@Hex_Flex Peanits said, as replies in other threads a week or so ago, that the current system of DCs vs Games Played is pretty much where things stand until after Dedicated Servers.
-
@Kim Well, that might change. If you read the April Dev Undate posted today in the News section, Legion is getting changes in the upcoming mid-chapter patch, and those changes will be revealed in a post next week.
-
@jackkn12 I mean no offense or disrespect, but if those are the reasons you left, then there's no reason to come back. Such things are also not unique to DbD, but exist in pretty much every PvP game out there.
-
@pemberley Yeah, I hear you. One of their Hero Design devs came to the forums recently and stated that having started with Ashe, the next several new heroes are going to be very aim reliant. Now, that doesn't affect me, but for people like my wife and many others, it's a bad sign.
The wife and I mostly play Paladins nowadays for our team-shooter fix. No hyper-movement and much easier for her to aim in.
I'm interested to see what they've done with Freddy. I guess the May reveal will tell us one way or another. And although I am not a Freddy main, I do like him and hope that you mains out there aren't left in the dumpster.
-
@Peanits and @not_Queen Good update. Looking forward to hearing more next week, and about Freddy in May.
-
@FayeZahara No problem. It's just hard to tell who is trolling around these forums and who is serious. Hope the link helped.
-
@Carpemortum Yeah, to be honest, it seemed a bit out of forum-character for you. But hey, it happens. 😁
-
They just need to do what Blizzard does with Overwatch: Ban the false reporters after enough are made.
-
I'd say Leatherface takes the trophy. I personally find him even worse than Freddy.
-
@Detective_Jonathan I do believe the game will eventually bounce back and numbers will rise again. One thing drastically in its favor is the lack of competition in the genre.
That said, it's going to be a combination of things. If the full patch notes for the mid-chapter update look good, that might be one. Dedicated Servers going live might be another. Then they'll probably toss in a couple of double BP events. I would not be shocked if this mid-chapter update gets one, and another when dedicated servers are fully online.
Now, one of them might fail to jump numbers on more than a temporary basis. But if all of the above fail? Well, then I'd say the goose might be cooked.
Also, if they screw the pooch on whatever endgame changes they have planned, that changes my stance as well. That could very easily cook their goose.

@pemberley and @Jackikins I still play Overwatch once in a while, and they need to transfer Kaplan and Goodman to another project. I played WoW back when Kaplan and Goodman were there, and Goodman handled class balance back when we had full talent trees. It was class talent reworks hot-and-cold running every other month, and balance just got worse. Goodman was the single reason why the wife walked away from WoW before Cata and never looked back.
If I had paid attention in Beta that both of them were on Overwatch, I'd have skipped the damned game.
The issue with them is that those in charge of Overwatch have only previous MMO-PvE experience, and it shows in spades. They should never have been put in charge of a team-heavy PvP-only shooter.
My daughter walked away from Overwatch thanks to the Mercy fiasco. It's even more a kick in the teeth now because they removed mass rez, then add in Baptiste with the damned immortality field every 20-seconds.
Anyway, from what I've seen from the Dev Update and a couple of CM posts, it does sound like Freddy got the Symmetra treatment. It sounds like he is different from the ground up, especially when they mentioned it was basically like designing a new killer, but yet remaining true to the license. So, it does sound like he's going to be completely different.
My remaining question is: Will this make him viable at high ranks finally, or is it exactly like Symmetra turned out?
-
@Carpemortum Now, while I agree that we keep getting the same complaints ad nauseam at these forums, and that whole 9/10 games is a severe exaggeration, I've also seen folks hammering people with new forum accounts. Here in this thread wasn't the only one.
You guys do recall that they just had a free weekend, and that the game was just on sale for $10, right? Now, color me stupid, but I would like to assume that the free weekend and sale brought in actual new players. New players who would also have a brand new forum account, and who wouldn't necessarily be aware of all the repeated complaints we got at these forums before their arrival.
