It's not the oblivious status effect but the fact that it cancels out DS whenever a Survivor touches the hex

    :^)

Did they fix the 'booning a hex totem doesn't deactivate DS' thing?

I love Plaything, but it's sort of hard-countered by voicecoms.

It's not like he's very strong, or even above the midway mark of strength for killers, but I'm not sure why he's still below 50% kills even after the buff. People kill themselves on hook against him all the time, and he's a very effective camper. Surely that alone should be rocketing him to high kill rates, like it does with Bubba? He's arguably even better in a chase than Bubba, depending on the tile.

Normally killers with low killrates are hard to play effectively - Nurse, Clown, Plague, etcetera - but Trickster's skill floor and ceiling are pretty much the same. He's not exactly easy to play, but he doesn't really have any techniques or things to learn about how to play him other than just sharpening your aim. So it's not just a skill curve issue - and he's good at securing kills. I'm very surprised why his kill rate is still so low!

In BHVR's endless quest to make Trickster popular and strong, will he receive his 7th buff in a row?

It's because Trickster is just a...terribly designed killer.

His kit is just too silly to ever balance - even if he's weak, he's still bloody unfun to play against.

Other killers tend to have to 'bet' on chases - you'll either down them fast or they'll eventually reach complete safety and you'll lose them.

Trickster on the other hand is sort of an inevitable, slow killer. If a Trickster wants you down, you go down. But they waste a lot of time getting that down.

It's annoying for the person who is going to go down, but it doesn't make Trickster a good killer.

I thought this perk was going to destroy killers and beat dead hard in terms of power?

It was talked about for about 2 days after release and then silence. I can count on one hand how many times i saw this perk.

It didn't even take a week to dissapear in my matches.

I know we like to joke on how out of touch with the game the devs are. But maybe we need to self reflect and realise we as a community are equally as clueless.

Nobody knows how Dead by Daylight works. It's a life on it's own.

It definitely destroys killer when it's deployed. I've seen a few 'wat' games on stream revolving around this perk, and have been on the greasy end of it too.

Who...exactly said it was going to replace Dead Hard though? I don't recall anyone saying this at all.

That's the core reason why you aren't seeing it more. It competes with Dead Hard as an exhaustion perk, and while Overcome is bonkers strong, it's not a third health state on a 40 second cooldown that also feeds the killer false information and futzes with powers.

I love how someone tbagging in DBD is somehow on the level of a real world fear or a real world mental illness which is pretty ignorant and honestly it's sad. If your skin "loses thickness" over something someone did in DBD of all games your skin wasn't very thick to begin with. If you are getting that tilted over something someone is doing in a game and letting it bother you that much then it's time to take a step back think about a few things and work on yourself. There are people in this world dealing with actual issues, some people have to fight tooth and nail every single day just to barely be able to get by and don't even have the luxury of having time to escape it by playing a video game. So when people sit here playing dbd for hours on end every day and then wanna cry because someone tbagged you I just don't respect that.

    Sigh.

That's a red herring and you know it.

My point was that people :

    A. Recognize and

    B. React to

linguistic or behavioral cues in a manner that they can't control at an emotional level. They cannot control their neurochemistry as this occurs on a deeper layer than volition extends to - for anyone. They can moderate their actions based on those reactions, but the actual internal state is not subject to conscious control. You can be trained out of those reactions (generally via some form of CBT) but that's not really easy or reliable and can also mess people up badly (see: 'bomb-proofing' training).

Or to put it more simply, you can control what you do, but not how you feel.

Also - I swear, I need to make a Bingo sheet for these threads...

We've knocked off red herring fallacy, ad hominum and 'it's not the fault of the person acting like a jerk, it's your fault for being irritated by them' blame shifting in a single post.

All I need now is a 'get off the internet' and I'll have a full millennial Bingo!

Seriously though, no. The world is a nasty enough place sometimes for me to also have to deal with it in my hobby. You know, the place I come to relax after dealing with real life. I don't think an expectation that I should be able to enjoy said hobby without dealing with a constant flow of chuds is unreasonable. Other bigger, much more competitive games have pulled this off pretty well.

(As an aside: it really is frightening to me how much time you chaps will put into defending being a jerk, rather than just mannering up).

Oh no, I'll use strongest add-ons and the strongest perks.

Survivors won't be limiting themselves, so why should I?

Because that's generally not how these 'streak' videos are done. That's a different format entirely.

If you are talking something like a 3 blink nurse or Ring Blight then...maybe? It would probably go from 'impossible' to 'unlikely'.

That said, it would still be an interesting experiment. I'd be curious to watch the VODs.

My point though is that those '100 wins on pre-rework Plague, no addons' streaks are likely to be impossible, where before SBMM they were possible.

Not everyone has such strong nerves as you or me. This does not affect me personally. But I don't like itself human desire to ruin other people's mood. I know human psychology well. Many of them would have done this in real life if they were not afraid of the consequences. Therefore, when I return them to their attitude to the world, I simply explain in a language they understand, through pain, the inadmissibility of their behavior. Because, unfortunately, for many, this is the only language they can understand. Requests and arguments won't stop them. But their own bad gaming experience can do this, since their spoiled mood can discourage them from angering killers, or even continue matches that day. Therefore, I continued to troll them in the chat. I never scoff at those who behaved adequately.

It is also a demonstration that such a tool cannot be taken from killers, despite all the forum complaints about it. At least until a 100% working punishment for toxicity is invented. As can be seen from their chat messages, they threaten with reports. I know that I will not get anything for this, I did not break any rules. But people like them may well go to the forum, complain about "dishonest" mechanics and demand their nerf. Only for the reasons shown in the screenshot. If need to heal the problems of the game - then all at once. Or it is better to leave it as it is. Otherwise, many will simply not want to continue playing this game.

    I sympathize.

I'm currently taking a hiatus from this game, primarily due to the trolls and griefers just...finally wearing me down.

People usually respond to this stuff in one of 3 ways.

    • Disengagement (they become numb)
    • Retreat (they quit)
    • Assimilation (they become toxic too)

    I'm very much type-2. You've gone type-3.

The major issue is that, as you'll see probably in this thread (or at least on these forums) - that people will defend this stuff as just a harmless bit of fun/just how they enjoy the game and tell you to 'get off the internet' if you don't like it.

As DbD grows from a niche game into something mainstream, BHVR's willingness to moderate their community is going to be a huge factor in whether this becomes the horror version of LoL or the horror version of Smite.

The whole thing gives you whiplash. There's no gradual ascent or decline through levels of skill until you reach the medium of your talent. You just bounce around willy-nilly from First Game newbies to people who literally buy houses from the money they make playing this game all day.

They don't show you the numbers involved, but it sure feels like they're working with a binary 1 or 0 formula.

    Eh.

There's a lot of words for this phenomenon, but I've always like 'confidence'.

Basically, the less consistent your performance, the more volatile your MMR is going to be.

Most MMR systems tend to jump around wildly for a while until they can find a spot where you are mostly consistent and then things start to even out.

SBMM has some...quirks (see: bafflingly weird design decisions) like trying to prioritize queue times really rapidly and also causing you to gain extra MMR if you kill even 1 survivor out of your range while barely decreasing it if you get stomped in these 'snack' matches, as well as tying your new killers to the MMR of your highest killer but, especially on peak, the quality of my matches is a lot higher.

I can definitely still get a 100 win streak.

It'd just be slightly harder and would take more patience

I'd...love to see someone pull this off. Otz style - so no addons etc.

But until someone manages it - I doubt it's possible. He loses games all the time now on killer, some of them pretty convincingly.

  • @RoachesDelight said:

What exactly do you mean by harassing? Are we talking tbagging and flashlight blinds and stuff like that? If so that's kind of something you just gotta get over and it's on you if you let that affect your gameplay because ultimately that's the point of doing it. If you're talking about people sending messages and saying hateful things in the chat outside of the match then that's a different story and shouldn't be allowed.

As I said in the other thread, it's...not that simple.

It's not a matter of 'getting over' anything. That's not how human neurochemistry operates. People can't choose to not be annoyed at something any more than they can choose not to be scared of something or not to be depressed.

Beyond this - most people, I'd wager, come in with that attitude and eventually get worn down by the toxicity.

When it's not survivors teabagging me in the exit gates after I went easy on them due to a DC, it's survivors giving photosensitive players migraines with flicky macros, survivors taking the game hostage by refusing to complete the final gen and playing hide and seek/memeing with sabos and flashlights for an hour (which has been confirmed as non-bannable as it's still technically possible for killers to win) etc.

Eventually, your skin loses thickness and you either get frustrated, become numb or start becoming toxic yourself.

'Teabagging' or flashlight macros don't have any intrinsic meaning themselves - but neither does shaking/refusing to shake your opponent's hand after a match. It's commonly accepted, however, that certain things are disrespectful and certain things aren't.

