Well said!
So would you say what bothers you most when playing killer is the toxicness you're facing, the unbalance of SWF and unbalanced perks like DS?
Would you play more killer if it weren't for these things?Thank you very much for reading! Okay. A lot to talk about:
(...)
TLDR: Yes. Although I don’t care about any survivor perks, I would definately play killer more often and with less stress if toxicity/SWF weren’t issues. As far as I’m concerned, killer mains are heroes.Thank you for taking the time to give such a detailed response (I read everything, of course)!
It surely is an interesting topic. I'd like to see more people playing killer.
So do you think most survivor mains never actually play killer? Or (if not “never”) they have only dedicated less than 10% of their playtime to the killer? And it’s a lack of understanding that drives half of the toxicity?
I have my suspicions going into that direction. There surely are a lot of unbalanced things in DbD but a lot of survivor mains don't seem to recognize how unbalanced these are.
That's why I am asking. I am honestly curious if those survivor mains usually don't play killer at all. I mean, how many survivor mains are super skilled nurse players that aren't bothered too much by keys, insta-heals, SWF groups with 3 DS?
You also have to realize that compared to how it once was, it's a lot better. They've done a lot to improve the experience for killers and while there's still more to be done, a lot of killer mains don't even seem to be aware of the improvements their side has seen. I understand DS is BS, but you have some complaining about pallets and many who don't understand camping and tunneling can ruin the experience for the other side. They want their buffs, but they also want to play in the same exact way they always did prior to the buff with no affect to their points or their pips.

I started out as a survivor main on PS4 when the game came out but started playing killer when the Halloween Chapter came out. It is about 50/50 at the moment. Seeing both sides of the game makes you understand certain arguments. You may not agree with that posters opinion but you understand where they are coming from. I would suggest anyone who mains either side play both even if you are not very good. What I've found is that it also helps improve your gameplay if you become decent or at least play around with the other side.

If not for a reason like that, it's also good to have variety in what you do. Too much of either is bound to drive you up a wall and both have their upsides and downsides. Why otherstand the concerns/strategoes of the other side when you can just get it nerfed?

You're barking up the wrong tree.

Learned it opened when I repaired the last two gens against a Pig solo and opened doors, only for them to ask why I didn't go for hatch. When I responded I didn't have a key, the Pig than politely explained to newbie me the thing opened on its own, and was impressed I stealth repaired the gens.
Awe, that's precious. Good job newbie you on doing the two gens. c:

Coming to DBD from Friday the 13th I thought I would have to conserve stamina and didn't run outside of chases. I also didn't think stealth was any kind of option (in Friday your character screams if Jason walks by) so I took off running the opposite direction as soon as I heard the killer's heartbeat. I didn't know what to run to exactly so it was mostly just in a straight line. If I wasn't easy enough to kill already, I also didn't realize there was a sound cue before skill checks and failed them all miserably.I can understand how that'd throw you off. Despite seeming similar, the two games are quite different. I actually watched streamers for a while before I caved and bought the game, so I knew some base stuff (this was before tutorials). There was quite a bit I didn't know, though, or misunderstood.

Never noticed the speed burst you get when you become injured?
You mean the initial hit? You're essentially hitting the survivor forward. I was talking about remaining injured and running around.

Almost every time I run into survivors that rage DC, act toxic, or complain about tunneling/camping/slugging etc, it's always survivors that don't play killer hardly at all or only at super low ranks. They have no perspective. I try to tell them that if they actually played killer at high ranks as well their actions and opinions would change entirely but they don't listen. It's also why we get the constant posts in these forums of people that were only survivor mains who finally played killer enough to come back and apologize that they were so wrong about a myriad of things.Someone who gets annoyed with game mechanics they perceive as unfair or annoying isn't on the same level as someone who willfully breaks the rules (DCs).

It's good for certain killers, but probably not the best for a majority of them. The huntress can benefit from the increase locker speed, for instance, and killers people often hide in lockers against (such as Doctor) can benefit from it, as well.

I also thought that Claudette is a healer class, so she has to heal quicker. (I mostly play Healer and Support in MOBAs and MMOs).My first killer I faced was pig and she was very nice. I remember apologizing for taking so long to find the hatch (was the last one alive) and explained I was new and she encouraged me to play more and was basically had a "we all start somewhere" kind of sentiment while she was talking to me.

