  • I think the pointlessness is part of the appeal. It's like saying "I put a lot of effort into this bloodspatter, just because."

They said they dont want to remove perk tier because its a temporary solution. Exept if they remove perk tier they remove 66% of the grind that mean the solution they gonna put will reduce more then 66% of the grind. So when they finally decide to reduce the grind it should be a huge reduction even if they do it in 2 year

I'm not sure Patrick understands words. Cutting the grind by a third IN PERPETUITY would not be temporary, it would be a solution that would continue to function unless they reversed it.

Also, why did Peanits act all weird about reading Otzdarva's name? Is he new?

In the last few weeks i saw a increasing amount of survivors running into me at the start of the match and then kill themself on Hook and killers just afking in a corner of the map.

I saw a lot of new players playing against very experienced players, not because they're so good or not (only) because MMR sucks, but because a lot of good players purposefully derank to have easier matches.

I get that MMR isnt fun, but shouldn't the MMR system detect some of this behavior like complete afking as survivor/Killer and give them a DC penalty rather than giving them lower MMR, which is what they want?

In Rocket League for example you get kicked out of a match after afking for 15 seconds. Of course DBD Matches are longer than RL matches, so you could do it like this:

If no input was made within the first minute of the match, it gets canceled.

If no input was made for 60 seconds during the match, the player automatically DCs, get no MMR change and a DC Penalty.

If the game could tell when you're AFK, it would be able to track cheating (eg moving at 200% speed), which it can't, so that's why.

  • Killer mains spend more time in forums, we don't have chat or any chance at camaraderie in-game like survivors. Ours is a lonely road, and sometimes we want to talk to people who understand the journey.

Survivors chat before game, after game, most use comm during the game. A killer only gets to talk in after-chat and even then its only to hear crying and let survivors say racism, etc at us.

So to find a sympathetic ear, we flock to forums. Sure, some of us come here to vent, but many of us came to talk about the game. Survivors come here to vent, but they have plenty of outlets to talk about the game, so they're less interested in conversations that don't serve their immediate interest of venting.

Also, killer can't ever be more popular than survivor, the game requires a balance of around 80% survivor to function. 4 survivors + 1 Killer = a trial.

  • That makes sense, camping isn't against the rules, DCing IS.

  • i'm also learning Nurse, but my secret is to bring Starstruck, Mad Grit, Agitation and Lightbourn. I don't have any perks that would help at my current still level (a couple blink hits per trial, avg), So I just practice chasing using blink, controlling the blinks, etc, but I'm ready for troublemakers.

If you dedicate all your slots to dealing with aggressive survivors, you can get some kills. I've gotten around 10 4ks with Nurse, none of which required blink-hits. Most were just taking out a whole team while trying to get a hook.

WITH THE SLOWEST KILLER, BABY! Give it a whirl.

Edit: but I've gotten so many zero kills I can't count them. It takes a while.

  • After you use it just go hide in the corner for 30 seconds and they can pick their item back up. Then you can apologize and send them flowers, maybe they'll forgive you.

Honestly, if you're trying to make survivors pat you on the head, bring no perks or addons, they don't like any of them.

  • My complaint is "6000 shards to anyone who every played Leatherface."

So those of us that made effort back in the day accomplished exactly as much as anyone who loaded up a game once? I can't even get a little bonus for having them all?

######### end of the stick, as always.

  • @PlayTwink said:

Removing masks from Letherface isn't really a solution. The report system needs an improvent and also your team will need to hire more people for customer support and finally start banning people for racism/homophobia/death wishing/threaths etc. The current one is awfully functioning. Even with proof the perpetrators are still able to play a game.

The report system needs to function, that would be a huge improvement.

  • I feel like my advice is way better, so I'll share it.

The reason I only play Killer and always have fun is IDGAF. Instead of trying to play to please survivors, I play however I want. I don't feel bad when I lose, I don't feel bad when I win, I look at like I'm playing a game, because that's all it is.

I camp and tunnel based on multiple factors, some strategic and some just for fun. If survivors are less skilled than I am, I go easy on them, if they're better, I do my best to kill them all. I love tunneling entitled survivors, because it makes me mad that they think they're the boss of me.

When survivors cry, I pay no attention unless I'm in the mood to watch them humiliate themselves. I don't think crybabies should be playing this game, but I don't want them to quit because I like killing them most of all.

