@Justified, Something else: You mentioned that certain Fog Whisperers will have their communities attack people on Twitch and on Steam. If the Streamer is clearly and blatantly taking such action, file a complaint with Twitch. They will be investigated and potentially shutdown. Twitch allows people on the platform as of the age of 13, meaning there are underaged veiwers and players in Twitch. They have to take action, or risk potential lawsuits.
As an example, a Streamer is not allowed to drink alcohol on the Stream. I've encountered a couple that have done so repeatedly and openly. I filed complaints with Twitch, and in both instances the channels were shutdown.
Being a Twitch Streamer is a business. As a real-world business owner, I am bound by State and Federal regulations. If I go into a partnership on a project with another company, I am bound by those guidelines. Fail to adhere, and there are repercussions, in some cases the loss of your business. The same applies to Twitch Streaming.
So, if they are actually having their communities take such actions on their behalf, go to Twitch about it. That is a huge no-no. Behavior should be concerned as well, since it is happening based on play-time in their game, they've officially sponsored said Streamer, and the player being targeted could be under 18 since Steam is also a minimum age of 13.

@TheBean, What's even worse is that they never tested the Ash perks for bugs on the PTB before release. It was just the console perk leak, PAX, release.
Had they properly tested the DLC before taking people's money for it, we might not be where we are now.
I left DbD shortly after Spirit released because I grew sick of how things were handled here, from issues within the game that weren't being addressed or fixed, to them being in-bed with certain Streamers who were to become (and did) Fog Whisperers. I came back a week ago, and still haven't purchased the Legion, Plague, or Ash DLCs. I was testing the waters.
I'm very strongly leaning toward being another -1 on the SteamCharts player count again. I see that absolutely nothing has changed. If anything, it's gotten a hell of a lot worse.
-
@thestonedone, Yeah, as others have stated, if you can access the game at all, then there's no ban in place. There are only game-bans. There's no such thing as a survivor or killer ban.
As DwightLivesMatter suggested, I would check if something changed on your firewall or internet ports. Did Win 10 have an update recently? Once in a great while, it'll screw something up in settings. I had that happen once to me in regards to launching Overwatch, and had to google a settings adjustment. Did your ISP do some sort of server update or port change on their end? That sometimes happens, which can affect your ability to host a game as Killer. Again, you'll have to google a fix.
I'd look into those possibilities, or something else along those lines.
-
Since the beginning of video game forums, there have been "I quit" threads. Just like there have inevitably been just as useful threads like this one complaining about them. Been going on for about 20 years now, will be happening 20 years from now, too.
And neither of your two sides ever accomplish a damned thing.

@GrandpaBill24 The Tall Man and Reggie Bannister from the Phantasm franchise. The final film, Phantasm Ravager, came out a couple years ago, right before the actor for the Tall Man, Angus Scrimm died at age 96.
The first film debuted in 1979, from Don Coscerelli.

