  • I'm sad that this topic is sort of forgotten now because everyone's focused on the forum shutdown. I really don't want the Tomes to go away. I understand that the devs might not want to have to fix the broken challenges, but really they could just keep the Tomes up in an "as is, use at your own risk" kind of thing where it's like an archive or legacy feature.

I need my completed challenges to remain, and I need my unfinished ones to remain attemptable. I just don't want the Tomes to go away. 😢

  • @RedCentipede said:

Ironic user activity on the forums only increased after it's getting shutdown. Where was everyone before the announcement?

Personally, i stopped posting here because I felt like I was wasting my energy shouting into a void. Especially as a console player.

I'm still sad to see the forums close, though.

  • Goodbye, @UndeddJester . I haven't been on the forums much lately and apparently I missed a bunch, as I popped back in and saw this. I'm sorry to see you go, but it's good you're looking after yourself: the reward for being a long-time constructive member should not be an uncertain future of walking on eggshells. I hope any other communities you participate in will reward you better for your contributions.

  • I love Nemesis on controller because I can strafe to get use out of his tentacle. I think it's the one ranged attack that is correctable and thus usable for me.

  • I just had a match with a Medic who went around showing the killers where everyone was so he could get a free escape. I only survived as long as I did because I was able to heal myself.

I can't say I want map-wide Bond in 2v8 when the larger number of survivors means sandbagging and griefing are more prevalent.

  • Some of the things that get downvoted are confusing or just weird. There are conversations I've watched where Person A and Person B were having a discussion, Person B believed something factually incorrect, and when Person B came back and was like, "You were right, my bad," that post got severely downvoted. Like what the hell. I'm not talking one random downvote, I'm talking multiple downvotes and no upvotes.

Watching things like that happen on the forums, I have no idea what downvotes mean to some people, because the standard definition of downvoting something you disagree with doesn't apply in a lot of cases. What is the point of the downvote button if the meaning of the downvote can't even be determined? Upvotes being a bit ambiguous at times is one thing because upvoting is positive. Ambiguous negative feedback is not okay: it discourages people from engaging at all.

I know people will be not happy with this idea, but as a console player who was plagued with not being able to rebind my layout for years I don't think its fair not to allow killers to rebind theirs to allow for better control. Because lets be real the whole oh its a console player because they dropped pallet instead of healing cause they can't change the layout thing was obnoxious.

The fact that certain techs rely on the killers not being able to decide prioritization is kind of terrible as nice as it is to get one of these techs. I just don't really think it adds value besides bullying newer players so yes this should be done for QoL purposes.

as a console player who was plagued with not being able to rebind my layout for years I don't think its fair not to allow killers to rebind theirs to allow for better control. Because lets be real the whole oh its a console player because they dropped pallet instead of healing cause they can't change the layout thing was obnoxious.

Was rebinding not a thing at first? I didn't start playing DbD until 2018, but first thing I did (as a console player, PS4 specifically) is rebind my keys to avoid dropping pallets when trying to heal. I have "Pick Up Item / Interactions" as R1 so I can still spin my camera while healing and repairing gens, and I have "Actions" as the square button, so I hit square to drop pallets or vault.

  • On the one hand, I'd love picking survivors up to be a different button from searching lockers. On the other hand, I'm in the habit of spamming the pickup button while walking over the survivor (a bad habit, probably, but the game's lack of responsiveness and the way survivors crawl to mess up my actions has beaten it into me), so making the pickup and drop action the same button increases the risk of dropping a survivor when I don't want to. BHVR just needs to split the button binding options so players can choose.

  • I suck with the knives. I suck with all ranged attacks when I play on console, except Nemmie's tentacle (and that's only because of the strafe). Ranged killers just feel like garbage on controller with the low framerate and framedrops and input lag (and no dead zone or response curve settings), survivors can react to me way quicker than I can react to them. I do like Trickster's design, though, and when I play him I play him as an M1 killer and enjoy twirling his bat. I love the bat twirl.

  • It's not just about brightness, it's also about lack of contrast. I've tried adjusting the gamma on some maps where I feel like I have zero visibility and it doesn't help because there's this grey filter over everything and there's no contrast. That's part of Autohaven's problem, everything is just green. I personally can see fine on Autohaven, but even after fiddling with the gamma my friend feels blind on the map, and if one survivor is having trouble seeing on the map then every survivor in the match is going to have a worse time for it. My friend has a lot of maps memorized, including Autohaven, but it's one thing to be able to blindly walk to every totem spot and another to navigate the environment in chase with poor visibility plus the low framerate plus frames dropping everywhere plus the controller input lag and everything else going on.

i only want another actor if they are willing do do ALL the voicelines, unlike the actors for rick and daryl

I do like the continued theme of the perks being fun but also acting based

My friend bought Daryl and never plays him because of how bad his voice sounds. Which is unfortunate, because I was kind of considering it. (God it's frustrating to spend money on a skin and then not enjoy using it. I know my friend regrets the purchase.) I usually avoid spending money in DbD, but now if there is anything I'm tempted to get I have to pay close attention to the voices, because I really don't consider Rick and Daryl playable in their current state. And I never see anyone else playing them in my lobbies, either.

