I’ve only read portions of your paragraphs, no offense, I just don’t feel like reading right now, but what I am gathering from all this, you’re saying voice comms are unfair, correct?

I’m gonna start by saying to get used to it, because third party softwares aren’t going anywhere. Yes, it’s unfair but if you’re really adept at killer, you can still destroy a team of SWF.

People exaggerate about SWF all the time, 90% of the time, all we SWF players do is talk about we had for dinner last night, we don’t sit up talking like an organized swat group saying what try hard perks we’re gonna run to try and dominate the killer...

Toxic swf will screw themselves over most of the time. All you need to do is slug 1 survivor and they will be circling their teammate like moths around the flame..

These two comments illustrate to me why these groups become toxic. People get all personal, talkin about real life before the match starts and then they're all like "NOOOO don't hit cassandra! she had a hard day today! she spilt coffee on her new blouse!!"

looks a bit complicated for not much honestly

I think the explanation of it can appear complicated because I'm trying to clearly define the circumstances for multiple cases, but once implemented it wouldn't be that complicated. I'm sure this can be described more succinctly but I've never been good at that.

Ultimately I sometimes want to play against more difficult groups of players, as the regular groups tend to become predictable and boring. I've also heard that people who make it to rank one early on in the season have to deal with long queue times. This might not be the best way to resolve that, but oh well.

  • It's kind of hard to see how powerful survivors can be when you are playing with randoms, but there's so much strength in numbers. Almost any survivor would change their mind about tunneling/camping being unfair if they played a killer to rank 5 or so. Play one to rank 1 to really drive the point home.

Without tunneling we would have to cycle each player, and considering that the average match above rank 10 has 1-3 gens done by the time the first person is downed, there would be almost no way to win the game for the killer.

  • It might be worth it to read the lore pages on deadbydaylight.com, there's a bit to read. Also, I don't think the guy reading vigo's notes died, hes walking away at the end of the third cutscene, and like other's have said, he might be a killer. In one of Vigo's quotes, somewhere in the game, he says that not all killers enjoy being killers. So, maybe the entity finding this guy means that he's going to suffer whichever fate the entity chooses for him? To be a survivor, or a killer? Either way, it's not good :3

  • It would be nice to see that changed, but I think whispers is already fairly powerful. It's a perk I rarely play without because it saves me so much time by reducing the amount of time I spend looking in areas where there are no survivors. I mean, as soon as the perk icon dims, I know I'm going the wrong direction. Also, I don't have to run to the edges of the level to check for survivors, unless whispers is active.

First off, what the fck kind of a response is this to someone who takes the time to reply to you?

Secondly, if you think whispers is only useful for finding people who are hiding, then you're placing limitations on the scope of his solution due to your own perspective, probably informed by a complete lack of experience in using whispers. To be frank, you aren't going to find a solution to your problem that doesn't require compromises. But honestly, you wouldn't be making a very big compromise, because at level 3 whispers is one of the most underrated perks available to killers.

That's some legit lag switching; he lags the perfect amount of time at just the right times.

lol @ the meg floating around like the nurse.

  • If they removed, or combined some add-ons/offerings, then they would probably need to make everything cost more BP to maintain the balance provided by the bloodweb. Killers would be too powerful if they always had access to the best addons/offerings, and 'useless' or common addons keep that in check while giving you 'something'.

LF chainsaw is much, much easier to hit then billy's. 360 jukes are pretty much suicide.

Also, Billy moves the same speed as a survivor running, when he's revving the chainsaw. And 230% onces the sprint activates. This means billy has to get close and rev up and hit a skillshot that's broadcasted.

LF has to do the same, but it's easier to hit. But then, why is LF so bad?

Cause he can't zip around the map and pressure gens like Billy. it makes him harder to play.

Unfortunately, that's only true if Leatherface can reach his target. Without beasts marks and carburetor tuning guide (or maybe purple chili), leatherface cannot connect with the chainsaw during a chase unless the surv slows down somehow. Otherwise, timing the chainsaw during a specific event has to be impeccable, like say when cutting off a vaulting survivor during a loop. Even then it's hard, because LF slows down while charging his chainsaw. Honestly, I've had many trials where it simply didn't make sense to use the chainsaw at all.

