Long time no see considering I stopped playing the game...jeez, almost two years ago now. But saw a tweet randomly that said this place was closing down, which is a real bummer (even though I became more or less inactive here a few months after I stopped playing since I couldn't really keep up with changes anymore).

One more Holly and Olive for the road for those of you who remember me. They're both doing very well.

Extremely disappointing, and I think you'll be getting way less quality feedback on average on a Discord server than on a dedicated forum. If it's moderation costs, bots and new accounts posting spam or inappropriate images/media is an issue, why not just add more severe restrictions to new users like not being able to post media until you have at least 50 upvotes or something? Or more severe filtering and automatic blocking of new accounts posts? If this is even part of the reason. If the reasoning truly is just "A lot of people don't use this forum so we don't value it" then I think that's dropping the ball on good feedback from extra dedicated and often experienced players for the sake of pandering to a majority that have far less interest in the game.

Also really dislike this because searching for posts and information becomes less accessible due to discords account access based nature not letting posts show up in web searches or even being viewable without an account. On top of that, where will patch notes be posted now? Discord only? I think it's dumb to need a social media account just to read a games patch notes, although I guess there's still the Steam page.

tinfoil hat theory: avoiding accountability might be one of their reasons to close the forums 🤷‍♂️

What other platforms are we talking about? I thought this would be the best place for info to be given to the devs but guess I was wrong ?

officially, Reddit, Discord and X are their Main platforms I think.
Those are all popular based though, so if you actually want your post seen it needs plenty of upvotes. So… good luck.

but to some degree thats already the case now, the Forums have had less and less dev and Community Manager interactions.

  • I think the Forum Feedback was already pretty much just an afterthought and they primarily used their other platforms - including their Partner CCs and their following. Well. Mostly those to be honest as those are the biggest and loudest crowd.

Also, it is advertisement and has shifted away from the actual test part more and more, and actual game breaking stuff will get to their attention with or without the forums anyways

  • clicking on them used to show you the info and even the forum members that had the badge. Plenty of features on here were abandoned after some time without any reason or even announcement given

The forums are the official forums. That's always given more of a sense of weight to what BHVR people post here and whether things have a chance of being read or not. There should have been a direct line from starting things on the official BHVR forum and then spreading out from there.

Its also been a great place for actual discussions. The feedback on patches and PTBs seems more detailed here than other places. People have been able to post their ideas on why something does or does not work, and others can post detailed responses. Once upon a time we got BHVR people to weigh in on those issues as well.

Places like discord just seem to much more be 'who shouts the loudest'. Unfortunately that seems be a trend for BHVR on gathering feedback where they don't go beyond surface deep and thus continually seem like they are going to address community concerns, and then don't.

    THIS

Sadly. Though the Forums were also kinda going in that direction with downvotes/ratio not bumping threads but it was still not as noticable as Discord/Reddit/Twitter.
… guess best way to get your voice heard now is to convince a big content creator to care for it

As controversial as this sounds, I really don't think this is too bad. Besides, it's our own faults for abandoning the official forums. This wouldn't of happened if we stayed. Some of are here, obviously one is myself. Still, Discord is the most popular gaming chat. Nothing wrong with prioritising the majority, it is what I have been saying for a while. You can't please everyone, prioritise the biggest audience you can, which is Discord. People will complain obviously, I get that. Still you are proving my point, end of an era but was a good run. I will still give my stupid ideas on here until the very end, ok now I'm being over dramatic but peace out.

it's our own faults for abandoning the official forums

Uhm. Talk for yourself? Plenty of us haven’t abandoned the forums at all. Others were banned or pretty much silenced with expecting to be banned for very minor stuff

  • yeah. Well.

Kinda sad, but mostly for nostalgia reasons at this point.
This is not surprising news at all as the forums felt neglected for quite some time now and with the very strict rule and escalation system, many reasonable community members have been missing and made the place feel even more desolate.

i used to like this format more than discord or Social media because it felt more structured and direct, but as already said, this is already being missed so i guess with shutting down we can at least find a better way to let go.

i guess at least there is some time to reach out here via PN to stay in touch

  • Crouch spots could also work as ‘sliding under’ when sprinting.

My suggestions included throwable items that would Slow the killer down just a bit (no direct stun). Stuff Like big vases/pots. Think Sam when she first encounters the Psychopath im Until Dawn.

other could be roots or Entity tentacles that survivors may stumble over (but still visible/avoidable).

