Why is not there a timer for the player to be aware of the time it takes to finish a season ?

Straw man argument? Nah it just shows how fast the devs change their opinion. They also claimed that the game originally was designed around solo play and they claimed that for 2 years. Now they stated the opposite...

I am form germany and so far, I have never spoken german in the ingame voice comms, no it has always been english and the other players spoke english too.

Yes a solo survivor refusing to use voice comm will naturally be in a disadvantage, but as I already said. Thats ok, if you dont want to play competitively tahts up to you, but it cant be rela that killers are disadvantaged just because solo survivors dont have the possibility to communicate.

And yes even if we had voice comms ingame, the advantage you get from coordinating before game / choosing premades and all that stuff is so big that other games even introduce different ranked queues for premade teams.. But we gotta start somewhere, voice comms should be a no brainer as long as SWF can use dsicord

Of course its a strawman, you are using another scenario as if it should apply to this one, the devs actually never claimed the game was based on solo play it was the playerbase that has always said that, they just recently confirmed SWF was always planned, now what is possible is they had no idea of how comms would break it due in to inexperience.

It really does not matter about your personal circumstances as that is down to you no one else, your own circumstances are irrelevant as you chose to do it while forcing someone to do it or lose out is completely wrong, a change must be done for all countries in the world, if not why even make changes in the game for the text for other languages? this is due to not everyone speaking and reading English, it seems even some of the devs struggle with English seeming to come from a French part of Canada.

Exactly you just confirmed the problem, I am sorry but it is not ok for someone who purchased a game without voice comms to find out 2 years, 1 year, months whenever really down the line that it is now balanced around voice comms so use it or be disadvantaged.

Most of the games you refer to are more than likely not asymmetrical or they have been built from the ground up to add it so people knew what they were getting into, they are equal players on each side, people have asked for SWF to be seperated for a long time by killers who want to opt out of it, can you see the problem with that?

Take one example of a game with voice comms with a toxic community, Friday the 13th, do you realise how many trolls that game had and how many complaints about mic abuse were being posted? this game has a n even more toxic community and no one should have to stop playing a game to mute someone due to some pubescent child who just wants to talk rubbish.

Yes they do have to start somewhere but adding a system such as voice comms into a game where it is voice comms that has actually broken it is not the answer, they have been trying by buffing solo players and I will say that imo it is not working, its dumbing the game down, as I said to fix somthing you must first find what is broken, once you find the broken part you go to the source and repair it, if SWF is what breaks the game then they need to look directly at what to do with SWF and not constantly try and work around it.

The devs dont even play their own game. The game is targeted towards a younger audience and usually everyone speaks english besides from a fwe russians, usually they throw english insults at me after the game

Sure, then let them buff solo up to the SWF lvl and buff killers, I can tell you already now that this will lead to a huge disaster

The game is not Always played perfectly.

A team of strong survivors will have a great chance to win the game of course but isn't that in every game??
A strong killer will have a great chance to win the game also in my opinion.
When you talk about balance, you should not Always only look at the perfect scenario because it almost never is......

I think the game is very well balanced at the moment.

If a strong team of survivors verses an experienced killer (non nurse), then they will win. Thats what were talkign about here

• @Blueberry said:
The game is heavily unbalanced in favor of survivors still. Bar a few exceptions (like nurse, really strong addons, etc) you're only winning if the survivors are dumb ( which can happen a lot ). Both sides played perfectly the killer will lose every time.

If both sides played perfectly, nurse is the only killer that has a chance

So are we balancing around solo or around SWF?

The goal is both I guess? Or what do you mean?

I dont know.
Currently the game is more balanced around solo, so the suggested approach would fit to that.
Do we want the game to be balanced around SWF? Usually I suggest ingame voice comms to balance the game and the answers I receive show me that the majority prefers to keep their advantage

The devs also said we would never have a clown as killer.

Overwatch isnt region locked at all and surprisingly everyone speaks english (nope im not from an english region) if they use the voice comms at all, has worked very well so far even though there is sometimes a kid you have to mute.

As I already said, you wont be forced to use ingame voice comms, overwatch doenst force you either to stick to this example.

ALso it seems like you dont understand what a powerhorse SWF is becuase your suggestions are kinda ridiculous if you think that this would balance SWF onto the lvl of a solo survivor

Now your just trying to use a straw man argument with no substance, having a clown killer and changing the game around a fundamental balance mechanism are two entirely different things.

