even when you know what to expect, it doesnt take away the horror element. i know what to expect when v myers or pig but the jump scares and tense feeling on the gen are still there even after about 3k hours. in door maps are the best for this. The horror and fear element has been taken away by speedy killers like blight and the scooby doo loops around a pallet like a comedy sketch

I wouldn't count jump scares and stealth killers as "horror". You don't know where they are but that's about it, there isn't anything actually "scary" about that. The same way I don't think turning a corner around a wall or building in real life, and getting momentarily spooked by walking into someone else that was also turning that corner, isn't horror or scary. It was just a moment of unexpected interaction

  • The thing about horror games is that they're really only "horror" for the first playthrough, or in this case, the first 5-10 hours of playing. After you know what to expect, the horror is gone.

  • Unfortunately, Stephen King abhors video games. It's not likely that we'll ever see a license from anything related to him.

  • There's enough bugs as it is, let's maybe not add a whole new slew of them via new game modes that also take time and effort to create, taking away from fixing issues.

  • Not much different.

In all reality, the slugging thing wouldn't matter in 9999/10000 matches.

And killers who really want to tunnel would find ways to do it regardless. They would or at least should lose harder for it, if the survivors have any semblance of wanting to win and just pushing gens while one gets killed.

But that's all. Nothing major would actually change

  • Survivors need to start seeing the game as a 4v1, and not as a 1v1v1v1v1.

If the killer tunnels a survivor that can loop them for 5 gens, the killers loses and the survivors win. One dies, sure. But at the end of the day, they all won.

I hope the MMR changes reflect that

  • "The other Vecna, the one from stranger things, not DnD. You know the one"

  • Eddie is the obvious survivor, Beth could be a second

  • @neb said:

Quick question, but why are so many things to survivors "techs". They aren't even that hard to pull off, why do we slap on this word to make it sound like some super complex crap when it isn't lmao.

It's just short for technique. And that's what it is. No one claims it's a super complex thing, they just use the proper word to describe the action being done. Pallet looping is a (tech)nique. Hugging a wall as blight and dashing, is a (tech)nique. Billy curving is a (tech)nique. a survivor faking a pallet drop is a (tech)nique. Do you understand now?

An example of BM that is already bannable is body blocking survivors in corners, and I think it should be extended to BM that serves no gameplay purpose and is solely to spite other players. These are:

    -T-Bagging at exit gate

    -Loud noise/Iron Maiden notification spamming

    -Repeatedly striking survivors on hook

-Slugging for 4 minutes (provided it is extremely clear it is for BM and not for gameplay purposes like avoiding DS or being unable to find/hook the survivor)

Bro, hacking isn't even being banned properly, how can you expect the devs to start banning smaller things like anything you listed?

I don't know either. Pinhead has the highest killrate when is Power is really, really bad

People don't want to do side objectives like solving the box, so they die.

OR, much like how pig was at one point the highest kill rate killer because of time spent on head traps, people ARE doing the box but it's taking so much extra time away from gens that it's allowing pinheads to kill more efficiently

Entity feeds on hope, the survivor shouldn't feel hopeless - otherwise why would they bother playing the game?

And regardless of popular opinions, Killers do not get nerfed due to complaints - changes are made in line with game balancing.

Is it really hope, knowing you have an almost guaranteed escape route? Or are you meaning to say that the entity is feeding off the KILLERS hope for a decent match?

I don't mind losing one bit as long as it feels like a fair loss, but it's becoming a lot harder to feel like my losses are fair.

I feel like if anyone takes this game too seriously, they really should consider taking a break.

I was in teams with a streamer today and they raged because our team went down. They didn’t bother going for any saves throughout the match and did gens on the opposite side of the map.

I was laughing because me and some other random kept picking up each other with WGLF doing everything possible to prevent the killer from continuing slugging. It didn’t work out too well in the end.

They were mad because their 5 win streak broke and called everyone trash. The killer, me and the other 2 teammates were on console and they went on to say, “ Of course they are on console, no wonder they were trash”.

I don’t really care for them to bash console players (we get that on a daily basis) but to get really mad for a game, can be really silly. I know me and the other randoms didn’t too well but damn, they really should consider touching some grass.

It’s not the first time I have encountered this type of behavior before.

Dude there's tournaments with cash prizes for the game. A game filled with RNG, and crazy things that shouldn't happen but do more often than not. Admittedly I love to watch them. However, the fact that there's a tournament with money prizes for a party game, yeah people take it a bit too seriously sometimes. I mean imagine if someone tried to hold a tournament for Mario Party 2 on n64 and decided there was a $5k cash reward to the winner. Dbd tourneys are kinda like that.

