  • As for me, it depends. I play little solo survivor, but when I do, I usually stay and watch if I wasn't sacrificed too early, and/or if my teammates played so well I actually want to see if they win. If I got matched with potatoes or I got tunneled at the beginning and the game will last too much longer I just leave. I also leave if the killer is so skilled that it's clear no one is making it to the exit gates, or if everyone is slugged and the result has already been decided, lol.

  • What do you mean by "genrushing"? Because if you mean all survs carrying BNP in strong toolboxes and built to last and all that bullshit, sure. But survivors being efficient is not genrushing. Take, for example, you're chasing one guy and the other three are on gens. Suppose three gens pop right after you hook him. Is that genrushing? If the chase took the 80 seconds that those gens take to complete, then it's not. You just weren't putting pressure on those survivors. Don't get me wrong, it can be very difficult to put pressure on many survs at the same time, specially with some of the weaker killers. But that's a matter of killers being weak, not of survivors genrushing.

My point here is: if, as a survivor, you have an entire build based on genrushing + toolbox with BNP + don't heal your hooked teammates, barely take the time to unhook them and then return to gens, then yes, I believe that is called genrushing and it is equal to tunneling. Going out of your way to get the advantage as quickly as possible, either by erasing one dude from the game, or by getting gens done so fast that the killer has barely the time to maybe hook one guy or two. On purpose.

However, let's imagine a different case. Imagine the 4 survs are running DS + UB + DH + BT (to mention a pretty standard build that we actually see often). No intention of slamming gens as fast as the previous group I mentioned. Some medkits, a flashlight, maybe one toolbox. You are chasing one dude. What are the rest supposed to do? Wander around the map looking at textures? Absolutely not. They will be on gens. And this is not equal to tunneling, in my opinion. It's survivors doing the one thing they have to do. Equal to this would be the killer getting downs and hooks quickly. Not specifically tunneling one guy out of the match. Just doing the objective efficiently, without going out of your way to take advantage of the strategy that will get the match finished the fastest way possible.

This is what I believe at least.

  • I win as long as 3 people escape. It doesn't matter if /I/ escape or not.

I play more Survivor than Killer, so my post is not intended as a Survivor based attack. I'm just genuinely curious what sorts of gameplay the community would expect at this point both from the developer standpoint and the gameplay counterplay from Killers in general. It feels like a weird kind of Stockholm Syndrome where other Survivors loathe just sitting on gens but don't seem to want to have to do anything else.

I am not sure what the mindset is. I don't think my opinion is valid in this arena, as I am sitting at 228 hours as of this post and some people have thousands upon thousands and that alters game expectations.

No no don't worry, I didn't read it as an attack, I think your post is not worded like an attack ^^ I'm just giving my personal input as a (mostly) survivor main.

Like you said, some people are so contradictory that the moment you mention secondary objectives (whether it's the ones that are already in the game, like the ones you mentioned, or a new secondary objective that the devs have been contemplating to add at the beginning of the match) they make this big fuss and complain. But then the alternative would be making gens take longer to complete, and that would be boring as hell, something that I feel most survivor mains agree with.

    So... who knows. Lol.

  • Survivor main here and you do have a point. Personally, what I find a bit busted from NOED is that it sometimes grants bad killers a lot of hooks they do not deserve to get. The same way that sometimes second chance perks carry bad survivors, absolutely. I don't mind doing totems, I will go and do them all every match if I can. But it's so frustrating when you manage to loop a killer all match only to get hit right when the last gen pops and go down immediately, not to mention be instantly facecamped. In SWF this is bearable because you can push your teammates to do totems and find NOED. But solo Q is hell, you usually get potato teammates that don't even know what a bone is. For that I blame matchmaking + the fact that the game never encourages you to do totems (it's not mentioned in the tutorial, they're never presented as a secondary objective, etc).

As for the rest, you're right. I don't personally mind anything else that you mentioned in this list, but there are survivors who will complain about these things. Hopefully they're just a very loud minority.

  • Demogorgon's is SUCH A BOP. I also love Pyramid Head's because I'm a huge SH fan and anything that Akira Yamaoka produces I love.

And honorable mentions to Blight's & Twins', they are the greatest completely original themes imo. Blight's has this melancholic vibe that I just love, and the Twins' has this instrument like... a music box? a xylophone??? I don't know what it is but I LOVE IT.

  • I hate being face-camped or tunneled, but that's a gameplay style choice and at the end of the day it's a game. Throwing slurs around in the EG chat is much more toxic than anything you can do in game, both as killer and as survivor.

  • OoO is bullshit and should be changed entirely into something else.

  • Forgot to give my opinion when making the poll, lol. For me it's Plague, for various reasons, but the main ones are her attire, which looks on point for her backstory, and also those chantings she makes in the lobby + in her mori animation. There's also how she seems to be rotting from the disease, and the incense she carries around, which is accurate and very unique. She's just peak design imo.

Spirit and Doctor come next. Spirit depicts what she went through amazingly imo, the fact that her limbs are completely separated from the rest of her body is extremely on point, and the designers managed to mix that with the usual Japanese theme of the lady with long, black hair that we usually see in Japanese horror movies. Doctor, on the other hand, is absolutely grotesque, specially once you learn his lore. He has one of the most disturbing and scariest designs imo.

