I've said it before and I'll say it again: removing player agency is bad game design. The best the devs can do is incentivize killers to leave hook or deincentivize staying near hook, both of which they already do. There is no such thing as a hard solution to face camping.

Funny you should say that when that's exactly the problem that comes with this exact situation: there is no agency for those involved, other than the killer.

At current, there actually isn't any incentive given to leave, outside of a bandaid perk (which shouldn't be necessary to fix bad game design) in BBQ or any mechanic that actually disincentivises leaving. There is a BP loss that is almost no change to what they get anyway as it is, and I've already agreed to adding things in like baseline weaker pop if you hook and leave etc.

  • I mean I've explained this above. I've been playing against it and the instant I see it (I expect it anyway at this point) I look for bones on the way to gens. (Which I also already did before coming across facecamping every game) Some maps (again, I said depending on map) you literally can't find them all and if you're solo you have no way of knowing they're done by other players while not having enough time to do them and the gens if someone is being facecamped. This means no matter what, two players will die. The fact you don't know if all totems are gone despite trying to find and do them all means it's probably more.

Funny thing is, I'm surviving the majority of my games. I'm not just pointing out the problem because I want to survive. Hell, earlier I was praising a killer who destroyed my team because they didn't facecamp and were actually pretty good at killer. Their response was an acknowledgement this was a problem and the line 'SBMM sucks' lol

But I guess good job trying to mock me. :)

There is a way to counter it, it's called doing gens and forcing the killer to lose. If he wants to sacrifice the win just to camp one survivor. Oh well. Thats his choice

Point missed completely. And that isn't countering it. They have noed? Free 2k with a potential skilless snowball depending on the map.

No, that's boring. Survivors should be able to jump off of first hook, instantly heal themselves, force the killer to teleport to the far side of the map and cleanse a totem in order to remove a hook state.

While we're at it, survivors should spawn into the game on their last hook, in the basement.

This is my experience too. This whole narrative that camping is just a tactic for inexperienced Killers and low ranks doesn't add up to me. Plenty of Killers in (formerly) red ranks camp ALL. THE. TIME. In fact, I'd wager that's how they got there in the first place.

My friend just coaxed me into trying to play tonight. 4 matches. EVERY Killer camped or proxy camped.

The last was a Ghostface who hooked a survivor at 5 gens, just cloaked behind a rock, and I was just done. I refused to engage. Just let him hook me with no chase and killed myself. I can't take the frustration anymore. It's almost an exercise in lunacy to pay for things in a "game" that does nothing but irritate players. The Bloodpoints from these matches are absolutely abysmal and it's all just not worth it.

I can't agree more, tbh. And it's not like my killer games haven't been made more frustrating too, so I can't just go to that mode to chill like I used to. I'm simply playing to get archives done and in the hopes that maybe a system that does nothing to detect skill in any fashion, will somehow balance out and detect skill (shocker: survival time/rate being the only real factors in 'skill' rating of a game won't give good results. It's as if whoever made this new system has no idea how the game works. Do they even play it?)

Lot's of variables,Yes certain killers make it very difficult to unhook. But you can rescue if you have coordination, going in one at a time is just silly, going in as a group of 3 with borrowed time and a flashlight etc can help you even the odds.

If they can incentivise killers leaving, like adding a baseline pop after hooking, you do 10% damage to a generator more than "x" meters away from the hook.

Against some killers you defnitely can do that, yeah, but others you really can't unless they really mess up, such as Bubba and my lord have I seen a lot of insidious bubbas recently!

Honestly decent idea. I also think the point reduction for camping needs to be massively increased, but more incentive at basekit like that would certainly be a fair but minor gamechanger.

Another thing that just gets forgotten, something that can be implemented easily in a hotfix: give a survivor being facecamped chaser, lightbringer and benevolent points for opting to stay in the game when being facecamped. It's not hard to tell it's happening and implement such a system, and it would honestly decrease the frustration level to some degree given that it's one of the major problems plenty of people have with it.

