MMR exists, we know because all the info has been data-mined. Whether it works efficiently is really the question, and most would probably say no. But yes, most people base their win conditions on the way SBMM functions. Per SBMM, hatch is null and void (does not affect MMR at all), while killers increase their MMR with both 3k and 4k. A survivor will increase upon leaving an exit gate. Other factors, such as your opponents own personal MMR or whether you were part of a swf, will affect how much you increase or decrease by. This is all data-mined but has also been mentioned previously by Peanits. People absolutely have their own win conditions but you'll find other players are unlikely to care about personal goals.

Also I know it matters little in terms of the point you made, but I'm pretty sure "entity is displeased" was retired awhile ago because it made people feel bad. I think it's more to keep in line with the lore, hence why we don't see a "you win/lose" message

I'll add that content creators contribute to win conditions too, as you'll notice win and escape streaks are based around 3K/3E. This tends to influence the playerbase as well.

  • If they do address it, I'm positive it'll be for when there's only 2 players left. When it's a 4 man team, there should be someone coming to pick you up. Harder when there's only 2, and a counter gives an incentive to just hook. Since the Finisher Mori was introduced I rarely see hatch anymore as a survivor, and I've only been given it once by a killer in that time. While that's just my experience I'll bet it's reflected in the devs stats as well (hatch escapes are considered null in the system, but a kill still goes towards kill rates). Basekit changes have generally been dictated by game stats, while QOL changes tend to be more feedback based from what I've seen.

  • It's about having respect for people's time. These are people, just like yourself, wanting to enjoy a game, just like yourself, and instead of just hooking them in a game they've already lost you want them to lay on the ground to feed your own ego. Also, you can rant about survivors hiding all you like, but the game is literally advertised on the site to potential buyers as a "deadly game of hide and seek." Most survivors in my experience do not hide anyway outside of low MMR.

  • Probably a licensing thing. Like if Alien fans got drawn to the game through the license, they'd probably be disappointed if they repeatedly used the offering and kept getting Tobas lol. Disney probably didn't want that to be the case either, same with BHVR who had to pay for the license so would want to appease Alien fans and ensure they got Nostromo when they wanted it

  • Hopefully they give BHVR free reign to add more of the mobile cosmetics because those are πŸ”₯

It's not competitive players. Competitive players want to play against other good players and be challenged. Winning effortlessly all the time isn't fun. This is why comp players in this game tend to either play in custom matches with other like-minded people, or they play pubs with self-imposed restrictions like M1 only Trapper or other challenges.

The kind of people who are asking for a casual mode in this game are the toxic casuals. The people who want to win most of the time but don't want to put forth the effort necessary to actually do that. So they want to go up against people who are either worse than them or trying less hard than them. Because anyone who tries harder than them is, of course, a toxic sweaty tryhard.

I'll clarify that when I refer to competitive players, I don't specifically mean comp players. Theyre such a small percentage of players i dont really consider them. I do mean those you describe in your second paragraph. Ranked vs unranked mode is also sometimes referred to as casual vs competitive mode in discussions, hence those are the terms I use interchangeably. I guess toxic casuals is another way of describing them.

I've seen a number of comp DBD streamers talk about rank vs unranked mode before and they're against it, so I don't mean to insinuate they're the ones pushing for it.

  • This is par for the course for any streamer. Did you ever watch the Hardcore Survivor series? It was the same thing as they advanced in the game. Some killers sniped. Ohtofu has the best attitude when it comes to stream sniping - he says it comes with the job of live streaming your games. I agree with him.

  • Was too long for me. I started doing it, then had to go help one of my kids with something, and when I came back it reloaded. Not starting it again.

Please play a match with those settings for Survivor and let me know how it felt!

Toggle and Run to Cancel. Select both.

It's beautiful. Work on a generator? One tap until you have to bolt. Heal a teammate? Same. Heal yourself with medkit or self care? Same. Just one press.

You do still have to hit skill checks but this relieves so much stress.

Will do! I've always intended to have a browse through settings but aside from anonymous mode and camera sensitivity I've never felt the need to

  • Oh absolutely. Competitive folk don't like when their opponents energy matches their own. That doesn't feed the ego. When those folk say they want a separate competitive mode, what they mean is they want their competitive opponents to use that mode. They certainly won't.

