I've played hundreds and hundreds of matches since the DC penalty was added, including the "giving up" penalty if you AFK or purposefully get killed as a survivor. I've found that in both my killer and survivor games it hasn't reduced the amount of people disconnecting at all. In fact, it seems like there are more disconnects in my matches than ever before.

If BHVR refuses to balance the game properly, and is going to keep adding unfun and tedious events that are easy to abuse by problematic players (SWFs), and make solo-queue players get curb stomped, why even have the penalty? It's just slowly killing the playerbase by making players who DC just go play a different game. In my opinion, its like putting stitches on a papercut. If enough players disconnect from games eventually they'll probably end up quitting DBD outright, or eventually finding themselves in a state where they won't be so frustrated. They'll at least feel like they have a choice whether or not they have to play the game they queued for. This is a casual game for crying out loud, not Counterstrike, not Valorant, not Rainbow Six. Not everyone wants to play like their whole family is on the line every match. Ultimately, they will disconnect either way, the penalty is just encouraging them not to boot the game back up.

I sometimes have the most miserable matches ever as killer, 15+ minutes long of grueling sweaty nonsense where I either barely win by a hair, or lose abysmally. After eating a third dead-hard and a second decisive strike, on my 18th pallet kicked, all on a C tier M1 killer that has zero map mobility or ranged ability, why can't I just give survivors the win and DC? Is it really necessary to take my rank grade a full level down and give me an incrementally larger cooldown? I mean I'll give them the BP I don't care, I just want out at that point, but they keep the game going no matter what. I've seen numerous killers I've faced just go AFK at that point so they can't be farmed for BP. But when the roles are reversed, and I obliterate a bully squad in the first 5 minutes because they misplayed their flashlight or pallet saves, they just DC anyway and the one or two randoms in the lobby are stuck with bots. How is it fair that people who abide by the penalties have to suffer because the penalties do nothing to discourage the toxic players these changes were intended for?

If people don't want to play, I say let them not play. At least then I can play against bots, or go next as killer. Until they create a proper MMR system or get some real balancing in the game's current meta, nothing will change, penalty or no penalty everyone is rage-quitting left right and center, and I can't blame them. There's nothing currently to enjoy in the game on either side. Killer's either get bullied, or survivors get steamrolled at 4 gens.

And before you downvote me I'm asking a serious question, I've always been a fan of MintSkull and he basically released a statement today that he's stepping back from DbD because of almost all the reasons I listed here. Poor balance, monotonous meta, entitled survivors that DC either way. I want a genuine discussion here, because I'm on the brink of quitting the game myself.

edit: got stuck in the ground while i was typing this, 10/10 event. How is this acceptable for the 10th anniversary of all years? I also just played a Knight game just now and halfway through the match (was unbreakable pallets as the modifier) my guards just became unable to walk through downed pallets and would just walk into them until their chase timer ran out. I wonder how many DC penalties are being handed out just from bugs alone this event

If you’re not enjoying the game, then don’t play it. Allowing people to ruin others’ matches consequence free is not the solution here. Plenty of people are having fun with the game, evidenced by the all-time high player count. People who are not enjoying it are either burned out (which is fine, I get it) or just have unrealistic expectation relative to their skill level.

  • Average kill rate is 60%. That feels pretty fair to me.

  • It’s a simply answer: they want people playing longer. Playing longer = more likely to spend $

You have a better idea then? Cause from what ive seen the community is pissed and geniunely hates the event. Unless you like it (which you can thats fine), and want to keep playing but some of us geniunely wouldn't rather play this game at all until the issues are addressed

If the community are pissed and genuinely hate the event, why is the player count at an all-time high right now?

I don’t like the event either, but it’s very clear that a vast majority of players either enjoy the event or are at least satisfied enough with it to keep playing. BHVR are going to measure their success based on player count/revenue coming in, not loud voices on forums/Youtube/social media.

  • I don’t like the event either, but the player count is at a historic high right now. Despite the seemingly widespread dislike of the event, more people than ever are playing the game, so can anyone explain why BHVR would do anything differently?

  • ok fine - you’re also playing one of the only killers who can capitalize on the poison with easy one shot downs. Try anyone but Bubba or Hillbilly

  • why do we need a separate thread about this to add to the 85 other threads about how people don’t like the event?

  • I mean, you try to play killer in this event and win without tunneling. See how it goes for you and it might make you realize why people are doing it.

Bit a survivor can force a killer to have to wait out the end game collapse by hiding on the map. I have had it happen to me multiple time and guess what it feels worse then when im slugged on survivor because i dont get an indication where the survivor is all I can do is move around the map so just like a slugged survivor.

