  • You're both being dicks in this scenario. You for intentionally denying a challenge when you've lost the game, and him for bodyblocking you into a corner out of rage.

What he's doing is reportable, but there may have been a method to his madness - he might have been hoping that you would go afk so that he could carry you into the basement? He was probably just pissed though. Report him and hope BHVR actually does something.

Two snowmen T-posing on Jill to assert their dominance.

Eventually I ended up leading a procession of 4 snowmen down the main road. Way better than actually playing a game in Badham. (One of the Steves spawned in my TR and I ran right into him, but while I was chasing him, a snowman wandered into the fray, and things devolved from there.)

Snowmen cause the killer to be frustrated, thus leads to camping, because that's how killers go about making sure survivors have the least fun. They have one interaction with a survivor that is not in their favor and they proceed to camp and tunnel them if they happen to be rescued, rather than defending their generators just so the survivor can feel helpless and die. It happens 80% of my games where one survivor is just caught by a Bubba and is camped from there on out. Snowmen being a defensive mechanism for survivors is a good thing, as it allows survivors who are being tunneled to extend their short lived game for at least a few more seconds.

    Yeah, that's a stretch.

If I had to guess, you haven't played killer very much and certainly not against more skilled survivors, which is where this lack of scope is coming from. I'm also guessing that's around where your survivor MMR is at, because lower MMR is the bracket where facecamping is extremely prevalent and survivors are the weaker side of gameplay (as opposed to higher level gameplay, where survivors pull ahead and killers can struggle to keep up.)

There's four reasons killers camp. One is because the killer player is an ass and doesn't want the survivor to have fun (or is reacting to one player specifically that they want to remove - possibly ass, possibly because the player provoked them and it's a justified response.) Two is because the killer player has given up on securing a kill in any other way, either because they've blatantly lost the game or because it's endgame and there's nothing left for them to do. Three is because the killer is new and doesn't understand how to play. Four is because they suspect there are other players in the area, or know other players will return to this spot in a reasonable timeframe (as in, camping the player won't result in a ton of gen % getting done, which is the reason you don't camp as a default), and camping or proxy camping is the strategic choice. If you have two players hooked in the same spot, for instance, there usually isn't any reason to leave the area except to be nice.

So: you're angry at reason number one, which is valid, and assuming all killers do it for that reason, which is not valid. Tunneling is similar; it can be done to punish a single player, but most often it's a play to win tactic, not a spite one. You shouldn't take it personally any more than you should a survivor flashlight saving you or sabotaging a hook. With camping - basement Bubbas? Those ones are probably dicks; they do it for the brand and they know damn well that nobody but them is going to enjoy that game. But any other killer camping you, who knows. If it's facecamping, they're either new, tilted, or they've lost the game. If it's not facecamping, dollars to donuts that it has nothing to do with you or your fun, it's just a tactical choice. (Whether killers should let up for the sake of survivors' fun is another debate, but I will say that I've only once in my DBD career seen survivors do the same when the situation is reversed.)

By the way, snowmen are useless against Bubba because his chainsaw isn't a single hit, so it doesn't eat his power the way it does most other killers. I suppose Plague also breaks it with Corrupt Purge, but I haven't tested that. Snowmen as a protection mechanic were not especially well thought out - some killers can shoot right through them and others completely lose their power when confronted with snowmen.

  • Yeah, this. I'm not fond of the Prime exclusives (and I already had Amazon Prime - it's just that I dislike gating content behind external platforms), and there was a noticeable absence of green rarity cosmetics on her initial release. Characters basically always release with 4 browns (recolors of base), 3 yellows (recolors of base but with new designs), 2 greens (new mesh, 2 colors) and one purple (new mesh.) It stands to reason that these two outfits were supposed to be her Rare release outfits, and instead they're Amazon only. I don't like that.

The Game map, Distressing, (Monitor & Abuse also if you want to go overboard), Calm Addons.

    :)

Order addons also help by reducing the cooldown. Mixing both purples is probably the best of both worlds.

