It WOULD be more valuable if there was a way to let players know IN GAME about something like this.

A lot of people don't read patch notes and so forth. It's a busy world...

I think that this was in the game-loadup news today, actually.

From what it seems, its not coming back, mods don't want to talk about it and its not a "known issue" on the patch notes.

That SUCKS. Thanks, all the children out there.

  • Please just don't let this be because a bunch of immature people kept laughing at the line. Those who are familiar with Hellraiser understand the significance and how cool the line actually is.

  • I'm seriously hoping that they didn't just take it out because a bunch of immature little children couldn't stop giggling at the double entendre. The line is iconic.

  • I'm still eagerly awaiting bots. The tutorial stuff is a solid foundation, now they just need a fully customizable version of it. Even if they just do it in incremental steps I'd love to be able to play as different survivors and go against even just a couple of different killers. I'd also love to choose my favorite maps, get to practice more looping and so forth. This would be a great time for it as well given that SBMM is going to throw a lot of people off for a little while.

That said, objectively speaking, optimization for our console brothers and sisters is still most important right now.

  • Wraiths always play cheap, Bubbas almost always camp, and bunny Feng is toxic.

  • Wraith is fine he's C tier just play better and be by a window and have a flashlight and run Spine Chill and make surzzzzzzzzzzz......

I prefer indoor maps, but i'm still waiting on my urban-setting cul-de-sac map.

Are you being serious (I ask because it could be read as sarcasm)? If so I'd be curious to hear more. That sounds intriguing.

  • To be totally honest I don't know if I've ever been tunneled by Pig. There aren't a whole lot of killers who seem to reliably tunnel in my experience. Wraith, Leatherface, Trickster, Legion, Myers and Ghostface are the only ones that immediately come to mind as having been overly persistent in my games. I love facing Pig, I don't have any problem with her myself.

  • Yes, I would. Out of three dozen maps there are like five that are indoors. Coldwind, Autohaven, Badham and Macmillan take up more than half of all available maps combined.

When I cross the rank threshold between 6 and 5, I have the same experience as you, only as killer. Everything goes from be being that chill killer ######### having fun and losing and winning and just going against the most fun, chill, extremely good opponents... Into the unsolicited quagmire of mediocre players trying to dominate me completely and utterly with the same perks, builds, and W-focused tactics.

Doesn't happen with Survivor. Not sure why. Possibly because I haven't been above rank 7 in months (I don't actively try to rank up, which means I also don't often accidentally pip as survivor).

I've heard from a lot of people that survivor stops being fun after about rank 10, that anything higher (meaning a greater number) is a more comfortable game. I can't speak for that since I took their advice and deliberately avoided trying to get sweatier players than I was already experiencing at that level, lol.

That last test was the best matchmaking I’ve experienced

Same here. I won't speak for everybody because some have reported worse games but for me it was a massive improvement. I also enjoyed the lack of visible ranks, to be honest. In addition to matches themselves being less sweaty, the missing ranks lowered the subconscious concern of sweat as well.

  • @GoshJosh said:

Well sheesh, it woulda helped to mention you’re freakin’ rank 13 in your post. Nothing out of the ordinary for that rank I would say, and nothing you mentioned sounds like the bots in DbD mobile.

The ranks don't have anything to do with it, if they did I'd be seeing this every time the ranks reset or I hadn't played much in a few weeks. No offense but seriously, how often do you see someone just run in a giant circle over and over and someone else run in place against a solid wall?

I can't speak for the mobile bots but the mobile and PC versions aren't designed by the same people.

  • Yesterday my games were all very chill. And no, to those who are cynical of survivor mains, "chill" doesn't mean "easy wins" to everybody who plays this game. To me a "chill" game is simply a game where neither side is sweaty: The matches go for a good ten to fifteen minutes with good balance, no clear winner for most of the trial, lots of saves and chases, etc. In other words, no INTENSE WIN AT ALL COSTS ACT LIKE A JERK SUPER PRESSURE. Just a game that's...you know, FUN.

