You literally just described the life cycle of most competitive online games.

I just play the way I want. When the developers make changes, I adapt. When the game is no longer fun for me, I move on.

    No game lasts forever.

    So time to move on?

I've played this game for a while as a survivor but i'm just now starting to get into killer... I've gotten some good perks from the shrine and I recently started playing plague a lot. I really can't decide between running corrupt or discordance and didn't know if you guys had any suggestions or preferences to that.

    I found CI too niche.

Discordance is a good tracking perk, and can help give you an edge. On its plus side it's non Hex, so can potentially work all game. Clutch in early game to find groups, but also end game when they want to risk working together to get the last gen. I think some people prefer Surveillance to Discordance, if they had a choice, for tracking.

  • @SweetTerror said:

If they're going based on how you play, then I can certainly guarantee I don't play on the same level as a rank 1!

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/745/3FDIMOE81BEU.jpg

I think that if a newer killer is in a lobby with high ranking survivor(s) that person should have access to perks he hasn't found in the bloodweb yet, for that one match. It would help level the playing field. The time cost of entry for newer people to grind out useful perks is prohibitive.

  • @SweetTerror said:

When this game works as intended, it can be a blast. But I just can't anymore with this matchmaking system. The B.S. that new players have to contend with is ridiculous. Here are two examples from tonight's games. It doesn't take much to realize why many new players like myself are writing this game off altogether.

So Otz set out to prove that NOED is overpowered and more importantly - unfair. As everyone who doesn’t play one side exclusively would tell you.

He decided to play like 90%+ of the EU servers, that being proxy camp, tunnel and NOED.

He was shocked to find that he won game after game after game after game after game. No effort, no skill required, just proxy camp to bait the unhook then tunnel mercilessly with NOED as back up. The survivors all had their “broken” perks, DS, BT etc but it wasn’t enough to escape. He was using Legion too who most people try to claim isn’t a viable killer.

Now you can try to put it on the survivors saying they should “rush gens etc” but you’ve likely got people who just want to unhook their friend so they can enjoy the game, or solos who just want to pip so they NEED the unhook as the game requires you to get it.

This isn’t a shock one bit. I’ve said it many times. Killer takes no skill. Camp, tunnel, NOED and you’ll do really well in most of your games with no effort required.

Now only at the very end did one team manage to escape. He played daft on purpose I think 2/3 made it out, would have been 2 but he purposefully let one go so that would have been a tie. It took a combination of DS and luck offerings for kobes to make it happen. Know why the last team did so well? Because they were a swf, one on the hook told the rest to just rush gens. So one took the sacrifice for the team. That means the gameplay consisted one one person queuing for 7 mins in the lobby just to sit on a hook for 2 mins and be out of the game with a depip. The others just had to hold M1 and hope the gens were done before their friend died. Killer mains in their effort to try and justify winning at any cost say this is fine but we all know its just garbage. Nobody wants to play like that because it’s not fun nor exciting.

I don’t expect anyone here to agree. Forum is mostly full of the most biased killer mains who try to justify anything so long as it favours their side. Otz explains perfectly why NOED is cheap and needs a change. Anyone but the most biased players can see it.

So I guess this is for the dev team. The question is are you willing to be brave enough to shake up the game? Or will fear or change leave it in the state that its in. Killers want more time, survivors want less tunneling. The nature of the game should change based on that.

In b4 “legit strategy” “balanced perk”

There only reason NOED and Mori are more prevalent it's because of the Ruin nerf. That freed up a perk spot for many players, and is now being used for NOED instead. The Mori helps to slow down gen progression.

Were you one of the people mocking killer mains who complained about the nerf? If so then enjoy the fruit of what you helped sow. You can't say you weren't warned.

There hasn't been a time in the history of DBD where killer has been easier, I'm sorry but these players who have devoted their entire DBD time into Killer and still can't compete at any level should just move on, they've never been good and never will.

I'm often regarded as a "survivor main" but I played two and a half hours of killer at rank 5 (I haven't played dbd since the reset) and not a single game of mine was below a 3K, I'm sorry but this game is only going to be easier come the next patch and anyone who is still complaining about dbd will simply never be good at it.

