I've seen killers get kills due to the survivor backflipping just a little too far from the exit gate and then getting a kill that way.
As long as this is the case, there is no reason for the killer to be able to abandon during the EGC, but BHVR will probably add it anyways.
I would just be patient, they haven't explicitly said no.It makes no sense why that should negate the ability for killer to leave the match during EGC if they choose to. If the killer wants to keep playing, they still can! They are not forced to hit the abandon button if they want to keep playing to try to get more kills. The only reason you are against it is because you either want to force the killer to waste their time waiting out EGC or you want to force the killer to have to come to the gate to force you out while you teabag them.

Currently abandons remove matches from survivor personal stats, inflating their ERs by deleting many losses. That's bad for the game because it gives a false sense of accomplishment and, at this point, with it having been talked about over many posts here and with mods absolutely having seen them but never addressing the points, it feels intentional.
As far as anyone can tell, bots are empty shells with no MMR, so if the killer slugs 4 people and they abandon, the killer gains no MMR, and the survivors don't lose any. The abandon system currently allows killers to smurf with slower MMR gains, and survivors to keep MMR they should have lost.
Until these things are fixed I'll remain against the abandon option in all cases.
I’d be totally fine getting rid of all abandons as well for the reasons you mentioned. But as long as survivors are allowed to abandon just for getting slugged a few times, there is no legitimate reason to not let killers leave when the gates are open.

If someone wants to provide an actual legit reason to require killer to stay in the match, I’m happy to listen.I don't have a problem with the idea of killers being able to abandon, but being we're discussing players being honest, it would honestly be a massive expansion of the abandon system.
The chance of the survivors making a comeback when all survivors are down, hooked, or dead is very, very rare. If they don't have the right perks its literally impossible for them to do it on their own and requires the killer to troll (intentionally let one get back up by picking up and dropping repeatedly, just face camping until the meter triggers), and even with one of the right perks this is such a disadvantageous situation for the survivors that progressing the objective is still extremely unlikely.
On the other hand, killers gaining kills after the gates are open is a normal occurrence, it happens frequently. Nothing about the gates being open signifies the game is over. The better comparison would be all to the survivors standing at the exit gate line, but as covered in other posts trying to put an abandon option in there has its own issues.
So one is a situation where advancing the objective is extraordinarily rare if not impossible and the other advancing the objective commonly happens.
Additionally, the killer has the ability to open the gates. They would have the power to trigger the abandon. BHVR took the time to make it so plot twist could not trigger abandon, it is something the player doesn't have the power to do, but something that is done to them.
Honestly, giving the killer the option to abandon at gates being open would be like if survivors could abandon if someone was hard tunneled (the actual topic of this thread), an unfavorable situation, but not one where they cannot progress.
It’s not a massive expansion of the abandon system. It’s simply letting killers abandon when gates are open and the game is already over. Killers can stay and try to get more kills if they want - that’s their choice. If the don’t want to try to get more kills, then why do we demand that they stay in the match? That’s the only question that needs to be answered and people are still avoiding it.

My biggest issue is always that many Bugs just show a lack of testing. And this makes it either seem intentional or seen as a lack of care.
For example with the Skin, the realization that it was a very quite Lullaby would have come with playing one game with this Skin. If you want to go really, really sure, you would need to play a few more games, but overall the time investment is pretty limited to see if there is an issue.
Another example would be the pole we had for a time in the loading screen. This was no big deal, but again showed signs of not caring, since apparently they did not play a single game to see this pole.
I can completely understand if Bugs dont happen on the machinery the Devs are using. After all, this is why exact descriptions, Logs, pictures and videos are needed, because not every system is the same and it is hard to recreate Bugs. But if something happens 100% of the time on every system and was still not catched before going live, someone did not care or did not test at all.
The quality control in this game really is horrific. We’ve seen many issues go live into the game that any player with any level of experience would immediately able to identify as a problem. Makes it very hard to believe that any sort of QA testing gets done, or if it is done, that the testers have any experience at all in public matches. The only other possibility is that these things are released into the game intentionally as PTW.
But hey, all-time high player count, so why do anything differently?