Considering how long they've promised the Freddy rework, I wouldn't hold your breath on either killer getting reworked.
-
@danara, sorry to tag you again, but meant to reply to your original post.
I'm a killer main. I find survivor, at least right now, a bit boring. I'm sure that will change at some point, but for now I like being the killer a lot more. I like being some of my favorite Iconic slasher genre characters like Myers or Bubba or Freddy. I don't feel that way for Pig, even though I find her fun, mainly because there were so many killers that John Kramer took under his wing throughout the series. Amanda was just one of them.
Anyway, I don't stress as killer. I came from Overwatch where you are so reliant on your team that even if you had the game of your week, one or two really bad teammates could still lose you the match. Repeatedly. So, you learn to not get too stressed over a win or loss once you deal with that for three years.
I patrol that map and listen to generators. You can hear them from a decent distance with a good headset. If it's active, I patrol the area and circle my way in, since typically a survivor will flee when the heartbeat gets close. I usually see them trying to get away and chase from that point.
I don't bother camping. Let 'em get unhooked. I'll probably catch them again. The only exception to that is if BBQ indicates one is near. Then I'll patrol that area. At my low rank, survivors tend to go for the dumbest unhooks known to man. So, I'll usually then pursue and down the unhooker and hook them. Easy two stacks of BBQ. Sometimes, rinse and repeat. I've gotten all four stacks fairly quickly that way. Otherwise, I'm off to around where the auras were, and if someone sneaks in for the unhook, that's fine.
So far, the low rank survivors really love their flashlights. So much so that I've gotten use to facing them. Now if I get blinded, that is totally on me.
You win some, you lose some. I've had a couple matches where I got some hooks, but no sacrifices. All four escaped. I just shrug and move on. Hell, in every slasher film ever made, the Killer loses in the end, anyway. Even the 2018 Halloween film. Myers got his ass kicked and lost three survivors in the end. I mentally chalk it up to an internal joke when they all escape: Those survivors were under contract to live through the movie.
The final thing that I do is keep after-match-chat closed (I'm on PC). The game is very relaxing when you don't see any potential text chat at the end of the match. I just check my BP gain, then carry on. I don't care about Piping or rank. I just want BP. That's all I play for. I stopped caring about Rank in any game once I walked away from Overwatch Competitive over a year ago. For me, the moment I decided that Rank didn't matter in the end, playing video games became fun again.

Yeah I’ve found he is very viable which is good because I’ve been leveling up Bubba for his teachables, mainly bbq and chilli lol and good lord is he really down there in strength. Yeah if i have a lucky time chainsawing multiple people then the game usually goes well, but that doesn’t normally happen. I’ve found Michael much more consistent in getting 3Ks and 4Ks compared to him.
@danara, I just tonight, finally got the BBQ teachable unlocked on Bubba. To be honest, I've just been using him as an M1 killer. If there is a clear opportunity to chainsaw, I'll take it, but his M2 is just too situational on a lot of maps I keep getting.
Yeah, it's been boring, but I've been getting all four stacks of BBQ most games, so he's been a BP generator for sure.
Not too worried about Franklin's right now. I've noticed that even at my low rank, the survivors tend to find their items again, anyway. So, I stopped running it, and don't see it being a regular part of my loadouts for the time being. I'll unlock that at some later time.
I average 2k or 3k with Bubba. But, yeah, I can average 3k or 4k more consistently with Myers. He's who I intend to main, I'm just getting some teachables I want unlocked first. Doc is next, then Pig. I have Myers resting at Level 15 until I get the teachable unlocked so I can see how many he can RNG in the bloodweb.
I thought about Hag, but I think I am going to skip Ruin and her teachables for now. Unless the survivors are brain dead, the totems won't last long anyway. Nurse's teachables are a possibility, though.
But unless a Daily is easily doable for the extra BP, I'm just using Bubba to dump BP into bloodwebs to get teachables for now (unless I am lucky enough that Doc or Pig manage to get BBQ at some point).
I play about five matches a night with Bubba (but don't play every night), so it takes me roughly a week to get teachables unlocked on each Killer. Could be worse.
-
Would be nice since only Fog Whisperers can hold them, and some of the Fog Whisperers I would not touch even if Behavior paid me. I absolutely refuse to give them attention. Did that in the past, saw how they were, and they aren't deserving of my patronage. Not even for something like this.

