  • They said on Reddit they didn't have time to add it to this fix so it's going on the next. Guess I'm just playing the event for the Tome, shame. Solo queue games are too miserable.

I’m convinced this rise in cheating is in protest to the AFK penalty.

I had a killer yesterday who just ran up the stairs and off the balcony of Eyrie until all the gens were done - it’s not going to make any difference.

That killer was grinding the new achievement where you have to fall a certain distance. Eyrie main building is a popular spot to gain progress.

I mean, this sounds stupid but I'm glad it's happening and I hope it gets worse.

The topic has really been neglected for a long time and I always have to laugh when something is written about "arm races" between cheaters and developers.

As of Dec24, there isn't even a basic server validation that would make it a little thing to fix such blatant things, so much for the "arm race".

They'll disable DC penalties before they let it get worse. Not a great start to the seasonal event

Fighting for what to stay? TOTH?

I mean, if he doesn't think TOTH is that good, it makes sense he'd be against a perk he doesn't think is that good getting nerfed. It'd be like, I don't know, This Is Not Happening. I couldn't give two flying turdfucks about that perk because it's so ass, but if it got nerfed, I'd be really confused as to why they nerfed a perk that was so ass.

Feel free to read his post history if you don't understand what I'm talking about. He uses the build and is fighting hard against everyone who says it is busted. Your example would be comparable if you were fighting hard on behalf of This Is Not Happening, which you were unlikely to do if you didn't care about it.

I'm not sure I'd say it's being used in a way bhvr didn't intend. People are complaining about it's core completely intended function. We can argue that function is too strong, but it's weird claiming BHVR didn't intend to have the effect it starts with.

I'm referring to being used with perks like Face the Darkness (and when used by certain killers) to interrupt/restart progress, and essentially making hexes uncleansable unless you happen to have Counterforce and get in at the right time. ToTH is strongest in early game, when all totems are untouched, so it's not a stretch to say it was buffed as a means of addressing frequent complaints around survivors spawning on hexes and taking them out of the game too quickly. I don't think it was a coincidence that ToTH was the totem perk they chose to buff.

Peanits said once before that certain synergies aren't always clear to them when they buff perks, and therefore sometimes they overlook unintended effects. I'd say this counts as one of those instances.

Unfortunately there are some very sad people in any game who will hear that something is broken and they will take full advantage of it until the issue is patched out. The sad reality is there are unscrupulous immoral people who have no issue with using something they know is broken, just to gain any advantage possible. BHVR should have killswitched the perk until they fix it.

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3852689#Comment_3852689

Hex perks are strong and as a balance they are also high risk; high risk/high reward mechanics.

Thrill is not high risk, just high reward and 45 seconds is an eternity in a game like DBD. You can always count on unethical people to fully exploit something they know is broken and this is exactly what is happening here.

The same people will likely come here after TOTH is addressed complaining about survivors being OP, because the perk/builds increased their MMR into a higher bracket and they can't compete without it. I don't know why people embrace busted perks all for the sake of wins. All repeatedly winning does is bring high MMR misery. There's no pile of gold at the end of the SBMM rainbow.

"Reverting TOTH doesn't mean that's it, that the devs are washing their hands at trying to address this" except it kinda does. BHVR HATES making secondary changes once something didn't work out. This WAS their way of trying to address it, it didn't work, so they're done and will simply move onto something else.

Twins and Freddy took years to address and it was simply small number tweaks for Twins that didn't address any of their issues really and they're just leaving them at that. They dont like giving third chances to things and extremely rarely do so they tried once to fix the totems, the problem still exists, they'll just do something else.

Believe it or not, there is a middle ground between hexes being cleansed too fast and hexes being uncleansable. I'm sure it's not too hard to find.

  • Not everyone enjoys the blindness effect on their screen

  • What feels good for you isn't necessarily good for the health and longevity of the game. No matter how much you stamp your feet. ToTH was being used in a way the devs didn't intend. Much like the recent Corrective Action buff - it was addressed because it was being used in a way that wasn't intended, not because everyone cried about it. I get that a perk or build that plays the game for you feels great but it's not all about you.