Honorable mentions to Oni, who is terrifying and has an extremely unique design, and Huntress, whose lullaby manages to be melancholic and spine chill inducing at the same time.

Could they make a child killer though? They can't make teen or child survivors because they get hurt, so would they legally be able to make a teen or child killer? Killers get hurt during the match as well, but it's not that graphic.

Yep I do wonder the same thing. They might not be able to...

  • DS is not OP, survivors take advantage of it in a way they shouldn't be able to. I feel there's a slight difference there. DS + UB is what is truly OP. DS by itself isn't as scary.

You know what is an actually OP survivor perk? Object of Obsession.

I don't think there are any OP perks for killer. NOED seems undeservingly strong to me, but it has counterplay so yeah. BBQ is strong but not OP. Undying in its current state does a little too much in my opinion, but it's being nerfed to the ground so meh.

    That I did.

Though, imagine if this is what she looked like in-game.

To be fair I wouldn't mind a killer that is sort of a feral child LMAO something like Victor but like an actual murderous kid that does not look like a gremlin

Well her mother stopped schooling her when she died, so I imagine that Ana doesn't understand sex or relationships.

You're definitely right about this 🤔 but she still looks hot af

Huntress is a no-no for me because she effectively stopped developing mentally at the age of seven. She is quite physically attractive though.

Did she though? Like I know she has some issues going on, but afaik she doesn't have the mind of a child, she actually tries to act like a "mother" to the little girls she kidnaps (and miserably fails, of course).

  • Hello???? Have any of y'all seen Huntress??? HELLO????

Plague is a close second. Then goes Julie.

And then Pyramid Head and Michael because although I'm a lesbian they're thicc and are way beyond gender™.

  • Hopefully RE, but I'm happy with whatever new license we get.

  • I like the current ones, but I'm not against the new ones. I think they look better!

  • Bald Dwight best Dwight.

  • Twins and Blight, I rarely see them. However, when I face a Blight they usually play REALLY well so I often die lmao.

And Plague. If it weren't because /I/ play Plague, I would probably forget she exists.

  • I want more killers like Doctor honestly. Killers that can shut down loops if they time their power right.

I do not want more mobility killers since there's too many of them and they usually play vary similar to each other. And no more insta down killers.

I don't personally mind more stealth or ranged killers.

  • As for me, it's Doctor. I started playing as him to farm bloodpoints, since he's easily the best killer to do it, and omg is he fun! Plus the way he laughs is funny lmao

  • Can anyone show me Legion with one of the SH rabbit heads and literally any other torso/knife cosmetics PLEASE I will love you forever

  • Ninja Myers is the scariest thing in the entire game. So many jumpscares!

  • I'm Argentinian so I don't know anything about those states tbh

  • I like your ideas, number would need a bit of tweaking, specially that 5% haste, but I like the idea behind it.

  • I used to like Jonathan more than Steve when I finished season 1, but later Steve becomes way more interesting and Jonathan way more dull imo. Hence Steve is more popular.

It doesn't reward killers for being bad. It punishes survivors for gen rushing. It makes the killer be down 1 perk the entire game until gens are done.

Like I tell all that complain about NOED. Cleanse some totems on the way around the map.

I was on yesterday and as soon as I unhooked a guy, I got downed with NOED. The killer was camping so I told the other 3 to exit and not even bother. It really isn't difficult to counter NOED.

It punishes survivors for genrushing? So it punishes survivors for doing their objective? Interesting. 🤔

I'm not even against NOED, but that's some interesting reasoning you got there.

And don't "totems are an objective too" me because the game doesn't even show you totems in the tutorial nor in the HUD. If they were such an important objective for survivors, they would show up on either of those places. I'm saying this as someone who tries to cleanse all totems every match, even if I have to do it by myself.

That first statement right there is your problem.

I don't remember the last time I bought a game like Call of Duty or some other game where I go against other people on literal opposite teams and thought "Man, I hope I can make this fun for the other team!".

Survivors ultimately don't play so killers can enjoy the game. They don't give a ######### if you have a good time. All they want to do is emulate their favorite streamer who whines about killer builds while using every second chance in the book, and thinks dead hard takes "skill" while NOED should be nerfed.

Stop regarding survivor feelings. Play to win.Your job is to kill them. That's your objective. It's literally in the name. "Killer".

Trust me, you'll have more fun when you play for YOUR fun, and not theirs. You don't owe them a good time.

I haven't told anyone in this thread anything about how they should play the game, so I don't understand why I have people telling me how I should play it.

I haven't played COD so I can't make a comparison with it. But I have played Overwatch. And the difference between this game and Overwatch is that the latter is not an asymmetrical game, and is much more balanced and well designed than DBD. DBD is full of design problems that players can take advantage of to make the other side miserable.

I will not do that. I hate it when it's done to me. I hate it when the game is unenjoyable to me, because if I buy a game it's to have fun. So I will not do what I find unfun to others. That's my decision and I would rather not have people telling me I should experience the game any other way.

