Alternatively, I should ask. Why should killers be given the chance to catch survivors?

Probably because it's the objective of the game. All survivors get caught because of there own errors, not because the game let them.

The killers job is to kill. Not to let you have a free escape because it's 'fair'.

Survivors "job" of the game is to escape. Any way possible. I suppose that would mean looping until all gens are done is free game, too? Maybe add on adrenaline for good measure. Survivor's job is to survive, after all. I'm not even saying to stop. I'm saying that if you're doing something that takes skill, you should be rewarded for it. A doctor standing next to someone with his hand out isn't really skilled play. Someone hanging around nearby just to immediately down the person if they're unhooked isn't really skilled play, either. I'm not saying there isn't times that call for such methods. I'm just saying it's boring. I'd get bored if I did that as killer.

Why do you only take a portion of what I post and omit the rest of it btw? Genuinely wondering.

A doctor standing next to the hook doesnt require any skill yes, but if the survivors are stupid enough to still rush the hook, then they are even less skilled.

I'm surrounded by potatoes. D: Just kidding. I'm just suggesting to reward killers more for venturing off. Someone I watch often was lamenting over the fact that he was playing "fair" (hooking everyone twice) and was still unlikely to pip as it wasn't rewarding. I just think it should be more rewarding to spread the pain, I guess. I've also been told by campers that they camp 'cause it's easy to pip. I dunno the truth behind that as I don't camp myself, though.

When I complain about camping and tunneling, it's typically because it's unreasonable or lazy. For instance, I've had one too many doctors hook me or someone else and just like chill by the hook with no one nearby, waiting for someone foolish enough to approach for a save. That tactic works wonders on solo play or with randoms in a group of SWF as you can't be like "he's camping, do gens." If they catch someone very early on and decide to camp or if it's a three vs one and they decide to camp, it leaves a bad taste in my mouth. You expect it in certain situations (end game, everyone's visible and nearby/swarming, etc.) and I'd venture to say it's okay when addressing toxic behavior.

My worry is what others have echoed. It doesn't benefit the killer to switch targets and play "fair" as much as it should and it should benefit the killer less to just chill by the hook, waiting for survivors to come to them. I like being a driving force in the game when I'm killer. I don't usually camp, except when gates are open and only sometimes.

He probably didnt see anyone on BBQ, so he assumes everyone is nearby. I still dont understand why the BBQ aura was nerfed this much

I remember a while ago, it happened to someone I was playing with while I was solo. The killer got mad at me 'cause I worked on gens instead of going for the save while everyone else was trying to dive bomb the hook. I don't remember what rank I was at the time. Recently, it happened in the green ranks, around 10 or 9 I think. I'm usually higher up (took a break from the game) and it may work well around those ranks, I'm not sure.

I know what you mean, though. BBQ didn't need to be nerfed so much. I honestly don't think lockers should have been buffed.

  • Perks can help with weakness a killer may have, though I think they all should be made to be around A tier. Nothing too crazy, but strong enough to address the game. There shouldn't be killers people avoid playing 'cause they're weak and people should be able to choose killers based on the type of play style they like and not who can handle sweaty survivors best.

To what? What to do instead? Switch targets and if they unhook behind you, just down them and go after the unhooker, letting the person have the chance to get back up. It puts pressure on someone to have to go and get them up while you're chasing the next person who's often already injured if you notice them running for it. If there isn't anyone immediately nearby, pressure gens and chase people. Like I said before, I wish they rewarded "fair" play more and tunneling and camping less.

Oh, you're funny. I didn't realize you were the sort who liked things handed out to you. All I'm suggesting is a redistribution of points to encourage a more varied play that isn't so brain dead and easy. Anyone can camp, especially with a group of solo players who can't communicate. It takes real talent to take out a whole team, switching survivors as you go. Last time I checked, asking for it to be more rewarding for a more challenging, varied playstyle wasn't the same as asking for a "handed victory" and whatnot.

And you guys act like survivors are the only ones who expect/hope for certain things from a decent player. If I'm in rank 1, why would I want to face campers? The gameplay is uninspiring and boring. I want to have a challenging match against someone who can actually play, not someone who was handed their kills because people don't know when not to go for a save. Similarly, I'd prefer there to be less people who farm and are generally toxic in the higher ranks.