The fact that the devs were looking at a support for hexes in the first place shows that it's something they are trying to address. ToTH wasn't the way to do it. It's only been around like a week and it amazes me how attached some people are to it already.

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/434432/do-you-think-there-will-be-any-compensation-for-killer-if-thrill-of-the-hunt-gets-nerfed

Nah, killer only get nerfed and punished they dont get something in return. Something like Circle of healing stays in for a year giving everyone a Self-Care for free and additional healing if you heal a other player, but killer stuff allways gets nerfed fast.

It is because only 1/5 of the playerbase is killer and 4/5 are survivor.

Hexes will go back into beeing to weak and irrelevant because they are way to easy to clean and nobody will play em anymore. Suv. only want to play against the same 4 perks again and again and again.

I mean thrill of the hunt doesnt have a better killrate as Painres or Pop, but its something new and survivors dont like to adept their gameplay.

TOTH only hurts hexes more. You have 4 survivors in a game and if even just one survivor comes prepared with Counterforce and/or Small Game and/or a map because theyre expecting TOTH, then imagine how that goes down for the killer who just has Ruin. It will make hexes not worth running at all unless they are paired with TOTH.

Most players agree that hexes can be taken out of a game way too fast. Reverting TOTH doesn't mean that's it, that the devs are washing their hands at trying to address this. It simply means TOTH wasn't the correct way to address this (and frankly should have been tested in PTB before going live).

  • Not a bad idea at all

  • @Crowman said:

This isn't anything new. People will flock to whatever is an effective build when people start talking about it. I remember when DH had a 75% usage.

DH had the 75% usage in high MMR (small minority of players) only. It was something like 25% usage in low MMR and 40% usage in mid-MMR if I'm remembering the stats correctly. The build OP is referring to widespread, it was literally in 100% of my games the last day i played (last week). It'd be because of content creators hyping it up.

  • @danielmaster87 said:

I'd started bringing Counterforce as well. I'm telling you, me and 3 other people who knew how to counter totems, free wins all day. I wouldn't even call TOTH meta, let alone most stuff people call meta. It's literally just noob stomp stuff.

It's interesting you're here claiming it's nothing special, when there's like a hundred posts from you in other TOTH discussions fighting for it to stay. If it's so bad then who cares if it gets reverted.

  • I'd say Thrill of the Hunt will be nerfed because the devs never intended for it to be used to help make totems uncleansable. They likely intended it as a support for hex totems in early game, where sometimes survivors unfortunately spawn right next to hexes and take them out of the game very quick. I doubt their intention was to turn games into totem cleansing simulators. That's why it will be nerfed. Not sure why you'd need compensation, you've only had it for like a week. You'll survive.

By the way since you're all here, have you people experienced worse ping the last few patches? My ping used to be "good", from 65 to 75 but lately it's been 80 at best and goes up to 100 even though my connection is just as fast as before according to speedtest.

No, sorry. I havent had any ping issues

It's been a thing for quite a while, at least 2023

It's just regular players will never see it because it only goes off if you quite literally do nothing. I'm not 100% sure what the conditions are but it's def possible survs are being killed so fast by the cheater that the game thinks they did nothing in the game therefore they were afk the whole time

It might actually be the cheater's reason for doing what they are doing, just to grief.

Yeah I knew they'd implemented it for AFK killers awhile ago, but wasn't sure about survivors. It's just interesting that it's only probably over the last week I've seen people talking about getting a DC penalty when this hack is in play. Prior to that it doesn't seem like people suffered anything beyond an early end to their game against these hackers.

  • This sort of hack is old, it's been around for awhile but never had a DC penalty attached. Wonder if the devs recently implemented a penalty for those who die too early/let go on hook, and now everyone's feeling it thanks to hackers.

  • I'd love the cosmetics tbh lol like Shaggy for Dwight, Fred for Felix, Daphne for Kate, and Velma for Zarina. Maybe a Scooby onesie for Ace?

  • No, nothing that comes to mind. The devs could remove every single perk in the game and I'd be fine playing perkless. If anything, I'd probably just get better at the game alot quicker. I've played Chucky (well, Tiffany) since his release and even though he's had a couple nerfs/adjustments, I havent stopped playing. The only thing that stops me playing something is simply if I stop enjoying it.

