There are firecrackers, flashlights, keys, maps, medkits, and toolboxes. Which of these items needs a buff and why?

unironically keys in general need changes. With the changes awhile ago to how hatch works and the new mori mechanic for killers it’s extremely common for killers to just slug at 2 people left making the key absolutely useless outside of using it for its aura reading which kinda sucks and other perks just do it better

I think survivor perk balance is tricky because, generally speaking, the community is very hostile towards survivor metas. Every time survivors get a new perk that has the potential to reach meta levels it is complained about, and the complaints remain until the perk is no longer seen.

That doesn't mean those perks were perfect, but those reactions happen and they have real consequences. You can see it clearly with Made for This and Circle of Healing, two perks that could have received very different changes and adjustments than the ones they've received.

So all that is left is to adjust the perks that we already have, but even that isn't easy to do. It is very difficult, if not impossible, to find a survivor meta which the community genuinely liked. The meta being dominated by the original iterations of Decisive Strike and Dead Hard was complained about, the DS + UB combo was complained about even in matches where it didn't have any use because the killer didn't tunnel or slug, Adrenaline was complained about even though it was not overpowered, and the list goes on.

It seems to me that the idea nowadays is to make every survivor perk equally mediocre, so you can run whatever you choose to run and not feel the difference. Unsurprisingly, one of the most used survivor perks these days is Windows of Opportunity, which was generally seen as a beginner perk in the past. Its effect is nowhere near as useful as other survivor perks used to be, but objectively it provides more than the entire sea of perks that are either extremely niche, or have been changed to a point where they are no longer good.

I agree here but if you go and look at the history of survivors meta the meta perks always had to be nerfed multiple times and the reason why in most cases is because even a nerfed version of something like Dead Hard is going to be more useful then something like Up The Ante because Dead Hard is just generally useful and helps in every game while Up The Ante is only useful in specific situations that are already unfavorable as you have to be hooked for it have an effect and even then a slight increase to the chance to unhook yourself is just not good compared to even nerfed versions of Dead Hard, Circle of Healing, and Distorsion just to name a few, hell it’s not even worth it compared to other perks that help you unhook yourself. The point is that these perks get complained about so often because they are in every damn game and even when they get nerfed they still show up in nearly every game causing them to get nerfed even more when the whole reason they are in every game is that there are so many perks that are just worthless and get 0 attention by the devs so why would you take anything else.

  • @Eleghost said:

There will always be lesser desired perks. Most perks have a niche or synergize with others. Problem with the meta is it's hard to say not to run a specific perk like say windows or an exhaust perk when they help way too much. Perks have been buffed but they still won't be used over the meta because they don't provide enough value.

I agree there will always be less valued perks but there is no excuse for perks like Left Behind, Up The Ante, and Open-Handed to be in the state they are in. That’s just asking for the meta to always be the same perks even if they get nerfed. BHVR really needs to start looking at the less valued perks and change them to be able to somewhat compete with the meta perks even if they aren’t on the same level.

Ah yes. Let's rush something. That we don't even know what they are going to be.

Instead of taking time to make sure everything is working as intended and not game crippling for one side or the other.

If almost every killer wasn’t tunneling and camping then it would be fine to wait but since nearly all of them are the changes need to come sooner

  • @myersmain_ said:

It’s so bs that survivors can break our hex’s and make our perks completely unusable, when they can keep using their boon perks all they want and keep blessing it over and over no matter how much it’s snuffed. Why tf do the devs do this when survivors can already heal each other, bring medkits, and find other ones in chests when theirs breaks?? I would like to think even you survivor mains would be smart enough to acknowledge how unfair that is.

If that’s the case then nerfing hex undying is utter bs. On dark maps it’s impossible to not have it spotted as it’s glowing fire. Not to mention that the devs made this game in a way that the hex totems ALWAYS spawn in wayyyyy more obvious places on the maps then the boon totems. It's not 'chance" its deliberate and annoying. Idc what anyone says, it's the truth. Hex undying plus the hex perk already takes up 2 places anyway, tf? Survivors boon perks only take up one spot to be permanent, or have the ability to be of blessed over and over. This game keeps doing nerf after nerf to killers and it’s bs. They nerf our ability to have a 1-hit down AT THE END OF THE GAME FOR F**** sake ! When survivors can run adrenaline which instantly heals a health state at the end of the game , and can’t be turned off. Hex undying was the ONLY thing that protected us killer from j having all of our perks go "bye bye!" ... This bs makes me j want to stop playing the game which is really sad because i’ve been waiting my whole life for a game like DBD cuz i’m such a horror movie fan. Thoughts?

