It's frustrating to be sure. No doubt about it.
They're working on it, but we don't what they're doing with it. All we have is Patricia's post in the News section from a couple days ago. They separate ping by region and implemented a region lock, but as far as the rank disparity in matches goes, she stated that they'll make adjustments to that in later updates.
So, as far as facing such different ranks in matches, they know about it and it's here until they eventually figure something out. But who knows how long that'll take.
-
@PiiFree: I understand where you're coming from in your list of issues with MoM, and you aren't wrong on its design points. That said, though, it's extremely common in PvP games today to make such design choices. The name of the money-making game is to continuously appeal to the broadest playerbase, and that includes folks that simply aren't going to put a ton of time into the game like the hardcore fans will (but will still spend in the cash shop), and those that will play regularly, but simply will never rise in skill level (but will still spend in the cash shop).
So, the occasional perk like MoM is going to happen.
Even in other games like Overwatch, Paladins, Realm Royale, and a recent change to Apex Legends, certain design choices are going to be made for that segment of people that I mentioned. Why? Because in all honesty, there's more of them than people who play a single game all the time, or are able to truly get good at a game. But those guys still spend, because they love cosmetics. And to get them to spend, you need them playing the game at least on some level.
The thing is, though, for those players that make the mistakes that require MoM, it delays the inevitable by a single hit, then. It gives them a very minor chance to escape being downed and hooked, but against any Killer that knows what they're doing, it doesn't change the end result.

Hey McCree, what time is it?
You know, them buffing that offspring of Satan yet again is one of the many reasons why I'm here, in Realm Royale, and in Apex. After three years, I just can't take Geoff Goodman's sorry excuse for hero balancing anymore. So sick of characters like Mei and the endless other CC/Stun abilities in OW. Not unbeatable by any stretch, just way too much annoyance and frustration.
Y'all think you have it bad? Go play that game regularly. :)

@Yorke93: Please bear in mind that I am not trolling you. I am honestly curious. With you guys having such insane wait times to play survivor, and then all the myriad other issues you have on that side right now, why does Ash coming out in a couple of days make a difference for you?
His release isn't going to fix the ongoing issues. Instead, you're going to spend money on him and pretty much remain where you are now as far as matches and wait times.
I'm asking because as much as I enjoy DbD, this fiasco has gone on long enough. I'm 46 and have been an Evil Dead fan since the original film released way back in 1981. Hell, I got to meet and talk with Bruce several times many years ago when working on a different Evil Dead license. And I refuse to purchase this DLC (or any subsequent releases) until Behavior fixes this mess.
At this point, the only thing that might light a fire under them is hitting them in the pocket.
-
Freddy. I can't stand playing him because the model is based off the remake, and the remake was total garbage.
-
@Saint_Ukraine: Thanks for the info. I'm on PC, so never got to test it when it leaked.
Yeah, okay then, it adds a minor (and I stress that) challenge to downing the survivor for one time. As a killer player, I don't see MoM being any more of an issue than DS was. Could they be annoying when facing more than one Survivor with the Perk in the same trial? Sure. Just like NOED is annoying for survivors.
But MoM isn't the end of the world, any more than DS was (despite what the forums liked to claim).

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesnt both Evil Dead and The Saw franchise have the same licensor?
They might for the characters/franchise. But when it comes to the likenesses of specific actors, no. For that, you go through the actor's Agent.
Back in my table-top game development days, when we licensed Evil Dead, we went to one place for the actual franchise license, and then had to go through Bruce's people to license his likeness to put on the artwork.
-
@Saint_Ukraine: Does it only work once in a trial, or is it every time you take 3-hits from an M1 attack?
If it only procs once per trial, then whatever, it's of no concern to me. Just adds a little more challenge is all.

Never mind.