-
@Meme I was told by a CM a week or so ago in a thread that the current threshold of DCs versus games played is what's in place until after dedicated servers go live.
At that point they plan to be able to tell between an intentional DC and an internet issue, and adjust the system accordingly.
Now, I already told them that no they can't, and even Blizzard and Riot can't do that. The reason being, a player doesn't like a match, so instead of using the U.I. to leave the match, they simply disconnect their internet and are dumped from the match. It is an intentional DC that looks like an internet crash.

@pemberley said:
As a (former - I don’t really play Overwatch anymore) Symmetra main whose rework completely alienated me from Symmetra and the game itself, I really hope this isn’t the case with Freddy.
Freddy is accessible and right up my alley as someone who is disabled and can’t make use of precision killers, as well as someone who adores his aura reading capacity.
Please don’t do Freddy and us Freddy players dirty like what was done to Symmetra.
@pemberley I still play Overwatch, though a hell of a lot less nowadays. Been there since midway through Beta. And yeah, her rework completely screwed you guys over. The icing on the cake was that her rework (and even the minor buffs since then) did absolutely nothing to make her any more viable above Gold rank than she was before. She's still a niche Hero that will get you reported in the higher competitive ranks.
I've no doubt that Freddy's power and play style are being changed on a "Symmetra" level. But if he isn't more viable at the higher ranks, than it's the same thing for nothing that Symmetra went through.
-
According to responses made to threads about DCs a week or two ago by CM people: Yes.
-
@Khalednazari Critical? Weren't you the one that made the thread about the DbD edition with all the disconnect perks and such? If so, you were hilarious.
I wish we could vote on threads. That one was pure gold. Thread of 2019.
-
@FayeZahara If you're being serious (hard to tell with folks around here), it wasn't a stream. It's a post in the News section of the forums.
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/57097/developer-update-april-2019#latest

@Delfador Some folks at the forums were guessing last week of April for the PTB, and a release by mid-May. I'd say that guess looks feasible. They could do the info reveal next week, and PTB the following week.
I hope so, anyway.
Naturally, I would love PTB to also happen next week, but I won't grab pitchforks about it.
-
But where would the cut off be? Player disconnects at load in, so it becomes a 3v1. Pop-up asks about continuing match. Killer votes yes, survivor votes yes, the other two vote no.
So now it becomes a 1v1? Or two survivors vote yes along with the killer and the fourth player votes no. So now a 2v1? Or is it majority rule and the survivor(s) who voted no and were out voted are stuck unless they DC? What if two players vote yes and two vote no?
It's just too many variations to account for in the coding, unless it is made into a simple all or nothing vote. All four vote yes, or the match ends with a single no vote.
Plus, how many would actually vote to continue considering the 3v1 matches have been a complaint ad nauseam since it screws with the ability to pip and earn BP.
I just don't see where the time and resources for the coding are worth it.
-
I have to admit, I liked what I read today, and am looking forward to some more info next week and more on Freddy in May.
@PhantomMask20763 We've talked quite a bit privately and I said how what I heard concerning the mid-chapter patch would determine if I stay or go. As of right now, it looks like a solid stay. Which I am quite pleased to tell you.

@Theluckyboi said:
Will nobody talk about Legion being updated?
@Theluckyboi Sure they will. Matter of fact, folks here made a shiny new thread just to discuss it. https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/57101/time-to-pray-my-legion-brothers-and-sisters#latest
-
@JawsIsTheNextKiller I play Freddy right now at Rank 14-15 as a Level 1 with only 1 perk and 3k with him at that low rank. I didn't put any bloodpoints into him yet, and I need to see the rework concept next month before I do. I don't get to play often, so don't want to waste a ton of BP on add-ons and such that might not be worth a damn with the rework.
Legion is the same. I got him to level 10 and stopped because something in my gut just kept telling me a shift was coming with the mid-chapter patch. Well, that and at Rank 14-15, I was pipping and double-pipping with him often enough. I still need a lot of practice on killer, and still need to get some bloodpoints to hopefully find some decent perks for any of my killers, so I did not want to rank-up to Rank 10 and crap too fast.