Alternatively, I should ask. Why should killers be given the chance to catch survivors? It goes both ways. They may have went around a god loop all match, but it was clearly your fault that you couldn't catch them. Same mentality. "Fair" play goes for both sides.

  • @CronaWins said:

Like I said before, I wish they rewarded "fair" play more and tunneling and camping less.

'Playing fair' is a rule in the Survivors Handbook of Made-up Rules.

Killers have all the power and they dictate how the game is going to play out, not the survivors, and they need to understand that. Too many survivors think they control the game when they don't. If you get caught, the only person you can blame is yourself, not the killer.

"Survivor Handbook" 'cause the only one wanting the game to play out a certain way is survivors. Killers have just about as much control of survivors and tell me why exactly killers should get buffs if they're just going to camp anyway? 'Cause it's easy and brain dead and rewarding to do so. Also part of the survivor handbook: no teabagging, ds, don't loop strong spots, etc. Since, y'know. Survivors are clearly the only one who make rules to play nicely with each other, right?

All I'm saying is brain dead/lazy methods shouldn't be more rewarding than methods that are actually challenging and take talent. c: That's all. Doesn't matter what kind of main you are, that much should be apparent.

  • I thought they were going to do that when they made the changes. Maybe they just haven't yet? But I agree, it should be rewarded for safe unhooks and not just any unhooks.

we already saw that Tru3t4l3nt got to rank 1 as survivor without perks. so if you're good you can get at rank 1 with only some perks and buddies.

so what you X mains think?

That isn't exactly a fair comparison. You have to realize part of a variable are the person, themselves. He also got to rank 1 as killer without any perks. Still, I think limiting the perk slots like that may be a bit much. I've seen others suggesting limiting perks (only one per group, for instance) and I think that's a good idea. Otherwise, buffing solo survivor to be on the same level of SWF and buffing killer to address both could also be a good option. Like make it easier to communicate between randoms/solos and give more reason to care more people get out.

For instance, survival points could be linked to how many people get out or you could take more of a hit for just letting everyone die and taking the hatch (with altruism). I honestly just want more points for survival. xD In a good match, you'll only get 5k and typically you get nothing. It makes the offering related to survival kinda pointless imo.

Every perk that daddy Jeff AKA fat jesus has is godly on solo survivor, i highly reccomend them

I still prefer Bond to After Care, but his other two are quite nice. I'm not really asking what build I should use as mine works fine for me. I'm just curious on what people tend to have while they're playing solo. c:

  • They're rare in the web and doesn't really give you BP bonus like the last one did. So, it isn't worthwhile to get them and it isn't easy to get them without wasting all your points. I honestly only wanted the Huntress Axe and Feng's head. Idc about any of the other ones and don't really want to waste my points.

  • @amaru1 Yeah, that's more than likely it. Killers are pressured on time and if you waste a lot of time, you'll end up pissing them off. While looping, look for opportunities to lose the killer. If they chase you for a good portion of the match, they're going to want you dead. I believe I heard someone said that it's their reward for the long chase or something like that. Can't remember who. If they're wasting so much time on you, you want to get away or lose them any way you can. Iron Will can help, too, so that you're quiet if you're injured and Prem can help in knowing where the killer is coming from (unless they're tier 1 Myers). It isn't really necessary if you keep sight of the killer (peeking around corners and walking/crawling out of sight).

Well, it's really more likely that you were just the first person they saw and happened to do something to tick them off (looping strong stuff, running around pallets without throwing, etc.). If you have room on your build, I would also suggest putting on Bond and finding teammates to work on gens with. If you're with another person, there's a chance they'll go after them instead of you. @Orion is right about it being difficult to know for sure why they're tunneling and camping without knowing their perspective, too, though. We can only guess.

It's no problem. c: If you said you didn't bm, I believe you. People have many reasons as to why the camp and tunnel someone. It isn't always related to being rude or purposefully doing something to irritate them. Quick and Quiet can help with sneaky window jukes. OH and if you're collecting those lights, don't. Pretty sure it makes you more visable and they may have more of a reason to chase after you.