I'd personally like to see a system to encourage better sportsmanship in DbD, as has had a ton of success in other PvP games - because this community, especially on the survivor end of things is toxic, going on septic.

If you watch the video, Scott explains that he still gets the most ridiculous variety of matches. One you’ll be sweating your butt off for two hooks, the next you have potatoes gen locking themselves - if they even get more than one gen done. And I agree and see the same in my matches, both as killer and survivor.

Because MMR says Urban Evading, Spine Chilling, Iron Willing, Self-Caring Nea, who hid while everyone else did all the work yet got out the gates, is a better survivor than the one who died with a higher score so that she could.

I definitely see a lot of variance.

I also definitely see less variance than I did under ranks, by a mile. You'd have to dig up my earliest posts, but something like 2/3 of my games were either against people at red/purple ranks with 20-200x my hours, or people smurfing at yellow ranks with 20-200x my hours.

Now I'll still get the odd 'wat' matchup, and the occasionally stupid chain of TTV SWFs (particularly at offpeak) but it's nothing like it used to be.

I think this is less a matter of ranks/MMR for Scott and more about him being among the best players in the world. Of course he's going to see more variance because the vast majority of groups aren't as good as him, even in his MMR 'bracket'. But I watch a fair few high-MMR streamers and everyone agrees that the quality of their opponents has gone up enormously. Otz, for example, has outright said that he won't be doing his crazy 'streak' videos anymore.

I think he also underestimates how much of a map is determined by RNG, which killer/perks/addons you have and what map you were sent to.

As others have said, there are a few possibilities.

    • Subtle hackers giving themselves constant/infinite...well, I won't be more specific than that.
    • SWFs running multiple fancy toolboxes with PTS.
    • Everyone spawned basically on top of a gen together (happens every game on Cowshed and RPD it seems).
    • You are mistaken and the speed just seemed faster for whatever reason.

i am honestly in love with how good the artist turned out being with alright addons and unmatched chase potential with almost infinite range lethality with a few tactics you could do with the crows, got lucky with getting bbq on her and will hopefuly p3 her by the end of the day today.

but i do find it weird why they gave her the normal movement speed that she does have. if she was released pre 2021 setting the traps would've taken 5 seconds and arming would've taken 3 seconds, and she would probably not be able to move while doing it not to mention the crows would instantly get lightburned like the hag's phantasm.

i'm just greatful we're getting a decent killer once in a while. and a killer that rewards skills and experience with how well you understand survivor movement and predict accordingly. as well as her ability to harrass survivors from afar.

unlike say the last killer who's passive slowdown ability wrecks low ranks with little to no skill on the killer's part and a chase power that's isn't very rewarding for how risky it is that he has very little value in higher level plays because teams actually know how to manage time better and where his possesed chains aren't as effective because survivors can actually loop worth their salt and understand how flimsy the chains are.

Sure. Or her birds would be instant and would damage people from across the map.

The only balance this game had back in the day was 'no balance'. Killers could be utterly broken (Nurse) or unplayably bad (Hag) and everything in between.

Deathslinger needs his aim change reverted and maybe his 'miss' time increased. Right now it's not just that he's underpowered - it's that he's clunky and unfun.

Artist is entirely fine - honestly, she could even stand for a Plague-style QOL improvement with all her hitching.

After losing five matches in a row, the game throws me a bone and puts me on a team of players that have clearly been playing quite a bit since the reset, with a killer that obviously hasn't been. I know grades indicate how often people play and isn't indicative of skill, but to be fair neither is SBMM. All the new MMR does is measure kills and escapes. If anything the grade system is more accurate than SBMM itself. At least it tells you how efficiently people needed to play in order to rank up. This poor killer only wound up with two hooks, which was a far cry from the Killers I faced prior. This match was so lopsided that it wasn't even funny. No wonder people don't want to play killer anymore. People who play killer don't want to be the survivor's plaything, and that's what it feels like in matches like this.

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/HH88Z80O4JLN/img-20211207-222950-01.jpg

    Oof. No.

I'm Iri 1 on killer. So are the best killers in the world.

I've been playing killer for maybe 270 hours. I've got bad eyes, crap reflexes and get distracted by passing clouds.

Grade isn't rank and it's certainly not MMR. It's not easy to gain at the highest grades - sure - but it's even harder to lose. All you need is one short streak and you've leaped up another grade, and you can't depip past that level, so eventually you get another streak, even if you lose 20 games before it happens.

    @GoshJosh said:

Definitely doesn’t have to do with him playing a M1 killer with some not very great perks. Right?

Ironically, I just finished watching Scott Jund’s video about grades vs. MMR. Pretty accurate.

I'm...somewhat reluctant in accepting the opinions of ultra high MMR monsters when it comes to SBMM, as ranks benefitted them directly at the expense of everyone else.

Under ranks, as killers had virtually no matchmaking protections, high MMR killers were put up against a huge range of survivors, and vice versa. This was great for the high MMR players...not so great for everyone else.

It's where those '100 win streak' videos came from. Those won't be happening under SBMM, and there's a reason for that.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2683020#Comment_2683020

Tbh, you only listed some things.

    I add up for survivors:

    • Learning every killer and his powers
    • Learning every killer with special builds
    • You need to adjust your playstyle for your mates, which isnt a positive thing (unless you play SWF)
    • Learning every item
    • Sometimes you need to distract the killer, so the objective can be done
    • Try to rescue other survivors before a killer can hook
    • Take protection hits or take a chase...

Also blessing and breaking are in one category. You can add remembering totem locations.

For some killers, you need to look good after some things. Doctor for example with his passive.

Also you said that killers need to chase survivors after pallets etc etc, but the survivors need to consider this too?

On most things, you need skill. Maybe you should consider playing survivor for a while?

Both sides need time and learning and not everything is just easy.

Also i think that some killers "switch off o survivor" and its easy, just means you are low MMR and of course, first its easier if you already have game sense.

    You're...exaggerating.

But I think others have also put it inelegantly.

Survivor and Killer are different roles with different difficulties, and survivor is certainly the easier of the two - but that's an oversimplification.

The roles are just so...incredibly different.

    • Survivor has a much lower skill floor. It's a far easier role to learn, both as every single survivor plays the exact same and the majority of survivor perks are almost entirely non-interactive. The role is basically 'do gens, survive'. Everything else is just a complication of this role.
    • Killers, on the other hand, have a lot more going on. You have to defend/patrol generators, chase survivors (and catch them), down damaged survivors, find other survivors and - most importantly - constantly make massive, high-impact decisions with imperfect intel and almost no time to choose. Chase or peel off and pressure elsewhere? Hook or slug? Kick the gen and risk wasting important time or leave it and risk losing it? Tunnel or spread pressure? Proxy camp or patrol?
    • The mistakes of one survivor can be compensated for by teammates. Any mistakes a killer makes can quickly snowball with no way to recover.
    • Killers have far less intel on survivor locations than survivors do on killer location, both in terms of perks, feedback and voicecoms.
    • Killers have a lot more going on mechanically than survivors - on top of different speeds, terror radiuses etc. they also have to learn an often very complicated power.
    • Survivors win by default.

Now, I would say that at intermediate and 'advanced' play survivor 'difficulty' and killer 'difficulty' on a one-on-one level aren't too far off (I'd say killer still takes the lead, but the delta is much smaller). At an 'expert' level however, the two separate out again due to just how incredibly strong SWFs can be.

Taken as a whole, survivor is much easier to go from 'new' to 'intermediate' on than killer is. I know that I've played maybe 40 hours of survivor and 270 hours on killer and it feels like I'm about equally decent on both roles now. Being a 'good/advanced' survivor and killer aren't too hard solo, but factoring in SWF and expert level play, killers really struggle.

    It's like...

    Survivor: New--->Intermediate------->Advanced----------->Expert

    Killer: New----------------->Intermediate--------->Advanced------------------->Expert

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/298717/since-when-did-the-whole-forums-start-saying-survivor-takes-no-skill

There has been a lot of killer players switching over to survivor and discovering the game is pretty easy on that side of the fence. Personally, I've had far less stress to deal with and doing the standard survivor things like looping, gens, saves, etc. hasn't been particularly hard to pick up.

Survivor is just isn't mechanically intensive and that is ok. Not everything should be, but also keep in mind a lot of killers have hundreds or thousands of hours playing most that specific role. So by default if they've been playing the game that long then they already know how maps run, where deadzones are, how killers would approach dealing with different types of loops. Having that knowledge makes it easier to just play the game in general. Also being a survivor means you're not carrying the entire burden of what is happening in the game alone. Frees up more brain power to think out what to do and how to do it. You aren't really stuck just reacting to everything since you have people you can mostly depend on.

Getting good at survivor if you've already been playing the game a long time, is going to feel like it takes very little skill since unless you're trying to master something like hitting only great skill checks the game isn't really pushing you to learn anything you didn't already understand.

    I did it for archives.

