The game really needs voice chat to put solo on par with SWF and buff killers to compensate.

Whenever I see voice chat mentioned, I just think 'End game chat salt x 1000'

I've had some pretty terrible things said to me until I turned my messages off, I've yelled some awful things at my screen when I have been at peak frustration. End game chat and even the forums pretty much proves that the community can't be trusted to be remotely civil enough to make voice chat a pleasant experience in this game.

Also, quite frankly I don't want to hear ThatGuy5088's distorted anime music going off in the background while his mom yells about his room as I'm doing a gen.

On the other hand, however, allowing players to turn it off as they do with end-game chat would make it a non issue for the people who don't want to deal with it.

  • Nah, I'm not going to be a dick to my teammates for something I don't even really care about all that much and once it gets nerfed it'll be back to the meta (or ambulance build in my case) only to show up once in a while. If I see a totem, I'll cleanse as I always do, if I see someone wanting to plant a boon, I'll step aside just as i do for those wanting a charge on their inner strength.

I don't get the mentality of taking a perk set just to grief my own team but each to their own.

  • @KolbyKolbyKolby said:

Personally if I felt something were impacting my mental well being I would not go to forums about it and try to show how little I care about it

    It does seem somewhat counterproductive...

  • Oh please let me see more nurse games again. I've had one nurse in the month that I've been back and I miss the floaty gal!

"Progress does not reset when the Survivor cancels the interaction"

I'm sorry but. they can still 99 the hatch and wait till everyone comes over and bam, instant open hatch lol

    Nope.

"First, the hatch will no longer spawn if there’s more than one Survivors in the trial. This means you’ll never have to worry about the last three Survivors vanishing when there’s still one generator left"

  • @Veinslay said:

I think all the exhaustion perks that aren't Smash Hit should require unhooking a survivor before they can be used. This would prevent using it in the first chase when the killer needs to get a down and start building pressure, which naturally slows the game down

I'd rather not get hook farmed even more than I already do because someone wants to activate their exhaustion perk, I see enough people swarm the hooks as it is, so if you went that route, it would have to be a safe unhook.

  • At this rate, survivors running will be considered OP and we'll have to skip around the map while loudly singing Tiptoe through the tulips.

In all honesty, I don't rely on items, precisely because once they nerf something, it's a case of "Now let's pick the next thing to nerf" or if we're buffed in any way "Well now you have to nerf something of theirs" That isn't to say that some don't have reasonable balance concerns but for too many it's a case of mistaking 'tit for tat' as 'balance'.

If it take 10-15 seconds to set up a Boon Totem I think it can work if the Killer can remove it much faster. More use for Undying.

They stated killers could 'quickly' interact with totems so I doubt it will take them as long as it takes survivors to cleanse a hex, which makes sense.

  • @FatallyIconic said:

I'm going to guess that Killers will be able to instantly break boon totems, versus survivors who have to spend 14 seconds or so cleansing hex totems. Killers can also protect their hex totems by attacking survivors. In order for boon totems to have a chance of getting reliable usage, I would imagine that finding a hidden totem to bless is the most viable tactic.

Yes, Hex perks spawn randomly, but they can be defended and take time to cleanse. Boon totems are totally going to be "hit with weapon and instantly break" kind of thing. So I think survivors being able to choose any totem to bless isn't too bad? We will have to see. We don't even know how powerful the effects of boon totems are yet. It's all too soon to judge.

I believe they stated that killers would be able to 'quickly' disable boon totems, so you are likely correct.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2522526#Comment_2522526

    Exactly, this is another point.

Some time ago it was a trend that the Killer was checking their Hex-Totem right at the start of the Trial (this does not happen that often anymore). This alone gave the position away often enough, because if I see a Killer wandering into some Corner, I know what is going on.

Same would happen with Hex-Totems, if they would be able to place it. Searching for a Spot, taking time to activate the Hex, only for a Survivor to cleanse it shortly afterwards, because they saw the Killer going there.

This is very true, so much so that if I spawned near a totem at the start of the game, I left it well alone until I was sure the killer had already checked on it or was otherwise occupied. Nothing worse than being caught mid cleanse with a guilty look on your face. Myers nearly made me pee when he grabbed me off his shiny skull stack!

  • Is it fun to play against? No not really.