Generally I agree with your points. It is possible to become an effective killer, regardless of the various nerfs, buffs and redesigns going on.

Back when I still played this game I found that having better situational awareness and picking out subtle details helped me more as killer than just strong character mechanics and perks. Understanding how others try and evade and outthinking them would result in good kill rates and blood points.

I wasn't around for the beginning of DBD when it was very hard for killers but I'll take it as fact that it was not easy for them back then.

What has changed in more recent months is how effective SWF strategies and meta perks have become. It seems like some survivor mains have it down to a science, where as newer killers will have a harder time closing the gap. And as survivor game strategy becomes stronger the gap widens.

A solution might come down to better matchmaking, but the trade off might be unacceptable lobby wait times.

  • @PapiQuentin_ said:

I can't stress enough how easy it is to ruin a survivor's game by remembering their name and then playing extremely toxic the next time you play against them. The survivor can't even check who they're playing against so why is it fair the killer can see them?

And another thread goes in the opposite direction, asking for more lobby information - to show who's SWFs. Contradictory requests.

  • @Adriang14 said:

They’ll never be able to buff solo to swf if they don’t add voice chat. Even then if they don’t, many suggestions have been made to improve solo , but the devs don’t implement it because it would be too much information. Literally what do they think swf is?? Just because some don’t use comms they’re gonna dismiss solos even though a majority of swf use comms. When they dismiss solos because of their own interpretation of things they’re also dismissing killers because you can’t buff killers with it not affecting solos. Like what’s so hard to understand about this. Why are you guys too scared to move forward with some changes that’ll help the game health overall?

    Another passive aggressive thread title...

  • It looks like all three of your team mates got hooked a different points, one of them died, and you never attempted to unhook anyone. After playing thousands of hours are you surprised no one bothered to unhook you? What did your behavior look like from their point of view?

I'm not saying that developers should turn off the ban system for those who have internet problems. I wanted to convey that people should not be kicked out of the match at the slightest loss of connection. I repeat: in other online games I am not thrown out of matches because of the same issue. I have a problem with crashes only in Dead By Daylight.

I get what you mean. Other game makers are able to find solutions around marginal internet problems. What I'm guessing is that in this case they don't have the ability to figure out how to improve the experience for players such as yourself. It might mean a bigger overhaul than we'd imagine, and focus seems to be on content and balancing instead.

Hope you have some other games in your library.

Oh how the mighty toolbox has fallen. I realize that toolboxes had to be nerfed due to having the ability to do 2-3 gens with the right addons but now getting toolboxes in chests and being forced to buy toolboxes and nearly useless toolbox addons in the bloodweb in order to get to the next bloodweb is just depressing. I honestly think the way they are now they might as well just be removed and replaced with a different item entirely. Curious to see what everyone else thinks.

The change to the toolboxes followed the Ruin nerf, perhaps to balance out the early game. To think that this mess could have been avoided in the first place if Ruin was left alone.

Now, I was THE ONE survivor in solo Q Team who was really careful with pallets. I threw down average 2 pallets per game. Why? Because I HAD TO be very efficient with them. My mates are usually straight up trash and burn down 5 pallets in under 1 minute, otherwise they die instantly.

Now, with only 7 pallets per map... Yeah gg devs, rip solo Q. Game is dead for me. I was already burned out. But I'm not even considering to come back anymore after these PTB reports of the community. U messed up.

With team mates like that, you never tried to rank up instead? That way you get paired with smarter players.

  • @xEa said:

I am on the PTB right now, and all i can say is: Is this a little late april fools joke?? It has to be, right?

First game i play: Gas Heaven

There is 1 (ONE) single pallet on the whole middle of the map! One!

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/230/4H3MVCDIRVWD.jpg

The rest of it is a deadzone with absolutly nothing but here and there some trash!