EZ fix: ALL attacks will now count towards MoM.
Expect that real soon
@Condorloco_26, sadly, that thought crossed my mind earlier today. The sense of balance for DbD seems to mirror the sense of balance I suffered in Overwatch for three years. Which is why I finally left that damned game. I can't fathom myself tolerating the same here in DbD for that amount of time.
Needless to say, I've started "game shopping," once again.
-
@Master I plan to check back in when dedicated servers one day go live, myself, just to see what is what.
In the meantime, though, I'm unfortunately with the OP. It isn't for any one, specific reason, just a combination of them. The Devs have a lot of work to do, and "trying" isn't cutting it. They have to absolutely get them done. Otherwise, Dedicated Servers aren't going to save the game if many of the same bugs and imbalances are still present. They'll, maybe, just help with lag and DCs.
I still plan to keep an eye on DbD between now and summer. But for now, I have less frustrating games to play.
-
@Mushwin said:
They wont react, they will say goodbye and goodluck. Yes the game have problems, but are you are actually aware of how much time, effort etc goes into a game? the devs are trying, this game is wayyyy popular despite people moaning about it
The game might be "popular," but it is also bleeding players. Even the release of Ash today only saw a 24-hour peak login of slightly over 22k players for PC according to SteamCharts. Plague DLC didn't fair much better.
There's definitely something seriously wrong when a full Chapter release, and then the release of Ash, both fail to jump the player base numbers even temporarily.
That means many players are leaving who likely never visit the forums and who don't post good-bye threads. And it also means that those players are not returning for the latest DLCs.
-
Under the emblem changes, it's easier to de-pip or safety pip than to pip, now. Especially in the upper ranks.
This is what happens when people want Rank to equate more to skill. Let's be honest, for too long Rank basically meant one put a lot of time into DbD. Play enough hours, and you'd rank up eventually.
The problem with any type of "skill based" rank system is that a minority of the player base will be in the top ranks. This is true of every such system, whether it's in Overwatch, Paladins, LoL, or wherever. A majority of the player base actually hovers, on average, in the upper-low ranks to the mid middle-ranks.
Now, granted, this new emblem scoring system still needs a lot of work. But if the Devs are aiming for rank to be more dependent on player skill, then the Red Ranks are always going to have longer queues. It's inevitable under such a system. Even in the other games I mentioned, if you're in the upper ranks, you are very slow getting matches. The player-pool is limited. Then again, those game studios were wise enough not to make Ranked their only mode. There's a reason they all have a Quick Play mode as well.

@LaughingFox said:
I agree though, Laurie definitely looks older in DBD, but I think that's more because they didn't have Jamie Lee Curtis's permission to use her likeness, so they had to change the model up a bit.
Oh, I would put money on that being the case.
-
@LaughingFox: Thanks. I don't play Survivor and don't play Laurie, so wasn't sure about her outfits in the game. That's why I guessed the original or H20 era (21-41 years old for Michael).
Unfortunately, I erred on the side of H20 because her model certainly doesn't look 17-years-old in the game. I can buy 37-years old, but looking at the model, I have a hard time seeing 17-years-old.
-
Well, considering he has the newer looking mask of the original film series, as opposed to the aged mask of the 2018 soft-reboot film, he should be somewhere between 21 to 41 years old.
Michael was six when he committed the murders, and escaped from Smith's Grove and returned to Haddonfield fifteen years later. Then, there were the H20 and Resurrection films, which continued him and Laurie 20 years later.
I'd say the Entity took him and Laurie from the Halloween H20 and Halloween Resurrection era, when she was 37 and he was 41.
Neither of them are from the 2018 film soft-reboot era, where Laurie was 57 and Michael 61. Even Laurie's in-game model doesn't match that. But she does fit the H20 era.
All that aside, he was licensed and added to the game in October 2016. The soft-reboot was a 2018 film. The Laurie and Michael in DbD have zero relation to the 2018 film reality. The story they're connected to ended with Halloween: Resurrection. So, he isn't that old.
(Note: There were more planned sequels for the Halloween H20 era, but Resurrection did so poorly that the sequels were cancelled and the H20 era abandoned, and the license was eventually granted to Rob Zombie, instead).
-
@Dreamnomad He was showcased at PAX, which ended before April Fool's Day. The announcement of Ash wasn't even timed as a prank.
-
I thought this new pipping system and matchmaker yo-yo reverts were the jokes. You mean, they aren't? :)
-
I don't even care about rank and pipping, and only play for bloodpoints to level up bloodwebs, and even I think this new emblem system is poorly conceived.
In a game designed around building out your four Perks, two add-ons, and offerings, forcing a specific type of game play style flies in the face of their core "loadout building" design. It's like they designed one type of game, and three years later want it to be something else. Unfvortunately, unless they do a complete overhaul from the ground-up, what you have is a conflict of versions.
-
It's part of the game. When, or if, Teachables appear on another's bloodweb is completely RNG. Sometimes you will spend millions and millions of bloodpoints on a single bloodweb and still not see the Teachable you need.
Honestly, it's the most asinine "build" system I've ever seen in an online game.
-
No. I've decided to stop spending on DbD until they actually fix the glaring issues.

