@Sheldor said: It's called social skills - to let killer players have their side of the event as well. Most survivors dont seem to have any.
In my 2+ years of playing them, most players in PvP-centric games don't seem to have them.
I was an MMO player for 20 years before diving into hero-shooters like Overwatch in 2016, MOBAs like Heroes of the Storm, and then messing around in Paladins and some other PvP games before deciding to try DBD in September. I used to be a very social player in MMOs. Playing these PvP games, though, social skills seem to go out the window with the player base, or were never possessed in the first place.

No competitive game would even consider a P2P connection, and for good reason.
Every figthing game ever would like to have a word with you. for small scale games (and by that i mean 1v1 i am not sure until which XvX its viable i would say should be ok for 2v2 but above that you are asking for trouble... just ask For Honor)
Yeah, I've heard that on here regarding fighting games. But I'll be honest, I haven't touched a fighting game in 20 years or more, back when I was in my 20s and you went to as video arcade to play them because home versions on Sega or PS1 sucked.
When I think competitive games, I look at MOBAs, shooters, or, hell, even WoW PvP Arenas.
Fighting games aren't even on my radar. My kid plays them. I wasn't even aware they had any sort of comp-scene.
But I understand your point, and will stand corrected in regards to it.
I'm a hero-shooter, MOBA, and MMO player outside of putzing around with DBD. Just from the forums, I'm realizing that my preferred games seem to be different from a lot of others here on the forums. My previous games of the past 6 years or so were MMOs like DCUO, SWTOR, and WoW, Heroes of the Storm for MOBA, and Overwatch and Paladins for hero-shooters, with a little Diablo 3 tossed in for AARPG play.
DBD is my first time trying an asymmetrical game. Not yet sure if I'm sold on the genre.

What? Hide or Die? If you mean that one, you're probably right. I've been on the fence about that game for months now, but figured a quick Beta would give me a feel for the mechanics and whether or not I'd like it over all.
In all honesty, if I like it, I will be shocked. It's more than a little Battle Royal in design, and I typically don't care much for BR games.
Sorry, meant DeadGarden.
Hide or Die looks interesting to me, but so do at least 10% of all games for me.Oh, I watched a few Streamers play Deathgarden. Looked at it, said: Yeah, I already get that high-mobility shooter gameplay in Overwatch, complete with objectives, and passed.
I mean, if I want to run around at high speed, double-jump, and wall-climb while being shot at, I can just play Genji in Overwatch. I don't need a whole new game for that.

Huh, i play neither so that's a new way of thinking for me.
Who knows, those that play Overwatch, which is free, probably didn't want to pay for a version of that game in which the variety is a few guns and skills.Overwatch costs $40 or $60, depending on which edition you choose to buy. It isn't free.
https://us.shop.battle.net/en-us/family/overwatch
They run a 50% sale usually once a season (summer, fall, winter, spring), and they did toss it into the October Humble Bundle $12 subscription recently, but the game has an MSRP and always has.
Paladins, the other hero-shooter, is free. So is TF2.
My bad.
All good, brother.
But speaking of Deathgarden, did you see this video the Lead Dev made? Just came out yesterday, I think.

Here's the interesting part: Before the event, Steam Charts would average 12k-13k people this time of night, nearly every night.
Here we are with 9 days left, and DBD is only at 15k players now on Steam Charts. A huge drop from the past few nights, where even Monday and Tuesday night were still hitting 25k this time of night.
I wonder how many people who returned for the event either (1) finished both sides by now or (2) just said to hell with it and gave up on the Killer side due to lobbies, and have left again until the next seasonal event or double BP event.

Oh, and I never made a single thread on the topic. So, you might want to avail yourself of the information on what threads I have created before tossing out baseless insults.
Wow. I see how fun this keyboard warrior nonsense is now. Thanks!
If you'd notice how I broke that post up into 2 distinct parts you'd realize that the 1st comment dealing with threats was tagged to the op while the comment you just referenced was tagged to you. So you knew i wasn't referring to you in the threat comment yet turned around and stated i was.
So the only one that needs to avail themselves here would be you and resorting to such a feeble insult is about as good as saying i'm right and you're wrong.
Try again slick. Here's your actual point to me:

Hope for you it'll be better than DeadGarden.
I never tried that game. And I have no idea if Hide or Die will be good or not. Hell, it might be fantastic, and I just not like it. But I figure: what the hell? I could risk $30 and try that game, or give BHVR $30 for skins.
At this stage, I felt better about taking the risk than rewarding BHVR.

