Yes, MMR is what we get by default right now. SBMM was the skill-based system that didn't take ranks into consideration
Okay, that's what I thought but I just wanted to be sure. Thanks for the clarification. I can reiterate then that yes, the games I played during the SBMM test were in fact the ones that had the most consistently comfortable, enjoyable flow to me - challenging without being especially stressful, other players that felt competent without being sweaty and fallible without being useless. Almost every game was a fun back and forth where the ending was a complete tossup rather than a one-sided game that simply switched to the other side halfway through. I felt like I was playing a game, not competing for bragging rights. My experience with the SBMM was short, but overwhelmingly positive.
-
Just to share, for anyone who may happen to care:
I myself am a 43 year-old male with GAD (generalized anxiety disorder). In short, it's worrying about the same regular things that anyone else would worry about, but worrying about them with much greater intensity. Someone more "normal" might be concerned that their boy or girlfriend didn't get home when they were supposed to, and take note to keep an eye on the clock. Someone like me would be watching that clock obsessively, looking at it every few minutes, wondering every ten or fifteen minutes whether the person is cheating on me, got into a car accident, racing over all the possibilities as to why they couldn't have gotten a hold of me by now, etc etc etc. It's crippling sometimes. Exhausting at the very, VERY least.
When I was a kid I was shy and sensitive but I was raised well and had a loving family. But as I grew into my teens and in particular my early 20s, when I was with a girl who greatly exacerbated my anxiety problems with her behavior, things got worse. At that time the concept of GAD was a fairly new thing. Much more is known about it now. I take meds and see a therapist for it. It's the best I can do to try to live each day like a somewhat regular person and not get overwhelmed by my worries about something going wrong. I'm not ashamed to share this, it's not something I asked for and it's just a chemical imbalance that I was born with. It's part of who I am and I try to do my best with it.
I say all this because I want to help anyone who feels mentally exhausted or in any way frustrated with this game, or with basically anything in society, not feel as alone. I'm a loner by choice - I try to be friendly and polite (I don't even feel good getting kills in this game) and I never try to be outwardly hostile to people I don't know. But under the surface I still struggle with trusting people, enjoying the company of people, tolerating the society that I currently live in. I do my best but it's hard sometimes. Video games, like movies, have always been my comfortable escape.
When I see people acting like complete jerks in this game, I try to let it roll off my back and to be honest I'm usually successful. These people don't know me. I'm an anonymous rando on the other side of the screen, just like they are to me. They're empowered by their anonymity and many of them are likely just immature. I accept that. But sometimes, especially if I'm having a bad day and just want to unwind, certain behaviors in this game just make me feel negative and angry. It makes me reflect on the world and all the things I dislike about it. The needless selfishness. The dishonesty. The myriad of ways that people take advantage of and hurt each other. The more I allow myself to dwell on the negative the more I feel like I will never truly escape from it because this world certainly isn't going to change, let alone change in a way that makes things more pleasant for people like me.
So I mean, to the OP and anyone else who might have taken the time to read this, and can maybe relate even just a little bit, I understand. We play games to have fun. We play games to smile and laugh and feel good about ourselves, to forget our troubles. This world is harsh and careless enough as it is without throwing ourselves into situations where people we don't know serve as calloused reminders of what it is that makes us want to tune "life" out in the first place. Sometimes it sucks. Sometimes it really sucks.
While my advice will be the same as most others': If a game is making you stressed and you find yourself having a worse time because of it, not a better one, just walk away. Make yourself walk away. Find some emotional peace in grabbing a good book, crunching up on the couch or even in bed to watch a favorite movie, give a phone call to a friend, go to some websites that engross you or make you laugh. Don't allow the behavior of other people to dictate how you feel. You don't need to swear off the game, you don't even need to talk to anybody about it if you don't want to. You can just drop it, do something else for the day, the week, the month, even the year, and funnel your energy into something more positive and productive. No form of entertainment is worth making yourself feel worse about the world or your place within it. Walk away and feel better about you, and the things in your life that you know you can count on, and when you're ready to come back, the game will be waiting.