I got it in my first try in Coldwind. Just gotta prioritize blasts over actually, well, winning the game.

  • I really like the event and I'm extremely happy that DBD's brought back this kind of event, where you earn rewards through new types of gameplay. It's not something we've seen in a few years and I hope it's a sign of things to come. I just want them to fix the weird interactions it has with some killer powers.

  • Hate's a loaded word. I see no evidence that developers hate killers, I just don't think they're that good at thinking the whole picture through when they implement changes.

  • @Extremes said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/299457/why-not-just-remove-the-hit-cooldown-for-hitting-snowmen

You want to remove this so you can do what every killer does nowadays and camp them on a hook? I'll pass. Keep it how it is. Killer's cry that survivor is op, but every killer just proxy camps or hard camps hooks and use the excuse "you should've just done gens". Like any survivor is gonna just let their teammate die when they know how terrible it feels to get camped.

...What? What do snowmen have to do with camping? At all?

You seem to be new here, but this is frowned upon (and while you're definitely not alone in doing it, so is 'all killers/all survivors are awful people who just want to ruin the game for all survivors/all killers!') Please don't hijack existing threads to talk about unrelated issues and please don't assume the worst about people's motives, especially when they haven't even given you an inkling to suspect what you're accusing them of.

  • I already had Amazon Prime... but it looks like there's more items planned to be released in the future for Amazon Prime Gaming users? I can't say I like that idea even though I'm already going to get them. DBD cosmetics shouldn't be exclusive to third-party platforms; they should be made available to everyone (even if, say, you get them free with Prime Gaming but can buy them in the shop otherwise.)

  • @Dustin said:

Hag - Literally designed to camp and can excel at it. Forces survivors to push gens and leave teammates hanging or make trades sometimes - Legitimately unfun playstyle to deal with. I'll never understand why people complain about Bubba because a Bubba will lose games doing this. This can be a genuine winning strategy for Hag unless you have a loadout prepared for Hag.

You either run the Hag the entire game and they get no hooks or they camp people to death because that's how you play them.

I think in my entire existence in DBD I've only played against one player who made versing them fun while they were Hag.

When I play Hag, I never trap hooks (unless the survivors activate my rage mode) and instead place traps more like Trapper would - areas I expect people to run to in chase or areas I expect people to run to passively. Hexes at the start and generators once some have been completed. I do fairly well with her, though smart survivors can rip this apart more easily than they can hook trap spam.

Would that playstyle still annoy you? I get mixed signals when I play her and some people are still pissed about it.

  • I haven't seen a frozen Ghostface, but I've seen a couple of frozen Spirits and a ton of frozen Artists.

Agreed, I like this way much more than other events.

I'm really hoping this is a trend we can expect to see in the future. It's super healthy event design. I was pretty stressed solo queueing during the anniversary event and a lot of the crowns came from friendly killers - participation that takes some interaction with an event mechanic but doesn't require you to 'win' is a great idea.

  • I'm laughing so hard right now. Thank you so much for this absolutely cursed spread. Poor Yun-Jin...

  • Same as you. I'm delighted with the meme potential of snowmen and for the most part I've been having pretty chill, silly games, but there's always that one guy who's gotta munchkin everything and that's irritating to deal with. Mainly I'm afraid that's going to become more prevalent as time marches on and the novelty of the snowmen wears off.

  • Seriously. I was really hoping for a Blighted Demo skin, too. As a licenser, they'd always been good about collaborating with DBD for custom outfits and it seemed like a foregone conclusion.

I shouldn't hope Netflix's mobile games fail, but I'm totally hoping they do. They took our dog :(

Just an extra hit is why we aren't calm. Survivors are using them to play in very not chill ways.

    OP's being sarcastic. :P

  • Sounds like a good change to me. Killer power interactions still need to be adjusted (Twins and Ghostface, mainly) but this would fix most of the problems with snowmen.