First off, this isnt a rework, its a buff.If you want to make it so this perk grants you immunity against Thrill of the Hunt, then you cant have the total totem count. Not only you are making the perk too powerful to trump the entire totem system, but also the perk would contradict itself.
If someone has TotH, then you shorten the cleansing time by doing dull totems. If you are immune to this, then why would you care about dull totems? (I know, NOED, but thats not the point Im saying)
I would however not be opposed to having two different perks for this. Or with a rework to the totem system, like only cleansing the effect temporarily or for yourself.
I believe OP said it was a rework 'cause it took out detecting Killer traps to just allow you to see where totems are and remain hidden if they had TotH. Honestly I think it just needs a buff to speed. I doubt it's used all that often, even if it does counter two killer's powers.

It depends on the context, I suppose. I often think of the fun/tense chases and the funny moments that have happened to both me and other people I watch often. The soundtrack is great, too.

Seriously. Why bother camping a hook after you get a survivor? For one, while your dumbass is camping the hook, other survivors are (or should be) fixing generators and stuff. For 2, it takes away from the "survive" experience. By not giving survivors a chance to actually get free from the hooks, you're taking away the horror movie feel the game is SUPPOSED to have--getting caught, escaping, only to potentially get caught again; that is a horror movie staple. It's part of the FUN.And by hook camping, you are taking away that fun. I don't see what the [BAD WORD] possible gain the killer gets from hook camping. Are these guys just tryhards with nothing better to do than to swell their e-peens?
Killers camp the hooks 'cause it's beneficial to do so. If survivors stopped feeding into it by going for unsafe saves (without BT) and swarming the hooks instead of doing gens, it would be less beneficial to do so, but you'll always get that one person greedy for points or that group who doesn't know what to do (gens) when someone is camped and swarms the hook instead, waiting for the save.
You have to realize Killers are players, too, and they're trying to get their points and their pips any way they deem fit. Not every Killer you come across will camp, but a lot will if they feel disadvantaged since a lot of people do feed into camping, especially in solo play where you can't say "they're camping, do gens."

I was soloing, but at the end saw a mixed bag of ranks, so the others prob were. As such, idk the whole story on the others' level of toxicity.
Oh, it's possible you got unlucky, then. I've had multiple games where the killer camped 'cause SWF was present, though I don't expect to get out if I'm ever hooked tbh.

I'm not sure if showing rank would actually be a good idea. I'd rather just have the SWF's lowest rank be the rank of the killer (so if you have a rank 2 and a rank 10, you're getting a rank 2). That seems like a fair change that wouldn't result in more dodging.Seems fair, if the queue times weren’t awful. When I play SWF on PS4 (which is rarely), we’ll sit in matchmaking for half an hour. I was Rank 2 and my friend was Rank 18...we ended up getting a Rank 10 because that was the best option. You won’t always get the highest rank because queue times are super long.
I've heard people talk about having a pool for match up, too, which may help the wait time for higher ranks. So, you'd get in a game with 1-5, etc.

I agree. It's OP that you can play on a lower setting to reduce lag. We should really do something about that.

Recently, it's been happening more often since pretty sure they broke something recently. Why games had been loading in with 3 survivors quite regularly for a while.

