  • If you are not willing to camp, you are not willing to tunnel. If you are not willing to tunnel, you are not willing to slug. That means you are just a basic killer who picks people up and hooks them which creates no pressure whatsoever.

Half these survivor mains don't ever play killer and if they did they would be terrible at it following their own rulebook. I can't imagine seeing an injured survivor and thinking "Oh oh, I can't go after him, that would be tunneling, tunneling is bad....I need to go after the fully healthy guy who hasn't been hooked yet. I need to give the survivors 10 million second chances so I can get 4 man outed"

The only people who follow that junk are streamers who get paid to play the game

I dont understand the mindset of early game campers. Like, I understand if they have 1 gen left and you want to secure your kill, but who thinks, "yeah, I'm gonna go into this games, hook someone, and stand there. This is going to be so much fun."

If you are playing to win? It's one of the best things you can do. An early basement hook is game ending on some killers. At 1 gen left you will just get screwed by the second chance perks. There's no reason to wait.

I don't just stand there but I will patrol nearby gens and then tunnel them off hook. I think trading 2-3 gens for a kill is worth it almost every time, it's very easy to snowball in a 3v1 through slugging. Trying to slug 4 people can be almost impossible though.

Alright, I see. So weak killers are still viable in solo queue and even against an average SWF. But what about the good ones? I see that the weaker ones are still viable, but honestly, it was only because the survivors were not the best going against someone who clearly knows what to do. You are practically helpless as a clown against a SWF running all meta perks. The only reason you would even dream of getting a 4k is that they messed up really badly, or became overly-altruistic. So most of the time you can safely assume that you will do well because of solo queue, but if a proper mmr system was implemented this would just not be the case at all. Also, it seems that the guy in this video was facing a lot of noobs which I guess proves your point about most survivors being bad. But my concern are the good ones, if they don't mess you you are screwed.

So, if the guy is going into like 50 games as perkless / addonless clown, against red rank survivors, and winning like 47 of the matches or something; it's not viable to play clown because of the 2 or 3 good teams you run across? Yes when you hit the meta object SWF it's going to be painful, but whatever. You can probably still manage a 2k, which is a draw and balanced in the eyes of the devs.

If you only care about 4king every game you can just play Spirit / Nurse / Freddy /etc. Not every killer needs to be Spirit level.

  • Get some Bubba in there. Enduring + Bamboozle Bubba is really easy to play, probably easier than Freddy. Corrupt intervention really helps with the early game alot of the time.

I pretty much always run corrupt or discordance. I see way too many games where I spawn in next to another survivor right at a gen and we slam it out in ~40 seconds before the killer has downed anyone. Corrupt or Discordance prevents that. Discordance is also really good for knowing how much a chase is going to cost you. If you get into one and it procs, you have like 15-20 seconds to win that chase or you will lose the gen.

I see the point you are trying to make, but this data is not really that reliable. And no, I am pretty sure not every red rank pig runs those addons. The data shown above only takes into account the kind of ranks we are dealing with, the killers picked, and the average kill rate. It doesn't take into account strong perks for the survivors those killers faced, such as DS. Nor does it take info from people such as SWF groups and the type of map they were put in. I guess you could say that a weak killer is viable against solo survivors, but even then you will struggle as someone like Trapper or Wraith. Solo queuing survivors are not as helpless as they seem. Also what about DC's, or people killing themselves on hook? I don't mean to come off as rude btw.

It still shows that every killer is more than capable of winning at red ranks. I play a ton of different killers at red rank, including the ones people consider weak. Sure, you will have problems taking an M1 killer into a 4 man meta SWF; but most players are not god loopers or anything. Against an average SWF you can do fine. I also think it's up to the player to choose perks that will compliment their playstyle instead of slapping on ruin undying and expecting to win every game.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nx1k5TeOj8c

You can watch this guy win almost every single game as perkless / addonless clown at rank 1.

