This isn't going to happen because it would take a lot of work and I'm not sure if it would have any benefit.

The idea that if you're using a particular perk you can't use this one may be too limiting too.

I've seen a lot of complaints about perk combos on both sides

Such conflicts already exist. A player gets no benefit at all running No Mither with either Self Care, Fixated, Inner Strength, For The People, Second Wind, Solidarity.

Not gonna lie should've changed my words. I know Haddonfield has been around a while. However without Ormond anymore will there be even more Haddonfields being burnt.

Meh. It might increase a little bit, but I don’t see them going crazy always burning haddonfield offerings at the expense of their own boredom.

  • There’s already a wealth of information perks any survivor can choose to equip if they want.

I quite regularly run bond, open handed, visionary, and windows of opportunity because of just how much information it provides, and how useful I can still be to other survivors.

Despite not running any of the meta perks, I can’t regularly outlast the other survivors running their DS, BT, and exhaustion perks.

  • New?!

Have I entered the twilight zone?!?!

SWF have been throwing down Strode Realty Keys ever since the inception of this map!

As long as Freddy can ignore BT there is nothing wrong with Freddy getting ######### on by Object. The advantage is way bigger than the disadvantage IMO.

    Exactly.

And far too many Freddy players disrespect how powerful Blindness is when an OoO is in the match.

OoO with Blindness is dead meat against Freddy.

  • It’s a perk that only really catches players off the first time, and only really only shines on Doc.

Overcharge is a perfect example of a perk designed with synergy in mind with their original killer.

For real? Like.... the only major problem that has had its own dedicated thread on the discussion board for like 4 years straight consistently because a new one is made every like 30 minutes? Like; that's one for example haha.

    That’s not an answer.

    Gen Rush?

    Tunnelling? Camping?

There’s a degree of accountability for the player before experiencing either of these.

A killer is free achieve their goals anyway they please as long as it isn’t breaking the game rules. That means a survivor should always expect tunnelling could be a possibility. With that in mind, is the player really, genuinely doing all they can to avoid the killers attention? Far too many survivors are deluded into playing this game in a way where the killer isn’t treated as a threat. They indeed are, and there exists the very real possibility that the loss of their first chase can be the end of the game for them.

Gen Rush? A killer needs to really look deep and hard, and have the humility to ask did they allow it to happen. No, of course a killer can’t be in more than one place at a time, but pretty much ALL killers can do SOMETHING to keep survivors out of a chase occupied with something else. Obviously not at the very start of the match, but as the match progresses.

Does the same go for survivors? Are they allowed to try to win as well because around here that feels like a big NOPE.

Of course. Killers need to grow up.

  • I mean what problems?

Seriously. What problems are so large in this game they need a dramatic fix to the base game?

  • I recently binged watched the excellent Ted Lasso, and a quote that stuck with me was “winning matters, and that’s ok”.

As long as a killer is playing within the bounds of the game rules, there is no grounds to complain, or expect the killer should play certain way just because someone DC, or because that killer is expected to know the difference between solos and SWF.

A player is allowed to play to win, and that’s perfectly ok.

  • I find this to be a very saddening perspective.

Sure, we all have our own personal ideas of what changes/improvements we’d like to see implemented.

But I don’t pretend to presume how a game studio is run, or speculate on the multitude of challenges specifically related to DBD each employee at BHVR deal with on a day to day basis.

Here are a few thoughts I will share from my collective wisdom being a borderline geriatric.

