As long as there is no downside to tunneling // no reward for not tunneling, it will remain the meta gameplay strategy. The past maybe 20 survivor matches I've played, 19 of those Killers were tunneling and it worked.
It's highly efficient with very low risk of failure.
So there's only one way to address tunneling: Give Killers a better alternative. It's been like this since 2016, camping and tunneling were always meta gameplay strats and in the past 9 years, BHVR has not found a valid alternative to promote better gameplay tactics. It is what it is.

I'm playing since 2016, almost 4000 hours of playtime and let me tell you a secret. I got absolutely nothing.

Because everyone who doesn't have a SWF is switching to killer now because solo queue survivor isn't playable anymore so theres way more killers than survivors
Solo Survivor is in a really bad state right now, I agree. The common Killer tactics are unfun to play against and the matchmaking seems to be even worse now than before....

If they are survivor mains that switched to killer, they probably are playing like that. They will start failing once they get to high or mid MMR. But I am doubtful that killers get a small buff, and then all of a sudden people completely role switch to them.
tbh I've seen many posts already of Survivors threatening to quit the game or switch over to Killer. The Killer queue times are also ridiculously high at the moment, which is new to me.

Thanks for all the comments, I'm relieved that some people feel the same but I'm sad for Billy.
I think the map changes are the most impactful, it feels like the chainsaw is now (if at all) a tool to get from one side of the map to the other rather than something you use aggressively in a chase to put survivors down.
Sidenote; I played a few rounds of Blight (haven't played him much) and I don't even know why I would ever go back to Billy apart from memeing.
Have a good day all

This only holds true for most matches. There are Killers with certain loadouts that have an edge even over strong teams, Spirit with Yakuyoke+MDR with Ruin/Undying/x/x for example. Now that I think about it, that´s propably the only loadout that´s left that has a significant advantage over a good team.
Equal preparations is the key word. If a Killer brings strong add-ons and an ebony mori while the Survivors bring nothing at all, those players didn't prepare equally for the match. Surely there are certain loadout that are strong than others but as Killer, having to rely on them to become somewhat even with the Survivors power is a bit ridiculous.

I would be interested to see the unedited version though - it skipped from having someone on the hook and someone down in a corner to having the hooked person escape and the downed person at full health.
Even in saying that, these matches where teams just focus the gens and not make save and come prepared with toolboxes like that, are pretty rare - it's not every match, that's not to say it's not going to happen at all, but it's rare. And I've seen matches just as quick where the killer has stomped all 4 survivors, again rare but it happens.
I think that's where it comes down to in the end; A Killer is mostly powerless when facing a good team of Survivors while good Survivors are always be in the power role - regardless of the Killer.
The Killers power lies in utilizing the most from the mistakes the Survivors made. If they make no mistake, you can't apply pressure and therefore lack any form of power. It's not like that when playing Survivor - then you're in the power role UNTIL you make a mistake. Only then the tables can turn to the Killers favour.
When 5 players of equal skill and preparation meet, the Killer has much lower chances of winning and that's what makes those matches unbalanced and unfair.
-
Those stats surely are meaningful, especially when we consider that every 2nd match includes a DC, AFK, suicider and/or game-throwers.
They used to split the results up in ranks, are those informations also available?
It would be really nice if we actually had full transparency over such statistics - with more relevant background information - maybe then these graphes would appear a bit less.... manipulative.
-
From a totally non-biased point of view, I would say that these players are either tired and burned out of playing normally (for whatever reason) or they simply enjoy to play that way.
Being a "retired" Killer main, plenty of times I've thought; "GODDAMN, that was an annoying match! Next match I swear I will facecamp ANYONE caught!".
It's quite simple, bad experiences lead to bad behaviour - just like in RL.

I cant wait for iri head to be gone, just had a game where I was facing a rank 1 P3 huntress who did the iri head/infantry belt combo with ruin/undying and brought the midwhich map offering. Got her first two kills before 5 gens were even done thanks to solo qeue. I cant wait for iri head to be gone because when its in the hands of really good huntress players then it can become really broken really fast, hell even if the huntress is mediocre they will still probably get a 3-4k. I know the huntress rework is(hopefully) removing the iri head in favor of something else, what do you think that new add-on will do?
She got her first two kills before all the 5 gens were done - and that is a problem?
The entitlement is real, lol!
From a Killers point of view in regards of time management, the first two kills should happen latest after 3 gens were done. If the Survivors are at 1 gen left and still 3 alife, you're done as Killer.