Survivor is definitely easier, especially when you are starting out. Going from killer to survivor it felt like I had so much more room to make small mistakes, waste a bit of time here and there and man was it easier to pick up.

I just found the role...dull. Perks are dull, there's no special mechanic or power to learn and it's always 'hide, run or greed'. There is some mechanical skill at being a good looper...but nowhere near as much as it takes to CATCH a good looper.

  • @DarthTyros said:

I also wanted to elaborate on my earlier post by stating that toxicity in a game is very subjective. I for example have not only have become numb to it but embraced it which has caused me ironically to have more fun in the games I play so when someone is toxic to me in game It gives me a good laugh.

For example I had a game on Springwood Vs a Wraith. Had some solid chases, got alot of saves and did 2 gens while taunting the killer throughout the game. By endgame the Wraith used Noed on a Felix I tbagged there BBQ and they downed me shortly there after since I was in a dead zone and then they BM'd me back which is fair game.

As killer I got a Haddonfield game and I was Pig. The survivors tbagged most of the game but I finished with a 2 K while Tbagging them in return. Both games are what I'd consider very fun interactions between both sides, I don't expect others to agree with that since again what is defined as interesting and fun gameplay is very subjective and I assume many killers in the community would find my definition of fun as problematic which would only serve to futher amuse me and give me more motivation to play that way.

My point is that fun itself is subjective and so is toxicity. PvP games often are fun at the expense of another player and some games are going to exemplify that more then others. It all depends on what you consider fun at the end of the day.

Yes, you've pushed through numbness into what I could only describe as a sort of masochism. That's...not good either.

And sure, all 'toxicity' is subjective because all meaning in human language and most body-language is subjective. That doesn't mean that human language or body-language are meaningless though. And most people, even people who claim that it doesn't bother them...are still bothered by jerks, bullies and the like. Either that or they disassociate (numbness), or even push through this into masochism or antisocial behavior themselves.

It's easy for a reasonable person to spot the line too.

The best example I can think of was one of my first jobs (a...very, very long time ago). I worked at a local gym.

We were having a lot of problems keeping new members, and after the owners followed up with people who hadn't come back, it turned out that there were 4 or 5 regulars who were constantly insulting newcomers, calling them fat/weak/girly etc. and telling them to stop wasting everyone's time and just leave - generally when they wanted to use the equipment the newcomers were.

The managers were told (yay) to confront these chaps - who responded much as other posters here, saying 'oh they just need to grow a set and ignore us, stop taking everything so personally'. They also threatened to leave themselves and tell their buddies not to come back if we didn't leave them alone.

However, the owner was savvy enough to realize that it was better to lose a few regulars now than lose potentially dozens of new customers who were put off by the jerks. He ended up politely inviting them to find a new place to work out.

A year later and our attendance was up 18% if I recall correctly.

Now - apply this logic to a videogame.

    I understand what he's saying.

When you defend something objectively negative, there are usually 3 possibilities:

    • You indulge in that thing yourself.
    • You are being contrarian for the sake of arguing.
    • You lack empathy and that negative thing doesn't effect you personally.

It's not likely to change. Crouching is needed in this game, so t-bagging probably isn't going anywhere. If someone is getting this upset about it, then it's time to move on. Maybe play offline games or something. It's just ridiculous.

Pings are needed in LoL. Emotes are needed in LoL. Ping spamming and emote spamming are both straight up bannable.

It's easy for a reasonable person to differentiate between someone crouching and someone being a jerk.

Flashlight spam is imho a bigger issue because that strobing gives me a headache at times and I've only got very mild photosensitivity issues.

I agree. Unfortunately, some people can't move on. This is something that happens in a lot of online games. Getting upset is exactly what these people want. Ignore them.

People can't just choose to not be upset any more than people can choose not to be depressed or frightened.

Human neurochemistry doesn't work that way.

Of course, reasonableness does come into it - but I don't think it's unreasonable to not want a less toxic community, especially when people have made endless suggestions of how to do this.

For the first time I agree with an IronKnight post. It's not likely to change, indeed.

But it still could, and if we have an attitude like "if you can't deal with it, play another game", then it definitely won't change.

I've suggested turning the upvote into something that could award people BP, but it would be up to the opponent whether you get it or not.

Others have suggested a system similar to Overwatch's 'endorsement' system, which would also be a pretty elegant solution.

If it was up to me, I'd bring the LoL Tribunal to DbD...but I'm a grumpy old dad who grew up in a generation where being a massive jerk wasn't somehow defended as a good thing.

It's a non-issue. I can't believe people get upset at a video game character bouncing up and down... Like I've already said before- I don't care what strangers think about me. It's completely fine if you don't believe me. People who get hurt so easily shouldn't play online games.

It's a non issue because, to be frank, you are either toxic yourself or numbed.

BM is BM, whether it's refusing to shake hands after a hard-fought rugby match or teabagging someone after a hard-fought round of DbD. The difference is that one would get you benched/fined and one will be openly defended.

And again, I love how you try to shift the blame here. 'People should be able to act like poisonous butts in a videogame and if you don't like it, that's your fault' is such an...odd hill to die on.

Joined a random pug and we happened to all pick Mikela Reid because 3/4 already had her. We did not know eachother and weren't even an swf(not that it should matter). 2 Killers dodge lobby then third decides to go except he DCs during match loading. Now I have to wait in another 10 min queue while the killer gets no penalty at all for intentionally starting the match and dcing during loading. Yet I get a penalty if I dc the last hook because some killer double tunnel and camped the hook on me just to let them know how I feel about their gameplay. How does your system of fairness make any sense whatsoever? At the very least a disconnected load should give the people who didn't disconnect an instant queue.

    Sigh.

If I see a lobby full of the same character, I generally dodge. It's like teams that switch to a full item loadout just before the match starts.

It gives you a surprising advantage over the killer as much harder to remember/figure out how many hook stages a player has before committing to a chase with them.

    Just...don't do it.

As long as my killer queues are instant no way in hell I'm playing against 4 of the same characters xd. My game also has a strange bug of crashing whenever someone uses a Haddonfield or Badham offering.

I must say that I haven't encountered that bug, but my dog does have a weird habit of walking in and dragging me off to the kitchen to feed him the second I see one of these offerings.

So both your posts miss the point people are saying... which once again makes me think your a troll.

I'm not defending rudeness. I'm pointing out that reacting to someone being rude by comparing it to racism is a terrible thing to do. Just because I said there's a difference between a nazi and someone who didn't cover there mouth when they burped doesn't mean I'm defending burping in people's faces.

As for your second post... stop. Trying to compare someone tapping crouch to jokes about ######### victims and racism is disgusting. Outright disgusting. It has no place in this thread or this discussion. Stop.

There is an infinite chasm between someone being kinda rude in a game and someone being openly bigoted. Stop putting the two anywhere near each other. You aren't helping anyone in anyway. You're just degrading the struggle and frustrations of people you clearly know nothing about if you think they have any place in the same breath.

    You're strawmanning.

In the context of what we are discussing, there is no difference between yelling a slur at someone and deliberately belching in their face (following your own example).

In both cases, you are acting in a deliberately nasty manner to make someone else unhappy for your own personal enjoyment.

That is the long and short of it.

b-b-but its just pressing CTRL, you must have a sad life to be offended by hitting CTRL

*says the person who rabidly smashes the ######### out of their CTRL key at the end of every game, before probably crying themselves to sleep*

The core issue is that toxicity propagates outwards.

Someone BMs me in games 1 and 2, so I go into games 3 through 10 out to hurt people. Which gives them a miserable experience, leading them to be BM - and on it goes, ad infinitum.

Tit for tat is one of the most powerful human responses.

Doesn't wear me down at all. I just don't care what some stranger thinks of me. Let them t-bag and flashlight click all they want. I personally never do anything toxic as killer or survivor. That's just not how I like to play. If someone gets that offended over a game, then they shouldn't be playing (especially online games).

Honestly, I'm inclined not to believe you - because your conduct on the forums (ranging from being disingenuously contrarian to deliberate, Sluzzy-esque flamebaiting minus the self parody) does indicate either a tendency towards extracting enjoyment from annoying people or a blistering lack of self awareness. Not trying to be mean, just saying what I've observed. There is a reason why a lot of people lose their temper with you, Iron.

That said...this is true of a lot of people who engage in toxic behavior. They aren't even really aware of it anymore - which is why a warning system can be so effective at letting them know 'hey, you are spoiling things for a lot of people - knock it off'.

And see - that's the thing. It's not a matter of being 'offended' (lets not bring that culture war crap into this) - it's a matter of sportsmanship. Having a decent, sportsmanlike community or at least building your game towards encouraging this is what determines whether you end up as League of Legends or Smite.

But I'm always amazed at how much effort people will spend shifting the blame...rather than just mannering up.

