  • Making it so second chance perks don't work with each other.

Adding characters from the modern age, like Springtrap or Slender. Ones more relevant to my generation. Myers and Freddy are great licenses, but don't have the same impact as those two did on my childhood.

Fixing console issues, because they gave an empty promise years ago for this.

Making looping not the end all, be all strategy. Maybe buffing stealth in a way that is fun for the killer.

Less monetization. Either make it free to play, or limit the amount of things that require auric cells. Speaking of this, every non-lisenced character should have iri shard prices on everything. Why does trapper have cosmetics that are not earnable through gameplay?! Most of billy's cosmetics should not be behind paywalls! If players had this, there would be more incentive to play and earn shards.

  • If they fixed half the dead zone problems with Nurse, she would be way better. Midwitch is the worst map for her for a reason. In two hallways she can't even blink properly, last I recall.

She will never be that popular on console, though. The mechanical precision is just not enough there.

Freddy has been one of my mains since his release.

He used to be DRAMATICALLY different to the Freddy you know now.

Considered weak by many, but in reality devastatingly strong in the hands of those who mastered him, he made repairs and escape WAY more impossible than the current Freddy ever could.

Firstly all survivors start awake and Freddy had to manually put survivors asleep. Dream Demon was a ranged power that could start the falling asleep process at range.

While survivors are awake Freddy was 100% invisible. Survivors do not hear the TR, they hear the lullaby. It also only had a range of 24m. Survivors could only know where Freddy was if they were attentive to moving grass or disturbed crows. However while they’re awake Freddy CANNOT hit them/hurt them.

This is why he was widely considered weak due to a misunderstanding of what Freddy’s true power actually is: Reconnaissance and INCREDIBLE game stall.

When Freddy used Dream Demon on an awake survivor it would take 7 seconds (at base) for a survivor to fully fall asleep. During this time they still can’t be hurt and they only intermittently see Freddy (similar to the current 16m to 32m range intermittent visibility). Freddy is meant to use this 7 second transition period to confuse and circle around a survivor to get into optimal position to hit them as soon as the 7 second transition ends. Or he just simply runs off to find other survivors to put to sleep.

Once survivors are asleep their aura is visible to Freddy 100% of the time, anytime they’re outside of his 24m terror radius. They also suffer a 50% action speed penalty at base. 50 PERCENT!!! With the right add ons and perk combos it was possible to make survivor action speeds take MORE THAN TWICE as long in the Dream World. This included gate opening too.

Freddy had no ways to help in a chase, other than drawing the game time out and getting survivors to eventually use up all the pallets. So no Snares. No dream pallets.

Survivors could wake up by finding awake teammates or failing skill checks. No alarm clocks.

The trick with old Freddy is to never let any survivor that wakes up to stay awake for long. You wanted survivors to keep wasting their own time by failing skill checks over and over and continually ruining their own repair progress.

If in the event of all gens still being repaired, good luck getting a gate open. Smart Freddy’s would ensure anyone awake was put to sleep again making sure he would ALWAYS know when someone was at a gate switch, so could run and shoo them off, and opening gates would take FOREVER, especially with Remember Me.

The information was why I loved old freddy. Pulling off a 4k against a coordinated team was always the dream!

I miss old remember me. 6 tokens for 5 seconds each... really encouraged you to get the most out of the perk instead of just tunneling for the sake of it.

Barbecue and Chili. Its the perfect example of a healthy perk.

It has easy counters for those that know them, but can still be strong... as well as giving more points. It really is the perfect perk. : )

Very unpopular opinion here. My favorite survivor perk will forever be Wake Up. It just came in clutch for me so many times.

    For killer it's Nurse's Calling.

I've been wanting to use Wake Up, but I don't have it at Tier 3 on my main survivor yet.

  • Favorite Perk for killer: Used to be discordance, but since no old perks can be used, Tinkerer.

The information and stealth it gives can make or break you in some instances.

I also like Devour because of the actual balance it has but because of the Undying/Ruin meta people love so much, totems get broken too quickly. : P

    Favorite Perk for survivor: Aftercare

The amount of information it can give the user is staggeringly useful. It just requires a high level of skill and changing how you play to get the most from it. Also helps your teammates under its effects.

I like Autodidact for a similar reason, it helps your team the longer you are in the game.

  • I'm not a survivor main, but my favorite build has to be this:

Aftercare - teamwide aura reading at the cost of placing yourself first. Also helps teammates know where you are when under its effects, leading to better solo cooperation.

Head On - A versatile perk that can be very useful at the right time.