This was the same way that things were for me during the SBMM. Yet today I noticed (possibly because I rose in rank just as I stopped playing last night, I don't know) that everything was a totally mixed bag again. Bubba spawning within fifty feet and downing me within twelve seconds then camping me until dead. A Spirit that rushed back and forth between everybody forcing a game of musical hooks with no one (but Spirit) reaching 10,000 BP. A meta build Nurse who slugged everyone four or five minutes into the match. Multiple superkit Wraiths. All the master Blights I've been reading about but never experienced before. Ranks that were something like 10, 10, 10, and 4.

I don't know what happened between yesterday and today but today was a reminder that yeah, I'm looking forward to the SBMM too.

  • This happened again and today I was able to grab and preserve the video. I edited the post - sorry for the bump but my assumption is that it's better to do this with a relatively recent thread instead of creating a new one for the same subject. If not I honestly apologize.

These honestly look like bots to me, am I alone in this?

@miketheratguy : do you have BSOD now each time you launch DBD, or did it happened just one time and now the game runs fine ?

So far just the once. I can't say that I want to replicate it though if it DID happen regularly I'd at least be able to provide more information. I just wanted to add to this topic because I was surprised to see that someone else had also gotten a BSOD during the same period that I did.

  • The ability to defend yourself or respond in a reliable manner commensurate to the threat.

  • I just got my first BSOD today for what seemed like no reason whatsoever. I've been playing this game for five months, 600 hours in, all types of games and variables and circumstances, yet boom, right after a match with my friend my computer crashed hard. That's never happened before with this game and has only ever happened with this particular machine maybe once or twice several years ago.

I AM on Win 7 but the game's been running just fine for me all summer. Nothing was out of the ordinary today.

I played 3 yamaoka followed by 3 McMillan 2 Ormond. That was just today in like 2 hours.

    I honestly believe you.

  • Swamp twice in a row followed by Yamaoka twice in a row followed by the usual shuffle of 50 Macmillan, Coldwind and Autohaven maps. Throw in Crotus and Ormond a couple times per day.

It's hard to remember that there are about 36 maps in the game when I keep getting...I don't know, less than ten?

  • Because they've gone out of their way to eliminate all traces of fog in this game, any character can see any other character from hundreds of feet away. Doesn't matter what they're wearing. As long as they're in the open or moving (or even just looking around a rock or something) they're likely to get spotted. There HAVE been a few instances of my characters happening to get lucky and hunker down in a corner while the killer walks by, but we're talking like four or five such instances in as many months of playing the game.

In short, the game doesn't really have such a thing as cosmetic camouflage. You'll be brighter or darker depending, but unless you're spending all your time crouching in a bush (which you shouldn't be regardless) the difference won't be significant.

  • Leatherface is a regular human being. Pinhead is an interdimensional demon.

    So, long story short...

I like indoor maps more than outdoor maps. I like Lery's. I like Midwich. I like RPD. I like Hawkins (even though it's pretty much gone now).

They all gave off a feeling of other horror games, not knowing exactly where you'll encounter the killer, with how vision is heavily limited, and all that other atmospheric stuff. I find the games more fun when there's that feeling of 'I hear the radius, now where is he?' instead of 'Welp, there he is. Didn't even need to hear the radius to know where I'm supposed to move to now.'

You're not alone friend. The indoor maps all happen to be my favorites. It's not even necessarily that they're indoors (the only difference is that there are more walls and a ceiling, after all) it's that I think that they're just more interesting, more unique, more well-designed. Most of the outdoor maps are basically just big open areas with different-looking obstacles sprinkled throughout.

Gideon's, Hawkins, Lery's and Midwich are my favorite maps in the game and I'm fine being in the minority on that. You can only run around so many trees, boulders and crushed cars before you want something different.