That’s a valid argument. In my experience it’s very rare, though. Usually survivors are just waiting at the gates and I tab out of the game to do something else until they leave. I personally have no problem if killers get to abandon once the gates are open. I really don’t understand why people have a problem with it. It doesn’t affect survivors at all and the only reason I can think of that people are opposed to it is because they want to force killers to watch them t-bag at the exit gates.

  • How many more new posts do we need about the exact same topic? Like 98% of players agree that the event is ridiculously survivor-sided. More posts aren’t needed to convince people. The best thing you can do if you don’t like it is simply not play killer role in the event. Make the survivor queue times get up to ridiculous levels and BHVR will get the message that they screwed up (if they somehow haven’t gotten that message already).

  • Queue times have had a long-standing pattern, at least in my region (US Midwest). Killer queues are long and survivor queues instant during the day when there are fewer survivor players because most people can’t get together for SWF and it flips during the evening when more people are playing together with friends. So the queue times for either side don’t prove anything about whether the game is killer-sided or survivor-sided.

I will say that since Jason was released, the killer queue times have been much longer than usual. It’s a combination of lots of people wanting to play Jason because he’s kind of busted and survivors not wanting to play because literally every game is against Jason and the survivor gameplay against Jason is super boring and uninteractive.

Killers can still go around and potentially get a kill. Survivors on the ground or hook can't do anything and is pointless to stay. They've lost, and you're just keeping them in there for whatever reason.

Though abandoning after getting knocked down after 3 hits seems kinda much . Should only be when everyone is either downed or hooked.

It’s good that we can agree that survivors shouldn’t be able to abandon simply for being slugged multiple times. I also agree with you that there is a big difference between the situations that most people are pointing to here (killer being able to abandon at endgame vs survivors being able to abandon when everyone is hooked/slugged). The feature is really intended to prevent killers from forcing survivors to bleed out for up to 4 minutes and survivors not being able to do anything about it. Killers aren’t forced to wait out the endgame.

  • @BigKingWoof said:

A lot of entitled killers wanting a free dc without any penalty for being sore losers in this thread.

So you’d be ok with getting rid of the survivor abandon feature as well, I take it?

I'm for anyone checking out whenever, let a bot take over.

If it's too difficult to bot all the unique Killers, just make it a basic M1 bot and increase it's speed a little bit.

All the DC penalty does is make me log off. Who cares?

If you're not having fun, leave.

Comments like this (and the fact that my opposition to DC-ing gets downvoted) explain why the DC penalty is so badly needed. Way too many people don’t care if they ruin the game for others. Disconnecting as killer ends the match for everyone and BHVR should not be obligated to spend a huge amount of resources to program bot killers because some people can’t handle losing in a video game. Disconnecting as survivor ruins the match for their teammates. Either way, you’re ruining the match and I’m glad that there’s a system to keep people who constantly ruin other people’s games from playing the game.

I don't know if the issue is my where I'm at in MMR or just getting crappy matches but I have had the worst time in the event. Every match is just Killers hard sweating for the 4k, tunneling, proxy camping the entire time. Or it's survivors just hard genrushing from the start and nobody in the lobby interacting with the event. If I wanted to hard sweat and win every match then I would just playing regular 1v4 without all the wacky and goofy stuff. Which is exactly what I've gone back to doing. I just don't see why it's so hard to just have any sort of fun in this game. Everybody treats every match as life or death. As if they lose this match they won't win million dollars or their family will perish.

All I ask from the community is to just have fun. Enjoy the wacky and silly things that you can do in the event. Have fun with the other people in the game that you normally would be at odds with. These events are meant to bring people together and to have laughs and farm BPs. I've had 2-3 matches so far where I've honestly had a wonderful time. Using the invis or the invul to make plays, lose killers, and do other funny things. Did I escape? Nope. Do I care? Absolutely not. The event isn't meant for winning. It's meant for fun and goofs. Just go have fun and goof around with each other. I promise you'll enjoy it more and you won't raise your cortisol trying to hard sweat in a mode where somebody can invul sabo your hook and auto pick the whole team up with a banquet table.

Some people’s idea of fun in the game is hard tunneling or gen rushing. Everyone should be able to play the game the way they want within the rules and not feel bad about it. If there’s something broken in the game that is causing one side to less fun than the other, that will be reflected in queue times and BHVR will have to make balance adjustments.

Apparently plenty of people are having fun in the game even with all the complaints because the player count is basically at an all time high right now.

