Just for the sake of content, if anyone cares to read this and abide by the rules, I'll play Plague with Plaything, Pentimento, Blood Favor (Seriously awesome perk on her), and Blood Echo tonight. Maybe only get like, 1 person a drink tonight, and that's a BIG maybe... but at least I'll have done my part.

TBH, I've been wanting to try Pentimento on her anyways, so here's hoping it's as good as I hope.

Drop Blood Echo for Retribution or Devour if you have it. Very powerful for a Penti game.

For those of you who didn't know about this Pig add-on, Amanda's Letter before the nerf gave you 12 meters of aura reading while crouched, kinda like All-Seeing Blood, but it took away 2 head traps from you as a downside. Why does this feel-good yet ultimately mediocre effect have such a huuuge downside? But that's not the best part!

When the add-on pass happened and she got a bunch of her add-ons changed, they NERFED this add-on so that it took away 3* of your bear traps, I kid you not! Sure, she now has 16 meters of aura reading with this add-on, but 1 head trap, seriously?! And you still have to crouch to get use out of this.

Crouching isn't even that useful. You have to run 2 crouch add-ons in conjunction before you even thinking about using it, because otherwise you'd be shooting yourself in the foot. Because her base crouch didn't get buffed at all, we still have to use add-ons to MAKE UP for how bad her crouch is.

So these types of add-ons for Pig tell me one thing: You either focus on having good head traps or focus on getting a better crouch, because I don't need to tell you twice, you sure ain't getting both. It is the bag dilemma with Trapper all over again. The Windstorm dilemma with Wraith all over again.

I would at least expect that this add-on doesn't get a downside because you're having to crouch, which is leagues worse than Wraith with All-Seeing because you're actually fast with that. But no, we get another awful pink add-on that has massive downsides for no good reason.

There are several addons that are just 'what?' levels of bad.

Pig has a disproportionately large number of these. I sometimes wonder if the devs just intend for her to be a meme killer forever.

  • Then I'm having wretched luck, because basically every one of my groups over the last two days has been BM as hell, with three especially nasty TTV premades, two of whom stalled the game out to meme at the final gen.

Making the maps smaller will only work if that necessarily forces more Survivors to budge their butts when a chase forcibly comes near them.

Smaller maps are a component of it, but they're not necessarily the entirety of the fix for "actually be able to pressure Survivors off gens and interrupt their objective".

    It's not map size.

It's density. Structures, complexity and nearness of loops, safeness of gens, hiding spots, fields of vision, hook spawns etc.

Grim Pantry and Badham are pretty small, but horrible for killers. Autohaven and Red Forest are enormous, but have some maps that are decent for killer.

  • @Thunderfrog said:

I've been burning through them all lately. As a twins main, the new level sucks ass. Once someone goes upstairs, its hard as hell to run them down through the safe pallets up there.

For the new structure - get the 'god pallet' out ASAP. Also maybe break the walls in passing. The new map...yeah, I can imagine it would be bloody annoying on some killers (poor Trapper...).

    As for map offerings:

    • Yamaoka is my absolute favorite map. It's balanced, looks and feels amazing and I'm never unhappy to play on it.
    • Midwich is another one that feels fairly balanced, although some of the pallets in the main 'yard' are a bit oppressive. I just love it atmospherically, so I'll sometimes play it.
    • DDS is a blast if I just want to get a win or try out a build.

I'd rather eat my own feet than play on The Game, Haddonfield, RPD or Cowshed again.

  • @RiskyKara said:

Now to start, I don't actually have 4 friends who play DBD, get along, and are decent at the game all at the same time. Regardless I wanted to put thought into this hypothetical. I wanted to work on a team build that was just 'Be as obnoxious as possible to the killer.'

This build I have for solo's is a flashlight, head on, blast mine, saboteur, and iron will. Sure it's not very meta, and I can probably do something else with iron will. The entire idea was to be as annoying to the killer as humanly possible. Sure they'll probably win because to make any use out of this build I'm not really on gens, but I wanted to make it as much of a headache as possible. Everytime I get any success with it though, with head on, a sabo or a flashlight save I end up getting tunneled hard.

So with that in mind. For a 4-man swf what would you consider the most annoying 16 perks, 4 items, and 4 offerings you can think of. Something that may not necessarily be meta or even conductive towards winning cleanly, but something that would really make it a pain for the killer to get anything done.

    It depends.

    Powerful?

Two fat toolboxes with two Brand New Parts, Built to Last, Prove Thyself, one Spinechill and standard meta loadouts. Two fat medkits. CoH+Overcome.

It's possible to pop 1 gen within 14 seconds, 2 gens within 30 seconds and 3 gens before the killer even finds anyone. It's basically an 'I Win' button on some maps.

    Annoying?

Had a game this morning against a TTV SWF who brought two CoH/Overcome/Exponential loadouts, 2 flashlights and two sabo toolboxes. At the final gen, they just 99'd it and spent 30 minutes teabagging/flicking me, and the second I downed someone they'd sabo any hooks I went for, bodyblocked constantly and thanks to Exponential, there was no way for me to really slug. Eventually I just AFKed out and it took them 10 minutes more to realize that I wasn't going to let them continue to bully. I got told I was being reported for 'non participation' and cussed out in Russian and English in postgame.

    Yeah, that was pretty annoying.

This is the third match in a row. And as they are low in rang an run little yellow perks, I must assume they play via EPIC as they were able to share their thoughts in chat.

They missed EVERY skillcheck with me on the gen. They left me hanging and dying on my first hook because I bodyblocked the hook for another teammate.

I am by far no S-Tier survivor. But this sucks. As a regular PS5 Player I did not disable Crossplay as I don't think that All of them "suck" as I often hear in Livestreams or read in multiple discussions.

