Why do people keep saying a Samurai wouldn't fit? We have a Killer who worked at a junkyard, FFS, and you're telling me a Samurai wouldn't fit? Every single Killer was a normal human before being taken. A supernatural creature is what wouldn't fit.

Reminds me of the time when I did a Gladiator/Retarius killer concept and people started talking they didn't think that would fit into the game and it's horror theme. Even though he wouldn't look that much different than a Trapper.
I agree a supernatural creature would be tough, but partly doable if they would do it like the Hag.

  • Well to be fair with "Windows of Opportunity" and "Dance with me" they've already introduced us with two quite interesting perks. And even on the Saw chapter we got perks that are nice to play with. They aren't meta, but they aren't bad either
I agree that an anti-bleedout perk would be nice to have for stealth builds etc. Besides that I can't say in which direction they could go with new interesting perks. Probably one that let's you see your own scratchmarks. I don't know.

I would not get my hopes up for any Freddy rework. Just based on things that were said during this last dev stream. Cote kept pointing out that some killers are meant to be "fun" and not competitive. So, yeah, take it as you will but I have no hope for Freddy ever being fun or competitive.

Devs also always mention that they knew about the community having issues with Freddy and even different buff ideas, that are floating around in their heads. Also when they talked about the upcoming Wraith changes they said they did Wraith before Freddy, because it was easier to achieve with the ressources they have avaible right now.
Freddy changes will come for sure. My guess it will be the upcoming MidChapter patch in october. The only thing that we shouldn't expect him to become is a top tier killer. Just better/closer towards the midtier ones.

  • Not really stocking up. But not playing him much either, now that I know he get some significant changes. Quite excited to try them out ingame. So far they sound good.

  • It's because some people have the desire to humilate others. You find those in every game. Not just DbD. It's just toxic behaviour.

  • @Someissues said:
Thats why Licensed killers are bad, all of them are weak and after Wraith's buff they become the weakest killers

Killers beeing licenced isn't the issue. Myers is in a good spot and in my opinion one of the best designed killers in combination with his AddOns etc. The main issue with licenced killers are more individual issues having to do with their power. Stuff we know from original killers as well. Just take a look at trapper or pre-buff-hag or wraith as an example.
Leatherface suffers from a rushed design. His power doesn't seem to be thought through very well and he inherited the AddOn-design-mess from the Hillbilly. We can argue that's mostly because he is licenced, but he is the only example or rushed design.

Freddy and Amanda are thought through. It's just that with Freddy they kinda misdesigned his power and Amanda is actually in a good spot, if there wouldn't be SB.

  • After seeing the teaser I wouldn't be surprised if the killer is gonna wear that Oni mask we see and it's the man with a katana. Kinda hyped for that new setting.

  • No, the game needs to get away as much as possible from backstabbiing. In it's current state the fact that the game was designed balanced with teamplay as an option to win is why SWF is so unbalanced strong in the first place.

  • @Orion said:
Making his power reliant on "charges", even if they fill quickly, will make him considerably weaker. Such a thing is only used for Killers who can injure Survivors from a distance (Trapper, Huntress) or otherwise immediately go to where they are (Hag). It's not for an M1 Killer who's mostly good at defending locations from pesky Survivors or downing multiple Survivors if they're close together.

EDIT: Come to think of it, why does it take charges to ACTIVATE the chainsaw (required for the use of his power; this would be like if the Huntress consumed a hatchet even if she cancelled the throw), and why does he need to have a specific number of charges to do so in the first place? This is a straight-up nerf.

You can't call it a complete nerf, because of the 115% movement speed, that he keeps while charging. That means, you can charge quite earlier without any distance lost while doing so, if you avoid bumping into things. Besides that the charge system is not comparable with huntress or clown, because recharging is passive. It's more like a specific visible cooldown mechanic.
For me the idea sounds interesting, because it adds more complexity towards LF power. Something he also kinda misses.

  • This would really be an interesting way to rework his playstyle. Love it. The only concern I would have is, that it might take BHVR too much ressources to do such a full rework. But that's something outside of our control.

The only question is: His AddOns require a rework as well. How do you think should an AddOn rework walk hand in hand with such a power rework?

Deja is pretty decent to avoid the famous 3 gen strat.
A few of those could use some buffs.

I find it's pretty easy to do without the perk, though. Find a few close together, go for the middle one first, or alternatively, once one generator goes off, try to get one on the opposite side of the map.