They might be doing challenges where they need to do chests, escape with an item found in-game, etc. Or were sacrificed last trial and neglected to equip another.
You can still bring an item and do those things, so that’s not a legit excuse IMO. Most of the time when I ask people, they either say “I don’t feel like it” or “I’m saving them” which LOL ok they usually have like 300 of those items they will never use. I really am not interested in playing with teammates like that.

They have killer bots already made for at least 2v8 so I dont understand why killer cant have an abandon system. The game owuld end it woudl work like survivors and just spawn in a bot.
All they would need to do is either program the killer bot stand still until the match ends or go to check open gates and try to M1 any survivors in the area. That can be done easily for all killers, so there’s no excuse. Any honest player will admit that there is no good reason to force a killer player to stay in the match once the gates are open. Then match is over. Survivors get to DC for free once the match is over. Literally the only reason to force killer players to stay in the match once gates are open is increase the opportunities for teabagging at the exit gates. If someone wants to provide an actual legit reason to require killer to stay in the match, I’m happy to listen.

Disagree. I think toolboxes are fine

Except the Killer is in control of that situation, too. Even in endgame, even when the game is lost on the Killer's end, they are in control. That is the main difference that no one seems to understand.
So what if the killer is in control? Why do people demand that the killer must stay in the match to push the survivors out the gates? I think that’s the real question that many want to avoid answering. Literally the only reason to demand that the killer stay in the match is to increase the chance of toxic BMing at the gates. There’s no other reason, and honest people will admit that. I play both sides and I really do not care if killer is allowed to leave for free once the exit gates are powered. The match is over. If someone wants to provide an actual legit reason to require killers to stay in the match, I’m happy to listen.
-
This has been brought up many times. BHVR says that the abandon feature is only meant to prevent people from being forced to stay in a game that is already lost and they can’t do anything, but that isn’t true at all. Survivors can leave for free if they get slugged three times no matter what stage of the match they are in. I see people abusing this to get out of matches they don’t want to be in all the time. If this is ok, then it should ok to let killers leave for free once the gates are open. Killer can stay if they want to try to secure another kill.

- 3 stack w/ flashlights
It also drives me nuts when people refuse to bring items. They’re just purposely making the game more difficult for no reason. They’re free to do that if they want, but I’m also free to go find a different teammate who actually cares about helping the team win.

Will something ever be done about the nonfunctional matchmaking? Because until something is done about it, I’m going to find a new lobby whenever I get paired with literal brand new players, which happens all the time. The best was earlier this week when I matched with a default skin Nea whose Steam profile showed zero hours in the game. As long as BHVR refuse to fix their matchmaking system, I’m fine with people taking it into their own hands.

It definitely helps to report both in-game and with a ticket afterwards to get it to the devs' attention. Thanks - I guess I’ll try submitting a ticket as well next time to see if I have better luck getting a response.

It is sad that literally any post that references nitelite is downvoted (usually by what I suspect are survivor mains who simply want to nerf killers) (but you did not hear me say that :P).
It’s a zero percent valid data source because it’s selective reporting. We have no idea how much bias there is from people who want to report only their wins or only their losses or anything in between. It’s literal garbage data. That’s why references to Nightlight get rightfully downvoted.
-

I was going to say exactly this. Two problems here: 1) Nightlight is not a valid data source; and 2) BHVR share almost no useful or interesting data about game balance
-
One of the top changes I want BHVR to make is to base survivor MMR on several performance factors in a match and not just escapes. It’s colossally stupid that it has been “escapes is the sole measure of skill” for years now. There is nothing more frustrating than running the killer for several gens and then being the only one who doesn’t escape because the killer happened to hook you last at the end of the match. This has happened to me several times recently. Those matches would flip from extremely frustrating to extremely rewarding if MMR benefited from factors other than escaping. BHVR apparently don’t see this as a problem or a priority to fix.
I guess it doesn’t matter because the matchmaking system doesn’t work anyway. No matter what your MMR is, you’ll get matched with brand new teammates regularly. -
Here’s proving you wrong: AI doesn’t always get it right. People will be falsely banned and that is reason enough to not do it.