The game has to be very survivor sided until behavior decides to make solo queue and swf more alike. Playing solo survivor is miserable especially with tunneling and camping still being allowed. Swf is what makes the game bearable for survivors because of communication. Until we getting stuff like a totem counter, kindred as basket without being able to see the killer, a way to know when other survivors are in chases, and an actual answer to tunneling, camping, and slugging then survivors need to op.

  • @stikyard said:

It's probably the number one complaint from the Killer side and rightfully so. There is no downside to this perk. It turns every chase into a 3 hit down. Hitting a skilled Survivor three times in a reasonable amount of time requires meta gaming on the Killer side or GG.

It needs a sublte nerf, I've been thinking about "Broken" status until you go down. At least this way if the Killer does give up chase, you will remain injured for the rest of the match essentially. If the Killer later picks up chase on you again, he won't have to three hit you again, only two.

It adds a slight negative effect which is better than nothing.

    Thoughts?

No. Survivor perks shouldn’t not be nerfed until tunneling and camping is addressed

  • @Souplet said:

If i have to be honest, mmr is a thing i despise in this game

But thinking about it, what prevents me to win against high skilled survivors ? The 30-45 seconds extended chases due to dead hard

Good survivors use it so well that it basically give them a 3rd hit for free

I'd lile bhvr to disable dead hard for a few days to see what game looks like

Dead hard cannot be touched until tunneling camping and noed is. Dead hard actually makes playing survivor fun when going against these stupid strats and noed which suck all the fun out of the game. Address those things first then nerf dead hard

  • @Brimp said:

When it's actually incentivized to go for chases instead of camping hooks.

So when you get banned for camping you mean? The devs have put incentives into the game to chase but that doesn’t matter since a lot of killers will just be like “I’m not good enough to win so I’m just gonna camp one guy to secure one kill”.

  • @Notionless said:

In patch 4.1.0 Billy got a rework. Instasaw was gutted, which was great, but in addition to that the overheat mechanic was implemented, designed to stop Hillbilly from spamming his chainsaw

    Most folks hated it.

I strongly believe that overheat is a mechanic that is completely unnecessary and should be removed as soon as possible.

    SPAMMING YOUR CHAINSAW

When a player is able to usw their chainsaw this much without losing, they should be rewarded, not punished for knowing map collision well and zoning/curving survs perfectly.

    THE 5 SEC STUN

The hillbilly already has a punishment for whiffing a chainsaw, one that puts the chase back to square one and gives the survivor quite a bit of distance. Thats already enough to make spamming your chainsaw carelessly a terrible idea.

    KIT COMPLEXITY

The hillbilly is on par with the nurse when it comes to the amount of things to learn. Map collision, curving, hell, even downing a moving target is something that needs practice. I have read several times now the notion that "backrevving", downing a survivor in a deadzone, is difficult, eventhough its something other killers like bubba dont even need to think about twice. Adding a layer of resource management on top of that is just not necessary.

    LEARNING THE HILLBILLY

It makes him even more uninviting to learn for new and seasoned players alike, which is unfortunate, considering that most survivors find Billy to be one of the most fun killers to verse. However, when even a seasoned veteran like scottjund feels that he embarrasses himself with billy i find it unlikely that anyone else would be willing to spend time learning how to utilise him.

Overheat needs to go as much now as instasaw needed to go back then.

I disagree. Buffing killers in anyway should not be happening until tunneling and camping is addressed

  • @supersonic853 said:

Is it not the best way to counter it? Because most of the time when it happens in soloq i see 2 survivors just bob and weaving around the hook trying to save and end up going down and giving bubba a 3k. Meanwhile im the unlucky one who actually wanted to escape ig. Am i missin somethin? (Normally i don't bring much attention to this but its been happenin a lot more lately so. Especially once people realized 2k is a draw for mmr so facecampin bubba actually works)

Because the game actively punishes you for doing that. You lose out on emblems and pips since the killer refuses to interact with the other players and you can’t get altruism since only one person is hooked and you can’t save them. Camping quite literally makes everyone lose

  • @Phasmamain said:

Hey, guess what? DH is bullshit.