  • CoH is universally powerful. Shadowstep is map dependent. If you load into Ormond or Eyrie, it's a pointless perk. If you load into Midwich or RCPD, it's terrifyingly strong - stronger than CoH, even. The killer has no choice but to find and break the totem or they'll lose chase every time the survivor turns a corner and is more than 10 meters ahead of them.

It's sort of like Balanced Landing where you need a map offering to guarantee its effectiveness. Generally I think measures that deal with boon totem effectiveness on the whole will handle the more broken cases of Shadow Step - not being able to boon the same spot twice would be huge. Looking at you, RCPD library.

  • This argument is fine for when you run into survivors that are memeing and spinning around in circles and advancing on the killer with 4-snowmen legions. It's not fine when you run into survivors that use the snowmen like any other map resource and employ them for extra health states.

All issues of being unable to avoid this gamemode aside (because people should be able to play the way they want to play), "play chill" is a bad argument when the people you're playing against aren't playing chill either.

I do love this event and I'm really happy that BHVR gave us something both fresh and reminiscent of the older, earlier events, but let's not pretend there aren't problems here.

  • Bubba. When I get one that wants to chase people and play normally, he's one of the more fun, most well-designed killers out there. But much more commonly, he wants to have a basement staring contest and that's just a miserable experience.

    Otherwise, Twins.

  • Survivor queues are usually instant at this time of day and they're taking a while. If I had to guess, it's because the current event is a bit survivor-sided - both for the fun meme potential and the competitive potential. There's also no bonus bloodpoints component to it (which typically favors killers.)

  • I've been doing something similar. Bringing some leftover sacrificial cakes, and everyone gets to escape unless they do something unsportsmanlike. I just want my two hooks on everyone, then we can chill and play snowman tag.

(I tend not to farm right out the gates because people who want to play the game will get mad at you, and if you get a group of survivors that doesn't understand you want to farm/doesn't trust you, you'll waste too much time trying to make peace at the start and you're left playing the rest of the game on a handicap.)

  • I did it by bringing both Order addons for reduced cooldown. Distressing also helps.

  • I agree with increasing the odds of perks appearing the longer they haven't been in there, but I'd also like to float a new suggestion - remove perks from the pool that belong to characters everyone has available. Dwight, Meg, Claudette, Jake, Nea, David, Trapper, Wraith, Hillbilly, Nurse, and Huntress; get them out of the shrine. People should not be buying these perks and it's very much a waste of shards, when shards are a much harder resource to come by than bloodpoints especially at the start of the game (which is the only time players might not have all the default character perks.)

It’s an event. It doesn’t last forever. Maybe chill out and try to have fun xD

I am having fun with groups of survivors that are also chilling out and playing around. I'm very happy to meme around and I've had some delightful snowman experiences. But then I'll get groups of survivors that want to play serious, and they're using the snowmen like a new map resource. The killer's answer should not be 'well, just chill out, it's an event' when the survivors aren't even doing that.

I did that against a Nemesis and ended up running the zombie for 5 gens. He would just stop and watch me for a few seconds before going about his business. Rofl.

That is delightful. Maximum "...carry on, then" energy.

  • Survivors that use snowmen are either incredibly wholesome or incredibly frustrating, with not much in-between.

Today's given me some heartwarming games and one deeply annoying one. Hoping for more of the former snowman experiences. There was this one Leon that stayed in his snow-sona for all 5 gens... what a champion, marching slowly across the map to provide moral support and Christmas spirit at generators.

  • They generally do? But oftentimes they close it and handle related thread cleaning before typing up the post concluding the thread, so there can be a delay. If you're talking about the thread I think you're talking about, give it another fifteen minutes.

Edit: Yep, literally just went up as I sent this.

  • +1 to unlinking Feng's pointlessly linked set, -1 for the implication that Felix isn't smoking hot.

  • Makes sense. Bubba's chainsaw is a continuous series of hits as long as it's swinging - the reason it doesn't instadown you even with Speed Limiter is because there's i-frames before the speed boost kicks in. The snowman grants no i-frames, so one frame destroys it and the next instadowns you.