Do I accept it as part of the game, you're darn tootin'

Have I taken advantage of being left on the ground and crawled my way to hatch several times? Yup.

If I'm slugged, I'm not going to stay where I'm left, and now begins the mini game of 'can I guess where the hatch will spawn', it's always somewhat satisfying when the answer is a big old yes and I slither down it seconds before the killer can get to it in time.

Being slugged is boring as hell, so I entertain myself, and sometimes it pays off.

  • For me, if it's in-game, it's fair, even if it's a little annoying. Toxicity for me, is outright cheating, exploiting a bug, or being a butt hat in the end game chat. In other words pretty much everything you can get banned for. I don't sweat T-Bagging or hitting on the hook, and no, If I know you have won, I'm not going to judge your butt dance Olympics at the gate.

I do sometimes wish that the end game chat had as diligent a word filter as they seem to have on the forums though.

  • At the end of the day, unless someone is paying for your game, you play how you damn well please. There are merits and downfalls to both doing totems and not doing totems, there is no real 'right way' when you're playing against a guessing game with NOED. Personally, I am somewhere in the middle. Most of the time, unless in a challenge I will cleanse every totem I see, but I don't go hunting for them. If NOED procs, I'll hunt down them shiny bones.

However, I will say I have lost count of the many times I have avoided NOED because somewhere along the line everyone did their bit and cleansed a totem or two.

  • I'd have to test it out more to be certain, and even then it's probably not a 100% guarantee, but I found that on a few occasions if you stand between a pallet and a rock or two solid objects, it makes it more difficult for the chains to find you, at least that's what I've experienced so far. As I said, I don't think it's a 100% guarantee, but I seem to get attacked by chains less when dealing with the box, rather than trying to do it while standing out in the open.

  • @WeenieDog said:

What I really want is for killers to be able to jump into the hatch.

Ah yes. The new "F**k this sh** I'm out!" add on!

  • Is numerous key escapes a PC thing? I'm not yanking anyone's chain here but I've been playing the game on console for years now, killer and survivor, and keys just don't appear in the games I'm in quite as much as everyone seems to be reporting in the forums. I'm not calling anyone a liar at all, but at the same time, I'll maybe see a key escape once every couple of weeks, if that. So I have to wonder if it's more of an issue on PC, or its just a randomly weird phenomenon that surrounds me lol!

I do get the frustration it can cause to both killers and any survivors that get left behind after an early hatch escape, I just don't come across it as much as everyone else does. So a key reworking isn't going to bother much either way I guess.

  • I love playing against Nurse. I loved playing against old nurse even more so. Does this make me slightly masochistic?

  • I was messing around with him on a custom match. One of my own zombies popped up right under the hook and blocked me, giving my friend the last couple of seconds to hop off my shoulder lol!

I wasn't even mad, I was laughing so hard.

    1. Allow trapper to step over his traps. I still find it ridiculous that he can step in a trap he literally just placed.
    2. Allow us to 'sell' useless items and addons for half their BP value or something similar. I don't want 100 flashlights sitting in my inventory
    3. Add a 'refuse' gesture for idiots who unhook survivors with the killer on their ass. A healthy boot to the face or something similar. I've been back a week or so and most of my deaths have been due to hook rushing or just plain hook farming mid chase.
  • Holy crap, the dramatics in this post are almost great enough to go on broadway or London...someone call Andrew Loyd Webber, I'm sure one of them can spin a 5 verse song about how crouching up and down is devastating to the soul.

And please, don't give the bull line that only survivors taunt.

In my years of playing I have regularly been smacked on the hook, face camped while nodding, tea bagged, followed around the map to watch me bleed out, been dropped in front of the hatch and had it slammed in my face , body blocked the entire match, teabagged by Ghostface and YES, even been teabagged myself because I play both sides and fly my flag for neither because the 'feud' going on between both sides is about as childish as it gets these days. And no, I don't use meta perks, I don't BM and I'm about as polite as a 40 year old English woman can manage when running from a maniac, just in case someone tries to use the age old war cry of "You probably did something to deserve it"

Someone made a joke and now people are frothing and declaring EVIL (lol seriously?) when the reality is, if you were really concerned about in-game toxicity, you would be calling for all forms of it to be removed, otherwise it just seems like people are bored and now LOOKING for things to be outraged about.