  • @Barbarossa2020 said:

Most killer's percieve 4 v 1 as a imbalance. Removing even a potato from the game is helpful. Dead potatoes can't do gens.

There is little point chasing god looper's through jungle gyms when you can take out easy prey that can hold m1 and press space every 15 secs.

It puts pressure back on survs. Im not a fan of face camping, i don't do it but i understand why people do it. However the solution is in the game. Do your gens and leave. If you reward that facecamping Bubba he will continue to use it.

I get your point but I'm not really talking about tunneling; I get tunneling!

Facecamping is just another beast and you say you understand why but most people do it literally because they know nothing can be done against it especially if they play the right killers and that it ruins any chance of fun for the other side.

I actually do use the solution of doing gens and totems to leave, but it will always end with a free 2k for the killer, because gens can't fly fast enough to beat it especially when you need to stop the noed snowball. Have had to do this so much recently and it's incredibly unfun, only to have to do it in concurrent games, repeatedly. SBMM is awful and the cause of this trash.

One of the interesting things I see in threads like this is how immediately the response is to say "sweaty SWFs" like I've been accused of playing with friends when SoloQ just because I get competent teammates that actually do things while I'm on a chase... but then I don't like to sweat in matches and just sigh when I end up being camped for no reason.

Not that long ago, I was tunnelled by a Killer right off the start of the match and I asked why and he said I quote "You should run DS, UB, BT and DH if you don't want to be tunnelled, baby Survivor" which I find amusing because I don't have the need to sweat matches.

My argument will always be the same... I don't care if I survive the match, I just want to actually get to play.

Exaclty man. I don't care about 1-2 gen left camping; I care about camping when maybe 1-2 gens are done and the games been going a few minutes only. This isn't a competitive game and most people don't play in that awful way.

  • @TacitusKilgore said:

They tried it before ages ago, and survivors abused the mechanic so badly it was removed nearly instantly. Its just something we have to live with, anti-camping measures will always inevitably be abused in a way that massively discourages playing killer. Its just a sad part of the game we have to live with, camping exists and theres little that can be done about it without it becoming a balance issue.

That one idea was abused and then not reiterated on is very telling since it means they do recognise its an issue but can't be bothered to deal with it over other issues. Fact is, the implementation they had didn't then get obvious number changes for range/even changes to what counts as 'chase' in order to deal with the abuse, so nothing changed. At least at that point it wasn't so common.

Now we need more than bandaid perks when some like BT can't exactly do something about Bubba and another idea would be to start completely changing the functionality of staple camping perks such as Monstrous Shrine (why does this not have a use other than to counter camaraderie if you want to camp lmao) and make Insidious be chase specific rather than a blatant camping perk lol

  • @0mikeya0 said:

I think I remember the devs saying they were going to make camping less enticing

They also said that keys were getting nerfed soon as they were in the middle of implementing it months ago and yet last week we found out they're still in the phase of spitballing ideas, so I have no faith.

  • @Exxodus21 said:

Why should a killer be prevented from securing a kill? Should survivors have a limit on how many seconds they can work on a gen without leaving it?

Why should a survivor be prevented from playing a game and then be forced to stay in said game that they're not even allowed to take part in lest they get the blame for the results of the game?

I say the same for killers in that question too, tbf.

Securing a kill toward the end is not the issue; doing this at the beginning, with no way of countering it, is.

@Yankus It's almost as if that's not an excuse given that this is almost always without the presence of SWFs.

@Jasix gee it's almost as if it's a legitimate problem that has suddenly risen for most players.

@blankfaced whataboutism isn't relevant and most maps these things don't even exist anymore lol

  • The worst experience I've ever had playing this game.

Facecamping every game when I play survivor, with brand new teammates vs 7k hour killer mains.

As killer, I constantly get grouped with the sweaty SWF SEAL team 6 types which used to happen maybe 1 in 15-20 games max.

I don't run sweaty builds; I play for fun and meme around. This ######### needs reverting.

Gen rushing has been increasing since the sbmm dropped. Who would have thought that killers lose the will to play normal, when they lose 3 gens in the first chase?