  • yeah.
weird how they stated they want tó bring select mobile outfits over though a bit adjusted somit fits better to core DbD and they actually started that with good executions but then… stopped oretty mich immediately?

That Elodie one and Zarina summer one are sooo cute and would def boost the chars popularity..

(I would be fine with leaving the furry maid outfits available for everyone out though - just.. normal Maid version for someone that fits Like the Sable Contest one)

  • Í would have liked Silent Hill f as a Full chapter.

Not sure how likely a standalone killer would be though - more likely as a Legendary Skin for an existing original killer (or Pyramid Head but that doesnt fit with the power)

Imagine if that other team was also working on new content though. You think having a seaprate team working on the visuals means that it's not taking up any time?

they still want to limit the content in any Single update as they just confirmed they don’t want bigger perk or other changes in chapter updates with New Killers as that would lead to not enough Feedback etc.

Also, different devs work on different stuff, you wouldnt want people that specialize in creating new assets to work on new gameplay features

they are also always working on stuff on the side that never make it into the Game nor PTB and we never hear about it. Of course that also takes up time. And kinda needed to bring the game forwards. Gotta look a little deeper.

  • image.gif

    ..

Uh something on topic i guess…

Nice idea, lore wise this would have made sense for Legion as well. And i guess Ghost Face, though not really with DbD GF lore

Not sure if implementation to avoid same skins would be possible though (eg two Chuckys instead of Chucky and Tiffany

  • if the Forums are anything to go by then you just don‘t, no matter the reason or non-reason

Reason why I don't think they will ever add a spider killer that looks way too much like real spider if any that type at all.

Cote said in a recently-ish Interview they wouldnt care about phobias and that wouldnt stop them from adding specific killers. It was around the time the Krasue was not revealed yet and people guessed a spider-based Killer die to some in-game arcade.

Imo its the right call not to let their own creative vision get restricted by this though reasonable phobia modes that don’t affect balance and still remain Horror aesthetics should still be considered. Like.. definitley not floating blobs like Grounded but there is not just this one possible execution 🤷‍♂️

  • well then i would expect BHVR should already know about this and my Customer Support advice would not be needed.. sometimes they react slowly but appropriate would be BP compensation, DC Penalty deactivation and a ‘thank you for your unstanding’-‘apology’. At least thats what i think would be their response in the past for such issues

  • is it really a general problem for Epic Players and Not possibly on your end?

First mention of this i am seeing..

I would recommend asking their customer support and also attaching logs though and if it’s really a general acknowledged problem they might at least deactivate the DC penalty as long as its not fixed

  • @KingOfGhost said:

Right now, accessibility is mostly a problem for a few specific Killers because of how unique their gameplay is. But I think this could become a much bigger issue later on.

The devs have already shown that they want to add more environmental effects, like weather, that can affect both what you see and what you hear. If that becomes a bigger part of normal gameplay, some players with hearing or visual impairments could end up having a much harder time playing.

That’s why I think it would be better to start working on these accessibility problems now instead of waiting until they become worse.

DBD has already taken a long time to add some accessibility features in the past, so it would make sense to prepare early and then adjust those features when bigger updates come out.

For deaf or hard-of-hearing players, the best idea I can think of is a very simple visual sound indicator.

For example, if a sound comes from the left, a small part of the left edge of the screen could lightly flash or change color for a moment. Same thing for the center or right side.

    It wouldn’t show the Survivor.

It wouldn’t show an exact direction.

    It wouldn’t show distance.

It would just give a very general idea of where the sound came from.

    Something like:

    Left / Center / Right

And to keep it fair, it could actually be less sensitive than normal hearing.

For example, if an average player could barely hear a Survivor from far away, the visual indicator wouldn’t activate yet. It would only show once the sound became louder and more obvious.

So instead of giving deaf players better tracking, it would actually give them less accurate information than someone with normal hearing, while still giving them something to work with.

The point isn’t to tell the Killer:

“The Survivor is exactly over there.”

    It’s just to communicate:

“You heard something somewhere on your left.”

I think something like this would be perfect for the Beta tab. BHVR could test the range, sensitivity, colors, and how accurate the direction should be, then adjust it if it feels too strong.

Accessibility doesn’t have to mean making the game easier. It can just mean giving players another way to receive information that other players can already hear or see.