I disagree on it being okay to have killers with different power levels. People most of the time find killers fun who are also effective at doing their job, ie killing. If you have killers who are weaker it will drive people away from them the higher the ranks they go. This means you will only see the same killers at the high ranks, Oni's, spirit's, p heads, etc. This creates rather stale gameplay in some people's eyes. I myself would also like to see more killers that are actually threatening at the high ranks. Even a really good player who decides to play someone like pig will get destroyed against survivors who know that they are just an m1 killer and take advantage of that.

Every killer is more than viable into solo Q teams. The latest stats released showed a very healthy mix of killers played at red ranks. Pig actually had one of the highest kill rates for whatever reason. Probably because every red rank pig runs double head pop add-ons which turns the power into an RNG mori if you are on the hook when the timer starts.

Its fine that Killers have different Power Levels. If you compare Wraith and Oni, you should also acknowledge that playing Wraith is easier than playing Oni.

It is fine to have Killers who are strong and Killers who are weaker, especially when they are more simple to play. The only difference are Freddy and Spirit, both are not hard to play (with Freddy being the easiest Killer) with the strength they have.

So its good that there are Killers which you basically can pick up and play without having to study them before, but it is also fine if those are not the strongest Killers.

Yeah I don't really mind it, and the weaker killers end up having some of the most fun add-ons. All the recent killers have pretty boring add-ons except Blight. I never get excited putting points into Pyramid Head, but Clown it's like candy in a shop. Bleach + Ether 15% bottles? Yes please. A couple meters more on punishment of the damned? Meh.

Of course, I love using stuff like this on Wraith and it is super fun. But the problem is that even this against a team who knows what they are doing regardless of being in a SWF you will still struggle to kill anyone. With the best addons for wraith (Purple windstorm + coxcombed clapper) he will still suck on an open map. Devour hope is pretty high-risk high reward too. Maps are mostly survivor or killer sided as well, such as lery's.

It feels like Wraith needs at least 3 different addons to be able to use him while cloaked well. Sure you could do very well with the build described above, but this is not consistent. What if you start up in one of the farm maps? Or the Macmillian?

I compared the two without addons because I wanted to show the difference and usefulness of their power without getting really into it. With addons these killers are changed quite a bit, just look at the scalped topknot for Oni or the bone clapper for Wraith.

Also, I also don't think that killers should have a few addons that really change their power (except for the ultra rares). The fact that the windstorm addons have such a huge impact on Wraith says something about his core design. I feel like any killer should be changed to the point where they perform just fine without addons, addons should be what really makes killers pop out. Just not super crazy. For example, the Huntress's belts that give her more hatchets.

It's not like you are ever constrained to one killer. I play Hag with browns/yellows usually but then go dump the points into a killer who actually needs them.

And with a really strong basekit you get some killers with lame add-ons. I love playing Pyramid Head but good lord are the add-ons trash/boring. Oni is another one like that, pretty boring add-ons for the most part. It's not like Myers/Wraith/Blight/etc where they completely change up the game.

Clown is pretty junk without add-ons but the second you give him ether or bleach he's a monster.

  • I don't really think looking at killers without add-ons is the way to go. If you run BBQ even somewhat regularly you can basically always be running greens and purples. Oni doesn't really get anything crazy add-on wise besides topknot.

But wraith has a ton of really fun stuff to use.

    Capture2.PNG

Silent bell wallhack wraith on an indoor map is amazing. And if the D hope goes off? 1 shots into mori's from complete stealth, from around corners. Disgusting. Way more powerful than Oni would be with 5 stacks.

  • People say it doesn't work, but if it didn't work I would not get so much hate for it.

    Capture1.PNG Capture2.PNG

Just had a game where I proxy camped someone to death in the basement at 5 gens left and still double pipped. Isn't that what the basement is for? I don't see any other use for it....

I hear you on this. And I am trying. But after years of playing this game, I have been conditioned that a pip means you performed well.

Imagine in monopoly, after passing go, you had to pay 200 dollars.