-
@PhantomMask20763 I was referring to the matter of the Sym rework actually doing nothing to make her viable outside of the same Bronze-Gold ranks, i.e. the low ranks. While at the same time alienating most the Sym mains out there.
Unless Freddy's rework actually increases his viability toward the higher ranks (and not just with the select few who can already make him work up there), it's just the same damned thing.
-
Right now, I am feeling damned lucky that I haven't dedicated a lot of time or bloodpoints into Freddy or Legion yet. I will definitely be holding off on doing so now.
-
So I guess its officially coming huh? All the time I took to learn this killer and make him viable all worthless?
@PhantomMask20763 You'll know what I mean by this, but why am I suddenly feeling shades of the "Symmetra rework" upcoming with the Freddy over here?
Man, I hope not.
-
Catch ya on the flip-flop.

@KillermainBTWm8 said:
I want: to have fun and get a decent amount of blood points because if you win but didn't have fun during the match I count that as a loss.
@KillermainBTWm8 Same here. I just want to play a horror killer, have fun, and get bloodpoints. I don't care an ounce for pips and rank.
-
@johnmwarner I just got my Doc to level 33. He'll be level 40 by tonight or tomorrow. And so far, I have a lot of fun on him. Another killer I have a lot of fun on, too, besides him being considered weak, is Freddy.
But as for Doc, he is a BP generator, especially with BBQ, Distressing, and an offering for a BP bonus in another category. I plan to farm BP with him and use them to level Nurse for the teachables, since I have no intent of ever playing Nurse. Will likely do the same for Hag and Clown.
-
@Gamzello I think it has something to do with the P2P hosting system. Peanits said that they can't tell when a DC is intentional, and when it is due to actual internet issues. He said they hope to be able to tell the difference with dedicated servers.
I told him: Lots of luck. Even Riot and Blizzard can't determine that, which is why DC'ing in ranked for any reason is a ban. Period.
And the reason is: A match is going poorly. I rage. I'm leaving the match. But, instead of using the game interface to leave the match, I simply turn off the internet to my computer for a few seconds. Game disconnects due to internet issues. Takes (what?) 30-seconds to launch the game again?
So, now I've purposefully DC'ed but made it look like an internet issue for their tracking system. Ban avoided.
That's why the Big Boys ban regardless of DC source. Players aren't idiots and everyone knows how to end-run it.
So, I wish Behavior all the luck in determining an intentional DC versus a legitimate internet issue. And if they insist on going that route, I see little changing about DCs and bans. But, then again, Ranked is their only mode, they don't have a non-ranked mode that can use a more lax DC-ban system. They kind of painted themselves into a corner with the hair-brained design decision to only have ranked.
-
@p00p3rz It's pretty much what @tt_ivi_99 stated as far as reasoning. The forums rule against posting names in screenshots and such (usually called Naming and Shaming) is a fairly common forum rule across game forums. Matter of fact, at some game forums, the first time you'd get a warning, the second time a ban. I've seen it happen.
And yeah, sometimes the in-game reporting doesn't result in the outcome we feel it should. Again, that's not uncommon in games. Hell, there are multiple people in Overwatch that I felt should have been banned, but weren't. Then again, there are some that were (Blizzard sends you a notice that action was taken against a reported account, not the specific action, but it isn't hard to figure out).
-
@Slayer Well, what Patricia said they're basically doing is sending it live, seeing where it doesn't work well overall, pulling it back, making adjustments, rinse and repeat.
Right now, they are supposedly making many adjustments to it. When that's done, it'll go live again for more testing and analysis throughout the entire player base. Will it stay live at the point or revert again for more adjustments? We do not know.
Welcome to Dead by Daylight: Matchmaking Roulette Edition.