    This was such a disaster.

Drop not working for a full hour, the chat being completely buried in '!drop" spam and other disruptive behaviour from people who were just there to get the drop, then the solution being presented near the end only for it to not work.

Definitely needs to be done better next time.

I'd prefer there not be a next time.

Even normal Twitch drops are annoying. This drop was available for only a very tiny window of time on a single day. People have jobs, people live in different time zones, this was not a consumer friendly promotion at all.

Absolutely, I am BEGGING them to make all the Twitch drop banners, charms, and badges available for everyone via codes or cheap store bundles. I genuinely have no reason to go on Twitch, I have no interest in watching streamers.

Yeah. And after watching and claiming, neither I nor my friend actually have the banners in DbD. So we opened up support tickets.

There's just no reason for this. If BHVR created an area in the in-game store to sell Twitch drop cosmetics for Iri Shards, it would benefit a lot of people. I've been doing the Twitch drops since DbD first started doing Twitch drops, and it's not fun or fulfilling. It doesn't make the cosmetics any better for it. Plus, this is the second time Twitch drops have gone wrong for me in as many weeks. The sole way of releasing things shouldn't be so prone to technical difficulties. Today's was super-time-limited, extreme FOMO, and it was broken for the entire stream, they had to give it out during the after-stream.

  • I wonder if this will affect Switch when it gets the update. I change my name to match my character/lodaout, and if I'm in a random mood that sometimes means changing my name between each trial. If I have to restart the whole game, that'd put a real damper on things.

then contact the support, i have been given codes every time i havent gotten a mail (since they know my mail is subbed to them with my bhvr account)

Not everyone has the same experience as you:

Same issue. Contacted support. Their help was basically this (this is in the correct order btw):

    1. Asking me to check the Spam, Junk and Promotions folders.
    2. Recommending whitelisting these email addresses and domains: amazonses.com, [email protected] and [email protected]
    3. Asking me to check the Communication Preferences and make sure all the necessary options are checked.
    4. Recommending me to keep an eye on upcoming promotions.

This was all they could do they said. They also let me know they can't resend past promotions. So don't expect to receive the Halloween newsletter unfortunetely.

    1. I already checked the folders before contacting support.
    2. How is whitelisting going to help if I never received an email from other promotions in the first place? Their "filtered or delayed by your email provider" argument is not holding up, because how would that be the case if no email went to those folders or never got sent even though past promotions had possible delay?
    3. I already had the Communication Preferences checked long before contacting support.
    4. I've already kept an eye on upcoming promotions for a long time now without getting promotional emails.

I too have managed to contact support and get a code in the past when the email newsletter didn't reach me, but either their policies have recently changed or how helpful support is is completely dependent on the person who gets assigned your ticket.

@TragicSolitude specifically in reference to creating a way for people to purchase drops at a later date. I remember distinctly grinding to get the below banner and then saw not that long ago it was included in a bundle they were selling (if I remember correctly is was a crow themed bundle and included a cosmetic for the artist). Not saying this is common, but it does happen sometimes… albeit for money and not shards.

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/JXJH137J67J9/image.png

Selling items that were otherwise free for money bothers me. There's no shipping involved, no physical resources, these are digital items, and they were released in a way to encourage engagement. Iri Shards are rewarded for engaging with the game, so allowing people to purchase otherwise free cosmetic items with Iri Shards makes perfect sense. I'd like to see BHVR do that.

In general, I wish BHVR would stick to giving away Bloodpoints through newsletter codes and Twitch drops. They have a nearly empty free Rift track: the badges, banners, and charms could be there. Should be there. There is nothing about unlocking these things through Twitch drops that makes them more valuable to me. It's just another thing to keep track of, and I guess apparently have go wrong.

  • As someone who only started using Twitch because of DbD, and who uses it a lot, and who has unlocked every Twitch drop until Sinister Grace charms where something went wrong and the drops didn't unlock... after dealing for days with BHVR support and Twitch support and getting nowhere except discovering it's BHVR's choice not to help me... I'm a long-time customer and player, and BHVR keeps finding new ways to make me feel like I have no value to them.

I'm sick of exclusive FOMO cosmetic items locked behind other platforms. The point of free digital items should not be to exclude players for any little reason. BHVR chooses these methods of giving them away for engagement metrics, but there's no reason to not help people obtain them when those engagement systems fail. Nor is there any reason not to give them out via a more universal method after a short wait period. Most people who are able will still jump through the hoops to get the items unlocked first thing rather than wait.

BHVR could give these cosmetics away via universal free codes at a later date. Or they could create a little area for them in the DbD in-game store where players can purchase them for shards. Being able to buy the otherwise free badges, banners, and charms for Iri Shards would be appreciated by many people.

  • Glad to see more people talking about this. I've complained about this a few times. Needing to complete every single quest is not player-friendly design. Choices are player friendly.