But this is it. Congrats BHVR - ggwp....

EDIT: PLAYED MY FIRST MATCH WITHOUT CROSSPLAY - 3 ESCAPES ON THE NEW MAP. KILLER WAS A HUNTRESS.... 25K BP EACH. FEELS MUCH BETTER!

    What...what even happened that game?

Nobody got much BP at all.

  • @Shroompy said:

  • @UMCorian said:

IMHO: This is the biggest problem with playing Killer at most levels of DBD - if you don't 3 or 4K, the game feels like you lost.

Take Survivor, you can still objectively have a fun, rewarding experience even if the killer 3Ks. Hell, sometimes even dying to insure the killer only 3Ks is still a fun, rewarding experience.

Imagine how bad this game would feel like as a Survivor, if even if you escaped, you felt like it was a loss unless everyone also escaped?

Yet, playing killer, failing to kill 2... and watching the survivors teabag you in the gate until you eventually escort them on their way feels like a loss.

Whether this is a community created perception image or something the game somehow cultivates, I think everything would get better if they found a way to fix this... because right now the Devs balance the game around 2 kills, 2 escape. Because of that, they're always going to seem to be against killers... because the very nature of their game design is to balance the killer around having a game that's perceived (by the community) to be a loss.

The game needs to feel better for a killer who only gets 2 kills... if this is how the Devs want to balance it.

Honestly, I actually feel a little bad if I do 4k. I'll almost always try to give the last survivor the hatch and if it's been a really fun game/someone's DCed, I'll probably give 2 the gate.

    I don't mind losing either.

What gets under my skin is the 4outs where I had almost zero chance because the enemy team was so much more experienced/coordinated than me or where people are gloating/teabagging.

  • @Pizzasauce said:

...what are some things you wish you could have said to a particular killer or survivor in a match, but didn't. Either, you thought better of it, or they didn't have the right platform. I'll start!

    Dear Mr. Killer Man:

Dropping me repeatedly on a closed hatch is not going to make it open. I need a key. I'm not sure what your game plan was there. Maybe I was too dumb to figure it out.

    Yours Truly,

    Confused Dead Survivor

Dear Meg and Ash: Playing hide and seek and stalling the entire match out because you gave me a 3gen is classless and lame.

Dear Russian TTV premade from this morning: I hope someone puts anchovies on your next pizza. Stalling the game out to endlessly sabo, teabag, flicky flicky and bodyblock for your viewers...there's something wrong with you.

Dear Dwight from my last game: I was trying to give you and your chum the gate after the Nea DC'd, but you wouldn't take the hint despite me basically carrying you to the final gen and hitting it repeatedly. I wasn't trying to be BM. Also - shake the crows off next time. I can see them and down you from across the map.

Dear survivors in general: teabagging is weaksauce after I did everything in my power to make the game fun for us both. Keep in mind that while I can't do anything about it, the next groups I face will likely suffer for it - and if we see each other again...boy are you in for a surprise.

  • Both were extremely good killers that needed a minor adjustment to some addons.

Instead they got their addons gutted, their kits nerfed hard and just being...crap to play.

  • @Unicorn said:

I've sat in Exit Gates & waited and still Killers won't walk in and hit me.

Sometimes they avoid the exit in general, I guess because they assume they're going to be teabagged but can you blame them?

Either way, some of us are still here & willing to give you a whole kill if need be. Don't get discouraged.

I think you may actually be a unicorn IRL - because I've seen this happen twice in my entire time playing DbD.

Mostly I won't go into the exit gates because I won't give survivors the satisfaction.

What I will do is wait just around the corner and pretend to be AFK (while charging a Shred or putting down some Hag traps). Sometimes the teabaggers are so desperate for attention that they'll run out and get a surprise...

A spot where you litterly cant get to a hooked survivor. Werent basement entrances in some maps changed just for this reason. but then you put this on this map..

There are a few bits like this in other maps (Badham Basement spawns can have this too) - avoid going down in this area. The central structure has one god pallet and tons of LOS/vaults/safe drops, so this is at least a risk you run when you go in there.

    M2? It's a myth, it doesn't exist.

Seriously, I played a few games today and I realised... even though I've gotten pretty good at landing chains, I'm barely trying. I think I got one hit off of them. The entire rest of the time, at most it was the threat of chains that was doing more than any actual anti-loop ability they might have had.

Pair this with using the Chatterer's Tooth as an info/stealth perk (with iri box to have it lying around more often) and it seems like Pinhead's most effective playstyle is... to not actually use his chains or powers at all. This, I would have to say, feels completely backwards to how a killer should be designed.

    A few tricks:

    • Chains can be weak indoors, but they are very solid in loops. Tag someone as they vault or drop a pallet and it'll often give you a free hit.
    • Fang is still an ungodly strong addon, combine it with the lens or the nail.
    • Chains are incredible for interrupting the box, and can lead to an easier chase to obtain it yourself.
    • Chained hits (Euphoric Suffering) give oodles of BP, making him about on par with Doctor for BP farming.

Ceno definitely needs some love in his kit, but he's far from Clown or Pig tier.

  • @Pulsar said:

It's large, has awful deadzones and a way too strong main building.

It's basically just Temple of Purgation 2.0

I'm a ...fan. The main structure is a bit of a turd (seriously, stop it with the breakable walls already) but the loops aren't overly oppressive aside from one very strong pallet and it's got a nice balance of open zones for sniping and chokes for traps.

Aside from the main structure, the only thing I hate is how impossible it is to hide traps.

Oh - and if you really want to be a jerk, bring a 'thicker mist' addon...you'll see what I mean.

    It's frigging gorgeous too.

