I would prefer shards myself but I understand that this would impact profits, and like any game company BHVR is a for-profit business.
No offense but it doesn't matter what they do. People said that the game is too much of a "grind" (which I don't quite understand, since if the game is fun then it shouldn't be a grind, being that there's no ultimate end goal, and if the game ISN'T fun then there's no reason to play it) so BHVR added an incentive that's thousands if not hundreds of thousands more BP per month than we were already getting and people are STILL complaining.
I mean, no personal offense, but can people be happy about ANYTHING that this company does? Why even play a game that frustrates you in so many endless ways? I know I'm in the minority but #########, people are mad that the BP reward isn't enough and I'm sitting here thinking "I'll take the extra BP that I wasn't getting before, thank you".

Maybe, stop worrying about MMR.
Who cares if that players MMR is raised because they escaped with a key? 1. It's a single match, it probably won't make much of a difference. 2. They're only shooting themselves in the foot is they do it intentionally, because MMR only serves matchmaking, leading to harder matches for that survivor.
MMR isn't a medal to brag about, or a goal to achieve, or something to get jealous about, it's literally just the matchmaking algorithm, working in the background, to try to match players with similarly skilled opponents.
100 percent agree.

I hate to say this but it might have something to do with the hours you say you have most people that post on these forums have thousands of hours while you have a mere 700
No that's fine, I understand. That's why I specified my numbers: I'm sure they play a part, however much that may be. I think that a lot of the people having problems are just misconstruing the grades and their own prowess, and maybe are acting a little impatiently before giving this system time to "settle" and "bake in" each individual player's skill radius. That's just my guess, not meant to be an accusation or anything.
But yeah, I take no offense. 700 hours is actually an average of about 115 hours per month for as long as I've owned the game so I figure that's pretty decent. :P
-
This is anecdotal (as are all comments regarding stuff like this) but I've seen two face campers. Two. That's two games since the SBMM was enabled, two game out of probably 75.
One camper was Ghostface. Anyone wanna guess who the other one was?
-
I actually agree with Sluzzy from time to time but not today. My game's been great.
-
Endgame camping is fine. It's a very legitimate strategy. As survivor I may be bummed about it, but I recognize the value of the play. When I play killer I don't do it myself but everyone's different.
It has nothing to do with matchmaking, it's always been a thing and always will.
-
Solo survivor, mid-rank, Steam, 700 hours total: Not overly sweaty at all. Well, the occasional sweaty Blight or Ghostface but that's to be expected. My games are as good or better than they've been since before SBMM.