For all the people that threaten never to spend a dime on the game there's plenty that will gladly support the devs. It's almost always the case that those posting like this never spend any money or not very much anyways let alone ever had any intention of doing so.If companies listened to every poster like you that threatened not to spend money if their wishes weren't emt they'd be out of business pretty quickly.
yea i guess its better to not complain on a well known ######### situation

Unfortunately, though, there seems little point in doing so. While people excused no response over the weekend, we've now gone through three business days this week with not a peep from BHVR.
My guess? The suits back in the office see the issue, see the skins available for $10 a pop, and figure: let it ride. Those who can't complete the event will just spend in the shop for the skin or skins.
Obviously, they're just letting this crap ride until it ends in 9 days, then they can talk about what a success it was.

Oh, I'm already done giving BHVR a dime while Matt Cote is still Game Lead. At the end of the day, the buck stops with him with these type of decisions, just like it did with Jeff Kaplan in Overwatch (another game I just walked away from as of today). There is zero excuse for how this crap has been handled, and this isn't the first major misstep in DBD. It needs a new Game lead.
What happened in OW?
It's a long story and a lot of build up with me, basically as @Michiko said in his simple comment. Sad, but true.
It started with the reveal by Blizzard that OW dev team members were cannibalized to work on OWL crap, which slowed down adding content to OW, itself. This apparently did not change with the addition of 8 new OWL teams for the upcoming season, as Kaplan stated that they had to stop working on content to focus on catching up with hero balance. He actually used that as the excuse for why the promised social features from the summer were pushed back to 2019.
Only, go watch today's Dev update. Apparently, the OW team mysteriously had the time to work on the new free-camera spectating and replay system for the World Cup Championships at Blizzcon next weekend. And tried to excuse it as a "Beta" that would "one day" appear in the future of the Overwatch game.
So, in short, the game isn't getting the support it needs because the Devs keep being used by Blizzard higher-ups to work on Overwatch League features. Blizzard milked the Overwatch game for several billion in revenue already. Now, it's all about the Overwatch League.
So, I gave Blizzard more than enough time with Overwatch. At this stage, I'm done. I played their games for 24 years (obviously not exclusively) and they've been going downhill since 2012. Diablo 3 wasn't that good. HoTS is okay, WoW has been going way downhill expansion after expansion starting with Warlords of Deanor. There is just really no reason for me to keep playing their games.
Only, I chose DBD and BHVR. And right now, I'm not sure I made a better choice.

But yeah, some people at the forums act like BHVR is some small, poor indie company. They are a major developer, have been around for almost 25 years, and work on a lot of major I.P.s.

By the way, check out their Job Opportunities. I find it interesting that they're hiring for a Senior Product Manager and a Product Manager for DBD.

Nope. I already play Overwatch, Paladins, HoTS, and other games that are of better quality overall, and have dedicated servers with no fee. Plus, why would I pay BHVR an extra fee for something they'd already put into their other game, Deathgarden?
Behavior Interactive is not some poor, small company. https://www.bhvr.com/ Either invest in DBD, or hope that Hide or Die, Last Year: The Nightmare, and some other games on the horizon absolutely bomb. Otherwise . . . .

My monitor has gamma that I could adjust for DBD, but my gamma is set for where I need it for work (I work from home on this computer). I'm not screwing around with it just for a game. Every other damned game I own has a gamma adjustment built into it. So far DBD is the only one that doesn't.
Peer-to-peer game hosting, no gamma adjustment, this game is looking more and more low budget the more I mess around with it.