  • I've been playing for approx 4 years now (following the game for a bit longer) and there's always been issues here and there with releases. I think as time goes by they're probably pushing the limits of what the game can handle a bit more in order to remain interesting and meet the demands of players. They could dial it back a bit but that would also draw the ire of players.

  • @CountOfTheFog said:

For Killers and Survivors: You do NOT have to hold a button to complete most actions!

Go to Options and change the interaction behavior from "Hold" to "Toggle"

This allows a Survivor to only press a button once to repair a generator rather than holding it the whole time.

For Survivor, be sure to turn on Run to Cancel.

It allows Killers to break pallets and walls with one tap instead of a press and hold.

Here is a screenshot. Life is so much easier like this 😌

This is really helpful, I had no idea I could do this πŸ˜‚

  • Do you mean the event offerings? I'm pretty sure they're bugged so we're all kind of wasting our bp on them unfortunately

  • Queue times simply become too long. Since 1v4 is their primary game mode, it wouldn't bode well for the health of the game to keep it permanent.

  • I use Lightweight lol I don't use any exhaustion perks, so that's my chase perk of choice. I feel like I don't see alot of Lightweight users in my own games though

  • @MaTtRoSiTy said:

This event feels like I am barely getting any more than a regular match, which renders the whole thing all but pointless for me since I play events for the BP since they are really all that matters for progression in this game.

I am definitely getting more in normal mode, especially bringing a bp offering (and the fact that a team mate typically does as well doesnt hurt). Comparing my normal games to my event games, the former has garnered me more bp in total than the latter. At least we have a Bloodhunt starting.

  • He had Pentimento... I'm assuming his goal was for the survivors to eventually cleanse? And he won so I guess he got value from his build. Good for him, great result

  • I've only played on it twice but it seems alright so far

  • Yes, it's pretty bad. We have both a Bloodhunt and Bloodfeast coming soon during the event, I'm guessing that's why bp earnings are pretty dismal at the moment.

  • They should have made it so if the moving ones stop for an undetermined amount of time, they despawn. Though if they haven't done that yet for Nemesis's zombies then maybe it's not possible?

The game went 8 years without it happening, then it happened twice in a span of roughtly half a year: Both times to things mostly/exclusively available to players who pay real money AND not being adressed in a short time period AND by a company everyone knows only cares about the game from a financial perspective.

Yes, so if they don't have a history of attaching benefits to skins (and the one example you've mentioned - Huntress - was a bug and fixed), then common sense says this is also a bug.

  • Yes lmao I'm glad it wasn't just my OCD affected!

  • They didn't just copy and paste last year's announcement maybe? We did get a banner and badge then

Edit: not a copy and paste but similar enough that they obviously referred back to it when writing this year's one. Looks like the badge and banner line was accidentally included.

    Screenshot_20241214_203754_Chrome.jpg
  • This is why it's a good thing we have split modes,

  • It's a voluntary event with temporary fun objectives and people complain when you participate in it? Lol I'd just laugh it off. They could just play normal mode and all their problems would disappear

Take the Bond perk. During my games as a survivor, I realized that it is much more important to know what my solo comrades are doing. Bond has always allowed me to avoid most of the problems when playing as a survivor.

I warn you right away, you may not like what you see around you. If you see what is in the picture above, your chances of escaping are high. If you see what is below in the picture. Time to pray to the gods of luck and think about where the hatch will be.

Yes, I know that these are old screenshots, but they fully reflect the situation even in 2024. Visuals are always better absorbed than text.

The remaining 3 perks can be selected in accordance with your taste preferences.

This is why I prefer Empathy. Bond is too infuriating, but Empathy at least I can see my injured team mates who are too scared to do anything while injured. I can go heal them up and get them back in the game. There's no hope for the ones who are healthy and hiding, so I'd rather just be ignorant lol

  • I played this morning to complete the Bone Chill tome, then went back to normal mode. Not only were my games alot more chill in normal mode but I was making more bp too, especially with my bp offering and whatever others were bringing. It should be the opposite during an event lol

Aren't most event bloodpoint bonuses individual? Usually with events I find Behavior always makes individual based bloodpoint offerings, especially with the rods that we had earlier this year, lol.

