If you killed 3 out of 4 of them, they didn't win... You did.
-
If the Hex hasn't been put out, the killer should be able to move it. (I'd actually advocate for weakening some hex perks and allow the killer to RE-light totems too).

Queue times seem to be considerably up on PS4.
I don't think its the devs fault, other than there hasn't been any meaningful content in a few months. It could be people are just getting bored or burned out after the hallowed ground event. I'd love to see the statistics of player base drop with RDD2 came out.
I like the game, but I've pretty much stopped playing unless friends are on. I'm working through the backlog of other games.

Step 1: Remake the game. Step 2: There is no step two.

Neither of the "this is business" excuses make sense. Maybe the did a cost benefit analysis of whether dedicated servers would increase profits, and the answer was "no", but to just say "they're making money, why bother" is a ridiculously over simplified idea of how businesses operate. Dedicated servers could very well increase profits by bringing more people into the player base and increases profits. Dedicated servers cost money, so if you AREN'T giving money to them, there is no chance they'll happen.
We haven't seen their code, but there is no reason to believe that changing to dedicated servers should be an impossible task. You already have 4 of the 5 participants connecting to a remote host, you switch and have the killer do the same thing and you got dedicated hosting.

Use the perk that let's you know if you are looking in the direction of the killer. Forget it's name, but it's the best one against freddy. Be sure to scan around as you do gens, don't just look on one direction.
Focus on gens around the edge of the map. When you hear the song, try to hide away from map center. If no place to hide, pick a direction and go. I think hearing the singing and determining direction is way harder than heartbeat, but you can tell if you are going toward or away from him.
-
Agree 100%. Necter should be on the gens.
Actually it might encourage even better play if you only got your nector if someone escapes. More people escape, more nector. That way it encourages team play and still normalish games. -

The cosmetics cost 10$ each. That's two hours of work for me, with taxes accounted for. I can't use this money on food, on phone bills, on internet, on other games or on rent. I have bought every DLC and I actually think the packs like Bloodstained Sack had a 'fair' value to them-- 3$ for 8 cosmetic items that are actually nice to look at? I feel like .20 is definitely fair for a cosmetic. 3$ per cosmetic part, 10$ for a whole outfit? It's really not fair.Dude, this is gonna sound harsh, but if you're making $5 an hour after taxes you shouldn't be buying ANY cosmetics. They don't change your game play, and you you really do have a lot more important things to spend your money on.

If you want to know what casual mode would be like, just think of the first day after a rank reset... ALL THE TIME. Its not fun. They don't need a casual mode. They need a way to balance out the ranking system based on a number of different factors so that you end up in matches with similarly skilled players all around. I honestly don't know how you do that.
My thought is make it harder to rank up, and don't allow ranking down ever. The only time your rank goes down is at season reset. You get awarded for ranking up, and drop a few ranks at reset.
I don't know how this would effect smurf accounts, but are those seriously a problem? I don't know many people that will buy the game over and over again just to pick on lower ranks.

I'm not a great killer. I definitely need to 'git gud' but I'm probably done playing killer for a while after the few games I played today. P3 "rank 15" survivors running circles around me @ rank 15 (after reset).
Rank doesn't matter in this game because it's too easy to rank and derank. It should be a slow climb to rank up and no ranking down. You either pip or you don't, but you don't depip -
The thing I find most offensive is the deranking.

oh i dont really care to discuss with someone ive already deemed ignorant, but ill mention just one, F13.F13 failed because it was never a good game to begin with and they got crushed legally. People weren't going to buy into a game that was never going to be successful. Its not because they didn't listen to their community.
Dead By Daylight has shown consistent growth since it was released. SteamCharts.com shows them averaging 23k players last month. The forum has a few hundred of the players, and most people who come to forums aren't the average player. We are not the majority on the forums.

The problem is that killers feel like they've only won if they 4k and survivors don't always care if they do get killed.
Lets review:
4 Kill = The survivors really messed up
3 Kill = You won! Congrats!
2 Kill = You tied. This is not a loss.
1 Kill = You messed up somewhere. Survivors won.
0 Kill = You probably messed up a lot and or had some rotten luck.If more killers understood that, then there would be less complaining. If killers think they need a 4k to win, then they are going to get frustrated and feel like they are CONSTANTLY losing.
Its an interesting dynamic how most people playing survivor don't seem to feel the same way. Killers just take the game way harder than they do. Survivors seem to die and move on much more readily.

They want it to be a horror game but to do that they will piss off more than half the community by making the survivor experience scary cause after all its a horror game no matter how much people dont want to believe it.Define 'horror' though. Hide or Die seems like it could be horror because it may provide jump scares and stuff. DBD isn't horror... its tag. You don't get jump scares, the atmosphere isn't scary (especially as 3rd person view).