Last game during EGC, Survivor A on hook and B on ground by the hook, NOED activated. Going for "Sacrifice 2 survivors during EGC with NOED" challenge, which is the only reason I even had it equipped.

Big shock, SWF sweat squad C and D charges the two downed survivors. C picks up B instantly by transfering health state, swing and both use DH. During attack cool down, survivor A is pulled of hook by D. Down the rescuer, during CD animation I'm blinded. Another health state is transfered, all 4 are up. Down C, who used her dead hard already. She gets picked back up instantly, and LO AND BEHOLD, DH IS BACK ON THE TABLE.

Your exhaustion timer shouldn't reset on hooks or the ground.

Edit: We were somewhat near gate, as that's where I downed A and B. I carried A as far as the wiggle timer would allow from door.

dh cannot be nerfed until camping and tunneling are addressed because that perk is one of the only ways to do anything against those strats

As a killer main let me ask you this. Do you think I enjoy camping? When i get in a chase and it lasts 45 seconds and 2 gens pop I'm literally left no choice. It's so boring to stare at someone and hope I get a grab. It's boring as all hell and it's why I Hate playing killer. They don't have to implement a anti camping mechanic if they just fix the balance and make it worth kicking gens and defending them

That just means you are bad. I have played a lot of killer and almost never had a chase last 45 seconds. If you are good there is never a reason to camp.

  • @ChampagnePapi said:

It was much more balanced when it depended upon the terror radius but now it doesn't anymore. I also hate how they can just body block you with borrowed when trying to hit the other survivor. Yeah Yeah I know to respect it but really I just hate it. I wish they reverted it and also make it to where you lose collision with the survivor that has the bt effect. Yeah Yeah borrowed time counters what survivors always complain about camping and tunneling.

It’s a necessary perk until the devs want to do something about camping and tunneling

  • @MrPeanutbutter said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2671674#Comment_2671674

do you play killer, like at all? For your “no tunneling” idea to work, killer needs to rotate through each survivor equally or waste whatever X amount of time you arbitrarily determine to not be tunneling. With current gens speeds, this is mathematically impossible. Are you OK buffing killers enough to where they can all reliably find and down a survivor every 30 seconds? Because that’s basically what it would take

You don’t need to buff killers to end chases that fast if gens speeds are nerfed too

  • @RainehDaze said:

Also, "killers have to be weak because they will abuse the unfair strategy of killing the weakest link first" is absurd.

This bizarre "it's not fair you're not killing me how I want to be killed" logic...

the whole problem with camping and tunneling is that is doesn’t allow people to play the game at all and even if you do escape you still depip because the killer refused to interact with anyone other then the person being camped

  • If you massively buff killers first every single survivor will quit the game. You need to do both at the same time. In one patch you need to get rid of camping and tunneling while also buffing killers

  • @EvilJoshy said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2671675#Comment_2671675

Your lying because any person who really plays killer knows tunneling and camping are made up survivor words.

I’m not lying but I guess you want to believe I am because my experience in the game doesn’t fit your narrative of “survior bad killer good”. I am trying to help both sides here and you are trying to kill the game for both sides for no reason by acting like this isn’t a problem

  • @RainehDaze said:

And how exactly do you propose to "get rid of tunnelling"? What even is your definition of tunnelling?

And do any survivors ever remember that the killer can only see total hooks, not hookstates?

Let the killers see hooksates then? No one would complain about that and it should be a thing to begin with. Also I consider tunneling the killer immediately going after a survivor that got unhooked and only going after them while ignoring every other survivor

  • @EvilJoshy said:

    Play killer for 24 hours

I have. I play a lot of killer and I have gotten to red ranks multiple times. You don’t need to camp and tunnel to do it

  • @SunsetSherbet said:

I mean if you do that without fixing the massive novel sized issue killers have with the game, it's a sure fire way to quadruple the already 5+ minute survivor queues.

This does fix the problem killers have though. You get rid of these things then killers can be buffed massively to actually be powerful again without having to abuse unfair strats

  • @Voodoo_Thirsty said:

There comes a point where you get so tired of seeing the same thing over and over again that you just want it gone some day.