Yeah my mistake 🤦♂️
@Speshul_Kitten: That said, though (and I meant to include this in my other post, but it's 3am), the overall player numbers for DbD are no doubt low.
SteamCharts has been in a decline more than usual, and even the recent DLC didn't give it the normal bump that a DLC would (making me wonder if Plague might not have sold as well). I've also noticed the 24-peak this week declining by an average of 1,000 to 1,500 day-to-day. Behavior is definitely messing things up, and I'm not sure even Ash will help it out, since Survivor side is a true mess right now to begin with.
-
@Speshul_Kitten said:
There are only ~10,000 people playing right now across all platforms. It’s the lowest I’ve seen it in a long time. Might have something to do with it.
@Speshul_Kitten: On SteamCharts, that would be PC only, not across all platforms, since it only counts players logged into the game via Steam.

The entity has destroyed his confidence.
I'm gonna head cannon this thing.
Ash figured out early on that the Entity, whatever the hell that is, has done something so these killers can't be damaged. They can be slowed down, but fighting them just gets your ass put on a hook. You end up back at the campfire, but being hooked still hurts like hell, so better not to do that.
So he'd going to keep playing whatever twisted little game he's been bungholed into until he can figure out how the hell to get away from this campfire and not have to look at other damned generator again.
Then? Then he's going to let the Entity do whatever it wants with everyone else. He's finally retiring to Florida.
-
Yeah. Ash is what they call a Paragraph, not a Chapter, just like Bill and Leatherface were. It's just Ash the survivor, no associated Killer or new map.
-

LOL does he really have the chainsaw hand?!? OMG the memes will be God tier.
You know, it is simply not going to feel right having Ash with the chainsaw and not being able to have him rev it up, tell the killer to "come get some," and then attack the killer.
This is going to feel so wrong. Man blunders his way to victory against Deadites, travels through time more than once, and then is castrated by the Entity and reduced to fixing generators and running for gates. Poor, poor Ashy Slashy. But man would I love to be sitting at the camp fire with him as he complains and tries to figure out what the hell is going on.
It's okay Ash. Just think of Florida.

@[Deleted User] said:
Of course Ash has cosmetics. His license was negotiated after the creation of the in-game store. The reason the older licensed characters don’t have cosmetics is because their licenses were negotiated before the store. “We’ll make new cosmetics for this character,” was never thought to be included in the deals BHVR made before the store.
Not necessarily. I'm sure the store was planned out long before we customers ever heard about it. As someone who has worked on licenses in the past (pre-Disney Star Wars, Highlander, Friday the 13th, Evil Dead, and others), what most likely happened was that the licensors for Myers, Freddy, Leatherface, and SAW simply didn't allow cosmetics. Their characters are iconic a certain way, and that was the only way they wanted them represented. Since licenses are often "as a whole," such a limitation could have easily also included any associated Survivors.
In the case of Ash, as I've stated before in threads today, Raimi and Campbell are usually very easy to work with (as such things go) when it comes to Evil Dead licenses.
-
I'm not so sure.
A killer cannot be killed in a trial. They are there until the end, whether they 0k, 4k, or somewhere in-between. At the end, they lose their current add-ons.
On the opposite side, a survivor can be in the game only a couple of minutes before hooked and killed, or until they escape at the very end. Survivors who escape, keep their add-ons. Those who die, do not.
I'm not sure there's a balance issue, since sacrificing a survivor, even if a Killer resorts to the infamous face-camping, loses them their add-ons. But there is no such mechanic in place for costing us killers our add-ons, so they are one-use.
-
As a low-ranked player with little time in DbD (because until recently, gray-rank Killer lobbies never popped for me, so I walked away from the game), I just don't care about the bloodpoint grind. I'll likely be low-ranked for a long time, since I don't play nightly and easily go several weeks to months playing other games with Family & Friends (they have no interest in DbD).
I just play for fun; just to play my favorite killers like Myers or Freddy, or interesting originals like Doc or Huntress.
At this stage as a new player, the BP grind for Teachables is so daunting with the endless parade of killers and survivors, that if I actually cared to focus on that, I would uninstall the game first. If I want that type of grind, I have MMOs I can go back to that actually have less grind.
One really has to love-to-grind to pick this game up as a new player and stick with it as a main game, nowadays. It's a different beast entirely if you've been here playing regularly for a while by this point. But for a new player? It's asinine.