  • No updates. I got the Switch version in early summer based in part on the fact that cross-progression was advertised as being on the way, but they've said nothing since.

  • I'm of the belief that whenever a map is disabled there should be an in-game news notice saying so every day, and remain that way until the maps are enabled again (at which point the notice would obviously change to reflect this). People shouldn't have to scroll through twitter every day to see if a map is playable or not. Just today I saw a killer waste a Saloon offering so obviously not everyone is aware of this stuff, which seems to be happening all the time.

The alternative would be to disable the offerings along with their respective maps so no one wastes them.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/277020/the-people-complaining-about-sbmm-are-the-people-who-we-are-trying-to-avoid

3k hours here, can honestly say that people, especially content creators, will be less likely to create content/have fun consistently.

Yes, SBMM has left even me with some matches that were absolutely amazing, but on average? The matches were worse than current matchmaking. I've encountered more campers, forcing me to run perks I do not enjoy running just to be able to play more than 2 minutes after I am downed the first time.

SBMM isnt the solution, it's part of a solution. At best, SBMM should affect 30% of my matches. If half of my matches are based around SBMM, I am not gonna have fun, and I would be inclined to quit after 3k hours of gameplay where most games were fun, even if they were frustrating at times. Now, 90% of my games would be frustrating as I would gain less bloodpoints because people are going to run optimal strats more often, and optimal strats give both sides a minimal amount of bloodpoints. Increasing the already existing grind, making games less fun on average and forcing players to run boring perks.

SBMM is bad, even for the casual player. Because higher rank solo survivors will straight up quit. Higher rank killers would straight up quit. Leaving only the highest ranked spirits and nurses against the highest ranked SWF's, which arent going to be plenty, meaning to reduce matchmaking, those teams would need to be matched up with the next best thing.

Too bad for the "content creators" then. They play to make money, the rest of us play to have fun. The latter group should take priority. And if higher rank players quit because they're not getting what they want then they're a bigger problem than SBMM is.

  • What I don't understand is that everyone complained about matchmaking being messed up before all of this. Constant (and valid, in my opinion) complaints about going against smurfers, rainbow rank survivors, etc etc etc. People were talking about how abysmal the matchmaking was in this game for months if not years.

They've finally figured out a change that a lot of people are happy with, yet the complaints don't stop. I honestly don't think they ever will.

    Hey guys,

Streamers don't want SBMM because it makes their streams look bad. There's a lot of propaganda from streamers right now telling everyone how horrible SBMM is. My suggestion is to ignore it.

Of course Streamers don't want SBMM and of course your hearing a lot of bad stuff about SBMM because the content creators are where we get info from right now.

I'm sick of streamers trying to dictate how this game is shaped, their preferences and opinions being regurgitated all over the internet as if they're the final word on DBD. Just because they spend all their time playing the game doesn't mean that they speak for everybody who plays it (especially when many of them, as you correctly observed, benefit from the game being a certain way).

The perk is good specially if you can lose the LoS after using it. The killer will have no way to find you again unless he spot a crow flying. Be careful that perk is not brain dead like the meta perk survivor use you need good timing and to be a good survivor overall to have good use out of it.

Can you provide more detail? I've never used the perk but you make it seem interesting.

  • I had a much less stressful time playing the game during the SBMM test. I'm very much looking forward to it.

The way I personally see it is that since wraith has to get 2 hits to down. Even if he ambushed you in a bad spot as long as you don’t get grabbed you should have time to make it to something. And (unless he’s using all seeing blood. Which does need a nerf) once he gets that first hit his power does almost nothing for him besides making him catch up to you faster. While yes there certainly will be some situations where the time it takes for him to catch up and uncloak isn’t enough time for you to make it to anything. It’s usually due to either resources being wasted or extremely bad positioning. And while that does admittedly sometimes feel cheap. When you take into consideration that his weakness turns him into an m1 killer with no power I think it balances things out. Is wraith kinda boring? Yeah. Does he need any changes? Besides all seeing blood, I would say no.

