  • Feng is the worse of all. Bloody anime ######### :)

  • @Orange_Lady I keep saying this every now and then: before you start a new discussion DO_A_SEARCH. So many other people posted about this topic (along with a number of other popular ones) , but of course no one bothers to read what others have to say about it, everyone just want to be heard, making the forum a mess.

  • So refreshing to see a post that's not about __ or the "broken _____ mechanic" or ____. Thank you.

  • I like shuffling things a bit. And I don't believe for a moment that every game was a facecamping session.

DS is a wasted perk slot. Competent killers deal with it. Incompetent killers complain about it to no end, but they can't be helped anyway, they are doomed to wait for an eternity for dev Mum and dev Dad to solve their problems.

So what you're saying basically is that a get-out-of-jail-free card is okay? Interesting. It's basically the equivalent of the killer being able to turn a generator off that had been fully repaired.

No it's not. Tell you how it is:
    1/ pick up
    2/ DS
3/ within ten seconds, down them again
    4/ hook
    5/ DC

Personally, I'm much more worried about Dark Sense, Iron Will and Urban Evasion; survivor perks that are actually worth a #########.

  • The mini map is used in the killer and survivor turtorial.
I want that map as killer!

DBD 2 is a joke. You really don't make 2 games when you update one every few months. This game will improve over time.

I agree. This game keeps improving over time. Why would anyone want a new one, when new content regularly comes out?

  • @The_Crusader , have you ever stabbed someone? (If not, you should try it, feels great.) The thing is, it really is hard to turn when someone suddenly changes direction. But not if you expect it. Quite realistic actually.

  • It's a lovely mess. You can get anything from grandmaster survivors and killers to confused casuals. I actually like it.

I said it before. The hatch rewards the losing team with a free undeserved win.
There is no such mechanism for killers which could get a free kill if they screw up. Why have it for survivors?
This is the only game that rewards little timmy for failing.
How is three people getting sacrificed and one escaping a "win"? It's a win for the killer, not the survivors.
And I assume you know those games when three guys are playing terribly, and one basically carries the others on his shoulders, doing two-three gens on his own. How about this guy escaping through the Hatch?
I agree hatch should be tweaked a little (god, at least there should not be a BP reward for it), but its job is to make hunting the last one down more difficult.
  • There are other discussions for this question. But it's Blood Warden and Urban Evasion.
  • I don't use them anymore. Not as bad actually. Gotta hook quick, that slows gen progress more than Ruin.
Funny how the one I still use sometimes is TOTH, without any other. The extra BP is welcome, and since survivors are going to be adamant to cleanse it, the sound notification is bound to happen - useful when I'm feeling lonely.

@ConsoleNurse for every 1000 time someone cries "CHEATER", there's about 1 real cheater, the rest is just someone getting mad over losing. Understandable, but you should think carefully before you decide someone is cheating, especially if you don't have proof (e.g. footage).

I looped him 3 minutes, then my team did all gens.My character stopped and i was on the hook explain please

Oh not saying it's impossible, only that it's VERY rare, at least on PC. Not sure about console, but from what I hear both Xbox and PS have more problems than PC.

Good thing about cheaters that they get bored fast (at least I think they do). So even the few that don't get caught and banned is off the game pretty fast.

    Tunneling is really killers fault?
Most of the time I get tunneled its survivor fault unhooking me 2s after being hooked or in front of the killer.

So its actually his fault or greedy survivor fault? I blame more my team being hungry for bp

If the survivor unhooks after 5 seconds it's the survivors fault.

If the killer circles the hook within a small radius, just patrolling and waiting for the unhook it's the killer's fault. Thats basically every Trapper ever.

I mean if you find 2 people together on a gen and one has been hooked and one hasn't yeah you can go for the one that has been hooked. That doesn't bother me.

I'm specifically talking about killers who just wait near the hook so they can tunnel. Or they'll start another chase nearby and immediately cut it off to go for the unhooked guy. Meanwhile they're applying no pressure to anyone else.

