No, she needs to be buffed differently imo

As of right now, as a new player, I am about prepared to just shelve Dead by Daylight and move on. While I play both Survivor and Killer to learn the game, I prefer Killer. I bought Dead by Daylight in part to play my favorite killers that I grew-up on: Myers, Freddy, and Leatherface. I know: so did a lot of other folks.

The issue I am having at Rank 20 is that whether the Steam Charts show 30k+ people in the game like it does right now, or it's later at night with only 15k in-game, I cannot get a Lobby as a Rank 20 Killer. By the time I'm waiting 10-15 minutes, I just give up. It's boring, and averaging two matches or so an hour means that Ranking beyond the gray ranks is just too much of a real time commitment. Most of it waiting. And I'll be damned if you have a bad match in any of them and can't even Pip once.

Survivor pops quick. And while I have no issue learning that side of the game, Survivor doesn't have the same fun-factor for me as Killer.

Look, I like DBD a lot. But I would like even more to be able to actually play it as a brand new killer at Rank 20. @not_Queen , I'm only tagging you so Behavior is aware. The low rank, new player lobbies are a killer or Killers. And right now, I don't know if I can stick with the game and keep buying DLCs when I'm stuck in those Ranks forever mainly because Lobbies for Killers take an unreasonable amount of time to pop. Very hard to get better, Pip, and get out of those gray ranks when you can't get Trials to play.

You posted this a few days already.

Im gonna tell you the same again. Queues at rank 20-15 are horrible because you cant derank into these ranksd anymore. Once you leave them queues will become very fast.

As survivor you can SWF with a friend of a lil higher rank, then you get instant games too, as killer you unfortunately have to go through a few games until you get faster matches.

Note that on the 13th, there will be rank reset and you might have faster qeueues too

i dont want this to get toxic let me start off by saying that but i want to understand how camping is a legit strat because they want to defend the hook and infinite looping ( i dont think either should be in the game ) is not. Couldn't you argue the same thing about the killer that they can go and get someone else . Is it literally just because when you camp a hook it forces you to die and therefore doesn't waste alot of time? that imo shouldn't be an arguement considering how the game itself causes that to happen. If we are talking do anything it takes to win then looping and camping should be on the same level. either both are in or neither. If you play with friends it kills the fun when they camp no one likes camping but the killers than do it. no one does. New people in the game do not want to be camped. streamers the people who help your game become more widely known hate campers. New players hate campers the only ones who don't hate them are people in high rank ( because the killer doesn't do it ) or the killers who do it themselves. The majority of your player base does not want it. so with all that being said please someone help me understand why camping is fine but looping is not.

Looping and camping are both legit ways to play the game, what are you actually talking about?
Yes new people dont wanna be camped, but new people dont wanna be looped either. Streamers hate camper and streamers hate looper and I doubt that its enjoyable for streamers to watch someone dieing on a hook or runing in circles for several minutes.

By the way, in the next patch the devs actually punish killers for camping, but survivors are still rewarded for looping

  • Yes the devs are currently reworking the maps

  • Freddies terror radius is only applicable for survivors within the dreamworld.
You can theoretically troll survivors with those perks and maybe it works against low ranks, but good survivors will keep track of your location, so....

@DeadByFlashlight I'm a new player, and I see these threads a lot. Seeing what I have to look forward to after putting hours into the game, I am seriously wondering why I should even bother. Maybe it's just better if I shelve the game into the hidden list of my Steam games and go back to Overwatch.

I mean, I came here to get away from Overwatch, but if all this is what I have to look forward to for learning the game and putting time in, it's very much not worth the effort. It's making the issues that drove me from Overwatch seem tame by comparison, and that isn't an easy thing to do.

Why should any new Killer main stick around with DBD? I'm an author. My fans know I game, and often ask me for recommendations. Based on the amount of times these issues are repeated about DBD, why should I bother recommending this game to them?

My recommendation is, play nurse or billy. If you like the design of those killers, then give DBD a try, especially nurse has a chance against everything the survivors throw agains you.
Billy can still be crushed by very competent SWF, but luckily those are rare.