Inner Strength - A healing perk that encourages totem destruction

Were gonna live forever - Encouragement for altruism that counters the downside of Aftercare.

  • How many health states you have healed total, I think. I don't have as many as my friends, but that is because I play killer more.

You stoppped playing because of a barelly noticable change to a perk?

That other person had no right to call you a clown, but you're not doing a very good job at defending against it

That is not barely noticeable. This is a symptom of a larger problem they will not adress. Why is discordance, an already situational perk, getting a nerf? Knowing which gen has 2 people on it allows me to plan. If it is on the opposite side of the map to me, it means I can strategize with those killers. The information is too important to add a range limit. Especially with how quickly gens get done in the current meta.

Those who try to use it again will get blindsided due to the lack of information. 32 m is not a lot.

That, and Pop is getting nerfed when it is one of the few perks that does adress the genrush issue they don't want to adress. That and banning discussion of console optimisation... that perk getting changed was the straw that broke the camel's back, not the only reason. The disrespect to the players, the absurd changes, the blatantly greedy store/rift... it all adds up. I try to explain this but nobody ultimately cares.

It is the fact they are changing something nobody complained about in the first place.

I don't know how people who actually use their product can look at the edge they claim and not laugh at it.

I give plenty of reasoning. It is not my fault if people ignore or choose not to read what I am saying.

  • Well, I can say there is a difference between solo survivors and SWF. It becomes pretty clear which is which. But yeah, the solo experience is horrible. Especially on Xbox where the framerate is not your friend.

a buggy mess you keep playing. maybe if they start hiring clowns, you should consider applying?

I actually stopped playing after I heard they were nerfing discordance. And I refused to buy anything from the shop with auric cells ever since the store existed. It's all such a rip off at this point. Anything I have is because I earned in game.

I actually would love to play the game more, but BHVR needs to get their act together. They cant keep swindling/misleading people like this for no consequences... there is always a breaking point. I hold them to their highest standard (The EGC), and will criticize any efforts that are scummy on their part.

And your point of being rude to me is...? What, that Im a fool for trying to help improve a game I like by giving feedback throughout the forums? Nurse is still buggy on many maps. They keep adding cooldown nerfs to killers that don't deserve them. They nerf perks that don't need them, like Pop. Their game hardly runs optimally on console, and they ban discussion on the topic because there were too many complaints about it... This company is not the same as it was when the game started. They are not a small company anymore, and nobody should be defending their practices.

The art team is amazing, they have outdone themselves with the designs they add, both to the maps (not sure about Yamaoka, Bedham, and the new Macmillain, but I love most of the others), and to the cosmetics. The lore team needs to have focus on what they are doing, because much of the new lore conflicts with the old. The coding team needs to get on their game, as there are so many bugs in the game they actively make jokes about them. 99 bugs in the game, 99 bug to go, pass it around, patch it around, 102 bugs in the game...

The last team... balance... lord oh lord I really want to see good things in them. They have done some good things in the past like EGC, but then they do stuff like Lunar Flashlight buffs and nerfing Pop without addressing the core issue behind them. Then they nerf discordance, which is already situational and easy to counter...

If you are going to call me a clown, maybe look in the mirror first. Nobody likes attitude like yours.

  • I think it is a massive amount of restrictions on creative freedom. I mean, there is no way any company who has such an excellent art team can be so... careless and ignorant with balance and all the monetization that has been added... it screams of upper management meddling, tbh.

  • Their edge is currently looking for more employees with no experience... yeah, what an edge... their only successful product is a buggy mess... what a technical edge...

Not only this, but they also ignore community feedback on a continual basis, which leads them to making stupid decisions.

  • I'm kinda surprised that Silent Hill didnt come with a foggy city, tbh...

  • They'll also give her a TR of 4 m when crouched. Just to rub it in.

I shoulda specified - Some people are tired of it, and are gonna whine if they see it anything. I won't admit that for a while, I was real tired of it too - but I can recognize why people love it. I think when people say Springtrap wouldn't fit is that he's designed really differently compared to everyone. For the most part, a lot of the killers are more "grounded". Compared to Michael Myers and Ghostface, a rotting corpse in a bunny animatronic is out there. Then again, god damn Pyramid Head is in this game, so I think any horror icon could get into this game.

That is kind of why the Springtrap hype even happened in the first place. PH opened the floodgates (more so than Bill did) and allowed for any concept to be added as a license. If they can get any killer from any franchise, why not this one?