Not only is deathgarden still around, they are still trying to sell it for 30 bucks a pop, with a 24 hour peak of 11, and an hour peak of 0.
And i know i mentioned this in my last post. But i really don't think Ash was a good way for them to get money. Sure, he's guaranteed to sell to survivor mains. But he's bringing in 3 perks, 1 of which is really strong, for which the killer side is getting 0 love to answer for.
I have a small hope that they will use the Ash addition to patch the broken loading screen and punish d/c's. So there's hope there for me. it's why i'm still playing a couple games every day. i have hope, i love this game. But it's like loving someone that's truly suicidal.
At some point you gotta accept you can't save them if they really wanna die.
Agreed. I don't know how many matches I'll be playing per week at this stage, myself. And as much as I absolutely love Evil Dead, I don't see myself tossing Behavior money for the DLC at this stage.
The game needs to be fixed. Then, I will gladly toss money their way again.
And even though I come to the forums, I'm also like the majority of players who do not. DbD is not my obsession or my only real game. I also play Overwatch, Paladins, Realm Royale, and Apex Legends. If Behavior takes too long fixing this mess, I am one of those players that will just stop checking in on the game and could be another lost player for months, a year, or for good.
I'm just one guy, but as SteamCharts shows: We kind'a add up.
-
@SmokePotion Yep. Plus, remember as I just replied to you in the other thread, Deathgarden isn't actually dead, per-se. If it was dead, it would be a past expense and loss.
Sadly, Deathgarden is an ongoing financial expenditure for Behavior, since it still has a team and Behavior is damned and determined to revamp the game and launch it yet again.
I think we can all count on one hand the number of video games that bombed, got revamped, and made a comeback.

sorry, instead of fixing the issue, they are distracting people with a new survivor dlc that's not going to do anything but hurt the killer side of the game.
I honestly think i'm done at this point. I'm not playing my usual times. I just hop on for a game or two every now and again. And half of them are 3 survivor games. but they don't seem interested in fixing that, they are interested in selling us stuff to replace things they nerfed. (MoM replacing DS) They hotfix the the hell out of Auric cell problems. but ask them to fix a frozen loading screen when there's been 2 major patches since it started? They wont even confirm they are working on the problem.
ps: I just want to add that this ash DLC is the first dlc they have EVER given us a release date for. and it's a week or so after the last dlc. Clearly they need money for something.
@SmokePotion, sadly, I have to agree with you. The way DbD is being run is like it's a completely F2P game where their only income is from DLCs and cosmetics. That alone would make me believe the game was failing to draw in new players, so their only option is to get the cash from the existing players that already paid the MSRP in the past.
Of course, that belief becomes a conviction when one looks at SteamCharts. Dead by Daylight is declining in a bad way, and it isn't the normal seasonal decline this time. Even the latest DLC failed to give it the bump in returning player numbers that a DLC usually would.
Right now, I see this game as in a spiral. The player base was already declining, the recent DLC failed to generate a bump in returning numbers (and therefore, likely didn't sell as well), and now they've created this matchmaker fiasco, the DC epidemic, and a host of other issues, that are driving more players away as the 24-hour Player Peak for DbD continues to get smaller.
Ash is popular, no doubt. But I don't see that DLC reviving what they've already lost. Not with the issues still front and center in the game, and affecting game play across the board.
Take the above issues, add in the financial loss Deathgarden caused, and the lawsuit against Behavior for the mobile game mess, and it's looking fairly likely, at least from the outside, that they're in need of money on some level. Especially when you look at Deathgarden as an ongoing financial expense. After all, the game still has a full team working to basically remake that thing even as I type this.