My opinion is that too many people place too much emphasis on the fact that he's an M1 killer. They make it sound as though just because he doesn't have a special attack that can shoot lasers or something he's inherently "weak". I see the same argument used for other killers as well. When was it decided that just because a character doesn't have a long-range instant down power it means that they suck?

Again, I'm not targeting you specifically. These are just arguments I hear from so many people so often. Like the inability to catch up, for example. I've never had trouble catching up with anyone as Wraith, especially since his buff. Take a circular route around the target so they can't see the blur, flank them from about ten feet away, uncloak get the free super lunge hit, then as soon as you're able just cloak again, race right up to them, uncloak, hit them for the down. This has happened literally every time I've ever tried it, though it's certainly worth noting that I don't even like PLAYING as the Wraith. I feel too guilty and I'm sick of the DCs. So I can only rely on my own anecdotal experience.

Honestly, if the speed and / or distance of his post-cloak lunge was reduced, and if his ability to cloak and uncloak silently was removed, I wouldn't have that much of a problem with him. He'd still have his abilities, people just wouldn't be able to exploit them so easily. To me it's obvious that he was given his bell as a tell to let players know when he was uncloaking and thus time to run. Why turn around and remove it? Why also give the guy a massive lunge that can be executed basically the second he phases into view (which also seems faster than it used to be)?

I'm fine with going against just about any killer in this game. I accept my losses and acknowledge my own shortcomings. But when there's a killer who - let's face it, has a very strong chance of doing damage before you even know who you're up against and where they might be - that's just not fun. At all. Wraith may be more "balanced" in terms of what he's like against other killers, or his former self, but he's not balanced in terms of survivor counterplay. That's the problem I have with him.

  • @UnknownKiller said:

I just got only positives experiences of SBMM

Same here. My games felt more balanced, evenly matched, competitive without being sweaty. The games felt challenging but fun, not a display of frustrating tryhard win-at-all-costs aggression.

It's hard to adequately explain. Things weren't suddenly a cakewalk, but playing just felt more "relaxed".

  • @Thr_ust said:

I’d put wraith in high B tier probably. He still gets absolutely dominated by windows.

If you happen to be near one, yes, sometimes. That's just it - I've seen some people say "he's not too bad if you're near windows and loops", and the people who say that in a way that's polite (such as yourself) obviously mean well, but the thing I don't understand is why anyone assumes that the player is always near a good loop or window. If that were the case wouldn't survivors be decimating every killer in this game? There are gens (and totems, and hooks) that are all over the place - in relative dead zones, in corners, etc. - but the argument always boils down to conditional factors that aren't always in the player's control. "Be by windows and loops, always have a flashlight, and always run Spine Chill". People should really have to have a Wraith preparedness kit just to balance out how cheap he is? That tells me that there's a problem with the character's kit.

  • Wraith got buffed a month or so back. He's now incredibly cheap, gets easy hits, suffers no cooldown on any of his powers, and takes almost no skill whatsoever to use. People started figuring that out and now they use and abuse him constantly. Ask a killer main though and you'll hear that it's the survivors' fault, they just need to play better and are salty that they can't "bully him" anymore. "He's fine, he's C-tier".

  • Meyers gets sick of chasing and just straight up shoots you.

Dbd colours - red bad, yellow good in relation to things outside of auras!

Definitely makes sense. The game needs some green! Make the bars and the auras green whenever a character is doing something at double speed or whatever, lol.

    @NomiNomad said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2466254#Comment_2466254

No problem! Here's another bit if info, actually.

If the progress bar is red, it is slowed down by something. Perks mostly. This also happens when two Survivors are working on the same gen, since your bar only tracks your own personal progress. The gen is being repaired faster, but your own progress is technically being slowed. By 15%, I think.