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/101/KAWZ4X5O95AK.jpg

    1 Pallet in the garage

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/235/17S8ZEX379VI.jpg

1 more pallet between killershack and deadzone

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/673/KZ4WVS1QIRA6.jpg

4 Jungle Gyms with 1 pallet each

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/384/6O5O0ZJKTNHG.jpg

    And the Killer shack pallet.

8 pallets on the whole map. Are we good? I mean, ARE WE GOOD? I honestly have to ask without sarkasm. Have you forgot to add the pallets in those silly big deadzones and the silly big middle of the map (2 gens by the way... 1 pallet... )

This is even worse then i have expected, and i thought it will be aweful.

    2Nd Game: Gas Heaven again

This time i count 7 pallets! And most of them are even weaker then before.

    3rd Game: Thompson House

I am already really frustrated, so i stopped counting pallets but it looks like more or less the same ammount. All i can say at this point is that the map looks really really aweful, even worse then the old thompson house. It feels squeezed, not well designed at all.

I might try out a few more games after a break, but if this goes on like Thompson and Gas Heaven.. ahhm well... good luck with your next game devs. At least you know how you killed it.

Here's a solution to the map and pallet, Ruin should be nerfed. Oh wait....

  • @TheSpartan said:

What happened to all the pallets on some of the maps? In the PTB their is barely any at all ive only seen at max 5 on the corn maps and on azarovs maybe like 6. Is it just me or?

  • @Hopesfall said:

This game has gotten really stale for killers at red ranks post ruin nerf.. roll your eyes all you want, it's truth. If I want to try interesting builds that deviate from the 6-7 "meta" perks for killers, gens fly and it's generally a miserable experience. You will of course have some wins, but more often than not, Brutal Killer/Displeased is your result.

Survivors can run meme or thematic builds all day long because they have 3 other people to carry them. If i want to run an all hex build, stealth, or perma injure build.. it might work a quarter of the time. Injured people at high ranks just split up and sit on gens so it doesn't really matter.. plus they get dead hard constantly.

I realize X killer may have Y build that works for them, that only proves that you're being pigeonholed. "If you want to use this killer, here are the perks that actually work".

I am essentially locked into using the same build for every killer unless I want 3 chases and the game to be over in 5 mins. Boring.

    BBQ / Corrupt / Pop / Discordance /// Nurses / Monitor

"THEN JUST SLUG" - no thanks that's not fun

"DONT WORRY ABOUT RANK" -- maybe I don't like seeing "Entity Displeased" every game when I try experimenting

"PLAY ANOTHER GAME THEN" - i have been thanks

Sure would be nice to be able to run interesting builds without being absolutely punished by the game.

The game doesn't revolve around "red ranks". It's been too much of an obsession around here for as long as I can remember.

    Hello guys

I think Doctor is in a good state right now, pretty strong killer but not unfair.. still one thing really needs to be changed:

    "Discipline" Carter Notes

    • Considerably decreases the Shock Detonation Delay of Shock Therapy.

This addon is simply broken because it completly denies looping or actually even predroping a pallet. If you are not at a god pallet it is a free hit/kill, just because of this addon alone.

I have to try out "Discipline" Class 3 more often tho so i can judge for this one too, but again, Discipline Carters Notes really needs some changes.

    Kind regards

Do you mean OP instead of "broken"?

  • @Kwikwitted said:

    Because survivors screwed it up.

I usually sit somewhere between Rank 2 with 2-3 pips and Rank 1. If I'm looking to play for points, pips, or just generally to ruin someone's day it's Freddy or Hillbilly. I then sprinkle that in with games of Trapper, Wraith, Legion, and now Deathslinger as I'm trying him out since I put a metric ton of points into him.

So sitting at Rank 1 and with nothing really to play for I strap a survivor pudding onto Deathslinger with some Grey addons and queue on up hoping for at least some good BP on this 1.5X bloodhunt.

I have pretty mediocre perks on him at the moment, forcing me to run a Ruin/Surveillance build along with BBQ and Chili along with STFBL. No luck with Pop Goes the Weasel, Monitor and Abuse, or Nurse's Calling but it's all good. Queue up and get Azarov's Resting Place, which I know everyone thinks this map is killer sided but I personally hate this map. Survivors know the layout just as much as I do so they immediately set out to get a generator popped on either side.