Cool, you can totally see my playstyle. Your math is amazing btw. So you are Rank 5 or Rank 13?
And no, the Pipping System is not perfect when High Rank players dont find any games. This should not happen at all.
High ranked players having extremely long queue times is not abnormal in a ranking system. If the ranking system works and is actually predicated upon skill level, the highest ranks are a minority of the player base. This is true in Overwatch, Paladins, and other games as well. A majority of the playerbase hovers arounnd the upper-end of the low ranks, and low-mid ranks.
The issue in DbD for too long was that play-time also equaled rank. It was no secret that those who played the game religiously were eventually going to be in the red ranks, it was just a matter of time.
Now, this new emblem system still needs a lot of work, but the fact that they seem to want to head in a skill equals rank direction means that lobby times in the red ranks will be long. As I said, they're long in a game like Overwatch, which has a hell of a lot more players than DbD. I don't want to imagine what they'll be like here in the long-term.
But if they're going with rank is achieved by skill, then the minority will be in Red Ranks, and the queue times will be long. There is no getting around that if they're going for more of a skill-based system.
-
Ungh. I'd rather keep the with 2018 soft reboot concept. No Thorn, no demon, nothing like that. The original sequels just went off the rails with that idiocy.
-
Nerf Infectious Disconnect!!! The Perk is OP!
-
@Master, Yeah, as various threads have displayed, it isn't the same for everyone.
-
The problem is, they are trying to do this whole MM thing fast. Too fast. It's why they screwed the pooch so hard and keep bouncing back and forth between old a new like a lover that can't decide between their Ex and a new relationship.
-
This whole thing is becoming the Highlander 2 or Highlander: The Source of online PvP gaming. After a while, you just move forward and pretend it never existed. It's a shame.
-
@Carpemortum: Totally agree. As far as BP, as a killer, I try to get about 15k base, which ends up a little more depending upon add-ons and if I'm running BBQ. I still have Killers to level up for Teachable, and I don't play everyday nor pound myself to be the best. Getting about 15k minimum a match is doable just playing relaxed. And with BBQ and such, I usually net about 23k-28k.
I figured out, with only a handful of matches at a time, and not playing every night, I'll average 10-14 days per Killer to level 40.
Oh, I know . . . some will look at my BP goals and laugh and tell me to git gud and all that jazz. But the thing is: I'm just playing for fun and relaxation. I'm not playing to git gud. I have other games for that when I'm in the mood, like Overwatch. Dead by Daylight just isn't that type of game for me.
-
@Carpemortum: But let me ask this: What's the point of ranking up?
I've played several games with a rank system, the most recent two being Overwatch and Paladins.
In Overwatch, victory leads to SR gain which leads to ranking up. Additionally, you get Competitive Points for each victory toward purchasing Golden Weapon cosmetics for the Heroes.
In Paladins, there are skins and other rewards for playing Ranked and achieving certain ranks in the season.
Here? You rank up just to get longer lobbies and sweatier games.
Me? Screw rank. I'm still gray ranks, and I'm happy with that. All I want is BP at the end of a match. Getting Pips does absolutely nothing for me. No cosmetic rewards. No Perk rewards. No add-on or item rewards. Nothing. The only true reward in the game is BP for the bloodweb. Which means I get to play for fun and relax, since I'm getting BP either way.
I did ranked in Overwatch and Paladins in the past. I walked away from that mode of play over a year ago. I realized that worrying so much about rank in a video game, unless you actually have a chance to go Pro and make a living at the game, is just a useless and unhealthy place to be mentally. And I have better things to do with my time. Video games should be something fun to do. Yeah, we can be competitive and still have fun. But the way people worry about their ranks in certain games, you'd think it actually affected their lives and incomes.
-
@TheBean: Now, I personally don't know if there are cheaters in DbD, so my response isn't about the number of possible cheaters or such.
However, EAC isn't that hard to bypass anyway. Heck, Apex Legends is a prime example of that. Even before Apex, though, I saw EAC here in DbD, in the Hi-Rez games, and other places, and I just shook my head.
-
Just the certain horror elements, honestly. I remember the pre-launch trailers for DbD back in 2016. It got my attention. Then I learned it was just a hide-and-seek game with no real way to fight back against the killers, and I stopped paying attention. I bought Overwatch in May 2016 and played that with Friends & Family, instead.
Fast forward to the Steam Summer Sale for last summer, and I bought DbD purely for the licensed killer elements. If not for Michael Myers being in the game, I doubt I would have bought it at all, to be totally honest.
-
It isn't fine. My Killer lobbies on PC are back to Lobby Simulator since they (again) reverted back to the old MM.
It most definitely needs a lot more work and adjustments.
And rest assured, it will be changed again. They rolled back to the old MM as a temporary measure, and stated so on Twitter. The new MM is going to become the permanent version once they get their algorithms figured out.
-
@pemberley: I mean, that's how I view it. It only works, maybe, if DbD isn't your primary game where ranking-up matters.
For me, it isn't. It's one of my unwinding and relaxation games. I've been a horror fan since I was a kid in the late 1970s (I was born in '72). I grew-up on it. My dad did special effects. As an author, I've made part of my living in horror (though I write in several genres). In the table-top game industry when I was part of it (I retired from it summer 2018), I worked on Evil Dead and Friday the 13th licenses years ago.
So, I just look at DbD as something fun. I get to be the killer in a slasher film vignette. And often in the slasher genre, the killer just gets his ass kicked in the end.