I had really high hopes and a positive expectation of SBMM. I sincerely wanted to believe the hype, and the pamphlets BHVR released singing it's praises.
But it has truly been nothing but a misery for me as a Solo queue survivor. Never in my wildest dreams did I think things could get worse, but BHVR apparently excels at that.
My first 5-6 matches after SBMM wa implemented seemed pretty balanced and fun. Then something happened and the past two days? It's been hell. Not a single fun or fair game. Every Killer is a Rank 1 (formerly I suppose) and the camping and tunneling is off the charts. I just played 5 matches and gave up. Every single Killer not only camping and tunneling survivors at 5 gens out of the game, they've all had atrociously bad manners. hitting people while they camp them, one left me as the last survivor to bleed out while he just stood there in front me watching for the full 204 mins (whatever length it is).
I don't know what the hell is happening anymore.
I honestly have no idea what's happening to people who say these things. I believe you - I'm not saying that you're lying - I just don't understand why others are having such a different experience. I'm solo survivor as well, sometimes I play with 1 fellow survivor friend, and I've been floating between the copper and gold grades. My opponents have been as well, in fact many of them are ash, and only occasionally do I see an iri who usually isn't especially amazing. With a handful of exceptions everyone's been decent to good, which is where I'm comfortable saying I am also at.
-
I'm loving SBMM. My queue times as survivor are near-instantaneous (literally, press the ready button and I'm in the lobby within twenty seconds or less) during the day and at night it's the same for killers, as it's always been. My matches have largely been comfortably competitive and fun.
I can't speak for anyone else but I have zero complaints. Nothing has gotten worse for me, things have only remained as good as they were or improved. Steam version, 700 hours of play, mid-rank.
-
The Trapper is a hulking beast, probably about 6 feet and 275 pounds of muscle. As much as I love Amanda (and I really do), that poor girl is probably 110 pounds soaking wet. All Trapper would need to do is grab a hold of her and throw her across Macmillan. Game over.
-
I'm a good Doc player. Not an expert, but I get told that I'm tricky pretty regularly. My matches with him have been roughly the same as they were before SBMM. As survivor I'm enjoying SBMM more, as killer I'm finding it about the same (which is to say, mostly casual with at least 2 kills if I wanted them). Haven't gotten a sweat squad yet but I've only played killer half a dozen times so far in SBMM.
-
I'm having as much fun with the game as I ever have, maybe more so. In this case the onus is on YOU to prove to ME that the game isn't fun.
-
I actually have a lot of positive things to say about the game. I'm working up the motivation to make an entire thread about it, which I know will be bashed, but the purpose will be to invite others to talk about the things that they legitimately like or love about the game. I'm really enjoying it right now, and when I'm really enjoying it I can't help but think "damn, despite its flaws, there's really nothing else like this".
I even think that they may have turned the fog back up a bit. Maybe it's just me, maybe it's placebo, but I've noticed what seems like a mistier Red Forest and less clear Ormond, to name a couple. I've actually seen the killer disappear into the distance on each of these maps. I'm having fun against Pinhead as well. I don't know, I'm totally on the side of those who have performance complaints, but the game seems like it's starting to rebound from the unfortunate RE debacle to me.

You have already and ill answer again using an extract from David's tome lore.
"His ex has moved on and she doesn't want to see his face."
How would I add on lgbt+ representation? "His ex has moved on and he doesn't want to see his face."
Bam.
The character of David King is almost identical- he fought back against his abusive father, was forced to work as a debt collector, has serious anger issues and is a chronic alcoholic in London ever since being thrown off the rugby team. And yet it is definitive LGBT+ representation of at least bisexuality/pansexuality.
You don't even need a clause of "He always knew he'd liked boys" which makes it specifically mlm (men loving men) rep, you can leave it open to be interpreted in whichever way you want, provided it is canon he was in a same-sex relationship and it is implied he still has feelings for the partner.
For trans representation, this I don't know much about. I'm cisgendered and won't pretend to know what I'm talking about on the subject- sorry.
There's another form of representation though, which could also be added in with very little effort needed. Instead of using the pronouns "he/him" or "she/her" to describe someone, use "they/them".
Again, I'm going to use David's lore as an example because it's the one I currently have on hand, but
"His ex has moved on and they don't want to see his face again".
There's also the version of using multiple pronouns (genderfluid) though from reading the forums half of the community would throw a tantrum instead of trying to understand.
If you would like an example of a game that does this very well, look at Apex Legends.
Perfectly acceptable.

Just an unintended glitch guys. A lot of people still have their DLC, you didn't permanently lose anything. Don't worry.

Bring back the line. It is SO not the same without the line.
Beyond that, I dig him. Maybe slow those chains down a bit but beyond that I enjoy facing him.