Anniversary event offerings always stack, and the old Scorching Summer BBQ invites did too, hence why alot of us don't understand why certain event offerings are so stingy. There was also the Lunar Event where you could interact with each other's envelopes and award each other with bloodpoints.

Well, recently I've been researching and learning as much as I can about Skull Merchant, and honestly one of the things I've concluded is that the infamous match everyone knows about isn't really proof of anything.

Meaningless, I would say. As comp DBD always is.

Which is why I've requested help to find videos of Skull Merchant's original iteration being played as and against players of average skill. And the results were interesting, to say the least.

It wasn't even comp DBD though. The killer wasn't comp. As far as I'm aware he had pretty minimal hours as SM, against a team that had collectively well over 10k hours. It was literally your average Joe player holding down one of the best survivor swfs lol

  • I've only played about a dozen survivor games but yeah, I feel it's quite dull. I've only had 2 killers throw a snowball, including a farming Ghostface, but other than that it just feels like a standard game. My team mates alternate from not touching gens and just messing around with snowballs and snowmen (which is fun), to just focusing on gens and ignoring the event stuff (so business as usual).

  • They probably don't want to take away player agency and creativity, but honestly with as long as this game has been around I feel like strong synergies are just going to get more frequent and they probably should be focusing on restrictions more. They have the PTB for a reason.

  • @I_CAME said:

At this point I think it's a deliberate effort by Behavior to make people earn less BPs. Between these last few events and the fact that there is rarely a good BP incentive anymore.

According to an in-game notification we have a Bloodhunt starting in a few days, followed shortly after by a Bloodfeast. I'm guessing that's why they made them personal. I'd rather they just made the offerings shared because it provides a sense of community. But I think they'd rather the Bloodhunt/feast to boost numbers.

  • Yeah it's ridiculous lol

Ive heard there are many Killers who try to force this achievement since it tends to be really difficult to get through normal means.

It's nice of them to take the time. They could just hook the last player and move to their next match but instead they're willing to help. Restores my faith in the gaming community.

  • I had a killer force me to get it lol I was the last person with 1 gen to go, and he downed me and carried me to the last gen. I finished it then he downed me again and carried me past hatch, shaking his head at it as we passed, then let me off at the exit gate. I wasn't familiar with the achievement so he was kind of weirding me out until I left and saw it pop up. I really wanted to thank him, but being on console I couldn't :(

Edit: wanted to add that I got the Vecna challenge (escaped with the Eye) done thanks to a Vecna doing the same thing, making sure I survive and escape. I'm not big on getting achievements completed but I probably wouldn't have either of the above achievements if not for the kindness of other players

Not from my perspective. That's only the first totem, and if it's Thrill you break, you no longer have to worry about it.

I feel like most of y'all are either playing dumb with this perk, or you're trying to protect the mega casuals who can't even process doing gens, let alone totems.

Perks shouldn't play the game for you. I get it feels great not having to lift a finger because the hexes are doing all the work, but it's not only survivors who need to try in this game while you cruise along on easy mode. There's only one person playing dumb about this perk. You wouldn't be defending it to the death the way you are if you weren't getting something out of it. No one cares this strongly about a bad perk, so no one believes you when you're trying to downplay it.

47 seconds a totem is insane from any reasonable perspective.

Especially when it can easily be interrupted repeatedly and revert back to 0 every time. It boggles my mind that anyone can defend this and call it fine. I'm glad most of the community seems to understand though and it's only a minority purposely being obtuse.

year but the dbd MMR just exists - it's nothing special. I've played against Otz as a SoloQ survivor even though I only play survivor 20% of my dbd time. The BP Bonus also has not much to do with the MMR because you get in general BP bonus on Killer (according to the devs, every killer has their own MMR but also an average MMR; for example: if you are a super-ultra high MMR Trapper but never play Nurse, your Nurse will have your average MMR and not a beginner MMR when you play her the first time after 2000h). However, it does not matter if you play your high MMR killer or your average killer, you will get 50% on both.

It's definitely MMR related. I have a photo floating around somewhere that I took of both my Switch screen and PS5 screen together. Switch was 100% survivor incentive, while PS5 was 100% killer incentive. So same time, same server, just different MMRs (my PS5 account was new at the time).