I've actually suggested something closer to the Overwatch 'endorsement' system, where you'd be able to give good, non-toxic opponent some sort of reward.

That is a different issue. Hacking is cheating and ruins the entire game. Not the same.

You're...either totally missing or deliberately trying to twist what Sherbert was trying to say.

Let me see if I can paraphrase here:

Just because something happens in an online game and is almost possible to completely prevent does not mean that you shouldn't bother trying - because both hacking and toxicity make your game a lot less enjoyable for a ton of people.

  • I've been playing games since before the term 'gamer'.

    It...wasn't always like this.

This new 'I get to act like a gigantic smelly butt and if you are annoyed by that it's a you problem' is a pretty new phenomenon.

Comparing being teabagged in a computer game to being in a fight or getting into trouble at your job is a bit silly.

They are just random strangers playing a video game. It means nothing unless you make it.

Well...nothing means anything unless we let it. All language is contextual.

We derive meaning through common consensus.

Shaking hands after a match is commonly agreed on being a sign of mutual respect for the other team and the effort they made, even if they lost.

Refusing to shake hands/yelling an insult at the other team is similarly a sign of disrespect, and a nullification of said effort.

It says a lot about modern culture that the latter is not only considered acceptable because it happens in a videogame - but is somehow taken up as a cause worth defending.

You need to understand anyone who defends this stuff pretty much is guaranteed to do it themselves. You wouldn't convince me otherwise. So no surprise they react almost angrily to the idea of punishment.

It doesn't even need to be a punishment.

Honestly, just a warning is effective 4/5 times.

After a certain point, you get the community you create - and deserve.

    @TheSubstitute said:

The other point I thought I would make is that you don't get to control how people react to offensive behavior. The person making the ethnic slur is just 'joking'. A person who dealt with sexual assault may be offended by the person who's taunting using a behaviour that references a sexual activity. Just stop acting terrible and respect other people. It's just a video game doesn't mean there isn't a real person on the other side.

    That said...ugh.

    There's a difference between telling a dark/edgy joke and being a jerk.

One of these things is intended to be funny for both parties, and one is designed to be fun at the expense of the other party.

    As always, context is king.

    See above.

Shaking hands or flipping someone a middle finger after a hard-fought match don't have any intrinsically positive or negative meaning, we assign these things meaning which is why they become common practice.

However, because of this commonly assigned meaning ('teabagging' is basically the gaming equivalent of spitting in someone's face after a match) - we do these activities to communicate a meaning to the other side.

'Teabagging' in this case is basically saying 'lol I wun u suck uninstall' to the other side.

What is worse than a sore loser? A sore winner. As Killer you can't do anything to stop them from leaving. In a few cases the overestimate and get caught, but that good feeling does not erase the other times when they just tease you.

I read many times, that you can just ignore it or don't go to the exit gates. If ignoring it would help, there would not be daily complains about it. And if you don't go to the exit gates, you have to stand somewhere waiting until they leave, a complete time waste.

I am proposing to change that, so you can't crouch at the exit gates and in an area around it, because everybody knows, survivor will just find a way to exploit it.

Nobody would be harmed. It has only positive aspects.

    Yup.

I very recently quit the game, primarily because I ran into incredibly BM survivor groups that eventually got under my skin.

I'm not just talking about the obnoxious teabag/flicky flicky types - I'm talking about full TTV SWFs with a smurfed down MMR who will 99% the last gen, stall the match out indefinitely with sabos, flashlights and perks and then report you (when you finally AFK out) for 'non-participation'.

That said - judging by the responses these threads always get, there are a lot of survivor players who derive their enjoyment from making killer players miserable. These same players will turn around and tell you that it's actually your fault for being miserable, that 'this is just the internet, man up' and other such tidbits of wisdom.

I've had multiple groups tell me in postgame that their primary goal is to get killer players to uninstall. I even had one saying that he hopes he manages to give someone a seizure with a flashlight macro.

These are the people you are dealing with here - and you may as well try to dig holes in water.

If that happens, then you can push them out. That's what I do. Who cares if they t-bag you? I just have a laugh and give them a GG.

I'm...oddly unsurprised to see you defending ingame toxicity.

And no. The blame for acting like this is on the chuds trying to spoil another player's experience by gloating on them (which is essentially disrespecting the effort they put in) - not the people who have their experiences spoiled.

I don't care if you've got an armadillo hide - this crap wears you down. If it doesn't, it just makes you numb (which isn't a good thing either).

You may never fix all ingame toxicity, but you can damned well fix a lot of it. The League of Legends example is the best one I can think of - one of the most poisonous communities of all time. Once Tribunal was introduced, something like 80% of the toxic players reformed after a simple 'you've been reported in a lot of games recently, shape up or you'll get banned' warning.

  • @Shenlong1904 said:

Both the forums and the subreddit always were quite killer sided, treating killers like the underdogs while survivors as the big bad villain, but recently this has been worst than ever.

These forums have mostly become an echo chamber for killers who want the game to be shaped around them.

Like yes, I understand that this game is survivor sided, meaning that if both sides try their hardest and play almost perfectly, the survivors will mostly win.

But that doesnt mean yall can just act as if people who play survivor are the scum of the earth.

And holy hell, if the devs really decide to follow the general consensus of the forums, all matches would be a 4K at 5 gens.

The way some of yall get so offended by somebody's virtual avatar crouches over and over again.

Even I have gotten quite stressed because of this game, but I have never, never, never put blame on the survivors or the devs, because, as you so often repeat, "They bought the game, they play how they want"

Recently, almost every post has a variation of "survivor easy and no stress, so survivor players are babies. Killer hard and have stress, so killer players are oppressed".

If killer is so hard, then go play survivor and try it out. If you say it's easy and stress free, there are three things that could make you say that. 1.Low MMR for the skills you have 2.You stress yourself when playing killer. 3. You're lying.

Many times, when you're having a stressful time playing a game, all you need to do is relax and remember, its just a game, and the results don't matter.

But it seems that too many of you have put hours into getting better, and feel you deserve results, and therefore if you dont get those results, you'll feel cheated, which causes you to stress.

Yes, sometimes the game really is unfair, or atleast feels very unfair. But most of this unfairness is created by your expectations.

Hell, for some time i had quit DBD when i had around 700 hours in the game. Because I thought I deserved to win almost every match. And that simply wasn't true.

I play around 70% killer and 30% survivor if it matters.

    Alright, rant over

    Yay, this again.

    See: here's the thing.

    You say 'echo chamber'.

I say 'when one side of your APvP game is making 90% of the complaints, chances are that there is a problem with that role'. The majority isn't always right, but that doesn't mean it's always wrong either.

Killer complaints seem to come in 5 broad topics.

    • Balance. Keep in mind that more than half the maps are strongly survivor favored, and several either have absurdly strong loops, too many freebie gens, stupid hook spawns, pseudo-infinites or are just too big and dense to really contest against strong groups. When the results of a trial so often feel determined by which killer is sent to which map - that's a problem. And that's before we dip into stuff like Boons, Dead Hard and the like. I'm not going down the 'the devs hate killers and love survivors' hole, but I don't think that even you could argue that balancing killers and balancing survivors isn't handled...very differently.
    • Meta. This is related to the above, but essentially - only a handful of killers are really viable at high MMRs unless you enjoy getting slapped by map offerings and coordinated groups. Not everyone wants to play Blight or Nurse and tons of killers either have terribly outdated kits or have received bizarre, often too heavy-handed nerfs because they were doing too well at low MMRs without any regard for viability outside of these matches. Slinger, Wraith and Cenobite are my best recent examples.
    • SBMM. It's an improvement on ranks, sure - especially since under ranks killers had their matchmaking protections almost entirely removed. But you'll still be thrown to high MMR SWF groups with 10x your hours played on their lowest member if they happen to wait in the queue for too long.
    • SWF. This has been a contentious topic from the get go, and it's just so strange to me that SWFs don't have an MMR adjustment (as they do in...basically every other game). Taking a solo/killer matchup at an MMR that is designed to be an even match and then turning that arbitrarily into a SWF/killer matchup - that's where you get stupid stomps.
    • Toxicity. The crowning cherry on top of all of this is just how filthy survivor groups can be without any provocation. It's one thing to lose a game, it's quite another to have the other side stall it out for half an hour to meme on you/play hide and seek, or gloat at you by teabagging/flicky flicky from the exit gates. This is the stuff that gets under your skin and makes playing killer all the more frustrating. And beyond this, you have the SWF groups who are both already good at the game and have a huge advantage from voicecoms/coordination who can then add on a Badham offering, a further hook offering and stacked addons and perks - these are the groups who don't just want to win, they want to stomp. They want to hurt the killer at a fundamental level to demotivate them - and I know this because I've had groups tell me in postgame that their goal is to make killer players uninstall.

It often feels like a role for masochists, who are there purely for the entertainment/as a punching bag for survivor players and yeah - it gets old, both due to bizarre balancing/mechanical decisions and the actions/attitudes of survivor players in general.