I don't condone disconnecting but its easy to see why people do it when for the crime of being caught first they're now going to depip anyway and get no points as they wont be getting any gens or unhooks done. They realize their game is over and its quicker to DC and move on than try to escape a few times.

Then you're talking about camping. If killer just won't leave the hook area, then that's what it's called. A cheap tactic and only necessary at endgame, and only if the killer already screwed up.
What I often do is: hook, if nobody is around, do a quick gen patrol, and by the time it's done there's usually someone trying to unhook. Then it's time to go back and hunt down the one who just got unhooked. Repeat one more time.

Unless you are a god with Nurse (or possibly Billy, maybe Huntress), you really want one guy out of the game when there are at least 3-4 gens left to do. Then you're in a sweet spot. That's why I say you should be more accurate about your phrasing: you say tunneling but what you describe is not tunneling, it's camping. Big difference.

It looks like I don't need to :)

Btw just yesterday I had this beautiful tunneling game: 4K with Wraith on Azarov's... such a joy. And I got promptly scolded and lectured by a bitter victim, who told me "it's people like you who ruin this game"
I wish people understood how much more fun it is to play as competitively and ruthlessly as possible... I certainly don't blame the killer if I'm tunneled.

It does ruin the game for other people. It's such a lame playstyle. Its why trapper is boring as hell to play against because its the only way they play.

Its not effective at high ranks either because you sacrifice map pressure for it.

The only really lame playstyle is facecamping. Other than that, I still don't understand why people way a competitive game when they don't want to play competitively. There's place for the occasional giving hatch, farming or just having fun, but most games should not be like that. You say boring... well, trying to "play nice" is more boring than anything I can think of.

Today I plated a game of Billy and had this trio who were obviously speedhacking. They were faster than me (and no not sprintburst temporary faster). They fixed a generator right there as I was trying to hit them off of it and if I gave chase they would run around in circles gaining ground every step of the way. So fast were they when running in circles that they could circle me faster than I could turn with the mouse. When chasing after them they inm just around ojne thing over and over againthey would constantly gain ground I chased 1 for 2 minutes and never gained any ground. I got 2 of them eventually but only because of their cockiness. Their speed hacking was also inconsistently faster at times, I came around the corner on a long wall after tricking with mind games and was just a little behind her as we rounded the corner however she was halfway down the length of it as I was only about a little out of lunge distance so I tricked her again. Rounded the corner again and she was half way down it again. This is about 7 seconds after tricking her the first time. All this time her friends are following and teabaging. Is there any way to counter this or is it just a loss.

Simple counter: RECORD YOUR GAME and report them. I believe this kind of thing gets them banned quick, but you need proof.

  • Oh I never noticed. Thanks, I'll make sure to exploit the hell outta this :)
Btw, ther eare other problems with basement: often I go down there, loot the item from chest, get out, then 10 minutes later "Basement time 1249 BP". Not complaining, but funny.

  • I can't see why you guys keep saying it's "borderline cheating" or "an exploit". It actually fits the game setup: killer is faster but also bigger and more clumsy. But what's more important is gameplay. I understand doing it for ages is boring, I hate doing it as much as the next killer, but question is, if you take it away, what other options do survivors have? Stealth, yea, but you can't stay hidden all the time with generators being visible, plus killer detection perks.
Before the latest update it was more of a pain, but currently, with the increased healing time, better totem placements and some reduced map sizes, it's getting a little better for killers. Still harder than survivor, but not by a lot, and that's the way it should be.
And don't forget, you have literally dozens of ways to bypass this mechanic completely or partially. Clown, Spirit, Trapper, Hag, and other killers (even Wraith!) have potential tools in their main power to counter/bypass it. And then there are perks too.
Really buffles me, because even some players above whose opinion I value say it's an exploit. Can you guys answer me (and @Clauds ), if it's not an option anymore, what other (effective) tools do survivors have at their disposal?