I agree, the SBMM is a placebo and I have multiple evidence to that (solo queue only!)

I had a game with someone who legit just bought the game. He stated this after the game was done and I saw he was a ash rank. The killer was Iri 1.

The other night I encountered the exact SAME killer 3 times in a row. Me and my teammates getting stomped every single game, yet I kept getting matched with him (PC/NA crossplay on)

Two consecutive days in a row I encountred the exact SAME hacker (I reported him with video evidence). How can I be the exact same MMR for 2 days when one person can NEVER lose a game cause he is a hacker?

So yeah thats more than enough proof for me the MMR is either a big fat lie or it is flat out not working at all.

Also proof that claims that reports do anything are false. But dang, that's crazy you got them twice.

    Not great at all.

It's my first game on this morning, I felt like I had to practically carry the team by doing 2 solo gens, going for like 3 hook rescues because they kept going down at the same hook trying to finish a gen that was halfway as well as loop the Legion for probably about 4-5 minutes total. Aaand then just as the final gen pops I go down and the killer had NOED.

    Fun.

That's SBMM. Been getting these teammates against high rank killers who seemingly mostly facecamp. Guess it evens out in their system's mind because I'm of higher skill? :')

    Ridiculously bad.

I think it'll just be best to pay attention to the hooks, if a possible ds user is doing the box just let them, not a huuge deal.

It's literally the strongest part of your power...you can't just let them do it for free. And if they're across the map from you doing it, they aren't exactly being tunneled. It's a big deal.

  • This is basically me on both roles, except for some times when I want to chill and I do ruin/undying and meme around with my power as blight, so ez.

  • @Bwsted said:

So-called secondary objectives built into killers' powers don't affect DS (mending, snapping out of it, SAW boxes, etc.).

They're not game-progressing actions, but interactions with killer abilities.

As such, the Lament Configuration shouldn't deactivate DS.

See, I get this logic however we have to remember that the person with DS doesn't have to do this; it's an optional objective.

If a survivor with DS intentionally tries to solve rather than holding it, knowing they have DS, it should be deactivated. Especially if they're healthy, which this person was.

Mending, Snapping Out, Saw boxes are all non-optional objectives, and one of them you need to do within chase just to avoid being blinded by how dark the screen goes.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2487540#Comment_2487540

Part of the problem is Killers, and no doubt Survivors, who have intentionally dropped their MMR. There are also a lot of people in Ranks they should not be playing. Too many boosted Survivors, too many Killers who have learned the easy way to play and just suck up overly altruistic Survivors into their camping web rather than chasing and earning the kill. Rank used to be almost purely based on time played, there was no skill involved at all. Now, it's going to show skill levels as they really are, not just because you played for X number of matches or hours.

That's just a part of Rank 1 (or it's MMR equivalent) gameplay though. It will be sweaty, full of tryhards on both sides, and full of completely unbalanced gameplay. Simple fact is, if you don't want to play at that level, and realistically who would unless you really enjoy being competitive, then you can just drop your MMR rank. They have been collecting it for months though, so it won't be an overnight thing. It'll take a week or two, I am assuming this though. I definitely could be, and probably am, wrong about MMR works.

I've always played in the same fashion as a Survivor and a Killer. I play to win of course, but I do not sweat it. Fun, little competitive, but I'm not out to escape or 4k. I'm out to have some fun. If Killers want to camp and tunnel, I'll take the death and move on. Same with my team mates. If they're helping and we're doing good co-op stuff, I'm down to play all night in the same match. If they're being selfish pricks and doing stupid things like unhooking me in the Killer's face without BT, I'm probably just going to let the Entity take me. You have to adjust how you are playing to how everyone else is playing. Decent, fun team mates, try to max out every score category. Bad ones, well BP as much as you can and then you die. There's always another match to come.