  • @Cabbage said:

Curious to see, which killer is everyone’s favourite to verse. Mine is demo because he is the goodest of boys, but also provides an actual opportunity to loop and doesn’t completely shut down the ability to have decent chase, whilst still maintaining the high possibility of downing you at certain loops that would be harder for other killers.

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/ACX3XYVJS215/f5b022a5-c47f-4e31-ae9f-5c22119f8b77.gif

    Demo...you wouldn't think it.

He's maybe the #1 killer that seems to bait survivors into being insanely toxic.

For me, I really enjoy facing Cenobite (RIP, haven't seen him once since the nerfs), Hag (it's so different and rare), Artist (tons of room to outplay and be outplayed, plus I love her audio design), Wraith (usually a pretty easy win, poor Wraith) and Plague. I've never faced a Demo.

Mostly killers I'm intimately familiar with understand their kit.

  • @Unicorn said:

If I wanted to get hammered, I'd play 'take a shot every time a survivor teabags you in the exit gates'.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/297849/how-does-your-perfect-dbd-look-like

Dbd would be perfect for me if there were no exhaustion perks, neither noed.

Basically bailout perks, to be able to get 1/2 kills with noed and extend chases by a lot because of a perk.

I'm totally fine with Ex perks - but Dead Hard is too much right now and basically functions as a near permanent third health state unless you horribly misplay.

  • @IsMmrReal said:

They dont even give you the hit at the exit anymore. They are so cheap they cant even spare that. Wow!!

    I've never seen this much.

Mostly, if they are sticking around, it's to teabag you and flicky flicky to be jerks. At the most charitable, they are hanging around in case one of their friends wants to be a jerk and gets snagged.

  • @beatddb said:

Personally, I would love if escaping as a survivor was more rare and only happened in situations of extreme teamwork coordination (I don't care about dying as long as I get a few fun chases), the maps were darker like before , there was more blood and better sound for tracking and less powerful perks. More emphasis on stealth instead of having everyone running around and less aura-reading perks.

    What about you?

    Mm.

    • A comprehensive Code of Behavior (lul) that all players have to agree to, much like the Summoner Code in LoL.
    • Stricter moderation to at least tamp down the rampant toxicity in this community. I'm honestly one or two bad games away from just taking a break.
    • An 'endorsement' system, where killers can give a 'thumbs up' to fun and non-toxic survivors (and vice versa) to reward them with some BP and maybe a minor cosmetic reward at certain breakpoints.
    • A significant balance pass to bring all killers up to 'A' tier, including addons.
    • A robust system of emotes and pings for solo survivors.
    • Baseline Borrowed Time and the BP gains of WGLF on all survivors (note: the former would come after the substantial buff to the majority of killers).
    • Baseline Deerstalker and the BP gains of BBQ on all killers.
    • Monthly 'design a perk'/'design a killer'/'design a skin' contests with the winners being implemented into the game at a later date.
    • SBMM tightened up significantly to prevent smurfing and to ensure more even matches for both sides. No more throwing 280 hour killers into 10,000 hour monster squads because they had a long queue.
    • SBMM improved substantially for survivors, increasing off more than just escapes.
    • Dailies made much more rewarding and giving players a choice of 3 whenever the cooldown is up.
    • Weekly events and bloodhunts.

  • @brokedownpalace said:

Even though it's a yellow perk and there are 2 purples sitting there for the taking?

I really wish we could move on from this aspect of the bloodweb. We should be able to always guarantee the 2 perks we really want and maybe even with the chance of getting a third.

It's becoming increasingly frustrating to play new characters. I really like Jonah and want to main him for a while but I can't even get ######### Kindred.

Another idea I had is that all characters have the generic perks unlocked at tier 3 to start

My record is almost 4 million BP to unlock the perk I wanted on the killer I wanted (Tinkerer, on Plague). I think I have literally everything unlocked on her now and an...unhealthy amount of addons.

Why would you hold W against a ranged character.....bruh she will just shoot you through a wall....

By the time she's lined up her shot, you should have the swarm almost gone (if she set it up instantly) - and it's still generally faster to just M1 you.

That's how she often feels to me against teams that know how to handle her. An M1 killer with some mild information gathering and the very occasional lucky shot.

...I don't get it. Nothing changes if nothing is tried, ergo, this thread is petitioning for something to be tried and brainstorming what that may be while positing a few initial suggestions so that it's not just empty platitudes. There's a difference between whining about the state of the game and going "this sucks; maybe we could try A, B, or C to mitigate this."

Like I do see your point, but in the same breath I don't think it applies here. Again, I've been in plenty of other PVP games that managed to have better communities than this, and a few that didn't, and my lifespan in the well-mannered ones lasted way longer than the unpleasant ones. Just because a problem can never entirely be excised doesn't mean it can't or shouldn't be treated. To go back to your law analogy, you'll never get rid of criminals, but you can reduce criminal activity through a mix of accurately hunting down perpetrators when crimes are committed, harsh punishments for being caught, and mindful economic reform/welfare to address high-risk populations before they get desperate enough to commit crimes. Or you can just go 'lol anarchy, can't deal with human nature' and shrug whenever crimes happen. I'm not saying getting tbagged is akin to criminal activity, but I am saying that combining a lack of punishment, a lack of accountability, and an already bad environment breeds bad behavior like crazy.

    Bingo.

I mean, aside from LoL, my best example would be WoW versus Final Fantasy.

WoW has a...pretty meh reputation right now, in part due to it's incredibly elitist, 'go go go' playerbase. It's not the only issue it has, but it's a big part of why people get frustrated. If you aren't part of a great guild, the game can be outright obnoxious.