There are some streamers who are hyping the Perk up, being the next MfT. And granted, if going against very, very good Survivors, it might indeed be really strong, but it still applies what I have written before - most people dont encounter those teams (and people who think they do are just worse than they think they are…).

The funny thing is among even the edited youtube videos I've seen on this perk the value has been rare as the streamers hyped it.

Streamers hyping a perk is pretty common. Resurgence, Hope, Background Player, Power of Two, We're Gonna Live Forever, etc. all have had their 'look at me get valuewith this perk' window.

Shoulder the Burden isn't bad, it can get value, but I really have difficulty seeing the perk as broken.

I've always said, don't rely on cherry picked YouTube videos. Go and watch the live stream. With STB in particular, there was rarely any value to be had. I watched a number of streamers on Twitch using it and the end result is I haven't used it once lol was not sold on it at all. One streamer, playing solo, started telling his team mates in pre-game chat that he had STB in the hopes they'd let him get the unhooks. I'm guessing so he'd have clips for his YouTube video. He wasn't getting much use out of it.

Probably a mix of both. Steamcharts actually shows a clear player count drop from 2021 to 2022, from 50k average (2021) to 38k average (2022). So either people have adapted but started playing a lot less often than before, or they genuinely left.

But yeah I'd agree the game really went downhill after 6.1. But to me this is not so much due to balance changes and us vs. them, but rather due to a bunch of objectively stupid changes for both sides that nobody asked for, like the Self-care nerf or Barbecue BP rework that were both extremely hostile to casuals.

Yeah, definitely a lot of factors at play. It's rarely ever so black and white.

  • @Saiph said:

alot has happened over the years with the community itself especially both sides of killlers and survivors. The game is more survivor sided for sure but also it depends on the type of killer that makes survivors go against which makes situations killer sided.Β

Every indicator we have shows that the game is killer-sided. Every single killer is above 50% killrate right now, most of them around 60%, while survivor as a whole has 40% escape rate. The devs themselves stated their goal was to increase the killrate from 50% to 60% over the years. So no, that is factually wrong.

And before you speak about sweaty 4-man SWFs, this is not unique to the survivor side, on the killer side sweaty Blights and Nurses achieve THOUSANDS of winstreaks with them, something even tournament SWFs can't rival. I have yet to see a single other multiplayer game where such winning streak is allowed.

Yet, paradoxically, it is true that the game has become harder for killers. Do you know why?

It's not because of balance. It's because the casual playerbase has left. The game has almost 30% less players now than in 2021. So, before, the game was survivor-sided, but you were playing against 200-hour potatoes who were just enjoying a game and didn't care about winning. Now, these players have left, and what remains are only the long-time, dedicated players with thousands of hours and who often approach the game as a tournament. Even though the game itself is killer-sided now, your chances of winning are much lower than in the past, simply because you get tougher opponents.

This game's approach to balance & fun should be reconsidered completely. Our collective goal should be to make the game more casual and beginner-friendly, not necessarily more balanced.

I dunno if the casual base left as opposed to their attitude just changed. Prior to update 6.1 you could play casually. Then we had the gen kick meta, which BHVR completely dropped the ball on by letting it go on for several months. During those months you literally had to be glued to a gen or you were throwing. When it got taken away, survivors had already adapted and the concept of "gen rushing" became more prominent. Particularly because alot of killers keenly felt when the gen kick meta was taken away and they weren't getting the same results anymore. Since then the game has been on this sort of see-saw fueled by 'us vs them' rhetoric, when the reality is BHVR didn't handle the game well after 6.1 and they're still trying to fix it by slapping band aids on wherever there's a leak. IMO of course.

They might be trying to do something like make screaming not interrupt progress. That way it still takes the same amount of time to cleanse, but the killer actually has to go interrupt the progress rather than relying on FTD or similar effects.

I'd be down for that. I just hope in future they test things in PTB, especially before an event.

Considering a simple number change would be very quick to do... I'm guessing it'll be more than that.

Yeah, I would have thought just revert it and then test out another change (whether to ToTH or something else) in a later PTB. But ah well.