    Not as fun.

Nah, the ranking system is pretty bad. Kill the survivors too fast? Sorry, black pip. Every 4k black pip I get is usually followed by a scoff.

Not running any gen slowdown perks? No gatekeeper for you, unless you are absolutely dropping people or the survivors are afraid of holding M1.

  • Crushing defeat. I would rather get 4 hooks and 4 kills than that.

  • Not really, since crossplay was introduced it's hardly something I think about. I usually see a blatant hacker once a month maybe, and it's a 4-5 minute match anyways, so who cares. I have only seen a hacker bully squad once in my entire life.

  • Just stay healthy, and steal victor at any given chance if the map is safe enough.

I actually got my half my team killed the other day because I was trolling with him on my back and didn't realize he blocked you from leaving at the exit gate

Which a killer is able to do. The tools are provided. It all falls down to player choices.

No, it falls down to individual skill levels. Even looping for 10-15 seconds is crippling to a killer going for the 12 hook game. There is so much safety on the majority of the maps it is disgusting. Unless you are playing someone who just ignores it all.

    Capture.PNG

I'm half wasted and still dunking on kids using absolutely nothing. Literally "man with knife". And there are still rage disconnects.

  • There is basically unlimited safety against the majority of the killers. Load into coldwind farm? There's probably 15-20 safe pallets to use.

Only the killers who ignore the game mechanics, such as nurse and spirit, can down competent survivors quickly.

  • Because all the gens can be done in 4 minutes, unless the killer is able to create pressure.

  • Victor is one of the strongest 1v1 abilities in DBD I have used. Especially with extra victor speed and attack charge speed add-ons.

Unfortunately, I don't like the character or aesthetics. But it doesn't make them any less strong.

  • Gee, i'm not sure. Something about survivors escaping after only 3 gens have been done(which takes 80 seconds between the team), or all the survivors escaping without having to do the exit gates. It is actually robbing the killer player of half the match.

I am only playing the BS killers until they get nerfed. I see them way too much currently. There is little to no answer to them since the mori nerf, except playing an OP killer.

Poor thing, probably the only game you lost. Stop being entitled.

I'm a Nurse main yes, but I adapted. I started off as a PS4 Nurse, then advanced to PC 1.5 years ago because I wanted to hone in my Nurse skills. Ventured out as well and mained Huntress.

    I adapted, I grew, I learned, I adjusted.

It's what a gamer does, and you will get no sympathy from me for others. They will learn, if not....oh well. It's been almost 2 years since the DS rework, at this point they're pouring Tequila, Salt, Lime and Cointreau into their own wounds and complaining about it.

Then you play the game on easy mode. Huntress is super easy as well because of the busted hatchet hitboxes. I can't say I have any respect for you. I played nurse when I was new to the game.

  • @BigBrainMegMain said:

You knew someone had DS. There's an indicator on the bottom.

Why couldn't you just slug her instead of hooking her? This was on YOU, you knew she was recently unhooked why did you pick her up?

Why are you pretending this perk doesn't exist? Anyone could have DS in between the 60 seconds she/he gets unhooked.

    This was on YOU.

Don't blame the perk because you were sloppy.

You admit to being a nurse main, correct? That's hardly even playing DBD. I bet you would have different opinions if you were down on earth playing an M1 killer like most other people.

  • @Grum_P said:

I had three gens left and everyone in the same area of the stairs in Hawkens. The difficult gen was out of the way and every survivor was being way too altruistic. Then this happened, I hooked a nea, she got unhooked, I downed and hooked three survivors, then caught and downed her, then was promptly DS'd and lost every drop of pressure I had on the map. I then promptly lost with one kill. How is this goddamn acceptable? Why was pop nerfed before this goddamn perk?? With pop you have to hook, walk to a gen, kick it, then go and find a survivor. But with DS if you've been unhooked under 60 seconds ago you're invincible and can't be touched.

