Oh yeah, for sure. Tbh I don't have -any- builds on any of my killers. I only have one killer with teachables because I never used to put bloodpoints into killers, so I just play everyone with their default perks for the most part & I only have like 3 killers with more than two perks. RIP I guess.

Quick tip, if you’re in PC and if you wanna try to gain back some advantage, Watch for the globe symbol that means people are from console... they are generally at least a little worse than players of the same rank on PC.

Not always, but I’ve faced some cross play rank 3s that almost played like a rank 15. If you get all PC players then dodge lobby... I hate suggesting that ever but maybe because the system is so bad do what you need to do.

Ughhhh all of that really kind of sucks, honestly. I just want to have like, you know, fair matches, where I'm not playing against people who have 2000 hours on survivor & know all of the loops and exploits by heart. I used to be a red rank killer and I stopped playing for over a year for a reason--because those matches suck all of the fun out of the game.

I hear ya, the bad thing is the new MMR while it was in effect for a couple days was arguably even worse!!!

But yeah sweaty high stress red rank games aren’t “enjoyable.” I can do well in those games if I play top killers, or even mid tier killers with strong perk/addon setups... but I wanna play FUN builds.

I started screwing around with Mad grit, iron grasp, agitation and hangman’s trick but the only killer it even remotely worked on was Hag because she’s so strong her perks almost don’t matter. Playing as clown, trapper, wraith and Demo with that build was just frustrating

  • @mintchapstick said:

Lol, I came here to ask about the same thing. I haven't played in over a year and I came back to the game a couple of days ago and this is my experience in every. single. match:

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/HA9Z15VDVA0P/why.png

Why the hell am I being matched against red rank players in every match at level 12? I just want to learn new killers (I'm new to the huntress) but every match is against red ranks?? I had two rank one players against me in the same match earlier?? Shouldn't crossplay have fixed this because of the wider pool of players?

First thing, and this is just me guessing, there are wayyy wayyy more red survivors than red killers so some of the red survivors will have to be paired against lower killers. Now 4 to 12 is a big gap but it’s only slightly bigger than their range of 6 so this is kind of “acceptable,” by BHVR guidelines. Not mine, but by the devs.

Second, their weird triangle of matchmaking puts quick time and good ping ahead of proper ranks. Basically they have stated that getting an unfair game in 1 minute Is better than waiting 5 minutes to play against people of equal skill.

  • @Kilmeran said:

Might have been an SWF. There was a change a while back where it is supposed match the killer based on the highest SWF rank, but that bugged out (also) months ago and stopped doing that. So, it probably matched you based on their lowest member, yet again.

Bugged out? Or they changed it back and didn’t tell us?

  • The gen aura perk could be okay for newer players or in indoor Maps, I’d rather have detective though

The killer doesn't owe you an escape just because your team DC'd. MORI or otherwise.

Why is the killer a scumbag? With 3 DCs his only change for decent points and to try preventing depipping is at least hooking someone. Tell me why the killer doesn’t deserve a chance to get points and a kill but the survivor deserves an escape?

It amazes me that people still blame the killer in this situation instead of their three teammates

  • @jisp3r said:

Unranked mode would make everybody happy but they don't want everybody happy

Unranked and ranked would split the playerbase, that would result in longer queues and would NOT make everyone happy.

Also is there any benefit to ranked? Otherwise sweaty players will just play casual if they get all the same stuff.

  • @dugman said:

I’m positive that if the devs can patch the exploit hackers were using to trick the game into banning other players that they will bring back the currently deactivated DC bans. Nobody enjoys playing with ragequitters.

This, I just don’t think it’s a top priority sadly. As survivor I’ve just accepted that basically every game will be 3 vs 1 because someone quits if they get found first...

As killer I won’t bring good addons because it’s a waste when the survivors DC. And I’m not talking about Iri hatchets or anything, I just don’t feel like wasting my purple extra trap or extra bottle addons.

  • @SweetTerror said:

I stopped playing killer for awhile because I was getting matched with survivors that were far more experienced than me. Then when the new MMR came along it was a breath of fresh air, as my matches were no longer try hard, sweaty matches (but even I'll admit that sometimes I was still getting matched with people that I shouldn't have). But now that the MMR is turned off, the game is once again back to setting up matches based on ranks, which sucks because even the devs themselves admitted that ranks mean nothing.

So why am I not surprised that my rank 15 killer is going up against red and purple rank survivors? Which is even more baffling considering that cross-play is up and running. You mean to tell me that red and purple ranks were the best you could find for a rank 15 killer across PS4, switch, Xbox, and PC? 🤨

Here's hoping the MMR gets turned back on soon.🤞

The good thing is if you get paired against red console players, as a general rule, they are pretty potato. I mean honestly even half of Pc red ranks are pretty bad.