This is so unsettling for me being as I’ve been playing this game for almost 8 years. Being told “well we can’t send you a customizable code to be able to redeem it or grant it to your account” isn’t true. They are more than capable to do it, just that they could care less that they haven’t actually sent the codes out to majority of their players. Makes it very upsetting and annoying.

I really don't feel valued as a player. BHVR is being very gatekeep-y about free digital in-game items. We pay for this game, we pay for the DLC and cosmetics. BHVR just gave us the most disappointing Rift many of us have ever seen with an empty free track and an unremarkable paid track. No new content for months. The game is full of issues. And if any of us have problems claiming a free item, it's "Sorry, can't help. Better luck next time."

Why are any of us supporting this game? Free items are to show your players you value their time and loyalty. Their purpose is not to be held hostage as an exclusive, but BHVR is focusing on the exclusivity rather than making sure any of us feel appreciated for sticking around.

I played 3 matches this evening. During those matches only had 1 survivor per match ever went into the void and if you don't stop chasing immidiatly and insta down him then and there, there is no way you are doing this. So currently I am at 1/15 and realised you NEED this quest for the 20/20 Completed Quests… UNLESS, the but in more quests towards the end, or actually patch or better remove this quest. It has nothing to do with "challenging" and everything with bad design.

    @Biebermeise said:

I think the biggest issue for many people is, in the past you could skip certain quests and still finish the event and gell all the items. But most people struggle HEAVILY with this quest, making it nearly impossible to complete for a lot of people.
But since you need all quests done these days to even get all the loot, they feel miserable, because of that.
They should lower each requirement for event and tome completion to 80% instead of 100% … that would more or less be on the same note as it used to be with the old tome system.

There is one extra quest in the Haunted by Daylight event (the kick 50 pumpkins quest). So, at the moment, there is room for disregarding one quest. However, we don't know if there will be any other horribly designed challenges besides the "hook 15 in the void" one.

  • I hated doing that challenge.

As survivor, I've seen killers who will drop everything and immediately go into the Void if a survivor enters it, and… yeah, I've used that to distract killers. I feel a bit guilty doing it, but when you're playing solo you take what openings you see (it's like mind gaming but without the interaction). BHVR shouldn't give survivors so much power over a killer's challenge.

  • I got the code, but I would've missed it if there hadn't been a thread on the forums informing people of it. Not only do I not look for those emails (they're so sporadic), but the charm is hidden at the bottom of a very long email.

Bloodpoints. Bloodpoints should be given away via email newsletter codes and Twitch drops. Cosmetic items—including banners, badges, and charms—should be given away via a single universal code everyone can enjoy. Instead of minimizing how many people are excluded, they tried to increase exclusion with that recent Discord banner fiasco. We're lucky it went so poorly. Hopefully they'll never try it again. I wish they'd get away from Twitch drops and email codes, too.

  • One-Two-Three-Four! : Make it air drums instead of a tambourine.

    That's all.

  • I would like to see this happen for all Twitch drops. Cosmetic items (which includes banners, badges, and charms) shouldn't be locked behind a one-time chance at participating, especially not on a completely separate platform.

My friend and I have unlocked all/most of the Twitch drops on our accounts, and the idea of others unlocking them with a code later doesn't bother us. Things go wrong, people miss out on stuff, these things being given away via codes at a later date would not hurt Twitch drops participation, because many people will prefer to get them first thing, but it would give everyone a chance to have them which is how it should be. There's nothing special about Twitch drops and email giveaways, it's just more ways for people to miss out on stuff unnecessarily if they remain exclusive.

These items really should be released as codes for everyone.

Edit: Well, at least the Two Witches (Blue) Banner was given away as a code after that Twitch drop went so poorly. It really shouldn't require a complete disaster to make sure as many people as possible get to enjoy something, though. The Discord quest was such a huge fiasco the FNAF banner was given away to everyone, as well. We're seeing that BHVR can give these things away, if they choose.

  • Yeah. It's fun to be a console player screaming into the void here, "Please don't touch Myers." I think console players have realized the game is always going to be in its current state, it's never going to get better. And some killers will never feel good on console. But BHVR could at least not take a killer whose power works on console and ruin it. That would be nice. But console players can't play the PTB, and even if they did they might not've noticed his changes behind the fifty million other more glaring changes in that PTB.

(And no, I've never felt Myers was unfair when facing him as survivor. I even found Tombstone a fun challenge. He was a killer I saw a decent amount, so I know people enjoyed playing him, but I didn't go against him constantly, so I didn't see any evidence his power was so unfair that the entire playerbase flocked to him. I see Ghostface constantly, however. In my MMR/region, Ghostface is probably the most common killer. Just giving this as some background to my opinions on the matter. Myers felt like he was in a perfect spot. I miss going against him. I've seen him twice since his update, and when I do, I'll never be wondering "Does he have Tombstone?" Instead, all I've witnessed is a couple console killers whiffing over and over again trying to use his Slaughtering Strike.)