  • @Clauds no, you're right: pallet looping is not "toxic" or whatever. There are ways to counter it, and more importantly, survivors do need some tools to escape or at least drag on a chase, since very often there are no options to lose sight and hide again. I'm quite killer biased, but the complaints about pallet looping are unfounded. The only valid argument about it that it is boring, but killers can change their gamestyle to sex it up. I personally have no problem with it in general.

can't have a discussion without being antagonistic.
You are right about that. I try to suppress my inner troll and be reasonable: you rejoiced over the assumed "tanking" and "death" of this game (a game many of us love), with a very brief explanation. Camping, lag are not that frequent and I have no idea what "overall garbage gameplay" is supposed to mean. Balancewise it's in a very good spot now, and most importantly: playing survivor is not in any sense a "guaranteed loss": if you know what you're doing, you'll pip up 80% of the time. Yeah you'll die sometimes. That does not equal losing.

And btw, if you have a problem with being antagonistic, maybe you should not start a thread by expressing your schadenfreude over a game's "death". Not that it's happening.
  • @MakoaKeo preferences I guess: I have no problem with slugging (or the fourth escaping), but I get it that you do. Maybe if it required a little longer to jump in, or it would have to be opened, say, 10 seconds it could help. Not sure.
But I'm sure as hell if the second to last DC-s, that's 99.99999% of the time is an underhanded move to give the last one the hatch. "Not every DC is on purpose" you say, yeah sure but if it happens so conveniently? What are the chances?

  • Like @sixty4half @powerbats @SwampGas13 and many others said: 3K is enough, and the hatch is far from being a free escape.
There are only two real problems. One, when gates are open but the last survivor wants that 2000 so bad that they waste your time looking for it. Second is when the next to last DC-s so the last can get it.
For the first I'd suggest hatch should give 1000 BP PENALTY instead of 2000 bonus. After all, while not "free", it's often an easier escape.
For DC: I think if two are dead and the third disconnects, hatch should not spawn at all. Suiciding to give hatch is fine, but dc? That's a big no.

What if Tinkerer gave 0 TR for the rest of the match after all the gens are powered? What do you guys think?
When you say "All", I'm assuming that you mean that "Tinkerer will reduce your terror radius to 0 when all generators are completed for a infinite amount of time." I'm kinda iffy since some killers like Nurse, Billy, Spirit, and etc can thrive without any counterplay and while some killers wouldn't be able to make use of the 0 TR. I don't think your idea is bad but I feel like we can take a different direction with the perk. In my opinion, I just feel like tinkerer needs a secondary effect overall. What it does now is underwhelming and isn't practical to use since most killers cannot make use from it. So why not make the perk decrease your terror radius every time a generator is completed while keeping the current effect?

Tinkerer: Your senses allow you to sneak up to your prey. When a generator is repaired to 75%, see a visual cue in that generator's location while your terror radius is reduced to 0 for 10/15/20 seconds. Every generator will permanently reduce your terror radius by 1/2/3 meters.
That would be good change. Killer would have an actual chance to make it there.
75% would help survivors too a little. You'd know EXACTLY when Tinkerer kicks in: the moment the fourth piston starts moving, unlike now, you have to just guess.

Seriously... took a trip to visit some family and really looked forward to getting back to play this game, despite the three days prior to leaving for the trip being absolutely trash as far as the game was concerned.

now I'm back, played 5 rounds and every single one of them plagued by the same issues that ruined the last three days of play that I had.

Campers, DC's, Lag, and all around garbage gameplay.