They could just open a random thread like they did with the lore questions and ask for balance advice. Then they can look at the majority and ask the community if they agree with the majority before they actually start to balance the game.
If you think "majority" opinion is a good way to balance the game, I think you are sorely mistaken.
They already know how people feel just by browsing the forum. People are very expressive with their suggestions and they've taken many of them. On the other hand, when it comes to hot button topics, it's clear that the loudest opinions are the most harmful or unproductive ones.
Yes. Browsing the forum and hearing the voices of a very small percentage of their player base. There is a reason people aren't seeing the changes they're bitching about on the forums, because most players aren't on here and totally content with the game.

Swf group are easy to counter. There is always going to be one built for distracting and 2 running borrowed. Once you establish who is built for distracting leave that person alone until the end. And don't camp or tunnel or they will hit you with borrowed and they will change their tactics and just do gens...this strategy works every time at rank 1. Killer is ridiculesly easy if your smart. Swf groups can be annoying BUT your complaining about it and your only rank 15. Eventually you'll learn to counter them with meta perks like noed, bbq, rancor, sloppy, ruin (except survivors always find that in less then 1 second)He's de-ranked/reset rank 15. Unless he's just terrible, and happened to P3 for Shape... And you'll get lots of SWF at lower ranks now due to reset.

You should encourage more interaction with the killer, not less.Say what? I'll support your technical issues. But this is weird... The killers sole job is to kill the survivors.... what more interacting do you want? The only balance the devs need to achieve is that for every 5 people that play the game only 1 want’s to play killer.Seeing as I can get a game of either on PS4 within a minute I say they nailed it.
Killer has to be a bit difficult, a bit frustrating, a bit draining to maintain this 4/1 ratio.
This.
With 80% of the player base being a survivor, if you make the game too hard for them, you lose 80% of your player base because you have to let them get the carrot more often than taking it away. I've said it other places, but its also a problem with no defined win condition. Many survivors feel that unless they survive, they've lost. Many killers feel unless they 4k they've lost. Neither of which should be true.
I'm so tired of this discussion. Killers don't want a game. They want a slaughter. They thought they were getting a "game" where they get to be in some power role and dominate the ######### out of survivors, and because that doesn't happen more often than not, they feel like they had the rug pulled out from them or something. The game most killers on this forum want to play isn't one that will get people to play survivors.
-
Don't feed the troll.
-
Out of curiosity, are they facing you when squatting? I've heard this can mean GG and some survivors let you hit them for one more point for you.

@SanKa_Games I don't bother patrolling totems either way. Have more success patrolling gens. I found patrolling totems just helps survivors find them.

Have you tried turning it on and off again? I'm not joking... I get improved performance when i close the game sometimes. The PS4 going into rest mode doesn't close the application. I suspect DBD has a memory leak somewhere. This is actually true, I'll get a match where my animations get stuck and I run around looking like I'm repairing. It will continue to the next match but if I restart the game it clears up.
That is EXACTLY the issue I've experienced.

How would you rate this totem placement then? Happened thrice since this. Its a ######### placement, but haunted ground does a lot to combat this. I've lost a number of games because my fellow survivors were cleanse happy. "Oh, you're being chases? Game just started and killer is patrolling and we don't know who it is or where htey are?" BOOM Exposed. Dead.
I'll always test a gen before I cleanse a totem. If its not hexed, I'll probably wait until I can figure out what the other hexes might be, and assume its haunted.
That said, haunted puts survivors in a weird position because if I cleanse it, I have the opportunity to hide when I'm exposed because I know it MIGHT be haunted... but my fellow survivors might be in a terrible position to get exposed all of a sudden.