  • sigh. I've signed up like ten email accounts, two of which are attached to BHVR accounts, to make sure I get these emails, and not a single one has received this email. I think BHVR sends these out in batches, so I guess it's just a waiting game, now.

Thank you for posting this, Nazzzak, otherwise I wouldn't even know to look out for this email. Much appreciated.

  • It's not impossible, but it's pretty miserable. Best bet is to stay in the void. Always have haunts. You can get two hits in quick succession as long as you have a haunt ready to send out. (Without a haunt then a hit, it's likely the survivor will make it through a portal because of the successful hit cooldown.) It's boring.

The killer challenges suck. It should've been hooking on Void hooks, not in the Void. And kill 3 survivors? Why kill? Why not sacrifice?

  • A few days ago, I opened up the game to do some survivor stuff. It had a bonus, but it was not instant. I didn't feel like waiting, so without playing a single survivor match (meaning I don't know how long the queue actually was), I switched to killer. The killer queue was instant. I played one or two killer matches to get challenges done and then turned off the game.

It was weird, because it was a time of day when survivor is usually instant and killer is a long ass wait, but I don't play DbD enough right now to know if that was a one-off or what.

I'm just sharing my personal experience. I don't know what server I'm on, I'm in the mid-western US.

  • Why does Trickster only have one pair of pants with the stained glass illustration on them and the other three pairs are practically plain?

In general, the cosmetics are not interesting. I looked at them today and was like, "Uh… okay." I shrugged at them. That's a good summation of my reaction to the non-community-submission cosmetics. They come across as uninspired. The designers couldn't think of anything, came up with a theme to try to spark ideas, and still couldn't come up with much of anything except a trailer. Especially when it comes to the survivor cosmetics. Spirit and Trickster are good starts, but it feels like BHVR rushed the completion instead of refining the early stages to something truly awesome, so they have parts that are good and parts that seem unfinished but you can't really mix-and-match so they're just overall useless.

Zero people wanted the weird creepy orange distorted skull flicker thing.

Like, why can’t we just get what we voted for? Who decided to put extra effort into making the cosmetic worse?

No. the face is still completely not what anyone voted for. Everyone wanted the goofy emote faces.

What a damn shame. The emote is so much better. Makes me wonder if they even plan to fix it, 'cause it shouldn't take this long.

Like, why can’t we just get what we voted for? Who decided to put extra effort into making the cosmetic worse?

This comes off like someone there thinking they can do better than the submitted design and wanting to put their own mark on it so they'll get compliments for their changes. Which is a rather insecure way to approach the task. It'd be better to take pride in trying to make the most accurate translation possible of the source material.

People want to see the thing they designed/voted for added to the game, not see it used as a jumping off point for what the design team wants to do. Nor do we want to see the every-corner-cut version (ugh, those scissors they gave the Dredge are so low effort and ugly).

Stopping wasting money made me feel better, but we'll, XD, I still spend a lot.

I've bought almost all the licenses, and I bought the original characters through bundles. So yeah. I usually don't spend too much money on games (even when I played Chinese gacha, I prefered to grind rather than pay for gamble, but Silent Hill and BG3 were the exceptions, while DBD was the most expensive game I've ever played. And I regret that a little.

Yeah, once I realized BHVR wasn't going to put the money I was giving them towards any console issues, I really stopped putting money into the game. I regret what I have given them, but I can't say I haven't gotten a lot of playtime out of the game. I've played it more than I ever should've.

I usually don't put money into games, either. I've played one gatcha game, DOAXVV, but I never put money into that: I gamble with the currency it gives me for free and that's it. I hate gambling with money. Coin op machines and maybe maybe blind box figures every once in a while, but that's it, and blind box figures 99.9% of the time let me down (I bought two! … and got the same one twice. @$%#$!). I purchased probably most of the bundles for the original Dying Light game, but those felt more than worth it, especially with as much time as I put into the game, and Techland gave DL1 a lot of love, events and new stuff for years; I was happy to give them money. I wish that were the most expensive game I'd played, but no, I'm sure it's DbD, and DbD really didn't deserve it. Foolish me.

I currently enjoying remake of Silent Hill2 and planning to try SH3 as well.

But yeah, that's not exactly what I'm looking for. The thing is, I've already spent a lot of money on this game. I can't just leave DBD—at least not right now. I’m making pauses and that's fine, it just feels it doesn't really work anymore and quality is even more poor

The thing is, I've already spent a lot of money on this game.

That's a large part of why I stick around, too: sunk cost fallacy. Also, it's one of the few games my friend and I can (well, maybe "could"—past tense—would be more appropriate, now) play together because of PS4/Switch cross-play. But probably mostly sunk cost and time.

  • Much agreed.

What they did with the skin sucks. They looked at the submission and used it as inspiration rather than a guide, which is not what anyone wanted. We want that skin, not BHVR's re-interpretation of it. They destroyed all of its personality. They didn't do the sheets properly, they didn't even try to do the fabric scissors. The original design was a cohesive aesthetic and BHVR said, "Nah."