I play pretty poorly, missing a lot of shots, trying to figure out how to approach loops with his power, typical stuff, but I'm clearly experimenting. Game ends pretty quickly, all good, I assume I'll get a gg or two and that should be it since survivors got to escape. Makes sense right?

    Nope. Not even close.

IMMEDIATELY getting berated for being "terrible baby killer", "tunneler and camper (even though I literally hooked two people and was nowhere near either of them when they got unhooked)", oh and my favorite "must have been carried to Rank 1". Now how you can be carried as killer I have yet to learn but if anyone can figure that one out, let me know.

What was the benefit to berating a killer you beat and got points from? The game is over, you will in all likelihood never play this player again, and if you do, how do you know he doesn't have a "list" and is going to tunnel you mercilessly if he runs into you on a killer he dominates with?

It reminds me of the concept of "tilt" in poker, sometimes tilting a player can be profitable, but with a casual or recreational player it's better to be nice to them, make them have a good time while they lose their money, you want them to come back and lose more. Humiliating or berating a guy you beat often leads to two outcomes, either one, that player quits and now there's less players to play against, or two that player decides to stick it in your gut every single time he ever possibly can.

So I spent five matches playing Freddy, and I mean dirty "Forever Freddy" style. Red Paint Brush and Swing Chains. Oh and I won't even sugarcoat it, I played like a scumbag, Playing around the hook, slugging guys off the hook then chasing down the unhooking player (still avoiding DS of course), proxy-camping around generators and a hooked player, all the dirty, dirty things that I only pull out when people really piss me the hell off.

At least 20 survivors got their games destroyed because four a-holes wanted to dick measure on a killer that they had just beaten.

So survivor mains and survivor players, if you are curious why some killers are just try hard all the time, decimate you even with a DC, slug for the 4k, don't let the last guy go etc. Chances are it's because somewhere along the line one of your survivor brethren screwed that up for everybody.

Okay rant over, thanks for reading, and yes I'm aware that there is some killers who can be douches too.

I would have avoided the whole thing by never opening up the after game chat. What's the point? Do you rank up b by reading their garbage? Do you get more bloodpoints? No. Just play your way and avoid talking to people in DBD.

  • @Almo said:

Multiple game modes necessarily impacts queue time.

A solution would be an in-lobby mini game for survivors to play while they wait several minutes for a match to start.

  • @Cardgrey said:

Dcing in general should be avoided. When I ready up I accept Moris, keys, tunneling, flashlight blinding, camping, genrushing, saboing, one hits, and slugging and great addons are a part of this game. If you can’t accept that why play? I heard civ 5 was more relaxing

"I heard civ 5 was more relaxing"

    Don't believe what your hear.

  • @DeathBeam said:

Since the use of dedicated servers, the camera flicks around when you teleport which ruins it for me.

On the new Otz vid he says the way around that is to point the hag towards the Phantasm site you want to teleport to first before hitting the button to go, giving you better control.

Players don't like to use the Hag because they think they need to use her to chase survivors, and she is slow. The more effective way is to dedicate setting traps outside of chases, then getting hits off of teleports. I think in this case it's true that casual players don't "get" how to use this killer effectively.

It could also be that many didn't realize about her under the reader buff some time ago that really speed up her trap placement speed, which allowed these to be placed during chases to cut down loops. It was a simple yet very effective change that made her viable.

As the title suggests, I’d like to hear what is the most annoying killer and survivor(s) to face for you guys. You load into a trial as a solo survivor and you see that killer you despise and grunt and prepare for the inevitable steamroll.. or being killer, and loading into a lobby of 4 Claudette’s..

For me, I’ll say Trapper is the most annoying killer for me. I have the worst RNG vs trapper because every single time I face him, he always gets the most grassiest map or the one map with a really strong building that he always has a trap at. It’s really annoying for me to watch out for traps and being constantly paranoid about stepping into one gets boring after a while, IMHO.

