This is a game for children. It is marketed towards young teens.
I am sorry, but if you think that FNAF is anywhere near something like Psycho, Alien, The Thing etc. etc. or even something like Dead Space, early Resident Evil titles or Outlast, you're crazy.
There aren't any surveys conducted, but I think it's pretty obvious who they are marketing towards.
This is actually why I'm disappointed. I have nothing against FNAF itself. My kids (9 and 7) are actually massive fans, and I have spent alot of money on merchandise for them (and most of the merchandising is marketed for children, not adults), and that there is the problem for me. My concern is that the license will attract kids to this game. And before anyone points out the game is 18+, we know that doesn't matter to alot of parents. I don't think a young and immature influx of players will benefit the game. Just my personal view. I also think most games, for the longest time, will be against Springtrap. And I think it will get old fast. In terms of player numbers, this license will be a windfall for BHVR. But I can't say I don't think it will be to the detriment of the game. At least for awhile.

That was hilarious 😂

I’d like to point out that this enduring philosophy as told by DBD killer mains only applies from killer to survivor. It does not work with survivor to killer or survivor to survivor. Survivors are responsible, somehow, for the fun of killers and survivors are also responsible for their own fun. The only people not responsible for anyone’s fun but their own are killers.
Yeah it generally is. I kind of take the view though that alot of people play both sides, usually with a preference of course, but the same killers who don't care whether the survivors have fun probably also don't care whether their team mates have fun when they play survivor.
-
Unfortunately you may have heard the community mantra of "your fun isn't my responsibility." Many players don't care about how their actions affect the enjoyment of others.

Mine were like 60-90 seconds a few days ago, but generally I don't have to wait more than 30 seconds, usually less.
Yeah, I've never had queue issues before so it was a bit odd. Funnily enough though, every game I actually had team mates who were perfectly matched to me. My games felt great. If the devs weren't on break I'd honestly have thought they were playing around with matchmaking. The games felt good so the queue time wasn't a huge issue for me.
-
My queues were a few minutes long a couple days ago but they're better now
-
I think the ones that are in a SBMM bracket they don't belong in feel this way, because obviously they get challenging opponents that they cant keep up with. My understanding is that it's easier to increase your MMR than decrease it, so killers, for example, who rely on things like tunnelling to win every game may inadvertently wind up facing opponents they aren't yet ready for. They start getting opponents that tunnelling doesn't work on because these are experienced players that know the tiles like the back of their hand, and now they're stuck. I think it's fine if people want to be in the top MMR bracket. It's an admirable goal. But the devs aren't going to change the game to make it easier for them to compete at that level. The best of the best are up there for a reason.

I think you might have misunderstood me. When I said you don't want to keep someone around when they want to leave, I meant that you do not want to prevent them from leaving the match by removing the 4%, for the reasons I described above. I'd rather let them leave than put up with their griefing.
"I'd rather let them leave than put up with their griefing"
I feel the same. I don't stop anyone from trying to leave now, even if they're on hook right near me. Support don't ban or punish griefing - I've wasted enough time recording griefing team mates, uploading to YT, then sending it to Support to know. I'm yet to get an in-game notification that action was taken against someone griefing. I think it's a low priority report for Support.
-
I believe I'm on the NEA server and honestly, my team mates lately (in event mode) have been on my level. It's actually been great. So whatever is happening, I'm personally okay with it lol
-
It's basically learn as you go. There's not really any proper tutorial. I think BHVR rely on content creators for that (which comes with a whole host of other problems I don't need to list). Alot of people also only play casually, so someone who has 500 hours spread over a year likely won't be at the same level as someone who has 500 hours spread over, say, 6 months. I'm sure I'm not the only one that feels a bit rusty when I have gaps between my play periods. Add to the fact that we get new killers to learn to play as or against and new maps to learn to navigate quite frequently, and those who only play casually can take a long time to comfortably adjust.
Not sure how they could make it more accessible. Better matchmaking would be a start but we know that's easier said than done.
-
My kids love FNAF and while there is alot of merch, most of it seems aimed at a younger audience. My kids have plushies, lego-like sets, figurines, and even the novels are aimed at a younger audience as my 9 year old enjoys them and they're written pretty simple. DBD is specifically geared toward an older audience and I don't think we are into merch as much as kids are. I have the DBD comics, board game, a couple of hoodies, and the youtooz (and honestly, I think the latter aren't worth the money). So basically, I don't think DBD would stand to make as much money from merch as FNAF does.
I do know they had statues, the name of the company who makes them escapes me, and I did contemplate buying them (think I saw Trapper, Hillbilly, and Spirit) but i was looking at like several hundred bucks for each. Couldn't justify the cost.
-
I had a Myers stalking me from a distance while I was on a gen, and a snowman slowly staggered next to me and stopped. Blocked me from view so I kept doing the gen. I laughed ngl but felt bad for the Myers lol
-
I used to care more back when I used to bring items. I stopped when Weave came out and I guess got used to not bringing them because I have no desire to now. So bp isn't as exciting to me as it used to be but it's still nice to pour into my favourites.