Jep, but Deja was always to be intended to be a beginner perk. You know one of these perks, that people start using when they begin the game, until they realized, that they unlocked or gained better perks, that only an advanteg user can handle. And now it even works as such. That's why I would say the perk is fine.
Same counts for current Unrelenting. It's a beginner perk in my eyes and it works well as such.

  • @azazer I took a look on the last clear frame on the video: For me it looks like the room behind the doors has two picture in them and either the door opens by itselfs or the beeing that did it isn't visible. It might be that at least the shadow left from the door is the arm. But still, if you look through the door, it looks like a normal room with two pictures in it. At least that's how I see it.

EDIT: I took a look Frame for Frame and really nothing seems to move behind it. I'm 100% sure, that there is only the room behind it.

    Also this idea stinks.

Teacher killer ? Bwhahaha nothing scary nor interresting about that, i personally don't understand.

We already got a pedophile with Freddy, it's pointless :p

Actually the idea is kinda great. Old school teaching was always kinda scary and brutal towards children. Beeing beaten by the teacher's cane and beeing humilated with a Dunce cape etc. was kinda normal. So

A teacher doesn't need even to be a pedophile to be a horrible figure or work as a killer. It would be enough if it would be a sadistic person. A setting I wouldn't mind. The only thing that makes me think that we won't ever get him, is that the Doctor feels already a lot like such a teacher with his stick and his punishment mode. Even though, he is different themed.
Anyway, I don't believe it's gonna be the teacher, but I wouldn't mind, if they would go for a oldschool themed chapter.

  • Na it's just another theory. He said there is something to find about the next chapter and when people theorized that it's something you can find in the game files like huntress hatchets or the Teachers abilities, he said it's not in the game files.
It could be something on a map, it could hidden within a news or description. Or he could be just trolling. Who knows.

  • Doc and Hag aren't free DLCs. They are just included with the console version.
Also all non-licenced dlc-killers/characters can be unlocked with Iridescend Shard, an ingame currency that you earn while playing the game. This will also be the case with future Characters. 9000 Shards and they are yours.
A complete free DLC/Character is quite unlikely right now.

My thoughts about Alien/Predator is: Yes, why not. I'm not a fan of these franchises, but if the killer works well. Then why not.

  • Like you said Clown is already toxic. His gas slows you down and influences your perception. I'm actually not that much interested into a killer with a poison power that causes harm directly. Some effects an debuffs like the clown has are kinda more interesting to play with.

  • @feffrey said:
If killers get their way this game will be one sided.. I get that some killers at smart enough to deal with looping or to lwave that one survivor alone.

I understand that looping can be difficult to counter..

Why want killers just admit to being out played?

Killers aren't outplayed. Survivor just start with the map control automaticly given to them. Every loop/pallet, every vault spot is a safe spot. As a killer you might be able to outplay a survivor, if a loop spot is mindgameable, but the majority of those aren't specifically because of survivors third-person camera and or stuff like tiny holes etc. that always give you sight for the killer.
And if you can see the killer, then there is nothing they can do against that loop. That's also the main reason why the Nurse is so strong. Her ability makes every spot unsafe right from the start, but still she has to deal with gens beeing done too fast. A sad truth.

  • I actually would prefer a Halloween Event over a new chapter around that time. An event might be more interesting for newcomers that might explore the game during a sale for the first time, than facing all the same killer all the time.

I personally think that the moment they made the store the thought of licenced killers went away because it costs money not make it. (compared to unique that have store skins)

Previous licence deals were made without the shop in mind, while with future ones they would be able to negotiate the possibilities of cosmetics right from the beginning. And you can do cosmetics with licenced killers. Just stuff like Pretty Lady Leatherface or Halloween 2018 Myers/Laurie are coming into my mind right now.

  • A Survivor class system, game beeing designed with Survivor teamplay as a must, a second mapcontrol objective for Survivors, rethinking the hook/kill mechanic to prevent tunneling and camping. More skillbased interaction between Survivors and Killers

  • Besides we are not crying about origins. This thread is more some form of constructive criticism expressing the wish for doing other settings as well.

Those videos are from his last DbD stream. The day before DG came out. He is just uploading specific rounds, that might be interesting for people to watch who missed the stream.

Freddy is one of the most difficult killers to play effectively.
He's deceptively complex and if you're just sleeping and chasing one person at a time you're playing him wrong, he's all about juggling multiple targets and being unpredictable.