if they do this, you can be assured of less then 10k players a day by that time. People are leaving this game.
@SmokePotion: I know. Fortunately, I also have Overwatch, WoW, Paladins, Realm Royale, and Apex Legends on my computer for online gaming. So, I have options to continue with once Behavior finishes letting DbD die on the hook. Even more to that point, I can at least play them with Friends & Family. They play those games, but won't touch Behavior and DbD.

Improving the gameplay? I'd like to think that raising the bar would do this as well. But from what I have witnessed thus far, I have seen a lot of players just no longer caring and not really playing anymore because they are good players who are being down ranked or not ranking up at all. Anyways, whether you believe it's about ranking up or not, the matchmaking and the frequency of people ranking up are related and affect each other.
And yes, when it comes to dc's from either a teammate or the killer early in the game, it would be nice if there was a compensation for the players remaining. However, I am sure the penalty of taking away the ability to rank up(at least in the high ranks) when someone dc's is to discourage rage quitting. Because now when you do dc(or even suicide on your first hook), you are now causing everyone in the match to suffer rank wise.
Random players do not usually care if their DC causes someone else to de-pip or not pip at all. In a SWF, that might be a different story. But if Behavior thought this new emblem system would prevent randoms from DCing due to some online gaming altruism toward their fellow randoms, then Behavior is as naive about the average online gamer than even Blizzard was concerning things in Overwatch. And that's saying something.

So you never try to win. Got it.
See, that depends on how to define a win. For me, it is just getting enough bloodpoints. And the number of bloodpoints as a goal is going to vary between players, and lead to debates that just go around in circles (and insults at some point), so I'm not going to say what amount of bloodpoints I consider a good match for me.
I don't care if I 4k. I don't care if I pip. Rank is something I could not possibly care any less about. If I want to play for rank ever again (fun tip: I don't), I'll go back to Competitive Overwatch. I gave-up on that style of play over a year ago, and have no desire to ever sweat about rank again. But if I did, then I sure as hell wouldn't waste my time on this sorry excuse for a rank system.
I play Killer in DbD to play in a little horror film vignette. Me versus four survivors. I'm nearing 50 years old, my days of sweating in a video game are in the past. I play for fun and use DbD to relax. If I want to go full-tilt PvP on a given night, then I'll log into Overwatch or Apex Legends that night. I'm not going to use a 1v4 asymmetrical hide-and-seek game for that.
As far as survivors escaping, I also look at it this way: Myers got absolutely bullied by Jodie, her daughter, and granddaughter in Halloween (2018). Poor guy got one kill on those four, on the daughter's husband, and three survivors escaped in a bad way. Freddy never gets all his planned kills in the end. Jason is beat every film. If my survivors escape that trial, oh well. That's what ultimately happens in the Slasher genre.