Dedicated servers are, period, far and above a P2P connection. This is why PvP games never operate on a P2P connection. It's also why the tournament, for example, was a joke just in concept, never mind the execution. No competitive game would even consider a P2P connection, and for good reason.
P2P is never better than a dedicated server in any regard, and to even suggest it being better, or even equal, is either double speak on behalf of the company, or a lack of IT knowledge. P2P is taking a risk to those doing it, and it always has been.
-
@ShowMeUrBirb said: Ticks work only on server-side. If you're having 200 ping, tick-rate doesn't matter. We already have players with 200-ish ping on P2P connection. Servers would crank this up for them by next 20-50ms.
I'm not an IT tho, I might be wrong.
Usually if you're running that kind of ping you have one of two issues, or a combination of them. You are either on subpar internet to begin with, or you are outside the region (such as in Korea linking to U.S. servers). Which is why I said they'd also have to set-up region-based servers. Overwatch does, Paladins doesn't, for example, and Paladins is crap to play outside the U.S.
But anyway, it's all a moot point. BHVR obviously doesn't want the dedicated server investment in regards to DBD. And I'm not really interested in playing a PvP game via P2P hosting, so it's probably time I move on. Peer-to-peer hosting should be left to co-op games, for obvious reasons.
-
@Peanits said:
Dedicated servers are not such a clear cut best option. Just a couple, for example:1: More lag for killers. Right now, everything is handled on your end. When you should get a hit, you get a hit. With a dedicated server, there's going to be a delay on everything you do. If someone vaults a window and you hit them them, you might not get a hit because by the time that command gets to the server, they're out of range and safe. It's important that the killer is able to consistently get hits, and missing a single one due to lag can buy the survivor a significant amount of time.
I'm sorry . . . but what? If you're going to run 30-tick servers, then maybe. This is why you run 60-tick servers, which is why they are run in FPS games. It's to take that lag on hits to an absolute minimum.
It's also why you run region based servers, otherwise, you run into the other issue you mentioned, which is exactly why Paladins is such a trash game if you're not U.S. based.
I've looked at BHVR as a company at their website. They certainly don't seem to be a small company. It just seems like they'd prefer not to make the necessary investment for servers in DBD.
Deathgarden has dedicated servers. I would assume they're at least 60-tick given that it's a shooter game. So, tell us again how dedicated servers would not solve problems in a game that is primarily melee based, when they were obviously good enough for BHVR's little fast-paced shooter? Because it makes no sense that they were good enough for such a fast paced game, but would suddenly cause so many lag issues in a much slower paced game.

@altruistic said: I play on PC. My Survivor is R1, been getting instant queues all day.
Yes, Survivor queues are near instant. It's the Killer queues that are taking upward of 20-30 minutes plus. There hasn't been a single complaint about Survivor queues. The complaints have all been about Killer queues.
-
@altruistic What platform? Because I know on PC, Killer lobbies are very bad. Even Streamers who usually always play Red Rank killer have gone Survivor for now, not due to juice (they admitted they're just buying the skins), but because their streams were broadcasting Lobby Simulator by Daylight instead of Dead by Daylight when they tried to queue as killer.
@Condorloco_26 After not being able to get a low-rank lobby all weekend (and I could before this event) as killer, I gave up and took Matt Cote's advice from earlier in the year and went to play something else. But, from what I am hearing, a lot of Survivors who just wanted to grind out the vials as quickly as possible were getting the juice and then suiciding on the first hook, so they could jump into the next lobby and do it again. As a result, deranking happened.
And while that would definitely screw the lobby queues for Red Rank killers, it fails to explain my low rank queues also taking forever.
-
@Keene_Kills said:
I'm Rank 11 currently on killer and still looking at 20-45 mins. lobbies daily since Saturday regardless of time of day. When they do fill, it's been pretty steady with SWF holding Rank 2s-18 mixed, so YMMV. It seems to be an odd time for queues across the board rank-wise.We saw the same thing when they did a double BP event immediately after releasing Spirit. Everyone who returned to the game apparently wanted to go Killer to play Spirit.
So what do they do with this event? They make it so, to get full 60 vials, you have to play both sides. Hey, that might look good on paper, but if they ever took the time to actually analyze their data, they'd have known this issue was going to happen again. A Game Design student still in school would be able to see that.
Honestly, DBD needs a new Game Lead at this point. I'm sure he's a great guy, but one decision after another, and it's apparent a change needs to be made.
It won't be, though.
He said on his stream last week that he wants DBD to be around for another six or seven years. I wish him the best of luck with that. Unless some of the upcoming games like Hide or Die or Last Year: The Nightmare bomb (which is a distinct possibility), DBD won't last that long outside of its dedicated Vets.
Maybe I should take his recommendation, though, and go play something else . . . .
-
@Whatislove At least on PC, this is not a problem only at the high ranks.
-
@AMOLUDUS Paladins has that exact feature. You can save up to five new loadouts per hero. At the beginning of the match, you click the loadout you want to use for that match.
It is a very nice feature over there.
You can also search for the loadouts of others and import them right into your slots. The wife and I have exchanged and tested loadouts for different heroes that way, often. I've also found some interesting loadouts from the community to test-run that way, too.
Actually, Paladins does a lot of things better. You don't have to grind for cards over there. All cards are unlocked automatically. They have five levels to them, and all start at the base level. There are five cards per loadout, and you have 15 points to raise their levels with. So, if you decided, to say, max one card to Level 5 in your loadout, you now only have 10 points between four more cards.
That system keeps it fun for the Vets, and doesn't make new players feel like they're in an Asian-grind nightmare. It's very new-player friendly. Which is not a term that BHVR seems to understand in the slightest.
-