The most annoying survivor I hate facing has to be Nancy. Every single Nancy I’ve ran into lately always has the best perks and instant heals/flashlights etc. Most of the Nancy’s I’ve ran into also knows how to loop extremely well, and compared to having the meta perks and crutch items, it can be soul crushing for killers.

What are your guys’ most frustrating and annoying killer/survivor to face?

How do killer mains ever expect to pip up. If they camp the one survivor they hook before endgame? I get out up against rank 8 or higher killer players and they just watch over you. And to top it all off you always gotta run that Noed to ensure nobidy will even risk the save...the meta is broken asf

I stopped using DBD since the new year but if I was still killer maining in this new era of the game where ruin doesn't do what it used to I'd try out face camping early game myself, to reduce the threat by going against three players instead of four.

Someone can hook up to 12 times before they "win", by which time the gens would likely be done. Face camping is a tactic, then.

In my case I never cared about pipping, and was usually happy with maximizing points, so if go for the multiple hooks. Ruin allowed the match to last long enough to do that. If I chose to go for the 4k instead I didn't care how my gameplay would affect my rank.

All 5 gens done in 3 minutes and 53 seconds, this is unacceptable. If you watch the video you can see that we all split up on gens and got 3 done in the first few minutes of the match.

This video shows how a new player who chooses the killer role will be turned off by the game, and lead to a decline in popularity and lack of killers to go against for survivor mains.

I'm starting to think the player base is slowly killing DBD and not the game developers anymore. Pat yourselves on the back.

  • @StutteringSpartan said:

I took a break from this game simply because i wasn't enjoying it anymore. I kept watching streamers play DBD but that was it.

Came back a few months later with a clearer mind....

Ruin was nerfed, Doctor was buffed etc etc... Prior to these nerfs i used to run Ruin, BBQ, Pop, Dying Light.

Coming back to the game I knew my playstyle had to change... I knew chase times had to get cut down a lot! So I started paying more attention to loops, depending on the loop I either leave the survivor, or break the pallet, it's all circumstantial. Pressure Gens should always be a priority! It's surviviors priority so why spend longer chasing than you do pressuring?!? That's where survivors are at their weakest!

Nobody can teach you when to leave a chase or commit, it's something you need to learn.

Dying Light you effectivley ignore the obession unless you're running Nemesis.

Ruin got cleansed quickly which effectivly meant i was running with 3 perks after 2 minutes. (2 perks if the obession sucides, DC's etc).

Running either of these perks you're already restricting your power greatly.

So I started playing around with perks....

Always BBQ because of bloodpoints! Infectious Fright, Surge, Surveillance, Nurses, I'm All Ears, Iron Madien, Mad Grit, M&A, Pop

Focus Less on perks that have time limitation slow downs they hinder more than they help... 4 perks are always stronger than 3.

I'm no god killer, and still lose matches just like the next person. YOU'RE NOT MEANT TO 4K EVERY MATCH!

If you still lose consistently you're need to get better it's that simple.

I tested this out on multiple killers Hag, Plague, Freddy, Spirt, Demo, Billy, Doctor, Oni, Myers Ghost Face

With Match Making the way it is ranks were mixed results Red, Purple, Green, Yellow, I won and loss against all ranks and all map types. More wins than losses though i can guarantee you that

Try it yourself 4 active perks that don't time out within the first 4 minutes of the game.

If you're still struggling consistently you're probably over commiting on chases. Or chasing a clicky clicky which is bait..

So...play sweaty and stressed all the time?

Because if the hook didn't count as a deep wound this killer could practically instana down every one. The game would go to quick. Personally i would LOVE if that wasn't the case, but it's for balancing purposes. I've noticed any killer abilities that can instana down has a two step process.

I get what you mean but it wouldn't word it precisely an instadown. What I think you are voicing concern on is that the harpoon hit would first injure the survivor, and then all the gunslinger would have to do to get the dying state is reel the surv in for an easy second hit.

It's not an instadown in the sense of one hit one down, but without the deep would effect the killer would get the "second hit" way too easily.

Its no secret that Deathslinger gameplay is exact the same as any other FPS Shooter.

However, actual FPS-Shooters, have an adapted hitbox; Which in DBD they are absolutely different.

For any newbie to FPS, this may not seem like a problem, but in DBD, most shots look wonky, buggy, for both sides.

I have now over 50 games as Deathslinger and I do not think he is weak, but he is nowhere near the "Top 5", which for a killer which absolutely requires a high skillcap (not only because you have to aim, but because you have to work around DBD hitboxes, which for a veteran FPS-Shooter player, I think that's a bad joke).

Can we do something about it? Perhaps add a little "vacuum" to his really small hitbox, to compensate for DBD UNADAPTED hitboxes for a shooting character?

    Discuss.

Also, keep to the post, read what the topic is about and stick to it. =)

Maybe hotboxes should be turned on and made visible?

I stopped playing since the nurse rework. I came back before deathslinger came out. Im rank 18 now and im still getting red ranks. It feels like i never deranked.

Ill check back in another 6 months and see if things improve.

Six months? Don't hold your breath. I've given up on this since the new year and I don't expect overall net positive change - for my perspective - for a year at best, probably never.

Not that it'll happen but it's rather see a new DBD2 come out instead, something designed properly from scratch, instead of hoping that a flawed base game can be balanced. The part few updates have not moved the needle.

Yo guys, I've been playing Friday 13th a bit recently and I've noticed how fun it is to talk to players through the in-game voice proximity feature. I was wondering how effective this could be on DBD as the killer would be able to hear survivors discussing whatever it is they're doing which could be a little bonus for the Stealth killers, or if they want to hurl insults at eachother for the fun of it. I think it would also be helpful for players who like to Solo Que as it makes it possible to communicate with your team without any 3rd party apps. I want to know what everyone thinks of this if it were to be a feature on DBD. Personally I would want this but there's probably some things I have overlooked which could make this a bad idea.

Worst idea ever, sorry. Too toxic.

I mean, why don't perks like Borrowed Time have a cooldown?

Or why don't survivors have stains too for that matter?

It's getting really tiring at this point. Everywhere I go on this forum I see crap like this:

Someone has an idea? "The devs won't do this because they only care about 💲💰🤑"

Someone reports or asks about a bug? "This probably won't get fixed until half a year later because bhvr is [insert role] biased 🤡🤡"

Any balance change (or even a bugfix) is made? "See? They only cater to entitled [insert role] mains ☺️☺️"

Like, holy hell. I get that y'all are frustrated about the balance and how changes are made very slowly but have you ever considered that making a working 1vs4 game is VERY HARD and it will never be perfect? Not to mention that Behaviour is not a gigantic AAA game company.

Changes will come to both sides in time. The devs aren't ignoring either of them. Stop making every single thing into an "us vs them". Feel free to tell your opinions and criticism to the devs but stop assuming they only care about one side. If that was the fact, the game would be dead already.

What does "y'all" mean, for those of us who speak regular English?

Playing killer is nothing more than a frustrating and terrible experience. Ever since the death of ruin, the amount of time actually spent in the game has gravely decreased. Generators get done at blinding speeds and there's nothing you can do about it if you're playing against optimal survivors (I.E they know what they're doing).

An average game in red ranks consists of:

-A generator being done before I can even get to it or apply pressure.

-One chase taking 2-3 minutes because the survivor is running around a broken or OP structure that apparently still has yet to be fixed (wretched shop, god windows, etc). By the time I down them, another 2-3 generators are done.

-With 1-2 generators left, I chase another survivor, go through the same experience and hook them. Now the doors are powered and the game is pretty much over.

-God forbid I decide to tunnel, camp, or slug the survivors because this ''ruins the experience'' for them. And even if I do this, survivors have a handful of perks to give them second chances at every moment of the game.

-Even if I play by the survivor rule book, I get flashlight clicked and tea bagged to high heaven because how dare I even play the game right?

Whatever, think I'll start playing survivor now for the rest of the game's lifespan until killer is fixed, seems like the fun role.

According to the community manager's suggestion, the thing to do it to try and lock down a three gen strat if that starts to happen.