Then there is the other possibility to play DBD, you derank and play casually (or you dont play enough at all to rrank up, depends on how much time you have).

However, if you come with a competitive mindset and expect a balanced game, then stick to those 2 killers.

DBD is a love-hate relation ship. I have put tons of hours into the game even though I hate playing it from time to time. Its always good to have another game you can switch to when you need a break from DBD

  • You can do what ever you want, thats exactly the purpose of KYF.

But dont expect that anyone takes that tournament seriously (especially on console^^)

Are the community manager and or devs reading this and are aware of the state of the game?
As I understand it, without killers no game, because killers are hosting the game.
What needs to be done, that killers want to play against SWF?
All what I am reading support strongly to implement voice so the game can officially change for the better or acknowledge the problem.
I think the majority of the killers would feel better, if there is an official statement that SWF using voice is cheating but their hands are bound to do something against it and they have no intend to find a solution.
If that is the state of the game the killers can accept this and decide to play with it or, like one of the devs stated, play another game like ciV.

With such a statement they would shut down any further discussion of that topic and we as a community could move on and focus on other stuff.

What needs to happen is that killers stop talking and actualyl take action. This happened only once when we had a somehow "organized" strike and survivor queue times went up to 40 mins.

The problem is that killers (including myself btw) just swallow the toxic pill down and accept things, personally I derank now becuase I cant stand high ranks anymore.

As you said, killers are needed to host the game, but as long as there is one for every 4 survivors, the situation is still acceptable in the devs eyes, thats the real issue.

I totally agree with you, but if we don't react now, when we still have a community, the situation can turn into the same situation like on consoles. There the survivors have to wait long for a game, because there is a lack of killers. The longer this situation exist, the more damage will be done.
I think derank to not face SWF just cause another problem. As the game goes on, more and more skilled killers would just derank and crush low rank survivors, what would drive them away.

One of the biggest problem I see with SWF too is that high ranking survs can face low level killers.
If a group of random survivers would face a high ranking killer, they would have fun either.

@not_Queen @Patricia_BHVR let us make a game, where killers WANT to face SWF and don't mind voice.

Damage has to be done, it literally has to hurt and hinder players (survivors) from playing the game, otherwise we wont see any change.
You will always face SWF at any rank and even at low ranks you will face red ranks queueing with low ranks.
The only thing people derank (me too btw) is to avoid the 4 man red ranks genrushing you into oblivion.

YOu have to understand that if SWF of differnt rank would verse a high rank killer instead of a low rank one, then the high rank survivors would simply derank in order to have fun matches.

This is a core problem of the ranking system and there are so many aspects of the game broken now that everything is a complete mess. There are no rewards for rank, piping is ridiculously easy and every pleb can wear the "rank 1 medal" if he just plays enough. Now combine that with the balancing issues and voice comms in SWF and voila

DBD is a game that has been designed for casual solo players, now that players actually try to play it competitively and even use voice comms to coordinate.... well

  • Thats because you verse survivors that cant loop. DS gives the survior a 3rd life basically and is a huge time consumer for the killer.

Might wanna watch the depip squad playing with the meta perk loadout and you will gain an understanding why those perks are so strong (if you really want to understand it)

  • Its working as intended, just act like you were a normal human that doesnt teleport. Then dropping pallets is quite intuitive

  • Sprinting will cancel the heal

Basically moments that made you laugh or go "Why did I do that?" Stuff like that. Only talking in game stuff here. Nothing that happened on the forums.

Mine would be accidentally equipping Scared Hand before the update and someone fell on top of a trap and flew high into the sky lol.

Derank afk with rancor, then tab in after 10 minutes to see the obsession farming points/tbagging or flashlighting in front of me, you know that kind of stuff.

Those are the rare moments you can actually scare a survivor

  • @Lowbei said:
you will never create actual fear here. new players might catch some feelings, but they are short lived. this is more of an action game than a horror game.

you could make the “scariest” monster in the world, and theyll still be getting teabagged at pallets.