  • Minimal effort gains you minimal points. If a survivor spends the game hiding in lockers and waiting for the hatch, they get next to nothing, If you spend most of the match staring at a hooked survivor, you get next to nothing. It's hardly a difficult concept to grasp.

I personally have no issue with camping, or at least I'll sigh and dutifully hang there to give teammates time, but if you want more points they are out there on the map waiting for you.

  • I had the same issue a while back. I had to restart the console for it to register that it needed an update. Not sure if that's your issue but worth a try if you haven't already.

  • Multi Killer mode. I know, logistically it would be a nightmare to pull off given how things break every 5 minutes, but I think it would ease the stress of killer somewhat to work with someone else, or at least more fun, and it is something that fits a 'dream change'

  • Unhooking is entitlement now! Shock horror! Now I'll have to get rid of my ambulance build just in case I am labelled an entitlement enabler!! :O

  • It starts with the stash, then it's a downward spiral to huffing the Clown's bottles behind the carnival trailer...

  • I think someone's been licking paint chips off the hooks again...

  • At the end of the day you play how you want, to the best of your abilities....and so will the other side. I actually don't care how anyone plays as long as it isn't outright hacking. On the other hand this means I tend to ignore most of the cries of "It's not fair" "I'm being bullied" "They are exploiting the game by using xyz, implemented in the game to be used...in the game" Especially when it comes from people who declare "I'll play how I want" "It's not my responsibility to care about the other sides fun" You are not wrong for such a philosophy, as long as it's understood that it works both ways.

As I have said countless times. Play how you want to play, the rest is just both sides waving their imaginary rule books at each other.

  • Er dude, he wasn't being sarcastic, he was simply stating that yes, as you just described, some peoples egos do not allow for them to accept a loss/win gracefully. You're literally jumping down his throat for agreeing with you.

  • I think I'll stick to at least trying to find the lit totem if the killer is just standing there camping. I have free reign to roam the map and at least in most cases, the totem is easier to spot.

I'm altruistic but not stupidly so, if the situation seems impossible, I'm likely to book it out the exit gates, otherwise I'll at least give it a go.

  • I mean....not really?

Survive together or alone implies that you can act selfishly in order to survive the match. Yes you can run around and create trouble for the other survivors, usually to your own detriment if the killer decides not to play along and punish you. Thats a risk you take. But you are still playing the game and as scummy as doing nothing and taking the hatch is, you are still playing the game.

DCing is not acting selfishly to survive, it's taking your ball and going home because you don't like the circumstances of the game and wasting a slot that someone who actually wants to play, could have filled.

  • If you want to fly, just have the Oni throw you like a lawn dart, pretty sure he's strong enough. Otherwise this just seems silly.

  • @dspaceman20 said:

I'm a survivor main and I don't have this mentality. I'm just trying to survive and I'm really sorry if thats toxic I guess.

You aren't being toxic. In fact I can just imagine the outcry and the quotes of "Its not the killers responsibility to..." if the roles were reversed and it was a survivor complaining that killers weren't allowing them to practice their new perks. If the OP is talking about out and out toxicity, such as taunting and being an ass in the after chat, then i can understand it, but no real definition has been given here.

But no, simply playing normally against a new killer is not toxic. I wouldn't expect a killer to go easy on me simply because I was testing out a new survivors perks.

  • I'm not usually one to jump on the devs, mostly because I know sweet FA about game development. But you don't have to know much to understand that this is now going beyond the pale. It almost feels.....contemptuous at this point.

"Well we got our money so we'll get around to it....SOON"

I know I'm probably exaggerating, but with the amount of bugs and game breaking issues teamed with a very poor level of communication they are making themselves look really really bad and I simply no longer have the energy or cause to think "Well maybe we should give them a chance"

At this point, they are wearing out even the most patient and forgiving people of their client base.

No, I'm not mocking you. I hide, evade, and sneak. I've never gotten below Rank-6 as a Survivor so far (so I have no idea if I've peaked until I learn to loop better). But what I can (and will) say is that you can beat most Killers simply by not letting them see you. My standard build is Iron Will, Calm Spirit, Spine Chill, and Self Heal. I support my team, but I tend to do it by not getting caught. Looping, for me at least, is a bad idea. Running around in a chase is what I do when a plan has gone WRONG.