I play him more complex with switching targets and sleeping more than one survivor, if possible. But still playing him feels like. "I see a survivor, that isn't sleeping. Should sleep him." There are rare cases, where the choice to sleep a survivor feels like there is a thought process behind it. And all his other abilitys around the dreamworld are just passive. With Wraith, I can bait survivors with my uncloaking e.g. Or use it for mobility etc. Even Leatherface can bait with his chainsaw sometimes etc.
Freddy on the other hand might be able to use his aura seeing within chases, but it really feels more like basic chase tactics. Not like you are directional using his ability to control the game. More like how to play with it, because it kinda hinders you.

Marth has said he was leaving multiple times in the last month and there are already multiple threads from his previous "announcements". It's turning into "The boy who cried wolf".

Not a huge Marth watcher because of timezones. But from what I got the past couple of weeks was, that he stopped streaming DbD regularly a few weeks ago and mentioned that he is gonna stop playing it. He played games likes Souls at Stake, Identity V and Warframe during this time. Just a few DbD streams in which he played only Hillbilly and Nurse.
He always talked about how and why he stopped playing DbD, that he might need to put out another video to clarfify it etc. What he did. And that exactly one day before Deathgarden came out. The game he mentioned he would play more regularly.
I wouldn't say he is "The boy who cried wolf". It's more like because of this strange transition period he had, that it kinda became a thing with multiple threads etc.

  • A good Leatherface doesn't spam his chainsaw. Actually part to play well as him is, to know when to use it or the mallet. Or even wait for a better oportunity to use it. Etc. Yes, he might be missing a little bit variety in his playstyle compared to other killers, it still requires some tactical decisions to use him well.

The only killer ability I would argue that takes no skill/tactical thinking is Freddy's, because there is no choice when to use it or not. You have to be able to interact with survivors. That's why I hope they manage to rework his base kit, to be more tactical.

  • These events just brings out the toxity within the community. And also the frustration, that this game sometimes causes, because suddenly you have a specific goal to work towards to, which can be denied by others.
Sometimes just because they play normal like they always do, but because you are so focused on your goal you only can see denying it and miscalculate their intend. It's always hard to say how it is. But really the only thing that helps against it is to care less about your goal. Look at the huge amount of time you've got to reach it. Not the best advice, I know. But really there isn't much you can do about it.

What makes me laugh is he cries so much about DBD but is leaving for Death Garden, It's the same company, what makes you think it's any different. At this point I don't blame anyone but the company, it looks like it's a corporate culture thing. The amount of times things are screwed up and no one apologizes and or makes changes makes me think they straight up don't care, it doesn't matter to them if you do a good job.

Deathgarden is designed with keeping the issues of DbD in mind. And also it has a shooting core gameplay, more focusing on Runners juking and avoiding the Hunters aim etc. A core gameplay that's faster paced, but also more dependend on fast reaction, aim of each side etc.
I won't say it's better. It's not the kind of gameplay I like to watch or play. But it's different because Deathgarden is a different kind of game. And judging by Marth's gaming preferences, I can see why he jumps over to this game.
I also believe it's kinda a corporation thing going on. But I think DbD sometimes suffers from a lack of coordination and lack of ressources.

True, they are not. Though it’s just the premise of idea of “rewarding failure”. Both do the same thing, DS just does it better.

A game mechanic that seems to reward failure isn't bad by design. There is an interesting video about feedback loops in game design on youtube. It explains how and why so called negative Feedback Loops exists. It kinda prevents games from beeing boring or the winning side snowballing the other one.
Noed in my opinion isn't bad in the current state of the game. If all four survivors are still alive by then, then you actually need to be a good killer to catch them all with it, because the totem can be destroyed quite easily and you can still can't be everywhere.
Most of the time it actually only rewards you with one hook against good survivors. Because as soon as they know Noed is in the play, they will play more cautios and either leave as soon as possible, use good loops or search the totem and destroy it.
Noed is a mechanic that actually makes the endgame quite interesting in a situation where one side seemed to have gotten the upper hand. DS on the other hand doesn't have this effect in it's current state. Yes, it helps you after you failed a chase as a survivor and gives you another chance, but you have it at the beginning and it isn't 100% clear if the killer side actually has the upper hand at that point of the game, because we don't know how long it took to down that specific survivors, how many gens are done or how many are sacrificed.

  • It's quite early to say which direction they are going with the upcoming chapter. No hints yet. We can''t even say if it will be licenced or not. On the other hand the fall killer will be released before Halloween and it's sale. So it might be better from a marketing perspective, if the newest killer will be a known licence by then.
Alternatively, what I would love to see to either go into japanese horror setting for the next chapter or do their own take on a public domain like the Legend of the Sleepy Hollow e.g.