Yeah I'm pretty sure I saw Skermz get 8 in a row last week, one right after the other

I've been in genuine disbelief over this map's rework since it was released, and still in disbelief that it hasn't been touched since. The devs are apparently happy with it... why?

I wouldn't mind seeing some change to Knock Out, and maybe some revamping of the Daily challenges finally.
Daily challenges are so outdated. They need to just give us 3 survivor and 3 killer ones each day. I always seem to get Blight challenges and I've never even played Blight.
-
Merry Christmas! It's hot here so I'll stay cool instead 😅
-
Yeah it's bad. When Taurie was released I had several games where people would try it out, and the time investment absolutely contributed to the matches losses. I know the devs have stats on all this and there's no way those stats don't show games typically snowballing in the killer's favour as soon as someone starts Invocating in the basement. If I want to know where the killer is I can just bring Alert.
-
Ok so this explains why so many team mates keep dropping items to me 🤣 it just clicked that they're giving presents!
-
I got it within seconds at the start of the match. Make a snowman from a snow pile, walk forward a few seconds in it, then run out.
-
It'd be too much a new player stomper. Experienced players are okay playing injured (see popularity of old MFT), but new players aren't. Plus with how bad matchmaking can be, it would make solo q even more miserable because you still get that one or two every so often that will always be healing up, regardless of what MMR level you're at.

That wasn't the point of my post. The point was that body-blocking in instances where like this, where you get crows, should make you lose collision or something else to solve the matter. I didn't raise as a question about whether this is or should be bannable or can be reported or not.
Tbf that wasn't clear in your initial post (it's good you edited it). If you'd mentioned losing collision in the OP then the conversation would have been different as alot of the community agree that should be a thing. Even if they did implement it, whether it would still be active in EGC would be anyone's guess though since EGC seems to be anything goes these days.

For survivor, Survivor just got free 10 seconds of extra hook timer, free borrow time and all their anti-tunnel and game-delay options are about as strong as before. The main nerf in survivor patch is dead hard.
killer's got 10 second of extra gens. that's it. to get 10 second for gens, their game-delay perks are significantly worse than before. it is like killer got nothing and survivor just got free omega buffs with like… basically no downside?
i wouldn't say the patch was failure, more so that it went in right direction for both sides but not enough was improved for killer compare to survivor.
I think you're getting your updates confused. DS deactivated in endgame after 6.1, which is when it was most strongest. So no, anti-tunnel perks were not as strong.
And killers got reduced hit cooldown, and survivors got less distance after a hit. One of the primary goals of 6.1 was to increase the kill rates from 50% to 60%, which they achieved within 2 months of that update as a result of the aforementioned killer buffs.
And their game delay perks are worse now because when they were buffed in 6.1, they were used by alot of killers to stall games out to an hour. Killers shot themselves in the foot with that one.

Do you have a source for that please? I am very sure what you are quoting is talking about a different situation that doesn't apply here.
Bodyblocking the Killer as Survivor = no problem (unless it's some kind of exploit where the Killer is unable to hit you but also becomes unable to move because of you)
Bodyblocking Survivors as Killer = only a problem if you do it for a long period of time, because then it becomes holding the game hostage
Bodyblocking Survivors as Killer during endgame = not a problem because the game is progressing, it's not holding the game hostage
Bodyblocking other Survivors as Survivor = griefing / holding the game hostage (if it's done for too long - if it's briefly/on accident then obviously not a problem)
Working with the Killer and bodyblocking another Survivor = not holding the game hostage in this case because of the endgame timer, but it is working with the Killer, which is against the rules (https://support.deadbydaylight.com/hc/en-us/articles/4408581146516-What-actions-will-result-in-a-temporary-ban - "GRIEFING: INTENTIONAL GAMEPLAY ABUSE")
If the Survivors can only bodyblock because the Killer is also helping, then maybe the Killer is also violating the rules (= working together with the Survivors, but not holding the game hostage). The other Survivors for sure though are working with the Killer, and the endgame timer being active doesn't matter for that rule.
I'm not sure what you mean by me talking about a different situation. OPs complaint is being bodyblocked, and since it is EGC it won't be actionable. The killer working with survivors is another issue (that OP didn't raise, others did).
If you want the sources re the claim i made (regarding EGC bodyblockin)g, I've attached them here