Don't believe the crybabies. DS is the biggest crutch perk in DBD. You will eat it if you are tunneling or not. You will see it on 3/4 survivors at high ranks. I call it crutch strike.

It stops the trash survivors from dying too fast so they keep playing. That's all it is. Just tunnel and take them out through it.

How is he not ''good'' at anything? Let's actually look at his powers:

-Demogorgon's portals let you teleport from one side of the map to the other. If you spread them around on the generators, you have access to any part of the map quicker than any other killer, save Freddy. Survivors can cleanse these portals, but it gives the Demogorgon a free 12-15 second slow-down mechanic multiple times a match and it just takes him two seconds to put another down, or teleport to one near the destroyed portal and pressure the survivor(s).

-Demogorgon telling everyone he's teleporting is no different than Oni screaming, Billy revving his chainsaw, Spirit phasing, etc, but people consider them to have immense mobility, which is an unfair difference.

-Shred destroys non-circular structures like shack or windows at jungle gyms. It may be an issue on console, but on PC, it's a power that can easily zone survivors or force them to take a hit.

He has very good mobility and anti-loop potential, people just haven't figured out how to use his power to its full potential, and generally simply listen to the streamers who underestimate him.

Nah, demo is pretty trash. You can win with him, but you can win with anybody.

Even if you are super on point with the shreds and using rat liver he is mediocre. Mediocre anti-loop, mediocre zoning, mediocre map pressure. Anything he can do, other killers do far better. You can hardly afford to use the portals until the game is practically won.

He is fun to play at least, and has good chase music.

I grab them all the time. *In regards to the original topic, I think I ran into that team this morning. The lag was SO BAD they were constantly vanishing in front of me and I'd find myself somewhere else on the map.

Then you are playing against some real spuds. The survivors have to practically be AFK for you to actually get it instead of a canceled animation. Grabs were dead since dedicated servers came out.

  • Evading grabs lol, like you can ever grab survivors in the first place.

I´d argue that both have merit in their own regard, even depending on the Killer that uses it. Just to give an example: With oni, you might catch people healing somewhere rather hidden with BBQ so you know you can refuel there. It´s also helpful for finding the last 1-2 Survivors. Purely talking gen defense, TT has the edge though.

I agree, but I only run thrilling if I am running pop or ruin at the same time. And I have had some very close matches where the difference between having to look around and figure out where to go, as opposed to just making a beeline to a gen, was the difference between saving it or having the gen be completed.

  • Do people really use thrilling as a slowdown? It's purely a tracking perk to me.

And it's better than BBQ, because BBQ there is a margin for error in a tight match where you might not catch on to someone behind the generators aura in the heat of the moment. Thrilling eliminates that, and tells you exactly where to go next if your goal is defending generators.

  • Capture.PNG

Nope. Camping and tunneling my way to 300 -reps as we speak. Facecamping every object user along the way. Feels good man.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/213035/the-new-killer-strategy

The only way poor behavior will end is if the devs put mechanics in place that discourages it (and I can think of multiple ways of doing so for all of the various toxic behaviors we see). This is going to be an uphill battle because I've watched DBD devs streaming themselves playing Killers and engaging in poor behavior like tunneling and face-camping, and almost every streamer I've watched does the same thing. It's a shame, because such behavior utterly ruins the enjoyment for one or more players.

If someone's way of "winning" ends up ruining the enjoyment of other people playing? Then in my opinion, that's not winning at all.

That's a bad argument. You think one side cares about the others fun in literally any other PvP game ever? You would never survive playing call of duty, that's for sure.

  • @Saitamfed said:

Well, perks are bandaid fixes. And in order for those bandaids player must either pay with real money or grind horribly in the game. Also, forced penance is not really a tunneling perk although it's good to know where those two healing survivors went.

I don't tunnel nor camp and I can do well with nurse's as an example. I am a main pig and I do very well with her but I mean, toxicity is indeed a problem and needs to be addressed.