I see the terms mixed around a lot (and this is the online PVP game that I play) so just to make sure I absolutely 100 percent understand and don't mislead anybody: What this game NORMALLY has is MMR, right? What BHVR tested for only about 5 days a couple of weeks ago was SBMM, and since they deactivated that we are now back in MMR, correct?
-
Disappearing forever. That would be a pretty impressive trick.
:P
-
I understand that everyone has had very different experiences with the game over the last few weeks. All I can say is that during the SBMM test I had the most pleasant time playing this game that I've had in the five months that I've owned it. I go for relatively relaxed, "enjoyably balanced" (as opposed to aggressively competitive) games and during those few days of the test, that's exactly what I got.
-
I look at it like this: Face camping isn't against the rules. But when I play as killer I see little reason to do it; not only does it incentivize the other survivors to just do gens, it also makes me feel like a jerk. The only time I've ever done it was when a survivor was being intentionally obnoxious and basically asking for it, and it got especially on my nerves.
As survivor? Face camping really sucks. It's really not all that fun to sit there NOT playing your game, especially when it took five or ten minutes to find a match or when getting the time to play the game is a luxury.
So I mean it's not against the rules, it doesn't make you a bad person. But it's basically ruining the other person's time and sending them away that much angrier for what amounts to really very little or no good reason.
Just how I see it anyway. Shrug
EDIT: I'm very tired, I apparently missed the bits about someone DCing (also jerky behavior) and the game reaching the EGC. When it's the EGC everyone's had a chance to play. Face camping isn't the same then. I misunderstood that you face camped as soon as you encountered a survivor that angered you.

i mean. technically.
Nemesis is also a tall boi...
True, but from the drawings and other stuff I've seen Slenderman is supposed to be like fifteen feet or something like that. I guess it depends on the person interpreting the character, he's supposed to change forms or something.
-
Just my opinion: Slenderman wouldn't work because the character is traditionally unnaturally tall and preys exclusively on children, because as popular as he is he's nonetheless just some random character that was made up by some random person on a cheesy horror fiction site.

To be honest, I've been playing Meg a lot recently. She grew on me a while ago before the model update and she's one of my favorites I like to play. I don't like to say I main a survivor anymore because I play so many of them but she's one of my favorites. Usually the Meg's in my games are rockstars. They usually get the killer to chase them for a good 2-3 gens. There have been some Meg's that hide, ignore teammates on hooks or wait for the team to die for hatch but I don't see it nearly as often as I do with Claudette's. The rockstar Meg's is what made me wanna play her tbh. Sounds dumb but it broke the stereotype for me and when I play Meg, I am already altruistic but I'll take on a chase if a survivor is on death hook and I have another hook state in me to spare.
As killer when I see a Meg I know one of 3 things is about to occur: 1) they're going to be great loopers. 2) They're about to be toxic as on the killer side I see them being toxic which hurts me personally. 3) They're newer players and easy pickings. I don't tunnel or go hard on newer players if I detect they babey
Tldr; I agree as a fellow Meg lover. I too also don't think she is ugly.
It's nice to hear that. I was just chatting about Meg with a friend in another thread. As we both observed, beauty is subjective, and I honestly don't know if it's my being a straight male, a male in his 40s, a longtime fan of ginger girls (Ygritte, hello) with a couple of previous ginger girlfriends or what, but I've always strongly championed Meg as a character who is, in my opinion, totally beautiful. My favorite cosmetic in the game is her Fortune Teller outfit and I honestly can't look at it and understand how anyone could find her ugly. She reminds me of Claire Danes from around the Romeo and Juliet years.
Beyond that though I just plain like her as a character and have never had any consistent issues with any other players who use her. I hear people talk about her representing poor or clueless / selfish players and I guess I just haven't seen it. "Rockstar Meg" is a good way to put it, if anything I'm seeing Megs going for saves, getting the exit gates, always on gens, doing loops. Meg is one of the most regularly played characters that I see and if anything my impression is that most people use her very well, not the other way around.
The most consistently "bad" survivors that I see (based on how well the people in my games tend to do with them) are Bill and Ash. The only characters I've come to expect toxic behavior from are Feng and, to a lesser extent, Steve. Meg? All I can say is that the people who hate her are apparently meeting entirely different people than I am; from what I've seen she wouldn't be anywhere near the top of any "bad" list.