Survivor rank means so little because it’s easier to pip up it’s just a matter of time invested. Even the devs admit this.

Right, because not having an art team will make the game better. 🙄

No one said NO art team, but taking part of that budget and moving it towards programming would be a start. If there are 5 people on each team change it to 7-3 for example.

    “Just play injured.”

To clarify: this is often very good advice. There are times when it’s okay to play injured, and people should become more comfortable with the idea of being injured instead of panicking. There are perks that can help and speed is often of the essence, sometimes healing can wait. That said, if everyone on the team is injured and the killer is patrolling the hook, slugging or otherwise pressuring, for the love of god stop trading and HEAL.

I’ve had so many matches as survivor thrown because people were too impatient to spend 16 seconds healing one guy and letting them go for the rescue. I’ve had killer matches where the survivors stubbornly refused to heal and I snowballed from there. Sometimes you have to heal to slow a killer’s momentum. Especially if they have Infectious.

    @RakimSockem said:

Definitely have to second the whole "just play injured thing" being terrible advice

If you're playing against a stealth killer, you're pretty much making yourself an easy down by not healing. The only exception is if you bring Iron Will and Spine Chill to know when they're coming but then that's 2 whole perk slots you have to dedicate to your "just play injured" playstyle

Even if it's not a stealth killer though, you have to be an amazing looper to only play with one hit in a chase which is not a skill everyone has.

Sorry if I am double replying but I wanted to touch on this again, playing injured for A LOT of people is a bad idea. Getting healed takes about 16 seconds, and being able to take two hits instead of one before you go down should extend your chase by longer than 16 seconds just by using the speed burst from getting hit and holding W straight ahead. Then if you manage to make a loop it's way better time wise. I can't stand when my team refuses a heal and stays injured then I see all 3 go down in about 15 seconds... sigh

    'Do bones'.

It is often much better to rush gens instead of cleansing totems, especially when solo queuing.

Because 1) There is no totem counter. You could cleanse 4 totems and spend ages looking for the 5th totem only for it to have already been cleansed.

    2) You could waste a bunch of time that you can't afford to waste. It's already hard enough getting all the gens done in solo queue.

    3) The killer might not even have NOED.

    4) If the killer does have NOED it is faster to find it when it is activated.

If you're playing against a good killer, you just HAVE to prioritise gens. Cleansing totems isn't going to activate the exit gates. 5 Gens will. E.g it is MUCH better to rush gens against a forever Freddy, instead of wasting valuable time.

The only time 'do bones' may be applicable is if you're in a 4 man SWF (so you know how many totems have been cleansed) or if you've got a map and know for sure that all the totems have been cleansed. In both situations the killer needs to be bad enough so that you know you have time to cleanse all totems and finish all gens and escape. Otherwise rush gens.

Yep, even with a map or Detective I don’t go out of my way to get dulls. I’ll just start once the last gen is powered and hope NOED is close to me or at least away from the doors.

99 the gates. I understand the rationale behind it, but really how often is blood warden really used? And as far as end game saves, there typically is still plenty of time to trade a couple of hooks here and there.

I'd say I've probably been killed more injured running toward a 99'd gate then by running out of time from someone opening the gates too soon.

And blood warden is at least one of the few fun "oh #########" moments in the game.

This is the perfect example that someone sees used in a specific situation then immediately does every game. You can even see games where 2 survuvors 99 one gate and wait while 2 others 99 the other gate and leads to someone getting caught.

    "Don't use self-care"

When used properly it can be backbreaking for some killers. It gets a bad rep because it's a learning perk, but so many people get hit, then run across the map until they can't hear the heartbeat, run a few more miles, grab some water, run a marathon, find the corner of the map, and start self-caring when they're affected by sloppy butcher.

Thats why I hate when people call self care a bad perk, or say only bad players use it. A good example it helped is when a killer had my only living teammate hooked and I was able to self care far away and then go for the save. Had it not been for SC I would have just had to open the gate and leave.

I don't get the spirit hate when a good spirit and nurse are the only 2 that can handle a swf death squad because of their control of chases. If nurse and spirit got touched then there would be no answer to a 4 man sweatsquad.

Because you can’t run her around a loop three times before dropping a pallet, running to the next loop while killer breaks it, rinse repeat...

That formula is what a lot of survivors call “good looping,” and it wastes enough time to be true. That’s why spirit, nurse and sometimes Freddy/slinger/pyramid are called unfun or boring. They’re hoping for a nerf to anyone that ignores the normal looping routine.

  • @Milanceee said:

Only spirit benefits of stridor so why nerf it?