I definitely consider it a tunneling perk. There's usually little reason for survivors to come take body block hits otherwise. I think you have it mistaken for deathbound which is more of a tracking perk. Forced penance is protection hits apply broken to the survivor for 80 seconds, which stops people with healing builds/medkits from constantly taking hits while you are trying to kill someone.

And yes you can do fine being a "nice" killer while playing the top tier killers in the game, or against potato survivors.

But going into a game as say, Clown or Wraith and trying for 12 separate hooks while letting survivors unhook and heal for free against a good team is a great way to lose.

  • @Saitamfed said:

    Just one word... toxicity.

Survivors toxicity is more seen. Why? Because there are four survivors, you might have three non-toxic survivors but you will always focus in that toxic nea with purple hair and a flashlight who knows how to run tiles and tries to be toxic at you... if you leave her and go for the rest, she will tank hits and make your match the most unfun and frustrating experience, if you decide to go at her, due to some reworked tiles there are many pallets so close to each other and she will run those tiles, spamming their flashlight, the other survivors will do gens and open the exit gate since you're not chasing them, so you will be frustrated trying to catch a toxic player who is clearly outplaying you and who is far better than you, just to be t-bagged at the end of the match.

Now, it's true that there are several good matches with non-toxic survivors but since there are so many bad ones, they will outnumber those good ones.

Notice this, top tier killers are killers who "break the rules" in some way. Nurse as an example can blink through pallets, windows and close big gaps in a few seconds. Spirit, when you're using her power, she can't be seen and your traveling speed is faster, of course that comes with the counter that you can't see survivors either. Hillbily, he can one-shot, not only that but he can break pallets with the one-shot as well, he can use his chainsaw to travel through the map at an insane speed.

Basically.. there are some bad map designs and there are just a few killers who are good enough to make it up for those bad designs.

I mean, the game has given killers so many tools to deal with that. You can play any killer in the game into solo Q teams just fine.

There's a ton of anti-bully, anti-SWF perks in the game at this point.

There's literally a tunneling perk now (to go along with the king tunneler himself), called forced penance.

Just don't follow the survivor rulebook. The basic killer strategy if you are playing perkless/addonless is to tunnel the first guy off the hook; wait out BT, and then eat DS. Then you guard a 3 gen nearby until he dies or is saved and you finish him off. Since the games last around 5-6 minutes without slowdown; I never feel bad about killing someone in 2-3.

  • @Mozzie said:

Matchmaking is a real issue when it comes to killer shortage. If you're a newer killer you are more likely to get matched against players with more experienced than not. This can be incredibly frustrating where I imagine the casual players just give up on the idea of playing the game as killer. I also feel incredibly bad for the people who picked up the game 2018+. You are just at such a disadvantage with the grind to ever catch up.

To be fair, grinding out a meta build is not that difficult for either side. Ruin Undying is 2 characters. BT/DS/Unbreakable is also 2 characters.

  • @Ghoste said:

Bubba is definitely underrated. He was a meme for so long that it's burned into people's brains.

How about The Twins? I have to say I vastly underestimated what a good Killer player can do with them. It's been pretty hard to defeat them in solo queue.

I don't think Bubba is underrated, he has one of the highest kill rates in the game currently. Chili and bamboozle basically turn him unstoppable if you are confident with his saw at loops.

I think clown is pretty underrated, without add-ons he is trash tier. But ether or bleach turn him into a chasing nightmare, and easily one of the strongest 1v1 killers.

  • Really depends on the killer.

Enduring/Bamboozle is my go-to for M1 killers. Gives you a bit of everything. Spirit fury is nice but won't help you if you are getting looped for a year at a jungle gym, god window, or the shack.

I will do Enduring/Brutal on someone who doesn't care too much about windows but also doesn't counter pallets; like clown.

I will do Endfury with a map offering sometimes, on a map with few strong windows. The game is amazing for enduring fury.

Nemesis/PWYF is only good on 1 shot killers, and even then it's kinda ehh. Takes a very long time to build up. It is incredible once you get there but every token needs to be a down to really justify it.