Well, to be honest, Cote did previously work for EA. And DbD certainly appears to be run under the EA method: fixing the game is secondary to milking the players in the cash shop and with DLCs.

Yea, you're right. They should wait longer before they try to change things that are obviously broken. And once you've backed down from the obviously broken thing, don't bother to try to find another solution until at least a couple months have past. Close, but no cigar. So what I'll do is cut-and-paste what I said several posts above:
The sad thing is that I'm not uneducated in game design. I've never seen a developer handle a matchmaker like this before. You put the new system out, see where the issues are (since there are bound to be some), make the coding fixes on the back-end non-live copy, patch it into live, watch the results, rinse and repeat until you get it where it needs to be.
What you don't do is what they're doing, and keep going back-and-forth between old and new every day or other day. This is making me wonder if they even have a workable back-end copy in the first place, or if someone was questionable enough to not maintain one and just sent things live.

New matchmaking was terrible. I couldn't play more then 2 matches per hour because I got infinite loading screens, killers dc from lobbies, long queues.
Now I can find a killer like instantly without any issues.
Devs should test new stuff on the test servers, they shouldn't use real players who paid the money as genie pigs since this is realised game, not beta.
Yeah, but see, I'm a gray rank Killer. And this "old" matchmaking has always resulted in playing Lobby Simulator at my rank. That's why I'm gray rank. I bought DbD and all the DLCs last summer, tried to play (I don't play every night, and can go a week or more playing one of my other games), got infinite lobby queues and averaged one or two matches an hour.
Now, since I was new and learning, we can safely guess that I wouldn't pip most matches yet. So, with queue times so damned long, on top of the Pip and BP grind while learning, I walked away from the game shortly after Spirit came out.
Fast-forward and the new MM comes in. I decide to give the game another shot. Hey! I'm getting matches even as late as 1:30am or 2:30am within a couple of minutes. Sure, my survivors are Green rank, but I handle it just fine. Win some, lose some.
Then back to old matchmaker and Lobby Simulator. Nope, back to new MM. Nah, just kidding, back to Lobby Simulator.
This is so unprofessional, I don't have words to truly describe the fiasco.
Maybe . . . maybe I could get matches as a survivor, but to be honest, I don't enjoy survivor and am not going to be forced to play that side damned near exclusively to actually get queues under this "old" system just because Behavior is unable to make up their minds and get their crap together.
Them being at PAX to market DbD is a joke. Them releasing the Ash DLC is a joke. The game is in a sorry state right now, and they can't even be consistent with a matchmaker version on top of that. If anything, people need to be warned away from DbD and from giving Behavior a penny at this stage.
I looked up Cote, and noticed that he once worked for EA before coming to Behavior. At this point, it's starting to show in the leadership. It's like Behavior is using the EA model of fixing the game being completely secondary to just milking the player base and getting them to open their wallets in the cash shop.
And sorry, Behavior, but if I'm in the market for an "EA game," there is Apex Legends, which actually works.
-
@Boss Well, it's certainly an idea. And they need to do something, because this back-and-forth has given many of us both whiplash and exhaustion.
-

@Boss They don't even necessarily need to use PTB. And if there aren't enough people logging into the test server anyway, it wouldn't yield the needed data.
What they should have done is what I stated in the post right above your reply.