Of course you won't be forced but you will be disadvantaged if you don't, you can't balance a game such as this using comms and not expect it to have an effect, ovetwatch is an online fps it's not a 1v4 scenario so you cannot compare what the information brings to the table, it also has millions of players, of course it has regions built in, use chose it in the battlenet launcher yes you can change it but you will have a higher ping and your friends lists are not moved over.

Of course I understand hence why I said "for starters", it's why I mentioned not only nerfing them but adding more gen, you know more things to prolong the game so killers have a fair chance against them.

It seems it is you underestime what SWF can do not just in game but before hand and why you think adding voice comms is the overall solution to all killers problems.

Straw man argument? Nah it just shows how fast the devs change their opinion. They also claimed that the game originally was designed around solo play and they claimed that for 2 years. Now they stated the opposite...

• This was reported even on the same day after they release this, but nothing happened so far and it made it through into live builds without adressing anymore.

Thus, I guess its intended.

The funny thing is that it does exactly the opposite than it should. IF the killer gets denied his hit by such "feature", then he will become really salty and "secure" this kill even harder. I have noticed this playing solo survivor, being farmed by random plebs as well as playing killer myself.

Sure, you get a few additional seconds of sprinting around, but you will regret it deeply. JUst another of these completely flawed designs

I mean you also mentioned being able to buy blood point offerings as well. Which is certainly p2w. Anything that you can purchase to get ahead of other players is pretty much the definition of P2W.

But even the map offering isn't good. If you pay a few hours of killer/survivor a night. You'll run into the same players over and over again. Being able to spot a user and be like, oh this is that nurse player, send him to this map. Especially when you want to buy Haddonfield offerings. Pretty sure I'm not the only one on that thinks that map sucks for killers.

Haddonfield can be a mess and a living nightmare for a killer.
I play mainly SWF and I am considered ,,The Tank" in my SWF Group.
Which means I try to get the Killers attention and show him around the map, while my Friends to the gens.
Since day one I wonder why this works in like 99% of the times xD

Once you juked a killer he really wants to get your butt obviously and is running behind you in the same house (Lauries House with the open Basement Window <3) for ages and years xD

I would love to buy Haddonfield Offerings!

Yeah some killers still havent realized that they are not playing the power role (at least not with most killers)

Maybe even a Mod or the Devs will read it and implement it.

Now that we have the Cash Shop filled with Customes (Remember, you can only wear one Outfit at once!) we should go the next step!
Add new Services!

Add some of the Offerings in a Pack of I dont know 5, 25, 50, 100 and sell them.
Like: Buy 5 Map Offerings of Heddonfield for 0,99$ (25 for 3,99$, 50 for 7,99$, 100 for 14,99$).
Or like: Buy 5 Streamers for 3,99$ (Due to Balance and to avoid P2W!!!! this should cost more than 0,99$).

I bought all the Cosmetics so far that I need for my Main Surv/Killer + Off Surv/Killer. I might buy some if I really like a piece, but over all my Money is sinking in this game. I want to invest more and this could be a nice way to keep the Moneystream on :)

What you guys thinking?

"that's not really a reason to not implement dedicated game servers, right?"

Conclusion

Other companies have managed to change their P2P system to dedicated systems (of even a hybrid system). So could BHVR. It only depends on them being willing to do so.

Why is my post assumed to be anti-dedicated server stance? I have no problem with dedicated servers and I have mentioned this multiple times in this thread. I'm in for everything that makes the gaming experience better for everyone. Just as how a healthy discussion works, I listed out to cons. It is also essential to make other players realise that Dedicated Servers has it's own drawbacks, and not everything will be rosy as it seems.

In this community there is only black and white. EIther you are a killer main that wants to keep his advantage of laggswitching or you are a survivor main wanting dedicated servers such that you cant be laggswitched
anymore. All that even though laggswitching isnt even a real thing anymore. Thats the mentality here

@Vietfox

Thats what most killer mains do when they blame the game's balance instead of their skills

This is where your actual arguement ended and the killer/survivor bias started showing.