I can second this. I'm not the greatest at chases but i can go unseen without having to hide in the bushes or urban around the map all game. At chases am average at best, and as said above, though im doing quite a bit behind the scenes, there are plenty of games where the killer doesn't even see me.

  • Nurse

    1. WHOOSH!
    2. Don't move, she can't see me if i don------ah crap...run!
    3. Don't see me....don't see me....holy poop how did she make that hit?!
  • Play stupid DC games, get penalties. It's as simple as that. And if people with bad connection issues are getting caught in the crossfire, then their ire should be reserved for the people who made this system necessary in the first place.

    End of story.

I will champion the DC penalties until they day they finally relent to having some form of the salt mines in DBD, so anyone who wants to DC tantrum can do so with their own kind.

Maybe we see different posts, but I've definitely had people try to justify the state of the tutorial before.

Wow, that must be a hard sell, because it really is pants...

  • @Elena said:

You know what's funny, I still see people defending the tutorial thing...

Really? I'm honestly not being sarcastic and saying you are wrong, i may have missed something as im not here 24/7, but every time the tutorial is mentioned, the general consensus tends to be that its about as useful as a chocolate tea kettle.

  • Why don't i play killer...

    1. I enjoy survivor more. Not because im a 'bully' with meta perks, (its sad i feel i have to verify this, but it almost seems necessary given some of the attitudes in the forum) but because i run a very specific niche build that i'm good at, and keeps me busy, plus i get more fun out of being chased than being the chasee
    2. Killer is more fun in KYF because you aren't isolated (seriously, give us multiple killer modes!)
    3. Because i suck major donkey testicles at killer unless playing Hag, and everyone seems to hate Hag despite the fact that i make it a point not to play her as the most campalicious in the land.
    4. I don't have as much time to play these days and prefer the role I have better experience with.
  • No. Just no.

Freddy has been given a pretty decent rework already. Survivors are constantly on a passive timer for sleep and you can speed that up by simply hitting them. You can teleport to gens and spam dream snares. All alarm clocks are spawned as far away from each individual survivor as possible, causing them to waste more time than it would take to miss a skill check (and give away their position) in order to run across the map and use the clock, and even then they are back on the countdown to the dreamworld. Every time a survivor is woken up, the next time takes longer, and so on.

In other words, Freddy is in a not too shabby place right now, and i think asking for the clock auras to be taken away is absurd and more than just a little bit greedy on your part.

  • Learn to utilize your HUD. The HUD contains a lot of useful information, not just the injured / dying state of survivors. For example. say you are being unhooked. You notice a little blue symbol that looks like my avatar, that means i can heal you super fast, it also means you don't need to run to the other side of the damn map to get that heal. All buffs and some killer effects such as Thana and its like, will show up in the same place and its worth learning to recognize when these are in play.

If you are on a gen injured, or with someone injured, and it's safe to do so, stop repairing at 99% and heal up. Now there are some who might disagree with this, but i tend to find that a good portion of killers will zero in on an area where a gens been completed, and a lot of people get found healing nearby, or just found injured as both repairing parties ran of in different directions.

Alternate your gens! This can be difficult to do in solo, but if you complete a gen on one side of the map, make an effort to do the next one on the complete opposite side, this lessens the chances of you being 3 genned.

If you are being slug camped, don't just lie there and take it. Yes, being slug camped is boring, but i try to have fun with it. Crawl away from your camper, making sure not to lead them in the direction of team mates. 9 times out of 10 I find that the killer gives up on the camp strategy and either walks away, or hooks me. Some will follow you, thinking you are about to rat out your team mates and will just follow you. In these cases, waste their time as much as possible. Slugged along with another survivor, crawl off in different directions, killer can't follow you both.

For the love of all that is holy, if you see a slug crawling away to hide while they recover, do not attempt to get them up while you are in a chase. This isn't an issue for swf as they can communicate if fully recovered, but in solo i have lost count of the many times i have crawled, hid, gotten to about 90% recovery, only to have someone to attempt a heal mid chase and now the killer knows where i am again. Also, even if you do get them up, chances are they are going right back down again, and you'll likely take a hit as well.

  • As someone who runs an ambulance build with Kindred, some games are just flat out sad to behold.