On the other hand, people are flocking to FF due to it's genuinely friendly, funny and close-knit community. I can attest to this too. It was so refreshing to go from tanking in WoW to tanking in FF, because people aren't constantly acting like bags of armpits because you took a different route through a Mythic dungeon than the one they are used to.

    hello,

or as Mandy has already written in another post on another topic

"And as nobody knows what MMR level they are at...I would suggest not focusing on what MMR you think you play at, and just focus on finding your enjoyment in the matches."

Whether this sentence deserves its own contribution? Absolutely, because there is no better way to argue something like this. It just goes down like oil and is really good in light of all the negative things you've read about MMR lately. If only we could start thinking like this, we'd all have a lot more fun with Dead by Daylight. Thanks Mandy

What do you think about it ?

    Greetings

It's easy to say and nearly impossible to execute.

For example, last night I had a string of TTV premades that I had absolutely no chance against and who made absolutely sure I knew how much I sucked by sitting in the exit gates flicking their flashlights and being jerks in postgame.

I go to bed, wake up and encounter another TTV premade who basically stall the game out at 1 gen remaining - just sabos/bodyblocks/heals and otherwise just runs around me teabagging. After 30 minutes I go AFK, and get told that I'm being reported for 'non participation' in postgame.

Right now, there seems to be a huge lack of killers at high MMRs, meaning that once a 4man waits for a few minutes I'll get thrown to them as a snack. Best of all, as per the developer comments yesterday, this doesn't decrease my MMR - so it can happen again and again and again.

I'm not sure how I'm supposed to extract fun from that.

It's not an issue of being too pc or not. It's a matter of learning to handle your problems by yourself and not expecting constant hand holding. If the devs won't punish people for their rude actions, you should do what you can to handle it yourself instead of just complaining. Complaints without action do not solve anything at all.

Again, I agree that it shouldn't be a thing. As a player, you shouldn't have to ignore things being spewed at you from dickish players. But the fact is, as it stands, they aren't being punished, so take care of the situation yourself instead

The second someone starts using the 'lol triggered' or 'get off the internet if you don't like toxicity' type tag-phrases, I immediately see culture-war crap and sigh.

I've taken the actions I can.

However, you can't just make yourself numb (I honestly think that's unhealthy) or immune to people being jerks, and - yeah. Take a look at my post earlier regarding my first match of the day. Survivors stall game out to be jerks, you can either just feed into it or AFK and get reported for not participating. How do you avoid that without just not playing?

All I can do is try to get the developers to at least dialogue with the playerbase on this stuff and see if we can't find a way of decreasing it. Because I'm very much at the end of my rope and it won't take more than a few more incidents like this before I just quit in frustration.

Sometimes the community you get is the community you deserve.

Laws are upheld and people are punished. I've never said being a dick shouldn't be punished. Just that since it's not, you need to handle it yourself

Yeah, you kind of are. You are shifting the blame from the jerks to the people who are getting frustrated with the jerks. You can't have it both ways - either people just need to become numb and disconnected so that the jerks can do their thing, or steps need to be taken to encourage the jerks not to be jerks.

    @Fuzzels said:

Nothing changes if nothing is tried.

    Ok. Sure.

But the same can be said of doing the same thing over and over And expecting something to change. IE telling people that being rude isn't nice, coming to the forums to complain, and then going back to the game to do it all again.

Like, I'm literally trying to tell you to do something different to change the situation. You said it yourself, no matter what people are going to express some form of harassment. So instead of just complaining about every little thing that bothers you, ignore it and move on with you life because you will never have a solid solution otherwise

Laluzi is correct on this. There are multiple ways to approach this problem.

Apathy is the enemy of solutions.

The thing is - nobody is telling people that being rude isn't nice. Again, in League of Legends, the vast majority of toxic players reformed the second they got a warning notification saying 'you've been reported a bunch recently, please keep an eye on your behavior'.

Also - it's amusing how often you are resorting to strawmanning and ad-homs here. 'You'll never eliminate people being jerks online' doesn't mean 'you shouldn't try to reduce toxicity'.

    @lordfart said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2672111#Comment_2672111

The same thing really CAN NOT be said for slurs and mental torture lmao. How can you even compare the two, you ever been on the receiving end of those? Abuse and harassment is such a far cry from repeatedly crouching or clicking a flashlight, it's not even funny. You wanna ban killers for hitting survivors on hook too?

No. Don't strawman, I've been pretty clear on what I'm suggesting.

    @lordfart said:

I like the idea of the rewards system. But the ultimate solution to this unfortunately is to just grow a thicker skin online. Sounds harsh I know, but it's just a game and you have power to not take it personally

That's...not how people work (or should work). What you are describing is disconnection, which is another step on the road towards becoming numb and apathetic, or simply losing passion for whatever it is that you are doing.

Thing is - I have a pretty thick skin. That doesn't stop it from just wearing away at you over time, when it feels like you played a match out fairly and in a manner designed to be fun for both sides, and then get BMed for it. Over and over and over again.

Im glad we finally got a new killer that can compete on high mmr.

Build is use: Hex plaything, Hex: pentimento, scourged hook: Pain resonance and Tinkerer. Its very powerfull with a decent amount of map/tile knowledge.

Not only is this build amazing or her abilitie to counter loops easily, but we can finally play the game without the perks (like ruin/pop/etc) that have been dominating for a while.

    Plz BHVR, dont nerf her!

    S rank?

    I don't think so.

Right now, a lot of people get scared when they get swarmed - but all they need to do is repel immediately and you have maybe a second to land a second crow strike if you start setting up the second you can.

She can shut down loops - but we are past the era of hard looping and now it's just a matter of running to the next tile.

She reminds me a lot of pre-rework Plague, everything she does causes a hitch and it's incredibly clunky. She's decent in 1v1 chases, but I've found that (like pre-rework Plague and modern Trickster and Slinger) she can spend so long downing and hooking that people can just smash out gens.

