  • This is a good song for when the default killer music gets too repetitive.

  • Folks I would be careful trash-talking Nea. After all, she's the game director's favorite survivor last time I checked.

Campers make the game less fun and I think they should be dealt with. I want to know if camping would be counted as an "exploit" or "trolling". If I can't report then what is there to do? I would message teammates of what is going on, but between trying to determine if the killer is camping, getting to a survivors steam account, and then sending the message to the other 1-3 survivors it's hard the fight the timer to struggle phase. Were any updates announced to stop campers?

I get that being camped is not enjoyable. However, you just can't ban it outright. When I play killer I find that people that run in circles and loop make the game "less fun" yet I don't try to get players banned for playing a strategy that's not fun.

Survivors have several ways to counter camping:

    • They have the "arm wave tactic" that is almost universally accepted as "the killer is near"
    • They have Borrowed Time a perk that gives you the ability to give rescued survivors another health state if they are rescued and hit within the TR.
    • You have Kindred which reveals the auras of other survivors to each other, alongside revealing the killer's aura if they are within 8 meters of the hook. You can also use Open-Handed to boost this radius to reveal the killer within a 16 meter radius of you at most.
    • You also have a new safety bubble that prevents you from taking damage until you regain control of your character which when combined with bodyblocking and exhaustion perks makes it extraordinarily difficult to immediately down a survivor after they have been unhooked.

On top of all of these survivor assets, there are some killer perks (Barbeque and Chili, Hex: Devour Hope, and Make Your Choice) that also reward killers for keeping some distance between themselves and the hook.

Camping can be annoying, but with everything available to everyone it's one of the worse game strategies that only really benefits the killer if the survivors are stupid and rush the hook. If you are determined to not get camped ever again than what I recommend is that you ignore generators entirely until the first survivor is injured (or downed if it's a No Mither user). Then once you know that the killer isn't going to catch you first you can work on gens at your leisure without fear of being the first caught and camped.

  • There are just 3 things you need to know when facing nurse: Lightburn, Timing, and Head tilts.

Lightburn: That's right, flashlights can stun the Nurse, all you have to do is just shoot her in the torso with light as she's charging a blink and then she's stunned. With how much survivors complain about excess flashlights I think you can risk a few to practice this.

Timing and Head tilts. The nurse cannot cancel blinks once they're charged. If a nurse charges a blink for 4+ seconds you can charge at then as they blink and usually they'll go straight past you. You can use this to waste time or juke her entirely. The key thing is the nurse's head though. While she cannot cancel a blink on most maps nurses will look straight down to turn a long distance blink into a 1/3 meter blink. If you run towards a nurse and she bows, turn around!

    TL:DR
Use flashlights to stun her while she charges blink. Charge at her after 4+ sec of charge. If she looks straight down when you charge run away.
  • Honestly, I like to play against the Legion. I also like playing against Doctors and even Freddies. Just keep the bacon and cheese away from me!
  • There's one thing I'd like to remind everyone about regarding the buff to Prove Thyself. Remember the perk: Discordance that Legion has? Yeah, you might want to check it out when you get a chance.
  • At least it isn't Hillbilly's saw that's gone silent, right? Please tell me that the sprinter hasn't become a ninja.
  • The music is normally okay. However, once you use No Mither and get stuck with the injured music all game that music gets annoying fast.
  • I miss the harpsicords and dulcimers personally. All I have now is "Medieval Party Music (Hardcore Mix)".
  • The thing about gens is that killers want as many survivors on one generator as possible. That way, they make more noise and when the killer shows up, pressure hits everyone.

What killers shouldn't want is one survivor on 4 different generators. This means that while one person is chased the other 3 generators are being repaired. Hence: "GeN rUsH".
  • Perhaps the devs should just add a melee only mode. Maybe they could add a feature where upon hitting a special key at a locker she'd store her hatchets and move at 115% with melee only. Then she can just restock at another locker when she needs hatchets again and go back to 110%.

    Just a thought.
  • I mean, you could always play Huntress and throw a hatchet at them when they drop it. That's just a Huntress main's perspective, though.