I can see why people are worried, but honestly, with the way this game is being handled, BHVR is going to need the players.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/201554/why-not-make-it-so-wraith-cant-be-seen-while-cloaked-outside-of-a-certain-distance

Because Wraith can be tough enough to deal with already? :) He is the FASTEST of the Stealth Killers with his Add-On(s), and a Survivor's best defense is to spot him quick to get the maximum head start.

The issue is, that he can be seen cross map as long as survivors know what to look for. Crotus, Autohaven, and Coldwind are bad maps for this reason.

  • Part of the problem is if you do your job too well as killer, you still get punished. Down, hook, they get unhooked, down a separate person quickly (say, 30 seconds), then hook, find the original person, down them quickly, get hit by DS because it was 1 second on the timer...

That doesn't adress the people that try to use them offensively either. Locker DS is unwinnable.

Then there is the Unbreakable DS combo. The DS timer is 60 seconds, Unbreakable gets you up in less time than that. DS forces you to slug... with a counterslug perk.

That and four of them can exist at once. If you see one obsession, you have to treat them all the same. That kind of thinking happens with no other perk.

    See where the problem is?

I was never a huge fan of the series, but I'm in the same boat - I was 14 when the first game came out, and now I'm 20 myself. Sometimes a game just can't lose it's stereotypes, no matter how old it gets. Minecraft get's called a Kids game a lot too, despite being eleven years old. It's just how it works.

The community was... Eesh, pretty bad. Well, at least a vocal part of it was. Just... A lot of stuff. FNaF was huge and for a few years, the marker was oversaturated with fangames or just straight up clones - I think people might be tired of it.

Some might be, but I will admit I am looking forward to Security Breach when it is released. It looks great and seems like it will actually start moving the story along again...

The amount of survivors around red rank who do absolutely nothing is absolutely astounding. Like why do i have to do 4 of the 5 gens? Also another thing i got chewed out by a killer last night for escaping with a key after doing 3 out of 5 generators by myself while my team just altruism piled. I also found this key in a chest but i am in the wrong for escaping with it.

Part of the problem is the key/hatch system, but I would be frustrated too if the entire survivor team fumbles but one still escapes. Keep in mind that they can't really see who does how much on gens, so they don't really know if you earned that escape.

Unfortunately, it's kind of a catch 22, you make her easier to play on console and she becomes unbeatable on PC.

I think it's more or less that FNaF is seen as more of a "kids" game, despite being six years old now. Back in the day, it was known for having one of those communities, one where it just had to breach everything even if it wasn't remotely related. Kinda like Undertale - I feel like the communities kinda ruined a lot of peoples viewpoints on the game. Personally, I don't really care if Springtrap made it in - I'm not a huge fan of FNaF, but it's not like I would despise it. I would be more or less indifferent. From everything I've seen, Scott seems like a pretty chill dude though.

The problem is, that the people who played it have grown up. I was fifteen when FNaF 3 came out (my first FNaF game), and now here I am at 20. Plenty of people are like me in that regard. I think many who are like you describe may have grown up and out of their zealous nature, idk.

I was not a part of the FNaF community, but just a fan of the series. So I don't really know how they acted.

  • So you are bashing console players because they experience technical issues that BHVR never bothered to go over? That they actively censored in the forums because of the amount of requests for those problems to be dealt with?

That and mechanical differences which makes them less precise with killers like Nurse and Blight?

So you are going after the players for BHVRs negligence?

    How kind of you.

  • @Awakey said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1712058#Comment_1712058

I don't hate FnaF. I love that franchise.

I just don't want it in DbD. Mostly, I just have a feeling he wouldn't fit in at all, and so many would play him that he would get stale quick.

He is a rotting cyborg. Normally people would love the concept! The spirit, Plague, Oni, and Deathslinger are basically undead anyway...

And if he isn't as strong as Freddy or Spirit, the amount of players would drop off. It is more about the option to have him in the game.

  • As much as it would fit, Springtrap. The community is too hostile to him as a character and doesn't bother to see the possibilities... that and they complain that they would bring the wrong kind of people.

FNaF has been around longer than DBD, and is still going strong, hell, Security Breach was announced not too long ago as a PS5 flagship title... it should not be too hard to see that it is way more popular than DBD. But no, some people still hold out on bias because of the title alone.

That, and Scott is one of the most ethical indie devs out there...

Sorry for the rant, but it just makes me get mad when I reflect on how the concept was treated when Candyman, another franchise with less memorability to FNaF, is regarded with higher esteem. It just makes no sense to me, but maybe it is a generational thing.

  • @Seanzu said:

Far from needing to be buffed, killers are just too lazy to learn her, they see people say she's "hard to master" and then just don't even bother playing her.