They honestly just need to fix the ranking and matchmaking system.
As it stands the current ranking system funnels everyone into red ranks. When red ranks should really only have the top players in it. In that same vein, ranking up should definitely be much harder than it actually is.
Instead of actually fixing the ranking system, they're essentially going to do away with it entirely with MMR.
Damn right, the ranking system is nothing but an indicator for the total playtime during a season.
What always confused me is that the supposed "Skill Based Matchmaking" had no relation to the actual Ranking System - how does that make any sense? Not to mention that the Emblem System is contraproductive when we're talking about rewarding skillful plays. Geting a 4k in 2 minutes ends in a depip or safety pip at best. The same goes for Survivors that demolish a Killer and escape after only one person had been hooked.
Another issue; Survivors are only skins, all of them work the same way so it makes sense to give them the same ranking. Killers however are completly different and someone with 2000 hours on Nurse might belong to Rank 1 when playing her - but certainly not when for example playing Huntress for the first time. This does not promote playing a different Killers once you reached high rank.
So I guess that means there are no plans for a new ranking / matchmaking system? A damn shame, I got plenty of good ideas!

Feel free to masturbate yourself to sleep good sir on top of that masterful demonstration of logic. Your logic is silly and flawed.
"Is that girl beautiful?"
"Well her boyfriends thinks so, but I dont".
2 things can be true at once. Rank matters to a point but it doesnt matter a lot more. Its very general statement where context matters, and if you cant get your head around that then I dont know what to tell you. Good day sir
LMFAO!
You realize that looks are completly subjective?
But a good topic actually, because despite what society is trying to tell you; the look of a person DOES matter when you're looking for that partner. It may not matter for everyone as much but it DOES matter, always, in 100% of cases. Just sometimes more or less. But it DOES matter.
Can you make me an example as to why you think Rank does not matter? Like what context are we talking about here? When your little brother with 2 hours of playtime is playing with your account of 2000 hours, then that rank means nothing? Is that where you're coming from?
-
PRETTY GOOD JOB SO FAR!
The story repeats... Over and over again... They always manage to mess up more than previously and at that point that's actually quite hard to do,,, Well done BHVR!
LOL the guy above.
Not even a full week into it and they already are working to address it. That is a very fast response in my opinion.

Nuance is a foreign concept I see.
As I said, most of the time rank doesnt matter. At all. Even if you suck at the game a lot, all you need is a bit of luck and you too can be a red rank. Not skill. Just luck.
Yes the better players will be red ranks....if they play the game. If they dont then some yellow ranked people can easily be better than a lot of red ranks. Because as I have been hammering home here, a lot of red ranks are not any better than many purple and many green ranks.
All I said that I guess could be interperet as "contradictions" would be the survivor/killer thing. But I will still stand by that. You have to be slightly lucky as a survivor to get into red ranks, or a good survivor. You have to be very lucky as a killer, or a good killer. Yes both can be true at the same time. The difference here and why I still stand by my previous statement is. You have 3 chances to get a good team mate, and 3 others to fall back on if you are kind of bad. As a killer, sure you have 4 chances to get a potato survivor, but you still have to get kind of lucky to find the right survivor and if you make a mistake then you have no one to fall back on. And even if you find that survivor there is no guarantee that its gonna hurt the team. If you kill 1 survivor but there is only 2-3 gens left. Sure its not a perfect situation for the survivors but its definitely not a great situation for you either and now you dont have a potato survivor to generate map pressure.
1 < 3 is pretty easy math in my opinion.
I hope this makes it clear to you why I doubt there is any contradictions. Two things can be true at the same time.
Rank either matters or it doesn't matter. If it SOMETIMES matter then that still means Rank matters. If you never get drunk but SOMETIMES you get drunk, that still means you get drunk... SOMETIMES. But whatever, I believe that you are too confused to be worthy to discuss this matter because as I said, you constantly contradict yourself.

Most streamers will also only show their "God-like" games as killers and rarely show when they're stomped on by great survivors.
Couldn't you make it sound a bit more biased? It sounds almost as if you're a Killer main!

@Reaver_Raziel said:
I would still say rank doesnt matter. To a point. Because at red ranks a lot of people still play like absolute potatoes. It is as if there is missing a whole different ranking system within the red ranks alone. But even beyond that, I dont know about this claim that some rank 14 play as well if not better than some rank 1s, there might be a few but not a lot. But I will say that between rank 10-1 almost doesnt matter, and fear for playing against some rank 10's more than I do some rank 1s. Meaning that the ranks are kind of iffy in there intention for matchmaking.
But with all that said, without turning this into a killer vs a survivor thing, its a bit easier for survivors to get to red ranks than it is for killers. Because if the killers make a bad play and chase a good survivor, the bad survivors can sit on gens the entire game, get a few altruistic actions in towards the end, and possibly get saved by their good team mates. Where as for killer, unless they find potatoes, they have to do all the heavy lifting themselves.
Now how often this happens I cant say, but I can say that if you play enough you will find enough potatoes to kill (otherwise the bad survivors getting into red ranks dont make sense) and if you play enough you will get matched with good survivors that can carry you. But in the end you still will end up getting their with some new skills.
TL;dr rank doesnt matter....a lot of the time. But in general you probably wont climb beyond purple ranks without having some amount of skill.
You realize that your whole post is a shitload of contradictions?
-
I always said Victory Cube was better than this Emblem farming simulator. I am very curious how exactly the current system works because I have absolutely no explanation for all the unfair matches we keep getting even after 50 matches.
And yea, anyone saying that played on Rank 1 knows that it's a whole different level than Rank 20-5. There's a reason people deranked on purpose because they got tired of the "tryhards" (the people that actually WIN when they play for it).