That being said, it is indeed a game, and if you choose to play that way, I have nothing to say against it. You do you. Go for it.

This post was only a vent + a small remark on what tunneling is and what it is not. That's all it was. I appreciate that some people took the time to read the whole thing and provide their insight on how I should be playing instead, but it's just not how I want to play.

  • I think NOED is a bit unfair but if your teammates leave you to die instead of try finding the totem that's on them, not on the killer.

I usually try to cleanse all totems during my matches, specially if I don't know the four perks the killer is running or if they seem to be struggling or letting gens go easily. In some maps it's a pain in the ass (indoor maps), but I find it quite easy to achieve in most of the other maps. You can even run Detective's Hunch to make it easier.

  • I faced a Hillbilly who moved at chainsaw speed without using the chainsaw, and some friends faced a Spirit who could down two people that weren't even close to each other (?) with a single hit to one of them lmao.

  • The game crashed for me yesterday when it almost NEVER crashes, so maybe??? It was only one time so idk really, but it almost never happens to me so...

  • His only power is invisibility, like that's his ENTIRE power, and yet I have a harder time spotting Ghostface or Pig from afar than spotting him. The recent buff to his invisibility doesn't seem great, either. So yeah.

  • I would give her a little nerf, specifically the one that Otzdarva mentioned in one of his videos, so that unhooking a survivor isn't the crouching olympics. The idea was something like, if you unhook someone without activating the traps near, they deactivate for a couple of seconds so that you don't have to crouch your way in AND out. But other than that, I feel she's fairly balanced ---strong, but balanced.

If you find a player who is bad at the game, why would you not tunnel them? It’s an easy kill. Such a simple thing, why even have to explain it?

Because I usually play so that everyone can enjoy the game. Removing someone from the game without even giving them the possibility to do a gen, a totem, unhook their teammates or whatever else the game has to offer, feels wrong to me.

This is my personal decision, I know that you technically CAN tunnel if you want, and I also know that many survivors are little shits who don't care about the game being fun for the killer. But I'm trying to be kind, and not do what I hate being done to me if that makes sense.

Also, I often find that being kind to others makes them be kind to you in return, like a couple of days ago, when I let a console Meg escape through the gates, and one of the dead survivors told me she was his wife, thanked me for letting her escape and wished me good luck in the rest of my matches. Or when I decide to farm with survivors because one of their teammates DC'd, and they give me free kills when the match ends in return. It's those little things :)

  • The worst jumpscares usually come from ninja Michael to me, lol.

  • They are bad but it's been like this since I started playing a year ago. So I can't say it's any worse than it used to be for me.

  • He is OP, even in the most mediocre hands.

  • I had a lobby with two keys yesterday as Doctor, instead of sweating or dodging I decided to be friendly. We fooled around the entire match, they let me hook them, I let them stun me with pallets and that kinda stuff. Turned what would have been an annoying sweatfest into a wholesome match :)

  • Despite the new hud having more information overall, I feel that it being all over the place does not help.

  • I usually run different add-ons, but it depends on what I'm doing. I might stack two windstorms for Wraith for example. But on Legion I'd rather run an add-on so that the Feral Frenzy has more range of detection and one so that it lasts longer, so that I can actually get to those people I detected with the huge range without my power running out. And so.

I recommend reading this thread about their announcement: https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/217721/developer-update-january-2021

But that’s not all; once we are happy with matchmaking ratings and turn the system on for good, we’ll be introducing rank rewards. Since ranks will no longer be used for matchmaking, they will instead be repurposed to reward dedicated players. Each month, everyone will be given Bloodpoints based on the highest rank they’ve reached and then be reset to rank 20.

    And

Please note: These changes will not be available immediately alongside the 4.5.0 update. This system will require further testing before it is fully enabled.

That makes sense! I thought it would be announced right before it was re enabled so that's why I was confused. Thank you for letting me know!

  • Today I let a Meg escape through the gates after killing everyone else, and another one of the survivors told me that it was his wife playing that Meg and thanked me for letting her escape :) it was so adorable, idk why. I thought the others would be pissed that I killed them and let the last one go outta nowhere, but this happened instead :D

  • @Volcz said:

There's already a thread on this, and yes most of us can say the same as you. Red ranks coming across a lot more grey/yellow/green ranks than before the reset that just took place. Its very noticeable and any one that tells you otherwise is full of it.

Oh damn I'm sorry, I didn't see the other thread :( thank you for letting me know though!

  • Not everything needs a counter. If the killer closed the hatch, the match is pretty much over. Everyone else was dead, the killer did their job. If they decided to run a perk that happens to help them find people on doors, it's only fair that they get to use it.

Edit: just realized someone above me said the same thing so sorry about that lmao I wish you luck on your next matches then!! So this comment isn't completely pointless lol.

Two killers that are pretty oppressive but I main Spirit so who do I care 🤣

LMAO you get it then. If you want a less oppressive (?) but still fun killer you can go for Legion instead. The rebellious teens were my mains along with Spirit for a long time (currently trying to choose a new one lol) and I found them equally fun to play :D

  • Pyramid Head is fun and strong. Deathslinger is also fun.