    Kindred, Bond, Open-Handed, Small Game

Aftercare does have prerequisites, yeah, and yeah sometimes it can be a pain to get rolling. Especially because it resets after you get hooked. IMO that function should be taken away and it would be a much better perk. I just really like it because it shows the aura of the survivor you heal as well as your aura to them if they don't run aura perks themselves. Plus it applies to the person or people that heal you off the hook too, so you could get downed first and still get at least some use out of it. It's helped me get a lot of people out safely because they saw me opening the exit gate from across the map with it.

It's just up to preference really. Each has their upsides and downsides. Mine takes a while to get rolling but has global presence, while Vietfox's has no prerequisites but doesn't relay information to others and lacks extreme range.

Bond can be used to sandbag and troll as well, so can Empathy. I don't really think that should be a factor in your perk decision, but that's just me

Yeah, I don't think it should reset after hooks. It should last the entire match imo. Having people being able to see you does have up sides if someone needs heals, wants to jump on a gen with a teammate, or needs to find the gate. What I was mentioning was that it makes it easier for someone to sandbag you if they don't have those perks already. Though I don't usually get sandbagged like that. Sometimes someone will lead the killer to where I'm working on a gen, but I can see them coming with bond and it usually isn't that much of an issue.

But it is ruining my games when this happens to me I can’t do anything if I’m camped or targeted 😕

My personal favorite is Aftercare, Empathy, We'll Make It, and Small Game.

Though I'm pretty sure Vietfox's solo build is better in general. I'm just usually the person getting hook saves so this appeals to me.

What's Vietfox's build? I don't have Aftercare, unfortunately, though I think I'd still stick with Bond. You don't have to do anything special to be able to see people around you and that allows me to find someone to heal me, find the injured person in case they need healing, or just find someone to work on gens with. I've seen survivors sandbagging other survivors with aftercare, too, when they wouldn't have seen them otherwise. So, I'm a bit iffy about that. It's 50/50 on if I'm the one getting the save. Some games, everyone's getting saves and I just sit on gens 'cause someone has to.

  • You went and did objectives as he watched the hatch. It's honestly his own fault for the game going as long as it did and you can't really hold the game hostage on either side when it comes to a hatch stand off. You both can make a move, after all.

@fluffybunny my name was dragon 😂 I was playing feng 🤔 I know it’s impossible to know but I was wondering if it’s happened to anyone else or if I’m missing a reason why else a killer would do that

Well, it probably isn't either of those. It may be due to recent buffs to gen rushing (even though killers were complaining about gen times) or you were just wasting too much of the killer time. I believe killers can get annoyed when you use certain perks or loop them around the map (especially without wasting too many pallets). You weren't pointing or waving either, right? That can also be BM depending on the context.

  • What was your name? Was it gimmicky or rude/strange? I'd say your chosen character may also impact how the killer behaves sometimes, though you wouldn't have so many in a row who also happened to all dislike Dwight, for instance. So, it likely isn't that. You could just be unlucky, too, and running into killers who are legit bad and rely on survivors making massive mistakes to get multiple kills and pip. It's really hard to say without asking them, though.

It's hard to say sometimes as there's only one real 'emote' while one is on the hook. Personally, I'll twitch if killer is nearby and grab at the hook when no one's coming for save. People will run for the hook/start heading over when you start grabbing at the hook from what I've found. Generally speaking, of course. I've seen people do it for all kinds of reasons, though. I'll also twitch if the person is about to run into a trap. You typically get one person who's hungry for points, though, which is disappointing. It makes it so that the killer is rewarded for lazy gameplay and yes, chilling by the hooked and not seeking out your victim is lazy. I wish less survivors would reward it.

I wouldn't say lazy, it's more braindead. Only people that hard camp while every survivor is working on gens are the new players that want a kill. Nets you no bp and you always lose.

I've seen people like that in purple ranks. :/ Of course we did have someone on our team feeding into it, so he was able to get everyone. Too bad, really. I'd still rather seek out my prey rather than have them come to me, though.

While I could venture and say farming and suiciding may not be against the rules (I know they do have farming in the rules, but I believe that is regards to screwing over your team), DCing is clearly against the rules. Still farming and suiciding can indicate skill or lack there of in a situation that shouldn't have happened organically. That happens out of boredom or ill will. A survivor messing up is organic gameplay, though, and therefore someone feeding the killer kills due to lack of information or an over assumption of their own skill isn't misleading to the game's stats. EDIT: @PiiFree I thought I quoted you, but guess not.