Have they fixed the Singularity submission skin where they purposefully chose to mess up his screen face, yet?

  • I play games that aren't DbD.

Sorry, that's probably not the answer you're looking for, but it's the truth.

Playing with a friend makes DbD more fun, and we do silly things that aren't really part of normal gameplay to alleviate the burn out. We love the lute. Right now, however, Switch is cut off from cross-play, so my friend and I can't play together. I just finished my first playthrough of Dying Light: The Beast. Good game. I've also been playing some Hollow Knight (original), Lords of the Fallen (2023), and a bit of Bloodborne. If I'm going to be playing a game solo, I'm going to play a game that's fun for solo, and DbD ain't it.

My entire point is that this isn't true. You don't have the log in and do dailies to finish the Rift, because the other changes made to the system mean you're going to be making more progress in fewer games as long as you have weeklies to do, exempting event quests from the equation.

The issue isn't that there's a hefty grind that promotes FOMO, log-in-every-day kinds of attitudes. The problem is that the system currently creates lulls where it feels very grindy because milestones are the only real connective tissue between the release of weekly and/or event quests and they tick up quite slowly.
That doesn't actually encourage only logging in daily. You certainly can do that, and it's quite effective if you do, but you could also just wait until the next batch of quests and get significant progress over your play session that way.

It's a problem of feel that pops up here. It feels bad to stop making noticeable progress because you finished your weekly quests and you know it'll be a genuine grind to make progress, which means you at least might feel inclined to stop playing and wait until the next batch- that happened to me multiple times over the course of this rift, at least.

Again, this system is less grindy than the old one. Instead of one set of quests (two during events) that you can only progress one at a time, you have multiple sets that can all be progressed and even completed at once. There's no way that shakes out other than you needing to spend less in-game time to achieve more progression while you have quests available.

The old system did also have this problem to a degree, but it didn't feel quite as pronounced because it took longer to run out of quests… because it took longer to gain that progress.

I did lay all of this out already, it's the main crux of my post.

The first Quest system had milestones that helped with the Rift grind. The second one, the milestones were nerfed to give fewer rewards while the goals increased so the people who finished them too quickly the first time now wouldn't complete them week one. When that happened, BHVR increased the amount of rewards Daily Quests gave, moving a large part of the grind to completing the dailies.

milestones are the only real connective tissue between the release of weekly and/or event quests and they tick up quite slowly

Right now, there are no Milestone Quests at all.

this system is less grindy than the old one.

My post isn't necessarily about being more or less grindy. It's about the grind requiring a rather specific path and not giving players options. BHVR keeps narrowing the focus. The first Quest system allowed players to split their attention between milestones, dailies, and weeklies (I'm not forgetting events, but I'm not including events in the list because those are not scheduled/structured in a way that allows players to rely on them) to complete the Rift. With the second iteration of the Quest system, the Milestone contributions to Rift progress were shifted to Daily Quests. With this third iteration (we're on the third one, right? I think we are), there are no Milestones at all.

BHVR also decreased the amount of Rift Fragments earned from XP when going from the Tomes to Quests. So players are rewarded less for playing. To make good progress, they need active Quests available. The length of the Rift Pass also increased. The Deep Rift went from ending on tier 85 to tier 100.

BHVR keeps narrowing the focus, taking away options. That's what I'm saying with my post. They are forcing players down a specific path. When there were Tomes, we got a lot of progression from playing, especially when there were Rift Fragment Frenzies or XP events. With the first iteration of the Quest system, we at least got a good boost from Milestones. Each change to the Quest system has put more emphasis on Daily Quests and taken away from Milestones.

I used to finish the Rift with a lot of time to spare, usually before level 4 of the Tome even released. That's not how it shakes out, now. I did every single Weekly, and had I not done the majority of the Dailies, I would not have reached the end of the Rift.

Edit: I guess I should clarify, I know our views overlap in some areas. I expand on things I say to try to make sure I'm being clear. I'm trying to write cohesively rather than splitting my post up to address different points individually, and I'm not sure that's turned out better or worse.

you needing to spend less in-game time to achieve more progression while you have quests available.

See, yeah, that's the thing. BHVR is splitting up quests so that at any given time there are fewer available. To force people to spread out their time playing, not because that's what's good for the player, but because that's what's good for BHVR's player number stats. I hope I'm getting that across correctly. The forced spreading out leads to people playing when they don't want to, which leads to burn out. Video games are a past time, not a job, people should be able to play on their own schedules. I preferred the Tomes because I could play when I wanted to, when it was convenient for me. Whether or not it was less time, it was the time I chose.

I meant for this to be clarifying and I think I'm about to go off on a tangent. Sorry, I'm upset at BHVR. I want to play with my friend and I'm stuck in Switch purgatory for at least another week. I really want to rant. Any and all ranting is addressed at them, btw, not you.

Also, BHVR, please prove me wrong. Please. Give us good, long-going and rewarding Milestone Quests so we have something other than weeklies and dailies. Give us more options. Not requirements, options. It's so tiresome to see that once again every single weekly quest is required to unlocked that final Rift Pass quest reward. Are we going to get another "kick 15 gens in one trial" quest? Cause it was super fun waiting in the killer queue just for that.