Didn’t Robert Englund die a few years ago?
No, he's still alive, We took my youngest son to see him here in Maryland at the huge horror convention last year. He saw Robert and Kane Hodder, and even had his picture taken on the 2nd day of the event with both of them, and then with Kane in full Jason costume.
My youngest is a huge horror fan. My father did special effects and my daughter (now 19) is in school for the same. So, the youngest knows all about the make-up and effects and that it isn't real. Hell, he used to fall asleep watching Halloween or Nightmare on Elm Street.
And yes, he plays Dead by Daylight. He's 9-years-old and loves playing the Doctor or Freddy. He's better than I am. He queues up and actually hooks people. :)

What's it like working in the horror industry? It's always been a dream of mine!
I've actually worked in several different genres for TV and film. Horror was one of my top 3, though. The funny thing is, depending on what you're on at the time, and when you're near the set, seeing some of that stuff in full costume and make-up is still unnerving. Even when you know damned well there's someone under it all.

I'm just happy a licensed survivor is going to look like how they did in the movie they came from
Thas's because there are generally two licenses you need. The first is for the fictional character from the copyright/trademark holder. The second, is for the actor's likeness, which you have to get from the actor. Sounds strange, I know, but that's how it operates.
Bruce is easy to work with, especially when it comes to his likeness for Ash Willaims. I fully expected the in-game avatar to look like him.
For Freddy, I wasn't shocked at all that it didn't look like Robert. He's a real ass to work with when it comes to his likeness, and expensive as all hell.

Oh, I fully expected Bruce to be in whatever trailer they put together. I've worked with him in the past, and he's very easy to work with and loves doing stuff for the fans. In his case, it's not an act like with a lot of actors. He's very down to Earth. He and Sam Raimi are both great guys.

The revert of the matchmaking revert needs to be instantly reverted ... in other words, bring back the old matchmaking until you have a working solution. Ideally before the weekend.
I'm a very patient person when it comes to the devs screwing up, but I'm done with this game on the survivor side, my patience is done. I've gone as solo survivor with random teams of actual rank 15 survivors against rank 1 and 2 killers, it's not remotely funny anymore because there's not a single gen getting done. All I can do is hurry from hook to hook and unhook people until everyone is dead. This. Is. Not. Fun.
Or, change the priorities to match against any player worldwide but match ranks properly. It's annoying to get red ping lobby after red ping lobby, but ... I can see the ping and dodge lobbies. I cannot see the rank discrepancies and dodge if I get a rank 1 killer with actual low rank players.
While I agree with you, Patricia's post basically alluded to that not happening unless they absolutely had to. Her post mentioned them sending it to "live" so they can gather the needed data. Which leads to the assumption that not enough players use the PTR. So, basically, the "live servers" are now being used to PTR the new matchmaker, allow them to gather enough data over time, make adjustments, et cetera.
So, basically, we're Beta Testing this matchmaker so they can get it to the point where, knock on wood, it eventually works as they want it to. In the meantime, our matches are going to imbalanced.
Sucks, but I guess that's what happens when the game has a declining playerbase and can't generate enough for PTR tests. Which creates a viscous cycle and possible self-fulfilling prophecy, as this mess is sure to send more players to other games.
They need to get it fixed. I don't care what new DLC they announced, and I am a huge Evil Dead fan, I'm not dropping another dime on DbD until they sort their crap out.

So like an avoid as teammate, similar to the one that used to be in overwatch? It could work but then people who didn't play EXACTLY how one person wanted them to play would get blocked from them and if other people have this mindset and did it too that one person would end up with long matchmaking for playing how he wants to play, sorry if this didn't make sense btw, I'm really tired and I can't think properly lmao
It could work only if there was an Avoid limit, like Overwatch has now. Back when they had Avoid Player in Overwatch, and it was unlimited, it was abused like hell. Which is why they'd removed it entirely back then, and didn't put in the version we have now until almost a year later. And that's only because people wouldn't shut-up about it, so Jeff basically said: Fine, but we're keeping it on a leash.
-
Not bannable or reportable. Pig didn't hold the game hostage since:
1) Your RBT going off and killing you allowed you out of the game.
2) Once your 4th teammate finished the generators, she hit the other two trapped in the basement with NOED, thereby ending their match through normal mechanics.
3) The final teammate could either use the gates or hatch to escape at that point.
Yeah, it was a crappy thing to do as killer, but since the game ended through normal means in the end (RBT, NOED, gate/hatch escape) the game was not held hostage. Holding the game hostage means the only means of ending it is a DC.
-
Patricia basically admitted the matchmaking is broken in her News post yesterday. While they turned the "new" matchmaking back on yesterday, this time separating it by region to fix the ping issues, she stated that the rank disparity in matches would be handled in a later update.
So, yeah, for the time being, there are probably going to be a lot of matches made by the MM like that one.