Killer side of things, it's exactly the same. If they are sweaty tryhards, I'll focus on one aspect of my gameplay. Right now it's chases. I'm not very good with them, so I'll take opportunities to fix that as they come. If I get kills, that's great. More BP = a win to me. I've got 4 P3 Killers to max out right now and the Cenobite will be a 5th. I'm not going to sweat the kills though, that just isn't fun to me. Huntress/Slinger/Trickster shots, where to put traps for Hag/Trapper and push Survivors into them, effectively stalking and downing Survivors with Myers, and every other aspect of specific Killers and their powers. I generally get at least 1 person who is interested in doing this with me as well, so I can let the other 3 do their gens and leave and still reap some nice BP rewards at the end.

Overall though, I am legitimately high purple -> low red in Rank, and that seems to be where MMR stuck me. Not so low that my team mates are potatoes, but not so high that I have to sweat just to safety on my Grade. More like a pickup football game between friends, or something similar. You get competitive a bit, but it's not professional. Just a group of people having fun doing something they like. You get the occasional game that is tryhard from one side or the other, but those from my experience are outliers. Just random chance giving you the bad end for a minute or so, then it's back to the good stuff.

It seems to have placed my killer better than my survivor. Which is weird, because I play more survivor since I only really play this game when friends want to.

That said, I felt it was too high for killer. I had 5 games in a row against rank 1 sweaty SWFs. I've never had more than maybe one or two of these types of groups in a 20 game streak. Don't get me wrong, i still had the slightly higher than 50% winrate so technically it placed me correctly. But it just wasn't that fun; for the most part I was playing pinhead and learning his bugs etc, and there was a ton of survivors intentionally trying to harass me knowing they were in a position I couldn't do anything about it.

Meanwhile, facecamping rank 1 killers with low skill teammates for me as survivor. Again, technically it works out because I survived more than half of the time, which is what I worried about:

people said it would get rid of bad teammates for higher skilled/more experienced players. What I feared, and what appears to have happened, is that the devs focused only on making the games 50/50 win/loss chance for both teams in every game. And in order to balance out games for some survivors that generally survive a lot, it means giving them teammates for whom the game is fresh. I have almost 2.2k hours in this game. Under no circumstances should an MMR based matchmaking system be putting me in games alongside players with maybe 2 or 3 hours in the game.

On the flip side, idk what happened for me to get a baby Huntress player for the one game that I grouped up with 3 friends. Something is really broken and I get the feeling that they're hiding this fact. I guess we'll see next week if they decide to do something.

I'd read up on Clive Barker before making assumptions. Also, have you.. SEEN WHAT HE CREATED? More importantly, consider the time period he created Hellraiser in. Granted the 80's were very metal/cocaine fueled times, but that was on the more extreme/entertainment end. The majority of people were still far more traditional than not.

Oh I know it's inconsistent with his catalogue of creations/works, but it does really seem like it's the case.

  • P3 all characters.

    Play well.

    Have fun.

Not necessarily in that order, however honestly the idea of having fun playing this game atm is a meme at this point seeing as each patch just gets worse and the community exacerbates the problems by playing into them a ton, too.

Exactly, if the license holders got bent out of shape, it's pretty pathetic on their part. Let's face it, Hellraiser is a franchise that had one good movie over 30 years ago, if anything the jokes will help people remember what the hell it is. It's sad that BHVR gives the license holders so much control in their agreements. Currently, DBD is far more popular than the Hellraiser franchise, BHVR should have the power in those negotiations.

I get them having complications with Stranger Things, but Hellraiser? That shouldn't happen.

The license holder is an old man so probably doesn't get that it's just a joke and would likely be horrified as a result.

Hoping MMR stays around and levels me out in whatever Ranking this area is, cause my matches have been the best since I first bought the game, when Hag was new and fresh and I had no clue ######### I was doing. Solo queue ftw!

You can just go to them and hit them. They'll leave right away. And yes, that is still dealing with it, since their time is limited where before they had infinite time to waste yours.

  • This idea should have been in the game so long ago. The fact is that iuf you get a bad killer or bad survivors, you can end up literally unable to get many points at all, but allowing gen progress to give more points for example means you dont get punished for the killer tunnel visioning one person all game and being able to cap out on gatekeeper after a long game where no gens got done somehow would have the same effect.

  • @Barbarossa2020 said:
