I now no longer strive to escape, I just strive to get more points than the Killer. Or to be in the top 2 in terms of points for the Survivors. Most games that I play (even SFW) consist of getting maybe 3 gens done if we are SUPER on it, and then the rest of the time it is being hooked or slugged or mori'd. Now I'm not typically mad about it - if a Killer plays a good game then my friends and I all actually talk about their most pro moves. It's genuinely cool to see really good players who have mastered Killer, especially harder Killers like Nurse or Spirit.

But why am I playing those people? Those rank 1 Killers with every meta perk and at least 2-3 games with a mori per night. I do not belong in that tier. Most games I feel just like fodder and it isn't a matter of if I'll be killed it is just when. When the game gets to the point where Survivors literally don't even consider escaping a viable thing any longer and just shoot for points... Something is certainly off.

And hey, I'd love to win every now and then. I almost don't even remember what the exit gates looks like when it is opened. LOL 😂

Meanwhile, a survivor self cares themself, searches a chest, holds m1 a bit and then dies- but still pips. The whole system is messed up.

If you play killer you have matches where you get bullied and can't do anything, and as you get better as killer you have more and more matches where you bully the hell out of survivors and they are all dead by first gen because they can't do anything.

The entire matchmaking and ranking system needs to be torn down and re-built from the ground up properly.

Agreed! As a Killer I have literally never had a balanced game. But I've also never (even as a rank 20) had a match that didn't have red-purple Survivors. As a Survivor (if for no other reason than I main Survivor) I have had a few rounds that were evenly matched (2k / 2 escape kind of rounds) but that is not very common.

There are also games where I make just atrocious decisions when I am playing with my friends - so bad that we are all laughing so hard we cannot hear the game. And yet I STILL pip sometimes. Why? Pls no. And the worst part is the only way to derank is to throw the game which, imo, is just about as disgusting as just DCing or AFKing.

Here's to hoping the new system is great! <3

I get it. They make most of there money on SWFs but if that's the case make a ranked and a social playlist where if you play swf its social like you say for the social interaction, and make ranked solo queue only. If you think about it that would make things with dbd so much better. so killers that want to play 4stacks can go into social and killers that want ranked and go ranked everyone wins

I personally love this kind of idea. Different lobbies would be really enjoyable! I think that the the new matchmaking system will actually offset a lot of the problems that people are seeing but I think that different game modes would be really fun.

That being said... There are still SFW groups who would go into ranked because they want to be Rank 1 Survivors. Which is a valid strategy just like the Killer meta builds/tactics are. Unless you are suggesting that the 'ranked' game mode wouldn't allow for SWF in which case I think that it would again discourage a large demographic and would hurt the game community.

The real solution is what we are hopefully getting - a skill based matchmaking instead of one based on a game rank. I would expect that a lot of SWF groups are going to end up clumped in the mid-range games except for the really amazing ones who, let's face it, would be difficult Survivors with our without friends. And those talented Survivors will go against equally talented Killers who will have fun and challenging games.

It feels like I'm getting called out here... 😑🤔

Definitely didn't happen to me, shh! 🤫

Allergy season is wrecking havoc on my second hook survivability. I wish that this was just a joke! 😂

Being able to hold the button down would be a great game play improvement and still encourages the 'active' struggle that I think the devs are going for. But I doubt that a change like this will ever be very high priority when they are consistently putting out great new content and patches and such! <3 maybe one day!

  • Punishing SFW would kill this game. I will not clog your thread explaining why as I just explained this in another thread - but if you'd like a breakdown as to why a SFW punishment cannot and will not be implemented I will gladly do so.

As for the rest of your proposal, Killer speed is already so much higher than Survivors that in a basic foot chase the Survivor literally cannot escape. Without a window, palette, or some good ole Cold Winds corn you are almost guaranteed to be downed. The Survivors who know chase tactics to escape without any of those things are likely going to be high rank/high win characters and they will (hopefully) soon be paired with Killers of their skill level thanks to the new matchmaking system.

Also, it seems that SWF is the thing you're most unhappy about in your post. Using SWF in an algorithm that punishes players would be incredibly unfair because SWF does not always equate skillful players. My friends and I? Absolute fools. LOL. Sure we are decent on a good day but we play this game to unwind with one another after work, or because some of us cannot hang out locally due to location, etc etc. So we play this game and we have a good time and we make some really stupid plays sometimes. Like going for that unhook in that last few seconds because an unhook is better than letting them time out on hook 2. Pro move? Nope!

So I should be punished? I'm not very good at the game, don't handicap me further just because gaming is a social experience for me (as it is with a mass majority of other gamers).

What it sounds like you need (as well as every other Survivor complaining about really hard Killers / Killers complaining about really hard Survivors) is just a new matchmaking system. Which we are thankfully getting soon. In the meantime try to not be too discouraged, it can be frustrating for both sides to end up with unreasonable skill disparity.

Hang in there, and happy gaming! :)

Facts. I feel the anti tunnelling effect of the perk is nothing. DS is still OP, but its less frustrating than old DS, so its a step in the right direction. I would rework it quite simply. DS increases your wiggle speed, thats it. Done, simple as that

There is actually a perk that does increase your wiggle speed. It is a Kate Denson perk (Boil Over) and it is widely considered one of the most useless perks. I love Kate's abilities and even I do not use that one. Even when fully upgraded to a T3 purple you almost always end up on another hook. And that is on a regular down when the Killer has to actually look around for a hook. When you have a camp/tunnel Killer DS is literally the sole perk that lets you get away from him.

No matter how fast the struggle meter fills it will never be fast enough to stop a Killer from hooking you three meters from a hook.

For people who argue that you can offer up an offering to make the hooks further apart, the difference is literally a few meters. Last I checked I think that added three meters? It still helps far less than you would actually think. And again that does not matter when it comes to a tunneling Killer.

  • I would thoroughly welcome this! PC players can luckily just reroute the key to mousewheel scroll but console gamers are stuck mashing a button and being punished when it doesn't register or when you have to do something like, god forbid, cough or sneeze. 🤣