I feel like comparing DBD to overwatch is a bit much also and I feel that's why there isn't a current punishment for dc's tbh this game isn't fit for true competitive play.
Might want to read that again. I wasn't comparing DbD to Overwatch. I was answering his question about a system being able to discern between an intentional DC and someone's internet dropping. I was using Overwatch as an example on why that is very unlikely, since even Blizzard is unable to make that type of determination and they run far better tech.
There was no actual DbD to Overwatch comparison. That would be an apples to oranges comparison, since they aren't even in the same genre of video game.
-

May question is can they distinguish between the difference from someone that purposely DC's from someone that DC's because of game issues or net? I know on ps4 there has been a lot of dcing because of the game. It's happened to myself and a few friends.
Unlikely. Even Blizzard has admitted that their systems are unable to tell the difference between a purposeful disconnect and someone's internet going out, thus why even your internet dropping and dropping you from a ranked match in Overwatch will result in a ban and loss of SR.
I would wager that if a company as large and wealthy as Blizzard doesn't have tech that can determine the difference, then a company like Behavior doesn't either. Especially when Blizzard even uses their own proprietary game engines that they create in-house, and Behavior just licenses Unreal.

Oof that's not good. I'm on ps4 to be fair. And it was midday. Like inside I hope it's as good later tonight, but for now it seems better than the 30 mins guarantee wait.
My real test will be tonight between 9pm and midnight, east coast time. That's my usually available window to play video games. So, how my Rank 19 queues are during that time will determine whether or not I should invest time in DbD right now.

@Carpemortum said:
@Kilmeran just tried. Got a game in under a minute. Left to try again. Got another in just about 2.
Happy atm. As long as it doesnt get abysmally long later in the night.
Mine are erratic at best. Just tested three times. I'm on PC in the U.S.
First time, got a Rank 19 killer match in about 4 minutes total time, between finding a match (time unknown) and then it flipping over and four survivors popping in. My Survivors were ranks 15-11. Managed to have one DC after I downed them. Scarified one. Hooked the other two one or two times each. In the end, two escaped.
Second time, it took me a little over 8 minutes for it to flip over and survivors then fill it. Survivors were around the same ranks, managed a 3k.
Third time, I never found a match in the 15 minutes I let it run, so ESC'ed out closed down the game.
What is obvious to me is that there are very few people in the gray ranks, which is why all my matches (even before the first revert) consistently have Survivors in the rank 15-11 range. Once they make the next adjustment to get rid of the Rank disparity, if I'm still in gray ranks (since I don't play DbD as a main game), then I'd probably be better served not playing at all. The main thing I'm reading from that is that DbD is not bringing in enough new players at this point, so the gray ranks are a wasteland. Which is a shame.
That was the issue I had when I bought the game last summer, and why I stopped playing before I could get out of the gray ranks. The lobby times are so horrendous in those ranks, that I spent far more time looking for a match than playing in one. I'm just not willing to spend more time in lobbies than matches, especially when it's a matter of a double grind: bloodpoints and Pips.

What would be this insane advantage? Consoles are soon going to have 60 fps, so performance isnt a reason anymore.
I could only think about controller aim, but then this is a killer specific thing and PC survivors play with controller on PC aswell because it doesnt matter at all.
So how would console players be disadvantaged? Usually console players never get tired of making clear that they are just as competitive as PC players
It wouldn't even be controller aim. I have a friend who only plays on PC via a controller, and he hit Rank 3 in DbD months ago as killer before he stopped playing entirely.
In games like Overwatch and the like, controller is definitely a disadvantage. Not nearly as much in a slower game like DbD. Hell, not even for survivor. There is a Twitch streamer for PC who is consistently Red Ranks as a survivor main, and he only plays via controller.