Most likely from the legendary skins.

    Surprisingly rare:

From RE - Chris Redfield, Carlos, Sheva

    Somewhat rare:

James Sunderland, Lisa Garland (my main), Tubarao (Renato skin), Cybil Bennet, Maria (all from silent hill)

    Actually rare:

probably the ones I see the least - Rose Marigold (who I have also started playing a lot of) and Saga Anderson both form Alan Wake: Rain (Ellen Ripley).

Probably most rare: Jonathan Byers (Steve Harrington skin).

Of course these are from my observations at my low MMR level so may be different in other skill levels.

I admire your aim tho! Lmk who you choose in the end :)

I'm surprised I don't see more of Rain. I play her alot and find she blends in well with her clothes, she isn't too loud, and she's pretty short so can easily hide behind alot of stuff. I thought she'd be alot more common than she is.

No, it's not. I've seen some content creators label it as the best survivor perk in the game, to which I have to say β€” why is no one running it then?

I'm yet to see a single effective use of this perk in my survivor or killer matches. Actually I'm yet to see it at all as killer. Every time I've tried to do anything with StB, it's just had a net neutral effect on the match. Doesn't seem as effective as people are making it out to be, at least not in casual solo queue matches.

They call it "the best survivor perk" because clicks and views are their income. Play a dozen games, cherry pick the couple of times it sees value, and voila - new clickbait YT video. I love watching content creators (watching one right now in fact as i wrap pressies) but I take alot of what they say with a grain of salt. Hens is my favourite content creator but his live stream using StB didn't sell me on it at all. Despite him also calling it the best survivor perk repeatedly. I respect his experience and insight, but hard disagree with him on that one.

Survivors crying about a perk instead of adapting? Nothing new really

Why should people adapt to something that was never intended in the first place? I doubt the devs buffed ToTH with the intention of it helping make hexes uncleansable. I get it's nice having a build to play the game for you, but you're dreaming if you thought it was going to stick around.

Most of my friends are doing the same.

I know hexes need to be made whole again, but burnout happens much faster now. Regression builds, imo, had more variation in builds as 2 perk slots were all that's dedicated. Now, its always TotH, Devour, H:FtD, and with variance in mind, the 4th slot is usually some other random hex perk.

I also want to admit this is purely solo'q perspective since its 90% of my game time now. TotH is merely over tuned imo. But sending back to vanilla 10% doesn't feel right either. But unless we can cleanse without needing Calm Spirit, Solo'q might as well not exist as its simply makes the queue not worth the time.

Yeah, it's definitely overtuned but hopefully they can still make it useful without sending it back into the ground.

One of my last games a few days ago was against a Trapper who used ToTH with just one other hex perk. He didnt create a build around it to play the game for him, he was actually a decent killer and didnt need to. He just played normally. I thought to myself, 'this is likely how the devs intended it to be used, as a support, but of course this community has to abuse it.'

One of the biggest complaints I see is how quickly hexes can go, especially with survivors sometimes spawning right on top of them. So i feel like BHVR had the right intention, trying to slow down cleansing long enough for the killer to come and chase a survivor off, preferably in the crucial early game. I doubt their intention was to ever make it so totems couldn't be cleansed at all.

  • Thank you! And Merry Xmas to all who celebrate 😊

They will not. It is not tough to find the killer, strategically interrupt what they are doing, and end up hooked. No killer is going to resist killing a survivor. The 4K is just too tantalizing. It bewitches you.

I'll be honest, when I want out I tend to just half-ass my chases. It's really not hard to get out of a game if you want to. Just run in a straight line past all tiles until you're downed lol makes the killer feel good too. Removing self unhooking for first stage won't bother me at all. In the 4 years I've been playing I can probably count on one hand the amount of times I've let go on first hook. Hopefully it would lead to a rework of luck offerings too.