Fear in a game like DBD is not created by "scary" pixel, its the power the scary pixels have that should scare the survivor, The issue is that they can just run in circles and have a insane feeling of safety inside their broken loops. They even go that far to taunt the killer..... that should tell you enough

  • Spirit should be able to see blood in phase walk and should have standard improvements in all aspects of her phase walk ability.
Trapper and leatherface desperately need a rework

Doctor, illusionary pallets would be fine imo.

  • @MhhBurgers said:
Lowrank survivors already struggle heavily with ruin, this would make ruin basically an i-win perk for killers that depip on purpose to have those already easy games.

It boils down to the question whether you want to balance the game around low ranks or high ranks. At the moment, the devs balance the game around casual players

  • I agree, matchmaking should be locked within 5 ranks, but of course it will never happen because survivors represent the majority of the cashcows.

You are supposed to git gud and deal with it

In the meantime you can lobbydodge every SFW if you wanna avoid this, sadly thats the only option

I don't see anywhere in the patch notes where being hooked removes Exhaustion, so it seems obvious this is a bug that needs to be fixed.

It was intentional, just one of the shadow nerfs to killer. Devs like to avoid typing them out in the patch note in order to avoid angry killers doing some weird ######### like another killer strike

The huntress hitbox change wasnt mentioned either even though it made her completely useless, they even had the balls to not include this in to PTB and just shadow patch it live

  • Damn dude, if there are signs that you play DBD too much, then this is definitely one

Were there some ######### survivors that clicked their flashlights at your poor grandma?

Franklins to get rid of the toolboxes and medkits, with knock out you can slug a person and make them waste time looking for him.

Franklins is pointless because survivors can pick their items up again, theyy can even tell their teammates where to find the OP toolbox in order to genrush even during a single chase.

Knockout is useless due to voicecomms too, one of the perks that needs a rework desperately, but devs act like voice comms sitll arent a thing

This game is full of toxic players. First off, its too long to find games. The killers connection is usually garbage so there is an ugly lag. Then, you get OP killers. If you dont get OP killers you get useless teammates who will hide, D/C, or simply lack skill. This game has babies these killers so much that it is always in there favor at the same time it is rare to find decent survivor. I quit.

easy solution would be to play killer, but maybe its better if you quit completely

    SO MUCH FUN>>>>

So much it makes me wish I really was with them on a secluded farm with a knife.

    Should it be reworked?

I personally think that since that perk is the only chance when playing casual with nub teammates, it should work even (and especially) when you are left alone by your nub teammates.

Really a disappointment: please rework it (or better rework the skipping of phases if you're the last surv hooked).

    What would be the point?

Do you expect that the killer respects your "100%"? Please dude....

I dunno man, if I'm being chased for the majority of the game and the killer dc's I feel bad or if they get no kills. When survivors can't get a single escape and haven't done many gens I feel bad. Why must I feel remorse for the opposite side. Does anybody else have those moments when you don't feel good about the win? Even if you earned it fairly?

I feel bad half of the time I play survivor

  • @Rtdib2 said:
Happened two times in a row, both of the times they camped around the hook as soon as I hooked their friend. And if not that they went were hitting all the great skill checks and practically gen rushing. On a killer I'm still learning the quirts on. Just because I'm decent with one or two killers, doesn't result in the same way with the other killers like playing different survivors does. Not to mention I shouldn't be that high ranked of a killer but only am cause it's easy to bloodpoints playing killer. Now you know why I dread playing killer and stick to being a survivor main.

    My advice:

Identify the boosted survivor (rank 2 have to team up with rank 20s etc in order to face you), then focus on that guy because he will most likely have no idea how to play and you can catch him easy.

Either you remove him fast from the game (called tunneling by the survivors) or you use him as bait on the hook (called camping) in order to lure the high rank player away from his loops

  • @Dreamnomad said:
You don't deserve to play as a killer with that attitude. Who cares what rank they are? Who cares if they are on voice coms? Who cares if they have a flashlight or toolbox? Who cares if they wear bloody clothes? A real killer says BRING IT ON! When it's all said and done, you'll be hanging from meat hooks. That's the attitude killers should have in this game. But if you'd rather cry about rank then you should pick up a toolbox and sit next to a campfire.