  • I’ve already said this multiple times, but nothing is going to change no matter how much community outcry there is. The player count is basically at an all-time high, so what incentive is there for BHVR to do anything differently?

  • Nobody should be complaining if they are still playing the game and spending money on it. BHVR aren’t going to do anything differently if the player count stays historically high as it is now. Years of history show that they only respond to feedback with urgency when there is a large exodus of players.

  • There’s also some subtle cheating that goes on where gens pop suspiciously fast. I’ve seen many examples where I’ve gone past multiple gens with zero progress, started a chase and then see two of those gens pop in a minute or less and survivors don’t have toolboxes or gen speed perks.

  • The event really shows how BHVR has taken its player base for granted. Everything about seems like “here you go, take it or leave it” rather than a heartfelt “thank you” to the dedicated players that have supported the game and made it uniquely successful. It’s a long-standing theme of BHVR takings its customers for granted because there is no competition and the they know their customers will play the game no matter what.

  • I don’t know what BHVR was thinking giving survivors a ton a broken stuff and giving killer one very boring thing that is only strong on one-shot killers. So your choice as killer is play Bubba/Hillbilly or lose badly. BHVR should have at least kept some of the other strong things that killers had in prior anniversary events, not gut them completely. After seeing stuff like this happen over and over again, it becomes very difficult to believe that BHVR does any consultation with actual experienced players as they are planning these events.

People are right that this event is pretty terrible, which is very sad/disappointing given its milestone significance. I’m simply going to complete the quests and then go back to normal mode or just play something else for a while 😔

  • @UnicornMedal said:

Why would Survivor play? The most aggressive Killers are in the event queue and the only thing that's fundamentally different is putting food on a table. 🤣

Ok go ahead and play killer in mode and see how enjoyable it is

  • @GS117 said:

With the 10th anniversary event officially being out, it’s undeniable now. The game is survivor sided. Just from the fact of how they designed the event cements this as truth. Even just by reading the description, the event feels like the developers were sitting in a creative room, making up this amazing event, giving survivors all these amazing abilities to turn invisible and teleport and take a free hits and some intern went “hang on a second, what about killers?” and the room went silent as they all looked at each other, scratching their heads, and some guy just went “uhh idk give em poison or something”. I mean this event is just a spit in the face to killers. If the biggest event to celebrate the game being out for a DECADE is designed with nothing for killers in mind, what more proof do you need?

How long do you want killer queues to be? 30 minutes? An hour? Also, did you suddenly forget that BHVR just released one of the most busted and unfun killers ever? I am normally very sympathetic to the killer side, but anyone complaining that killers have it tough right now clearly does not play survivor.

  • Agree 100% and I also posted about this recently. Jason is the new champion of boring on the killer roster. His design actively discourages interaction with survivors and the matches usually turn into excruciating crouch walk simulators. My former least favorite boring killer to go against was Legion, but now I would take 100 Legion matches in a row over another Jason match.

  • With the response rate I get on my reports, I’m not sure BHVR even looks at them

  • @cogsturning said:

Naw we have enough over-complicated kits right now. Wraith is a great simple killer with solid add-ons. He's perfectly fine.

Agree - I play Wraith quite a bit and I think he’s fine.

  • Solo queue is a wasteland because BHVR continue to refuse to improve 1) how skill is measured and 2) the matchmaking system itself. So most of the time the skill level of your teammates will be completely random. That’s the way it is in nearly all my solo queue matches. This is a terrible, broken system. BHVR have told us for a long time that they “plan” to do something to improve it, but I lost hope a long time ago that they are really serious about it.

The #1 thing the devs could do to improve the system is end the insanely stupid “escapes = skill” way that MMR is calculated. Give people incentive to play well in matches even if they are losing or if they don’t like the killer so that they have a better chance of better teammates in future matches. In the current system, as soon as the survivors think they are going to lose, they give up because their MMR is going to decrease whether they fight hard in the loss or give up lying down in the loss.

  • @cammoking123 said:

We gotta stop pretending these are the olden days where Dead Hard ruled the meta. Now survivors gotta work harder than killers for wins. Look at the win rates. BHVR balances to make sure killers are winning 50%-60% of the time.

Win rate and kill rate are not the same thing. Target kill rate is 60%. Win rate is likely closer to 50% (or slightly lower) and if killers are winning around 50% of matches then that is pretty well balanced.

  • I’m fine with people being able to body block off hook, but then they also need to be ok with doing so making them a tunneling target. If someone wants to use free endurance to body block rather than getting themselves to safety, I’m going to make them pay the price.