  • I main Huntress and I know that Whispers is mandatory. However, I am still working on grinding out the rest of what I want in perks. Shadowborn works very well on Huntress and once it's combined with Bloodhound there is no escape. Besides, Bloodhound gives me a reason to use the hemorrhaging add-ons and actually see results.

Other good perks for The Huntress are: Ruin, BBQ, Iron Maiden, Enduring, Predator. All in all, the goal of the Huntress's perks will be to either find survivors faster or keep track of survivors once you've found them.

My only Huntress complaint is hatchet collision with map prop hitboxes. Some folks have cited Haddonfield hedges. Personally, I can't stand the open truck beds on Autohaven that have forcefields to stop hatchets.

If you ever get bored, bring Monitor and Abuse and Nurse's Calling for a blast.

The real problem here is why dont you run any exaustion perks.

Who needs to run when you can just heal?

  • As much as I like the idea of locking toxic survivors in the basement. Locking up every shmuck who wanders in there seems like a bit much.
  • @Master This can mean only one thing,
    #PharmacyOP
  • Step 1. Realize that you are in the realm of the Entity.
Step 2. Immediately lose all hope as you force yourself to accept that there is no escape.
Step 3. Embrace the Entity and become a killer.
    Step 4. Profit?
  • I for one am a very merciful killer. I don't really care about pipping, and I honestly want to stay low just to get good practice in on all of the killers. So in order to avoid double pips, I usually spare a survivor or two. I usually main Huntress so the longer survivors are in the trial the more hatchet practice I can get.

As for the "game ethics" of a killer that isn't necessarily killing 24/7 I just refer to the quote "I don't want to kill you. I just want to hurt you, a lot." If a game goes by too quickly and everyone just gets stomped then there's no real time for tension/fear to build. So I find that I can defend my mercy by stating that I'm trying to add some tension, give folks a little hope and then tear it to pieces.

Or you know, I could hide in the herd of killers that give up the hatch freely.

  • Well @douggie123, I'm sorry to say that people just don't like to lose. I know that I get frustrated when I put a lot of effort into a trial just to be killed off because of a careless hook save or a crouch that didn't hide me. That being said, I try to keep my grumbling to a minimum. However, it's easy to see why folks act toxic after your success because at the end of the day most Dead by Daylight players are understandably selfish. Dead by Daylight has a grind that is addictive as many will tell you. So people will always want more bloodpoints. So, when you get a lot of bloodpoints and the survivors don't they will whine because they feel that the game wasn't worth their time.

However, the toxicity of Dead by Daylight doesn't matter. Regardless of how belligerent the hate gets, you just have to remember that it is in fact, just a game. Some people will insult you and shout out words of rage in their tantrums. You shouldn't worry about hurting a survivor's feelings because they are your opponents. At the end of the day you chose to play on one team, and they chose to play on the other. I suggest that you just give each game your all and be content.

Besides, if the other team is unhappy and you didn't use actual hacks or cheats then you should celebrate. You should celebrate because you didn't just beat them, you crushed them.

    "gg"

  • The thing about the "toxicity" in Dead by Daylight is that due to the nature of the game, most of what people consider toxic is normal behavior.

For example, as a killer I used to constantly complain that flashlights were toxic. Then I later tried playing survivior with flashlights and I realized that the flashlight save playstyle was thrilling and rewarding. So, I stopped complaining.

Most of the things folks whine about, such as: Looping, Bodyblocking, Camping, Tunneling, are actually perfectly reasonable and acceptable things for each side to do as they are just part of the game. You may not like getting camped right out of the gate, but the killer has ever right to do so. Just like how survivors have every right to loop/stun/blind as much as they can.

The way I see it, the only things that are really toxic in DBD are the hate messages from all players.

T-bagging or nodding aren't really all that toxic as some folks use the "emotes" to communicate non-toxic messages.

All in all, the only things that are really and wholly toxic are the angry messages of sore losers. Once we get dedicated servers and finish the console ban stuff, that should stop quick enough. Just keep calm and carry on!
  • I'm going to be real here. I have actually been playing Minecraft of all things and it's been suprisingly fun.