Whereas with Billy, I connect all the time, and sometimes even on accident as I bolt around the map.

Now, someone might argue that LF can hit multiple targets, which averages things out, but it doesn't happen enough, especially after rank 6 or 7. I got to rank 4, and I just couldn't get him any higher once I ran out of beasts marks and tuning guides, which I had saved up since level 1. In those ranks, survivors don't vault into the killer during a loop nearly as often, and they seem to think every LF camps, so they don't rescue hooked survs until their timer is almost up. Oh, also, I can't tell you how many times I've chainsawed two survs during a hook rescue, and the rescuing surv has DS and borrowed time. So the rescued surv takes off, and I'm left wondering if I want to chance the rescuer landing his DS skillcheck.

I got Leatherface to Prestige 3 level 50 first hoping that I would get Beasts Marks and Carburetor tuning guide more often... but there's not much difference. Hell, I would even be ok with just being able to prestige forever, except maybe, let us take 4 of our current perks with us to the next prestige, after prestige 3. Something... Because, I see the new 40-60k BP bloodweb at level 50 with nothing but junk and I'm just like.. awh mayunn.

I disagree, prestiging should be a "pain" because you dont have the best perks.
But what has to change is that there is no reward to that.

Yeah, you're right. I'm just not sure what would be fair. I like your idea of their not being anymore common items.

  • So baffled by this post; at first I figured this might have something to do with affiliate marketing. XD

  • I play on PS4 and sometimes when I'm playing as a survivor I will get a party invite from someone who is in the lobby with me. I imagine if I had the PS app on my phone I could easily join an SWF party with a bluetooth headset. It sucks, but the devs can't control what people do outside of the game.

The best way that I have found to counter it is to be equally obnoxious. Consider that they're highly organized (some are anyways), each person will have a role to fill. Choose the role which you think is most integral to them achieving their objectives and tunnel the fck out of them. I always go after the person with the tool box, and I always avoid chasing the people with flashlights.

  • You should check out the post @Orion responded to, regarding a similar question. He did a good job of explaining the ins and outs of how this is calculated. I don't have a link on me, unfortunately.

  • The killer simply recognizes that it takes longer to blind someone with a flashlight than it does to drop the survivor, and sure it's advantageous for him to do so, considering the alternative. But it's no more an advantage in that moment than it is in any other moment when dropping a survivor, he still has to pick the survivor up again, who will be able to wiggle free more quickly, now.

I think you're confusing this for being an exploit because previously, before killer's knew better, survivors could easily blind the killer during the pick-up animation, to the point of a drop seeming guaranteed. But that's the thing, you aren't guaranteed that the killer will drop your survivor friend if you shine a flashlight in their face, but you have a great opportunity to try to. All you would need to do is have better flashlight add-ons and this 'exploit' doesn't work.

  • If I am really just kicking a whole lot of ass, and no one's annoyed me, then I tend to feel some strange sense of guilt. The other night I actually brought a surv to the hatch after downing em and dropped em off.

  • @Blueberry said:
The longer queue's seem to have come back for me again.

Me too. I figure that some people simply ignore the news page, so they aren't going to know that they can go back to playing survivor for a few days.

  • He's said in the past that he plays console. Also, I don't know if he is a killer main, but I dont experience much fps issues as killer. Maybe some weird lag spikes when I get right next to a player. However, I notice that I experience a ton of fps issues when I play late at night as a survivor; i always think the killer (host) is overseas or something.

What sucks about the P2P model is that not a lot of people have their routers optimized for these kinds of interactions. It doesn't help that ISPs often like to throttle P2P traffic.

As a side note, a lot of players might be taking a break after grinding out the costumes. I know that I've been burning out a bit trying to get all of my vials.

  • Oh man...! I didn't realize vials I earn with survivors could be used for killer cosmetics. In that case, Upper: wraith, billy, doc; lower: wraith, billy, huntress.