Edit 2: Oh hey, the Milestone quests are back! I think they're the same as last time, though, with the increased numbers and decreased rewards. For reference, during the first Quest iteration, I completed all of the survivor milestones (I don't remember about killer). During the second Quest iteration, I only completed one milestone, period. Nothing else got even close to 10/10. I don't try for the milestones with these numbers because it's way, way too much work for nearly no reward.

I also finally realized a better way of wording what I was trying to say (I think): I prefer the way I could chunk my time with the Tomes. With the Quest system, players are rewarded most when they spread out their time. With the Tomes, my friend and I could sit down and play for a long chunk of time when it was convenient for us. With any game (but especially DbD), there's ebb and flow. Most play sessions start with a couple warm-up matches, and then you get into the flow of it and are having fun, and then at some point you get tired and it's time to call it quits for the day. Two people can put the same amount of time into the Rift system, but the one who spreads out their time to play daily is rewarded better than someone who chunks their time. Playing daily means I play a couple warm-up matches, and then the dailies are done and so I'm done. There's no chance to get into the flow of it, because if I keep playing but I'm not making progress, well I'm still going to have to turn the game on again the next day for that progress and it'll just mean even quicker burnout. Chunking my time to do the weeklies but ignore the dailies risks not finishing the Rift. From what I can tell, there are people on the forums who tried to play it that way and it didn't work out. It's why I like knowing the math. It's why I don't include event quests; yes, I did all the event quests, but I can't budget them into the calculations when they're an unknown. I need to finish the Rift sooner rather than later, I can't count on uknowns, because things happen (like BHVR changing the Switch update schedule so then Switch is cut off from cross-play and now my friend and I can't help each other finish quests). Yes, I really do expect things to go wrong that could screw me out of finishing the Rift if I cut it too close. I plan around BHVR making things worse rather than better, and it's often a safe bet.

  • I miss the Tomes. They encouraged my friend and I to play together.

Since the Tomes were replaced with the Quest system, my friend and I barely play together. Or at all, really. The Quest system is just not fun. These are daily chores that are required for grinding a battlepass that BHVR puts less and less effort into. The more they screw up the actual gameplay with their changes, the more needy the grind becomes to prevent their players from taking an extended break.

BHVR doesn't want casual players who play a couple long sessions on the weekend. They want players who log in every day and make their player numbers look good. So here we have the trap for casuals: the Rift. Hardcore players either don't care about the Rift or they'll earn it without thinking about it. This thing is predatory towards casual players. Log in daily and do your chores. It doesn't matter that players aren't having fun, that they're feeling frustrated and burned out, and that the Rift rewards aren't even worth the effort they demand.

The damn Rift Pass quest rewards also require players complete every single weekly Rift Pass quest for that final reward. Every single one. The Tomes used to let players choose a path to reach the end, and those weren't time limited.

This forced participation FOMO garbage is really ticking me off. Really. These aren't accidents, these aren't bugs, these are choices. Deliberate choices made for very apparent reasons. And it's not for the good of the playerbase, it's not for players to have fun. These design choices create short term positive outcomes for DbD while alienating and driving away the actual players over time. BHVR is wringing casuals out like damp towels for every last drop they can get. This isn't a free-to-play game, at least most of us are paying customers, and yet BHVR is trying to force casuals to play DbD likes it's their job. That's backwards. We gave them money and now they want excessive amounts of our time every day plus more money plus they don't actually fix the problems with their game. (I play on console, PS4 and Switch, so in terms of how I feel about how my monetary support of their game has benefited me, I'm enraged. Console optimization never and now Switch is cut off from cross-play for large amounts of time.)

tldr: BHVR sees casual players who play on the weekends as an opportunity. BHVR is using a needy grind to hook those casuals into daily chores that boost DbD's daily player number stats. It's causing frustration and burn out. It's miserable. Players deserve better, and BHVR doesn't deserve the support of their players with this sort of FOMO grind design. We've given them time and money, and they give us an ever more demanding grind with rewards that keep decreasing in quality.

The Switch update is approximately a week after Bugfix Patch 2 so tentatively scheduled for the 14th. The compensatory rift fragments will be for the rift that opened today, to make up for the time lost.

What happens if there's another patch that needs to be released in the near future? Like say if this patch came with new bugs or something. Will the Switch patch be delayed further, or will Switch get that tentatively scheduled patch that includes the Rift but still be out of sync with everyone else? Or will you guys hold off an releasing patches even if there are new bugs so Switch players don't spend their lives in exile?

  • @Mytea said:

i support this and was about to create an own entry. it's definitely a hassle with so little fragments as a reward. when i suggested bhvr should change the tome system because it took way too long for casual players to reach lvl 100 in a tome i didn't think they would lower the fragments even further.

there is actually no sense in completing the milestones currently because they only reward 25 %, but take like 100 repairs/heals/matches etc. that's WAY too much effort for WAY too little reward. also i just had to play 10 matches in order to gain the last few tome lvls today because i didn't have any more quests available. that's not how it should be. i mostly only got 5 fragments for a match even when i got multiple iridescent emblems.