  • @53nation said:

I was thinking of bringing No Way Out/Bloodwarden/NOED and mostly ignoring gens. Will this be fun? I don't know what the point of this game is anymore.

If you don't have fun, just don't play. There's a whole slew of amazing games out there.

  • I think the problem is that this is a thing at all. There's such a huge difference in amounts of players in each role (as in a whole ton more playing survivor than killer) so much so that to keep que times somewhat acceptable, the system actually has to pit new survivors against veteran killers. To me this says that there are not enough newer killer players, the reason being that trying to start as killer and trying to learn is much more punishing than it is to learn and start with survivor. Also that overall playing killer is just in general more punishing all around. The higher skill levels you play the less mistakes you can make without causing a loss for yourself, while the survivors are essentially able to make 4 mistakes per 1 killer mistake, and still be at the same level.

    So in short terms.

Spirit had Blood Warden and a Nea was hooked I was in a chase Kate opened exit gate who had zero hooks and left I try leaving and end up dead. I message the Kate asking why they left and here's their excuse.

My 6 year old daughter was playing.

How explain how a 6 year old was able to play this game not get a single hook and repair gens. My little brother played Killer and he didn't do good which is to be expected new to the game and having to remember so much but how can a 6 year old face a Spirit who knew what they were survive.

Kids are smarter than you think, man. And it's not really an excuse, I mean even if it wasn't a 6 year old and just another average player.. no one has any obligation to risk themselves to save you. Like none at all. Sure it's a team based role, but that doesn't mean anything when a win is based individually

Survivng is 5k points alone, in a category you have few opportunities to get points in otherwise. Meanwhile if someone gets tunneled the whole game, they probably only got their 8k boldness and maybe a handful in other categories at most.

Its not necessarily that they did literally nothing, but they don't need to contribute much to get more points.

That's true, but I'm sure youve had games where you die and still get more points than someone who escaped, right? It happens to me a lot more than it should I feel like, and I have to assume I'm not the only one.

i hope this is a joke 🤣 the urban evader did nothing for most of the game hiding, hardly touched a gen. I looped the killer for the length of time for the other 2 survivors to do gens which is contributing. If you honestly think that it makes them a better player because they hid the entire game and escaped while i took the chase then i'm lost for words.

I mean you can say the evader did nothing but obviously they did if they got more points than you. Unless you magically saw them evading around while also running the killer, which is horribly unlikely.

I'm not saying it's right, I'm just saying clearly the dude with evasion progressed the game

Not so much hard to see coming but take a tenth of the skill to use. Just run up and drop it near the killer = guaranteed blind. At least you need to somewhat aim with a flashlight.

Firecrackers and flash bangs aren't nearly that easy to use my man. I wish they were but they really aren't. To get a flash bang save you need to either time it perfectly as the killer is picking up, or hope the killer is too new to under turning away for a second when they hear the sound of it being dropped. Which really doesn't happen unless you're at the lowest of low mmr

If anybody on the team sees this message. Please ban me from the forums to prove my point. Learn to take criticms and actually try to work with us to save this game called Dead By Devs... Thanks

Yeah propnight isn't gonna take over anything. It's a silly party game (yes DBD is too, but propnight is fun for a couple hours then nothing)

We are continuing to monitor the situation with both perks - I am aware that certain maps are more of an issue than others with Boil Over in particular and it's something that has been brought up with the team.

I think the question is more "how did this come to live? How was this not caught by internal testing?"

  • It's more than just RPD to be fair. There's a few videos going around of various spots becoming unhookable location due to the perk.

Personally I don't care all that much and will just play around it, but I absolutely do agree with it needing to be addressed. If BHVR doesn't want to Killswitch any maps for now they could just kill the perk, adjust the 25% to something like 10 and call it good for now. Changing the perks percentage would be an infinitely easier change until the maps issue can be addressed

I remember that. It's so hilarious in hindsight that Counterforce was going to be the end of the world for hexes, and then three months later, boons happened.

I'm pretty sure I was concerned about Counterforce at the time, but yeesh, talk about a miscalculation.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2775117#Comment_2775117

Artist can facecamp someone and force everyone off every gen with birds. Either you hook trade and she does it again, or you let the person die and less time than usual to slam gens because about a third of the full hook timer is blocked by DMS.

That sounds like an issue specific to artist, not the perk itself

  • @TheMidnightRidr said:

With the change to Boil Over, if the killer drops down while carrying a survivor, immediately 25% of wiggle will be added on top of the already buffed wiggle strength making it harder to carry. In most cases this will be fine, but in certain areas this will be abused.