Mostly, killer power interactions with the snowmen weren't well thought out.

  • Just went against a wholesome SWF. I brought a cake and was planning on letting everyone go after two hooks, but they were too cute for the game to even get that far... a few times this Elodie hopped into a snowman in chase, and she would spin around in circles. I think she wanted me to hit her for the cosmetic the first time, but when she started spinning, I danced with her for maybe fifteen seconds before resuming the chase, and this happened a few times before I downed her.

Fast forward to me casually waiting for Nea to finish cleansing my Haunted Grounds so I can stab her. It's under the main building in Grim Pantry, so I grab her and turn for the closest exit. A snowman appears under the arch to block the way, slowly advancing on me.

Nea's not even wiggling, so I play along, shake my head, and flee backwards to a farther hook. Another snowman approaches from the other side, trailing after me with mittens raised. At that point it's just too funny not to spend the rest of the game farming with them.

Mega props to this one Leon who spent 80% of the game in the same snowman. Just slowly followed the procession to each gen. Man was dedicated.

That's not the point your now making something was supposed to be for fun into a part of the toxic behavior of the survivor community. The snowmen give a health state......then we have DH.......which gives another then we have the normal health state.

Its SWF survivors like you and your "friends" that make all the Killers want Nerfs to survivors.

Pretty much this. You have good feelings about all the silly snowmen wandering around until you run into a coordinated pack of survivors that uses them to tank hits, or that one god looper who keeps using them to reach pallets when you've finally got them in the open. They're fun until people start gaming their potential in chase, which turns a cute event into something that actively makes the game less fair.

I'm still having lots of fun with the event, but it's only the first day. I imagine that in a week or two, I'll be pretty sick of the extra health states.

I'm not really sure why the snowmen have to provide a damage shield. They're already like a semi-mobile locker - a resource you can sneak into and pretend to be part of the landscape with, and unlike lockers, they don't instadown you if you get caught. A single damage state would still be fair. At the very least, they should interact more consistently with killer powers. Been using my cakes on Ghostface tonight and a marked survivor that jumps into a snowman loses their exposed when I hit them out of it.

  • Yeah, I saw clips of a pig-masked local puzzle enthusiast chased down a suburban neighborhood by animate frost crystals, and a masked man completely boxed in by these chilly fiends, trapped in a mental institute - his knife was no match for solid ice. However will killers survive this snowy scourge?

(NGL, the OP screenshot is giving me hard 'T-Pose to assert dominance' vibes)

  • Question - do you get killer rewards only from playing killer and survivor rewards only from playing survivor, or is it random? I ask because I've played 4 games so far and the reward I got was always matched to the role I was playing, but I'm still not sure.

Either way, fantastic event! I love how survivors and killers both need to participate in it in order to get the rewards - it's a really healthy design. Very glad it no longer hinges on survivors escaping. And those snowmen are hilarious. I've already had a Steve burst out of a snowman next to a hook and try to drop a pallet on me while I carried someone.

  • For stealth?

Teammates hate it because you're either spending time hiding that could be spent doing/committing to objectives, or they don't see you and they assume you weren't doing anything. They also hate it because you don't take your share of chases and hook states, which is true even if you contribute.

Killers hate it because it wastes tons of time - either panicky wasted time trying to find the person you know is at this gen while the other gens march their merry way on, or 30 minutes of frustrated wasted time at the end trying to fish out two hiding survivors.

The hatch and keys really were fine as they were. The only issue was - and to an extent still can be - hatch offerings. Those should have never been created, or only available to killers. And it’s hilarious they were introduced in a period hatch complaints were rampant on these forums.

Killers don’t need to have blowout matches every trial.

Disagree. Hatch/key nerfs went too far, but 3 survivors being able to nope out at one gen left was a major problem.