@Master said: Ehm just that you know.
DDOS is actually even above "bannable" since it is actually illegal.Maybe you wanna tell your friend....^^
While true, it also depends on the country of origin as to what can, or will, be done. If the player is U.S. and the attacker in the U.S., it's a simple matter of refer it to the FBI. If the attacker is in Canada, there are law enforcement relations between us and them, but it still gets a little complicated.
If they're Russian, like the posts he mentioned that flooded his Steam profile, forget about it. We're too busy playing a bigger cyber cat-and-mouse game with the Russians, and a DDos attack in a video game isn't even going to blip their radar.
That's the core issue: If the individuals are in separate countries, lots of luck.
I'd also be more concerned about any potential swatting.
-
And to be honest, one could use a VPN to protect against it, but I have zero use for a VPN outside of this game, and absolutely refuse to pay extra (even a measly $4 a month) for a VPN because they refuse to put in dedicated servers. Instead, they put dedicated servers in Deathgarden, which is completely dead.
I'm new, and this game is becoming less and less worth playing the more I learn about it.

The console version of F13 just got dedicated servers a few months ago or so and I highly doubt that game has money pouring in to support it now. I got it a little over q year ago on steam and the daily numbers now are lucky to hit around 500 players. If a dead or dying game can afford it (without having any microtransactions) then I dont see why DBD cant have dedicated servers.Precisely, there is no reason not to have dedicated servers. The only thing I can surmise is either greed or laziness on the part of BHVR, or the possibility that they took a massive financial bath on Deathgarden and might be in a questionable financial position now, and don't want to let on about it.

The frame drop will make me auto miss them. Pretty tiltiing. Then when I'm playing survivor a killer will hit me and I'll frame drop into a wall and lose the speed to get away from him.

@GrannyonAcid Oh sorry for the confusion, I play on console but I do have a PC and you need a really good graphics card to have a smooth running game, especially on Dead by Daylight.
Part of that is that DBD is optimized for absolute crap. I mainly play Overwatch, and can run that game at the max graphics and never drop below 60fps, even when in the middle of the 6v6 team fights on a point, with all those particle effects going off at once.
This game, however, runs and lags like hell just on the mid-setting.

I think it's supposed to be related to how many people are playing survivor (80%) vs playing killer (20%). If the number of players trying to play killer is greater than 20% of the total active player base, they're going to have a harder time filling up a lobby because there are more slots for survivors to fill than there are survivors playing. On the flip side, if less than 20% of the total active player base is playing killer, their lobbies are going to fill up quickly, due to fewer slots for survivors to fill up, and consequently, survivors will have a harder time finding lobbies.Yeah, unfortunately, it's just a problem with the genre as a whole. It's actually the main reason I'm thinking that asymmetrical games might not be for me. I have limited play time, and I'm already tired of being forced to play Survivor just to get enough matches in that time. In the end, I think I might just stick with MMOs, MOBAs, and Hero-Shooters.
I'm hoping that maybe Hide or Die alleviates that issue since all 16 players start on the same side, and end-up switching sides during the match as the darkness transforms them. I already see that Last Year: The Nightmare is going to have a similar issue to DBD (5 survivors to 1 killer), unless they go the Friday the 13th route and six people queue and the killer-player is chosen at random. But that way wasn't too popular in F13 from what I understand.

I can see why Deathgarden failed. Who the hell would trust this Game Studio enough to actually buy a second game from them?

Ehi, guys, vials are not the world's centre: players' decisions are more diversified than you think, and I'm sure there will be enough survivors to make lobbies. I have never experienced long queues.Which platform? Because on PC, they have been insanely long already all weekend. Not only as a personal experience here on the forums, but even for Streamers I've been watching. Some of them who are killer mains already said to hell with it and went Survivor on PC for now just to have matches for their viewers to see.