I played Nurse before and after the rework. She is frustrating to play (at least on console) both ways. Nurse, like Blight, is one of those killers that is way better on one platform than another.

That, and she is bugged, with tons of dumb dead zone problems, and many of her addons are bad...

  • They have a habit of changing the basekit regardless of what people say. Look to Billy & Nurse for example.

  • P2 adam, or the other default Tapp (the brown jacket). Those are the darkest characters besides Claudette, and adam can be impossible to spot on certain maps in his P2 outfit (Yamaoka being a big one).

  • @ABannedCat said:

Tombstone addons are only really strong versus solo-queue groups. SWF shits on Myers.

Nerfing these addons would be just another slap in the face to solo survivors.

Not only this, but if they were to take a look at Myers, they would give him the Nurse treatment, which is something I really want them to avoid.

  • @ALostPuppy said:

You clearly don't play much Huntress because tombstone isn't even close in effectiveness to iri head and infantry belt. I'll only agree that tombstone piece needs to be nerfed or removed because that add-on is legitimately busted. You get no movement speed penalty and can insta kill up to 2 survivors in virtually no time at all if you combine in with J. Myers' memorial? Hell naw, this add-on seriously needs to be removed. The full Tombstone is fine though imo. Just take the insta Mori and move on, or let the man get the achievement. If your teammates fed him that's their fault, not the fault of the add-on. You are a team of 4 after all (emphasis on the word 'team'). Is it fun to go against? Not really. But you almost never see a tombstone Myers and frankly I'd rather be insta-killed by the big Chad himself than go against yet another Deathslinger or Freddy at this point.

Actually, you can mori 3 if you play your cards right. But the point still stands.

  • The fact that they prioritize things like this, which seems like yet another cash grab, instead of bug fixes and actually informed decisions. Why are they nerfing discordance of all perks?! For the same reason that they are re-adding certain infinites which they got praise for removing on Groaning Storehouse and Coal Tower...

Lets be fair, the killer addon is the new mechanic this event. Which honestly is fine. But they should have given an event unlockable that they gave away for free next year.

The killer addon is a seasonal addon, meaning after the event, you cant use it. Unlike the survivor addons.

I think OP intended a platform-specific kind of skin, not necessarily needing to buy it either.

Not sure how this would work out with Crossplay a thing, as it may fuel existing bias. However I'd love a set of Xbox flavored skins personally and think it a good idea we likely won't see.

Crossplay is a thing yet legacy (and deathgarden cosmetics) is PC only, and switch has their own exclusive. It just seems like a double standard to me.

  • Not only this, but if you crash during a game, you will get punished for it. It is extremely annoying since console optimization is garbage...

  • How many people know that nurse can be hard countered by flashlights? Exactly. Removing something so un-noticeable/useless would be fine imo.

I've seen plenty of similar posts (almost the exact same as mine actually) in general discussion and they have not been locked. What would make theirs okay but mine not so?

I think almost everyone believes that the bugs, poor optimization, and lack of quality of life options is a problem in some form or the other, whether they are a new player, vet, or retired player.

But again, I disagree. Just because the numbers have increased or may even be increasing, doesn't mean the game is necessarily in a good state or that people are happy with it. Popularity or even the number of people playing a game does not equate to current state of game health or how happy people are with the state of a game. The game could remain unpatched for two years, with nothing being fixed or breaking, and that player number will continue to either go up or down. Game could grow within that time or still shrink.

Left 4 Dead 2 hadn't had patches for years except small vulnerability and security fixes, and even before the free community update, it still managed to hold around 10~15k people on average every day. That game is over 10 years old, with nothing to even keep reeling people in to keep playing like DBD does with its battle pass and constant grind to 'progress' and, y'know, updates -- It's just that good of a game -- y'know, fun. Oh. And I can also rely on the sound not breaking half the time on when playing it.

Eventually DBDs numbers are going to come down. While that is always inevitable at some point for any game, it is going to happen much sooner rather than later if nothing changes. DBD has massive problems, and it has had them for years. DBD does not have to be some game that is just going to die out in a 'few years', though. Not be popular? Sure, but it doesn't have to die and peter out of existence. Left 4 Dead 2 is a testament to that.

Hell, even a very very old game like Phantasy Star Online (1) which lost all of its official support is still kept alive by its fans when Sega literally shut everything down. It doesn't get 30k+ players, but the game is not dead. I can go boot up my gamecube version of the game right now, hop on, and start playing with people with dozens in a lobby and a good list of party rooms to jump into.

Or, it could be like CubeWorld, which finally released a year ago, had over 35,000 people playing it, and now it has... um...