I don't use any of those perks but I'll take your word for it

  • It's your build. Literally every killer is playing the same build, or similar variation, so I'm assuming they're over it. Their mistake though was loading up for a game in the first place, since their next game is likely to be the same sort of build. I'm currently not playing and haven't in a few days because of it. Better to not play than ragequit. Even the streamer I'm literally watching at the moment as I type this is against a ToTH hex build 🀣

  • I fully supported them last time but yeah, I haven't felt the love this year. Sorry BHVR.

  • It's good for older players who have those sorts of shards built up. But yeah, newer players will be waiting awhile unless they pay. I'm glad the shards option is there at least

Im seeing deadzones and just blank spots nonstop on maps now. Entire sections of the map where there is just a single or NO pallets. Or the pallet that is there is like the ones in ormond on tables and a snowman lol.

Not sure what the map logic is turning into but its a bit annoying.

Yeah pallets are just gone. It's dead zones everywhere. It's laughable at this point.

  • I don't think it's normal, it's just a random glitch that happens sometimes. I had it happen once with a pinky finger Clown, who took full advantage of his luck. Another time with a Huntress, we just kind of stared at each other for a few seconds then she decided to take pity on me and left lol

  • @danielmaster87 said:

    Improved matchmaking.

    That would be nice

  • You say that until we see the same stuff that was directed at perks like Distortion now directed at Counterforce. Today its "just equip Counterforce to counter ToTH and its accompanying hex builds," then in a few months it'll be "CF counters too many perks! I can't use a Hex totem anymore because everyone is running Counterforce."

None of this would be an issue if BHVR just calmed down when it came to adjusting old perks. When they removed the bp bonus from PT in the past they didn't buff it to compensate, they actually nerfed it instead. They could have just removed the bp bonus from TOTH without buffing it so considerably, or at all.

Killer perks - new or adjusted - seem to consistently be given the grace of a "wait and see" approach, when all this does is mess with killers MMRs by giving them great results for a matter of months and then taking it away. So many are probably boosted into brackets they don't belong in and then struggle without the perks. See the gen kick meta era. I still see some players bringing that era up even though it's been over for ages, simply because it was the best and easiest time of DBD for them. They got great results with the perks playing the game for them.

So it's not just survivors who have to deal with it, killers aren't happy when this stuff is inevitably taken away either. And I have no doubt TOTH buff will be reverted.

  • I'm aware this was implemented for killer awhile ago, so I guess it's now hit survivor too. I don't think a dev ever confirmed it but there's been plenty of people AFKing as killer who have found themselves with a DC penalty. So it's definitely a thing.

  • I got to pet Snug yesterday! HM killed two of my team mates but then she let the third one wiggle off so I took a chance to pet Snug and she nodded her approval. She brought him to me to pet goodbye as well at the exit gate. My games had been pretty crap until that point so it was nice.

  • "which is the mode they spent years working on"

You answered it for yourself. They've spent years creating a successful game and I doubt they would want to permanently split their time, money, and resources into maintaining two separate modes. It would be to the detriment of the successful 1v4 game they've spent years developing.

  • I've been using anti-totem perks all night. However, I'm not playing DBD to be the team's designated totem cleanser every single game. If every team suddenly needs at least one person doing totems all game in order to progress then there's a problem there. Don't care about changing your mind because I doubt you will.

  • Can't speak for OP but that's literally what I've been doing tonight, and it's barely made a lick of difference. I just spend all game chasing and cleansing totems while my team dies off. Bringing a Rainbow map with Counterforce is when I actually started making a difference but those arent in unlimited supply. If you think this is appealing gameplay I don't know what to say. A team requiring a dedicated totem cleanser to counter the hex build/s in question is going to get old fast.