  • @bm33 said:

I usually cleanse the totems in that area as I make my way to the other gens. Most times I see the killer checking the blocked gens first thing to see if anyone is by them rather than wait for survivors to head to the unblocked gens.

I’ll check for totems and chests if I don’t have an item, then I look for a gen to do. I’ve seen teammates just sitting lately though you’re right stealth is all over but I wonder if it’s more prevalent in console

True, but in alot of maps (like this one) even things like heartbeats dont make it obvious. If you were to go to "The Game" for example which is 64 meters by 64 meters, you're going to be hearing the heartbeat of the killer more often than not for the entirty of the game, EXPECIALLY if the killer is using perks that can enlarge it. You think the killer is camping but nah, its someone with monitor chasing your teammate and they just happen to have a 40 meter TR atm.

While I DO understand that people should crank out gens when someone is OBVIOUSLY camping...my point here is that this is a poor example of that and you cant expect these guys to really know what the killer is doing in this example...not YET anyway.

Even in your example though on The Game, context clues are more than enough to tell experienced players whether a killer is camping. TR, knowing the map layout vs killer proximity before you unhook, paying attention to the HUD, etc. Sure, if players aren't that experienced, I can give them the benefit of the doubt. Red rank players should be experienced enough to know how to deal with it though.

Even in the worst case scenario you may be able to forgive the first person if Bubba insidious camps basement. But I actually had a teammate get hooked, watched someone unhook and then both go down, and STILL saw my last teammate going for the save... how is it not clear by then

Umm, hatch is already killer sided, so there is only a small chance to even get it. And slugging so you cheat the survivor out of even a chance is lame and cheap. Just race them to the hatch. That is the fair and intended way to play.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1527289#Comment_1527289

If you have to slug to 4k you didn't play well and don't "deserve" the 4k. Actually downing hooking and killing people earns you the 4k. Just get good and you won't have to resort to cheap tactics.

See my question above. If I hook every 3 times exactly the last person who had been hooked twice and is siitting on the hatch as his teammate dies what did I do wrong as the killer?

  • @alaenyia said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1530566#Comment_1530566

It is absolutely slugging and one of the crappiest kinds. Maybe just get better and you wouldn't have to resort to lazy game play like slugging.

I’m sorry, when you hook the 3rd and the last survivor immediately hops into hatch how should the killer “get better,” in that situation?

  • @Customapple0 said:

Probably because DS is fine? Not all players “abuse” it you know.

Some of us just want some breathing room against tunnelling.

I agree, as survivor I bring it because a lot of killers really do tunnel straight off hook. That being said I would have ZERO problem if it deactivated when I started to work on a gen. If I’m doing anything other than being healed or running then im not being tunneled. Also the locker play is BS.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/180592/still-no-camping-counterplay

Camping is a strategy. It isn't a good or fun strat, but it does exist. He won because you made a very foolish mistake. If you had simply left your teammate and taken the win, he would de-pipped and it would have shown him that camping is not a viable strategy. However, since you and your team went in after your teammate, he likely pipped and believes that camping IS a good strategy.

It is unfortunate, but the best thing to do is let them have their one kill. They will de-pip. The game punishes a Killer by taking away Emblem points, which count towards ranking up, whenever the Killer is next to a hooked Survivor for over 16 seconds (assuming there isn't another Survivor within that range.)

Anti-camping strats were tested but they were...abused, shall we say.

This. When I started I thought invisible camping as wraith was awesome... and you know what, it was many many games before I ran into a team that punished me by doing gens and doing totems while I stood there. Then it was one BT save and everyone escapes teabagging me. I learned after a couple games like that that camping is both ineffective and looked down upon.

  • My mid day killer queue times on PC used to be absolutely horrendous, now I'm getting almost instant games so big thumbs up.

So far? Pretty happy. Majority of the current issues can all be attributed to the community (second chance meta, camping, tunnelling and slugging) and that can be put on the developers on some capacity for not trying to remove it, but overall the game could be in a worse place.

The fact that there are also such loyal content creators and even huge licenses from some of horrors biggest titles is an amazing achievement for such a small developer.

And say what you will about bugs and optimisation, but I find that to be part of the charm. Like how the Entity keeps making imperfect copies of locations, it mimics how an interdimensional being can't comprehend our universe completely, so a lore need such as myself can appreciate that part.

They have also gotten better with player feedback lately, and now the only main issue that I would like to see changed is how balancing is handled. Less full reworks, and more small number tweaks. We are seeing that with Hillbilly's overheat mechanic and I do think that it is a better idea.

Ok, so you lost some points. If I assume the Claudette was already on the hook and David was hooked at least once, plus the points that you get from them DC'ing, then you lose about 675 of the tons of other points that you get from other things in the game. You were not cheated out of points. SWF is also allowed in the game. A better word to use for describing their actions would be 'underhanded'.

If you need more, here is a link to a wiki that someone very dedicated to the game has made listing every single score event for survivor and killer that is possible.

Underhanded is a good description, it's legal and people even did it when the DC penalty was up.

Yall overestimate what luck offerings actually do

As someone said above it’s 64% to escape in 6 tries, and the 36% chance of failure doesn’t kill you it only takes you to second stage

I'll say it upfront. I'm a killer main who, while lacking a short fuse, definitely gets capital-s Salty. Like, so salty it seeps through my playstyle and makes it unfun for everyone involved. I've DC'd plenty of times when everything hits the fan (Like when you're trying an experimental killer build with low-tier perks and you get a red forest map of all realms while the 4 survivors run A tier perks.)

I've heard a lot of backlash about DC penalties a while back, which have died down recently due to the MMR system being the new hot topic, but I've been thinking about it.

If I'm salty enough to where the game is genuinely super unfun to me and I disconnect, why would a penalty really matter to me? Unless I've been doing it often and get a long ban, I'm not going to return to a game that infuriated me within the allotted ban time. Maybe it's just me and my lifestyle, but if you're really angry enough to DC that often and want to play immediately after, I think you have a personal addiction problem that the game shouldn't have to adapt around.

Oh and also I have ZERO clue if these are still active cause again, I don't pick up DBD for like another two hours if I DC. Please let me know if they aren't so that I can evaluate how much clownery is in my bloodstream.

(Also rework second stage hook so that survivors can't suicide and so that my spacebar doesn't get beaten to a pulp everytime I play survivor thanks bye)

I don’t think that rare rage quit is the issue, as survivor we’ve all had “those teammates,” and we just don’t wanna spend 15 minutes trying to carry them. As killer we’ve all faced those teams that outmatch you but refuse to just win and leave they wanna rub it in. You won’t get much backlash from me for DCing there.

Its the people who constantly DC over and over again hoping to log into their ideal match. For example survivors who instantly DC against Nurse, spirit, Freddy, legion, Doctor, PH, and slinger... basically they’re just hoping to run into a bad clown and then laugh in endgame “git good noob.”

If you waste 60 seconds camping someone who has a high probability of just killing themselves in like 10-15~ seconds as it is; that's the dumb move.

If it's a good SWF on comms, that 60 seconds will be roughly ~3 generators done. But do whatever you like I suppose.

Did you even read above or just comment, he tried immediately and got it on the third try so it took about it 5 seconds. If you think that wasted time I would like to play against your survivors who you can catch later and down in less than 5 seconds.

It really shows lack of adapting for him, if he would have at least waited til I walked away he could have had a chance. Had he called my bluff and waited even 10 seconds to attempt first I would have left.

It has been ages since i had probability calculation at study but I think you overestimate luck offerings and Slippery Meat quite a bit. It is also definitly no where near a Deliverance. Your normal chance of Kobe is 4% and if they all bring the best luck offering, a single self unhook attempt is still only 16%.

This means, it would take 13 attemps to just have a 90% chance of kobe which is still not a guaranteed kobe. Having more or less a 50/50 when you do the 6 attemps to risk beeing on deathook if it fails is absolutly not worth it.

In my opinion you wasted your time camping the survivor. Let them kobe, they gain nothing if they try.

I didn’t waste time, as soon as I hooked him he started trying. He got it on his third attempt so I smacked him down after maybe 5 seconds. Way less time wasted then if I had to chase him again.

Survivors a start of match: "Heh heh, we'll use these offerings and perks so we can self unhook easily, and punish the killer if he downs us again quickly. This is gonna be easy!"

Killer realizes what they're doing and counters it.

Survivors at end of match and on the forums afterwards: "IT WAS ONLY A MEME BUILD! WHY DO YOU HATE FUN AND LOVE AND EVERYTHING GOOD IN THE WORLD? GUESS I'LL SWITCH OUT SLIPPERY MEAT AND GO BACK TO META."

PSA: If the only difference between the meme build and the meta build is 1 perk and offerings, it's not much of a meme. It was a strat. A strat based on improving chances of self-unhooking and punishing a killer who hits after the unhook. Just because it isn't the most popular strat doesn't make it a strat. Meme builds are builds that won't really help you win the match, but can make 1 you good in one very specific set of circumstances. Mad Grit + Agitation + Iron Grasp + Lightborn for example, will probably not win many matches, but it's funny.

Thank you for explaining it to him for him, although he either won’t get it or already understands and just wants to argue.

A meme build if you ask me would be Pebble, Red Herring, quick and quiet iron will. You could watch the killer go all over the map looking for noises but the perks don’t really add much other than wasting a bit of time before the killer figured it out.