It put killers in an impossible situation. Guard the 3-gen, everyone leaves through the hatch. Guard the hatch, everyone does the gen. Patrol, they'll slip out through the hatch when you're not looking. It didn't matter that much if a hatch offering was used; it'd speed up the exit strategy, but the team still has infinite time to find the hatch unless it happened to spawn in the middle of the 3-gen. And even then, survivors could just zerg rush you because there was no unlock time. The closest equivalent I can think of is NOED, when you do everything right to win the game and suddenly the other side whips out a 'lol you thought' card... but NOED can be dealt with in a number of ways (and not even the 'do bones' way, that's the least efficient means of handling it.) Keys were just a lose/lose and a very uninteractive mechanic.

I'd have been happy with a change like 'one key equals one hatch escape', or hatch only spawning when all gens are done, but they took the mori nerf route again. Current keys are useless and current hatch is not a mechanic worth involving in archive challenges.

  • @Phasmamain said:

Nope she’s fine. If anything crow repel time could be increased slightly

I'm okay with the repel time because it sits on the cusp of making 3-bird shots into 3-bird shots impossible, but 1-bird shots into 3-bird shots are easy. I think it's a pretty delicate balance.

Okay but have any of the reworked maps actually gotten better?

    Ormond.

Which sounds nice until you realize it's the only one that both changed in any meaningful way and became more balanced. You'd think balance would be a key aspect of updating old maps, but they've all been graphical updates and breakable walls for the most part.

Mainly, with the Realm Beyond, I dislike how the game is getting so bright and clear. We're getting broad daylight visibility in a game that used to be all about darkness and fog. I don't like this shift in aesthetic design and don't think it fits.

    Must be killer main

You didn't even provide a reason as for why she should be nerfed, after you suggested removing the two things she does differently (and better) than other ranged killers.

If she can't hold birds in place, and her birds can only go so far, then she's basically Pyramid Head except with a longer delay between setting up the shot and firing, and without torment/cages.

  • Luckily they fixed that monstrosity, but now they need to fix Dwight, Laurie, and Kate too. They've really been making a mess out of the survivor portraits. Not sure what the quality control guys are doing.

You're typing of sigh makes you hypocrite. There's is no reason to type that other than to be condescending. It's frightening how much effort you put into these posts instead of just mannering up.

Mannering up how? There's nothing weird about expressing exasperation when you're already unhappy with someone else and the other guy already gatekept their whole argument, not especially respectfully at that. Is 'sigh' somehow any worse than telling them to 'just manner up' in return? This is an incredibly selective nitpick to make and I'm a little baffled by it.

DBD has tons of players that initiate douchebag behavior for no other reason than to be provocative. I'll never have a problem with players who tbag the killer after they spent the game camping and tunneling, and I'll never have a problem with killers that camp and tunnel that one survivor who kept tbagging them. That's just normal social behavior, as above - when someone does something that makes you irritated, you express your irritation. But I do take umbrage with players who tbag and click at pallets/gates like it's a religious compulsion, and I do take umbrage with players who facecamp and hit or bleed out a survivor without them doing anything to deserve it, because being rude to someone who wasn't being rude to you is just being a dick and inciters bring nothing healthy to the community.

(I should stop and clarify here; I don't believe that tunneling is toxic. It gives the killer a clear advantage and is often necessary in high level gameplay, with the current state of balance. Toxic requires the player to be doing it to you because they want to piss you off and that's not the point of tunneling even if it's a result. But since it's frustrating to be subjected to, I don't fault survivors that get pissy about being tunneled, at least until they start harassing the killer in chat.)

In general, I don't understand the resistance whenever anyone says BHVR should try to improve this community and tamp down the toxicity, or that they're tired of the way things are. It feels hard to support the current state of the community in good faith (i.e., supporting it for any other reason than partaking in it and not wanting that behavior to become socially unacceptable.) That's... really the only time you lose out on the result. Otherwise, even if you don't care about people being rude to you on the internet, what do you lose by disincentivizing it? And before the obvious counterargument gets invoked, there's ways to do it that don't involve banning people for tbagging and clicking, or taking away the crouch button.