I don't feel like sitting here twiddling my thumbs for 15 minutes waiting for a lobby to fill so I can play Killer, (which is so easy that I normally don't even have to try and still get 2-3 kills minimum)

and playing as survivor is a guaranteed loss for any number of reasons, regardless of perks, items, or offerings.

it's quite ridiculous... I get it, I do... survivor isn't supposed to be easy... but when survivor is impossible for 8/10-9/10 games and killer is so easy that it seems to be all anyone wants to play... you've got a problem. a serious one.

now queue the typical mind-numbing rhetoric and "git gud's"
Thanks for sharing, bye, don't let the door hit ya :)
  • @ClementineS4 here's how I see it: your success is shown in your pips, not merely surviving. I die in about two thirds of my games, yet get +1 or +2 pips most of the time.
I mentioned this in another discussion, but gonna repeat anyway: it's a misunderstanding to think that you failed as a survivor if you died. You did fail if you died when there were still 3-4-5 gens left to do, or if you got your buddies killed by unsafe rescues. But dying itself makes little difference. Much of the flame between survivor and killer mains does not come from real imbalance (this game will never be perfectly "balanced", there are just too many different killers, abilities, a variety of builds). It comes from FRUSTRATION. That's something a lot of people just cannot take. But the ones who can are having a lot of fun, regardless of their survive/kill ratio.

I don't want to lecture you or be condescending, so I'm not saying "git gud". I'll just say: get tough. Learn to take some of those horrible defeats and move on to the next game. You will succeed on the occasion, and some other times you will just get demolished. In which case, just have a good laugh about it.
  • Fooled me there, seeing the title I was ready to throw some condescending remarks on how tunneling is a great way to go.
It looks like I don't need to :)

  • Your first hit should be free most of the time, just bodyblock their way to window or safe pallet. The second is more tricky, Wraith is not the best anti looper. I would recommend Endurance + Spirit Fury combo, and Bamboozle is great too. Fourth can be Ruin I guess but if you use cloaked speed addons, MYC, BBQ or Pop Goes the Weasel can be better.
Don't be afraid to soft camp. Check on the few closest gens after a hook, but return after a short while, somebody will undoubtedly attempt to unhook. Stay cloaked while they unhook, so no chance for BT to kick in, and tunnel the one just unhooked. Wraith is not very strong, you need at least one of them out of the game early. Tunnel hard, tunnel early.
Also, the best addons for general use are the ones reducing reappearance time (I mean there are purple ones of course but I don't like relying on very rare addons).
  • I don't get the "Save Editor" part.
But stories like this always make me smirk :)

  • Yep. With Deviousness, you get 2200 BP for every Surprise Attack. I love this addon. Particulary good on The Game. I love that you can make a TR build on Wraith, plus, it's great for farming. Used a lot during this Blood Rush.

  • Hate any map that's not The Game.

  • Not really toxic, but cracked me up: was giong with Clown, running STBFL, and got my 3K with the help of BW. Endgame chat:
    "Another crutch killer perk"
I thought he meant BW, but no...
    "Insta attack cooldown"

Now I know STBFL is a crutch perk.

  • Yea it has been fixed some time ago. You see a lost pip in the endgame screen, but when you return to menu you can check it's not lost. And you get to keep you BP.

  • @LeyDud prepare for the shitstorm my friend :)
  • Some basic items are cheap though: plaid shirt for Kate was 1800 Iridescent I think, and it looks hot!

Other than those, you don't HAVE TO buy these, only if you want to support BHVR. Or if you're rich and don't know what to do with your money (in this case, contact me).
And "greed"... wow. Maybe bad pricing policy, I guess, but they try to run a business. You wouldn't expect them to continue giving new content, chapters, balancing and tweaks for the meager amount we all paid for the original game?

  • I usually use one killer (sometimes survivor), especially during extra BP events to prestige up and level up another, meaning when the other gets there, he/she will have an insane amount of moris, black wards, purple addons and so on. Candy shop :)

  • @Terrortot said:
I usually save my moris for a one day mori spree.

What a lovely idea. I think I'll do that - got more than a hundred ebony and dozens of ivories I think.

  • @Tsulan , aside from endgame being dragged on for too long (if no hatch, who would dare doing gens against a Billy?), hatch is there to make a 4K significantly harder than a 3K. You talk about "deserving" that last kill, but there is no such thing. The last guy may have been doing nothing the whole game, or could have carried his whole team on his back. It doesn't matter. You gotta do an extra effort to get that fourth (and yes, you need some luck too). And like others said, 3K is good enough.