You're welcome! I'm sorry to hear that that happened but am glad that it was a temporary issue and that it's in the past. It'd have been a shame to lose a positive and refreshing member from this community!
What do you think of Meg's redesign? How do you feel about her hair - I remember you were concerned about it losing its redness? It still looks pretty red for the most part in my opinion! And they kept her determined facial expression. I think Meg is one of the ones who fared better in the redesigns.
Oh gosh... Kate... I'm so glad that you have warmed up to Kate and are appreciating her. She's got an amazing backstory and some very nice outfits (especially from former Rifts). I'll be honest though I'm pretty heartbroken about her redesign. In fact I had a whole post about people changing their mains due to being unhappy with the redesign and saw my opinion of Kate echoed pretty far and wide. Beauty is obviously very subjective and I'm genuinely happy for those who like Kate as much or more with her redesign, I'm just deeply unhappy with it.
I've been focusing on Nea now. I moved her from P0 to P3 and am now just grinding for perks. I've also been seriously considering being a Meg main!
I appreciate that. I made a couple of unrelated comments that were meant to be completely innocuous but came across more poorly without the proper context. The mod I spoke to about it was polite enough to hear me out and get what I actually meant, but I also understood why my comments came across as offensive. It's cool, I agreed that it was ultimately on me to be more careful about how I phrase things. :)
Oh wow, I was SOOOOOOOOOOO upset about them changing Meg's hair! I have a special place for ginger gals because there are so few of them in this world, and they're so unfairly mocked for such beautiful uniqueness, and the color fits Meg's personality so well in my opinion, that I was honestly kind of shocked when the pre-release image made her look blond. I love blond hair, and dark hair, and basically any hair a woman may have, but Meg was a TOTAL redhead and it looked like they were taking away one of the distinguishing features that, to me at least, made her what she is. On a more specific level I was also kind of distraught that my favorite cosmetic in the entire game - Meg's "fortune teller" outfit, in which her hair is a blazing, deep red, was going to be totally different. I won't lie, as silly as it is to be this protective of a video game character I was nonetheless very relieved when it turned out that they kept her original hair color intact. I do think that one or two of the "triple braid" hairs are a little messed up, with the middle braid looking too poofy and messy, but beyond that I'm pretty happy. They also dirtied her midriff a bit in some of her outfits (like my aforementioned favorite one), which bugs me a little, but she's still the Meg I love. Same hair color, same expression, just like you said. I'm glad that she didn't get ruined.
I've totally thrown myself into Kate. I've spent probably close to $100 on cosmetics for these two ladies alone and I still don't even have all the ones that I want. As a straight man I find them both beautiful but I also love their determined personalities and unique sense of character. I'm just drawn to both of them. I tend to play with one or two characters in this game for a long while, trying out their perks and working them up to the point that they can share theirs and get my favorites from others, and then I move on to others. There aren't really any survivors that I DON'T like but after getting to Kate I quickly realized that she was my other favorite alongside Meg. I keep returning to these two time and time again. This last month I've been working on Jane, and because of the latest news I've fast-tracked Steve and Nancy, but I have the feeling that Meg and Kate will always be my special two. I want so much for a certain Kate cosmetic or two that I've seen in the past to finally become available, I don't know why they haven't shown up in the store yet.
Like Meg, I think that Nea gets a bad rap. Meg, Nea and Claudette seem to be the characters that a lot of people unfairly hate for some reason. I love Nea's cat-themed outfits (and was so happy to see Meg get a cat shirt this month, I grabbed it immediately) and her new blond hair. I think it fits her well even if the crazier hair suits her personality more. I like Nea's perks. I know people hate Urban Evasion users but I don't care, it's fun lol. Like with you I'm glad to hear that you're getting to enjoy new characters but I'm sad that Kate changed so much for you. Like you said, beauty is subjective, so I suppose I consider myself lucky that I never saw the huge worsening of Kate that many others did (probably BECAUSE I didn't main her and get super familiar with her beforehand). I still think she's ravishing, and don't find the negatively received changes to her to be as noticeable or dramatic as some other players do, but I totally understand the feeling. I mean again, I went nuts about something as simple as Meg's hair color. So while I definitely love Kate, yes, I definitely have sympathy for those who feel that they've lost her in a way.
-
It bothers me how many people seem to hate Meg for no reason. I see people call her ugly which I think couldn't be further from the truth. To each their own but I find her beautiful.
I also see a lot of people just casually dismiss her as useless, a noob player's choice of character, someone who always screws things up for the rest of the team, hides in lockers, ignores hook saves, etc etc etc. I really don't know how any of this got started - I'm admittedly biased because I DO like Meg so much (I like her feisty personality, her matching looks, her seemingly endless great cosmetics, her love of cats, etc.) - but even if I didn't like her, I still couldn't agree with the negative stereotype that seems to exist regarding her. In the half a year I've been playing I don't ever see anything consistently bad about Meg (or most characters for that matter).
-
Make Bond basekit. If that's too strong, make Kindred or Dark Sense basekit. Some basic situational awareness info would help to even out the solo survivor experience a little bit.

He is fine though. Yes, sometimes you won't be in a position to counter him. That is the case with every killer though. The problem with Wraith is so many people don't understand how to counter him.
No killer should require a litany of failsafes just to counter them. No one should HAVE to use Spine Chill, and play with headphones, and always have a flashlight, and carry around portable windows, and somehow make generators spawn next to specific tiles, and never find themselves having to leave cover or cross a deadzone, and be spinning the camera 360 degrees through the whole match (while also trying to somehow focus on gens and everything else) in order to stand a chance (while also ignoring any teammate who gets hooked as well). I can't think of any other killer in this game that's given the free pass that Wraith gets. No other killer that everyone just waves off with "It's not his fault that he's cheap, it's the player's fault that they don't understand how to defend against a killer that can turn invisible and shoot through the map at 150 percent silently and get free hits at will". I'm not trying to target all of this toward you, I'm just sick of The Wraith Defense altogether. "He's not super cheap, he's somewhere between perfect and terrible. Survivors are just easily confused and helpless".
The Wraith has basically the same ability as Spirit but with no cooldown and none of her hindrances. I honestly don't understand how people can so casually defend that as not even slightly problematic.

