  • @KingB no it's not "balanced", whatever "balanced" means. Soloes have it rough, SWF have it easier. Yes, secondary objectives would be welcome. Yes, the game should somehow try to close the gap between solo and SWF.

But. None of this changes the fact that lobbydodging or DC-ing when facing SWF is a chickenshit thing to do.

Killer being able to kill? Go away with this nonsense!

We got the killer the survivor community asked for. Someone who gives the thrill of a chase without being an actual threat. Someone who can't even tunnel.

I hope survivor mains buy this chapter. Because I doubt that killers will.

    I will.

  • As a killer, if survivors can't blame me for their ping/latency anymore, does this mean survivors and killers will finally get along!?

I'm sure we'll all be one big happy family.

    "[BAD WORD]."

Yup, that's not toxicity; people are just being overly sensitive.

    @Orion
I know that everyone is different and stuff, but personally there's no way i can be bothered by people like that.
If someone tells me to get cancer:
Do i know that person? No
Do i care about that person's opinion? No
Will i get cancer just because that person wished it? Certainly not.
Summary: my life hasn't changed a bit and i'm still fine, probably even better because salty people amuse me.
Yeah, i will report that behaviour because not everyone takes that stuff in the same way and because no one should talk like that, but would be nice as well to not get affected by this kind of people.

It's probably hard to imagine but how do you think you'd feel like if you for example had a loved one that died to cancer? Or your own kid? Or someone that you're close to is currently fighting against cancer?

Just saying, just because it doesn't affect you (or the person that insults someone) doesn't mean it won't affect others. Insulting and wishing people cancer is probably one of the most disgraceful thing you can do. If anyone deserves cancer, it's probably those people that wish cancer upon others.

PiiFree and Vietfox yeah, you make good points. I'm very much used to say stuff to friends in RL like "cancer eat your guts out" or being told the same in the most friendly manner... I suppose it's partly a cultural thing. But I can see how this can hit hard if someone is unaccustomed to it. It's just... reporting or complaining about it feels so whiny. I know it's not but that's how it feels. I'm genuinely outraged too when #########'s thrown at newbies, but consider this: emotionally stable people will eventually get over it. The unstable ones, well, they can't be helped anyway.

Sometimes I wish all games, online forums etc allowed only real name registrations. That would definitely put an end to 90% of garbage behaviour.

at this point I'm stirring the pot, unfortunately, but how ironic is it that in a post about toxicity it takes 5 posts for someone to start throwing blame.

DBD was definitely survivor sided for a long time, but killers are probably in the best place they've ever been in (aside from freddy and legion) and yet the blame is still being thrown on survivors.

someone pointed out on a separate post about how they could look at the profile of a toxic survivor and see comments about them playing as a toxic killer too.

seems to me it's not really one side or the other, but rather it's predominately a set of toxic players who play both sides just as scummy. there are exceptions, of course, but that makes the most sense to me.

    Very accurate summary.

I'd add this however: anyone with more than 100-200 hours still unable to shrug off "toxic" comments should consider quitting.

Ok I get your opinion and yes we look at it completely differently, I want to eliminate something stupid while you're pretty relaxed and can take that 4k or leave it. But the mechanics of suggestion, do you think they are balanced and could work with the changes like Whispers etc. I get you don't really care about the scenario but would those changes be more fair?

I don't think there's a balance problem there at all. But even if I thought there were one, my main point about your suggestion is that adding a chest with a key may result in something like a "chest standoff", as someone said above.

Also, if we just accept that most of our opinions are moot and ignored we might as well not have a community to offer feedback, we might as well just sit back and accept what we get, never complain because we fall on deaf ears anyway right, it's not a great life to live.

Yeah don't want to hold you back or anything, I think devs occasionally look at these forums. I guess it's just that I'm one of the few people who think they did a very good job with changes after the Spirit came out. Self-recovery buff, healing speed nerf and many other tweaks were unexpected but moved the game into a right direction. Not an easy thing to do either: buff or nerf one side too much, and the game suffers.
If they're looking at changing the Hatch mechanic, I'm quite confident they're gonna do something unexpected, but something that works out nicely.
Either that, or I'm just too lazy to write my 6 pages essay about the necessary changes for Freddy.

Everyone hates the waiting game of who wins the hatch standoff,

Speak for yourself. Many of us just hit the survivor, get our 300 points and let him go. No poitn wasting time with hatch standoff.

Also, your proposed solution only prolongs the hide-and-seek endgame. As a survivor, I don't mind that part too much: crawling around the map avoiding the killer has a bit of excitement, but as killer it's quite boring. What you suggest would just double the time spent looking for the last guy.

There's only one change that should be done to the hatch: this crazy idea of giving 2000 extra BP for a hatch escape should be removed. It often makes survivors look for it even when gates are open, wasting the killer's time. Now that's a bad incentive. If anything, there should be a BP penalty for a hatch escape. After all, the survivor kinda takes the easy route out.