  • I apologize for the post I originally posted here. I misunderstood and jumped to conclusions.

Thanks to YourFriend for clarifying for me.

  • Hey Sluzzy, since you think this game is super easy for killers and impossible for survivors, why not play killer?

  • I respect Bills, they hate dying. If you don't watch them die, they won't die. I'm not just talking Undying, either. They fight til the end.

I wouldn't call it a soft spot though. I try to make them die faster so they can't save everyone else.

  • I dream of the day when I can get matched with you, Sluzzy. You're gonna DC so fast.

  • @[Deleted User] said:

Your emblems/ranks are not the same as your MMR.

You have no indication that you're at "high MMR". Nobody does. It's one of the major flaws of the system and it has made the community much worse overall IMO.

Maybe you don't. I can tell high MMR because gens pop really fast. If you've only got six minutes to do any killing, you can tell.

Like I said in the other thread: The devs (and what seems like the majority of the playerbase) are fine with proxy/soft camping, but facecamping has been specifically called out by design and development teams as something BHVR wants to discourage and remove.

    Link?

Here's the best I can find, taken from the Q&A Stream.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qtk7Q8f59N4

  • Haaave ya met my friend Tunneling?

When survivors are popping gens too fast, you have to kill faster or they'll escape. Killing efficiently means going after who's closest, going after who's less skilled, going after who's already wounded, going after those closest to death. This is how predators hunt.

Rotating who you hook is a nice thing when playing against survivors that don't play as well as you, but when you're playing against a team that wins easy, they will if you don't make it harder.

You get to a point as killer where skill alone doesn't win you games unless the survivors make mistakes. That's when you have to start using strategy.

  • @KingJaea said:

Ya lots of camping. And sweaty killers. At least at my MMR. I think some of it comes down to killers feeling they have to play that way/ Killers that just want to win and don't care if the game is fun for anyone else.

So how do you, as survivor, try to make the game more fun for killers? I mean, what's the rule you follow that hurts your game to make sure killers get at least a kill?

  • It's always seemed odd that killers have to glow, there are so many other ways to find us, that one really seems excessive. Makes it so a killer HAS to use a perk or addon to be sneaky. I mean, you hear the heartbeat getting louder, my noises, would it be so hard if you had to actively look around to see me? I play Pig and GF, survivors seem to spot me pretty easily just because I'm moving.

On the other hand, maybe it would. Without it, survivors might not ever be able to loop. They often run right into me despite the glow. I dunno.

But glowing? Seriously? Seems like a lot.

  • Once I see a team is setting up boons all over, I go from casual tunneling to actual tunneling. There's no time for nonsense.

  • No, but I'd definitely re-balance them since Boons are super-powered. They need to be fixable or maybe killers should be able to break bones. As is, an insult to injury.

As someone who has d/c'd right before being thrown on death hook, perhaps I can pull back the curtain just little bit and offer some insight into what might be going on behind the scenes.

    First and foremost,

People who disconnect do not care about (or are not motivated to play because of) bloodpoints.

That may seem like a no-brainer, but the most common question I see in response to this is always "why did you throw away your bloodpoints?"

    Second,

The player is looking for a reason to stop playing. Someone who disconnects right as they are about to be out of the match is probably tilted. They are fed up with the game, and are looking for an excuse to go do something else.

The matchmaking lock is a great opportunity for someone who is tilted to gather their emotions and refocus, or decide its time to move onto something more enjoyable.

In either case, they welcome the matchmaking penalty with open arms because its a respite from whatever rage-enducing scenario(s) led them to that moment.

Sometimes, it may also just be this person's last game of the day, and the disconnect penalty will not effect them in any way.

    Third,

Pride. Some people just don't want your pitty. They want to take defeat on the chin and will voluntarily create a lose condition if you're trying to display any form of empathy.

    Finally,

In the case of death hook specifically, a survivor may disconnect as a last form of vengeance to prevent the killer from activating BBQ, Pop, or Pain Resonance.

TL;DR unless the disconnect has inconvenienced you in any way, a survivor is probably not disconnecting to spite you.

Sure, but all those reasons are childish. I get the not wanting pity part, but that's still not a reason to be spiteful. If he didn't want pity, he shouldn't have given up. I pity people who are so emotionally weak they can't play five more seconds. Maybe they shouldn't play at all. I feel like acting like a baby is more pitiful than taking a hatch.

When I started playing I assumed survivors would be tough as nails, the type of people that VOLUNTEER to be chased by killers would be the types to accept any challenge, fight to the death, eager for a chance to outplay me or outsmart me. This didn't turn out to be accurate.

  • @FFirebrandd said:

The problem with Monstrous Shrine is that it encourages camping. That's why it's effects are so underwhelming. Camping is probably the least interactive way to play killer.

That's why I want Monstrous Shrine to get the following change or something like it.

Your fervent care of the Hooks has aroused The Entity's favor. Whenever a survivor is hooked in the basement, the entity blesses you with inhuman speed and strength.

Gain 20/25/30% increased speed to break actions.

    Gain 10/15/20% increased vault speed.

How about "Whenever a survivor is hooked in the basement, Sacrifice Progression speed is increased by x% for every y meters between the killer and the hook."

It would have to be fast enough to be worth it. If I go to the literal opposite edge, the person should be dying fast enough to force survivors to make a decision.

  • @WesCravenFan said:

    Lightborn.

I don't care what anyone says. There is something hilarious about watching a four man SWF lose their collective minds in the endgame chat because you "ruined" their game by taking away their precious flashlights.

I refused to allow myself to use lightborn for a long time, trying to never rely too much on perks, but dammit, when I have lightborn on I just feel invincible. Like "I'm the GD Killer, your choices are run or run."

It's worth a perk slot, to me.

  • If I hear a sound that sounds like a gen, I'll look around to find it.

  • A Killer can not seek the approval of survivors or he will cease to be a Killer.

You'll never get it, they'll train you to play badly and then insult you for doing so. Tribalism is a fun and unavoidable aspect of DBD, but the survivor community has made it a toxic part of the game, many of them only play in hopes of ruining it for others. Nearly all of them want to use peer-pressure to convince killers to go easy on them. Survivors are not your peers, Killers are.

Instead of asking yourself "why are they acting like this" ask yourself why you want people like that to be your friends. Instead you should be recognizing that this is a game where you get to kill people like that. It's fun as ######### if you play killer like a killer.

Hell, the reason I come to the forums is I like to read a bunch of hateful survivor posts to inspire me for a session of killing. Every time I read a "Killers shouldn't be allowed to use perks or strategies" post, my enthusiasm grows. Everytime I see "he's scum because he ______" I remember why I rarely place value on their opinions.

But let me tell ya, there are lots of survivors that are straight up AWESOME. I've been focusing on learning some new killers lately, and I've encountered so many that went out of their way to be cool about it. I'm not saying all survivors are toxic, I'm saying the survivor community has normalized it.

But most of all I'm saying: their opinion doesn't matter. There's a shortage of killers, why are you wasting time in afterchat? You should be jumping in another trial.

Seriously, before you give up, play correctly. Be the killer and play the way you want. That's what your actual peers expect of you.

  • @dugman said:

I actually suspect MMR is relatively accurate, the reasons for mismatches have to do with how matches are assembled and not the MMR itself. Some examples

    • If someone is a high MMR with fewer players close to their rating then they will tend to get timed out into “next available” slots with random people. Likewise if a game has a lobby with four people and one who left the lobby, it will tend to grab the next available person to fill the slot to keep those four players from waiting a long time. Essentially it’s a question of finding “best” matches versus “fast” matches, and sometimes it prioritizes making fast matches instead of making you wait even longer for close ones to come along.
    • High MMR survivors often play with lower MMR friends in swfs. So you can end up with apparent mismatches where the game is trying to find a killer in between the two extremes.

I think average players who play at peak times tend to get closer matches more often than players with very high MMR and who play at off hours. Note that prolific streamers and forum posters happen to be in both categories, they will tend to have very high MMR and being prolific streamers tend to play at unusual times, so they unfortunately also would bear the brunt of a lot more mismatches of the types above than someone who is kind of middle of the road and plays at prime time. That in turn drives them to complain to their viewers about MMR being broken, and here we are. 🤷‍♂️

There’s no actual statistics though indicating MMR itself is inaccurate. Individual ratings could easily be really accurate and the mismatches are from how long matchmaking waits for good matchups or how it calculates swfs with disparate ratings, etc. There’s no evidence the old emblem system was more accurate, and in fact because those reset every month it was definitely worse in part in the weeks after a reset since it became a wild west of people all jumbled into the same brackets.

I see what you're saying, mismatched trials are better than waiting forever for the perfect match. The system is working to keep queues down.

The problem with MMR is that kills/escapes are (from what I understand) all it looks at. An easy 4K doesn't make me a good killer, a 2k against a really good team does. The best survivor isn't always the ones that escape, often it's the opposite.

The emblems recognize different aspects of play, including kills and escapes. The best players are the ones that accomplish the most, all we're looking at are results. I didn't learn to play this game thinking "kills are all that matter" and I don't really want to.

  • Hey, maybe survivors should stop telling killers to uninstall or kill themselves. Maybe some are. Think about that while you wait.

    Eh.

    1. Yes, it's a very difficult priority to learn. The tutorial makes it seems essential.
    2. I find myself doing this sometimes. Gotta go Crazy Ivan to catch people.
    3. To be fair, even very experienced players fall for this sometimes.
    4. Yeah.

    I'd also add

    • Misses a lot of attacks.
    • Overcommits to unwinnable chases.
    • Camps (it sounds weird, but it's such an obviously effective tactic, and new players might not know that it goes counter to the etiquette of the game).
    • Gets 360'd a lot.
    • Always vaults or breaks the pallet.
    • Spends a lot of time waiting for 1 gen to regress.

Another problem with the tutorial, it has survivors unhook and then heal under the hook. That's the dumbest thing ever, I always check.

  • @BenihimeWrath said:

Others would arguably say it would encourage 3 genning and turtling, which not gonna lie it might. I would probably say it would be better to buff base regression so then a killer is more rewarded for occupying survivors and keeping them off gens.

Perhaps just make it so that regression is the same as ruin, and the only difference with ruin is that it does it automatically without needing to walk over and damage.

Oh no, it encourages a good strategy? Don't want that in our game. Might force some teamwork.

Talking about 3 genning, I don't know what "turtling" is. Sounds gross.

  • Might expand the question to "who are the strongest" because the strongest is always Nurse. Ungodly hard to play, a god in chase.

    Is this sarcasm?

Because no one wants to play a game where you lose 75% of the time.

    A 3k is definitely a win. I consider a 2k a tie, but a 3 is a clear win.

Also, classically one survivor usually escapes in a horror movie, that's what the term "final girl" refers to. So a 3K should feel like canon.

  • No, it's not supposed to discourage tunneling, it's supposed to give you a chance to get away if tunneled.

If the devs wanted to discourage tunneling, they could do so. They could also just stop it if they wanted. According to the rules, tunneling is specifically allowed. The goal of survivors is to ESCAPE, not to be allowed to exit. Sorry you need more second chances, I'm sure new perks that allow you to get away after you mess up are in the works.

Did you ever consider running away? Using evasive skills to lose the killer? What about not healing under the hook? If only there was a way to safely unhook a teammate. What if an unhooker took the chase? Have you considered strategy? You can hide or loop a killer, you don't have to just stand there with your finger on the E button.

Most survivors after being unhooked either heal right there under the hook, are hiding behind the nearest tree or went straight back to the gen you caught them on. Should I avoid all those areas because "no fair, tunneling!" Oh wait, I forgot the fourth category, hiding in a locker in hopes of using DS even though I wasn't tunneling.

I chase whoever's closest, sorry my Einstein-level strategy ruins your entire game. Maybe that says you should work on your game.

Bubba is such an odd killer. His kit feels almost completely designed around camping, and when you don't - it can be a misery on a lot of maps.

Pig is another killer that basically encourages you to be mean.

He is designed around camping. The best scene from TCM is Bubba's first appearance, when Bubba slams the door open and mayhem immediately ensues. That was insidious Bubba in action.

I don't personally use insidious, I don't use slowdown perks so standing still makes me crazy unless everyone else is in the area.

  • @StarLost said:

Then you get mass reported for non participation and risk a ban.

    LOL!

Oh wait, are you serious? Hackers don't even get banned from DBD.

  • Don't DC because of a clicker, camp or tunnel them. They want your attention, give it all to them until they die. More than half the time they'll DC or suicide on hook once they realize you're killing them, then you can go after the rest. Many DC when they're downed because they want to keep their flashlight. Respond like a killer, that's your job.

Also, there's no reason to read or reply to messages from survivor unless you like them and want to chat. Default should be you in another lobby while they rant at you. Why try to make friends with poor losers that act like children after losing a ten minute game? Friends like that don't reflect well on you as a person or a killer.

Not all survivors, some are really cool, but you're never going to stay a killer if you seek the approval of survivors. They don't want a challenge, they want you to hand them the game. Don't.

  • I said "only as killer" because I only play killer. It's not that I think survivor stopped being fun, I was never interested in playing survivor. So my answer could also fit in the "Yes" category.

But to back up my answer, all of you stress too much about every little thing. It's fun to chase people and hit them with things, it's that simple. It's fun to escape from the big bad, I assume.

There will always be players that are better than you. That's how games have to work if there's any competition whatsoever. Stop feeling like you have to "win", or do like I do and define most everything as a win. Everyone gets away but I get the second most in-game points? I beat the two that scored less. 3 get out but I kill the clicky #########? Hell yeah that's a win. It doesn't matter, just have fun and hit survivors with things.

Survivors, you're always going to run across killers that don't follow your rules. You often seem to let this interfere with your fun. I've had teams win against me, then rage in afterchat. If you win against a killer that plays effectively, that should make you happy. And I'll tell ya, the killers that camp and tunnel don't care if you get mad about it, so you're really just upsetting yourself. Have fun instead of looking for something to rage about.

tldr; lighten up and enjoy yourselves more.

  • I feel like the emblem system made more sense. The Entity says that a good killer gets good emblems, BP comes from the same scoring events. It wasn't perfect, but it represented play more than outcome.

But according to MMR, an easy 4K means I'm the best killer. I can get way more points losing a sweaty game, so it seems ass backwards.

  • "How do we fix this action that's specifically allowed in the game?"

  • The problem is, the rules specifically allow facecamping.

By what? Expressing that Camping is boring?

Newsflash. Most people think it is.

Most people are wrong. Camping INCORRECTLY is boring and a crappy strategy. Camping when it's a good strategy is the most fun a killer can ask for.

Clicky squad swarming you, trading places on the hook, getting slugged, crawling far enough away for a heal, healer gets slugged. Oh #########, Bill's unbreakable! Not smart enough to run away and heal up though, so he's down again. Getting to death hook for everyone now, did Steve just break off to finish gens or scout the hatch? Aw man, I killed two, but I'm way too far from a third hook to turn this into a snowball, Dammit Bill got away again! That sumbitch hates dying. Where the hell is Steve?

It's this simple: If you're camping and it's boring, stop, it's a bad plan. They're doing gens, you're boring and going to lose. Get back on patrol now.

But if they come running, camping is your business and business is fun as hell. The survivors might get mad, but they had an exciting match and they get mad no matter what.

And this idea that camping or tunneling just means an easy win in this game, that's only true at entry level. At higher MMR there are plenty of survivors that can handle camping/tunneling, even against Bubba. So I've heard.

  • I guess the same amount survivors should lose for doing things that are toxic but not against the rules. Zero.

    Because of the rules.

camping is basically going afk with extra steps.

tunneling can vaguely ve considered playing the game but on beginner mode.

Expecting the killer to make the game easier for you kinda sounds like beginner mode. I mean, kinda exactly.

  • @SleepyWillo said:

Camping and tunneling (unless at endgame) is basically refusing to play the game and ensuring someone else can't play either.

MMR can't be blamed because if you try it at high MMR you'd be gen rushed and barely scrape a single kill.

If a killer is so bad and skill less that they have to use a tactic that would only punish bad players I have little sympathy.

That said, this is a game. No matter what happens in a game there is no justification for irl threats/insults.

    Nope.

If you don't want to be camped or tunneled, run. Use your perks. Maybe even develop some skills to evade a killer. Lots of survivors do these things, it's still playing. There are lots of games where playing badly or making a poor decision can put you out. This is one of those games.

I never camp unless it's a good strategy, but when it is, I'm definitely playing. Sometimes it doesn't work and I have to drop that strategy. I never expect the survivors to help my strategies win, I expect them to try to thwart me. "You thwarted me, that's not playing," is something I've never said.

It's crazy to me that you actually expect the killer to help you get the maximum playtime. Maybe you should play a game where there's no killer?

  • You'd think DBD, especially the survivor role, would attract hardy players that want a punishing challenge. Instead it's the opposite.