  • I like this question. Although, I don't know if this can provide an absolute solution for every loop, given that each loop can vary by the number of corners and edges they have. I might not be understanding this correctly, but could the difference between the survivor and the killer's collision box give you an estimate, per corner within a given loop, assuming they follow the perimeter?

  • I must be really bad at the game. I'm averaging one vial every half hour. I can get a good run going, but then I get a string of match-ups where the survs seem to be perfectly balanced in perk distribution and coordination.

Like, if I am chasing someone, land a hit, they will break the line of sight, and someone new will be taunting me, which I come to realize is the obsession who is running DS(I really wish it were easier to tell who the obsession is on PS4). Or, when I down the surv I was originally after, I get bombarded by flashlights, or body blocked at the hook. I've also noticed that if I let a chase go on too long, the surv has been leading me away from the action, it's like "finally downed em, where's that hook? ah #########, all the event hooks are on one side of the map. damnit."

I've been playing dead by daylight since May of 2018 and mostly killer at that but ever since I started no matter what I do if someone is good at 360'ing I cannot hit them without missing at least 5 times. At this point I think I'm just ######### in some way.

360ing is taking advantage of the lag between killer and survivor. Anticipate and hold back when you Lunge or don't lunge, just quick attack. most of the time, you will hit them.

You don't know what you are talking about, high ping or lag only hurts the survivor, the killer as the host decides everything, if survivors didn't always have to play with the added delays then it would be easier to juke, well it would solve some of the problem, the very inaccurate hitboxes doesn't make things visually easier to understand.

If you miss that much you are not very good. It's quite simple, practice more and you will get better, since killers can also 360 and hit in a very large circle, all you really have to do is follow their movement, they 360 you move the same direction, you can't just click attack and hope the game is going to auto aim for you, even if you are used to that on console!

They weren't talking about latency or Ping they were referring to FPS.

On console there is a distinct, well known, and obvious FPS difference between Killers and Survivors. Killers have a lower, and often fluctuating FPS. 360ing is one of the ways that Survivors can use and abuse this to cause Killer's games to visually lag and jump. I do not think this is as noticeable, or is even a thing, on PC.

Anyway on topic: If they are doing a 360 you should be able to get them with a normal swing, a lunge will just make you miss. It won't always land but it is the most accurate option.

#########, I never realized that. But, that would explain why in some of my videos survivors will disappear when they get close enough. Usually, I see a frame of the bottom of their nose reaching the bottom of the screen, after that they disappear until I spin after them. But, now I wonder how long it actually takes them to come back into the frame.

  • I was thinking about something similar today. Well, I was thinking about this event in particular; if I average one vial every half hour, that's roughly 5 hours of work for a single cosmetic piece, which could be viewed as earning $2 per hour when you think about simply buying it instead. It really outrages me to think about things in these terms.

That frustration only gets worse when I think about the potential costs of DLCs, because the DLCs give us more content and improves the gaming experience overall. Cosmetics don't even come close to being as important.

BUT... as frustrating as it is to think of things in these terms, it's not the whole picture. These prices are only for a limited time, and with the right amount of patience, we can buy the DLC contents with iridescent shards later on, which is pretty fair.

As a side note, you might find this article promising for the future of video gaming. I know I did.

  • @mellojay said:
I don't think you get it apropos. This event has added a new feature that survivors HAVE to do in order to collect vials necessary to get event clothes. All the killer has to do is play the game normally and they will get their vials filled, but for survivors there is the flowers they have to collect plus the gens and if the killer has a hex they have to get totems too. The survivors are multitasking way more than a killer does and with the new patch it takes even more time for them to complete them. So no, you can't compare this to a regular game of DbD, as this new event has skewed everything into the Killer's favor. The devs should have made it like the events before with event generators.

No, I get it. But, you're wrong. I've played about 4 games as survivor and 4 as killer, and what I've found is that both are difficult. However, I'm having more trouble getting serum as the killer, because I can't control the placement of the hooks, and I can't control where the survivors run to. If they run too far from the hooks, and I down them, it's unlikely I can carry them that far. Not to mention, the survivors really seem to be getting off on body blocking the event hooks.