Small note: I use AI to help me write these posts because my English is not very good. I’m not using it to make arguments for me or pretend these ideas are not mine. I just want to make sure my point comes across clearly and people can understand what I’m trying to say.

You can still use your own words and get better Communication skills that way instead of relying on AI. Maybe that way you could have avoided paraphrasing a Feature that was already covered in this thread multiple times and pretty much everyone agreed with in some way. but somehow while paraphrasing and repeating it you also described it unnecessarily longer..

And you also don’t need to write perfectly in English anyways. I am far off from that as well and if someone actually wants to discuss a topic they will understand you or just ask or respectfully point out when something needs to be phrased differently. This is an international forum, many of us are not native English speakers and it works just fine. If you can understand whatever this AI is spitting out thats enough to be able to form your own words, but way more authentic and actually ground for discussion. This is not it.

It's really not that bad honestly, I think the most tries I needed were 5, most were first or second try for me. But I'm also killer main and can play all killers to some extend.

It's just weird that you actually have to slug for the 4k if you don't want to gamble while survivors can also get it by escaping the hatch. It would be nice if it were 3k + hatch or 4k - at least is that what would make it better for me because that's how I count wins :D

exactly, and it would also provide a better mental environment in general if they wouldnt incentivice slugging for the 4K. Thats just dragging out an already decided match

  • @Wiccamanplays said:

I do agree (I'm disabled myself and there are things about the game as Killer that I distinctly struggle with) but I also agree with other commenters that it's a difficult one to balance correctly.

I think an audio indicator when in chase that a Survivor is making noise within a certain radius (without revealing direction) would be something to start with, as would a general overhaul to audio to make Survivor noises more consistent and less buggy for those who are not deaf but hard of hearing or have sensory processing issues.

I know BHVR have basically said they won't do it because they can't be bothered but a basic universal crosshairs option would really help with dealing with some of the VFX or movement you get as Killer (kinda like the one you get as Survivor when hit with a Clown bottle to offset the screen shake and blur).

oh their reasoning for not providing in-game Option for a crosshair was way off!

Acknowledging that many but definitley not all have Access to it through Hardware (monitor setting) and then saying those that don’t have that can use the addon?? Kinda infuriating to expect people to use an addon for an accessibility Feature that is just… so basic.. AND it exists in the game already 🫨

  • i am a mediocre to bad killer player but usually for the adepts for Killers in under 10 Matches - even back when it wasnt 4K bit emblem based? Is it really that hard…?

The most annoying part is getting a 4 K over hatch escape - but even then Killers have the slight advantage finding the hatch faster..

  • if it ever comes, it should be completely optional, opt-in, not opt-out, never be considered to be used as Arguments for balancing and it would still be Problematic

Something I haven’t seen mentioned here yet though k agree with most arguments mentioned already is Language Barrier - playing on central EU (Frankfurt) servers is already for in-game chat not easy to communicate. Many do speak some English but there is still plenty that do not or not sufficient enough, especially from eastern Europe and also further southeast.. and somehow BHVR refuses to expand servers into that region even though there is very many players there AND they also suffer from bad connection/ping…

  • @KingOfGhost said:

    @Mooks @Aven_Fallen

Here is a stronger version that responds directly while keeping the discussion focused on accessibility and balance.

So, in other words, should we exclude players from experiencing a Killer they like simply because they were born with physical limitations? Should we just tell them, “We don’t need to make the game more accessible for you. Just don’t play that Killer and move on”?

I don’t think that should be the answer. If reasonable accessibility options can let more players enjoy a Killer without giving them an unfair gameplay advantage, then those options should be considered.

I understand the argument that the Killer player chooses which Killer they play, while Survivors cannot choose which Killer they face. But I don’t think that means Killer-specific accessibility needs should automatically be considered less important.

Choosing a Killer does not remove the accessibility problem. If someone really enjoys Spirit, for example, but cannot properly use audio cues because of a hearing impairment, telling them to simply play another Killer is not really an accessibility solution. The point of accessibility is to reduce unnecessary barriers so more people can experience the same content.

That also does not mean Spirit should receive perfect visual tracking or anything that gives additional information. A visual audio system could be designed to represent roughly the same information a hearing player already receives, while keeping the same uncertainty and limitations.

And I agree that general Killer accessibility should probably be the priority where possible. Things such as visual sound cues, camera shake reduction, better input options, clearer power UI, contrast settings, FoV options, and customizable visual indicators could benefit many Killers rather than only one.