DCing per se is not against the rules, it's a matter of how often you DC. The moment the ban hammer hits is the moment the devs consider the frequency of DCs to be a problem. IIRC, it's at around 40-50% at the moment? That's the DC tolerance the devs allow until they consider it to be "against the rules" and therefore punish players for doing so.

I surely agree that a survivor messing up is normal and part of the game, just like Killers messing up is normal. I think I made it clear enough that typical mistakes are not part of the problem but pointlessly feeding kills (or letting survivors escape) can have a negative impact regarding balance.

Maybe that's the difference between competitive players (or tryhards) and casuals. It would be interesting to see how the game would evolve if escaping was of greater value. It's not a big part with the current emblem system, which is why I'm confused why they use escape ratios to represent balance. It's not something Survivors desperately try to achieve, but the devs use those stats it as if it was all about escaping. Maybe those stats were more accurate if getting killed = depip and escape = pip, but that's not the case.

Accidental DC isn't against the rules, but it IS under unsportsmanlike conduct. They should do more to punish it imo. It completely ruins the game for everyone else left in the match. Other games have wait times to discourage DCing, I'm pretty sure. I've heard about that from elsewhere. Otherwise just resetting the lobby and keeping your offerings would also be a nice fix if someone DCs at the very start or can't connect due to the loading screen freezing, etc.

I still play competitively, I just also play for fun and I just don't consider it a "win" if only one person leaves and does so through the hatch. The hatch is a boring mechanic and often a free win for survivor and most of the time the best player doesn't even get the hatch. It's the person who's afking next to it and hiding when things look bleak that does. That's just my opinion.

I honestly don't think it'd be a good idea to make being killed = depipping, either. I don't think it'd make for fun games. Skill isn't really something easily measured in games like this. There's so many things to account for, such as the skills of allies, what others are doing, etc. If they HAD to live to get pips, they'd be more likely to play SWF and bring in the OP perks (hi, DS) and the really good items. It'd probably make for more selfish players, too. And anyone who plays survivor would cry about their survival rate as it actually would account for more than leaving with an item, doing a daily, and getting gold/silver/iridescent.

  • While I could venture and say farming and suiciding may not be against the rules (I know they do have farming in the rules, but I believe that is regards to screwing over your team), DCing is clearly against the rules.

Pft, well, if I were to just camp hatch, you might as well get a 4k. I'm being useless, then. My altruistic actions are typically dependent on the scenario, but I'm quick to defend and protect other survivors. I'll block the way or gain aggro so that they may have a chance to recover and do things. I am well aware that there are many survivors who are super selfish and would avoid taking aggro, even if that means someone getting on their last hook and being short one extra person to loop or do gens. If the killer camps with gens left, I'll dedicate myself to gens in the hope to get as many people out as possible. It makes it hard with others try to go for saves and essentially farms the hooked survivor, though. But might as well try to see if you can sneak closer and get the downed survivor up. With how they changed the healing on the ground, the survivor is typically just a short tap away from getting up again.

I'd say it depends on the amount of gens required for the gates to be open and what Killer you're up against.

1-2 gens? Sure worth a try. 3 gens? Against a Nurse? Nah, we'll never make it out together, in that case it's always better to make sure at least one Survivor escapes to not feed unnecessary deaths that just mislead the k/d ratio stats.

I've started to become very strict in that regard and always try to avoid handing out free kills, as those lead to match results that don't represent the actual performance. I mainly do that because the devs put so much weight on kill / escape ratios without considering cases where survivors feed kills because of pointless altruism.

Survivors feeding deaths is part of the k/d ratio stats, though. It isn't to mislead. If we want to talk about something misleading the stats, let's talk about matches where killers farm or survivors kill off their team by farming. Let's talk about the DS missing their DS and suiciding on the hook or DCing. Let's talk about DCs. Someone attempting to go for saves and accidentally feeding the killer kills isn't misleading; it's part of the stats and is intended to be part of it.

I will say when it's 3 gens left, it's most of the time to get as many points as you can before the last person alive can maybe get the hatch.