  • It sure would be nice if everyone could just not take video games seriously, but unfortunately that’s not the case and never will be. There are just a lot of very toxic people in the gaming world - always has been and always will be. And it’s not just in DbD - they’re in every PVP game.

  • This is a very predictable winning formula for selling DLCs. Release killer is a very overpowered state, wait a month until everyone who was going to buy DLC has bought it, unleash the nerf hammer to appease the outcry, never see killer in any of your matches again.

  • I honestly don’t remember the last time I saw this perk used in one of my survivor matches. It’s been a very long time. The fact that I basically never see it used, ever, tells me that it’s not very problematic.

  • @dogsbollok said:

People telling me jason is too op and I shouldn't enjoy playing against it. You don't speak for me or to anyone for that matter. I quite enjoy playing against jason and nobody, not even you, can tell me otherwise. Jason is balanced and I'll stay on this hill until I pass away.

This drone mindset ruins the game and it needs to stop.

You’re perfectly entitled to that opinion. But the majority of others who disagree with you are equally entitled to their opinions.

Oh please whenever a killer has an opinion you downvote them to the abyss

LOL ok sure 😂. First of all, how do you know which posts I downvote? Second, I play killer more than I play survivor and you can simply look at my post history to see all the comments I’ve made supporting the killer side that have plenty of downvotes from people who don’t like that I am sympathetic towards the killer side. It’s pretty hilarious that I get accused of favoring both sides and to me that’s a good sign that I must be doing something right 😉

  • Legion still exist?! Man, I hate going against Legion but I would figuratively kill to go against Legion after like 85 Jason matches in a row 🤪

  • @Yamalive said:

Every time invested in asking for killer nerfs is wasted effort, shown by history.

Just stop - that is provably false. Every killer that has been widely complained about has received nerfs - including Nurse!

  • @DBD78 said:

"he’s easily the most boring killer in the game to go against"

People say this with every new killer before they learn counterplay. In no way is Jason less fun than Ghoul? In my book there are at least 10-15 killers more boring to go against Jason is ok to face and quite fun to play. Overall not bad at all.

My point wasn’t about lack of counterplay. My point is that his design actively discourages interaction between killer and survivor. The counterplay is what make it incredibly boring to go against him.

Ah so by making Killer a miserable experience so nobody would want to suffer playing this event

”Miserable experience” is quite subjective and there is going to be a wide range of opinions on this for killer players. Remember that with the last 2v8 mode, which some people also said was so bad for killers that “nobody would want to play”, a vast majority of killer players still wanted to play and there were super long killer queues even though the survivor role was very strong. This is all about balancing supply and demand for the queues. You’re never going to make everyone happy, so the best thing for BHVR to do is try to make the largest number of people happy. That means if the killer side has super long queues, you nerf killer side or buff survivor side until the queues are more balanced.

  • @Nazzzak said:

They're probably anticipating longer killer queues, especially since we just got Jason. So they make the survivor role more interesting so people still queue up.

Yeah, fully agree. I have no problem with making the survivor side stronger/more interesting during the event because we know the killer queue times are going be long (they already are) with everyone wanting to play Jason. Killer players can complain all they want and threaten to not play, but there are plenty of other killer players who still want to play and will gladly take those spots in the queue.

  • Seems like there has been more stuff like this than usual recently. I hope the mods think about ways to limit spam posts from new accounts like this because apparently whatever controls are in place now to prevent alt accounts isn’t working.

  • Badham is by far the most survivor-sided with tons of safe loops and buildings within reach anywhere on the map. Midwich and Forgotten Refuge the most killer sided with very few windows and almost all pallets unsafe

  • @wesker_shades said:

    Two words: Fallen Refuge.

If you load in as survivor on that map, you might as well just eat the DC penalty, and move on to the next game, because of how one-sided it is.

    Other known one-sided maps:

    • Garden of Joy (favors survivor)
    • Forgotten Ruins (favors killer)
    • The Game (survivor)
    • Midwich (Killer)
    • Rotten Fields (Killer)
    • Badham (survivor)

    Honorable mentions

    • Old Haddonfield (heavily favored survivor)
    • Re-reworked Haddonfield (heavily favored killer)
    • Pre-rework Eyrie (probably the most survivor-sided map of all time)
    • Old Gas Heaven (very survivor-sided)
    • Old Ironworks (Known as the true Infinite Loop)
    • Pre-density Rancid Abattoir (Heavily killer-sided)

Fallen Refuge is a pile of garbage and just needs to be deleted from the game. It was a huge mistake for BHVR to ever release that map.