I have not gotten to play on the map enough to have an opinion, really. I see it maybe once every other week and I almost always seem to go against the Twins which is just a curb stomping for Survivors. 😅 Or it's Blight and that hurts just as badly.
I'd love to go against a variety of Killers on the map and really get a feel for it... That said, it's definitely getting the old Freddy treatment. The last few times I've loaded in there the Killer has instantly DC'd which is a shame.
Thank you! That's really nice of you to say. I was on a bit of an unintended break because of a few comments that I should have thought a little more about making, lol. I honestly figured that no one would care of even notice that I was gone but several people have welcomed me back and I really appreciate it. It's nice to know that I said anything worth remembering. :)
In the past month or so I've also become super addicted to playing Kate. Her cosmetics are just so fantastic. Meg may always be my ginger babygirl but Kate is amazing. Have you come to feel better about her redesign? I'm used to it now, I still think that she looks great. I hope that she wasn't destroyed for you.

It is very frustrating! I am definitely tired of the same ones. Very RARELY do we get to Ormond or the Swamp. It is usually what you stated. It sucks they don't give you the offerings back.. It is annoying..
To be fair I HAVE gotten more Ormonds than usual lately, which isn't really all that great for me because I don't like the map all that much. Haven't seen much of the Swamp though (which, I admit, I also don't like lol).
I wouldn't feel as much of a need for offerings if the map rotation was a lot more balanced than it currently is. It seems like I'll go two weeks without seeing one and then get it fifteen times a day when no one else is.
-
The only time I generally ever feel that the match is doomed from the start is when I recognize that the Wraith is the opponent. I'm not trying to beat a dead horse or start an argument, I'm seriously just being honest.
I won't DC but I take a long sigh, roll my eyes, and prepare for the next 5-10 minutes of my life to be wasted regardless of what happens. There's literally nothing in this game that I enjoy less.
-
Why is P3 Claudette no longer a viable stealth character? Did something dramatic change during the character remodel?
Try throwing the blond hair, white cat shirt, and zebra pants on Nea. Then play on Ormond. YOU won't even be able to see her. :P
-
It's frustrating that the map is still disabled. It would be nice if there was some kind of notice that remained up, in the game, at ALL times (or if they just gave you back the offering when you tried to play it). I love The Game, and I MISS The Game (as both sides) and I've been tired of getting various combinations of Coldwind, Macmillan and Crotus all week. So I ran the Gideon offering and went to Macmillan instead, lost the offering, no explanation given. That's kind of lame.
That said, I guess it's ultimately on me. Live and learn. Either way thank you guys for confirming this, I've asked about it a couple of times since I lost the offering and no one answered. I haven't seen The Game, Dead Dawg or Hawkins in forever (the last of which I obviously have limited time with).
-
In before someone says "he's fine" / "he's low B-tier" / "people just hate him now because he's not the worst killer in the game anymore" or something to that effect.
Honest talk: The Wraith has a lot of powers that are, on their own, reasonably advantageous. When put together, and then buffed, and then given even greater buffs through the form of add-ons, it becomes a little much. People say to "always be by a window". You can't always be by a window. People say "always bring a flashlight or run Spine Chill". Not everyone wants to do those things JUST in case they happen to encounter one specific killer. People say "play with headphones". It's not convenient or practical to always play this game with headphones. People say "just run to the nearest loop". The Wraith doesn't just hang out next to tiles waiting to be looped all day.
I'm not trying to be antagonistic or anything. I recognize that people provide suggestions like these in good faith. But what I think a lot of people don't understand is that if a survivor has to do any or all of these things just to have a decent chance against a killer who can rush up while invisible, uncloak, perform a super lunge for a free hit, then immediately recloak to catch right back up and do it a second time for the down, then I think it's a fair argument that it's the killer itself, not those who complain against him, that need closer inspection.
I'm not saying to totally nerf. I'm saying that maybe some of his powers can be reduced a bit, maybe given a cooldown, etc. His defenders need to understand that playing against the Wraith these days (especially in solo) basically boils down to "get rushed, give him the free hit, get rushed again, then wait to die on the hook while he invisibly camps nearby and / or does the exact same thing to the next person". I think the common argument that "he's still bad because he's just an M1 killer" deliberately overlooks the actual problems that people have when trying to deal with him.