  • I generally don't tunnel or camp and who I mori is random, typically. I'd say they may "earn" those things if they're overly toxic towards me or their allies, though that's only if I feel like it.

  • @lasombra1979 said:
They dont. I dont face camp and tunneling is a means to an end, removing said player from game. Its a game, I dont take the actions of a survivor personal so I dont feel the need to "punish" a survivor for toxic behavior. Unless you are a Dwight, I loathe all Dwights.

    Dwights are precious. Shhh.

I don't get survivors like that. It is either you die, or both of you die. Why the [BAD WORD] would you go and get them up?
If it is 2v1 and the hatch can spawn, the person on the ground is dead. I wouldn't expect a save, and I wouldn't save vice versa.

I've had games where the killer and a survivor was obviously teaming together. It isn't common, but it does happen and sucks when it does. It's against the rules 'cause the survivor can often see where the survivor is, especially when downed. Killer can only occasionally do so with perks and certain situations. I was SWF with a friend and watched someone with OoO get downed and point the killer in the right direction to go and find my friend.

Sorry they cussed you out, though. It's uncalled for.

Yes, that happens, but that's not what the other guy meant.

When I play Killer and I want to let a specific guy escape, I usually slug them and hunt the last one down. Then I hook the last guy and let the slugged guy wiggle free to get the hatch. That may look like we worked together but in reality I just thought this survivor deserved the hatch while the other guy didn't deserve it at all. I don't know them, but during the match I built up a sympathy towards one of them, maybe because they had an amusing playstyle or maybe they just tried really hard.

I do this quite often and many Survivors confuse it with "teaming up to kill the last survivor" which is not the case. I just don't want to kill a specific Suvrivor because I think they deserve the hatch :)

Did he give context on what happened? I think I asked a bit back, but I may have missed a post. I get that and I think it's perfectly reasonable to give one person the hatch over another. If they get to the point where you can choose who gets hatch, they're at your mercy, after all. I once had a killer let both me and an Ace go 'cause he found us amusing. I'll sometimes give a survivor the hatch over another 'cause they played me well or because I like their character. I get what you mean, though. Sometimes you just connect with how a person plays and what they do and feel sympathy towards one.

@AdánAR I don't know if you're baiting or not but you're being such a hypocrite. You're mocking killers because they "cry" too much but looking at your posts you seem to be the one crying right now. I don't know why you stick to the "Killer vs Survivor" mentality because it's not healthy for the community and you keep saying "You don't know me kid?" well that right there nulls your point in constantly calling people killer mains because you don't know them either, makes sense right?

You're literally complaining about Franklin's saying it's pathetic but what do survivors always say to killers who complain about items? Use Franklins! But when we end up using it we're pathetic?

You are clearly biased towards survivor and I'm going to say this like I say to everyone else: Perks are designed so you CAN use them, in my opinion using DS is pathetic because it's a get out of jail free card but I've never made a post on here about it because it's a perk, why shouldn't the survivors use it when it's made for them?

I second this. Toxicity breeds more toxicity and there's no point and being hostile and putting people on sides, regardless of if they're 100% on that side.

I'll be 100% honest: I've pointed out a fellow survivor out before while slugged. Reason being, this individual constantly fast vaulted through windows around me, dropped pallets in my vicinity, purposefully failed skill checks around me, and farmed pretty much everyone on our team. Don't know what I did to piss in this guy's Cheerios, but enough was enough for me as I was slugged and bleeding out on the ground. It's not something I generally do and two wrongs don't make a right. That said I took a fair amount of pleasure watching the killer rip that prick out of a locker...

Good. There is no rule that survivors must work together...one of the many unintended down sides of swf.

I feel that survivors organically working together OR turning against each other is the way this game was intended to be played.

Well, I wouldn't say turning against each other, but being selfish definitely is okay. It isn't fun when killers farm you.

Farming can be beneficial for both survivors and killers.

In a killers defense, it is VERY hard to put up that flag. When one or two survivors dc, I can try but some.survivors can't see the attempt to farm....we.can back away or nod, but it is very hard to communicate that I want to farm.