I am beyond myself with gratitude. 💐💐💐
Sincerely, I love horror. I love this game. And I love this community. I’ve always found a home in the horror genre- I’m sure many of us can relate. For one reason or another we are all here enjoying this game together.
@TheSingularity (pre and post 😊)
@CountOfTheFog 😊😄💐
@Shroompy 😊😄💐
+ Everyone else I didn’t list!!! 💐💐💐
I’m a huge fan of being the change you want to see. The above people have demonstrated a willingness to be that change while remaining their authentic selves. I see Dbd reflected in every single person listed and on this forum. These people will give you the best that they have to offer. Why not match that passion and be the change you want the dbd community to become? Why not? It can happen. They can help you get there.
I wanted to thank @For_The_People for being the first person from the forums that I’ve ever played Dbd with. He is a very sweet person who will give you his time of day in earnest if you need him to. He’s one of the prime examples of politeness in this community. Thank you for being a positive force in the community. 😊😊😊
Lastly I need to thank @solarjin1 . What can I say? When you meet a friend that gets you, you both just know it. Her courage to be funny and humorous are so infectious. She told me that the small pallet in rpd was the most op pallet. I was so naive of game knowledge that I believed her! LMAO! After that I realized that it was anything goes when it came to humor with her. I’m at my best when I can be silly. Solarjin1 is that friend who brings out the best in me. Thank you Solarjin1 for all the laughs and for the laughs to come 😂 I’m going to be collecting🤣🤣🤣
None of this would be possible if we didn’t have a phenomenal community team here to support us discussing this twisted hobby we all have. Thank you again to everyone at Bhvr for putting your hearts and souls (ha!) into everything that is Dbd.
They say you attract more flies with honey than with vinegar…
Let’s just use blood instead 🩸😈🩸
Happy Holidays everyone, I hope everyone stays safe and has a wonderful New Years 😊🎉

https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/435316/entire-sections-of-maps-are-just-blank
The point is that when you know you're going down, especially late game, you take your chases to dead zones to keep the killer away from getting gen pressure.
Usually these areas do have a few pallets and windows, they aren't meant to be permanent safe areas they are meant to be strategic and actually benefit survivors when used properly.
They are also great places to regroup and heal since killers generally have no reason to explore that area.
It's a team game, it's not about you just escaping that chase, you need to think more team oriented about progressing the match.
There's very few maps that are just bad or entirely one sided, but on that point some maps are survivor sided too so I don't get the complaint.
OP isn't referring to gens, they're referring to pallets/survivor resources. Areas of the map that aren't spawning resources from the start of the game.
Historically, early game has been stronger for survivors than late game. Because they have all their resources at their disposal at the start of the game. As they use those resources, dead zones begin to develop. The point OP is making is that from the start of the match there are more and more dead zones with no resources at all. This is something many people have noticed recently.

My main issue is that the Meta Shake-Up did change the perks but did not changed the perk archetypes that were meta so it ultimately fell flat and simply just shifted the issues into a new position.
It did not solve regression being basically necessary, it only changed what perks you were required to run every game. In a similar sense, it didnt shift the Survivor meta that much either, and Dead Hard still became one of the most used perks even after the update.
If you look at is solely "did the perks that were meta shift to other perks?" then yes, it was "successful" in that regard. But in the greater picture of DBD, I feel like it ultimately negatively affected the game in the long run.
Alot of complaints from the playerbase were about seeing the same perks every game. So in that regard, I'd say they were successful at shaking things up. I recall DH practically disappearing for a period of time, before slowly starting to slink its way back in. Re regression, the devs did increase gen times by 10s, so an extra 50s total to complete 5 gens. So they may have felt that would address the need for gen regression perks at the time.
-
I was a supporter of it way back when. I think in general their intentions were fine - increase kill rates (successful) and shake up the meta a bit (successful) - but they didn't seem to have a back up plan for anything that didn't work out.
It took them several months (9 months iirc) to address the resulting gen kick meta, for example, which I think is a contributing factor to alot of the negativity we see in the game nowadays. Imagine how many players picked up the game in those several months, who had no idea what killer was like before so as far as they knew that was simply the norm. Then it's suddenly taken away. How many now didn't know how to play without it? and still to this day can't get the same great results for minimum effort that they got back then? I imagine they're still resentful. Actually I know they're still resentful, we hear from them still to this day that that period was fine and survivors were at fault. And yes, they likely fell onto strats like tunnelling as a result.
It feels like since that update the devs have had to slap band aids repeatedly over various leaks that have continuously spouted since.