The FoV option and aura/scratch-mark customization are good examples of progress. I’m not saying Killer players have received nothing. I’m saying there are still areas where accessibility could be expanded.

The mobile visual-audio system is also exactly the kind of feature I think would be worth testing on the main game. It does not necessarily need to be copied directly. Put a version in the Beta tab, test how accurate it is, determine whether it gives too much information, adjust the range and directionality, and collect feedback from both disabled players and the wider playerbase.

That is what the Beta tab seems perfect for.

The goal shouldn’t be to make a Killer easier to play. It should be to make sure a player is struggling because of the Killer’s intended gameplay difficulty, not because important information is only available through a physical ability they may not have.

pretty much what I was saying

If reasonable accessibility options can let more players enjoy a Killer without giving them an unfair gameplay advantage, then those options should be considered.

The problem is that there will somehow always be people against it that will claim anything would be Not reasonable. There is still people claiming that the visual terror radius is a direct buff for survivors after all…

But I don’t think that means Killer-specific accessibility needs should automatically be considered less important

ideally we wouldnt have to consider these features more or less important but those do need resources to be planned/designed/implemented and prioritation is needed.
also imo Spirit wouldnt need specific adjustments when we would get general visual cues for sounds in similar way to mobile, so probably just a not so well selected example.

killer specific sensitivity like Judgement got should definitley be rolled out for every Killer with aiming though, also survs with flashlight and exile thingies. The code is pretty much already here. But the devs did say thats the plan i think and Judgement is just the first test for this

Here is a stronger version that responds directly while keeping the discussion focused on accessibility and balance.

Say Hi to chatGPT from me. You can just use your own words though.

  • i get it but you also have to consider that the Killer is choosing to play this specific killer while survivors cant choose which Killer they will Face. So specific changes just for Spirit for example are not as highly needed but there of course are still general killer mechanics that could use some accessibility stuff.

We did get the FoV as beta btw and imo the Aura/scratchmark colors are mostly affecting killers as well so it’s not like we didn’t get nothing.

I think mobile had a feature for visual audio cues Like footsteps and breathing? Not sure how well this would work directly translated but thats another general thing that should at least be tested.. which is what the Beta tab is for? Not sure how Long the other stuff is supposed to stay there..

I'm assuming that's because certain perks like Sprint Burst detect whether the sprint key is being pressed rather than if the player is sprinting

probably this and other exhaustion perks.

I kinda hoped they would have this already on their radar for the code foundation rework but if this issue is just now being forwarded to the Team then chances are its been implemented there just how it is now

I get what you mean, as thats the main conclusion that comes to mind, but the confusion for me starts with the fact that they do stuff for no monetary gain all year round. For example the design a cosmetic competition, and the free track of every rift. Then cosmetics that are free during events ( to be sold later). So that part still seems possible.

But the licensing negotiation and approvals seem to be the biggest question as left 4 dead has given out their entire roster of characters to other games before as well like Nazi zombie army as a big free update. Along with keeping Bill in the game this long and letting them make 2 original outfits for him. So maybe the left 4 dead license holders are just tough to get in touch with or something?

i guess things like that (community contest designs, Bills Outfits) are easier than complete (legendary) characters as those would typically come with completely new Lobby animations and voice acting and Face models, so way more resources being spent compared to just outfits for existing characters including Bill. So its possible and obviously they were in touch with the licensors regarding Bill a few times but may be too much costs for other things.

  • always thought Until Dawn will be added sooner or later.

BHVR has worked with Supermassive Games before and Until Dawn has spread a bit (Remake, Movie, Sequel in works) so doesnt seem like Sony would be completely against collaborations.

Though i had hoped we would get Sam as a survivor then with Hayden voicing her, which is now not possible anymore

  • yeah, would be nice but i doubt we will see any further content for L4D because there is no monetary gain for BHVR AND its still tied to License negotiations and approvals and all

  • @jomarocasout said:

is better a chat or voice in game for survivors, but this also can work

both Chat and Voice have limitations though, especially language barrier but also just basic accessibility

You always have the option to find a swf and use some third party tool for voice chat however if you really prefer that.