Saying that current servers are fine is killer biased to begin with, since killers are the one who host and don't have to go through laggy matches as often as survivors.
I'm pretty sure that if someone is in a game that has both options, like L4D2, no one picks "local servers" because obvious reasons (unless they want to play with mods).

As someone who plays both but mainly survivor, no, it's unfortunate that lagswitching is a thing at all, let alone one sided, and the occasional "I should have not been hit" happens. But its consistent. I dont make those plays anymore because I know how the hitboxes are, and that even a meter of distance off can down me because its killer server based. I wont go for a pallet drop or a vault if I'm not SURE I have the room and account for possible "lag".

They're not perfect at all, but they're consistent and tolerable unless you get all sweaty every game for max bp. Even at rank 1 it's not the thing that causes most problems. Hook farming and bond leads are more problematic imo.

NTM you can see killer ping in pre lobby....

Yeah but this thread is about dedicated servers, i already complained about hook farmers in another thread.
They can be tolerable sometimes, but that doesnt mean they shouldnt improve it, same way they fixed many other issues with the game.
About the ping in the lobby... I wish i could trust that, but we all know that you can get lag spikes even when ping is green, and some of them suspiciously convenient for the killer.

It was about dedicated servers then turned into the normal killer vs survivor bias. Dedicated servers would be nice, but would only open more lagging to all sides, and more unseen issues we may not even know could be a problem.

The "killer side lag that can be dealt with dedicated servers" isnt so bad as to cause more problems with the game, imo. Like I said, it's unfortunate when it happens, if someone lag switches to hell and back, but when it's just inches of space or a half second of an animation that the killer lag caused, its not that bad. When I first started this game I complained a LOT about "lag". Then I learned to play around the minuscule problems that occur.

And yeah, I get lag spikes from green ping, but it's either very seldom and non problematic, or such obvious lag switching I just die on first hook and move on.

How can dedicated servers be nice and open more lagging to all sides at the same time?
Dedicated servers exist for a logical reason, they are way less problematic than local servers.
I still don't understand why this game was designed for local servers...

Because there is only one side that has to aim.
It is easier to make the game run on realtime on the killers side since survivors only have to escape, they dont have to aim like in a FPS game and the only issues occur when there is really high ping (lobby dodge if you verse a killer from another region)
The only real issue about p2p in my opinion is that they cant really punish DCs (at least I assume thats the reaosn why they dont punish them)

Imagine if theyve complete redone their code and everone plays on dedicated servers now. Survivors wouldnt be hit by weird looking hits, ASSUMING that there connection is fine and I can tell you that most survivors dont have a stable connection (otherwise they wouldnt accuse me of laggswitching  )

But the big problem will be on the killers side. If you only have the slightest amount of lagg, how are you supposed to hit a fast-moving target like a 360ing survivor for example?
Or imagine playing huntress or nurse with lagg, we already see on console how much the framrate affects those two, now imagine additioal lagg.....

• @Vietfox said:
Khalednazari said:

Vietfox said:

Rocket league has servers for different regions and lets you choose in which ones you wanna queue

Yes, but server lags are still a thing. For example, a killer hits a survivor, but it doesn't register a hit since the server didn't recieve a packet that resulted in a hit due to some lag. Something like struggling on the hook will need to change too, but it constantly needs to send data registering the struggle, a few misses, and you're dead.

Dedicated servers are always less laggy than local servers. If someone lags that hard with dedicated servers maybe online games aren't for them.
I already die while struggling because of killer's internet sometimes and get hit 2 meters away from the window as well. Dedicated servers would be more fair for everyone, not just for one side of the game.

Playing killer might be impossible with small lagg in the current game.
Imagine hitting a 360ing survivor if you dont have perfect ping..... not sure how thats gonna work out.

A lot of stuf would have to change to enable dedicated servers, and sure it would be better in the long run but I highyl doubt that the devs will ever got through this effort

I agree with the OP. DS on the obsession is fine. Annoying to deal with, but not something you can't beat. The problem with DS comes when more than 1 person has it. Only the obsession should be able to DS, just increase the skill check size for every instance of DS in the group so there is still some benefit to run more than 1. And if you are crying about not being able to USE your DS, just equip more obsession perks to be picked as the obsession. Yes they suck but if you want to always be picked as the obsession you should have to sacrifice something, like a perk slot. Or take the chance you won't be the obsession and just run DS.