    For me, that's Dead Hard.

I'm a 85 survivor, 15 killer main and even I get sick and tired of people running Dead Hard in EVERY SINGLE MATCH. I never use Dead Hard, but it never fails to surprise me to see that I'm the only in a 4 man team to not equip it. I see Ruin a lot less than Dead Hard at this point.

Change it, if you can't delete it. It's making every single match the same thing over and over again. I'd rather see them equip BT than that stupid DH.

They can’t change or delete it until they address camping and tunneling as dead hard is one of the only perks that does anything against those 0 skill anti fun strats.

  • @GannTM said:

So have you ever thought about the people that like her? We will never be able to play our favorite killer because of people like you.

Then people like you should be encouraging the devs to balance spirit so she is so anti fun and op.

  • @Myla said:

Nothing is especially more frustrating is when a bad killer gets rewarded and possibly even a 4K for doing this move. Run kindred and just do generators then get out. Don't even bother going for BT plays if it's a killer with a one hit move.

Sucks for the guy on hook but if I was on that position I'll be more frustrated if the killer got even more kills that way.

Problem is face camping forces every player in the game to get screwed because of how the emblem system works. The killer is refusing to interact with anyone other then the hooked survivor so that causes all surviors to get ######### on their evader and benevolent emblems.

  • It gives you more time before you get downed therefore making it harder for the killer to camp and tunnel you

  • @timetotalkabout said:

The whole perk is a 40 seconds second chance perk that the survivors can use endlessly, the killer outplayed you? HA ######### you I press E and you got outplayed, omg you will catch me! don't mind me pressing E and reach the pallet/window I shouldn't have reached extending the chase for X/Y seconds, oh you trapped the doorway, HA ######### you i'll run over it, you plan to shock the ground on my feet to stop me from using the pallet? ha ######### you i'll totally ignore your power and drop it anyway, i'll run back into you and dash at your body but your weapon dissapeared during it, I'll 99% my healing and loop you until I use dead hard to reach a pallet and heal while you break it making it a 3 health state chase.

This perk is beyond broken and OP in every single way when using at the right places, yes it's totally useless when used in the open, the killer just have to wait it out, but in loops, this perk is simply overpowered, it should either be nerfed hardcore like it should or be removed/changed, it's simply too strong.

And every high rank survivors who are the most skilless ones use this perk because they are so bad they can't live without a second chance perk, talk about bieng insecure about their skills, gotta use a jailfree card if they ######### up.

It’s a necessary evil as long as the devs refuse to address camping and tunneling

  • @Triadequinaxor said:

Scott jund, otzdarva and over countless good players have said this, even korean dbd agrees as far as im concerned, perks that are too strong that reward bad gameplay, such as deadhard, oh okay you got hit? hes a free dash that isnt only a dash but also makes you invulnerable even if ur animation still hit??? lol what, is the entity on the survivors side? or the killers side?. Every match, i see borrowed time, Ds, Deadhard, all these second chance perks, and i as the killer use none, these shouldnt even exist, just make borrowed time basekit and leave DS, but Dead hard should either be removed or be a once per trial use.

Here is a saying that still exists a year from today:

Just pressure the Survivors, but make sure you never slug because they'll have Unbreakable, make sure you're never near a hook when a save happens because they'll have BT, make sure you never try to chase anyone for 60 seconds after they get unhooked because they'll hop in a locker and have DS, and make sure you never make a single mistake at a loop (or try to punish their mistake at a loop) because they'll just Dead Hard to the next loop. And make sure you're pressuring extra hard because they can just bring 4 green toolboxes with BNP and finish Gens in about 30 seconds.

those perks exist because if they didn’t the game would be a living hell especially for solo survivors as so many killers face camp and tunnel

  • @Reinami said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2475072#Comment_2475072

Correct, this is literally the point of NOED. In high level play, the chase to gen speed ratio is heavily in favor of survivors. This game is balanced around the idea that survivors are scared of the big bad killer, are scared to do gens, sneak around, loot chests, and do totems. As soon as survivors realize they don't have to roleplay that, balance goes out the window. NOED exists as a way to FORCE survivors to do another objective besides slam generators as fast as possible.

