Would the upcoming Zombie mode be a good opportunity for Left 4 Dead Characters?
My very first post on this forum back in december of 2022, was asking for the rest of the Left 4 dead characters as Legendary skins for Bill (Zoey/Francis/Louis/Coach/Nick/Ellis/Rochelle). After learning more about the license, like the fact that the content from dbd has to be Free, the only way I could think of for adding those legendaries would be as event or rift rewards, which could later be in the store for shards only.
And since the announcement of a Zombie mode being in the works, I was wondering if that could be the ultimate opportunity to finally give some love to the most empty zombie license in the game. It would certainly make the event much more exciting having such high quality rewards, and Bill mains would probably cry tears of joy, Even if it were only a couple of the characters.

If the mode does well enough and people want to see it come back, it could even be a good way to bring in 1 or 2 left 4 dead characters per iteration. Once the left 4 deads are all here it can even be swapped to resident evil or walking dead themed where they can release characters in the store (since resident evil primarily waits for resident evil themed events or new chapters to finally bring in content).
It may also be a nice way to pay homage to the 2nd license to ever join dbd, and stuck with us for 9 years. I think we owe more to Bill than we give him credit for, such as:
Over the years the most guessed reason for lack of left 4 dead content has been that BHVR doesn't want to make cosmetics for non profit. But so far as I have seen that isn't true as with every rift and event we have all year round gives non profit cosmetics every time. So what is really holding left 4 dead content back? (Besides the fact that nobody else seems to wanna taco bout it) I'm not a Bill maim myself, but certainly would have been if Coach joined alongside him back then.
yeah, would be nice but i doubt we will see any further content for L4D because there is no monetary gain for BHVR AND its still tied to License negotiations and approvals and all
I get what you mean, as thats the main conclusion that comes to mind, but the confusion for me starts with the fact that they do stuff for no monetary gain all year round. For example the design a cosmetic competition, and the free track of every rift. Then cosmetics that are free during events ( to be sold later) and even twitch drops. So that part still seems possible.
But the licensing negotiation and approvals seem to be the biggest question as left 4 dead has given out their entire roster of characters to other games before as well like Nazi zombie army as a big free update. Along with keeping Bill in the game this long and letting them make 2 original outfits for him. So maybe the left 4 dead license holders are just tough to get in touch with or something? That or they think nobody would care about left 4 dead today.
i guess things like that (community contest designs, Bills Outfits) are easier than complete (legendary) characters as those would typically come with completely new Lobby animations and voice acting and Face models, so way more resources being spent compared to just outfits for existing characters including Bill. So its possible and obviously they were in touch with the licensors regarding Bill a few times but may be too much costs for other things.
That makes sense lol. Only way to bring those characters in would be legendaries, but they would have to be free, and are a costly pain to make. And theres too many to make (7). Yep, it woulda been nice lol
I hope we get zombie cosmetics for each of the original Survivors and Killers.
Would love licensed Characters also but we know how difficult that can be
I’m still hoping for Special Infected Cosmetics for the Killers. A smoker skin on deathslinger would go hard.
Yea i think that might be even harder for them to do than survivor legendaries, because the smoker would then be carrying a harpoon rifle, or theyd have to remake the entire aim and fire animation just to make it work like left 4 dead. I could see a spitter for Krasue, jockey + charger for twins, boomer for clown if they could make him spit globs that explode into gas, tank for oni etc. But killer wise theyd likely have to make a whole new chapter - for free, out of the kindness of their hearts lol.