Thats not a real solution and you know that.

• I will only camp if survivors make it a better strategy than searching for another one.

• I dont understand why its a thing either, but then there are a lot of weird things in the game and I asume its just a feature they introduced accidentially and kept it as feature instead of adressing the prolbem (just like the hitbox abuse looping)

There is no true counterplay, dribbling only works if survivor goes down near a hook or someone bodyblocks.

Boil over in its current state is of dubious value, but any solution needs to avoid increasing the amount of unreachable blind spots for hooks.

One semi-reliable method to give boil over value would be to invert the controls of the killer. The way it produces value is:

-To experienced killers, inverted controls will not be a huge detriment
-However, the first time a killer picks someone up with boil over, a few seconds will at least be lost before it is realized that controls are inverted (assuming no indicator icon is shown)
-This increases the chance of being flashlight saved/body blocked in those fleeting moments it takes a killer to realize he/she is inverted.

Example Perk:

• Your struggling effects on the Killer are increased by 25/50/75 %.
• You obscure the Killer's ability to see Hook Auras within 10/12/14 metres.
• If you have already been hooked, killer controls will be inverted when carrying you.

There was the suggestion to make a clown addon that inverted survivor controls.

People may bring up a point that this will change the meta because a survivor (with my Decisive buff) can fake like they have it and not wiggle, a type of stalling for other survivors. What i say is that if they do that they risk getting taken to the basement (or closer to it an advantage hook spot etc) What do you all think, buff, nerf or is Decisive fine the way it is?

Sure buff DS, I wanna see the game die

The point if giving those players that want to communicate the tools to do it. As I already said, all the arguments non-english and immersion breaking or completely pointless, just disable the feature if you dont like it. Why are solo players disadvantaged because other solo survivors refuse to use their mics or cant speak english? I dont see a reason why we shouldnt have voice comms, look at overwatch for example, works pretty well over there.

How do you wanna nerf SWF? Explain....

You will never be able to properly balance the game this way

Well you bought the wrong game if you want in game communication, the devs have stated many times it won't be added, if you want to use it then why not play with friends on discord like the others and leave the game as it is.

The game came as is, it has never had voice comms and to balance it using it now would negate why a lot of people purchased it and yes it will ruin immersion for lots of people, the whole point of not knowing and having to use you sight, hearing and knowledge is part of the game for lots of people.

How are those arguments pointless? Of course if they added voice chat and they balanced it with that in mind those who don't have mics and those who can't hear them would both be disadvantaged, were your serious when you said that? English is not the only language and its highly rude to think otherwise, to say well don't use it is also mind blowing, the product they bought would also change and if its detrimental to how they enjoy it the devs would have to do something like seperate the playerbase into comms and no comms or solo queue v swf which would never happen as any killer would rather play v non voice comms players it's common sense.

Overwatch has millions of players you cannot compare a game like that to a game with 25-30k on at anyone time, of course that can work for the majority of the playerbase as they can set more regions so they put players of the same language into each of them.

You can't think of it from an English only speaking point of view its very ignorant to even think that way, also what about the english speaking Oceanic region where the playerbase can be small at times and they can get matched with asian players quite a lot, should they learn Chinese or Japanese to name a couple just to play a game properly? Should they deal with a high ping and be matched with people from the UK and US only so they can play a game that's balanced for voice comms?

They could start by nerfing items and add-ons, take the worst case a 4 man SWF, they cannot stack offeringsl or items, one toolbox, one flashlight, one insta heal etc and if there is one in game chest only give normal medkits or maps in game, certain perks cannot be used by all players like adrenaline, unbreakable, borrowed time again to name a few, some perks are also lvl 1 only, they have a gen or two more to do and that's just for starter to see how it goes, if they wish to use a third party to tool to gain advantage over others and break the premise of the game then they get disadvantaged.

The devs also said we would never have a clown as killer.
If you dont balance the game around voice comms now, then it would ruin the game for players that purchased it before it was a thing, but I assume you dont care about the killers

Overwatch isnt region locked at all and surprisingly everyone speaks english (nope im not from an english region) if they use the voice comms at all, has worked very well so far even though there is sometimes a kid you have to mute.

ofc we need to ability to remove it completely or mute specific players, but we need the option of vioce comm if we ever want a balanced game

To be fair that's a very ignorant stance, to expect others to speak English is quite rude, not all of them actually do its just a very large portion that are capable.