The most obvious thing you will see when the new system is active is that there will be a greater variation of Ranks in a single match. Rank 1s playing Rank 20s? It’s possible, don’t panic when you see this, as Ranks are not a true indicator of a player’s skill and are no longer used for matchmaking.
huh if you did read it. and are upset over this change about ranks. shows your wrong. Because this part clearly says ranks are not not a true indicator of a player’s skill and are no longer used for matchmaking.
Rank 1 and Rank 20 can be in the same skill level but 4 hours vs 4000 hours CAN'T BE ON THE SAME SKILL LEVEL, yet they still get matched together several matches in a row. There's people here showing several different matches as low rank potato Killer against full red ranks and the other way around.
-
Oh, you're that classy "doesn't happen to me so it can't be true" guys. Tell me, Sherlock, how does the system work?
How do you justify people ACTUALLY being new (people that don't know how to hit skill checks, don't know that Hillbilly chainsaw can oneshot,..) being matched against people with thousands of hours? One guy literally had 4 hours as Nurse today, 4 hours and we were 4 red rank Survivors. The Nurse made a total of around 6000 Bloodpoints.
These people are not smurfing or coming from PS4, they ARE new and from what I see ingame and now here on the forum, it's for everyone like this even after 50 matches and more.
E: And if you're tired of these threads I have a very simple but effective solution for you: STFU next time you see one. You don't need to post on every thread that you're tired, no one cares.

I was being facetious. I'm just tired of people complaining about MMR without understanding how the system even works. Seeing games like this right after the system goes live is not a sign that MMR is broken. Seeing games like this after a lot of time has passed and you've had a chance to play a lot with the new ranking system would be a sign that the algorithm needs work. It's been 3 days, though. For all we know this was OP's second game with the new matchmaking and they decided to make a post about it.
I have 2000 hours in this game and been playing 4 hours a day, every single match looks like this. No offense but you must be insane if you think people with 10-30 hours against 4000 hours Killers is justified. You can check my steam account before claiming such nonsense you have absolutely no idea of. Pathetic to excuse this.
-
Tru3 is incredibly entertaining to me because he is almost constantly complaining about something to justify the outcome of a match - or at least that's what it feels like. It's actually hilarious and I am really not sure if he's serious or just playing his role as Tru3. It's pure entertaining to me and I don't even mean that as an offense, I often agree with what he says but the way he communicates is just fun to me.
Dowsey is really educational which is great if you want to learn but it can get a bit tiresome, he is more or less just commenting what he's doing and why he's doing that. It's great for beginners but not really entertaining. Same goes for Otz I guess.
I think Ralph is more my guy, he appears to be pretty natural while playing, which means he allows himself to get angry and not trying to hide his emotions unlike other streamers. He has a similar opinion about the state of the game and while playing, I feel like he has the exact same thoughts.
-
It's not a win-win situation at all.
These discussions would be so much better if the people had at least some basic knowledge about the game.
Hint: Killers "Chaser" Emblem. Rings a bell?
-
Top Tier Nurse btw.
If that's top tier then I'm actually godlike.
-
Fun fact: Peanuts sounds like "Pii nuts"
-
What if something happens outside of my control (e.g. Internet outages)?
Penalties will start off small enough that the occasional outage should not be noticeable; your timer should be gone by the time your Internet comes back on, for example. If you are losing connection frequently, please be sure to resolve your issue as soon as possible.
Losing connection to matches negatively affects the enjoyment of the other four players in the match.

Then why is it that at red ranks, the kill rate goes up? Presumably these are some of the best survivors in the game? Maybe survivor pipping is too lenient?
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/868111#Comment_868111
To be fair both sides depend on strong perks to succeed. I don't see a lot of off meta killer builds in the higher ranks either.
High rank Killers are generally more skilled than high rank Survivors. It's a lot easier to rank up as Survivor and you can easily get boosted to red ranks while being an absolute potato at the game. High rank Killers don't just end up in high rank, they need the skill to reach that rank.
High rank Survivor =/= High skill Survivor
-
The only thing these stats show is that most Survivors play like potatoes, that's it.
Every single Killer has above 60% kill rate even though some of them are actually hot garbage.