People who play the game like it's their whole life finished the Milestones extremely quickly the first time around. They complained about it, they wanted larger goals to work towards. So, BHVR gave them larger goals, but they cut back on how much the milestones reward so they don't have much impact on the Rift, because most players are not going to get through those milestones. Instead, the focus is on completing the Daily Quests in order to finish the Rift. If players don't do a majority of the Daily Quests, they're unlikely to complete the Rift.

That's how it's balanced. Instead of giving players multiple ways to complete the goals, BHVR really focuses on one path. For the Rift Pass Quest rewards (the badges and banners rewarded for doing a specific number of weekly quests), all of the Weekly Rift Quests must be done to earn the final reward. Every single one. In the Tomes, players could choose a path to take, but now, there are no options. It sucks. This way of designing FOMO player participation elements is horrible for the actual player experience. They're forced daily chores where the rewards are too small to feel actually rewarding and the process isn't fun, so the inevitable result is frustration and burn out.

  • I liked Myers.

Past tense. I do not enjoy dash/speed killers on console. They're not fun. They feel like clunky garbage. It really really sucks to have lost one of the few killers who worked smoothly on console and who I found fun to play as. Standing menacingly far off in the shadows like a creepy slasher movie stalker was perfection. Walking at normal speed in DbD is something I can kinda sorta handle after all this time, so I could handle tier 3: tier 3 is a normal chase but with fewer steps, something that could actually be really handy on Switch where frame drops meant injuring a survivor often resulted in the survivor disappearing, breaking chase and resetting before I'd see them again (of course, if there were frame drops when I went from 99% to tier 3, that would go from an instant down to an instant loss, too, but there's only so much one can do).

As survivor, I enjoyed going against Myers and his add-ons. Except the Tombstone Piece, which felt cheap, but everything else was cool, including Judith's Tombstone. I miss Myers. He was probably my favorite killer to see. A lot of my most fun times in DbD were against Myers.

I want old Myers back. It feels very unlikely BHVR will revert him, though, since the change has already gone live. They turned an iconic killer into generic slop, what a damn shame. The game is less much less enjoyable for this.

There should be some sort of compensation till this gets fixed switch players shouldn't have to suffer not being able to play with friends because Nintendo or devs can't figure out their patch release issues. Can a official patch release date be set across the board, Please?

    ^ This. Absolutely this.

My friend's playing a couple matches alone to do the dailies and I'm not playing at all because we have the game on PS4 and Switch. We have the game so we can play together. He's not having fun playing alone. BHVR needs to come up with a real schedule and fix this, and if Switch is going to continue to be exiled and get the worst treatment of all the platforms I'd like to know now, because it might be time for us to uninstall. The situation with DbD on Switch has gotten worse and worse ever since the port's release.

Switch players spent at least as much money as players on other platforms, we got less for it, and now we get excluded from playing with the rest of the playerbase for extended periods of time. The Rift is still going on, it's not like that's on pause. Plus the new DbD Day challenges. BHVR slows down Switch players (and my friend on PS4 playing without me isn't having a good time of things, either) but the FOMO stuff keeps marching along full speed.

The updates should be synced across platforms. Switch waiting on the sidelines is not acceptable in a game with cross-play (especially when there are FOMO elements like events and a battlepass).

Let's see, where does Switch stand in the scheme of things? The only console promised cross-progression with DLC transferring and the only one to not get it. The worst performance of all platforms. Plus it suffers from the same issues as other consoles, like no dead zone and response curve settings for controllers. And now we're on a different update schedule from everyone else and thus excluded from cross-play. BHVR, we're not freeloaders, we're paying customers.

  • I'm having problems around the exit gates before they're powered. On PS4, on the Huntress realm maps, if I go near the exit gates the PS4 fans go LOUD. Don't get me wrong, it's normal for them to get loud during DbD these days, but I've never heard them this loud before. Ever. I'm worried the console is going to overheat and crash.

I mean it, it's bad. There's something really wrong with the game around the exit gates, even before the gates are powered. I walked by the gates when it was the beginning of the game and the fans suddenly went into super duper jet engine mode like my PS4 was about to catch fire. (And of course it's accompanied by drops in performance.)

I am unironically was an enjoyer of playing against tombstone Myers

    Now it’s gone and that’s a lil sad :(

ohmigod, you too?? I thought I was the only one. I enjoyed trying to figure out what add-ons Myers was running. I enjoyed going against Tombstone and it was a challenge I gave myself to avoid getting Tombstoned without ever using a locker (and if I enjoyed the match I'd give myself up at the end for the Tombstone). Myers was one of my favorite killers to go against, and Tombstone was absolutely part of that.

I miss Myers. I've seen him once since the rework, and that one was just kind of hanging out on the map and not playing. It's awful to think I won't play against the Myers I've known and loved anymore.