  • @Tsulan said:
You seem to be very optimistic regarding the changes. Maybe we´ll have another chat, when every match takes 3 minutes. Since survivors can focus on gens and don´t lose any time by checking the hook if someone else goes.
It will be as simple as the solution to camping: survivors will rush gens.

But this was already possible by coordinated SWF or good playing Solo Surivors in general. The Gen/Chase-Pacing is one of the main issues of the game already. By making Kindred standard the issue becomes more frequent, which forces the devs to find a way to fix it, if they don't want to loose too much of the killer playerbase.
They even talked about it during the Q&A. Problem is that they don't want to increase gen time and want to find a way around it. That was probably the main reason why the speed up pickup time e.g. My personal wish/solution would be that they make 80% of windows and pallets locked at start of the game, so they have to work to gain their map control.

  • I personally belong to the group that thinks Hillbilly will need a rebalance at sme point together with the Nurse. But in the current state of the game their power is kinda necessary to have at least a chance against survivors. Calling for a Hillbilly nerf is just too early right now..

  • I like LF more, even though Hillbilly is better in almost every way in comparison. He has better Map Control, doesn't lose distance towards a survivor while charging his chainsaw, charges faster, has more AddOn-Variety.
Bubby on the other hand is good at punishing mistakes, farming, avoiding certain jukes and might allow you to destroy pallets faster. Also is immune against certain jukes (360, Locker). But lacks in so many other ways. If you have survivors, that are decent in using pallets and vaults, then they kind aturn you into a normal M1 killer instead.
As much as I love him, I just wish sometimes Devs would rework him and AddOns in a way, that he feels better to play with more AddOn variety and a nice base kit someday

  • Killers can only hook from one angle. And because that's tricky when it comes to positioning, the game has that hook vacuum. I wouldn't mind getting rid of the vacuum, if Killers would be able to hook from all angles.

Grab Vacuum ... I don't know. Is that really a thing? Never experienced that ingame. And even then, if a killer is in grabbing distance, then they should be able to grab you.

  • Jacob Goodnight from See No Evil. I know it isn't a great movie. But I like the throwing Hook aspect of him:

And sadly impossible, but woudl be coul the OoT-Zombie:

  • I think it would help, if Survivors had a clear Yes and No Emote while on the hook. That might be enough to show people, if they should come to help or not.
Besides that there aren't really any solutions against camping. Hooks are placed quite close to points of interest within the game like gens and loops. So you can't decrease the Hook process, depending on Killer distance. Surivors would just abuse it.
The perk idea is nice. But it's like Bamboozle. A perk that helps with something that is broken within the games design, but because it's a perk that you need to equip. It doesn't solve it.

  • @RemoveSWF said:
Just what the game needed, Wraith nerfs.

Could you please explain what and why you consider it as a nerf?

  • Sprint Burst.
It's still good. Dead Hard has too many conters. Lithe triggers quite unreliable. Either because the chase doesn't trigger, the killer is laggy (not uncommon here in Europe), or exhaustion AddOns. Balanced Landing is more reliable, but problem is that drop spots are quite rare on maps.

  • @Sally55 said:
Let's hope we don't have to hook survivors on special hooks like in howling grounds.....

Looking at some game files, it's seems like it will be like Howling grounds, just with the summer theme.I'm just surprised that the Hillbily weapon is a hammer. Thought it will be a pickaxe.

  • They probably didn't had the time for the Q&A video this week and decided for a second mash-up video. Probably because not_Queen is on vacation. They should have communicated it clearer, though.

  • @Leatherbilly said:
Why launch the Tinkerer change until all those affected have been properly addressed? Nobody is dying for this terrible, half-baked version of Tinkerer to hit live.

I think they just want to get rid of tinkerer as soon as possible, before adding the next killer, that won't be able to use it. And I feel like they wanted to get rid of those who use Tinkerer with Huntress and Hillbilly in the first place. With LF the issue is, that people aren't asking for a buff that much. So I feel like they aren't even seeing the problems with his AddOns and ability.

  • @Tsulan said:
Problem with the report system is, that people abuse it to report useless #########.
Like "you camper! Reported! Enjoy your ban!" Or "my team was #########, I'll report them for being bad".

This stuff was probably the reason why they removed the old report page.
So the new system should be really clear about what is reportable and what not. But people will probably still report nonsense.