Play a different game. This isn't the one for you. Then maybe they should change the name to 'Slightly Injured By Daylight' because the killers are not allowed to kill.
But sure, not being able to play a game about killing and sneaking and MAYBE surviving is my issue, not the games.
I can tell you're a Survivor main, because you're happy the game is basically Baby's First Horror Game and holds your hand to go 'There, there. You got hooked. The Devs will nerf them again soon'
I never said your complaints didn't have validity. But the game you want, isn't this. It's never going to be. Thus my recommendation to go find something else.
I've said this in multiple posts now... but at any given point 80% of player base is playing survivor. Make killers too powerful and survivors stop playing. Thats why killers get adjustments much slower than survivors do. Right now, and probably forever, high level killer players vs high level survivor players ARE going to be at a disadvantage BUT MOST PLAYERS are not high level. Which means at the mid-ranks where most players play, of which 80% are going to be survivors, they are seeing much more even matches and not taking issue with the game. You are likely not BHV's target audience.
-
Play a different game. This isn't the one for you.
-
A few other things to think about:
- Getting 3k is a win, 2k is a tie. 4k your survivors messed up somewhere, 1k you messed up somewhere, 0k you really messed up and probably had some ######### luck thrown in. Keep that in mind and try not to take it too hard when you have those 2k and 1k games. This is how its supposed to be distributed.
- I believe that survivors will ALWAYS get the most attention. At any given point, 4 out of 5 players are survivors. From a business standpoint, its not a good idea to frustrate 80% of your customers. The minute one killer feels OP, gets overused, and feels unfair, the player base drops. Some won't come back.
- Turn off messaging from non-friends on PS4.
- Fourth, and the hardest to follow, grow some thicker skin. Its just game. Play something else for a while. Make sure you're in the right mindset to play a game like this. I sometimes play when I'm in a bad or tired mood already, and it just drags me down more - but its tough to NOT play - because I'm looking for that special feeling that this game can give you when you have a good game.
That is all.
-
PS4 Player Here.
The only time I've ever had salt thrown at me in this game in post-game messages is:
- I was a ######### survivor teammate. Sometimes I am.
- I camped as the killer, or was perceived to be camping. (Typically, I "patrol" hooks)
Other than those two situations, I've never, as the killer, had a survivor message me after a game to make fun of my skills. I just think it requires way too much time and effort to send messages on PS4 otherwise.
So I find it a little suspect that you are getting a enough salt messages post game to warrant a manifesto like this post.
-
I wonder if they've ever had totem placement done by the killer. Like, none of your totems are lit from the start. You can add the hex to totems when you find them, which would also let you re-start the perk if your first totem gets busted. This would put an interesting dynamic on survivors vs killers, since survivors would still want to cleanse non-lit totems, which would slow down the game. It would also give the killer the opportunity to not fully waste a perk if the totem is found right away. They'd also (kind of) get to chose the location of the totem.

The same thing as a terror radius. The volume changes depending on how close or far. If you move and it gets louders you went closer so change direction. Worst case scenario find a loop or pallets and then get away and fail a skill check to wake up.
Thats only half true. Maybe I just don't have an ear for it, or its my wife talking to me as I play, or my friends in the party chat (sometimes playing different games), but the singing is a different sound than the normal terror radius, its much more subtle and doesn't seem (to me at least) to have the same directional sensitivity as the normal terror radius sounds. So to me, choosing which direction to go, or hide, or just stay on the gen because maybe he hasn't seen me yet - feels very random. I don't like random.

I am not. Several other people mentioned upgrading from a regular to a pro with only a slight difference.
I got my PS4 Pro nearly the day it came out (for the PSVR boost), and never played DBD on a non-Pro, so I'm not a super good judge on it w/ DBD.
FWIW if people are wondering, I don't think the PS4Pro is worth upgrading to at this point in time unless you can sell your original PS4 for a decent price.

Even on my crappy wii from the "last century" I was able to plug in a keyboard to actually type properly.I'm fairly certain that if you hook a keyboard up to your PS4 or XBox right now you could use it to type messages, which is why I'm not sure the technical reason is fully honest on their part. I think it is 100% keeping the playing field fair, not frustrate players who don't want/have M&K.
In some (maybe all) cases though, it is up to the game maker. For example, Fortnite recognizes the desire for M&K but ALSO has the playerbase to support both. So you can use you're M&K, but you will ONLY be going up against other players using M&K on PS4.
-
Short answer: Because Sony & MS limit it.
Play style answer: Because its a huge advantage that most players won't have. To say "go buy a M&K" then, is the same as us saying, "Go buy a PC then".
Technical Answer: There may be additional technical issues that allowing USB or Bluetooth devices outside of those specifically made for the hardware that goes through a defined process may open the consoles up to hardware and software hacks that could lead to cheating or rooting of the consoles. This happens a bit already, but its small enough percentage and user base to not really be a problem.
Personal answer: I don't want to use a M&K even if it were available. I sit at a computer, hands on a mouse and keyboard for 8 hours of my day already, I don't want to do it on my leisure time too.

Freddy, while being really easy when you have a team who understands his MAJOR weaknesses, is just NOT FUN to play against - even if we are able to stomp on him. The whole invisible thing is a stupid mechanic IMO.
I mean he still has a terror radius..... if it weren't for the girls singing you'd have a point, but they do so you don't. Unlike the Wraith who can sneak around an object or bad players who can't see the outline. Even Freddy also disturbs the area in corn or grass etc.
Its the randomness of it. If you hear the girls singing, do what (?), run in a random direction. MAYBE you could stop and try to see if things are being disturbed, that is again totally dependent on the map your randomly assigned. I can SEE Wraiths outline, so as I'm doing a gen I don't feel like it was just a totally random occurrence whether or not I was able to be stealthy.

I still dont why Killer's are being forced out of the play style.Because BHV is a business. At any given point, 1 in 5 players is a survivor. BHV goal is to make money, and for that to happen the game needs to be FUN for as many players as possible. The general consensus among survivors is that being hard camped isn't fun. Not fun === not buying. Killers will ALWAYS get the short end of the stick because of this reason.