  • @Saalaksin said:

Picked up the game on Epic when it was free and bought Trickster and Legion's DLCs because I like the way the look.

Having a blast as Trickster. Low queue times as a Killer mean I get plenty of practice with the ol' Barrage o' knives, but I've picked up a pattern in my gameplay.

I get a hook in, and immediately amble off to restock my knives, and by the time I turn around, my victim is being let off the hook and it's time to get my murder on again. They're practically right in front of me.

So, naturally. I give chase. If I have to make a choice, I'm going for the one that just got rescued from the hook because I know three hooks is an auto kill, but usually the easiest target gets run down and I walk them back to where they be... er... I mean, the hook..

This tends to repeat several times per match. Hook. Scan the area. Restock. Run down the poor survivor that decided to go for an unhook fiteen meters away from me. Often I'll get a smack in while they're in mid unhook animation.

Now, from my PoV, I'm just doing gameplay as intended. I'm not going to camp because every second I stare at my victim is another second survivors work on gens unperturbed, and neither me nor the Entity want that.

But survivors crucially *can't see* my PoV and I am forced to wonder if they think I'm just going tunnel vision on them or camping on the hook.

I mean, sometimes I *do* camp on the hook, but always for meta reasons, like all the gens are powered and if I can just secure this kill, you get to run off scot-free (curiously, Survivors never seem to take this offer.) Or I need one sacrifice to round out an Archive challenge.

Am Indo8ng something wrong here? How do I communicate "seriously, ya'all, I'm right here, unhooking your friend can wait until another couple of seconds have passed and I'm gone?"

One thing I learned about playing killer (and the thing that eventually pushed me away from the game, save for a daily login to get Christmas presents) is that survivors don't need a reason to be insanely BM, or even an excuse half the time.

It feels like survivors get to act like toxic little gremlins all game with zero repurcussions or risk, but the killer is expected to always be nice and honorable or you'll get threatened for all sorts of reports in postgame (I swear, survivors will play Claudette/wear a pride pin and teabag/flicky flicky you all game so they can threaten to report you for being a bigot when you kill them) and have the chuds sending their Twitch viewers to graffiti your Steam wall.

  • @JPA said:

Given that there is 1 Killer for 4 Survivors, it is widely accepted that time efficiency is more important for the Killer role, hence the role being generally more unforgiving towards mistakes (at a high MMR at least).

For this reason I think breakable walls are poorly designed. The Killer has to spend time to break them in order to close off certain loops, but if the Killer is the role which has more of a time constraint, I don't feel this is very fair.

What if, all breakable wall spots on a map were broken by default, but a Survivor could use a quick action (which takes some time, not sure how long) to assemble the wall. This could be in the region of seconds, or it could take a bit longer (if it took a decent amount of time, then it might be fair to make the wall breaking animation slower for the Killers than it is now).

Perhaps it could require a toolbox (giving toolboz another use beyond gen-rushing and sabo plays), or maybe it could be done without (but slower). Also equipping a toolbox could maybe give the Survivor an aura for any of these walls.

This gives survivors some kind of extra objective (or at least a side task), you could build up an area as a Killer is pressuring other parts of the map, which then gives you more potential to run a longer chase later into the game. It also puts some amount of control into the hands of Survivors, as its an extra resource on top of pallets which they can choose when to deploy.

I know the breakable walls are a pretty minor part of the game, and this is unlikely to be changed, just wanted to mention something I always thought was a bit backwards.

Currently breakable walls are a bit brainless once you know which ones to break and which ones not to. If they could be continuously rebuilt, it might make it a bit more tactical.

On some maps, they can be interesting. On The Game, for example, they offer you new routes to pressure gens but also give survivors new routes to escape.

On others (Badham, Eyrie - I'm looking at you), they are makework for the killer, and serve as another 'you must do this or you'll get looped infinitely/won't be able to hook anyone from certain areas' chore for a role that is already pressed for time.

Yesterday Otzdarva made a stream when he tried to prove this point.

So he took every killer, he used really good perks and god tier addons and played.

He obliterated every lobby (most of the time, it was with 4 gens left). Of course sometimes survivors were'nt that strong, but still they at least played DS/DH.

As a killer main (95%/5% killer/survivor). I do not know what to think about ? Am I delusional to think that survivors have advantages over the killer ? But my POV is biaised by the fact I only played killer since I started plyaing (around 200h)

I would like to know what do you think about this ? Does it prove that the game is not survivor sided ? What is your POV on that ? Please also let know other people which role you main !

    Uh...no, no he didn't.

I watched a good part of that stream and it depended entirely on which map he got and whether he was given a 'snack' group by SBMM or a strong SWF.

He got absolutely trounced in one of his Hag games for example, even when he resorted to facecamping and slugging.

Remember - BHVR are adding a mechanical change to discourage facecamping.

Beyond this - he's also Otz. The guy has thousands upon thousands of hours on killer, plays this game for a living and still has games where he gets absolutely rolled.

You can't possibly use him as a 'this game is killer sided' argument.

As he is bhvr partner, his opinion is always more of a subjective matter

I enjoy him. He manages to be human without being insufferable or toxic and does a lot of very entertaining or informative videos. I don't agree with him on everything - especially when he slips towards politics - but as far as DbD streamers go, he's really good.

    Don't.

Smurfing is a slow poison that completely kills games. I see too much of it already.

What you have to do, unfortunately, is continue battling it out and eventually you'll end up in the right spot MMR wise, barring the frequent games where you'll be thrown to a 10k hour SWF as a snack because they had a long queue time.

If you really want to, what you could do is try some funky builds/memes, like hooking everyone twice before killing anyone. Just get ready for a lot of teabagging and being told to uninstall in postgame.

  • No you didn't, but I'm not going to spend another hour going around in circles with you again.

    Franklin's Hoarder Pinhead Nerf...Why?

It's not busted at all. If you solve the box after using Franklin's, it respawns almost instantly compared to if you downed a survivor. Hoarder is barely useful on this build, as it buys you maybe an extra second or two if you are already in the perfect position.

This game cannot be balanced around solos and SWF, so it has to be balanced around SWF. Killers do actually need to be able to win sometimes too.

Shrug. That's on you then. Just remember - it's fine to be wrong, but when you stubbornly stick to your guns despite people spelling out in great detail why you are wrong and your only response is 'no u' - then you really are just embarrassing yourself. And this is the case whenever anyone tries to have a discussion with you.

Your constant, ever changing 'x is fine, I play that killer' responses really do not contribute anything to a discussion besides derailing it.

Because it's entirely possible to really like something, but also point out it's flaws and give feedback on how to fix them.

Naturally, this is the internet - so any feedback you agree with is amazing and if the devs don't implement it immediately they clearly don't care about their game, and any feedback you disagree with is whining and should probably just get people permabanned.

Tf are you on about? I was on about why this forum has more killers complaining compared to survivors

And I was trying to explain the reason.

Killers have a lot of legitimate gripes. The role is stressful, and a big part of that stress comes from some areas of this game that are poorly designed, outdated or imbalanced. Combine that with how BM survivors generally are, and you get one role that is becoming increasingly frustrated. They then come to the forums to express that frustration and suggest ways to improve things.

Aren't you the guy that pops up in basically every thread and goes 'no, x killer is totally fine, I main that killer trust me'?

    Just...stop.

When one side of your game is incredibly unhappy with how things are, then it's usually an indication that something needs to change.

Part of that change is going to be balance related. Part of that change is going to be moderating this community and getting rid of the chuds.

Yep. A lot of killers just want much easier games. This is also why they complain about MMR so much. Killer isn't that hard (unless you get a VERY good SWF team). It's kinda funny seeing all these threads at this point, though. Very entertaing to read.

    Easier =/= Fairer.

We want fairer games. Stop matching 10k hour fully stacked stompcomps up against killers with a few hundred hours. Fix the maps so that you can't just loop a killer for 5 minutes on a pseudo-infinite because you got a lucky window spawn. Bring all killers up to Plague level.

It's also pretty amusing how you constantly claim to play killer, and yet - whenever you pop up - you make me think of Elmer Fudd in a rabbit disguise.

If you want to disagree, explain your reasons. Otherwise, you're just that 'git gud' meme.

This forum is the gathering spot for a lot of salty killers who aren’t as good as they think they are. Survivors don’t come here because all the killers just scold them for having an opinion

    The name is sheer irony.

It's not a matter of 'being good'.

When I can play 10 matches out with the same build, same level of skill and same style, but:

    • Stomp game 1 because I got queued into newbies on DDS
    • Get stomped in 2 because I'm playing Pig and got sent to Haddonfield, The Game or Badham
    • Win 2 because a survivor DCed the second I down them
    • Get stomped in 1 because someone is hacking/lag switching
    • Win 1 because survivors couldn't find the hooked survivor/boxes in RPD
    • Win 1 because survivors got unlucky with boxes and their heads exploded
    • Get stomped in 2 because I got queued into a fully stacked SWF with 10,000 hours between them to my 300

Then my lack of enjoyment doesn't come down to 'play better' - it comes down to design problems and the community.