He is a beginner killer, not a "real" killer that just happens to be at that rank

  • SWF has two reason why it could be called boosting.

Players can team up with lower ranks and boost each other by completely destroying low rank killers.

The game has been balanced around solo play, i.e. SWF naturally gives you an advantage due to voice comms

  • Sloppy butcher would be the most reliable.
If you like risk, take hex lullaby

  • @Radiant said:
Survivor "survived" pretty much to any nerf that was made in the last 2 years, even possibly becoming stronger due to the lack of "one stop solution" on how to win a match.

Killers, on the other hand, have seen a ton of new perks, reworks and buffs to "improve their gaming experience", that goes from oneshot to wallhacks, invisibility, automatic surv spotting, no terror radius, etc etc.

I am really ok with this, as long as the game keeps being played, the only problem here is that we are facing an Assassin Creed issue.
Assassin Creed is targeted for 10yo gamers, and is so ridiculously easy that no skill is needed to play the game: the game will tell you what to do in every step, where to go, what to press not allowing you to lose. Never.

Improving killers abilities over and over, and reducing survivors possibilities, has led to the opposite goal, weakening the overall level of the killers where they are easily getting fooled by basic mindgames, they can't spot survivors, as they heavily rely on offering and perks and are generally not scary as killers (with 1 exception every 10 matches).

A steeper training curve for the survivor on the other hand has led to an unbalance between the average skills of the two "factions" that devs will continuously try to fill with new skills and featuyres for killers, making the things worse.

I hope that this gets taken into consideration and everybody looks in the long-term instead of the immediate solution.
    Best,

The biggets issue the game has is that repairing gens actually only requires you to hold M1 and press M2 occasionally. If they would rework this part, everythign would change basically but that will never happen sadly

  • Leatherface needs a complete rework since devs are gonna punish camping now and guess what leatherface has been designed for

  • Rank 1 queues always have been kinda bad.
Make sure your lobby is not bugged

Has anyone been noticing a killer shortage on console (Specifically xbox one) when playing survivor? Especially in high ranks, I would queue up and be in queue for a good 10 minutes before I find a match and I'm in purple ranks. I've noticed the queue times get longer or shorter depending on the time of day.

The spirit hype and the BP event are over now.
on console the situation is even worse because killers have it a lot harder due to fps and controller aim, I wouldnt play killer on console either tbh.

Ofc you can switch to killer, btu then you have to go through this on your own, not sure whether you like that

At least don't inflict madness just bc you are in his terror radius. It should only be inflicted by an active shock treatment.

And yet he is one of the worse killers.

I recommend playing him yourself and ranking up a bit and you will realize why

That's how programming works in real life.

That's only partially true. If half the bugs that get through each of their patches made it into the live environments I work with I'd be fired. That's why we have test environments...to test our changes before they go live. BHVR strikes me very much as a company that does not put a lot of faith in QA, they're philosophy seems to be more "do it, throw it out into the wild, and we'll use that as our test environment". It's not very professional. Sadly it's also not uncommon in this industry, however.

I can't say it's just Behavior, though. It seems to be a lot in the gaming industry.

I just came from 2+ years in Overwatch. Blizzard has made over $2 billion on that game already, and that isn't counting the Season 1 Overwatch League profit (they reported that it made a profit). And Overwatch has a ######### ton of bugs, and new ones all the time. Some have been there for two years, like the many for poor Reinhardt. Doomfist released with bugs, and suffered through them for almost a year before they did a patch that finally fixed nearly two dozen of them in the list. Then there's still the issue of Moira's orbs bouncing randomly due to hitting invisible pixels. And many more throughout the game.

And let's not get started on the bugs for Battle of Azeroth over in WoW.

    And Blizzard is huge.

Compared to DBD, overwatch is the most polished, balanced game without any bugs