Penti is okay, but requires Plaything and a team that doesn't just ignore Plaything (voicecomes make it do almost nothing) or boon the totems (any team that is paying even loose attention will know exactly where Penti went up).

Pain Resonance is pretty solid though. I get a lot of use out of it on Hag.

Play leigon, frenzy like he'll for bloodpoints for 3 or 4 matches straight focusing on deep wound and points not kills.

That way, your grind out tons of points per match, and derank in MMR

It's a win win situation. After you derank then you can play killers you enjoy more and have less bullying.

Well, I suppose you could smurf your Legion MMR down this way. But then you have to play Legion.

Plus...smurfing absolutely kills games. I really don't enjoy doing it.

Actually I hard disagree about this. A good chunk of my win streaks as a Killer are at day time. Night time is basically where Navy seals are awake.

    *Edit

Which isn't surprising since a lot of my Friends do in fact play at Night after coming back from work lol

Morning = crazy Spanish, Chinese and Russian premades.

    Night = navy seal types.

The issue is that MMR is creating a perpetual chain of stomps for some people, as when you become a 'snack' killer, you don't lose MMR.

I mean this is a match recorded on peak hours where the Survivor queues are instant at daytime.... I played alone afterwards and the difference in killers are night and day. I was actually thinking that Ruin and Undying is steadily getting less usage but it turns out people still use it all the time when I'm alone.

I do get that matchmaking just throws around anyone if the queues are long though it's something I theorized about and I guess that's confirmed now.

I see this crap at peak more - as there are more survivors queued at high MMR, more dodges and just not enough killers to go around.

We all know, it’s not a 4 man meta deathsquad .. if you win.

I should really start clipping my postgame screens, because I get a lot of '4 man meta deathsquads'. I can sometimes give them a decent game on Hag, but any other killer I get rocked.

The most annoying thing, as per the MMR responses yesterday - you don't lose any MMR for these 'sacrificial' matches, so it's entirely possible to get them multiple times in a row.

  • @Myla said:

    Just something I noticed.

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/LP8VI0JKAKTF/image.png

I thought they fixed this like a year ago where the matchmaking would prioritize the highest ranked in the party or in this case the highest MMR? Is it broken again?

The killer was new to the game and shouldn't be getting into this type of matches. Had like 100 below hours.

This isn't an isolated case as well. It's something very obvious when I'm playing alone I get competent killers but when I play with somebody the amount of baby killers is just unreal. If you can't confirmed their hours on their steam profile they usually have incomplete builds like this one and also not attempting any form of mind game.

One of the devs responded in my MMR thread yesterday and explained this.

Basically what happens is that a super high MMR party waits for a long time in queue, people dodge them and eventually it'll just throw them essentially the next killer around as a sort of snack.

There are also definitely SWFs that smurf their ratings down (I'm sure everyone has encountered the groups that immediately run to you and suicide on hook).

It...sucks, especially as these SWFs tend to be the absolute most abusive types. I literally just had one who 99% the final gen and refused to end, instead wanting to show off their bodyblocking/sabo skills and how strong medkits+COH are for 30 soul-crushing minutes until I finally gave up and AFKed, after which they informed me that they were reporting me for 'non-participation'.

I'd love to know how many new killers run into this crap and just never return to the game.

If you red my ticket, I wrote similar thing.

Devs should focus on behavior and community. This current situation is common mistake. Management think, that only way how to get more money and more players is content. Such a ridiculous mistake. Happy player is paying player.

I wanted to buy the last dlc, but the last games are so annoying that I prefer to save points. I know several players who stopped playing DBD because of game experience.

and solution is simple. Reward for fair play and nice behavior. Respect reports. Punnish fake reports. That will make balance.

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/APOGQ9ND5KTK/obrazek.png

This was my first game of the morning:

    • 3 TTV streamers and a 4th rando in a group together. Maybe 7000 hours between them. So much better than me that I can't do squat.
    • 2 fat medkits and 2 sabo toolboxes.
    • Incredible coordination - bodyblocking, always rotating people onto gens if I chase someone off. 4 gens are done in less than 5 minutes.
    • They keep the final gen at 99% forever.
    • Instead, they run around me teabagging until I chase, upon which everyone starts bodyblocking.
    • If I down someone, they just sabo and bodyblock endlessly until I drop the person. Perfect coordination and nearly instant healing thanks to two juicy medkits combined with COH, Exponential and Overcome, so the second I slug someone or drop them, they are back up.
    • Literally cannot hook, kill or really do anything.
    • This goes on for over 30 minutes. They aren't doing the gens, they are just preventing me from hooking anyone and memeing on stream. I think I got 2 hooks total.
    • I finally go AFK.
    • After another 15 minutes they realize I'm not playing anymore, the game ends and I get told I'm being reported for 'non-participation' by all 4.

I have no idea what can be done about this community, but I can only imagine a new player trying killer and running into this. It's the sort of thing that makes you never want to come back.

    @dictep said:

Killers less toxic than survs? Do you really think tbag at the end of the match is worse than camp and tunnel you to death??

One is a playstyle that's virtually necessary for certain killers (camping) and 'tunneling' is literally just playing the game right. If you have 4 survivors alive at 1 gen left, you've already lost.

One is just being a gloating bucket of anuses.

    @lordfart said:

I like the idea of the rewards system. But the ultimate solution to this unfortunately is to just grow a thicker skin online. Sounds harsh I know, but it's just a game and you have power to not take it personally

I've got a pretty thick skin in general, but nobody has a skin that thick.

It still wears on you over time. Either you just get numb to it (not good) or start playing sweaty and mean to avoid it (not good either).