I think its because her cosmetics are generally darker and on top of that she's a smaller survivor.
It's interesting that you say that because that's actually kind of what threw me - I figured okay, without bringing race into it, yes, I can understand that a character with darker skin will more naturally blend in with darker environments. But really, aside from her main outfit, I never had the opinion that her clothes were really all that dark. So I didn't really understand the "Blendette" argument. In fact, I'd actually use her more as I like several of her cosmetics a lot but they scream "I AM A GLOWING, GLITTERING TARGET, PLEASE KILL ME FIRST", lol.
-
I like the map. I wish I'd get it more than once a month.
Speaking of which has anyone seen The Game or Hawkins? I know that the latter will be gone soon and the former was rumored to have been deactivated a few weeks ago. I never see them anymore. It's almost exclusively Macmillan, Coldwind, and a huge uptick in Ormond and the Asylum / Chapel.

Flexing purposes, perk roulette, and your bf telling you he's found a new perk combo he wants to try so you have to change your build to match because that's just the polite thing to do
Well it was more of a rhetorical question but yeah, I suppose I can understand some of those reasons. Perk roulette sounds cool.
-
I'm 600 hours in. I don't WANT all the perks unlocked, lol. What's the point of making it that much harder for me to get my preferred perks on all of my characters?
Still, impressive.
-
My opponents are, and have pretty much always been (barring the disagreeable Trickster release month): Ghostface, Wraith, Ghostface, Ghostface, Ghostface, Wraith, Ghostface, Spirit, Wraith, Spirit, Wraith, Legion, Spirit, Spirit, Michael, Wraith, Wraith, Ghostface, and Wraith. A few Clowns lately as well but I expect that to end in a month for some reason.
Who's "Blight"?
-
I always heard that people hated Claudette because she blends in too easily with the rest of her surroundings. Because she's black I guess? I don't know, I never hear anyone say the same thing about Tapp.
I like Claudette, I think she comes with one of the more solid perk sets. And anyone can blend into tall grass or bushes if they wear dark outfits, especially if they've prestiged as well. I've never had any issue with her as killer, the only female character that I seem to get regular attitude from is Feng.

I’m not saying that term applies to everybody. I think it’s appropriate when people who are genuinely suffering from optimization issues still continue to support a product that they can’t utilize at an acceptable level.
I’m on next gen, so I have no issues and don’t mind spending on new content… but if I was still on last gen I would definitely cease playing. Even months ago (talking December 2020 and before) the issues with stuff like Dead Hard freezing the game and frame drops was there.
Well, not everyone looks at things the same way or has the same degree of problems with their game, but generally speaking, yes, if I were one of the people whose game was affected by problems that it made it unplayable or otherwise not fun to play then I would also refrain from spending more money on it until it was fixed (with unexpected things like the ST being pulled being a rare exception).

Ah,that's what you were trying to explain with your example.Well, that isn't exactly anything knew either right? It should be obvious that the higher ups at BHVR don't want to adress the optimization issues properly or else we would have gotten more info already.
We know that the company is aware of the issues, we know that the issues don't reflect well on the company or incentivize potential new customers to climb aboard, so it's reasonable to assume that the company doesn't LIKE that there are issues. It is, therefore, also reasonable to assume that the company is being honest when they say that they're looking into the issues and trying to figure out a way to fix them that won't ruin the game.
I absolutely disagree with that.Yes,BHVR knows about the optimization issues, but i don't see ANY noticeable effort on their part to fix it.
FPS and screen freeze triggers have been a known issues for years. They didn't fix anything important regarding Optimization. They actually made it WAY worse with the introduction of the Resident Evil chapter.
If BHVR really cared about opzimization and their playerbase then they would have decided to delay the chapter until it's actually ready to release. But they didn't do it and pushed it out regardless, which clearly tells us that this company cares more about the money they make than delivering a good product to their playerbase that they can actually be proud of.
If BHVR doesn't release content as people expect them to, and that they've announced they will, people will be angry.
Yes,some people will always be angry. No matter what BHVR does, that's obvious. However i assume that the majority of the community (at least the reasonable part) will be ok with delayed content as long as it will release without major bugs/performance issues.
I'm not saying that the company can't do anything more, or anything differently, but they're going to be raked over the coals no matter what - which, as I described earlier, I've been on both sides on before.
They definetely could. It's been 2 years since BHVR stated their aim to improve optimization,so surely their should be some progress so far, right? But nope, there's 0 progress on their side, they made it even worse than before.
Performance has been a huge issues for years so i would say that we as a community deserve to get a decent explanation as to why things are the was they currently are. They did it with hitboxes and latency,so why shouldn't they do the same thing for optimization?
Well, ask yourself these questions:
- Is BHVR aware of the issues?
- Would it be in their best interest to fix them?
- Were they being honest when they said that they were trying?
If the answers all lead to "yes", but they haven't yet been able to fix anything yet, what could they say that would satisfy anybody? People want results, not comments like "we're aware of the issue and we're working on it", but if that's all that they have right now, what more could they say?
-
I like indoor maps AND the RCPD.