While I dislike survivors like that with a passion, the fault lays with the game, because it allows them to do so.
Why is it bannable yet so easy to do for players? Maybe prevent it instead of making it bannable.
For body blocking? Yes, they could make it so you lose collision after a certain amount of time. But I guess since they've said it's valid in EGC they're probably hesitant to touch that

Yes this is one of the reasons I no longer play outside of events. One or two maps I can reason that maaaybe the map balancing team went a little bit overboard that day. But as time goes on its happening to more and more maps, unannounced of course, and it's become evident that this is intentional. There's nothing more disappointing than loading into a map and running the length of one side and realising it's just a massive deadzone. No resources.
I'll add that those useless edge map tiles on newer maps are a big part of the problem. If they've programmed it so only a certain amount of pallets spawn, then what happens when RNG spawns them mostly along the edge? Game is over before it's even began
-
No, you're fine. That room is set up that way on purpose, it's a risky gen and can be a death trap if you don't run early. I don't even touch that gen against stealth killers

What are you talking about? Its clearly a bannable offense (working with the killer).
The survivor can be banned for that.
Not sure if you've ever reported survivors for working with the killer but in my experience nothing is done about that unfortunately. I've spent time recording and uploading info several times and working with the killer has consistently never resulted in even a slap on the wrist. I'd be surprised if anyone has ever been banned for that offence.

ECG or not this shouldn't be possible. It really isn't fun to die at the exit gate like that because you don't want to farm.
Mandy has said before that in EGC it's not actionable unfortunately. I agree it sucks. I refuse to farm too but have only once or twice been punished by the other players for it. One time was by two of my team mates and thankfully the killer wasn't happy on my behalf and killed both those players and let me escape.

I had a Pinhead today stand in front of his Ruin totem as soon as we loaded in, and he remained there the entire match. Everyone just did gens, the box, had a brief snowball fight at shack, then left. He didnt budge the whole game. Considering I've never been in a situation where someone has successfully used BGP to save me when there's 2 of us left, followed by us both hiding, I don't know what you do and honestly i dont care. I doubt you have to worry about it too much when it happens in that 1% of your games. Meanwhile, I'm slugged for the 4k in majority of the games where I'm one of the last two. I walk into a restaurant that I know the steak will come totally butchered and not at all how it was advertised.
The server hands me a plate full of beets. There's no steak.
Do I continue going to that restaurant?
Do I force myself to keep ordering, hoping one day to get the steak?
Do I start changing my own expectations of what steak is, and tell myself that "tonight, I'm going to order steak but I'm actually going to hope I get the beets."
Listen, I appreciate you trying to make the best of a lack of steak — really, I'm not being ironic.
But I fear we've lost the plot. The game's core is about hunting and being hunted. I want to enjoy the core gameplay that was advertised. Making the best out of beets is honorable, but… give me the damn steak I ordered.
I love this analogy lol honestly, if someone tells me the key to my enjoyment is ignoring the core gameplay mechanics they may as well tell me to just find another game to play. A few years back I was on this very forum saying that I don't focus on escapes, I focus on bp and pipping. This was before the gen kick meta, where I could actually cleanse totems and open chests for bp and emblem points without it affecting the team. But the game has changed since then (imo thanks to the several months of the gen kick meta the devs slept on) and I recognise I'm not the only person playing the match. There are other people whose enjoyment I actually do care about, and they likely want a reliable team mate so that's what I'll try to be.
Regardless, I do only play now when I have something other than escaping to gain and that's during events. If there's no event, I have zero desire to play. There's only so long that bp gains and pips are enough to keep the game from getting stale.
-
The meta might be stale but I don't agree with taking away other players agency. It would basically be the killer setting the conditions of a game that doesn't just revolve around them, because obviously they will ban perks that directly counter their powers or their strategies. There's 4 other people in that game who want to be able to use the tools theyve invested time in obtaining (and possibly money, since theyve paid for certain survivors or killers specifically for those perks). If you don't like the meta then simply don't contribute to it. I've purposely avoided meta perks for years. Be the change you want to see etc etc.
-
I'd love that but I'm pretty sure they retired that event in favour of the Blood Moon event
-
When there's 2 of us left with multiple gens to go, I don't want to keep playing a lost game. Since I, like most people, have limited play time, I want to go to my next match. Anti-slug doesn't help, just hook me please.
-
@Prometheus1092 said:
Personally I think any slugging changes should be carefully thought about. Reason being, many people slug for the 4k. If slugging for 4k was nerfed in any way to prevent the 4k the 60% kill rate that bhvr was aiming for and has achieved would suddenly drop. So killers would need a buff to compensate or survivors would be nerfed so killers can maintain the 60% kill rate. Like when they introduced base kit unbreakable, it tipped the balance way too much, it was abused and subsequently removed.
Basekit UB never made it to live, so had nothing to do with kill rates. It was only tested in a short Finisher Mori PTB.