Do you count adrenaline as exhaustion. That's the only one of that set I would hit and it's a hard maybe. I hold M1 because no teammates can seem to understand the concept.

Adrenaline? Yep. It's one of the absolute strongest perks in the game, imho - and I run it basically every game. If you survive until gen completion, you've already escaped.

  • @Pizzasauce said:

Could you give a tutorial and/or advice to those who are stuck in the ways of camping? They are oh so lost and in need of guidance.

    Sigh.

Hey Pizza, let me see if I can shine a light on this for you, as you are somewhat new. This may come over as harsh, but that's not my intention.

    • Certain killers (Trapper, Bubba and a few others) have kits that feel designed for camping, and not camping to some degree is almost playing the game wrong.
    • Facecamping is nasty, and BHVR are working on a mechanics change to prevent it. However, proxy camping is entirely legitimate and just how this game plays out sometimes. If I've got a survivor hooked in a corner, then me not patrolling past them or trying to predict and catch incoming survivors is essentially throwing the game.
    • On some killer/map combinations, camping can be the only way to secure a kill. I personally don't facecamp (unless someone BMs me) - with the exception of the EOGC if I've got 0 kills. It actually turns the 'endgame' into an endgame. A crisis point for the survivor team where they need to choose whether to risk themselves or abandon their comrade. I think this is totally fine.
    • Facecamping at 4gens is about as much fun for the killer as it is for the survivors. When a killer is doing this, it's generally because they feel that there is no other playstyle that has a reasonable chance of working. It may be that they've had a bad run of matches, got a terrible map for their build/killer or have been thrown into an SWF with infinitely more experience than them.

When players start resorting to an unfun, tedious playstyle, that generally suggests that the balance of your game is squiffy.

  • @Dino7281 said:

I would argue about unfun to play.

I enjoy watching survivor's head explode.

It can be satisfying, sure - but I'm very much the sort of person that when I win I prefer it being a matter of me playing better than my opponent and not them rolling a 1. Ditto, I don't mind losing games where I go 'yeah, if I'd done x rather than y that would have been different' but the games were it feels like I had no chance, or were a matter of 'yeah, I picked the wrong killer for this map' are a motivation killer.

It's probably because I was a Starcraft 2 demon for many, many years.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2678940#Comment_2678940

    That's fair.

It is quite boring if you do gens, my main suggestion was to have a build and play-style that just has you bullying killers by running around them constantly and preventing them from downing people.

It's surprisingly fun and lucrative to bully (no teabags though).

Honestly, it comes down to perks and variety.

Every killer is like playing a different game, and killer perks (at least the non-crap ones) are well designed - they make you play differently, take risks, choose to do or not do certain things and have counterplay.

A game on Hag with Surge+PR+STBFL+Devour Hope will be entirely different than a game on Hag with Sloppy+Nurse's+Ruin+Monitor.

Survivor perks on the other hand...aside from a handful mostly amount to 'I have a third health state', 'I do gens faster', 'I can stun the killer once', 'I can see auras', 'I heal faster'. There's not much decision making, risk or counterplay and there are also a few that are so powerful that not using them feels like you are playing the game wrong.

I play the odd survivor game, and it's definitely more relaxing - but quickly becomes tedious. As a killer, I have to think about 8 different things at once. Do I chase? What tiles are nearby? Where are the other survivors? Do I hook here or try for a better position? Do I force the pallet here or try to mindgame? Defend Ruin or disrupt the gen? Do I focus on killing this survivor or do I break off and try to get more people injured? Do I pop this gen or let it get finished and try to force a 3gen? Break the pallet or trap it?

As a survivor it's - do I greed, do I hide or do I run?

    It's night and day.

  • @ShadowNurseZFX said:

just got called a no skill killer cuz i tunneled.

    No.

Tunneling is how killers are meant to play.

If you try to 2 hook everyone, you're either going to lose horribly or got mismatched.

Survivors have numerous perks to counteract 'tunneling' and it's generally just sour grapes.

I’ve just never understood why killers would want a team that doesn’t know what they’re doing. That’s kind of like taking candy from a baby or, babies in that matter.

    Don't strawman.

It's not any more fun to stomp lowbies than it is to get stomped by monsters.

Winning or losing is fine. What we want is close, balanced and fun games - and not having to camp out a survivor during EOGC to secure a kill because someone sent Trapper to Haddonfield.

The problem is that MMR likes to throw you to the monsters as a snack because they had a long queue time, and that survivor groups tend to be extremely ungracious when they win.

There is almost a soft expectation for the killer to give the last survivor gate/hatch, to the point where not doing so is widely considered to be BM. Whenever I don't do this, it's almost a guarantee that I'll get cussed out in postgame.

There is no expectation whatsoever for the reverse - I think I've been given a 'pity kill' twice in my 300 hours odd of playing killer, once because someone was lag-switching with No Mither and once because a survivor was legitimately embarrassed by the behavior of their SWF.

Not to mention that - if you play killer - you'll have survivors teabagging, flicking and hanging around in the exit gates to try and do the 'nope, get stuffed loser' last second 'heres a charity hit, no just kidding lul' thing. Every single match, without fail.

Double standards frustrate people, especially when they are always at the greasy end.

    @ReverseVelocity said:

I honestly think it's because there are more killer players on the forums, to be honest.

    I'd probably agree.

    The thing is - why?

People generally come to the forums because they are unhappy with some aspect of the game. When this consists overwhelmingly of one side, it's an indication that something is badly wrong with your game.

  • @Dino7281 said:

Pinhead feels like more RNG than pig for me...

Pinhead has RNG, especially if you are going for the 'find the box first' gimmick with LP. But it's not overwhelming unless survivors misplay and you are able to chain hunts together. He also has a lot of map dependency - certain maps turn him into essentially an M1 killer.

Pig's RNG is worse, as with certain addons a match can be a 3k within 5 minutes of starting or a 4-out depending entirely on where boxes spawn and which ones survivors go to first. It's unfun to play and play against.

  • @Chilli_man2400 said:

I’ve been seeing a lot of threads about crybaby’s quitting this game and saying it’s survivor sided not fun stressful. There’s a way to make your games fun again. Make them suffer make them wish they were dead!

play as Bubba with insidious and basement camp the ######### out of them.

slug every survivor you see don’t hook them when all 4 are slugged then you start hooking them

tunnel and camp them all to death! Try not to camp as much(unless your leatherface) and tunnel the ######### out of them don’t be afraid of DS just eat it and move on.

Sorry about this rant I’m just angry about these annoying threads of killers whining I’m just suggesting how to make it more fun for them

Fighting fire with fire is a good way to burn the entire house down.

I'd rather just take a hiatus for a while, start working on my ever-growing backlog of other games and maybe check back in at the next patch to see if they've made teabagging cause people's monitors to explode or something.

  • @kingsparda97 said:

I'm very curious as to why nobody bats an eye when a killer DCs but if a survivor does it they are the scum of the earth.

Because, due to the mechanics of the game - there is a difference.

Firstly, if a killer DCs, the match ends. Move onto the next one. If a survivor DCs, now it's going to be a miserable, unfun game for everyone.

Secondly, survivor DCs are overwhelmingly rage DCs at the start of the game. Killer rage DCs usually happen either at the end or when survivors are holding the match hostage (99%ing the final gen and then playing hide and seek/bodyblock sabo games for an hour). The only time I've seen a killer DC at the start was when someone dropped a Haddonfield offering onto a Pig.

That said - I don't DC. I'll very occasionally just AFK a match if it's an obvious bully squad (SWF with stacked addons, a map offering and further hook offerings is usually an indication that a team isn't just trying to win, they want to hurt you) or if a team is refusing to end the game.

Then don’t cry and complain about how the game is survivor sided and killers are weak when I’m offering the key to help save killers from going extinct(I sound nuts but it’s true every killer is leaving)

This may sound harsh, but you are putting a Band-Aid on a broken arm.

The core issues with killer are:

    • Map imbalance. Badham, Haddonfield, Grim Pantry, Cowshed, Heaven and probably more I'm missing can be a nightmare on the wrong killer. It's not so much a size issue, as it is a density and proximity of strong loops and pseudo-infinites. Breakable walls can't be the end-all answer.
    • Boons were a terrible idea and should never have gone live as-is. At the very least, snuffing a boon should destroy that totem.
    • Dead Hard was the most meta of meta perks before the 'fix' (see: buff). Shifting the validation issues to killer makes this a defacto third health state that also constantly feeds killers fake hits.
    • More than half the killer roster feels neglected and either has an outdated kit, awful addons or both.
    • Survivors being BM. I think a lot of killer woes would vanish overnight if BHVR started moderating their game more. I know that strobing flashlight macros destroy me, and my photosensitivity issues are pretty mild.
    • MMR not adjusting for SWF groups and throwing killers into SWFs with 10x their hours because they waited in the queue for a bit.