Doing false or rage reports in online games is quite common in other systems as well. It might be that those can handle reports better, because with Dedicated servers e.g. it's easier to automaticly send a log of the after game chat log e.g. And they might use some kind of filter system as well. I mean you don't need to catch every case of cheating or abuse, as long as you the amount of those yu catch and punish is big enough to discourage people commiting them.

I think it might help if the report system would be mandatory more detailed/complicated. So that you even can just start a draft for such a report after game and add all the finishing evidence later.

  • I agree, to most people here making his shimmer distance dependend (maybe 32 m) would buff him and make his playstyle more interesting. It would also give the Devs an opportunity to rework some of his AddOns to make them more usable. Current meta is Swift-Hunt+Windstorm because others are just unreliable. Since his disapperance time is already quite buffed and short, maybe Blink-AddOns could reduce that distance a little bit as well, so we might see a few sneaky wraith builds.

Once it goes live, I'm planning on telling every survivor who complains, that they missed their chance to change the nerfs.

To be fair there was a lot feedback on the exhaustion nerf and the devs responded to it during the last stream. It's clear that they already decided the nerf is coming. The only thing people might have talked about are some of the perk changes and probably the hag/trapper buff from the survivor side of things.

I personally expect the 2.1.0 patch coming soon. Maybe with a few tweaks, but mostly like it was on the PTB.

The nerf is coming. But Survivors could have helped to adjust the actual numbers of the nerf. Devs even said that they should play on the PTB. But since they missed their chance to soften the blow...

which numbers? Exhaustion doesn't regenerate while running. That's it. There were some complains about Sole Survivor and the BNP numbers, if I remember correctly. But not much.
But to be honest I belong to those people who only tried out the changes in KYF and than had barely any intend to play public PTB. Changes are quite minimal and I still have to grind bp for my killers.Besides the waiting times were far too long for both sides. The PTB never really pulled off quite well.

  • Marth88 mentionedduring a stream that he will make a video about why he is leaving DbD behind. But I'm pretty sure, that mostly the thing with the tournament is the main reason why he came to that conclusion.
Tyde just seems still to like the game, but is interested to play other stuff he has fun with as well. To be honest, it really doesn't matter that much as long the community stays alive like it is now.
There might be new DbD streamer people will watch instead. Like the game is chanign over time, the community changes as well.

I do not buy that que times would get longer for anyone but the SWF. Basically the Killer would all go where there is no SWF. Once SWF realized that no Killers actually want to play their version of the game, They will either stop playing or solo que like the game was designed.

Before SWF was implemented in the game people tried to get into the same lobby by searching at the same time and leaving lobbies, when it didn't happened. If killers were allowed to opt-out swf, people will return to this behaviour trying to play with their friends. And that would turn matchmaking into a nightmare. More broken lobbies and expand waiting times.

  • No it only effects the killer's terror radius. Sounds like the huntress' lullaby is not effected.

  • @Envees said:
Remove coms by blacklisting them and watch how many people start to suck as surv and watch how many mediocre killers become better. Watch how the cheating swf crews quit. This is why they will never remove swf and they will never penalize the group that has the potential to buy the most DLC/cosmetics. Not removing swf/coms is purely a financial decision.

People are social beeings and they just want to talk with their friends while playing a game together. They are not using Coms with the intend to "cheat". They use it to be social. And yes they take their advantage from it, but this game would die, if with Comms the social aspekt of SWF would go away.
And by the way, bad survivors with Coms are still bad survivor. If they fall fast in a chase, comms won't save them and their team. Of course sharing information gives them an advantage, but in my experience a good survivor has a natural awareness when it's safe to do a gen, or where the killer is. I rarely rely on my mates and what they are saying. And even, if I don't know where the killer is headed, I would still have SB, or a safe spot close by.
I personally don't think that SWF is the main problem of this games. The only reason, while Solo Survivor teams are doing horrible, is because you can easily run into surviors, that don't play as a team. They reckles farm others, sandbag, play only with the hatch in mind etc. Stuff you can avoid with SWF, of course.
But even with four randoms that have at least an idea of what they are doing, a killer would have a bad time, because of the imbalance and might even assume they are SWF. Believe me I played with randoms, that played quite decent. And you barely see a difference then in performance.

It would take nearly no time nor resources to deal with Leatherface's problems, Freddy requires an entire rework of his power.

Thing is, that I assume that they would want to rework his basekit together with his AddOns, considering they want to bring all killers into the 4-5-5-4-2 like they did with Trapper.
I assume they would like to handle him together with Hillbilly, considering they share AddOns. I just hope they reconsider some stuff and help to make them more different.