Typically I don't complain about this, but it has gotten to a ridiculous point. I am a Rank 1 killer and survivor and since this event has started, I have gotten the worst of the worst. Disconnecter's, griefers, conceded solo players, etc. But the thing that has bothered me the most lately has been the skill gap within the team that I am matched with. It is ridiculous to me that I am being matched with people that are dropping pallets and wasting pallets without even doing a proper loop, getting downed within seconds of a chase, running in a open field exposing themselves and lastly the most annoying of all, not doing a single gen for 3+ minutes because Hex: Ruin is active and no one is willing to touch a generator until the hex has been cleansed. These are just the several issues that I have encountered throughout this event which is making it 10x harder than it needs to be. You might be reading this and wondering to yourself, "why not just play killer?" Well here's the confusing part. Considering everything I just said about my survivor experience you would think I would have it easy on myself playing against idiot survivors right? Wrong. I get the exact opposite survivors. The survivors I face, have ridiculous teamwork (could be voice chat), they gen rush regardless if Ruin is active or they cleanse ruin seconds into the match. They hook rush while others are working gens so it has me in a dilemma if I want to tunnel the injured survivor or go after the ones doing gens. Aside from altruistic survivors, I get plenty of survivors who know the in's and out's of every possible loop in the map which makes chases last longer. I understand that I am going to get these types of survivors playing as a killer because I am Rank 1, but why is it that I get these type of survivors consistently when I am playing as killer and then when I switch over to survivor I get the most stupid, "how did you get to this rank" survivors that literally have me just giving up in my games because it is absolutely ridiculous how these people get nothing done in 5 minutes or they constantly get downed one after the other having me to babysit them.Conceded solo players? I take it you generally SWF, then? You have to realize SWF is part of the problem, along with DS. People are being pulled up to a rank where they don't belong, thus showing it once in a solo match or playing with less friends. While it's fun to play with friends, sometimes people will look for someone to carry them and it can get them a lot further along than they should be able to get. You also have to realize throwing down pallets to prologue the chase isn't a thing that'll hurt the person doing it, point-wise. While it's preferable when pallets aren't wasted, it happens from time to time. The event also adds a sparkle to survivors, too, making them so much easier to see. So if they would rely on stealth before, they no longer can if they play into the event. This is just a couple of the issues.
I dunno what to tell you about them not doing gens. Are you sure they really aren't doing anything? I find half the time when people claim no one's doing anything, it's because they're not aware of what survivors around them are doing. I've had someone complain (in a match I was part of) that no one did anything, but I got a few gens past half way and was chased off them multiple times and ran the killer around for a while. Point is it isn't helpful to assume your teammates aren't doing anything.
-
I like playing both, but I'm not as good at killer or used to all the mechanics as I am with survivor. I can empathize with both sides, though, and I'll say you'll run into the occasion toxic SWF/Survivor as a solo player, too. I like to play around with perks and different builds as survivor.
-
It depends on the circumstance. I would argue that if someone is sandbagging (farming, etc.) the team and they get put on the hook, they're not getting off in many cases and I'm not blinking at that. If the killer camps, it's better if people don't go for it, but if you have the chance to save them, you should regardless of if you think they'd save you or not. The game is easier with a full team and you get pips and so on for going for a safe saves and helping out your team.

I uh... I think every killer is braindead and strong in a 1v1. Cause that's the point. Weaker alone, stronger in groups.
Sure you can't loop a 'good' Legion player and you'd die if you were alone. But you can loop a good Trapper and you'd still die because you are in a match with no one to help or repair gens.
I will say though, I hate Lagions. Which I face 75% of the time, 100% of the time.
When I say 1v1, I mean he'll catch you if he chases you, unless he's bad. It's like having BT applied to you the second he hits you and he can get to you rather quickly. If he doesn't hit you down, you'll fall to the deep wounds. I honestly don't think the screen should get that bloody affect, either. Hard to see stuff.

Just had a game against SWF since solo players seem to avoid the event. I need bloodpoints so I'm still running BBQ, Thrill of the hunt and distressing combined with a blood pudding. They obviously managed to finish all gens and I had 2 kills so far. I managed to down a Laurie Strode just in front of the hatch and his buddy obviously left immediately because he thought he'd get a free escape by using Decisive Strike.
I dribbled his self entitled ass to the hook and guess what. I immediately go hate messages and voice chat invitations. I joined it for the lolz and the first thing I heard was "imagine being so bad at playing killer that you need to dribble to get a 3k"
Long story short: Even if you play without ruin, without noed, without camping, without tunneling - you will still get hate. What a nice community. Makes me wanna go full tryhard. Guess I'll use some ebony moris combined with ruin, noed, camping, tunneling etc.
Imagine being so bad at survivor that you need to bring a free escape.