  • Yeah, we need more variety for survivors! Thats why i made several item suggestions on the past

But decluttering the inventory and bloodweb is important for this too. But that shouldnt be an Argument against new items. There is so much useless stuff and with new items there would be meaningful variety in the bloodwebs instead of… how many category bloodpoint offerings that everyone just ignores and only tolerates because it has been there since the beginning? We also really don’t need so many different rarities of items that are just sliiiightly different from another. Or way too many addons where only half get used and they are just slight number increases..

also.. fog vials were handled weird. Starting with infinite uses and overnerfing within a very short period of time but never finding the sweet spot

  • imo, Oni and Blight, to a lesser degree Nurse and Huntress are the ones that are not worth it on Controller to learn. They have a notcieably loser skill ceiling due to not being able to flick on the Controller the way you can with M&K.

Dracula should be enjoyable especially if you are experiences with Nemesis.
Mechanically Pyramid Head as well but he is a bit clunky (Both on Controller and M&K) and compared to others his power doesnt really bring that much to 2v8 - though hitting multiple survs at once can be very satisfying!

  • @BeerFarts said:

This Player intent wheel should only work in proximity. I shouldn't be allowed to communicate with someone on the other side of the map.

If you want the game to be non stop SWF style play than add VOIP to your game..

Edit: Downvote all you want, its the truth

it couldnt be further from the truth..

Proximity wouldnt help to bridge the gap between soloq and swf and be kinda unnecessary for shoutouts like ‚i am going to hook‘ or ‚i am going to work on the gen‘ etc
but neither this nor full voip could bring soloq to swf style play - swf is stronger because they are not randoms, they will/can always work as a team and know more about their teammates and playstyles without explizit verbal/written communications.

Also, voice chat will just not always work, be it language barrier, missing Hardware, unwillingness to use the mechanics (already seeing people that wont use the chat wheel for whatever reasons), background noises, toxicity, not easy to be moderated, etc.

I feel like in practice it would just play out like a predropped Chem trap pallet. The survivor is able to loop through the pallet while the killer avoids "breaking" it to avoid the stun until they.

    okay…

But thats your assumption about a perk that doesnt exist? Maybe one of the drawbacks could be that survs cant go through or they will trigger it?

Thats why i explicitly stated it needs some kind of drawbacks.

I read this thread just as a fun little Community brainstorming thing without specifying a release ready perk

  • @LordGlint said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/4107228#Comment_4107228

So your perk idea is that the killer gets stunned at a pallet that NOT dropped?

Uhm, i just pitched a very loose initial concept idea of a perk without any specifications with the threads topic in mind? And yeah, stunning the Killer without a dropped pallet just like… Blast Mine, Head On, Last Stand.

  • chemtrap only works on dropped pallets and slows the Killer after breaking so i guess its different enough? One of the drawbacks could be that the Pallet instantly breaks so it cant be comboed or something

  • Don’t forget Blast Mine which not only blinds but also stuns

As for new perks maybe something like booby trapping a pallet so it stuns when the killer goes through it? Would need to be limited obviously and possibly also some drawback.

Yeah, but why? What a complete waste of time. The game is fine as it is. I'd much rather new content than a facelift.

You still get new content though? Its a completely different Team working on it. And it even comes with new content as well (weather dynamics eg which could also impact new content like perks that are weather dependent)

And you might be fine with the current graphics but many people have been commenting that it does look dated (and objectivley comparing it to other current games confirms that it does) and the creators of the game seemingly want to do it…

Also, hopefully it will still be more resource efficient due to better code basis.

  • imo, it would be nice if they did more akin to All Kill Comeback

Like.. maybe two New chapter a year and 2-3 comeback chapters that Review the existing content while also adding something New like a map, or legendary skin, maybe ‚missing‘ surv for a chapter or just something like a new surv item or even some new general game mechanic like the breakable walls (just, more interesting and interactive than that failure)

  • nope, posts don’t get automatically deleted or anything. Just when people flag them either bc they are against Rules or the OP requests them to be deleted

  • that almost looks like you are one click away from seeing the proof that you still claim is not existent, though i am not sure of showing this openly on the official Forums is permitted. So I would have advised against that

  • It doesnt seem like BHVR would have the needed experience to completely implement their own engine and its far more feasible that they use an existing one. And they are fortunately rewriting the game in a modern one right now.

Sure, an Engine just Built for the game would probably be more efficient and could be more reliable, but then Unreal/existing ones might bring features that might not have been thought about when designing the custom engjne and it gets Updates as well so it is a good trade Off if the resources are just not there.