Not to sound rude, but using the excuse of "I don't want people to play them" shouldn't mean they don't deserve some buffs?
one of my points was that buffing Legion will encourage people to pick them more frequently, thus my opposition to buffs
-
Legion are weak but only against experienced survivors. They are a noob-stompers against survivors who refuse to play injured, so they heal to full all match and never touch gens. Even though they are weak against experienced survivors who are comfortable playing injured, I still hate going against Legion. Those matches are extremely boring mend simulators that take way too long. I don’t want there to be any more incentive for people to pick Legion.
-
It’s the only way they can get people to buy new killers. Why would anyone buy a new killer that is a worse version of existing killers? The winning formula is 1) release busted killer that combines better versions of multiple powers that other existing killers have, then 2) nerf into the ground later after enough money has been made.

What do past events have to do with anything? The comment you are responding to didn’t say anything about the event being bad because it was survivor sided. You’re simply assuming that to try to turn it into an “us vs them” argument.
-
People complain a lot but nobody is leaving the game because of this stuff. That’s how they get away with it.
-
I’ve been complaining a lot about this recently. Short answer: there is no functional matchmaking system. I don’t believe anyone who says that there is for a single second. I’ve had dozens of recent examples of literal brand new players in my solo queue lobbies recently (I have multiple thousands of hours). Just a couple days ago there was someone with 0 hours in the game. I’ve never seen this supposed matchmaking system actually work correctly.

Seriously though, it’s hard to believe that anyone actually tests this stuff before releasing live. It would take anyone who has literally any level of experience with this game about 10 seconds to realize this is a big problem.
-
It’s two things for me: 1) he’s overtuned in several aspects and basically a better version of several other killers, making those killers pointless to use anymore (at least from a relative killer strength perspective); 2) his design actively discourages killer/survivor interaction, making matches against Jason usually last much longer than typical matches and extremely boring.
The only killer I find more unfun to go against is Ghoul, but not by much.

It’s so easy to dodge the attack - that’s punishing enough. Making misses even more punishing would relegate him to bottom tier. I almost never see The First in my matches as it is now, so clearly he is not overpowered in his current state. I actually really enjoy going against him given how easy it is to dodge the ranged attacks.

Do you know it's not cross progression? My second platform is pretty low on hours. People would think I'm a baby.
Unlikely it was a cross progression player with any experience as it was a default skin Nea running no perks
-
I agree that the game feels balanced, but only if the two sides in a given match are relatively the same skill level. I think most of the complaints about the game not being balanced are coming from players who are just not very good at the game and/or players who are continuously falling victim to the nonfunctional matchmaking system that is repeatedly putting them in matches with/against others way outside their skill range. This game feels very balanced and enjoyable to me when the skill levels are matched appropriately, which sadly seems pretty rare these days.
-
I would love for someone at BHVR to explain how this happens. This was one of my solo queue teammates in my last match. It was not a backfill lobby. And the survivor queues are instant, so this is not an issue of “we just aren’t giving the system enough time for an accurate match.” It’s just taking “next person waiting regardless of MMR.” It is simply a garbage, broken system. A literal new low in the matchmaking ineptitude:

Killers have repeatedly been told that they aren't allowed to abandon in the end game (after gates have opened) and have repeatedly been made to force survivors out of the game by the gates for no reason as some sort of bm ritual. This forum perpetuates that message repeatedly.
This is the killer version of having to wait when someones slugging for the 4k. Both of them nothing can be changed as they are right by the exit gates waiting to leave as soon as you appear or you are on the ground with no way up and you just have to wait. Both of them are unfun (even if you still have the small chance to get a kill/hatch if a survivor monumentally ######### up waiting at the gate and you have noed or something) and one of them has been repeatedly stamped on, so this is being given the same birth by the killers.
But no, its not entitlement to slug for the 4k. The entitlement is saying you deserve the hatch showdown because theres 1 person downed on the ground. The killer doesn't have to give you hatch/the hatch showdown, the killer is allowed to slug p3 to try get a 4k, because their job is to kill everyone. And I do think that the "if other teammates were alive we'd get the option" your talking about is the abandon feature when a gen hasn't been popped in 5 mins. You can't just abandon when your on the ground 1st hook with 3 other survivors are alive. And the 5 min rule applies in the end game and in this slugging situation.
Personally, I think the abandon feature should only be used when your held hostage for over a minute. So I'd be fine with "survivor X has been slugged for a minute, they can now abandon rather than wait for the bleed out as a killer wants the 4k". I also want a feature to abandon for killers after the gates have been opened. In the matches they can still get things, they will willingly stay most the time as an extra kill is and extra kill. But give them the option to dip rather than sit there waiting for the teabaggs.
100% agree with this. I don’t understand why this gets downvoted, because it would help reduce perceived toxicity on both sides. The only reason people don’t like this idea is because they want to keep their ability to BM the other side. People wonder why toxicity is such a big problem in this game - well, that right there is a reason why. Let both sides move on to next match when it’s clear the opponent is intentionally wasting their time.
-
It’s seriously depressing that this wasn’t addressed years ago as it’s by far the biggest problem in the game in terms of player experience. I really would like to know what other things BHVR feels they need to prioritize over fixing MMR/matchmaking, other than new content which they will always prioritize because of $. I can’t think of anything that comes close to making the game miserable as the non-functional matchmaking and skill measurement systems. Just yesterday, I queued up for dozens of solo queue lobbies and had to leave at least half of them because they had brand new players with less than 100 hours, several with less than 30 hours. I’ve been playing this game for years, multiple thousands of hours, have no problem escaping with competent teammates. This kind of thing does not happen if there is a functional matchmaking system.

Why do I get penalized if my game randomly decides to crash midgame?
At least make it so you don't get a penalty if you send a crash report.
There is no way this couldn’t be abused. People will find easy ways to make it look like a crash and DC from any match they want. Also, keep in mind that you don’t get a DC penalty for an occasional crash. That’s why you get a freebie for your first one. So, if you are getting timeout penalties, either you are disconnecting on purpose from other matches or you have unresolved system issues that you need to fix before you play the game. Even if you are not intentionally disconnecting, you’re still ruining other people’s matches if you have stability issues and the DC penalty system is intended to get you to fix your issues before playing again.

It’s clear that I’m never going to convince you that bullying in real life and someone trying to eliminate you in an online PvP game where eliminating you is literally their objective are not the same thing. I can’t control your perception of things, but I can tell you with certainty that if you perceive this as “bullying” then it will be impossible for you to ever enjoy an online PvP game.

Perhaps you should read the definition of cyberbullying.
I would actually really love to see you sitting at a table with three of your friends eating lunch and a bully walk up and take your food away from you while your three friends get to eat in peace. You sit there without food watching them eat for the rest of the time.
You can't do anything or fight back to the bully whatsoever.
Then, you will understand exactly how it feels.
Ok see the thing is there is a massive difference between someone doing that to you while you are minding your own business and you choosing to actively engage in a PvP video game where literally the only objective of your opponent is to eliminate you from the game. In DbD, you are not entitled to “eat your lunch in peace and quiet”. If you truly believe that, then you have wildly misguided expectations for online PvP gaming.