I get that. Personally I swore to never play Blight again after a few matches just because of how clunky, rigid and fickle his power is. IDC that he is strong, he feels like ass to play.

Absolutely. I tried playing Blight for a good while. His map mobility is wonderful. The problem was, I could only use his power for map mobility. Hitting survivors in chase with his power wasn't really viable, but the whole fun of killer is using their power to get hits/downs. It's not fun to run fast across the map but be an M1 killer with no power in chase.

Most/all mobility killers are balanced around powers that control like ass. I guess for many people strength is the fun part. For me, I don't enjoy fighting the controls, I don't enjoy clunky gameplay. In fighting games, I go for the fast fighters, not the slower powerhouses. I use daggers and regular swords in soulslikes, not the great swords and hammers that take fifty years to wind up. Personal preference. Smooth gameplay is what feels good to me. In DbD, I main Nemmie because his strafe lets me get value out of his tentacle whip. That's kind of sad, choosing my main killer almost entirely based on his power allowing to correct for console issues (survivors react faster to me than I can react to them, aiming for the middle of a giant TV screen with no reticle is awkward, that sort of thing).

  • I liked old Myers. His power was easy to understand and use, it was thematic. It wasn't necessarily strong, but it was fun to play as him.

BHVR designs dashes and speed powers to have controls that often feel like you're fighting them to get the desired outcome rather than enjoying using them. At least, that's how it feels trying to steer them on controller/console. And dash/speed powers do not work well with input lag and low framerates/frame drops/stuttering. I used to regularly play Myers, but I won't play him anymore after this rework. His original design made him one of the few killers that were really comfy to play on console. BHVR taking that away is so backwards. It's not like every killer can be good on console, I'm not asking for that, but most are already designed around PC players, so taking one off the console-friendly list and moving it to the PC list sucks. Plus, I really enjoyed playing Myers. I'm just very disappointed in the whole thing.

  • I can't bring myself to read most of the overlong in-game lore because I find it boring and poorly written. The more I learn about the characters the less interesting they often are. I assume actual novels would be more of the same. The lore doesn't engage me at all and often overexplains.

I watched streamers play The Casting of Frank Stone, another example of what a DbD story could be like, and I was not impressed by that, either.

Strangely, I like the bits of lore BHVR came up with for Meet Your Maker. I'd be interested in more stories from that world. (Would the magic be ruined the moment they try to write characters for it? Ugh, that's sadly quite possible.)

  • There's already a bug report for this here:

SUMMARY OF THE ISSUE: Rift Challenges completed are desynced

    PLATFORM: PC

STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW THE ISSUE OCCURED: just play the game, the challenges done and those who count are desynced. In my case 7 weekly challenges completely done, so 5 * 7 = 35, then add 4 * 2 = 8, so 43 challenges done in total

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/0NQD33CCSBQR/20250926174346-1.jpg

but only 34 challenges are counted

    PLAYER LOGS:

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/D9ZCEVVN7ODZ/deadbydaylight.log

I also opened a ticket for this bug, and I received this response:

    rift-pass-rewards.png

I really hope that's wrong, because if it's correct it means players are required to complete every single Rift Pass challenge to get that final reward. (Every week, there are 5 quests, and one of those is always "Complete 3 quests." With 10 weeks, that equals 40 quests that count towards the 40 Rift Pass Quest(s) challenge.) Personally, I don't find sitting in a long killer queue so I can kick gens 15 times in one match to be a fun experience. The Tomes did not require players to complete every single challenge to earn the reward(s) at the end, they let players pick and choose a path, and the main Tomes weren't limited time like the new Rift Pass quests are.

I'd rather have an actual challenge than the "Complete 3 quests" freebie if it allowed me to not have to do every single quest in the Rift Pass for the final reward. This is absolutely terrible design, I don't understand how BHVR doesn't have someone on staff to make sure player experience is taken into account for these things.

  • The Skilled Huntress trophy still requires 100 hatchet downs on PlayStation, even though the text now says "20." This change was made over a year ago and the inaccuracy/bug was immediately reported, and it still hasn't been fixed.

So, there's a good chance that if the achievement numbers are changed, it'll be a change to the text only, and the actual requirements will remain the same.

  • I submitted a bug ticket about this and I received this response:

    rift-pass-rewards.png

If that's correct, then only four of the five weekly Rift Pass quests count towards the final goal. Which means the Rift Pass is designed to force players to complete all quests within a limited amount of time to earn the final reward.

Again, the Tomes weren't nearly this bad. Only event Tomes were time limited, and in most Tomes players had options in terms of a path to take rather than being required to do them all. The Quest Challenge design is awful. I don't enjoy sitting in a killer queue forever so I can kick 15 gens in one match. That's less fun than house chores, at least mopping the kitchen floor feels satisfying when it's clean, who the hell wants to waste time in the killer queue just to then waste time kicking gens? There is no feeling of accomplishment to this garbage.

I'm not sure that properly, fully expresses my dissatisfaction with the current Rift Pass Quest Challenge design.