  • @SunsetSherbet said:

Only had a few matches on the PTB. On live, My opinion after quite a few matches with her is that she feels clunky. I liken it to playing in 500 ping lag or something. There's a delay to summon the crows, a block on summoning near a hook, a delay to place them all, a delay to fire, a travel time. All of this lends to her power feeling clunky to me as everything feels "slow" and delayed. I hook someone and I have to walk far away from the hook to even use my power. I place down birds and need to hard read since the act of summon mode+put crows down+fire takes so much time. I don't find her weak, I just don't find it very good design and feel she needs to be streamlined because as is it feels slow. It sucks that I can place crows and get through like 50 mashes of my ctrl key before they'll actually fire. There has to be a better way to bake in cooldowns on her without making her power feel unresponsive. I don't really enjoy lag and I sure don't like it when the effect of what lag does is basically baked into the character as a feature of her power or something. I don't think she is weak or needs nerfs and so far I don't think she needs buffs either. She just needs to feel smoother to play. Quality of life improvements needed big time.

'Clunky' is a good way to describe her - she reminds me a lot of pre-rework Plague.

Everything she does causes a hitch in her movement and she's really easy to just hold W against. She's great until people realize that repelling crows immediately basically negates her entire kit and she turns into another M1 killer.

Yes and no. It still works out. Spend a lot of time booning active totems then.

Also the play to go to is only keep one token active and leave the rest broken(you can keep the healing speed/etc) Once they boon your pentimento totem. You rekindle a other one. Usually multiple totems will be broken before they notice your pentimento.

Or they leave plaything up. Which is a win too.

Yeah I was running Plaything+Retribution+Penti for a good while. It works well against people who don't know what to do. Against premades, Plaything doesn't do much (it's basically hard countered by voicecoms) and if they want to get rid of it, they just call in someone to boon it.

I find it to be a huge investment for somewhat minimal gains - Ruin, PR and Pop are much more effective for the cost of 1 perk slot.

  • @Thunderfrog said:

I DO think it sucks to be a killer these days. As a killer main, I don't think its soooo terrible, but there's a few things that could help even things out between the sides without messing up perks too much.

    1. Don't allow end gate progress. Make it like bones, where its either opened all the way or progress is lost. I think it will make the end game timer more important, and it will mean fewer 4-escapes and more draws. This would also mean killers can't complain about DS -> out the door in endgame. They didn't defend the gate, they didn't chase out the allies, they can't complain about the DS.
    2. Get rid of snuffing boons. Instead, make them active for 30/60/90 seconds, then they fizzle the totem. Make them instant set up, unless there's a hex. Add a totem finder into boon perks. Make a series of add-ons that strengthens or modifies boons. They are now part of the game, they need proper balancing and treatment. This change makes boons a tactical addition. If you know you are working in an area, set the boon up and get back to work.
    3. Add BBQChili's BP and WGLF's BP effects into the base game. Free up those perks to be buffed or modified. Killers wont have to waste a slot for BP and survivors wont have to get yeet-unhooked by people wanting stacks.
    4. Killers need a base speed buff during EGC.

    1 - Sure.

2 - Just make snuffing a boon destroy that totem and put boons on cooldown for 40 seconds or something.

3 - Yes. Absolutely. I've been suggesting this for yonks. I'm so tired of having to choose between build variety or double BP.

    4 - Eh...

    I'd say:

    • Buff underused or weaker killers.
    • Rework more maps.
    • Remove Dead Hard i-frames.
    • Make Deerstalker and Bloodhound baseline (this would be a huge QOL increase and would really help new killers).
    • Tighten up MMR so that killers aren't constantly being thrown up against groups with a much higher MMR than them.

I'm also learning her, and my initial impression is that once people know how to play against her (just repel crows immediately) she really struggles. She has the Trickster problem of being decent 1v1 but chases taking a long time and by the time you've downed and hooked 2 gens have popped.

I just discovered last night that the synergy between Hex:Plaything and Hex:Pentimento is immense. I'm freakin constantly encouraging the survivors to break totems, then I rekindle them for Pentimento stacks. I ran it about 3-4 times last night and 3 of those matches were 4k. The totem side objective becomes seemingly endless for these survivors if you can juggle it well 😈😈

-edit: I forgot to mention that I intend to test this synergy on Pinhead. I can imagine that this feeling of endless side objectives will be devastating as Pinhead since the chain hunt will always be counting down or interrupting the cleanse process.

It works until they figure out what's going on, and just boon the Plaything totems.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/297682/on-survivor-toxicity-is-there-a-solution

I told you in that other thread a lot of immature kids and teens play DBD. It’s a video game so us adults are usually the minority. Do yourself a favor and look at the profiles of players who are toxic- you will see a trend of indicators pointing to them being minors. It’s not always the case I know- but we have to start taking children into consideration whenever you see a lot of bad behavior. Watch when VHS comes out- you’ll hear all the kids on the mic in nearly every game. F13 was the most graphic & goriest Asymmetrical Horror Game and it had waaaayyyy too many kids in there ragequitting, teabagging, cheating, glitching, team killing, cursing you on the mic, screaming, making noise, etc. etc.

    Yup.

Thing is (and this may be a bit of a controversial take) - letting kids run wild on the internet and extract joy from making strangers miserable isn't good for them developmentally. I know that if I acted like that in the arcades, I'd be looking for my teeth.

As we can't build something into PCs and consoles to give the little gits a bit of a smack, it falls to the developers to help with this.

  • @Fuzzels said:

You could just like.. load into a match and stare at a corner for 5 mins. Let all 4 survs escape. Do this for an hour or so, and bam your mmr is lowered to a more fun level.

Not that I'm condoning going afk for no reason other than to lower your mmr.. it's kind of a lame thing to do, but it would be a semi solution for you at least.