Sorry but you are wrong. Killer is playing the game in all instances. When you tunnel a survivor at 5 gens they do not even get to play the game. That's wrong, bad ethics because you as the killer is abusing a game to cyberbully another person in a video game. Doesn't matter if the devs say it's not bannable. It just means they are the enabler of bad ethics in a game.
Stop calling it “cyberbullying”. Tunneling is not cyberbullying, not even close, and comparing that to tunneling in a PvP game is making light of a very serious issue.

Literally any video game. If you single a person out and grief the person, that's bannable. You prevented them from playing the game. You could even argue it's cyberbullying.
Tunneling and griefing are not the same thing. Griefing is sabotaging your own team on purpose or making it so they can’t play (e.g. bodyblocking). Griefing is specifically mentioned as bannable in DbD and I’m sure other games as well. Tunneling is when you single out an opponent, which is not bannable in DbD or any other game that I am aware of. If you can find a single example of any game where the rules specifically prohibit tunneling (not griefing - again, those are not the same thing), please post that example here.

Not to mention even if you play both you're still likely to have a bias.
Example:
Killer mains that play both but when they play survivor they don't play to win and fool around and die quick.
Same people come to the forums and say they play both and don't see why anyone would complain about the state of survivor.I agree that some (maybe most?) players who play both sides are at least partially biased in favor of one side or the other. But I don’t think it can be argued that if you only play one side that somehow you can be more unbiased about balance than players who play at least some of both sides. If you have never played one side, how can you possibly understand how balance changes negatively impact the experience of players who play that side?

People only try to use this "if you dont play both sides youre biased" as a strawman argument if they have absolute no legal argument to go with.
How is this a “strawman”? A strawman is when you misrepresent another person’s position to make it easier to attack. I didn’t refer to anyone else’s position - I stated my own position that players who play both sides have a more unbiased view of balance than players who only play killer or only play survivor. I’ll stand by that all day long. If you want to try to convince people that one-sided players are more unbiased about balance than people who play both sides, then go ahead and present your argument.

you cant seriously believe that or are you just trolling?
I don’t think it’s trolling. There are people who genuinely believe that the side they don’t play is overpowered no matter what - you see it on both killer and survivor side on this forum. People are free to not play killer/survivor if they don’t want to, but if you don’t play both sides then you are going to have a very biased view about game balance.
-
It’s a really good question. You have to wonder at what point the game becomes way too overwhelming for new players (I think it already is), and how long the game can be sustained by a dedicated veteran core. People thought this game was going to die a long time ago, so it has proven a lot more resilient than most expected.
My personal opinion - I think their plan is to just continue on the same path because it has been a winning formula for so long. But BHVR better have something else big in theirs plans for the long term to pivot to if/when they run out of ways to keep people engaged with the current version of DbD
-
BHVR actively avoid releasing any interesting or useful data. Although I don’t like it, I understand why. It will likely result in endless debate and criticism from the community when people see what the numbers actually are for certain killers, maps, etc. Very rarely we will get the kill rates for a few top killers, which is about as interesting as it gets. Most of the time the only data they release are things like “number of blood points earned by player base” which literally nobody has been asking to know.
-
@mecca said:
They pretended to fix it but killers cried their eyes out. Killer fun has always been priority. It's ok the killer plays the game all the time, nobody cares about the survivor.
People who play both sides like myself care about both killer and survivor experience. I think the likely explanation is that the devs are taking a largely hands-off approach to the game at the moment, I wouldn't be shocked if most of their dev labor is being focused on the big update (I know they said they have a separate team, but how separate is it really?)
If we don't get a large balance update this month, I think that will cement it for me.What kind of balance update are you hoping for?
-
I agree most perks are terrible - that’s why there is such a stale meta on both sides. But there are so many perks now that BHVR is never going touch most of them ever again. There is an ever-growing mountain of old content that they don’t have the resources to maintain, so the problem is only going to get worse.