I think that a lot of survivor players are happy to talk and play with their friends rather than use the forums. Killer is always 1 player so it gets understandably lonely.

You could look at it that way, but you'd think that by the law of averages you'd see as many survivor focused complaint posts on the forums.

Aside from Sluzzy posts, the only ones I see are 'I see too many Blights and Nurses at high MMR' or 'camping/tunneling is bad'.

Killers on the other hand will pen entire theses on how to improve the game.

  • @Pulsar said:

    The answer is yes.

Killer is extremely stressful when all players in the match know what they are doing. This causes players to burn out fast.

    There is no argument.

It's half this, and half the sheer number of gloating, BM survivors that aren't satisfied with just winning - they want to hurt killer players.

If you are already a strong SWF group, stacking addons and a map offering just to roll, flicky flicky and teabag people, you are basically driving killers to quit.

I've had survivors in postgame state this this is their goal.

    @[Deleted User] said:

Probably because if survivors made that type of post there would be a lot of killer mains attacking them telling how wrong they think they are. This forum is mostly killer mains, i believe this.

    Possibly.

    But...think of it this way.

There are more survivor players than killer players by a mile. One side is happily teabagging away in game, the other side are on the forums expressing their frustration.

That in and of itself indicates a problem with the role.

This isn’t a tier list but just my overall thoughts on all 26 killers in DBD

Trapper: I like trapper a lot right now. He is very fun to play as and fun to fight against. My only issue with him is how much the game encourages basement trapper. I’d rather give trapper the means to set up his traps around the map quicker. His lore is fairly boring but not the worst

Wraith: I don’t really enjoy playing wraith tbh. His kit is simple and doesn’t have much of a skill ceiling. I think he’s a good spot right now though barring the unnecessary nerf to his post cloak speed boost. Wraiths archive is definitely one of the best and adds to his short base lore perfectly

Hillbilly: What a shame. I enjoy playing billy but it feels like all the effort you put into him is wasted when the reward isn’t even that good. It is still very satisfying to hit curves though and he is my favourite of the OG killers. His lore is probably the best of the OG killers and is almost a reversed version of the killer he is based on which is cool.

Nurse: I ######### hate this killer with every fabric of my being. She ignores everything that makes looping fun to me and everyone who plays her acts like they are in a tournament. Doesn’t help that the devs thought she needed triple blink back. Her lore is boring to me as well

Myers: Myers is what every licensed killer should be imo. He invokes the essence of Myers as a character and there’s a reason he’s still popular despite him being weak. I personally don’t enjoy playing him though because his power feels very too basic for me to enjoy it

Hag: Hag is a weird one. Her playstyle is so different from most killers that it is just inherently unfun to a lot of people. As for me I enjoy her decently though I rarely play her. She definitely needs some form of anti camping measures though. Hag’s lore is a complete mess that not even BHVR understands

Doctor: I feel I’m one of the few who doesn’t mind playing against doctor. I never really try to be stealthy so his tracking doesn’t bother me and his anti loop while annoying wastes a lot of time on his end to get the hit. As for playing him I don’t hate it but if I want anti loop I’ll just play clown. His lore is solid and I enjoy how the brought the elements of Chinese doctor Yang Yongxin and MK ultra/CIA experiments into his character.

Huntress: Probably the best designed killer BHVR has made. She has counterplay from survivors but the chase is still in the huntress’ control. She feels fun to play but I suck with her. Only thing I’d change is make her hitboxes a bit more accurate. Huntress’ lore is pretty cool and I like how they brought some Russian folklore into her character with the lullaby she hums

Bubba: I like Bubba a lot actually. He’s fun to fight (so long as he isn’t facecamping) and is fun to play. He’s the perfect beginner killer but also has a deceptively high skill ceiling. Like Myers he perfectly invokes Bubba as a character and I wouldn’t really change him at all. His lore is also an interesting look into bubba’s mind

Freddy: Probably the saddest killer in the game at the moment. What was once probably the most accurate licensed killer is now just a boring shell of what he used to be. If anyone here genuinely likes new Freddy I’d love to hear why because I can’t think of any reason anyone would want him over the old one. I’m not mentioning licensed lore for the most part but Freddy’s is worth mentioning since it’s kinda a mini sequel to the film and is pretty well written. Give it a read if you haven’t already

Pig: I hate this killer. Her power is essentially just rng with very mediocre anti loop and downright terrible stealth. All the boop the snoot jokes are painfully unfunny and as someone who has never watched saw I don’t have any connection to Amanda as a character. Also I still have nightmares about tampered timer and crate of gears.

Clown: My main since 2019 and my favourite killer of all time. Clown on the surface seems simple but when you start playing him more complexity in his power starts to show. A lot of people like to rag on his rework but I think it’s great. It gave him more anti loop and a higher skill ceiling with the opportunity for survivors to turn his power against him. Playing each loop as him feels unique and I feel like I’m learning a new bottle placement each match. His lore is very good and his archive combines comedy and horror in the way a clown killer should.

Spirit: Spirit is actually in a mostly good spot now. She’s still very strong but now leaves room for survivors to make meaningful decisions. I still don’t enjoy playing her but fighting against her isn’t a chore anymore. Props to all the people who stuck with her. Spirit’s lore is decent though I haven’t read her archive yet

Legion: Probably the second most boring killer. Legions power feels like a half finished PTB version and their lore is pretty boring too. I really don’t have anything else to say

Plague: Plague is a great killer at the moment and my first P3 killer. The buffs were very nice and she has a steep learning curve without feeling unfair to either side. Her vomit hitbox could do with a bit of work though but otherwise she’s perfect. Her lore is some of the best written by BHVR and I love how the entity has a strong connection to her

Ghostface: Since Ghostface is supposedly getting changes soon I’ll keep this brief. Ghostface is just kinda boring to me. He’s very similar to Myers but his power cooldown makes him annoying to play as. His add ons are garbage too. His lore is actually really good though and could make for a great scream film using Danny’s character

Demo: Demo is another great killer. He’s very fun to play and feels like a jack of all trades master of none. Too bad we’ll be seeing less of him :(. I like how versatile he is and I feel like any perk build works on him.

Oni: Oni from a lore/design standpoint is BHVR’s best work bar none. His lore is the best written imo and his design conveys his power perfectly. Speaking of his power it’s one of my favourites in the game. It has a high skill ceiling but can end a game in 1 use if played correctly. Now that topknot is nerfed I really have no complaints good job BHVR!

Deathslinger: I’m just sad about what happened here. I’m not going to say I enjoyed fighting deathslinger but I would revert it just so slinger mains could actually have fun again. He feels clunky as hell and like you’re playing in slow motion at all times. Everything from his cooldown, reload, aiming and general speed is just slow. Not to mention his skill ceiling is insane for little reward. At least his lore/aesthetic is my favourite of any killer (yes even more than clown).

Pyramid head: I don’t really care too much about PH. His ability to tunnel is annoying but his POTD is a fairly fun chase power. I think it could be worth testing hook perks working on PH just to see how it would work.

Blight: Probably the last great killer we’ve got. Blight fits into the lore of DBD perfectly and his power feels very natural to him. His add ons could do with some rebalancing though especially Alchemist ring. I don’t play him because I don’t want to invest so much time to get good with him but I respect anyone who does.

Twins: I’m going to be crucified for this but I actually like twins a lot. They are a very unique concept so i give BHVR a bit of leeway in their issues. They are very fun to play as when things go your way but certain Perks make their life a living hell. COH and exponential especially hurt them and make it essentially impossible to play them. BHVR’s neglect for them hurts a lot though especially in the cosmetics department (literally 1 set in a year).

Trickster: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J5MzhjswDmo (I’m not talking about trickster players only the character himself)

Nemesis: The most boring killer to date. How could they turn such a cool character with so many different abilities into such a boring one with a generic anti loop power. God I feel like I’m turning into Darktyrant

Pinhead: Pinhead is just fine imo. He gets the job done and is pretty accurate to his source material. He has a good skill ceiling and his power is pretty unique. The rng on his box can be annoying though especially in solo queue when your teammates make it into the “how long you can survive the chain hunt” game

Artist: Meh. She’s another anti loop killer with an info gimmick. I don’t hate her she just feels like more of the same. Her lore isn’t helping when it’s essentially just every female killers lore X10

And that’s it. I’d love to hear your opinions on any of the killers as well!

Assume a non-mention is an agreement.

Trapper - Yes. Far too many killers have a kit that essentially feels like 'this is designed for camping'. Trapper's big problem is RNG on trap spawns and setup time on some maps.