    -checks-

Nine people playing it right now at the time of posting.

    Nine.

Well, I guess nine is still infinitely better than Deathgarden's numbers. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I'm not going to pretend to be some super agent who knows all the answers and secrets to good game design, nor have I ever pertained to ever being as such even when I did still play this game -- I only offered my own opinions and suggestions. Nothing more.

...But I don't need to be a game design genius to know that game breaking bugs and poor optimization is bad for a game. That's about as basic as the culinary knowledge of "Burnt food = taste bad". It's just common sense.

When an actual horror a-sym comes around (...that does not needlessly shoot itself in the foot) and proves to be a viable alternative with having what DBD has -- just without all the "bullshit", then I do truly wonder how many people will stay, even after the whole "new shiny game" phase wears off. That will be the ultimate test to see how much people enjoy the game versus people who are only putting up with it because there is no other viable alternative.

Ironically, I think the healthiest thing DBD needs is another competitor. Another competitor would light the fire under BHVR's bottom to get them to actually fix their damn game. Just wish all the would-be competitors that keep coming around would quit destroying themselves before they've barely even got one foot out the door.

Optimization also gets locked as well, in particular, console optimization does.

That, and I really hope Monstrum 2 does well because of that. Nothing encourages healthy business practices like worthy competition.

I like using autodidact once in awhile. No one complains once I have stacks but people don't want me healing them before I have any lol. They want to be healed right away, nobody wants progress to go backwards.

Yeah... it doesn't help when the healing reduction actually lets the killer get to you when they are still injured too. That big penalty overshadows the benefits. If Autodidact skill checks were slightly more common, it would be a more balanced perk.

    Underrated Survivor Perks

-Visionary. Especially on indoor maps where gens are harder to find. You can also use it to keep the chase away from gens.

-Solidarity. Combine with We'll Make It, and you've got two people healed VERY fast after an unhook.

-Deja Vu. This perk can prevent a 3-gen as long as you keep the gens further apart.

    Overrated Survivor Perks

-Adrenaline. Does nothing for you until the end of the match. Really strong if you're on the hook or in chase with the killer, but otherwise not very useful. You can finish the last gen injured without worrying too much, though if the killer has NoED, it doesn't really matter.

    Underrated Killer Perks

-Mad Grit. Pretty useful against SWF's who like to sabo the hook.

-Hex: Third Seal. This one can be a PAIN for survivors because they have a hard time finding survivors who've been hooked. Less useful against SWF

-Blood Echo. The effects aren't too noticeable, but if you get into a chase quick enough with a survivor who's staying injured because of Dead Hard, it's pretty delicious.

    Overrated Killer Perks

-Sloppy Butcher. Countered hard by Inner Strength. Doesn't add that much time unless survivors are healing themselves.

I love Blood Echo on Demo. Cuts chases down a little, which is an edge he can really take advantage of sometimes.

  • Underrated: Autodidact & Aftercare. The amount of information and healing benefits are astounding... but they force you to do very specific things to earn those bonuses. This is how perks should work: High risk, high reward.

Overrated: Object, Infectious Fright. Object in a team is broken, but I haven't seen this perk in ages since stealth killers in general were buffed. Infectious does not always help in situations... since most of the time they are gone when I check.

  • It is more the fact you can have three of them at a time through a certain addon combo. If it was restricted to 1 or 2, people wouldn't care, but since you can have almost a full clip (as it were) of them, people will complain.

  • Being able to enjoy the match. If I feel it is too stressful or not fun in some other way, then it is a net loss, as I have effectively wasted my time.

  • @dspaceman20 said:

Can anyone explain how iron will is meta?

It is a consistently useful perk that will hide you when you are injured. This lack of audio can allow for you to trick the killer, as well as allow you to get away with hiding very close to the killer when injured.

Since Spirit is considered a top tier killer, and relies on audio, a lot of people run Iron Will to counter her, since you make less noise when injured... although many spirits run stridor to counter this/make it easier for themselves.

It also is the reason the bug where dying survivors can't be heard exists. They still haven't really fixed that either, but it has dropped off in recent history.

I see it in roughly half my games.

  • DS does not act like an anti tunnel perk. It has the foundation (being unhooked requirement), killers who know what they are doing can try to circumvent this. I say try, because locker ds still exists for some reason. There are still ways to abuse it because it is not a well balanced perk.

@arcnkd is correct about this. It is why a lot of survivors were worried about PH when his power was announced, because it was a circumvention to DS. A completely healthy addition, because perks should not be 100% reliable. Pop is not 100% reliable, yet it gets nerfed and DS does not. But dev bias is for another day.