-
@Remisee Is a happy thought, but I've worked on many licenses over the course of my career. Would never happen. Those royalties are locked in for the term-life of the contract. If Behavior did ever want to allow folks to use Shards for them, they'd have to pay the royalty for each of those purchases out of their own coffers as though the customer made a real money purchase.

I was only warning the person who was pondering to buy Legion or not. We all know the DC rates, and threats Legion players get so I thought it was good to let them know what can happen.
Overwatch is different though because people can just join in (at least in quick play) after someone has DCed. (Idk Paladins very well so I won't comment on it.)
DCing in a game like DBD doesn't have other people join in once someone DCs, it remains like that for the rest of the match which could ruin the killer's fun.
<Out of topic, but I had no clue that people had such an issue against Doomfist? I thought he was pretty weak at first but it's been awhile since I played OW.>
@Gamzello True. You bring up good points about DCs in DbD versus OW. In Paladins, a bot takes over the characters, which is the same as being utterly useless.
<off-topic Doomfist at launch was weak, then he got buffed, nerfed again, and buffed again. He's a bit of a pain in the ass right now, to be honest. Kind of like Legion or Nurse, here>
-
@TreemanXD I agree. I only play for fun. I stopped playing any game in a competitive way over a year ago.
-
@Remisee As others have pointed out (and you acknowledged) licensed characters can only be purchased with real money. The reason for that is because the licensor gets a royalty percentage of the MSRP for each unit sold. So, allowing them to be purchased with Shards would not be allowed per the royalty clause of any licensing agreement.

The problem for me was never her being necessarily hard to beat, just obnoxious to deal with. And since she was a very low skill character, at least in comparison to the rest of the cast, she was in literally every match I'd play. It got bad enough that I stopped enjoying the game altogether. (And with Hammond and Ashe coming immediately after, character concepts weren't really enough to inspire me to come back)
@ClogWench Well, she's a core part of that damned GOATS meta that has been going on too long, so she is in almost every OWL match as well this season. I stopped watching it entirely, and apparently I'm not the only one. The OWL numbers keep dropping.

@PhantomMask20763 My now 19-year-old daughter was hospitalized at Sheppard Pratt here in Maryland when she was 17-years-old for depression and suicidal thoughts that went along with a severe eating disorder.
She's doing much better now, eats normally, has a full-time job, a boyfriend, and her weight is where it needs to be.
But she was close enough to death, and it happened rapidly (lost 30 pounds in a month before we knew what was going on, and was down to 104lbs at 5'9" tall), that we went through a lot.
-
@PhantomMask20763 and others: Just remember that we aren't trained professionals. Being there for them to talk to is one thing, but we should always be careful in what we say and how we handle it, because it isn't hard for any of us to inadvertently make the situation worse.
-
@pootis_Bear Oh. Damn. It must have been posted and deleted during a time I wasn't here. Thanks for the heads up.
Well, I sincerely hope that person doesn't go through with it.
-
Didn't this already happen weeks ago? End of March to be specific? Or did today change something yet again, and I missed the memo.
-
@BigBubs No, I can understand the post from @Carpemortum (unless this is a troll post and I'm misreading it, but that doesn't seem like them).
At least as far as some eSports have been going lately, there's been news reports of some top players retiring abruptly due to severe depression and suicidal urges. Granted, their issues are unrelated to eSports and pre-dated their joining the teams, but playing a video game seriously takes a toll on such folks as well.
It's not a bad reminder to put out there for gamers, to be honest. My company used to do similar things when I worked in table-top RPGs.
-
@Peanits Thank you for that reply. I've wanted to mess with it for DbD because my eyes aren't that great, and sometimes it's just a real eye-muscle strain to play on certain maps. Good to know that it isn't cheating.
Again, thank you.
-
Sounds like an angry kid or teenager (no offense to you teenagers out there). I've seen worse than that, a lot worse, in my time across different PvP games. It's the primary reason I turn Match chat off in any game that allows me to do so. Who wants to read that junk?