Hey Karu, I asked this rhetorically in the previous thread before it was deleted but no one responded. Maybe you'd care to? Just out of curiosity: As a gay man (I think that's what you described yourself as, forgive me if I'm mistaken), I'm wondering: How would YOU design a character that would feel appropriately represents the queer fanbase? Would it be male? Female? Trans? Would their sexuality be a major component of who they are or just a side element that's not really an integral part of the character's story?
I just got to thinking about this because so many people want LGBT representation, which is fine, but it seems that a lot of people don't even necessarily agree on what such representation would look like. I figured I'd ask someone who feels strongly about the subject for their opinion.
-
Solo survivor. My matches have been as smooth as a moist gummy bear. I'm very much enjoying the game.
-
I had my first match against him today (I didn't mess with the PTB this time). I enjoyed facing him. I liked the sound work on the chains and felt that there was a satisfying, tangible sensation to being snatched by them as well as breaking them. They DO come a bit too rapidly - I had to break free of like three of them just to open a single chest - but they add to the tension and help to make the character unique (as well as true to his style). I might get sick of him eventually, yes, but I like the design and enjoyed my first match with him (which we won).
Playing against Pinhead isn't like playing against any other killer. If people are already ragequitting against him then they're petulant babies.
-
The gauntlet has been thrown down.
-
Sweet Tooth in Twisted Metal Black is pretty dark. Just a huge, angry, insatiable serial killer. He gets the chance to end the curse placed on him by an evil priest to put out the fire that's constantly burning his head, but he instead chooses to kill the person who offers this just because he wanted the satisfaction of another murder.
-
Yes, I still have faith in them. I've seen the best and worst of other gaming companies, sometimes from both sides of the glass. They're not perfect and neither is their game but it's still a hell of a lot of fun.

Hag, because every time Demo tried to approach he'd be hit with fifteen ######### traps.
-
I actually would be interested in knowing whether the community could reach a consensus of what constituted a reasonable, positive, acceptable (if not great) rendition of an LGBT character. Would they be female? Male? Trans? Non-binary? Would they be openly proud and wear their sexuality on their sleeve? Would their sexuality be a simple minor detail of their personal life? Would their story revolve around it? Would they be masculine? Effeminate?
So many variables, I know I'd hate to be the person responsible for getting this right.

BHVR didn't provide or do anything and the cenobites aren't even the first LGBT+ killers. BHVR just happened to get a second lisence that included LGBT+ characters.
It will certainly be an interesting experience to see the first official LGBT+ character.
That's just it. BHVR made a choice based on the license, not representation. I'm fine with representation, I think it's safe to say that most players of this game would be fine if not ecstatic with what they consider to be representation. I just don't understand why so many of the company's decisions have to be judged by that criteria. They wanted Hellraiser, they got Hellraiser, then they gave us some extra stuff to go along with it. That's awesome. That's a good thing. I can see people complaining about the prices of the skins (as I have) but sexuality, gay or straight or anything in between, shouldn't be a part of the argument because it's incidental in this situation. They wanted Hellraiser because of its status as iconic horror, I doubt that they were thinking much deeper than that.
But yes, it WILL be interesting to see what happens when they do release the first official openly LGBT original character. Half the forum will be thrilled, the other half will be outraged. In other words it will be a typical day on the DBD forums.

I think the problem is more about the fact that it's yet another overtly villainous character and people are sick of being associated with villains. Like it or not, cenobites are a clear case of "deviant = evil", one that actually affects people who enjoy BDSM way more than the LGBT+ community.
Do you mean that you feel some are upset at the idea that an evil character has been introduced to the game who also happens to be or have been LGBT? If that were the case I would understand the argument a little more, but that wasn't how it was phrased. Instead the complaint seems to be "we finally have our "first" LGBT character and it's a monster that BHVR didn't even create".
That said, it's also worth mentioning that the Cenobites are not seen as evil to everyone, they deliver what those who open the box are seeking. They just can't differentiate between pleasure and pain. That's the original story anyway, I don't know about the later films which I don't think Barker had anything to do with.
I guess my point is that yeah, your argument does make more sense, but what I'm taking from this thread is that the irritation is with BHVR for providing a character that's only LGBT from a certain perspective, and not anything that they themselves had to put original thought into, which bugs me because I don't feel that everything the company does should be judged by that metric.