Wraith - The nerf was entirely unneeded. CoH and the adjustment to All Seeing would have brought him down significantly. Now he feels awful to play.

Nurse - She needs a complete teardown overhaul. In 4/5 matches, she gets rolled. Then you get the 1000 hour Nurse that is unstoppable. She's too streaky, difficult to learn and almost impossible to counter once you master her.

Hag - People overrate her (me included). Back in the day, she was a monster. Now...people know how to play around her, to set off traps safely and to abuse her immobility. Her addons are also bleh.

Doctor - Badly needs an addon pass. Far too many are funky, but useless. His shocks need their validation adjusted because they just totally fail to work 1/3 of the time.

Bubba - Another teardown job. If you aren't camping, you'd better hope you are crazy good, survivors forget how to abuse vaults and you don't get the wrong map.

Pig - She'd be so easy to fix by simply reducing her terror radius to 24 and fixing her addons which tend to be frustrating RNG gimmicks that either do nothing or straight up kill people because they got unlucky. Her crouch/lunge ones should be made baseline.

Plague - Blindingly perfect killer, should be the balance target for all killers.

Demo - So close to being great. Against random groups he's astonishingly fun - but wow can he get rolled when you face survivors that know what they are doing. Shreds are too telegraphed and way too easy to juke. If they increased the 'speed' of shreds and maybe souped up some of his crappier addons (0.5 seconds added to undetectable as a green addon feels like a typo) he'd be perfect.

PH - Good kit, desperately needs a complete addon rework though. Most of them are boring or borderline useless.

Trickster - Massive waste of potential. He doesn't feel 'tricky', and also feels like he wandered in from an entirely different genre of games. His kit is literally impossible to balance, and people hate playing against him.

Nemesis - Give him a third zombie.

Cenobite - Badly needs some help somewhere in his basekit (making chains not useless indoors would be a great start). His addon nerfs were absolutely nuts, leaving the one problematic addon mostly intact and nerfing all the fun ones to the ground. He's a great pubstomper but falls over on certain maps versus decent groups.

Artist - I really like her, but she's just...clunky. All the hitching reminds me of pre-rework Plague. Her purple and iri addons feel like an afterthought and need to be completely reworked.

Are we not allowed to play with friends? Do I really deserve to get banned because I like to play survivor with people I usually hang out with? It makes no sense and it’s nauseating to hear.

I have over 1300 hours in this game and have never complained about SWFs in my killer games. If I lose, I either get annoyed by the map, bugs, or I just come to realization that I didn’t play well enough. It’s not survivors’ faults for wanting to play with their friends.

Sorry for the rant, but as someone who probably has more bias towards killer than survivor, I really get annoyed hearing that SWF is off limits.

The issue isn't so much SWFs as it is:

    • SWFs being matched against the same caliber of killers you were facing solo. That's where massive stomps come from, which are motivation destroyers on killers.
    • SWFs are where the really unpleasant games come from - bully squads that will just refuse to end the game and meme on you for 30 minutes, or will play hide and seek for an hour because they gave you a 3 gen.

Certain killers would have to be nerfed if SWF was thrown away.

    Two killers. Maybe.

That leaves a ton of killers that need to be buffed if SWF is allowed to continue.

The biggest issue is that the devs think that playing in an SWF is the exact same as playing solo, and don't do what other games do which is inflating your MMR when you play as a coordinated squad.

    Understanding and fun read.

Whenever you come back, try survivor. It's much more enjoyable of a role I find. Especially when you run builds like Bond, Mettle of Man, Boon: Circle of Healing, and We're Gonna Live Forever. You'll be raking in 40-60k BP per game easily without even needing to survive.

Just don't solo gens. Instead, run around and body block the killer, take a hit, run back to your boon to heal and repeat. I only learned recently that you can proc Mettle of Man multiple times per game, which is hilarious when you pull it off.

The best part is you don't even need good solo queue team mates for this.

    ---

Renounce the art of murder, and join me on the dark side as a current survivor main.

I've tried playing survivor, but I just find the role...boring?

It's so static and doesn't really change game to game or even with different perk combinations - at least not much.

Often the chuds are so desperate for attention that they'll poke out, think I've gone AFK, hit a trap and...sometimes a surprise.

My strategy is sometimes to pick off the better players first (if it makes sense), and there have been times when the one person who escapes is by far the worst player, but they still BM at the gate. Really? Do you have no self awareness?

Or it you're the only survivor who escapes at all, you think you are slick with your whole team dead?

    Mm.

For me, if I see an SWF (especially a TTV) in the lobby, I'll dodge if I'm not playing Hag (the only killer I can really handle strong groups on).

Sometimes, those games are okay. Every so often you'll also get a bunch of newbies in a group together and I'll have panicked for nothing.

When I start to worry though is when it's an SWF and they switch to items at the last second and bring an offering for Haddonfield or Badham - because I know that these are groups who are just out to hurt you.

For instance, earlier I ran into a TTVer (I used to dodge them on principle, but I'll usually give it a shot now as I've had some fun games recently with TTVers). Haddonfield offering. Oh crapola - I've got a Surge+Scourged Hooks 'experimental' build, this is going to be rough.

Sure enough, it's a total bully squad. BNP, PTS, a fat medkit and a juiced flashlight - naturally stacked meta perks. Running the map like they've planned this out beforehand. Teabag flicky flicky constantly. I fought to the end and got 1-2 hooks on all of them and 1 dead (the TTVer) after I hooked and camped him at EOGC (I'm happy to camp if I've got 0 kills once gates are open). Very, very nearly turned the game around at several points, but just too many Dead Hards and ridiculously fast flashlights taking out my traps..

    I check their profiles - sure enough, 3man SWF with 1500+ hours a piece (I've got 300).

    Postgame:

Me: Whew, that was a tough one. Wrong build for Haddonfield. Well played.

TTV: LUL camping dog killer uninstall

    Friend 1: Trash killer

    Friend 2: GGEEEEEEEZ

Me: Dude, you've got 5x my hours and I came this close to beating you. Anyways, cheers.

TTV: Nah we were just memeing around bro and still schooled u lul

Friend 2: everyone thinks ur a joke EEEZZZZZ

And I lose another shred of my remaining hope for humanity.

  • Yes, yes she is. We are both consumate gamers, but we also enjoy very different genres.

    I'm an RPG/shooter/PvP/RTS/Tower Defense man.

She likes platformers, farming games and survival games. But we've played a lot of stuff together too - Heroes of the Storm, Diablo 3, Titan Quest, Don't Starve Together and Overcooked.

Understandable. You can always play survivor (also not perfect but less stressful to me at least) or play unconventional killer builds.

I rarely have a bad time with tp+jmm myers for example. I am not going for 4ks unless I encounter toxic teams. I usually let 2 people go to keep my mmr in check. It kinda feels good when bm'ing survivors just feed my power and someone dies because of it lul.

I am completely burned out of playing killer normally. Too much work because I love playing the weaker ones like pig and legion for example. And I am somewhat of a survivor main anyway even tho I played both. More hours on survivor.

Just don't force yourself to like the game if you don't.

DbD is like cigarettes. You put down the pack, swear it's over, then the next day you find yourself striking up without even realizing it. By the time you've finished your last smoke of the day, you put down the pack...ad infinitum.

Come back when there's a new licensed killer or when Epic game store ends. Either way go play a different game. Hollow Knight great and I just want to shill it.

The missus loves it and Ori, but my old eyes aren't really up to difficult platformers anymore :).

I would ask this of all players but I'm guessing the answers would all be camping/tunneling for survivors.

But Killers, what thing can a survivor or team do that will cause you to abandon all polite etiquette?

The obvious answer might seem to be teabagging/BMing (which I can easily ignore), but for me the one thing that will often lead me to drop all consideration for the survivor's "fun" is coordinated body blocking. Not the normal kind, but the absurd sort. When every time you pick up a survivor the whole squad is there crouching/blocking, all niceties are off.

It's not even all that effective when it comes to the final result of the game, it's just so damned tedious and annoying.

It used to be I'd sometimes run mad grit to counter this nonsense, but since the Trickster (and Starstruck), you don't see enough of this to justify running at all that often.

But I had teams do this to me twice tonight; the first time it was mildly effective (I got a 2k), the second I just slugged and bled out the whole team once it became obvious that they were going to swarm me at every pickup.

Teabagging and flicking - my patience has worn so thin with these people that I'm probably going to be stepping on the gas and if I have to camp, I'll camp. They are not making it out alive.

Coordinated bodyblocking I'm fine with, unless it's being done excessively for the sake of bullying, especially when you get those groups that will 99% the final gen and stall the game out just to show this off endlessly.

What really grates my cheese though are people who will be BM in the exit games or postgame. I totally sympathize with the occasional sore loser, but people who will gloat at you in a manner that would have them looking for their teeth if they did it after a pick-up game - chances are that for the rest of the evening, nobody I come up against will be having fun, and neither will I.