I see someone go down and i'm ready for action. I know where the killer is, and i know when he's moved away from the hook. I make my way as carefully as i can to the hook without crouch walking all the way.....i know i can trust in my We'll make it and botany after i get this person down as soon as i judge it safe to do so (i don't carry BT because i don't unhook in the killers face) then heal them mega fast under the hook if i see the killer is otherwise busy, or heal them a little way away if not. If i screw up, i will take the heat! But 8 times out of ten, this build allows me to safe unhook and get the survivor fully healed and back in the game in much less time than usual.

Lo and be-fricken-hold, no sooner am i a few meters away, here comes 2 to 3 people a-running! No plan, no caution, no waiting for the killer to get far enough away that unhooking isn't a second death sentence for the one on the hook. No BT, just unhook and leg it away...leaving the poor unhooked sod to do a backflip once the killer downs them again.

I understand that other people don't see my loadout, but this happens even when I'M the person on the hook and literally broadcasting everyone's movements. Is it a race for the points, some absurd adrenaline rush to be there first? Who knows.

If you are observant, the HUD can tell you so much, but since a good portion tend to ignore the bright yellow aura's of their team mates, i really don't hold out much hope.

I'll be honest, the many, many times i see 3 survivors go down like dominos because they think they can unhook in a killers face (essentially making it more profitable for that killer to camp) i sometimes end up just noise spamming for the killer to find me so i can die and get the heck out of there.

  • Nurse is fun to play against **because** she forces a shift in survivor game play. Her basekit should never have been touched. The latter isn't really an unpopular opinion, merely a gripe on my end because i really miss playing against nurse and you just don't see as many playing these days.

Complaints about perks/powers/addons/items should be directed at the people who made them, and should not be used as an excuse to berate the killers / survivors who merely use the tools they are given.

  • Bring the bloody salt mines to BHVR.

People want the 'right' to dc because they don't like the Killer/survivors/map/getting hit/got DS'D/ or perhaps the colour of the damn grass wasn't to their liking? Fine. Lets pack you all off to play with each other and see exactly how long the cry of "I shouldn't have to stay in a game Im not enjoying" remains loud and clear when it runs through all games like a batch of herpes at an orgy.

I can just about guarantee the next war cry will be "We shouldn't be forced to play with these kinds of people"

No, my fun isn't your responsibility, but entertaining this trend of entitled babyish behavior over nothing more than the possibility of losing, shouldn't be anyone else's when all they want to do is get through a damn game without being handicapped/screwed by survivors, or outright have a win ripped away from them by a killer.

If you truly believe "DC penalty doesn't work" then maybe we should just start petitioning to have repeat offenders thrown into each others games so that the rest of us can play in relative peace. I mean, surely habitual DCers wont mind if half their team dc's or the killer takes their win away at the exit gates....they have the 'right'...don't they?

  • Its a toss up between Freddy and the Doc for me. It's not that I find them overly powered, nor am I too lazy to adjust my playstyle in order to counter them. They are simply the two that make me sigh in resignation when i figure out i'm up against them, and i go through the game feeling no real enjoyment as i might against a zoomie Billy or a really good nurse (I'm not going to stop saying this: I really REALLY miss challenging nurses)

  • Old nurse. Don't mind some of her addons being gone, but with her cooldown, i see a lot less nurse games these days and I used to love going against her.

  • Nothing funnier than a bunch of survivors desperately noise spamming near the gate to get you to come and judge the butt dance Olympics. Look if you kicked my butt fair and square, i will take that loss as a lesson and would shake your hand if there was a DBD equivalent. Otherwise i'm just going to wander the map and gather any extra points lying around or stand in a corner humming the baby shark theme.

If you slug everyone for the 4k, i'm not simply going to lay there while you nod over everyone bleeding out. No i don't condemn you for slugging, but don't expect me to dutifully stay there for your amusement. I'm going to inch worm my way around the god damned map and hope that i come across the hatch. It's a small chance but i've managed it at least 4 times in my stretch of playing DBD.

Toxicity sucks, especially the age old end game gloat, best thing you can ever do is not to entertain it.

  • Because, lets face it. There would be a massive poop-fit if they did this and didn't tell anybody.

People go off the rails for the smallest thing. Perks, killers, new mechanic changes all have about 8 different conspiracy theories and doom predictions attached to them before they even reach the PTB. If people weren't told about them beforehand, the community would just go mental!

Who on earth would want that kind of headache when history already tells us that the fall out would be monumental!

1 … 3 4 5 6 7 … 21