What's sort of worse, though, is that as a survivor, 2 of the games that I played had survivors working with the killer. I was downed, hooked and unhooked in front of the killer each time, while the survivor who was unhooking me just nodded up and down. The killer didn't go after them - pretty ######### too, because I was the only one who had burnt an offering and I had a full vial.

My survivor experience has led me to believe what I've always thought; there are some really ######### people that play as survivors who don't care about ruining the experience for everyone else.

  • I lose all of the time as a killer (especially as Leatherface) and I have more than half of the killers at 50; one prestige III, two prestige II. This is true even at rank 10, but I've been as high as rank 2. The only time I strong as a killer is when I'm playing hillbilly on an open map and playing him effectively can be really hard against survivors that can juke well.

I can appreciate your perspective, because playing as the killer requires you to tolerate hardship. But, correct me if I'm wrong, it seems like you're mad that you're going to have to work harder to get what you want. The situation you're describing sounds like playing a killer on a normal day; personally, I am usually downing a survivor or hooking them by the time one gen pops. By the time a I hook a second survivor there are usually 3 or less gens, and in the worst case, one gen left. Granted hillybilly and the nurse are a different story.

  • @brokedownpalace said:
I repeat: this has nothing to do specifically with the EVENT POINT GAIN. If the both survivor and killer gained event points at the same or similar rates, killers would still get more because of their usual BP advantage.

People might be misunderstanding you because of your pronoun usage... it took me a while to understand what you mean by 'this'. Assuming I understand your position, you're saying that the modifiers for bonus bloodpoints should be adjusted for survivors so that they are getting the same amount of BPs?

If that is your point, then how would you justify not giving the killers those additional blood points?

As an example, say that at the end of a trial, one survivor has a score of 10k BP earned before any bonus modifiers are applied; and likewise for a killer that earned 20k BP. If you grant both the survivor and the killer a modifier of 100% bonus points, the survivor would net 20k and the killer 40k. However, per your suggestion, if the bonus modifier is adjusted so that survivors get 40k like the killer, the survivor would be receiving a bonus modifier of 300%. Why would it be fair to give survivors a 300% bonus modifier, but not the killer?

Sometimes it seems like people think that any company that makes games is as big as activision or EA, but that's not the case anymore. A lot of the money game development companies make is put back into the game that generated it. Granted not all of it, but a lot of it. So whenever you buy something from them, know that it goes towards making the game better.

Killers regularly getting 50k+ and the most I've seen any survivor get is 26k. Usually it's 15-20k lol.

I understand killers don't need any secondary objectives but they could have made survivors be able to get a decent amount of BP.

Survivors keep their stuff, killers lose their stuff.

Survivors need to appreciate what this means. Every time a killer decides to use add-ons and an offering (silly not to) they are essentially spending the cost of those addons on the match. So, every match a killer can spend anywhere between 0-21k in BPs on add-ons and an offering. We don't get those back. I'd say the average BP spent per match for a killer is 15k.

Another thing, y'all survivors don't only get to keep items, but you guys can get items from within the level and leave with em! Got a purple tool kit within the trial and left with it? thats 6k BP gained.

So, being a new player, should I learn the Survivor side before trying to go Killer-main? So far, starting with Killer, I damn near walked away from this game for good yesterday. Right now, I'm sitting very much on the fence. But trying to play Killer as a brand new player . . . well . . . suddenly the issues I left Overwatch over didn't seem to matter much anymore, and I was prepared to just head on back.

Advice other's have provided is good. But personally, I initially played as a survivor, but moved to a killer almost right away because I was literally too effing terrified to move when I played as a survivor, lol.

However, when I revisited survivor and tried to replicate what survivors did to get away from me when I was the killer, it wasn't scary anymore. The killers are pretty blind, so at times all one needs to do to escape is crouch and circle an object like a tree or bush. It even works in the middle of a chase at times. The field of view for killers is just tiny.