I'm saying that if you're doing something that takes skill, you should be rewarded for it. A doctor standing next to someone with his hand out isn't really skilled play. Someone hanging around nearby just to immediately down the person if they're unhooked isn't really skilled play, either. I'm not saying there isn't times that call for such methods. I'm just saying it's boring. I'd get bored if I did that as killer.
Why do you only take a portion of what I post and omit the rest of it btw? Genuinely wondering. This isn't a skill based game. This game relies on players to make mistakes. You're playing the wrong game if you want something skill based. Why do you think most players, especially in the higher ranks, play Billy or Nurse? It's not because they take skill, it's because they are easiest killers to win with.
I'm replying to a part of your post because the rest is irrelevant to my reply.
There is skill to it, though. If you pit a rank 10's preformance against a rank 1, the rank 1 will often take corners better and have a better understanding on how to play the game. They're generally pretty decent with tracking. Compare either with say a rank 15 and there's a huge difference. We can also compare it with the time spent in the game, though skill level generally caps at a point. Nurse is one of the hardest killers to learn in the game, though, and I don't just see those two in higher ranks. I see all kinds of killers, just not the weak ones who need a buff like Freddy.
Oh, okay.

Accidental DC isn't against the rules, but it IS under unsportsmanlike conduct. They should do more to punish it imo. It completely ruins the game for everyone else left in the match. Other games have wait times to discourage DCing, I'm pretty sure. I've heard about that from elsewhere. Otherwise just resetting the lobby and keeping your offerings would also be a nice fix if someone DCs at the very start or can't connect due to the loading screen freezing, etc. That doesn't really matter, my point is simple: You are allowed to DC for somewhat 40% and only then the devs consider it worthy to punish. That's their tolerance, it's a simple fact. You are allowed to DC for roughly 40% of the matches and you won't get any punishment because the devs think that's fine.
@fluffybunny said:
I still play competitively, I just also play for fun and I just don't consider it a "win" if only one person leaves and does so through the hatch. The hatch is a boring mechanic and often a free win for survivor and most of the time the best player doesn't even get the hatch. It's the person who's afking next to it and hiding when things look bleak that does. That's just my opinion.I honestly don't think it'd be a good idea to make being killed = depipping, either. I don't think it'd make for fun games. Skill isn't really something easily measured in games like this. There's so many things to account for, such as the skills of allies, what others are doing, etc. If they HAD to live to get pips, they'd be more likely to play SWF and bring in the OP perks (hi, DS) and the really good items. It'd probably make for more selfish players, too. And anyone who plays survivor would cry about their survival rate as it actually would account for more than leaving with an item, doing a daily, and getting gold/silver/iridescent.
Survivors would avoid feeding unnecessary kills if escaping was of higher priority, that's my point in that regard. Escaping shouldn't be a requirement for you if you play for fun, because escaping (running through the exit gate) is not fun in any way or form. It's just a few seconds of running straight forward.
One of the biggest problems in DbD is that both sides can win at the same time. There is no real competition against each other, objectively seen, which is why pip progression and match results should never be used as representation for balance.
A match can result in a 4k but all Survivors pipped. A match can result in a 0k but even the Killer pipped. Especially towards the end of the match, Survivors that are still alive most likely pipped anyway, so they're a lot more likely to throw the match by going for stupid rescue actions. Stuff like that wouldn't happen if escape was more important or even a requirement to "win".
I personally find it preferable that both sides can technically win, even if one side doesn't actually escape or stop the escaping. While escaping can be fun especially after a very tense chase, I don't think it necessarily measures skill, either. I had a game where everyone got downed with NOED and the DS user made it out without even trying to get a single person off the hook. Pretty sure there was at least two people if not three and one of the hooks was bound to be safe. The player didn't play well, but was gloating about being the only one to get out. There's more to a "win" than just escaping is my point.
I do get that using survival and death rates can be a bit strange considering you don't necessarily have to escape/kill everyone to pip. What would you suggest them measure instead when measuring for balance? I know what the community says regarding possible issues, but maybe there's too many voices for them to hear out everyone. Whether you pip or not doesn't always mean anything, either. I don't believe I've every lost a pip as killer and when I lose one as survivor, it's usually thanks to survivors farming you, which I don't think is intended.

Give killers stacks for DCs.
Give survivors the ability of getting tokens from healings and 2 tokens for safe, 0 tokens for unsafe hooks.
It wouldn't hurt anybody imo.
I think you should get your token if someone DCs and you haven't hooked them yet. I like those ideas for WGLF, too. Alternatively, I think you should lose tokens for unsafe unhooks, though just not getting tokens would help with farming and stuff I think.