This game has a very negative, argumentative community. I don't necessarily even think that it's the fault of the people (and I"m not saying that everyone here matches the description), I just think that the nature of the game is bound to have people arguing. In a game built around two parties facing off against each other, with a million types of players and a thousand different ways of playing, all with different opinions on what constitutes things like "fun", "fair", "balanced", and "winning", it's rare that anyone's going to reach a consensus on anything.
That said, I do wish that we could all chill out and be more accepting of each other and other people's opinions. But then I feel that about humanity as a whole too, and that ain't gonna happen.

While I certainly understand where you're coming from, the difference here is that Behavior has a track record of making announcements and not following up on it. Console optimization is something they announced 3 years ago, and not only has it still not seen the light of day, but they don't even mention it. It's like they're pretending that announcement never happened.
Just recently the developer update mentioned that there would be an offline bot mode with the mid chapter, which never materialized, and there's still no word as to why. They give us the impression that they would prefer to sweep these matters under the rug. While that may not be the case, it's left their community grasping at straws.
I understand, and I sympathize. For what it's worth though, none of this is unusual to me. It really isn't. I know that you guys can't specifically relate but please try to trust me when I say that the exact same kind of distrust and negativity toward the developer is something I went through for years at THQ. I could list so many examples of games that were even worse than this - outright crashes, freezes that required hard resets of the console itself, downloaded content that disappeared, saved games being deleted and progress being lost, preorder bonus content not being available on release day as promised, performance being better on the 360 (the native development console) than the PS3, etc. I saw just about every poor performance issue you could imagine, coupled with just about every type of response - some followed up on, some never addressed again - with a constant flow of anger, complaints, negativity, begging (and yes, petitions) and the requisite handful of "the game's working fine for me" in between.
I don't say any of this to tell you guys not to be upset. I'm with you. The game should be equally playable on all systems, period, and this is not a problem that should take two months let alone three years to fix. I just want you all to understand that this honestly isn't a BHVR problem, it's a "state of the modern gaming industry" problem.

If they cared, there shouldn't be a need for a petition.
People can make petitions for anything, that's out of BHVR's control.

Your example doesn't really work here. It's obvious that those people can't talk about upcoming content.
But we are talking about optimization issues here. There's absolutely no good reason not to update us on their progress on these issues or at least give us a basic explanation as to why it takes several years to fix it
My example was just to make a point, the point being that there are plenty of times when the first line of communication between yourself and a game developer would be more than happy to share information with you but is not allowed to. I've been involved in that situation as well and it's the exact same thing. The people who are appointed to act as community managers, public relations directors, etc., are often more or less go-betweens that don't have the authority to make grand declarations regarding something like major bugfixes or when to expect them. That's not a slam against the people in those positions but rather a reiteration of the fact that these decisions are made on the high end, and those people generally tend to feel that it's in everyone's best interest not to share more information until it's ready to be shared.
The fact that they release content in the meantime doesn't necessarily indicate anything, as companies have different departments with different budgets, deadlines and contractual obligations.
If BHVR doesn't release content as people expect them to, and that they've announced they will, people will be angry. If they release said content, people will assume that they don't care about more important issues and will be angry. If they give a date when to expect all issues to be resolved and it doesn't happen, people will be angry. If they say nothing, people will be angry. I'm not saying that the company can't do anything more, or anything differently, but they're going to be raked over the coals no matter what - which, as I described earlier, I've been on both sides on before. I can speak from experience when I say that it's normal to acknowledge problems and promise that they're being looked into. But for them to say more - especially when there isn't necessarily anything more to report - is pointless. I'm not trying to take sides, I'm trying to help provide some perspective.

I do not care if you are on a gen, I need the killer to go after you instead because you could probably actually loop him. If not, I will honor your work and finish your gen for you. That is just the type of nice and humble survivor I am.
This actually brings up a legitimate point that I forgot to address: I can't loop. I can't loop for #########. I have tried, and tried, and tried, and TRIED. I've had a friend try to show me how to "learn the tiles". I've watched some videos. Maybe I'll get there eventually, but I'm not there yet. I try to do what I see everyone else do (including juking, spinning backwards at the last second, etc.) and it doesn't matter. It works for others, it does not work for me. I say all the time that I DESPISE looping in this game, and it's just because I think it's lame that so much of the game revolves around the practice (which I do). It's also because, as hard as I try, I do not seem to be very effective at it. Maybe by 1000 hours I will be. At 600, no.
So, despite my attempts, I know that as soon as the killer starts taking off towards me I'm pretty much guaranteed to go down. For better or worse that's sometimes going to have a bearing on whether or not I try to get him or her to chase someone else, since so many other people seem to have this looping thing down.