Brutal/Fire Up is really nice on someone like Myers; who is going to be respecting pallets since he can stalk if they miss the stun.

  • Nah. The issues have been in the game since it came out. But it's only now they decide to nerf mori's in a hotfix, with little to no warning? Instant medkits were spammed for a month solid prior to the nerf, because it was announced.

Now, I have seen more keys in the span of one night than I usually do in a week. Tons of people are running object of obsession with no fear. It's a travesty.

I will still keep playing the game, but not as a weak killer. You get the Spirit or Nurse from me until they fix keys.

Keys haven't been touched because they changes they're making likely take longer to implement. Keys are an item with addons, and require more work to change.

Moris were nerfed the first time because they were absurdly overpowered and nerfed now because the game is weeding out the older problematic mechanics of the past. It's definitely not favoratism.

Yeah, they have been in the game for years; but somehow mori's were magically nerfed in a hotfix but the dev's didn't have time to get to keys.

Oh, but instant med kits? Everyone was given a huge heads up the nerf was coming. And those were spammed like candy for almost a month solid until it hit.

Outrageous, as someone who plays both sides. People are open carrying keys like guns in the wild west right now. And there is no answer.

  • Franklin's doesn't mean jack. As I said, they can just hide it.

If I have to spend 90 seconds camping an item to death that's sad. I should have spent the 90 seconds camping a survivor to death.

I honestly don't mind keys when I am playing Spirit. I am seeing them about every 3rd lobby at this point. But I don't want to play Spirit. I want to play Clown or Wraith. But it's not possible right now with most of these lobbies I am seeing.

It doesn't matter. I have played the game a ton. I am sure most killers have not. The game is in a sad state for killers right now. It always has been.

It's a free win for 3-4 man SWFs right now. There is little counter to keys. There is little counter to object of obsession. There is little counter to Haddonfield. And people know it. That's why I am playing Spirit until keys are nerfed. I don't care she is broken.

Cosmetics don't mean anything. I have played full meta baby dwight just to throw people off sometimes. Franklin's does nothing. They can just hide the key somewhere on the map. Spirit is busted, but so is a map and a key with a SWF on comms so whatever.

Yes, dedicate half your build to depriving survivors of their items. It's trash.

I have used it with Bubbas item's dropping chainsaw. It gets you into an early chase at the best. But so does.....every other good tracking perk in the game? And they don't buff the survivors chances of looting a key?

  • Yeah, except the problem is, mori's never boosted your rank. If anything, you depipped for using them. The same with Tombstone's. Every time I rock a tombstone at red ranks I almost always depip. And it's hilarious to me because I never cared about my rank in the first place.

The guy called "keygun" likes keys in the game? Shocker.

"I play fair games with survivors at my skill level" is a paid actor statement. Everyone knows this game puts literal rank 20 killers into red ranks because nobody wants to play killer.

Playing killer feels like a job half the time. How many times do you have to kill the same person before they finally run out of second chance perks?

While the mori change was needed I feel like they could've held off till keys were ready too. That way it didnt feel like killers are getting screwed. Not to mention I still think people will suicide or dc because of moris.

I still have people DCing at the loading screen because of mori's, or complaining about them in the post game chat. Proof people are either super entitled or don't read the patch notes.

No, you just think you do. If you lose to a "sweaty 4 man" , it's more of a you problem than anything, because those squads are rare, and even then still beatable.

I've played at rank 1 for years. I have gone against a few NA tournament squads. I can tell you from experience you cannot beat them if you are not using a Mori unless you are playing Nurse or Spirit. It's just not possible. Even with a Mori they usually just leave the person on the hook until 2nd stage anyways.

And I rarely play strong killers, because I find them too easy against solo Q teams most of the time. But now I'm locked into them when I recognize an Object SWF that I have played against. And I will have no answer.

The only answer is to stop playing the weaker killers, or dodge.