This is true. It's far too likely for the SWF to be toxic. Sometimes they're nice, but a lot of time you hear things like "the random sucked" or they gang up on you 'cause how dare you stand up for the killer.
-
@Vietfox That's true. I've had games (where I sensed a NOED) that I was the only one getting totems and plenty where the killer went from a 1k to a 3k 'cause I was the only on getting them. Recently I've been keeping totems 'til end game, though, for extra points if I cleanse it. Sometimes the only person they get is death hook, too.
@Mushwin Iron Will and Urban Evasion are very strong together. I usually run Bond+Iron Will instead of Self Care as in most cases (for me) I only use it when I can't find a teammate and Bond helps me find teammates. I like to play around with my perks, too, and I've found I don't need SC.
@Poweas I always have Bond on my build, unless I have another aura reading perk like WoO or I'm playing a character without Bond. It can be quite tense without the perk. xD I rely on its information too much. I haven't been reliant on SC for a while and when I'm going try hard, I'll bring in an instaheal or a strong item. I know I wanted to live as Meg (had a daily) and brought in an instaheal and asked my teammates to bring in BT in case I went down at the end. I believe everyone got out, but it was really tense at the end. The Pig almost got me. It was a lot of fun. c:
@rha Oof, sorry. I took a break and came back to yellow ranks. I don't remember if I allowed other survivors to heal me. I can't remember if I just put up with the missed skill checks or ran from them when too many happened. I'm pretty decent at breaking chase and I'll often get on a gen with a friend, so they often don't target me. xD It's always fun when we run towards the same area and I have to sneak/run to another loop so that they can have a safe-ish area, though.
I actually had a game where a Nea was waving me over from the distance and I thought for sure she had an aura perk like me, but she didn't. Some people are just really perceptive. It's amazing. I was in sight, though. I still need to get Jeff (waiting for a sale), but I'll probably try about a few of his perks after I do. c:
I've been practicing with DH recently. It's a lot of fun to use and has helped me extend my chases I do believe. It can make a difference when barely making a window/pallet. I actually started using it for a similar reason. I was also watching people who use it often to see what they use it for and thought it worked well for those cases.
@Delfador I know recently I was putting different builds on different survivors just to try it out. c: Sounded like it was fun and I had a friend who did that. Most of the time different builds come from a lack of perks or just me goofing off. Like if I get a sabbo daily, I'm sabbo for the next couple of games, typically. Sometimes I just like trying out new builds.
I usually don't use both Bond and WoO as it's too much information for me, though WoO is quite nice for knowing where pallets spawned and if they were used doing the match. My perk builds usually consist of Bond, Iron Will, Dead Hard, Balanced Landing, Leader, Prove Thyself, We'll Make It, Borrowed Time, WGLF, Quick and Quiet, and Prem or Spine Chill. I main stays are typically Bond and Iron Will, though I'll drop Iron Will if I want to do a particular build that requires 3 slots and put on Self Care if I don't have Bond.
@KingB Yeah, AD can be quite nice if you can get your stacks. c: I usually don't put SB on my build as I accidentally use it far too often and I quite like running around.

TragicSolitude said:On PS4, whenever a survivor starts healing me, after tapping me they stop like I moved or something, so then they have to start again. It's really weird. I don't move or do anything, but something interrupts them when they first start healing me.
I've also come across a glitch a couple times where I would heal a survivor, the bar filled and cut off my being able to heal them, but then as they started walking away they were actually still injured. They'd come back to me and I'd have to tap them for the healing to be completed.
Same AF.
My teammates have had to heal me several times because of something interrupting them no matter how still I stay. I also struggle with healing my teammates when I have to keep re-healing them. It's gotten both of us hooked in prior games.Yeah ive ran into this same bug recently in my games too on PC. Ill start healing someone and it just gets interrupted out of nowhere even though they didnt move at all.
Oh, maybe it's related to the bug and not someone moving? I'm not sure tbh

Totally agree.Survivors see a secret offering in the loading screen? Probably a mori: dc!
It would really help with this issue.
I've never had a game where survivors dced in the loading screen because of a mori. Are you sure they just weren't able to connect? There's been a lot of issues with infinite loading screens, etc. recently.
I'm sure. It happens on a regular enough basis.
I just mention it because something may have been broken in the code with the recent updates. I never had the infinite loading screen before to my memory and I had it every three games. There was also a time where every game was missing a person, regardless of what was played.