I really, genuinely feel for the people who are penalized for having unintentional DCs. I can personally confirm that it's happened to one of my own friends, right during one of our games, and it was both random, unexplained, and unfair. It sucks. I know it sucks.
But the DC penalty is a necessary evil. Just as I saw what happened to my friend, I saw way, way, WAY more examples of people abusing the lack of DC penalties when they were turned off. As bad as I feel saying this, and as crummy as it is to have to say, I'd rather hear about one or two people per day reporting an unfair DC than see three dozen intentional DCs in the same amount of time.

What's really sad is that a lot of the frustration would cease to exist if behavior was more open with its community. The color-blind optimization is a perfect example of that. Why do complaints have to reach a fever pitch before anything gets mentioned?
I'm conflicted about that. On one hand you're right - I've seen examples where the company definitely could have benefited by being more transparent. At the same time the attitude that most people here have is the same attitude that most people had toward THQ when I was a member of their forums during the early 2010s. So on one hand, unfortunately, the level of (or lack of) direct interaction and clear answers from BHVR is, for better or worse, not unique. At the same time, having eventually been invited to do some work for THQ during that time, I also saw things from their perspective. A lot of times they wanted to be more clear, answer more questions, provide specific dates, etc., but doing so would either wind up blowing up in their face and making things worse OR there was someone over them - CEOs and so forth - who dictated what they could and couldn't say.
There was, for an example, an event in 2013 during which the upcoming WWE game from THQ / 2K Games was going to feature a famous old wrestler, "The Ultimate Warrior". I and the other people privy to this information were absolutely forbidden by way of NDA and full threat of legal action if we so much as hinted that we knew that the character was going to be included. When discussing this with the people directly above me, they openly admitted that they thought that the secrecy was stupid, that they were excited and would have been quite happy to share the excitement with the fans who they knew would also be excited, but they were nonetheless just as forbidden from sharing this information - not even by THEIR superiors, but by their superiors' superiors.
So I guess I'm saying is that I feel you. But try to understand that this is actually pretty common practice. In the end it's all business, and usually the people at the programming and PR level are the ones who are in agreement with you.

If its the blue bar under the rift rewards that goes 1-70, thats the tier level you need to be to unlock that specific reward.
If its the rift fragments under the charm for completing a level in the tome - thats an amount of rift fragments you get for completing that level. Some tome levels have multiple routes you can take and can finish in different areas but you can only get that reward once - even if you get to all ends of the same tome level.
I was referring to the number of fragments listed directly under the charm, yes. Thank you for the answer.

The point is to get salt. They just want a reaction out of people. Same as TF2 bot hosts.
I don't get that either. I'm not going to call these people sociopaths (that's gotten me in a bit of trouble before, lol) so I'll just say that I simply can't put myself in the mindset of someone who finds joy in making other people feel worse. That doesn't sound like a happy way of life.

I’m not asking 100,000 players to stop playing. There’s not even that many with the issues discussed in this thread.
I’m merely pointing out that the sheep continue to play this game and feed money into DBD (cosmetics and new chapters) as if nothing is wrong, so of course the company’s priority will be to focus on whatever is generating them money - it’s just business. Fixing performance on last gen consoles is definitely not their priority, and if you don’t agree well then enjoy the shill life.
It's a rude generalization to call people who support the game sheep. I put money into cosmetics because I like the game and sometimes have the money to support my purchase with more things to increase my enjoyment of it. I don't blindly support something just because it's in front of me, I give my money to those who provide me with something that I enjoy.
That said, I feel greatly for console players. I spent my life as a console player. If I somehow felt that my own individual lack of cosmetic purchases or objective and open-minded discussion of both the cons AND the pros of the game in public venues would in any way effect the developer's ability to resolve all technical problems, I'd consider it. Sadly it doesn't work that way.
Otz isn't going to save the world. Neither am I. Neither is anyone here. The best we can do is continue to communicate to the developers that this is a problem, and do so in a firm but unthreatening manner, because nothing else is going to work. Petitions aren't going to work because they're just that, petitions. They're meant to make people aware of grievances and the desire for change, and BHVR is already well-aware. Not buying cosmetics isn't going to work because for every single person on this forum who ups and stops doing so, there are 10,000 other players who will continue.
We need to be patient, we need to be mature, and we need to continue letting the company know of our frustrations. I don't mean to be negative or place blame on anybody with this next part either, but it would also help if the community, as a whole, stopped complaining about virtually everything having to do with this game. If the company spent any significant time on this forum they'd see that NOTHING they do makes everyone happy, so how are they to differentiate the legitimate complaints from the exaggerated ones?

I can think of other things that, reasonably speaking, should be fairly well agreed upon, but to the point: Is there anyone out there who does NOT think that this game has excellent sound design?