Look at it this way, if you want, i can show you the math. But if a survivor does nothing but hold w, uses no pallets, no windows, no mindgames, no nothing, just pure simple shift + w, it will take the killer 47 seconds to down that survivor. Factor in the time it took to find them, pick them up, find a hook, walk to the hook, and hook them. You probably just took around 65-70 seconds. Generators take 80 seconds. You literally can't end chases fast enough. Now factor in pallets, and windows, and tons of second chance perks.

NOED exists as a threat so survivors need to take a pause on slamming those generators to look for totems and do them. If they don't, they run the risk of NOED. This is the nature of it existing. It is the killer version of DS or BT. Killers basically have to assume a survivor is running DS, or the one who just got unhooked has BT. The power of DS isn't in actually running the perk, it is just the fact that the perk exists. The same is true for NOED.

Survivors have 16 perks among them, all it takes is for 1 of you to dedicate a slot for finding totems and to have 1 of you prioritize doing those totems in the early to mid game. 1 survivor, not 4, just 1, 1 perk slot. You don't even need to dedicate a perk slot if you don't want, you can use a map. Hell, you could also run inner strength, so you can also get a free heal as well.

    Point being.

    JUST

    DO

    BONES

See the problem with this is you are acting like every game is a 4 man swf on comms but in reality the vast majority of games is solo survivor and in those cases you have to bring the best perks to ensure your survival and your survival alone because you are not in an swf. Perks that help with totems are sub optimal for solo surviors.

Lets say you play Myers you mindgame a survivor at a pallet your about to hit them but they dead hard into you and het the stun, now most people say wait it out now now Lets say the Myers waits hè gets stunned so hé had to go for the down, you all complain about slinger and spirit not having counter play but this is in the game and if all 4 survivors have dead hard wich at Red tanks is not uncommen you have no choice and it leads to bestond frustrating games anybody willing to debater me on this please do in open to my mind being changed

Dead hard doesn’t get nerfed until tunneling and camping are addressed. There are 4 perks that cannot be touched right now as the current amount of campers, sluggers, and tunnelers is skyrocketing lately and those 4 perks are: Borrowed time, dead hard, Unbreakable, and decisive strike.

I don’t understand people’s mindset nowadays. DBD is marketed as an asymmetrical PvP Horror game. Both sides have different goals and they have to reach their goals to win.

As a Killer, I’m supposed to guarantee you to leave the match dead. As a Survivor, I’m supposed to leave the game via exiting the exit gates.

I happen to come across some laughable and to be Frank, popular unreasonable criticism. It sounds selfish, but as a killer, I do not need to meet your rules. I never ever read your personal ToS and agreed to it right before the game started.

My job is to kill you. I don’t care if you don’t like me tunneling or camping during one time or another. It’s admittedly an optimal strategy since it helps me reach my final goal.

I don’t like being tunneled or camped either, but sometimes the killer needs to do it to get the upper hand, which is absolutely understandable. So yeah, I dislike many things in DBD, but it doesn’t mean I need to obey or satisfy the other side.

Just thought I had to get this off, since many people are under the impression that camping and tunneling are super cowardly strategies, when they’re in fact very optimal strategies that are required in many situations to win.

Last but not least, a couple of the issues people have with DBD are from their ego’s being recently hurt, not actual core issues within the game itself, I.E Camping & Tunneling. Just because you don’t like something, doesn’t mean there’s anything particularly wrong with it.

Genrush away, it’s your goal after all. I have perks and add-ons to try to slow down that process that is required for you to win, just like you do for camping & tunneling. To both sides, stop verbally abusing people in the post-match chat and realize that putting arbitrary rules on the other side is simply silly & stupid.

I agreed with you until you said that there are times you need to tunnel and camp. There is never a reason to tunnel or camp unless you are just that bad at killer that you need to in order to get one kill or you are intentionally trying to piss players off and ruin their day.

You think what you want I don't count it especially if you end a trial with 10k escaping through hatch and the others are in the 20s. lol 7k of your points is the hatch escape so otherwise would be 3k.... Goes both ways, both sides can be asses, but that doesn't mean that one side in particular is destroying the game.

We can’t ask the devs to fix the gameplay. Just asking, as in the 3 years I've been playing ive been slugged to bleed out maybe 5 times? I play on xbox also.