@Bug_Reporter I got you
I waited 23 minutes for a Kiler lobby today. Said to hell with it, moved DBD to hidden games on Steam, and logged into Overwatch.
This isn't the first time I've had stupidly long KIller lobbies. It happened to me a little too often before the event, too.
I'm done.

Is there a way to unbug your lobby? I've tried to restart the game but it just keeps happening. I've waited 30+ minutes now but still not a single survivor. I get that not a lot of people are playing survivor but jfc..this is a little ridiculous.Last time it happened to me (PC) I had to bloody uninstall and reinstall the game.
I'm not doing that again. I'll just move on to another game, first.

@SpaceCoconut It might have turned into a novel, but you know what? You're spot-on, and I agree with you.

That just reads all kinds of wrong.

Maybe you'd better watch it. Just in the past two weeks the mods have come into threads when people have said something like that and warned them that it isn't their thread, it is a public thread, and any opinion or wording is not yours to police. Period.
So, yeah, this isn't your thread at all.
Now, as far as this: Let's all work together and sing kumbaya as we harvest the event? No. This is a PvP game. People can choose to do the event and take the risks, or just buy the skins and play DBD normally. Me? I chose to buy the skins I want. I'm just here to play DBD normally. That means working gens as a survivor, and when I play killer: chase and hook.
It's as simple as that.
I won't camp the little flower-power spots, but I'm also not going to stop chasing and hooking just so people can harvest them. Outmaneuver me and harvest the flowers. Otherwise, the Entity is waiting.

Still waiting

I'm worried that they will keep these in the game as a farming mechanic for cosmetics or currency. It definitely tilts the game time more in the killers favor so it works for both sides in that regard. They go away at the end of the event. But, I would not be surprised if BHVR is using this event as a test for possible secondary objectives at a later date.

There's always one, isn't there? @DeadByFlashlight got it right - this is why we can't have nice things. I don't understand the motivations of people like this. Surely the game is more fun if everyone is enjoying themselves? Why would you go out of your way to ruin someone's day like that? Everyone wants the cool skins. We're all in the same boat here, trying to get objectives as killer and as survivor to get the points we need. It just seems like there must be something seriously wrong if you're so lacking in empathy that you actually get joy from denying someone else a simple pleasure like a fun skin when it doesn't hurt you at all.Okay, even I'll admit the OP is going a bit overboard. But as a new player, I don't care about the event. I just want to play DBD and learn the ins and outs of being a killer. As far as the skins, I'll buy any I want from the store. As far as empathy for faceless, random internet people? No, I don't have any. They are faceless, random internet people that I am highly unlikely to ever meet again.
If I decide to login during the event, I'm just playing DBD normally. That means chase and hook. If they get their petals done in the meantime, that's fine. It's not like I intend to camp the flowers or anything. But I'm still going to be playing normal DBD.

I'm not reading all of that because... my god just look at it...You can't say you were robbed of your 4kill if you let the survivors do 2 gens (esp with the current event). You didn't earn it. You're not entitled to it or anything else. Work for your gains or be happy with what you've earned.
you completely missed the point
What point? There's a point in there? Jesus H. Christ, use punctuation and paragraphs. I'm not reading that wall of text. When people out there chant "Build the wall," I don't think that is what they mean.

Just wonder if that's bannable or not, the game is pretty much 4k (during the event) anyway and as soon as the first survivor suicides there is no point for the other 3 survivors to keep trying on 5 gens with ruin. Just want to be sure of suiciding is reportable or not.Nope. Even before the event, when I was watching one of the personal streams the Devs do, I asked if that type of stuff was bannable. The answer was: No, because it's too difficult to prove that it was done to throw a match.

Because the whole concept behind the RNG bloodweb is to create a constant BP sink to force people to keep playing for more BP. It's a ######### gimmick in a game where progression into Perks and Offerings is so vital to game play, but it's the pseudo-Asian grind knockoff they chose to employ.
Honestly, I would use DBD progression as an example to aspiring game designers on how not to do a system. And I might just do that the next time I teach a workshop. Especially since it is so new player unfriendly.

Not everyone wants to farm, some people just want to play the game. While you may like to go easy on people, not everyone likes to have people volunteer to be hooked, or to have to pretend to turn a blind eye so you can work on the event. If that's what you want to do, go nuts, but there's also people who just want to play the game. Ain't noting wrong with that.
I'm one of them. I'd like to just play some ol' Dead by Daylight. I don't care about the event. The two or three skins I want, I'm more than willing to just buy with cells.