Please, bloody hell, don't do this.

Technically if enough people report you for non-participation, you might eat a ban for botting. There are a few unverified stories of this out in the wild. And smurfing is a damn plague in games like this, I already run into at least 1 smurfing TTV stompcomp every two or three days.

A better bet is to set you own goals in the match. Try to hook everyone at least once, then just practice chasing etc. At least they'll get some BP.

Gaming in general has changed alot.

Im a older gamer i guess, (37) I played alot of online gaming when dialup was the normal. I also played World of Warcraft in Vanilla, and was hyped when i heard "classic" was coming. I thought great the old community will be back, you'll know people you play with and recognise those names.

I played classic and just felt it very hostile, people were doing their best to skip content to get to the end game goal. They would afk farm, virtual currency, experience, items, Anything to get a easy advantage.

One just has to look at gaming now days, alot of games have pay to win models and lootboxes, which helps satisfy the mentality of having everything "now".

People don't like to spend time earning anything and with it comes a culture of toxciity, unless you're in the mainstream of "getting rich quick"

And doing whatever is nessecary to achieve that you're on the outer, and the same translates to DbD, People want/need instant gratifcation and the easiet way to do that is to use every meta and rule "bending" to do so.

    Games haven't changed people have.

I think we are in the same boat (give or take a decade and a bit) and I know exactly what you mean about WoW.

Once it exploded, the chuds came flooding in - but unlike this, you could avoid them and eventually they'd get blacklisted on their server. This was a lot of early gaming communities.

Now...ugh. It's not as bad as it was during the Wrath->WOD era (probably because a lot of people have quit) but it's not great.

Final Fantasy on the other hand - brilliant community.

    @unluckycombo said:

I've always been an advocate both for a better in-game report system (You know- one that actually works.) And a system similar to Overwatch's Endorsement system. If you enjoy playing with someone, you can give them props. More props you give for whatever you wanna give them for, the more likely you'll be placed with people with similar endorsement levels and the more rewards you get for good behaviour.

Mix that with an in-game report system that actually does something and I really think that toxicity wouldn't be a major issue.

I absolutely dig the 'endorsement' idea.

    @Myla said:

The thumbs up will definitely not be abused by people spamming it because they can lol.

Toxicity will never be fixed in this game and that's goes to every game there is. You can't put punishment on someone for spamming their flashlights and pressing the crouch button repeatedly. Either press the continue button and don't read chat or report them if they did say something offensive like racial slurs or life threats.

Also the toxicity in this game is just childish. There's a lot of games with worse cesspool than this not that I'm saying any of this is makes it any better but I just disagree on anyone saying this is the most toxic community in a game there is lol. It's far from it.

And...giving people free bloodpoints to be mean?

Who said anything about punishing them? Well...I would (grumpy old dad I guess) but I wouldn't want it to be automated or anything.

Thing is - teabagging or flicking someone after a win is pretty much the same as yelling an insult at the other team after the match when you should be shaking hands. It's disrespectful to the extreme and totally invalidates the effort they put in, at least partially for the entertainment of the other side.

Now, it's probably not a good idea to throw bans at these people, but for the enjoyment of everyone else, there feels like there needs to be something to ensure better sportsmanship.

I can't actually think of a current game with a worse ingame community than DbD that isn't Smite or GS:GO.

  • @Fuzzels said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2672013#Comment_2672013

Ok, but you are dodging MY point and argument completely. The fact is, your argument of "do this in public" isn't valid because it doesn't happen. And even if it did happen, you more than likely would simply walk away, because who cares about some rando telling things at you? Probably just some drunk or druggie, so move on with your day and forget em, right? Use the same logic in the game. ESPECIALLY since it's just a game. Turn your chat off if you can't handle the scary mean words, and stare at a wall if you are "triggered" by a survivor tbagging.

Also, giving incentives to people to NOT act like dicks is just a fantastic way to show people that if they aren't rewarded for a good deed, they have no reason to do said good deed. Hence, you create even more entitled dicks that think they deserve the world just for existing. Kinda along the same lines of giving out participation awards to kids, and that's led us to the current state of the world where people's feelings get hurt over the tiniest things like a player in a video game crouching repeatedly.

Because I've worked in education and counselling for most of my life, and I can very much tell you that 'people saying mean things' can wear people down to the point of misery, both adults and kids - especially when it follows them home from the world into the things they do to relax. And I'm sick and tired of people making excuses for it, or trying to place the blame on the people getting hassled, not the jerks.

And I'm sick of this culture war crap too. This isn't some politically correct rant about Far Cry 5 having the wrong sort of diversity or how the new survivor is problematic or whatever. It's genuinely frustrating how the response to 'hey, maybe PC culture has gone too far' turns into 'well, that means I have to act like a massive septic butt wherever I go to own the libs'.

You also missed my point completely. I'm using a hypothetical to show you how your suggestion works once you apply it elsewhere.

There is enough nastiness in the real world. When I come home to enjoy my hobby, I don't think expecting it to be free of the same nastiness is unreasonable.

If that means we have to reward people for not acting like jerks? So be it. The result is what matters here.

The point is that some people look to a frustrating culture and go 'this sucks, can we change that?', and other people look at a frustrating culture and go 'not only is this inevitable, but if you're bothered by it, you're the loser and you need to get over it.'

There's very obviously an issue with player nastiness in this game, and while the issue can never be entirely expunged, it can definitely be reduced on the simple fact that it's currently entirely unpunished and that other communities, while always containing bad sports, have managed to be not quite as systemically hateful as this one. And the issue will never go away if the community continues to accept it as just another part of the game and belittle players who take issue with it.