I have literally ended up shouting "FFS, RUN BOND OR SOMETHING YOU IDIOT" at my screen so much because of survivors like this 😂
I even tried running better together so that they know that gen is being worked on. They still led the killer to the gen....😑
Run bond people.
Bond is honestly a profoundly awesome perk. I can't believe that it's not considered god-tier. It is SO useful to be able to see where your teammates are, halfway across the map, as well as which ones are healing, running, being attacked, looping, or doing gens. So much information for just one perk.
Then again I hope it DOESN'T start getting considered god-tier because then some content creator will say it's OP and the next hour everyone will be begging for it to be nerfed.

"Are all killers tunnelers"?
Yes.
-
Tips on getting to red rank 1 as solo survivor:
- Throw the game out the window and find something more productive and less infuriating to do
-
If I may ask this as well (don't mean to derail this thread, feel free to ignore this as soon as it's answered or even whether it gets answered at all): Directly under the rift reward is a separate little window that shows a certain amount of rift fragments. Is that the number of fragments you get upon completing that page of the rift or does it mean something else?

Never understood the (sexual) fascination with video game characters. Is everyone just being sarcastic and I’m missing the joke?
Some people don't get it and that's fine, to each their own. Some people also talk about characters in this game being hot for the meme / joke / camaraderie potential.
I've always taken notice of video game characters that are made to appear attractive and resemble what I find attractive on real women. To me it's no different than finding a woman in a painting or even simple illustration attractive. My belief is that a woman doesn't have to be a living, breathing person to have features that I find visually pleasant.
Look at it this way: Picture the celebrity that you find most attractive. Imagine that someone took a really nice photo of them. They look incredibly sexy in that photo. Now imagine that a great artist (professional, amateur, whichever) creates a painting based on that picture. We're getting further and further away from the actual human being, but they still have the features that you find attractive, you know?
-
Joking aside I think that Amanda is the hottest killer. Shawnee Smith is legitimately beautiful. I wish so much that we could get a version of her without the mask.
-
I honestly would just prefer that the DC system remains as is, and that BHVR sorts out unintentional disconnects. I know that this is an ideal scenario, but that's also why it's the one that we should have.
-
I always run Bond (it's my one absolute go-to perk, I go out of my way to avoid playing any characters that don't have it yet) so I do avoid people that I can see working on gens but I HAVE occasionally led the killer towards someone who wasn't, yes. It's a cheap play and I don't feel good doing it but if I can tell that it's the difference between my death and someone else's first hook, it's something I need to weigh when someone's bearing down on me. I also know that most survivors use the so-called "crutch" perks whereas almost all of my perks are information-based, so I'm almost always going to be the weakest member of the team in terms of a direct chase. Does that make it okay? No, not necessarily, but I'm not playing to sandbag anybody, I'm just forced to make the occasional sacrifice for the overall longevity of the team. You can be guaranteed that if the other person gets hooked, I'm gonna be right there to pop back up and rescue them.
I know, it's kind of a sleazy play. I try not to do it unless it feels like the game will go south for us if I don't. Even then it's rare, I don't like playing cheap.

They asked you for $2? They asked me for $11. I did not oblige.
Petitions are relatively meaningless, the majority of the human population is under no obligation to agree to or even pay attention to them, and I question why anyone who starts one would need someone else's money.
-
Why should Otz' opinion carry more weight than anyone else's? There have probably been hundreds of people right here on this forum who have been extremely vocal about console performance issues. Last I checked Pulsar has a thread about the subject that's like 2,000 pages long or something. So that should account for nothing but as soon as a popular "content creator" mentions the same subject then the world should suddenly stop and listen? If so that's a really sad state of affairs.
I'm 100 percent on the side of you poor console players who aren't allowed the same relatively consistent performance that PC players enjoy. I just hope that it doesn't take the apparent perception of a "Youtube personality" as some kind of authority figure to get something done about it.
-
This may be anecdotal but I've found that playing as killer takes a lot longer to become (fairly) consistently enjoyable than playing as survivor. Most killers who aren't Wraith take a decent amount of time and practice to become effective with, and even then when you've found the one (or two, or what have you) that you feel good with, and can get some kills with, you still need a lot of practice to learn not only map layouts but also survivor behaviors - especially those damn sweaty survivor squads that pretty much all of us hate.
In my experience (American Midwest), sunup to sundown is basically survivor time. The queues go quickly. An hour or so after sundown is when survivor queues start drying up and you get into games much faster by playing as killer. The games are usually okay. But the closer you get to the middle of the night, the more sweaty the survivors tend to get. Then sunup nears, and it's back to being a survivor game.
I'd say to try to focus on one killer, finding the one you feel most confident with, and try to play when survivor queues start to be faster but it's not yet Sweat Squad Hour.