  • I've been getting this too, it's really frustrating

  • I've been playing her and can't say I've noticed this at all

  • So I jumped on and played three games, came prepared with Counterforce. All 3 killers ran a hex build. First, even with Counterforce everyone was dead at 3 gens left. Killer was very protective of his Hexes. Second game I brought along a Rainbow map with stamp add-ons too and that went alot better. We got down to 1 gen before the game was over. I feel like I spent more time on totems than I did gens. Third game I brought the Rainbow map again and it was on Mothers Dwelling, which is a decent sized map, so I kind of went back and forth hitting Hexes and then returning to take care of the pentimentos. This made me the ire of the killer and they were gunning for me. I died but the other 3 got out, so that was a win. NGL, I don't wanna be playing totem chaser every single game lol

killers are already nerfed. a vast majority of killer are balanced around soloq which is why they're terrible vs swf because something that is balanced around poor play will not do well against good play because it wasn't balanced around good play.

they're not so tiny if you play killer at higher level because those player are the player winning every match so if your killer and your winning every match. your playing vs that level on regular basis. 2 man and 3 man swf can also be somewhat challenging to defeat so it is not just 4 mans.

I'll trust the devs stats over yet another assumption that someone is playing in high MMR. Every single killer main who comes to this forum assumes they are high MMR. High MMR, which the devs have also said is a small minority of the playerbase. So again, making the rest of the playerbase deal with terrible games just to help a small percentage compete won't bode well for the health and longevity of this game.

If you're struggling at the level you are at then perhaps you are sitting at a level you don't belong in. The devs shouldn't change the game to make it easier for you if you are, in fact, in high MMR. High MMR should be tough. It's presumably where the best players sit.

yes because every survivor is evil and is only at the gates just to tbag. Not that they went for a save and they get to a gate. Not that they were being chased towards the gate. Or healing by the gate to set up a save. Nope all of them are just toxic

Lol yup. I've never dropped a tbag in my life but got caught out by this because I wanted to help a team mate. It just means endgame altruism may not be worth it against this killer.

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/433598/as-a-solo-survivor-going-back-to-1v4-after-2v8-feels-miserable

After solely playing 2vs8 for a while, I have agree that my first night back doing 1vs4 in soloq was frustrating and not as enjoyable as I would have liked. I think, up to a point, it really is a numbers game in soloq. If I'm playing with seven randoms, at least some of them might be capable of playing the game well, or can at least pick up some of the slack for those who are struggling. But in 1v4, all it takes is one person blowing skill checks to cause a series of unfortunate events that makes the trial totally miserable. When you're playing with fewer people on a much smaller map, the avenue for error becomes tiny. Everyone has to either play super well or be extra skilled to make up for the person who isn't. And not everybody is at that extra skill level yet or wants to play sweatier because of someone's else's mistakes.

Absolutely! In 2v8 if a survivor messes up there's usually others around to help clean it up. Mess up in 1v4 and the team feels the repercussions. The chaos is the key I think. If Meg messes up in 2v8 I've forgotten about it a minute later. If Meg messes up in 1v4 you better believe I'm side-eyeing her until the end of the game 🀣

  • I haven't been given hatch once since the Finisher Mori update. I have given 3 or so pity kills in that time though, though in my experience most don't want it. So I'm not sure what you mean.

solo players having poor coordination cannot be account for in the balance of the game. it has to be balanced around swf and coordination(good play) and not balanced around bad play because if it is balanced around bad play than whenever killer faces good play, the item in question is not balanced properly and has poor power-level to the point of irrelevancy.

Except BHVR have said before that coordinated 4man swfs are an extremely tiny percentage of the player base. If they balance around that tiny percentage to the detriment of the broader base then kill rates would sky rocket and the end result would be nerfs to killers. Which would not go down well. You can't just tell the majority of the playerbase to essentially suck it up lol they'll just find something else to play. I'm sorry but this a ridiculous take when it comes to the health and longevity of the game we all enjoy

  • I watched Hens use it last night, and despite the fact that he was obviously planning his latest video on it (he was preparing sound bites by repeatedly calling it the best survivor perk, and when he did get value would say it won them the game) I personally don't think he actually got much use out of it and i walked away thinking it looked like a wasted perk slot more often than not. And Hen's is a darn good player. It was even at the point where he was giving team mates a heads up in pre-game chat, I'm assuming so he could get some content for his YT video because he just wasn't getting much use out of it.

If you're getting value every single game then you must see a lot of tunnelling in your games. I feel like that says more about how necessary anti-tunnel perks are than how powerful this one perk may or may not be.

1 … 42 43 44 45 46 … 149