If it comes down to a survivor telling me where the other survivor is, once downed, I will take it 10/10 times (why wouldn't i?). Then, whether I k that downed survivor or not depends how many beers I had and how generous I feel.

Yeah, I meant when survivors take you off right in front of the killer to get free points and get you out of the game fast. It can completely throw a match when a survivor decides they don't like you or your name and therefore sandbagging and farming is the "appropriate" option. Sorry, I was loading into a match and wanted to say it quickly and ended up using the wrong word.

It is a lot easier for survivors to signify wanting to farm, though. Usually as killer if I get two people, I'll hit gens and nod and sometimes they pick up on it, but a lot of times they still act super scared.

Honestly with people like you, I wish the the hatch was more of a game of skill rather than a first come first serve. You leave your survivors on the ground and sneak off to the hatch with your tail between your legs and expect them to be happy with you? Also, coming out of the locker and shaking your head could have been seen as bming. Whether you decide to help people or not is on you, but don't be surprised when that return that behavior and aren't too happy with you. Whether you like it or not, this is a team game. Otherwise you wouldn't be able to see each other on the hook or on the ground. You wouldn't have a shared objective. It mentions surviving together or not most likely as a caveat. If you play selfishly, you'll likely be your team's own downfall.

Sounds like someone doesn't like how the situation played out. Let me get some clear to you, i already apologized to the person i let die on the hook, i told him i had no choice and i would expect that if the situation were reversed, he would do the same thing to me. So don't come telling me how i played stupid and cowardly when everyone on my team was down 3 mins into the match, who was i going to be able to save? How could i have been able to save anyone in that span of time, get someone off the hook, avoid the huntress, pick someone off the ground and then go save the other person off the hook, in that span of time the huntress could have seen me, dropped the body she was carrying and it would have been a 4k, And whether you like it or not, This isn't a team game to me, it may be a team game to you and your friends, but that isn't how i play. Deal with it.

Huntress, right? You can hear her hum and hide around objects to get to the survivors downed. I've been in a similar situation and was able to get everyone up and we were able to play the game through just fine. Were they all downed in the same spot and didn't move? I can understand leaving them if that's the case. I still don't consider it much of a win when only one person gets out and I usually play solo. Many people who play SWF don't give a crap about what happens to the randoms, too. It's just only a "team" game for their friends in a call. It's annoying to come across selfish play styles (like farming the hook, running away/sandbagging and not taking a hit). I've been injured and had someone healing me when the killer came up and they blocked me running instead of getting between me and the killer so that I could make it to a pallet or run him a bit longer. They were full health. People lasting longer means more chance of a pip and more points. It's also much easier to do stuff on the map with 3/4 people than 1/2.

See how important it is to at least ask for details, they were all downed near each other and i knew for a fact The Huntress had Nurses, so even if i went for a heal, she would have seen our aura, then drop the body, and then take me and the injured person out. I could not make the effort to go for the save and then pick someone up as someone is getting hooked. Not only that, but that Huntress had some damn good aim, even if i managed to pick someone up, she could have then turned and thrown a hatchet at the person i just picked up. It was one of those decisions i had to make, am i proud of it? no. But at the end of the day i would rather live than die for strangers, And i would expect them to do the same for me.

You could have given that detail in the initial post. That's different then, though. It may be worth it if they were a tap or if they crawled away, but still basically game over at that point. A lot of Huntresses are really good at aim, I've found. Sometimes those kinds of things happen, though.

Don't know if anyone has posted this before but here goes.
SWF Ranking is kind of messed up, I see it all the time on streams where they are playing SWF and are matched with a killer who gets destroyed because they're going against red ranks.

My Suggestion is, instead of an overall average of ranks which i think is the case now, have the group match to a killer of the highest rank in the group?
That might seem a bit harsh but to be fair, SWF are already unbalanced.
_ (Knowing where the killer is all the time, Knowing when to hide, what gens have been kicked/ are being worked on, Where the totems are if one survivor has seen, who's going to save from hooks, when to distract the killer, Where traps are placed, what pallets have been used... ect..)_

This has been suggested before and I'm still up for it. You shouldn't have an easier match just because some people are higher ranks. I've also seen people suggest limiting perks for SWF (so a team can't have two DS if they're SWF) and having an increased ranking for swf.