The game was not designed for players with an in game voice chat, it breaks immersion for a lot of people, whats the point in having it if you have to mute everyone? then there are people who simply don't want to talk, they bought a game without it, should they now be disadvantaged in a game they have played for two years simply due to those who decided to utilise SWF and chat breaking the game?

No voice chat should never be added to this game, SWF needs nerfed, we all know where the problem lies, you cant fix a problem by trying to fix everything around it all that does is leave the problem to get worse, you go direct to the root and sort it.

If they had dedicated language servers it might work out, but the EU point would still provide some problems in that realm as there are at least 20 major languages in the EU if not more. However if they made it like the forums where there are English forums here, then one would assume you speak English there.

But oh wait that brings them back to dedicated servers.

I wonder how ingame voice comms work in other games then
I am from EU btw^^

The point if giving those players that want to communicate the tools to do it. As I already said, all the arguments non-english and immersion breaking or completely pointless, just disable the feature if you dont like it. Why are solo players disadvantaged because other solo survivors refuse to use their mics or cant speak english? I dont see a reason why we shouldnt have voice comms, look at overwatch for example, works pretty well over there.

How do you wanna nerf SWF? Explain....
You will never be able to properly balance the game this way

• And I thought there are news on the rework....

Nice bait... :'(

SWF at its strongest, coordinating perks and saves and then adrenaline procs.

This is just one of the reasons solo can never be balanced with SWF and SWF needs a direct nerf instead.

Ingame voice comms?

In what sense? SWF using comms yes seriously overpowered.

Adding in game voice so solo can use them? no its not a solution as it only works if all the people speak the same language, think about the EU region and it would never work, thats not even mentioning the screeching over the mic, its bad enough in the end game chat without giving this community the tools to verbally abuse people.

Going on 2 years now, DBD has made a lot of progress on fixing a lot of balance issues (removal of infinites, pallet changes, and so forth), but it still tolerates a lot of design imbalance and inconsistencies. Lets talk about killers. Specifically, lets talk about how indirect killers, those who should have more utility and x-factors over direct killers, are somehow given less. And it baffles me why this is so.

For the longest time, there has been the generally agreed upon trinity of nurse/hillbilly/huntress being regarded as the only consistent viable killers at high ranks. As evidenced throughout the various tweaks and reworks (cubes?) from various patches, I don't think the developers grasp the humongous magnitude of the chasm between the strengths of these killer's hero powers in comparison to the rest of the killer crew.

Killers like nurse, hillbilly, and huntress when played to their fullest potential end chases within 5 to 30 seconds. Other M1 killers are spending 30s to 2 minutes consistently being pallet looped, but on top of that, these other killers are the ones who are being given extra restrictions and extra drawbacks for some unknown reason.

Let me do some comparisons to drive home how deep the gap truly is.

Wraith vs Hillbilly:

Wraith is supposed to use stealth as a superior form of patrolling generators and starting chases closer to people. The problem is that Hillbilly does those 2 things better.
Wraith has extra movement speed when cloaked to patrol generators.
But hillbilly has even more movement speed to patrol generators and it 1 shots people simultaneously.
... while poor wraith must resort to M1 chasing people over the course of a minute at best around a few pallets.
Wraith is not fully invisible. High ranking survivors often see him coming and can react. Sprint burst away before an M1 chase even begins.
Hillbilly can cover his terror radius in mere moments and then start an M1 chase. In practice, he gets to start a lot of chases really close. Closer than wraith actually in a lot of common instances.

Yet for some bizarre reason, it is wraith who is punished with extra restrictions like flashlight lightburn and not on someone like nurse/billy/huntress who have direct chase ending potential. They should be the ones with huge drawbacks to reign in the advantages of a direct killer power.

For crying out loud, wraith walks around slowly ringing a bell for a few seconds, but billy can exit chainsaw almost instantly and begin the chase.

Trapper vs Huntress

Huntress starts with multiple axes. They do direct damage at range.
Trapper starts with 1 trap. It might do indirect damage.
Huntress reloads everything with any one locker opening.
Trapper must scour the entire map to pick up 1 trap at a time.
Huntress winds up and moves slower to line up a shot.
Trapper is completely still and his animation takes longer.
Trapper can trap pallets loops and it might do something.
Huntress can force guaranteed damage hits on pallet drops/vaults within loops.