Ah yes, the quiet lonely search for the last Survivor who doesn't know where the Hatch is, I get those but they don't usually last that long. On large maps like Rotten Fields that can be a HUGE problem with this idea, perhaps every 15 seconds the Killer gets a location similar to the Doc's giving away their approximate spot? Or maybe that perk Spies From The Shadows is made base game at that point or Whispers, the Perks themselves would still exist but at this point it would just be something added to the Killer automatically. That way the Killer has help looking for that last little mouse scurrying about.

I think we look at this whole thing very differently. If the last survivor is uninjured, I have no problem with him having an easier time finding an alternate escape. I believe that sweet 4K is supposed to be significantly harder than a 3K. And I explained my view on hatch standoff above, though I understand not everyone sees it that way.
At any rate, discussions like this are probably moot. There are soooooooooo many of us players suggesting/asking/hysterically demanding changes to the game :) I don't suppose devs can even consider, let alone integrate most of these ideas, especially since they often conflict each other...

  • Oh man. Pretty much the same as when I do a 2K or 3K against a team that looks like a diehard SWF team, only to see the ones I tunneled to oblivion are rank 20-16...
I don't give a flying toss about "toxicity", but destroying newbies is not cool, and will harm us in the long run (I definitely plan to keep playing dbd for a few years to come... scaring new players off is not good).

I hope you offered a few words of encouragement to the poor fellow after game!

I feel like the killer should be rewarded for leaving though, something to entice the players to leave like extra bps

I was thinking more on the lines of the survivor getting bonus Lightbringer points when other survivors complete generators while you are on the hook. That way, you'll still have a great chance to pip (If your teammates do generators) while the killer gets his sacrifice.
They do though. Not exactly while on hook, but as survivor you get 5% to your Lightbringer emblem every time a gen is done, regardless whether you worked on it or not.

As for the original suggestion, some people will facecamp, no matter what. We can live with that. Also, don't forget that being hooked is not supposed to be a jolly experience. It sucks. Which is an important incentive to not getting caught.
  • I feel your pain man.
  • I disagree. It's not killer that got boring. It's playing survivor that became more intense.
I agree only with Nurse being too much. Wouldn't mind some nerfing. Even so, suiciding is a dumbass thing to do.
  • Only if we get Hillary as survivor. Would be very pleasing to chainsaw her.
  • I love it when it happens :) One of them, obviously the most experienced looper tries to bait me, I don't fall for it and go hunt down and hook another, and the whole sorry bunch disconnects.
A rapid win, that's how I see it. Although if it's only a trio, I usually let the unlucky solo who stays farm and eventually escape.
  • Pemanent Marker effect on survivors, visible to the killer.

  • @ConsoleNurse unfortunately you don't seem to be on PC, but if you were, you'd probably be the only person I facecamped. With glee.

Camping is a part of the game. Suck it up. Don't waste someone else's time only because you don't like their playstyle.

  • @aarongai you're right about mories not "balanced". One of the features of this game is that certain ultra rare addons and offerings can tip the balance strongly in favor of one party or the other. I actually don't like this about DBD (plenty of weaker killers are very addon dependent, and then there's also a number of quite powerful item+addon+offering combos on survivor side.

So, I understand your point, but there isn't really much to do about it, other then accepting that some trials are significantly more difficult than others. Survivors may complain a lot about moris and certain addons (Prayer Beads, 5 blinks, etc), and killers complain a lot about instaheals, and the general advantage of organized SWF groups.

I can suggest one thing to do if you're willing. Forget this pointless notion of "balance". This game is never going to be balanced. It would be impossible with so many killers, perks, items, and not least of all, maps that all require a hugely different playstyle. Just accept that sometimes you have easy matches, sometimes not so much. Variety is a good thing, and so is having a challenge every once in a while.

  • @The_Crusader said:
    George_Soros said:

@The_Crusader how do you define camping?

Staying close by the hook with no intention of leaving.

I'm only asking because 8 out of 10 is the direct opposite to what I experience as survivor. So... I kinda suspected that like many others, you consider "hooking - leaving the hook to look for survivors - returning to hook to prevent unhooking" camping. It's quite usual and it's completely ok to do this.

Facecamping is very rare, and it is a scummy thing to do indeed, but as I said, it happens no more than 20% of games (my games at least). Now divide that 20% by 4 (since there's only one survivor on the hook, the others can do gens, totems etc), and then it's 5%. That's really not much. Besides, facecamping is often done for memes. I find it funny when a Leatherface decides to guard my sorry cadaver so jealously. I get it that you don't, but again, it's an integral part of the game.

I'll tell you something that has a much worse impact on game: people DC-ing or suiciding on hook. Now THAT does happen 8 out of 10 games as far as I can tell. This is the thing that screws games over much more than any amount of facecamping.

  • Why is it that killer gets 4 perks, bloodlust, and the basement? What does the survivor get? Just 4 perks, I’m trying not to complain but we need some nerfs/buffs
Survivors can get the basement too you know.