I guess the accessibility and popularity of Fortnite got rid of most of the children that ruined it.
  • Wait, killer queues have gotten shorter?
    https://youtu.be/HgzGwKwLmgM
  • Dark Sense isn't so much useless as it is less useful than other perks.

Seeing that it was buffed at the same time as Deja Vu I expected Dark Sense to reveal the killer whenever any generator completed. Ever since I learned that it was locked to showing aura only after you did gens I honestly forgot about it. It does have limited use, but it's just overshadowed by stronger perks.

    (Is ganging up on survivors.)

Because it is not like Survivors gang up on Killers, right?

I am well aware of the nonsense that survivors get away with. I guess the only difference is that when survivors gang up on a killer it only annoys the killer. Whereas conversely killers ganging up on a survivor can actually kill the survivor.

I am not not disagreeing with you. I am just trying play "devil's advocate" I guess.
  • Orion said:

Yeah, but this would just be a small percentage of players, so it's OK.

I understand that only a handful of players will play with master strategies to get (6-8?) kills. However in a previous discussion on the two player gamemode @Peanits brought up the point that two killers ganging up can prove very strong. So I just hoped to alleviate their concerns with thoughtful discussion.
  • I second @Master here. I've played my fair share of video games and they've all had some level of graphics options. Heck, that Civilization that Mathieu seems to like so much has graphics options. Unless Dead by Daylight wants to become the laughing stock of the game awards then I strongly advise improvements to the graphics settings.

Unless of course there is a good reason for the delay? I just find the lack of such a basic feature baffling.

  • I see no problems here. Nothing save for the time it would take to code, test, and implement this.

  • As the most basic example, you should always assume that if a Jake and a Leatherface are in the same game Leatherface will always "tunnel" Jake. (It's related to the difficult to obtain "Jake face" cosmetic.) After this primary example, survivors are generally targeted under two thought patterns, logos, and pathos.

Under logos (logic) survivors are targeted through:

    • Obsession Status (delete Decisive Strike)
    • Cosmetic colors (Kill off the hard to see ones first.)
    • Perk identifications (That one guy has Borrowed Time or Saboteur)
    • Skill Assessment (This person seems smarter than the rest)
    • Item Usage (Toolboxes and Keys are bad/ Medkits and Flashlights are good)
    • Kill Progress (Times hooked >1)

    Under pathos (emotion)

    • Paranoia (Survivor is constantly near killer)
    • Rage (Survivor excessively t-bags, clicks flashlights, and in general is directly taunting the killer)
    • Focus (How well their bright clothes stand out)
    • Malice (Filled with rage and anger they will not hesitate to target victims of an ill-timed hook save)

In trials, I generally try to remember names. If you have a funny name or if I just killed you last game or saw you last game I'll play nice. However, if your name is something that is just idiotically offensive (I've seen at least 3 "fuhrers") you'll get a free ride on the tunnel train. Aside from that I just refer to the above lists.

As far as I am aware this has been an issue for some time now, at least the long wait times. Also very ironic you say the game should be unfair for killers when there are in fact four survivors that run, probably not op perks, but perks that piss off killers. Sure certain changes may not be unfair for solo survivors, but that is the fault of the SWFs. Besides the recent crashes, I had actually found more games faster. Maybe it is a PS4 thing but this is my take on it. Dunno your story, but don't blame 'salty killers'. Both sides are at fault and are possibly driving the Devs crazy.

I dont understand what your saying. My point is that the game needed to be unbalanced due to the number of survivors to killers in a game, but you're talking about perks

The core of this game is very reliant on perks. Maybe I misunderstood you, but you DID say 'but the game should be unfair for killers'. And it already is pretty unfair for killers when they suffer the perk Decisive Strike, on four people (and rarely, but happened to me, Saboteur when I'm trying to hook people). That's not to mention the absolute dead horse of pallet looping. Look the point is killers already have a lot of stuff to deal with, and you saying they killed the game is incorrect.