Take the Thompson house for example. There is already a spot where the chest spawns that survivors use to prevent from being hooked since there is no hook in the house (excluding the basement) and the only way to possibly get to a hook outside it to drop down the hole in the second floor and pray there is a hook just outside. Even without the new boil over, this can be dependent on rng or even impossible. With the new buff, it will be impossible no matter what to be able to hook in that corner.

This isn’t even the only example. Haddonfield roofs where you can’t go back inside and groaning store house scaffolding are to name a couple. I guess PTB will show us just how bad it can or cannot be.

    This has aged so wonderfully

  • Never seen nor heard of that happening but if you can get any video proof that would be interesting to see. Possibly a new hack but also sounds like it could have just been a crazy bug

I'm devotion 13, I know what I'm talking about. PC gamers will never know what it's like to play with low fps, lags, crashes that we face on consoles. But the problem is my inexperience, for sure.

Being devo 13 doesn't make you good. It just means you play a lot.

I played WoW for like 8 years, and almost exclusively did PvP. But I was no better than average. Playing for 8 years didn't automatically make me a good player, not did it automatically mean I understood every single tactic that other players used

BO is the tool they are using to be bully squads. And 3 out of 26 isn't nothing. If you got 3 hackers in 26 games, you'd be fuming. It's another version of the old 'you can't pick me up if I crawl between these two doodads' troll strategy, and I'm pretty sure you'd agree those spots needed to be fixed. Or...not?

The issue is that BO exists right now as a mediocre perk that only enables shenanigans. Get rid of the 'dropping' penalty and the issue is fixed. Rework it into something actually healthy for the game next time.

True. That's the current tool being used.

However, I bet you could could off on your fingers how many spots BO can actually be used to create an unhookable location. At that point, it's incredibly niche. Not only that, but for those niche locations, the survivor with BO needs to stay around that location, this removing their ability to do gens elsewhere on the map, or help others around the map with anything really. And if you want to use the argument of "ok but there's more spots when you factor in survivors breaking hooks and body blocking!" Ok, that's just that much more time taken away from gens, giving you more pressure. It's the same argument for flashlight saves. And again tied into that, if BO wasn't what it is now, there's plenty of other ways (much more potent ways even) for a SWF to bully you.

Ultimately, the issue is not BO. It's that bully squads exist at all. If it wasn't BO it would be something else. This BO is a non issue, and when it is rarely an issue, it can be worked around

  • @StarLost said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2773093#Comment_2773093

There is a name for this fallacy, but it escapes me. You are essentially asking me for ridiculously narrow 'proofs' for a fact that can be easily established by simply playing the game.

Something doesn't have to be common to be a problem. You may as well say 'show me an unedited video of 50 matches in a row where you face hackers, otherwise hacking isn't a problem'.

Doing my challenge at the moment, thus far I'm seeing at least one person with Boil Over in perhaps half my games.

In 26 matches thus far, I've had 3 bully squads abusing it with map offerings, which were genuinely frustrating games that took ages, and resulted in me gaining very little BP. I'd be pretty annoyed if I wasn't already Iri 1, as this would also make it impossible to pip.

If it truly is such an uncommon event, a very uncommon problem, then why does it need so much attention?

3/26 games where it affected you. That's a mere 3 games out of 26 that you'll have to slightly adjust the way you handle the game.

Even if it weren't BO, it would still be 3 games of bully squads that you'd have to change the way you handle the match in. Making BO a non issue, right? It just happens to be that they're using BO but it could have been anything else as well.

So ultimately BO isn't the issue, it's the bully squads to begin with. BO is just the current mask their wearing

There's nothing here to unpack except that I disagree with you on all points. You don't get to choose the meta as an individual, you have to play around it. I'm allowed to be competitive, full stop. And the slugging is happening far more often than you think it is, regardless of your personal experience.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2773043#Comment_2773043

The alternative is kill the meta completely by nerfing all second chance perks on both sides and considerably buffing aura perks so they additionally become potential mind-game perks and the rest of the perk library while we're at it.

Ok. That's fair. You have your opinions, I have mine, and we can simply agree to disagree.

However, I really do need to ask: if it's not fun for you, why are you doing it? Why aren't you playing in an "off meta" way that creates more fun for you and by extension the survivors you're against?

  • @StarLost said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/307155/boil-over-meta

Thing is - it doesn't change the meta.

Boil Over is still a terrible perk.

All it does is give griefers a tool to build bully squads around, or to stall matches out for ages as you're forced to bleed them out.

Ok, so you'll see it in one of maybe 50 games. Oh no.

If you can give me an unedited video of 50 matches in a row where you're being "bullied" by BO, I'll take back everything I've ever said about it. Until then, it's a non issue that people are simply blowing up to ridiculous proportions

Ok I'll look up agitation but for the placement sure tell me that when you get stuck on midwich with stretched out hooks , Dead Dawgs saloon's balcony, Haddonfield when that comes back, rpd and the game. Where there are certain areas where you don't have much of a choice.

Right, as I said, it's all about adapting to the situation. In those situations, you adapt by slugging.

  • @foxsansbox said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2773025#Comment_2773025

Where have you been? We are working around it. We're slugging more than we ever had, and tunneling more than we ever had. We know it's not fun for you and it's certainly not what we want either.

    Hence, the complaining.

    I'm a killer main, so there's that.

And if it's not fun for you, why are you doing it? That makes no sense.

"Cuz I'll lose if I don't!!!!" Ok? And? Who cares dude. You're not playing for money. It's not a professional competitive game. There's no need to win every single match. It's a game meant for fun. If you aren't having fun, what are you doing?

You don't need to slug everyone. It's not a constant thing that needs to be done. If they have BO and you can't reach a hook, sure drop em and slug. But that's not nearly as common as people are claiming.

  • @CyberDragoon656 said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2773012#Comment_2773012

Yeah tell what other than iron grasp is there? And since boil over is a flat percentage what does it change other than maybe a small time difference which might not even matter anymore since they never tweaked this to the new wiggle mechanic.

    Agitation.

Situational awareness also makes a huge difference. The moment you pick someone up you can know if they have boil over. If they do, you know to not drop off a ledge. If you can't reach a hook, leave them slugged.

It's all about adapting to the situation at hand

  • @foxsansbox said:

Your fundamental misunderstanding here is that you can change the meta without an infinite powercreep of second chance perks. Easy to do? Probably not.

    But you can.

You can, sure. However that's not what's happening. So instead of just complaining about it, work around it.

It's ok to be upset about the meta. I get it. But if you aren't going to do anything to actively make it easier on yourself, what exactly are you doing to solve the problem?

You can shout at a wall all day long for being in your way, or you can simply walk around it and continue on with what you were doing

  • @CyberDragoon656 said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2772789#Comment_2772789

No it's more that instead of balancing the game by stop giving survivors hand out perks they add more just go give them even more options while killers has to use certain perks just to even try.

Survivors use a certain perk to change the meta.

As a killer, use a certain perk to fit the meta.

This is basic logic my dude. We already have perks to play around boil over. Use em.

Its also their JOB to make the cosmetics, they GET PAID for doing their job which is to make us, the community, a good game. Your argument is also moot because not every cosmetic can be bought for free with iri shards so the business is always going to make pure money from those cosmetics. So in this sense my time IS more valuable because I'm not getting compensated to spend it on DBD like they are as devs. Which returns back to my original argument that DBD is just not worth the time investment.

Especially when they say ######### like "Removing perk tiers would only kick the problem down the road, SO WE ARE JUST GOING TO ALLOW PERK TIERS TO CONTINUE TO BE A PROBLEM BECAUSE ######### YOU"

If it's not worth your time, don't play it. Yeah you're right it's their job to create cosmetics. Playing dbd is not your job. Your time compensation is a matter of enjoying the game. If it's not worth your time, don't play. Pretty simple concept

You complained about other things in dbd at one point. Same thing really. Just pointing out the hipocrisy.

Also your "arguments" make zero sense. According to you any content in a game that you can earn is something we get for free. In a game we payed for btw.

Also I am not crying or screaming about it being changed. I just said I don't find it ok personally and you took it so bad that you had to resort to personal insults and continue to do so while everyone else was civil about it.

You are not very pleasant to talk to so I won't respond to you anymore until you learn some manners. No need for swearing.

It's still free. Yeah it takes time to earn but you aren't playing the game ONLY to unlock whatever it is you want. You're playing the game to play a game, the bonus free loot is just that. Bonus loot. You payed for the game, you got the game and can play the game. You want extra stuff in the game, you buy or earn the extra.

Think about ordering a pizza. You buy the pizza, right? And on most cases, you don't get to add 50 toppings for free. You are charged extra for them. It's the same concept as dlc in a game.

The fact that you don't think it's ok is an entitled opinion. Simple as that. You feel entitled to everything the game has to offer simply because you bought and play the game. That is literally the exact definition of being entitled. It's less an insult and more a statement of fact.