Yeah, some complaints are legit, but definitelly not all of them, just a few.
I, for instance, am a survivor main (i play both roles actually but more as a survivor than as a killer), but i do like some forum members who are killer mains. Why? Because they are reasonable people, like @George_Soros or @PhantomMask20763 . There are more, but i'm not gonna name them all.
PS: and most importantly, they don't dodge SWFs!
Love you too, ye filthy maggot :P
Wish you came to your senses and return to PC.
  • This should be tested or at least thought over carefully. But I generally support the idea, it would bring soloes closer to SWF.
You'd have to give something to killers in return though. A simple change like that would have a huge impact on gen repair speed, making genrush even more easy than it is now.
  • hey congrats.
Prepare for Adept Legion though... that's gonna be a tough one.

  • It's more simple than that I think: if you don't have the perks or other goodies you'd need for high ranks, just keep playing with whatever you have. You'll derank quite easily. And if you don't derank, that means you're a good player, so you belong to higher ranks.

The only acceptable way to derank is playing either perkless or running only farming perks, like Distressing.

And please don't DC. That's an absolutely ######### thing to do. You shouldn't recommend that @The_Crusader .
  • First off, it's a strange notion coming from someone called @BACKSTABBER ...
Second, it's not really gory. That belly slit open, those innards turned out are not actually shown. It looks more like a murder in a theater than a murder in a gory slasher movie.
I'm fine with it personally, as I hate pointless gore (horror lies in suspense and creepiness rather than buckets of blood, that's why Nurse and Doctor moris are the best). And for a video game, nice animations are also a welcome. I think in this sense, Legion's mori is decent.

My favourite is what's happening right now =and happens every time a new PTB is out): only 10 hours into the PTB and people already shriek "new killer is useless crap BHVR sucks". Sad and hilarious the same time.

  • @Might_Oakk said:

I'll do as I please tyvm

    Hehh. Fair enough.

  • Most of the above are insufficient reasons to DC. I think it's only acceptable if:
    - bugged, unable to move
    - cheating (only when it's real cheating, which is very rare. Screwing up and claiming the opponent is cheating is childish, and it happens much more often than real cheating.)
    - RL reasons (house on fire, etc)
    - when you have pussy teammates who DC-d for whatever reason - I guess after the second one DC-s, I can't blame you.

Really: if you DC because the killer camps, or ONE stupid teammate hookfarms you, you're a sad loser (if you're being hookfarmed by one guy and you DC, you still screw over the other two who may not deserve it). Same if you're the kind who keeps blaming "#########" teammates.

Just don't DC. It's not that hard.

And @Might_Oakk , that's kind of a dumb thing to do too. It's definitely less than five minutes anyway, and you probably realize: when there's only two left and one is downed but not picked up, any smart survivor will know what's up. He'd be stupid to save you. On the other hand, DC-ing in this case may give him the Hatch and screw the killer over unfairly.
  • You timed it wrong. Adapt and adjust. You're welcome.

Of course... I play both sides. And as a survivor I T-Bag every window or pallet I vault. In the endgame lobby I hit that killer with the GG Ez. Even if I got owned in 3 seconds into the match. I tell them that they use crutch perks and camp. (Most of the killers actually do camp/tunnel.)

It's a great cycle that will keep me coming back forever.

I'm not quite sure what you were trying to get at. I guess I'm American so I don't really understand the whole British insult thing. Yes I'm a wanker. I have been known to masturbate occasionally. Along with just about everyone else the world. So... Anyone that plays CS:Go masturbates like the rest of the world?

The filter kind've cut out the word you called me. But I'm going to assume it wasn't a nice one. But if you can't handle a GG Ez... The internet probably isn't the place for you. Maybe you should settle for an afternoon on the couch with some Dora the Explorer.

It's all one vicious cycle of people becoming soft. Guess what dude. No one should be required to like anyone. No one has to be nice to anyone. It's okay to offend people.

Or disable the end game chat for the softies.

I quite explicitly said I don't mind that kind of thing, in fact, I'll never get it why people mind that much.

As for the word "wanker": it is an insult that people who pretend they never masturbate use against other people. Get it, wanker?

In most games the quality is a higher goal than quantity of playerß,  that's why you get banned for harassment in other games.
Yes of couse those special players would get banned and usually the strategy is that by establishing a nice environment to play in, more players will look into the game / keep playing.

And yes I behaviour is not focusing on this direction, that's why the balance is based around casual play instead if competitive to make it more appealing for beginners.

if you don't give a damn of you are being harassed, then that's up to you but fact is that the situation currently is a direct result of bvhr lacking moderation. Btw, on console they still dont even have the possibility to moderate, that'd how important it was to them when they rushed the console release

Look, real harassment is very rare: going after a player, perhaps finding their social media profiles, real data, etc, or in the worst cases, ddos like OP mentioned: these are harassment. Obviously these should result in instant and permanent bans.

  • @iTz_KilLaZ_x I just don't understand why that's a problem. People saying nasty things to you through the internet... yea big deal. People have always been "brave" when they think they're anonymous. Report or don't, and just move on. It's part of gaming culture. But words are just words.

I happen to have one: catch and hook one early. Trying that with Clown... mixed results.