As killer i ran a meme slugging build once on freddy and felt so bad i let them regroup. Then apologized.

Camped is another story. I have been facecamped mainly by grey rank killers and camped i would say because my team never punished the killer for it.

Ive been punished by the game itself (spawning right next to the killer) more than I've been punished by 'toxic' killers.

All different killers and I play with cross play on. 6 of the 8 were pc killers

It's improved quite a bit my end now, but to start with there were some players who chose to play killer and seem to have ramped up these behaviours, which I'm assuming has spmething to do with the celebrations, since I've barely seen true face-camping and tunnelling in ages, and previous slugging happened purely because the opportunity was presented to the killer by bad survivor play.

However, as unfortunate as your experience was, the vast majority of killers play fairly (as in not act like this on purpose, not being nice to survivors). With luck, your next string of trials will feel more balanced.

Well the next game I got into was against a trapper who hardcore camped and tunneled one guy in the basement

  • How? A survior is not forcibly taking the killer out of the game without any kind of a chance because they wanted to face camp. A surviors can’t force a killer to be on the ground until they bleed out

    Sincerely, every killer.

Same way surviors are supposed to counter tunneling camping and slugging

Look, the changes are appreciated, the ones that matter anyway.

But this would have been a time to let us know you're listening to us console players. Yet again you give us silence for an issue you promised to resolve 2 years ago ( 3 years when winter 2021 rolls around. )

At every opportunity you've had to let us know you're at least working on it you've not said a damn word.

Sure, the extreme lag will be resolved at some point within the next month or so. At least I can only hope you'll resolve it that soon. But the overall console issues will still persist even after that's fixed.

At this point all I want is an acknowledgement that you are trying to fix what you promised to. But with how long y'all have been silent, just about all I can do at this point is hope.

It’s not up to bhvr if console gets bug fixes, it’s up to Microsoft and Sony. They force developers to have patches ready a long time in advance so they can approve them and after they are approved they can’t make any changes to said patch. If Microsoft and Sony don’t care about the bugs getting fixed they won’t get fixed since the patches won’t get approved. So blame those two ######### scum bag companies that legitimately only care about money instead of blaming bhvr for everything

I also feel that, survivors start to realize slowly by time that just running forward without looping is against most Killers just the smartest strategy. The problem with it is, it is a very boring strategy which removes all kind of skill play in the game but yet it is the most effective one.

But the big question is, how do you want to adress it? Scott Jund made the suggestion to just reduce the map size and reduce the basic M1 hit cooldown and ofc nerf Save the best for last to compensate that which is a good idea imo.

Dont know if that is really the best solution but I agree that this problem needs to be adressed before it is getting abused too often.

If we are gonna nerf holding w then tunneling and camping need to go as well.

If they're bad, then, surely, you have time to cleanse totems.

Sometime you do sometimes you don’t. Remember this is solo queue I’m talking about and I’m not gonna be able to go and cleanse 5 totems solo while my team is doing gens. This is why we need a totem counter base kit that way players actually understand totems are a thing and need to be done

I run NOED, and yes sometimes it can get frustrating but you just need to counter it. Don’t get ballsy and teabag the killer. Just get out. Really, the only reason I run it is so I can get that extra jump on the survivor who does a gen in my face. I also use it to punish the teabagging idiots. Plus sometimes if can be fun. Like when playing NOED Gate Nurse! But, sometimes as soon as my NOED is active it is destroyed almost immediately.

The problem with noed is that it gives bad killers undeserved kills. If it didn’t reward bad player no one would complain about it

Keys aren't keeping solos playing the game, where did you pull that from? Why should solo players be given perks for free?

Base kit totem counter- Just run small game

Chase indication- You already always have an obsession in the game and if that's not enough then use bond or empathy

The options are there but survivors don't want to take off their meta perks in exchange for these options.

Why should we have to waste perk slots for stuff that swf gets for free?

  • Not for solo queue surviors they don’t. Unless we waste a perk slot on it we don’t have a totem counter to know how many totem are left or where people have already cleansed them meanwhile swf gets both of those things without having to use any perks at all. Again it is super punishing to play as a team right now because of those perks and the gap between swf and solo queue.