But thats my exact point. I probably should have been clearer in my original post, but when buff killers in general and nerf survivors in general, when they should have only buffed weaker killers and weaker perks, and nerfed strong survivor perks and SWF

How interesting, you claimed that killers demanding too many survivor nerfs is what has "killed the game". Now you say that they should have buffed killers and nerfed survivors. Odd.

Already have, they all played survivor first, and all didn't like it as it was too hard for them. Please explain why the nerfed solo players rather than SWF which were the actual problem

The problem is not locked to a specific side. The problem is locked in rank. People who have no business being in the low ranks deliberately lose rank so that they can bully and harass new/inexperienced players. Also, how exactly are survivors weak? They just received several buffs. The most notable of these buffs being:

    • Borrowed Time now has an additional health state.
    • Lockers now block auras, for example, BBQ and Chili Auras.

If anything, folks would be lining up to play survivor because it has been overall made easier.

Anyone else noticed that killers have to wait 10+ minutes for a game? I sure have, and i don't know if any of you have noticed, but it isn't down to a glitchy matchmaking system, as that would slow survivor ques too. The reason is all the recent survivor nerfs / killer buffs. Constant complaining from a lot of killer mains has led to these changes, and sure, they may seem fair for killers, but the game should be unfair for killers. There's 4 players on one team, and one player on the other, so you need only 20% of players to actually want to play killer to get an even waiting time and fast ques. Instead killers just complained and complained, rather than trying to get better at the game, and now we have a bunch of idiots playing killer, no one playing survivor, and a broken game where no one can play how they like. I always said to stop moaning survivors were op, but all i got called was salty survivor main. Now look where you've got us...

Oh? So where's all of your proof for this? Where's all of the data you have of amount of players playing killer vs survivor huh? Or did you just make this up?

I'm sorry but have you read any other posts on these forums. I don't even play survivor hence my salt, but i know that many survivors stopped playing because it was too hard, especially for the new ones. Meanwhile SWF still escape every game because they nerfed solo survivors not SWF

While some survivors have left, yes, many have stayed. What rank are you playing at? This sort of thing can affect your wait time after all.

I didn't have a chance to catch the stream. That's the only reason my reaction to the original post was "Where's the proof?"

  • Do you have any proof of the developers making this claim? If the devs said it on stream then I suggest you place a link to the stream (here you go: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D4-E4R0oHBY) and provide a time stamp.

If this comment was made on social media and you are on a Windows computer you can use Ctrl + PrtScr to take a screenshot. Then just open Paint and Ctrl + V to paste the screenshot into Paint so that you can save it as a photo file.

Regardless of your choice, please provide proof when stating such claims.

I fear that the devs may be nerfing "scissor-hand Joe" once more.

  • I have no idea, been trying to hoard green medkits but I find myself playing more killer recently.
  • @Redplanet Just use Kindred or Borrowed Time. There's nothing wrong with a killer defending a hook. It's up to us to run perks to counter the strategy.
  • Paint the walls black, and glossy.

  • On ps4, I know people who get a black screen and then the game crashes since the 2.4 update. Is this a common issue?
Unless I am mistaken that's a bug caused by the new map.
  • You guys got Radiant banned:
    Pretty good job so far!
  • Definitely a ragequit issue.

Yesterday I started a lobby afk. The queue was long and I walked my dog a bit before coming back to find the match had started and two generators were done. I expected as much, so the game plays out as you would expect from there and towards the end a prestiged Laurie Strode is teabagging with the others at the exit. She however, forgot that the Huntress has ranged attacks so with one good hatchet her attitude went from "Ha ha, noob killerino duud, etc" to "oh crap oh crap oh crap, CRAWL FASTER." I scooped her up and once we left the exit area she just dc'd.

She felt powerful and in a second I took it all away. So in turn she DC'd. All of her allies had left, she was on her third hook anyway. Just 35 seconds and she would've been at the tally screen with her points and pips.

Make the consequences deter ragequit BHVR. Then, people will stop dcing.