A yellow bar means your progress is being sped up, and the normal blue-grey means nothing is affecting it.

Oh that makes so much more sense, it was the red gen repair that was partly responsible for screwing me up. I run Prove Thyself a lot so I see the bar go red quite frequently. I used to figure that red meant "bad" until I got used to the gen scenario. Your explanation makes sense. It's weird that the game sort of misleads you by saying "yeah, you're completing the gen faster, but your own individual gen repair speed is slowing down to match the new average".

  • I've only been playing this game for 5 months but in that time I've noticed that both survivors AND killers follow many of the same patterns. Both sides complain about perks, both sides complain about the other side, both sides complain about nerfs and buffs, both sides argue about the same 5-6 topics month in, month out. This isn't a survivor OR a killer thing. It's a people thing. I'm guilty of it too and I don't even LIKE it.

I honestly wish we could go one week - hell, even one day - where all the topics were actually polite, constructive, open-minded discussions and not criticism, claims of bait, and whining about "people who do this that or the other make the game suck because XYZ".

The killer is using the perk Iron Grasp, which slows down wiggle progress and limits how much the wiggle affects the killers movements.

Right? The caravan is not even close to a full amusement park or carnival map. I've been dreaming of a full Clown map since he came out. Something like this!

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/8ST5VLABM34P/index.jpg

Exactly. I have no idea why they didn't go with a full-fledged amusement park. Doesn't have to be anything MASSIVE like Disneyland or anything, even just a basic county fair type of scenario with a handful of roller coasters, a shooting gallery, some snack shacks, etc. It seems like a huge map opportunity was missed for Clown.

  • Not interested in doubling the players in a match. They have enough trouble balancing everything as it is.

  • Forgive me for asking but sometimes my wiggle bar is red instead of the standard blue. I don't use any perks related to the mechanic, what's causing that?

  • I liked your third one in particular, the one with the gate. Looks like it could be the gate to a mausoleum.

There are multiple schools in DBD, and the age of the non-existent students doesn't mean much. Chapel has an amusement perk. Shelter Woods and almost any Coldwind map are about as woodsy as BHVR will ever go. This game isn't designed to handle constant obstructions like in a dense forest. An abandoned mall and a cemetery would be pretty cool, I'm just pointing out the redundancies in your post

    Redundancies?

    • Regarding the school, there's hardly a school of any sort in this game. It's a tiny nondescript building that doesn't resemble any school I've ever seen, with a couple of rooms that range between the size of a closet and a small jail cell. I'm talking about an actual school with a gym, cafeteria, vestibules, a library, etc. You know, a SCHOOL. Not just a little building in the middle of a dead end road.
    • Chapel does not have an amusement park, it has a small caravan with a few boxes, a horse, and a fortune telling machine in one small corner of the map. Did you see the picture I posted?
    • The Red Forest is about the closest that this game comes to representing anything resembling actual woods, and it's still wide open. Have you ever been in the deep forest? Where the trees form a canopy that light can't penetrate, and where wandering off of an established path will actually get you lost? I can't personally speak for whether the game's engine can support many trees but it used to, so I don't really know why that would be a problem now.

It's perfectly fine if you don't like my suggestions but I find it kind of odd that someone could look at any of the photos I posted and say "oh yeah, that's already a map, that looks like something straight out of DBD".

Uhhh you realize many of these already exist? BHVR just doesn't create good graphics

I didn't realize that, no. From what I can tell my copy of the game doesn't have a hotel, high school, amusement park, thick woods, a cemetery, or an abandoned mall in it.

  • In my experience all Wraiths are already played by bots as it is.

  • I'd be all for Bond as survivor basekit, any killer-reading info as basekit would feel like too much to me. On the other side I think Corrupt Intervention would get profoundly annoying (could you imagine being abruptly cut off of a gen 100 times a day?) but Blood Warden is kind of an interesting one.