Who is spending several minutes getting loops and must invest several minutes to use their power to put and end to various loops vs who is instantly ending chases and getting free hits in mere seconds?
It gets worse when you consider that even when trapper's traps which only might be triggered do actually trigger, its still not a guaranteed kill. Unless you're there the survivor escapes the bear trap.
And then who has the sabotage vulnerability? Huntress can't have her lockers sabotaged. Its the poor trapper with the extra downsides.

And to keep beating a dead horse, guess who has the superior addons on top of that:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zBi5ew19WHo

What I'm afraid is going to happen given the track record with rework and balance changes in the past is that the upcoming mid-chapter killer re-balance is going to have a laundry list of little things like we reduced wraith's uncloak time by 0.2 seconds and sped up trapper's animations by 5% and then pat themselves on the back. That's not going to cut it. Being forced to be M1 killers spending time in longer chases multiple times over, things like Wraith and Trapper need to have the upper hand in utility. Wraith needs to be faster than billy when stealthed. Wraith needs to be fully invisible to match billy's ability to ambush people with his speed covering his terror radius. And even then, one has to wonder if that is enough to justify being an M1 killer over one who can consistently 1-shot people. If that sounds very powerful, its because the top tier killers are for some reason given so much power in multiple areas beyond their instant-kill potential.

My point is, these gaps in power are so massive that entire reworks are needed. Not just small number changes. I've talked a lot of about clown vs huntress in the past, but these are way bigger chasms that need to be bridged sensibly.

The gap between nurse and freddy is small if we compare it to the gap between solo and SWF at the moment (especially as long as rank doesnt mean anything)

The problem is that the devs designed the game for casual players, just liek themselves. The whole game needs a rework basically, but that will never happen sadly

• After they adressed the genrush issue, sure BNP can be buffed a bit

I get hit and downed 100% because of latency, which is another HUGE issue in this game, then get a reverse bear trap on my head.

I go to all but one machines to get it of and get all great skill checks. By the time I get to the last one, I am out of time and I die.

Either make the timer longer, make the skill check give a substantial success increase, or fix the RNG.

These issues are straying my friends and me away from this game.

So you complain that your connection isnt stable? Well there are things you can do about that, but guses thats another topic.....

Do you have footage of you hitting only great skillchecks at the machines but sitll not getting it off while pig isdoing sth else? I simply dont believe you because the key is always in the last box for me, but I still have enough time

And yes RNG should be removed, it cant be real that survivors get the key a fwe seconds after unhook (that always happened to me the few times I played her)

Queue times seem to be considerably up on PS4.

I don't think its the devs fault, other than there hasn't been any meaningful content in a few months. It could be people are just getting bored or burned out after the hallowed ground event. I'd love to see the statistics of player base drop with RDD2 came out.

I like the game, but I've pretty much stopped playing unless friends are on. I'm working through the backlog of other games.

I'm more in your camp than anything. I like DbD but it's basically the same round on repeat. The current Perk Meta is boring AF and after 50 rounds or so I'm just not excited to log on. I'll be playing BF5 for a bit and checking back in after the new killer drops but I really need something new to make this exciting again.excited

True, im taking a break too.
The halloween event was just the final blow, im so tired of runing in circles atm
We got fallout 76 (maybe lul) and bf5 coming right now, additionally destiny turned f2p

• The scratch marks already show into the left direction even though the survivor turned right, but ok spread them even further apart

I can imagine 7 survivors making a conga line body blocking the hook or kneeling around you when you throw one on your shoulders, making a survivor wall all around ya'. Swarming a downed survivor to heal, would look like a scene out of a zombie movie. Flashlight brigade manning their battle stations. Would look like a bunch of fruit gnats swarming a rotted apple.

You have one chaser and a bubba.
Bubby will take care of that conga line, no worries

• Sure maybe after we get dedicated servers in 2025 sometime

Just remove it too, who cares

• What other game has this problem?
Leauge of legends for example, not sure whether you consider it a competent game, but it definitely has some esports

I have a friend that plays lol on a potato laptop and if he tabs out, he can hold us hostage for 10+mins easily^^