On the other hand, a little playing around with hatch would be welcome. An offering like someone said above, to close it, or a new killer perk that spawns fake hatches.
  • Obviously the big challenge is to provide some advantage to solo survivors, in a way that does not strengthen swf groups.
So how about this: restrict one survivor perk slot for only one of the following perks: Bond, Empathy, OoO, Kindred, Alert. You can't use any other perk for this slot. The other three are free to use for any perk. While still not balancing swf to randoms (that would be an unrealistic goal anyway), it would bring them closer without radically buffing/nerfing anything, since swf don't benefit much from these.
Another thing to do has been said my many: just hide killer loadout until the game is finished. This is actually long overdue.

And just a small reminder for those who have trouble reading: OP specifically asked ONLY for ideas in this discussion. Discuss details in other threads.

But then again, there are survivors using Clear Reagent.

  • Lol you guys are so dramatic. "Dishonest and pitiful beings", this cracked me up.

There are still some trends and consideration we can make and questions we can ask, like:

1- Are killers usually too weak when they are first released? Given the amount of improvements needed - look how many time the wraith have been buffed in 2 years - it looks like something is wrong with that.

2- Was the game generically too unbalanced towards survs 2 years ago?

3- while the surv nerf\buff is "gently" leaning downward (currently around-15) the killer nerf\buff ratio looks like growing exponentially: what does that mean?

4- Is the surv playerbase getting better faster than the killer playerbase so a constant nerf to surv capabilities is and will always be needed?

5- In this framework, it appears like it will never be possible to touch some big issues like: hitbox, lag, vacuums and so; since those are generically killer advantages they would heavily impact the game with the inevitable following need for many more survivors nerfs to balance back.

    1. Simple said, yes.
    2. Again, yes and it still is.
    3. That means, Devs start to acknowledge the unbalance and work on it.
    4. No, because the survivor playerbase does not "get better faster" it s just a gamedesign flaw that makes survivor just easier to play with less skill. When the player are on the same skilllevel, the survivor will win with the killer getting 1K max.
    5. Since when are problems with hitboxes, vacuum and lag favoring the killer?? Hitboxes are in favor of the survivor, vaccum was fixed and lag always goes both ways.

Lag does tend to favor killer a little, since he is the host, but there's little to nothing the dev team can do aobut it.
I agree about the rest of the points.

I think there is an ages long misunderstanding between people who mostly play survivor and others who prefer killer. Many survivors tend to think they "lose" if they don't escape, while killers (not always, but usually) consider either a 3K or even a 2K with lots of hooks, won chases, successful use of abilities, etc a win. Now I'm somewhat killer biased, but even so I firmly believe that dying in a game is NOT a loss for a survivor at all, provided he/she did enough gens, saves, cleansing, or bought enough time for others in chases. The emblem system actually represents the performance of survivors quite well. Simply put, I'm on the opinion that pips show you whether you "won" or "lost", not BP or an escape.

My own experience is that I kept ranking up when I played survivor and even now I never get below rank 2, even though I'm not a great survivor (suck at looping). Whereas for killers it's a much steeper climb. Maybe others have different experiences, I'm not sure. But the point is, it's a horror game: if you're a survivor, dying is not an issue. You're supposed to die, that's your job. Just do it with style.

  • @AlphaJackson said:
If you want max salt, buy leatherface and face camp survivors. I once did that, just to ease off some steam. They were too altruistic and I ended killing all of them! Then they call me bad for killing them all even when I was face camping XD

Don't overdo it though. It happens to most of us: we fail miserably against an extremely annoying SWF group, get an overdose of teabagging and flashlight spamming and get in to "all-survivors-are-garbage-must-kill-them-all" mode... then whip out our purple addons, ebony mories and take it out on the next four, who might just happen to be completely decent folks. Then they turn salty and start hating all killers, start to play like #########... the cycle continues.
Usually you can tell early in the game what kind of survivors you're up against. I suggest you adjust your gamestyle accordingly.