If anyone ever types to me after a match of DbD, I never see it.
-
Dead by Daylight, Overwatch, Paladins, you name it, I've had days where those stretches have reared their ugly heads and bitten me in the privates.
It happens. Just press on, and it'll swing back the other way. Just seems to be how it always works out.
If it happens to be tilting you, though, then I strongly suggest shutting down DbD for the day and playing something else, or nothing at all. Come back the next day. If you play tilted, you'll likely make elementary mistakes and suffer even more.
-
@ClogWench Yeah. Unfortunately, you weren't the only one. Now, I never had an issue dealing with her, but I'm a flex player with a deep roster. So, I could either Junkrat her or jump to Pharah and annihilate her.
Nowadays, she's a complete joke. With all her nerfs, I've beaten her in close-quarters as Soldier 76. But people still hate her.
Mei, though . . . Mei makes me want to punch my monitor.
As far as Legion, he is far from unbeatable as well. Annoying? Yeah, I can see that. But it isn't like he still can't be stunned and so forth. Legion players who utilize the mending add-on exploit are a different beast entirely, though. I prefer the Frenzy duration add-ons, myself. I avoid the add-on exploit entirely. Not because I am afraid of a ban or anything, but because the day I have the turn to an exploit to have fun is the day I retire from that particular game.
-
@MystiKasT As far as the SWF remaining as a group one match to the next, Behavior covered that last year or so. They said that SWFs were added later into the game after launch, and the current format is what it's going to be. There would be too much coding work involved to have the groups remain together, and they're not going to devote resources to doing that. Basically, people wanted SWF, they added SWF, but this is what it is. They're not putting more resources into it.
As far as 2-8, I have nothing to add.
-
@Gamzello People DC'ing over a character should never influence someone potentially buying them. Now, granted, I don't pay for heroes in Overwatch, and have the Founders Pack from Paladins beta so every new hero is free for me there as well, but I play Brigitte and the over-buffed Doomfist in Overwatch, and Lian in Paladins, at times. They're as hated in their respective games as Legion seems to be here.
People will get over it, or DC from a match and (maybe) eventually get a ban. Every character-based PvP game has completely annoying characters. Such is life in the genre. You deal with it, or maybe don't play the genre.
-
@Detective_Jonathan Now, I'm being fair about it, too. When I talk about the mid-chapter patch being a determining factor in me staying or going, it isn't an all-or-nothing stance. I don't expect them to fix every issue wrong with the game. But it has to do enough to show that they are seriously making some stride toward it.
Fixing a game is a never-ending process, because bugs will always appear. Make no mistake, that mid-chapter patch will bring some new bugs with it as well. It's just the nature of the beast.
But if they haven't tackled some of the serious issues this time around, or at least tried to, then I don't know what faith there is to have left.
-
@Detective_Jonathan Right, we knew they were coming. My point wasn't that we knew, but with the resources allocated to them, especially the dedicated servers and Switch port, which would not be a small amount, I'm wondering if they didn't overextend and that's why they're quiet. There ended-up being less resources than originally anticipated for the fixes.
As I said, the upcoming mid-chapter PTB patch notes will tell the tale, one way or the other. Either fixes we need for many things still won't be ready, or they will shock us all.
I'm currently in a wait and see holding pattern, but that mid-chapter patch will determine if I stay and continue to invest time and money in the game, or take my business elsewhere because I would absolutely no longer have faith in the studio to get this game out of its backward beta state.
-
@Detective_Jonathan Resources allocated to dedicated servers (no easy task). Resources allocated to the Switch port to release this Fall. Resources already committed to three more chapters for 2019.
I'm wondering if they didn't spread themselves a bit too thin this year. Right now, I am waiting to see the upcoming mid-chapter PTB patch notes. If that patch doesn't blow me away with much needed fixes, then I might be out.
And I can't say whether or not I would come back later and give Behavior a third try.
I'll always love the concept of this game, but as it stands, I have played beta games in better states.