Matchmaking has been fine for me so I can't relate to the problems you're having but many other people here are having the same thing happening to them. Unfortunately all I'm getting is DC after DC after DC. Every survivor game I've played today has had 1 DC. 3/4 of every killer game I've played today has had 1 DC. I'm sad to hear you are leaving but it is what it is I guess. Good luck and maybe one day you can come back when the devs decide on which matchmaking they want to use
Indeed. It isn't like I will never check back on the game, but right now this is an exercise in frustration. It's like they have dissociative identity disorder when it comes to their matchmaking decisions.

The new system was flawed but FAR more consistent across the board.
@Carpemortum: I'm out. I'm done. This bullshit is beyond amateurish. I just made a thread about the Yo-Yo matchmaking reverts. But I have better things to do with my time than play Lobby Simulator one day, be able to play matches the next, then-- nope-- back to Lobby Simulator out of the blue because they can't get their crap together like a team of professionals.
In 20 years of playing only online games, I have never seen a fiasco like this one.

I don't know. My concern is that it'll be waiting until the mid-chapter patch, which is still several weeks out. Hope I'm wrong, though.

Ahhh okay. I wasnt sure how that went with the different movies and tv show and everything.
It's just been my speculation since we heard survivor only and bruce seems to look like bruce haha.
So he does at least own his own likeness, but they had to get the license from X person for the name and franchise connection? Good to know.
Correct. An Actor typically always owns their own likeness, though the production studio for the TV or film has rights to it per the original work contract for certain things: Marketing, repeats, et cetera. For licensed products like Toys, Video Games, et cetera, one typically needs the actor to sign on.
Now, there are exceptions to that. Star Wars, for example, was always able to use the Actor's likenesses in toys and so forth that they then licensed. Marvel Studios is the same with their actors. If you do a Marvel film, Marvel owns the rights to your likeness and is able to automatically license it out to tie-in toylines and the such.
For a vast, vast majority of TV shows and films, though, that is not the case.
Now, I worked on the Evil Dead license a while ago. Back then, you went through Raimi's company for the franchise rights, and then Bruce's people for his likeness. Given that Campbell and Raimi are so close personally (they were basically childhood friends that made Evil Dead together and launched each other), it's quite possible that today things have been restructured somewhat between the two of them so that they own Evil Dead together. That, for 2019, I cannot speak of with any authority.

Yeah, after the initial licensing fee, which can vary wildly (for example, under George Lucas, just the upfront fee for a Star Wars license was a minimum of $1 million), royalty rates range from 18% to 27% of gross sales (not Net Sales), and you can negotiate from there. I've rarely had any go below 23% without a lot of struggle.
Note: Star Wars was another exception to the rule, and under George Lucas the royalty rate was typically a non-negotiable 50% of gross sales.
When we did Highlander, for example, they wanted $22,000 up front, and 25% royalty. We eventually got them down to 21%, but it took a lot of talking.
Keep in mind, too, that is usually Gross Sales, as I said. So, if Valve takes a % for selling on Steam, that is not calculated in royalties owed. They're paying on the actual MSRP value.
Sometimes, too, the licensing fee can be divided into an annual installment plan over the first year. Naturally, Star Wars wouldn't do that, but Highlander offered to break that $22k down into four payments,

Depends on who has the license rights for Ash, but probably not.
If Bruce himself owns them (which I believe is the case as he did his own voice it seems and we got just him, no killer or map from the movies), he may have came to an agreement with them. However if its whoever owns the franchise rights (which may be Bruce, idk) they may have required cash only store use.
I worked on Evil Dead licenses back in the table-top game industry. Bruce, himself, doesn't own Evil Dead or Ash, just the rights to his own likeness. For Evil Dead itself, at least back then, you went through Sam Raimi's people.

I doubt it. They get a percentage of all sales revenue for Ash, and being able to purchase him without cash is a huge no-no on a licensee, unless the licensee personally pays the the royalties out of their pocket.
For example, let's say Ash is $4 and the holders get $2 of that (normal rates on a license average around 23% not 50%, but I want to keep the math simple here). If they negotiated for Shard sales, and then sold 10,000 units with the shards, they would usually still have to pay the $20,000 in royalties, but out of their own pockets.