Honestly I think pallet looping can't be really "fixed", it's just a part of the game. It can only be made more tolerable with map adjustments as devs are doing. Pallet looping wouldn't even be a problem if gens weren't popping all around the place.

Yeah, I don't really understand how gen rushing is seen as being any different than camping by killers. Survivors don't like camping because it prevents them from being able to 'have fun' but gen rushing has the same effect on the killer that camping does on the survivor. Maybe they should increase the number of skill checks survivors get when they aren't around other survivors.

That would make experienced survivors repair even faster thanks to great skillchecks.

lol, d'oh. I've only gotten a survivor to level 15 so I'm still feeling pretty good about my ability to even pass skill checks, much less get great ones. Do survivors regularly get great skill checks when they appear at random places on the screen, like at madness level 2/3?

What exactly is wrong with his acceleration? I only know that McLean once said, that his acceleration AddOns do something, if you know what are you looking for, but are more useless in sense of game feel and actual impact.

If you use chili with one of the movement speed add ons, you will see a dramatic increase in how quickly he gains speed, but without a movement speed addon they are pretty worthless. Even if you stack both chili add ons. I agree that his acceleration is broken, not only do you lose a ton of speed when charging the attack, but he seems to start the chainsaw attack at 100% speed or so, ending up at around 115%. My chainsaw attacks always end up just outside of the hit box.

Just no, Billy can't mow down 4 people at once while Bubba can.

Ever done that? In what scenario are survivors grouping up and run in a straight line together while LF is charging? Even if they are all grouped together for some [BAD WORD] reason which they will avoid knowing its Bubba, they have plenty of time to disperse.  You are lucky if you can catch 2 while camping the basement.

Even when we blatantly ignore that his power can be denied almost indefinitely by windows and pallets, a Killers unique strength shouldn't only come to show in a 1/10000 case where all survivors are in a convenient spot due to them being dumber than an average turd and simultanously disconnecting all their keyboards that keeps them from moving in seperate directions.

    Bubba needs a rework.

I've hit 2-3 survivors many times, and not even in the basement. Using beasts marks and carb tuning guide. However, I do agree that he needs a rework. My suggestions:

    • Moderately decrease his charge time
    • Moderately increase his acceleration and movement speed during his charge
    • OR
    • Double the duration of his charge and slightly decrease it's charge time.

Would making the chainsaw not have a charge time be too powerful? :P

  • @George_Soros @ToastfaceKilla

Same here, I thought that everyone had just gotten really good. Because most matches were like pallet loop nonsense, where a survivor would run from loop to loop, always staying out of range. If I ever went to pick up someone I downed, or break a pallet a flashlight popped in my face, or I would be body blocked. Something else that happened was people taking turns getting hooked while the others did the gens. It was as if one survivor would slip up just enough for me to get to them, while one survivor was sabotaging hooks, and another two were repairing.

  • Not bad, dude. People aren't giving you props because deep down inside we all thought at one point we had good builds, but in the end, the game is borked in favor of survivors. There are a few killers that pwn, but not all.

I've found the most productive strategy to be a versatile build and to quickly identify the survivors skill level in a chase - they all have their patterns at certain skill levels. The really good ones are just annoying because they can exploit pallet loops that are spaced perfectly to prevent you from ever hitting them. But, you learn not to chase people like that. Either way, when you stop chasing them 10 gens will instantly finish and by the time you get to the exit gate there are four groups of survivors tea bagging you and jumping in hatches.

  • As a side note... when you pick up a survivor near a window or vault, just turn your back to the vault location.

  • It always seemed easier just to level the character to 40, but here we go...

    "Feel the vibration!"

  • Maybe I'm using it wrong, but I use insidious to listen for footsteps when I can't seem to find anyone :3 although, come to think of it, I do always feel compelled to camp nearby after hooking someone.

Oh #########, you know what? This doesn't only affect the usefulness of insidious, but it affects leatherface as well. The only times that damn chainsaw is useful is when people are unhooking; to pretend you're quickly destroying pallets; and to cut off and down survivors that commit to vaulting without looking behind them.