Alternatively, I should ask. Why should killers be given the chance to catch survivors?Probably because it's the objective of the game. All survivors get caught because of there own errors, not because the game let them.
The killers job is to kill. Not to let you have a free escape because it's 'fair'.
Survivors "job" of the game is to escape. Any way possible. I suppose that would mean looping until all gens are done is free game, too? Maybe add on adrenaline for good measure. Survivor's job is to survive, after all. I'm not even saying to stop.
A doctor standing next to the hook doesnt require any skill yes, but if the survivors are stupid enough to still rush the hook, then they are even less skilled.
I'm surrounded by potatoes.
Just kidding. I'm just suggesting to reward killers more for venturing off. Someone I watch often was lamenting over the fact that he was playing "fair" (hooking everyone twice) and was still unlikely to pip as it wasn't rewarding. I just think it should be more rewarding to spread the pain, I guess. I've also been told by campers that they camp 'cause it's easy to pip. I dunno the truth behind that as I don't camp myself, though.Nah camping is not a good strategy if you want to pip. But we need an actual gameplay incentive to leave the hook and chase a fresh survivor, for example global gendebuff for fresh hooks or sth like that. The rank system is uttelry pointless
Like, for instance, gens would have a damaged affect applied to them upon finding a new victim? I'd be up for something like that. Oh, what do you think of if camping and tunneling a survivor doesn't see any impact to the gens, but action speeds will be slowed if you're away from the hooked, chasing after someone new from your last hook (or, if no hooks, just chasing someone). That way it may give killers more time to catch survivors, too. Yeah, I know, though I still think it should positively impact rank and points to change up victims and stuff. It could be like an added benefit. Like the strawberry on top of the cake.

Well the advantage you get from not-tunneling needs to be significant, othwerwise tunneling will be the better option.
Sadly the survivor community will never let such an idea pass since it would basically buff killers
You would think they would see it'd be beneficial in the long run.

I think he's fine and can be a lot of fun to face.

Couldn't we just add more worthwhile offerings that are different from the current secret ones? If you have it hidden from the screen all together, people may think you're cheating. It already confuses some newbies when you go and mori them with a perk, after all.

When I complain about camping and tunneling, it's typically because it's unreasonable or lazy. For instance, I've had one too many doctors hook me or someone else and just like chill by the hook with no one nearby, waiting for someone foolish enough to approach for a save. That tactic works wonders on solo play or with randoms in a group of SWF as you can't be like "he's camping, do gens." If they catch someone very early on and decide to camp or if it's a three vs one and they decide to camp, it leaves a bad taste in my mouth. You expect it in certain situations (end game, everyone's visible and nearby/swarming, etc.) and I'd venture to say it's okay when addressing toxic behavior. My worry is what others have echoed. It doesn't benefit the killer to switch targets and play "fair" as much as it should and it should benefit the killer less to just chill by the hook, waiting for survivors to come to them. I like being a driving force in the game when I'm killer. I don't usually camp, except when gates are open and only sometimes.
He probably didnt see anyone on BBQ, so he assumes everyone is nearby. I still dont understand why the BBQ aura was nerfed this much
I remember a while ago, it happened to someone I was playing with while I was solo. The killer got mad at me 'cause I worked on gens instead of going for the save while everyone else was trying to dive bomb the hook. I don't remember what rank I was at the time. Recently, it happened in the green ranks, around 10 or 9 I think. I'm usually higher up (took a break from the game) and it may work well around those ranks, I'm not sure.
I know what you mean, though. BBQ didn't need to be nerfed so much. I honestly don't think lockers should have been buffed.
Of course there are always some special snowflakes.
But since the aura nerf I have seen me regularly in the situation where nobody lights up on BBQ and I have no target, so I stick closer to the hook than I would do usuallyWe need them for our special snowmen lol
Imo lockers shouldn't hide auras. At least with a perk, you're giving up another perk to use it. It's a bit too strong to just be default. I think it's create poor plays from survivor side, too. It's a weak strat to jump into a locker to hide and as you suggested, makes killers think there may be people waiting nearby for the save.