As an aside, OP, I'm frequently lowkey awed reading your posts. It's rare that you express an opinion that I don't share in its entirety and I've always appreciated your thoroughness when doing so. I don't have very much to say here that you haven't already and I quite like the idea of thumbs ups meaning something.

I get that but in the same breath I'm just pointing out the reality of the situation.

It sucks people are toxic but that's just the way it is, I would welcome a system to tackle slurs etc... but not in game bm personally cause it's just a game.

If people are directly using slurs and being that type of way then yeah a system should exist but for me personally. I just accept people are gonna be immature and disgusting cause it's just the reality of some people really suck sadly.

I ain't justifying it, that's just how I see it.

I appreciate your comment about agreeing with my opinions a lot, we can't always agree but I can say I respect you completely and your views♡

Honestly, it's the sportsmanship that bothers me. I sympathize when someone is a sore loser, but gloaters...get under my skin. Especially this sort of cowardly 'well, there are no consequences for me acting like this so here we go' stuff. And while people like to put on the fashionable 'it's just the internet stop being so sensitive' brave face, I think it gets under theirs too.

And no, I'll never accept 'that's the way it is' when I can think of five easy steps to take to help make the situation better.

You are never going to eliminate ingame toxicity. But you can damn well reduce it. And it's going to be something the devs have to tackle sooner or later, because once your game stops being niche, the nature of it's community becomes important. Newbies aren't going to stick around when they start running into bully squads who will stall the game out as long as possible and tell them to uninstall in postgame.

I'm not justifying but being realistic. There are ######### people and to actually try and act like you can take that away is just not realistic.

It's not a millennial thing, why even say that?

If you're older you should have enough sense that people are just ######### sometimes and there's nothing that can change that.

Because millennials seem to have split into two camps along political lines where one side is trying to be as PC as possible, one side is trying to be as outrageous as possible and everyone else gets caught in the crossfire.

And (as an aside) millennials are lower in empathy, higher in apathy and have a more prolonged adolescent stage developmentally than previous generations. The psych on this stuff is actually...really interesting. Naturally, this doesn't fit all or even the majority of millennials, but not all stereotypes are inaccurate.

No. As I've gotten older I've realized that you can't always stop people from being jerks, but you can damn well kick them out of the bar so everyone else can enjoy their drinks.

The differences here are that in a game, you can literally just look away or turn your chat off. It's that simple.

Also, whens the last time you ACTUALLY had someone scream obscenely at you, or yell slurs at you while walking around in public? And how often is it happening? If you're answer is more than once in the last 3 years, move somewhere better. Get out of the ghetto

    I second this.

I've had people text me homophobic slurs(cause I'm a lesbian) cause of this game and just the other day apparently the reason I'm soooo bad at this game is cause I'm a woman lmao.

But did I get super bothered? No cause there is just ######### people and you gotta get on with it.

    Sure.

But it did bother you. Even if just a little. Because if it didn't, there would be something wrong with you - and you probably wouldn't have remembered it. And over time...it wears on you. More and more. It makes every match a grudge match to repay the one before, and suddenly nobody is having fun. Tit for tat is a powerful instinct.

My point is that I've seen this happen to communities once a map/game got popular and the twerps find it, and if steps aren't taken to reduce it, it drives people away. Eventually, interest dries up as people leave Smite and go back to LoL.

Maybe it's because I'm older and am looking at this through the eyes of a sportsman of yesteryear, where acting like this would get you benched or even fined.

Again, I'm not saying 'just ban all the jerks'. I want to help them...act less like jerks, possibly by incentivizing good sportsmanship.

You could just like.. not look at the survivors tbagging and flashlighting? Easy solution my dude. Also just turn your chat off if you can't handle the scary mean words. Maybe stay off the internet too while you're at it. People in general suck. Anonymity only enhances that

Interracial couples who get slurs yelled at them in the park can just avoid the park?

People who don't like having obscenities screeched at them on the sidewalk can just not walk on the sidewalk?

Kids who don't like being bullied can just not go to school?

How far exactly do you want to go with this?

No. The blame for being a jerk is on the person being a jerk, not on the person that they were a jerk too.

It really is a marvel of the modern generation and how much time you are willing to spend defending you being a crappy person...rather than just not being a crappy person.

If people really want this game to be better then they need to start demanding tunneling and camping be removed. Not only is it completely unfair and unfun to survivors but it also is the reason kills have to be weaker then they should be because they have to incredibly powerful strats to abuse. Get rid of these strategies and killers can be buffed to be how strong they should be

    What?

Killers don't camp because camping is fun. They camp because against strong survivor teams, it's either that or get teabagged all the way to the exit and told to uninstall in postgame. Plus, BHVR is adding something to discourage facecamping soon anyway.

Tunneling is basically another term for 'I lost'. I've been accused of 'tunneling' for 'chasing me for too long'. It's a nonsense word that doesn't mean anything.

Getting 1 survivor out before 3 gens are done is a primary goal if you play killer.

No. You can’t make terrible human beings magically become not-terrible human beings

Naturally. But you can make them keep their terribleness to themselves.

And the amount of times where my team has done nothing wrong and got BM'ed is also uncountable with many sets of hands.

Shrug. I watch a lot of streams too, and my experiences don't seem to be atypical.

I wouldn't say everyone is saying she is terrible. People like me have realised that she has more counterplay than we thought after ptb, which is a good thing. But I feel like most people still agree that she is actually pretty strong.

She's good until people realize that they can shake the swarm off really fast while evading you, and the cooldown is just a bit too mean to really allow her to regularly chain them into damage.

There are gloating killers all the time, hitting on hooks and tbagging as ghostface etc.

But I do agree, a reward system would be fantastic

The amount of times I've seen this done without someone already starting the toxicity off first...I can count on one hand without using my thumb.