DBD's hardly the only online multiplayer PVP game I've been on. Most of them managed to have better communities than this. Sure, tbagging exists in every game with a crouch feature, but tbagging itself isn't the problem; it's players that want to stir the pot, or players that have become so bitter about their opponents that they hate them by default and play to punish. The former's hard to deal with in a non-punitive way, but the latter is very much a reaction to the state of the community. It's a cultural thing, and DBD's culture is pretty bad even for these kinds of games. You don't have to look any further than the forums to see that - the amount of resentment and disdain between the sides of this game is extremely high. That absolutely echoes in how people treat their opponents during and after a match.

  • Man, we're really just not allowed to have good addons anymore.

This addon is so easily countered by splitting up or attempting to dodge birds while on gens.

  • Please. Trying to get hatch in solo queue is hell because survivors love to wait at the gates until the end of the collapse, either because they want to spite the killer, they want to spite you, or because they mistakenly want to help you and end up getting you killed. Used to be you'd just die on the hatch, now you straight up don't have enough time to look for it when people will only leave with 15 seconds left in the game.

It is easier to get hatch by means of a chill killer when you all die than it is to get it in a game where you could have escaped out the gates. That's how stupid it is.

  • Exponential's one of those perks that's mostly useless on its own, but has the potential to be a powerhouse in a SWF. The build you're using does make it seem like you'd be able to pick yourself up stupid fast, but that's not the real threat with Exponential (and you apparently didn't use it anyway), so this is just a killer being salty and probably assuming you spent the whole game immersed. The problem case with Exponential is when a SWF brings it in a flashlight/sabo/breakdown style build, with the following formula: everyone tries to go down in an Exponential zone, everyone else pressures the killer with flashlights/pallets/sabotage so that they can't immediately pick up the down, and the survivors either get a save when the killer picks the player up, or the player picks themselves up if the killer leaves them down. But Exponential in an uncoordinated team is pretty harmless.

Well. Unless you're Twins. Twins understandably hate it too, because their cooldowns can prevent Charlotte from being able to reach a survivor they downed with Victor in that timeframe.

Exactly, theres 60k people on steam alone. Im wondering if yesterdays outage did something

Doubt it. Before yesterday I was having stupid matchups. My MMR on either side isn't great (I solo queue and I let players go a lot as killer), but I've been in a full red rank meta squad against a 1-perk killer a couple of times recently, and at the start of the Epic Games Store release, I had a few killer matchups where I got four survivors that seemed completely clueless - like, one game I had 6 hooks before anyone had touched a gen anywhere on the map, and I had to pick up the survivors, bring them to gens, and hit them and nod. A couple more where I'd basically won the game at 5 gens. Baby survivors need protections too. Matchmaking is not working and as far as I can tell, the old system did this less often.

  • In no particular order:

    Plague's Sea-Goat Worshipper

    Spirit's Crystalline Apparition

    Clown's Mr. Puddles

    Wraith's The Angel of Music

    Blight's Sophisticated Slaughter

But I like to mix and match outfits, so this doesn't necessarily reflect my favorite pieces.

  • Yikes. For the game to look at a brand new player that hasn't gotten a single kill and throw that at them, something's completely wrong. Lucky that you weren't actually a brand new player, because if I'd gotten that in my first few killer matches, I would have been tearing my hair out.

I agree with everyone saying that the system going "someone dodged this lobby, give them the next killer we find" isn't acceptable. If it's a highly experienced SWF getting a baby killer, that's four players with a huge time investment into the game against someone who's just trying it out. The SWF isn't going to quit if they have to wait 3 minutes for a more appropriate killer, but the newbie may well quit if they get hard bullied as their first impression. This is bad in pure player retention terms, which BHVR should care about.

New players should have matchmaking protections that trump everyone else's until they've played a certain number of games.

  • Ugh. I was really hoping we were done with hatch challenges when they reworked it.

At least it's not a key challenge this time...

  • All of those bouquets, all of those old map offerings. I'd never touch that either. Mikey's just going to have to live with the perks he's got.

1 … 73 74 75 76 77 … 110