Last Year when it comes to steam?
I'm saying the same thing most people are. "Sure, if they take out the cross talk."
They have to take out cross-talk and allow the ability to choose to play killer, as opposed to the random-choice system them have in place like F13 used. Otherwise, I've no personal interest in Last Year, either.
That said, though, unless Behavior gets their crap sorted in the next week or two, I'm done here. I'll just remove it from my play rotation, and continue on with Overwatch, Paladins, and Realm Royale. The latter two just dropped their new Battle Passes today, anyway.

-
The devs have a really full plate right now.
No. Their higher-ups chose to take on all those endeavors. And then in the middle of it, they also chose to push out matchmaking changes, then revert them, and make an already bad situation even worse. They also chose not to listen to PTR feedback about changes, and press forward anyway with the typical game studio "we know best" attitude.
So, they're in the absolute hellhole of a mess they have now. They self-inflicted it, whether it was Matt's leadership, his bosses, or both of the above.
I've not only complained as a customer, I've grown fed-up enough that I've stopped logging in now and even trying to play. I've taken the money I was going to give them for the Legion and Plague DLCs, since I intended to complete my DLC collection, and instead just gave it to another studio for the Battle Passes that released today in two of their games. Something I was going to skip and spend it here, since I was able to get matches at all times of night and play the game.
Matt or whoever is leading this fiaco managed to give me every reason to not spend on this game and instead spend elsewhere.

Which platform? On PC, I can get rank 20 survivor matches, but my Rank 19 killer sits in lobby forever and never gets a match before I give up around the 15-20 minute mark now.
Unfortunately, I enjoy killer far more than survivor. I'm not going to play a side I don't really enjoy just to get a match. I'll just play another game first.
Before the revert, I was getting Rank 19 killer matches within 3-4 minutes even at 1:30am at night on the east coast. I was generally facing survivor ranks of 15-11, but was getting 2k-4k a majority of the matches.

You bring up deathgarden, which brings up another point to think about.
The companies financial health might be deteriorating.
Not only did Deathgarden die a sad death, but they just got through a major lawsuit after it was revealed they stole fallout shelters code and used it in the Westworld game (to the point that bugs that were in fallout shelter were in the Westworld mobile game)
makes you wonder if this is the only thing keeping them alive atm. And they are killing it.
Indeed. And those exact thoughts have crossed my mind several times already. Especially since there was a post a week or three ago that linked to the deal Behavior made with Starbreeze to purchase DbD in its entirety, and it involved Starbreeze getting a huge chunk of DbD revenue until the purchase price was paid off. In other words, they are paying Starbreeze in installment plans from a majority of their sales revenue.
We can only assume that process is still taking place, since there was never a follow-up that stated they've "completed" the purchase and are finally free-and-clear from Starbreeze and that financial obligation.
So, take those payments to Starbreeze, the lawsuit, and the loss on Deathgarden, and it certainly lowers this consumer's confidence given the ongoing state of DbD.
This is where the makers of Last Year: The Nightmare should be kicking themselves in the ass. While the folks at this forum are die hard fans of DbD, for the average player that isn't and doesn't visit here, Last Year could have tried to grab them. Instead, they chose to launch on the Discord platform first instead of Steam. The game has been out for months with no fanfare and absolutely no Twitch presence. And that's what is allowing DbD to really hold on. For this type of survival horror, they're the only real game in town right now.

Fornite has crossplay so I don’t see why not.
Sony is very strict on where they allow crossplay and picks-and-chooses what Game Studio to do it with. Epic Games' Fortnite is one of the exceptions, not the norm.
Hi-Rez, for example, does crossplay between PC, Xbox, and Switch for Paladins. They do it between PC and Xbox for Realm Royale, and will be adding the Switch to that cluster when that version launches this Fall or so. But Hi-Rez already said Sony denied allowing the PS4 to crossplay for Paladins and Realm Royale.
So, it really comes down to where Sony will greenlight it for PS4.