Coincidentally, she also happens to average three kills per game if not higher (with the target being two kills two escape). Fun is definitely a factor, but not the only thing that's considered. A game is meant to be fun though, advocating for not making the game fun is a hard sell.
Allow me to ask a few question, do you consider disconnects as kills in that case? And additionally, do you consider matches with disconnects when you make such analysis?
I know from the past (Freddy) that you in fact considered disconnects as kills and that you counted unfair matches with disconnects for such statistics - regardless of the unbalance that was forcefully created by a Survivor.
I remember that old Freddy was also considered an "overperforming" Killer" because apparently he had such a high "kill" count. What you / the developers forgot to consider is that the disconnects and the unbalanced matches were responsible for this, not Freddy himself.
-
I'm sure he was talking about themselves and not about you *looks at 4 DS* :-)
-
Developers like to call this "improved performance" :-)
-
I don't want to play with console scrubs... PC MASTERRACE!
-
Nope, still can't see her...
I think I'm going to start a new thread in the OT section;
"Where's Blendette?"
Funny idea, searching for claudis.
-
No, an infinite tier 3 Myers has an increased lunge range and an increased vaulting speed, two advantages of big impact when it comes to the loopability of a Killer. Looping a Plague while injured is a lot easier than looping an EW3 Myers while healthy, I hope you are aware of that.
-
So if I play with a friend and they forcefully pull the plug during the loading screen it won't cause an infinite loading screen? I don't think that's the case but I haven't had the chance to test it - but that's what I meant.
If a player loses the connection to the host (for whatever reason) it causes an infinite loading screen. I suppose crashes are excluded from that, I already noticed that aswell.
This would mean it's not really game related (or not exclusively) but can actually be done forcefully to piss off the other players.
-
Thanks for that input, however the discussion was about how wise it is to use the fountains when infected.
No harm meant but your statement made it look as if you support people that use fountains because "the Plague is still loopable even with the corrupted purge". While this might be true in some situations, that doesn't justify using the fountains ;-)
-
Dude obviously there are places where you can still loop her, stop nitpicking. You did get the point or didn't you?
I can loop a 115% Killer on any existing loop, all I need is a pallet or window. I can also loop a Nurse on certain maps in certain areas, that doesn't mean the Nurse is now all of a sudden loopable, does it? Of course there are exceptions. No Killer is 100% loop-proof, not even Nurse.
-
You don't get it, do you? You can loop a 115% Killer for minutes relatively easy, depending on the map.
You can't loop a Plague with corrupted purge for more than 20 seconds regardless if you're injured or healthy. It's almost as if you give The Clowns gas the ability to damage Survivors.
Not to mention that it takes her 1 second to put you back into the infected state. You gotta be F-Tier if you really think using fountains doesn't make a difference for her. She can puke on me all she wants as long as it does nothing but infect me. Give her the corrupted perk and no chase will last longer than a few seconds.
-
That's what I mean. People crash / disconnect / forcefully close the game and the result is that the game takes forever to load. It's not something caused by the game but by the players connecting.
-
You're a gen? People hate gens, that explains a lot.
-
Another Killer that makes me go absolutely crazy as Survivor - not because of the Plague or her abilities but because of the way she showcases all the braindead players, just like the Legion does.
Constantly being reminded of the incompetence of your teammates has got to be one of the most frustrating things in this game.
-
Survivors have a problem with a 4 minutes bleed out timer but they have no problem sitting on the hatch for 40 minutes.
I'll never understand this logic.
-
Ban all of them.
...not just because it will purge the playerbase but because those players deserve to get banned.
Over years now they've been constantly ruining the matches for other players - no need to have mercy with antisocial, egoistic scum.
-
If Survivors wanted quality gameplay they wouldn't be playing Survivor in first place.
-
And you need to stop acting as if everyone plays like you do.
I already aknowledged that many SWFs indeed just play for fun, would be nice if you now could aknowledge that many others do quite the opposite. Using SWFs like yours as a measurement of balance is simply false. You just said yourself, you don't tryhard - you just want to mess around with your friends / family. Totally fine, but that means you most likely won't (and shouldn't) manage to escape.
Tryhard SWF squads create an incredibly unbalanced playground and quite ironically, those are also the players that abuse SWF to win. They WANT to win after all. So why is the game not balanced around those players?
I really don't care if YOU don't play to win, in the end all you do is create boring matches for me as the Killer. I care about high skill matches where people actually want to win, that's where proper balance should take place.
Why would YOU care about balance if you never play to win? So I completly understand that you fail to see the real issues with voice communication. They're non existent because you just play for fun anyway.
-
Why should you not get punished for your altruism? You messed up, you get punished for that. Call it "Behaviours Selection".
-
No, that's good for YOU!