@glitchboi said:
I'm prepared for the shitstorm that's about to come out of this thread.
I just don't understand why this is coming up again in this particular situation. I understand the desire for LGBT characters but being angry that we got a character that can, depending one's point of view, be construed as LGBT but "not LGBT enough" because it's a monster that is no longer strictly what we consider gay is just total overkill to me.
Clive Barker is gay, people. The man who gave us this character and these stories is straight-up gay. He used to me a male prostitute and took some of the inspiration from this story by his experiences with gay customers. The story is about pansexual interdimensional creatures that exist to inflict inconceivable degrees of both pleasure and pain against anyone who opens the box, male or female. I mean, instead of being happy that we got cool characters from a cool story written by a cool person who also happens to be LGBT, we have to be angry that "not enough" has been done for LGBT representation? I would get that argument if BHVR positioned this chapter as being the answer to requests for such a thing. They didn't. They just wanted to add another classic horror franchise. Why are we looking for ways to pick that apart? Why can't we be happy to have more cool stuff?
I mean, I sit here and picture the people at BHVR saying "awesome, the fans have been waiting for this for a long time, they'll love this", only to be utterly perplexed when someone says "Nice job guys, You could only go half-gay. You ruin everything". I mean, what?

Is there a reason for this response? I'm genuinely curious.
Just that people seem to find absolutely any contrived reason that they can to complain.
BHVR got the license to Hellraiser, something I'm sure they've been wanting for a while. Chatterer is a famous and beloved character from that series, second only to Pinhead (or perhaps the heroine of the first two films). They wanted to add him so they did. I love Chatterer. I was thrilled.
This should be good news but STILL some people are finding reasons to be upset. I just don't get it. It's not a LGBT thing or anything like that to me. It's that this aspect of the character is being used to work backwards to the point of being angry at BHVR for something that isn't their fault. It isn't anyone's fault. There is no fault. No one did anything wrong. But let's be mad at them anyway.
Doesn't anyone else get sick of the perpetual complaining about absolutely EVERYTHING about this game?
-
@gatsby said:

Wow the representation finally happened through a legendary cosmetic of a character that wasn't created by Behavior. You love to see it?
Sigh
-
I'm upset that the line was removed but I don't blame BHVR for wording the explanation the way that they did. First, they're not obligated to say anything about it (it would have been worse if they hadn't, but they still weren't obligated). Second, I think a lot of people don't understand just how ridiculously tight some things are when dealing with licenses, contracts, the PR department, legal, etc. When I playtested a WWE game back in 2013 I couldn't even say something as basic as "lots of people who were playing the game chose the same character".

(It would be nice to have a response from one of the developer saying that they saw us and that they will work on it to reassure us)
Did you ever happen to play Perfect Dark on the Nintendo 64 back in the day? Amazing. I put hundreds of hours into the combat simulator mode of that game just because of the unpredictability and fun of testing different scenarios with characters set to my exact specifications whenever I wanted. The original Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare has a thriving mod scene that includes a mod which allows bot play, and I've worked with several other people in creating "waypoints" for those bots to be able to navigate hundreds of different homemade custom maps. Bot play is a phenomenal way to spend time when you're not able to or just don't want to head online to rely on strangers for a fun game.

I wouldn't call it immature. People find different thing funny. I don't really think that removing the voice line is a big deal. I'm not really a fan of the movies, though.
I'm a big fan of the original, and the book it's based on, which is why the removal of the line bothers me. "The box. You opened it. We came" is the first line uttered by a Cenobite and it only comes more than halfway through the film, during a grand total of probably five minutes of their screen time. It's the introductory line to a character who has absolutely no idea what's going on, a line that in its simplicity heralds the profundity of who the Cenobites are and what they do.
Lauging at the word "came" because it has sexual connotations strikes me as the kind of thing that stops being funny when you're a teenager, so it's disappointing to see that so many players of this game apparently found it to be the height of comedy. Do I know that this is why the line was removed? No. I'm simply saying that if it is, then I'm really disappointed. Wouldn't be the first time that something cool has been ruined by a dumb meme.
-
Technically, if we did, the survivors wouldn't have a chance because they'd go insane trying to comprehend it. :)

What is so creative about another range / skillshot ability? Obviously we have chains which was dead given but what they made with that is another infusion of what we already had the last few killers before.
The chains, the ability to teleport PLUS do a quick phase through solid objects, plus the puzzle box. It's all pretty true to the character and not just a singular "point and fire" mechanic.

Just pitching in to all of these threads to show my support for the return of that line. Not because people turned it into a stupid meme, but because it's iconic.