    • This game has come a long way. A HUGE way. From the large pool of perks, a growing roster of new killer powers, more maps, and changes to balance across a range of gameplay factors. None of these changes can be implemented without IDEAS. Ideas are only borne from thinking deeply and frequently about a concept (their product: DBD). People don’t expend that kind of mental energy on things they don’t care about. Anybody claiming that there is no labor of love from BHVR are fooling themselves.
    • For anybody continuing to play this game then it’s good enough, no matter how many different ways that player says “it’s not good enough”. If you play it, and play it regularly, that action alone says you’re happy enough with the current state of the game.
    • It’s madness to presume that due to long standing bugs persisting in this game that the devs don’t care, or can’t be bothered. Just go back and look at all the patch notes. You only need to look at a small number to see that the team that do bug fixes are extremely dedicated. Wherever a fix has been possible, they have implemented it. By that knowledge it’s reasonable to guess that these long running problems are still presenting significant challenges. Perhaps the range of fixes they’ve tested so far have caused more problems than they fix? Who knows. What I can safely presume is that they DO care, and they DON’T ignore bugs.
    • Lastly, I know for a fact that nothing demotivates anyone, and eventually leads to them giving up entirely, quite like a constant implied flood of “not good enough”. These forums, and social media channels, good grief, I feel TERRIBLE for the mods here. I’m sure there is a lot here the mods choose NOT to forward onto the devs because of how mentally damaging some of it would be. This constant implication of “the devs don’t care”, but then there is so much de-motivational stuff posted every minute that it doesn’t matter how resilient the people at BHVR are, they WILL eventually stop caring. If we want them to continue caring, we need to stop posting stuff that would lead them down a path of no longer caring.
  • @Zagrid said:

    1. Its not a problem with the game its a problem with the community. There are too many survivors queuing compared to killers. So telling BHVR to "fix the queue times" it useless.
    2. You want to know why everyone plays survivor compared to killer? Killer is 1000x more stressful and 1000x less fun compared to survivor games. Especially compared to survivor SWF games.
    3. If you don't like long queues go help the problem by playing killer. Or keep playing survivor and t bag every killer at the exit gates. Soon they will swap to survivor too and your queues will keep getting longer.

Survivors wonder why their queues are so long when the match before hand they 4 man escape against a clown with no add ons while using the exact build of Dead hard, DS, Unbreakable, and borrowed time. And rub every second chance in his face, t bagging and pointing along the way.

TLDR. Killer is unfun and stressful so no one plays it. So there are too many survivors for too few killers.

I’d like to add that it’s not just simply a lack of killers during peak periods (although that is indeed a factor).

It’s also that 4 man and 3 man teams clog the queues as well. I’m not saying they’re bad. Just that when you have solos and 2 man teams waiting for free spots in the queues, they’re inevitably going to be waiting a long time.

  • @Cabbage said:

I don't know about everyone other region, but I know for the Australian and New Zealand servers, queue times are instant for survivor in the morning and take about 10-15 minutes at night. And vice versa for killer.

Yep. Can confirm. Survivor queues in Australia are awful in the evening. So I’ll switch to killer and be reminded of why I hate playing killer in the evening.

BHVR can’t fix the queue problem. It’s a community problem and survivor “pissing contest” problem.

  • @Yords said:

I am not sure if the devs have said anything regarding survivor queue times lately. They are insanely long most of the time either with or without crossplay and it doesn't really matter what time of day it is. It is so consistently long.

It is painfully annoying to sit there in a lobby for 5 + minutes each time and I am pretty sure it has been like this for months.

I think there was a drop in killers due to a misunderstanding about the BL experiment. I.e. I’m guessing a lot presumed it was a permanent change, and are not happy about it.

Also 4 and 3 man squads clog queues as well. This isn’t me having a dig at 4 and 3 man SWF. It’s just inevitable during peak periods of SWF groups that this is going to prolong the wait times for solos or even duo SWF.

  • This is what annoys me about the mentality of many players: the killers are MEANT to be a threat. There are killers in this game where it’s INTENTIONAL for a survivor to have next to no chance against in a chase.

The “counter” to killers with a strong chase ability is STEALTH!!!

I.e. these are killers you’re SUPPOSED play cautiously against, and do what’s necessary to try and avoid getting into a chase with them in the first place.

There's no faster way to grow to hate someone than to use entire build designed to support someone other than you have them sandbag and farm you.

I hope you didn’t think I was implying you post millions of sarcastic posts. I was speaking generally of these forums.

  • @TWiXT said:

Ok, so first here's the list of unbiased "rules" I follow:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/163010/for-the-new-players

(View the actual post, the preview seems screwy for some reason, it's leaving out the last letter of every paragraph, and adding a weird set of letters with odd punctuation near the end)

I've always played by these rules, and win or lose, I've never begrudged a killer or survivor for whatever build, character, items, perks, or strategies they bring in. This is a multiplayer game of a type (asymmetrical) that has always proven to be nigh impossible to balance. While there are many discussed points I Agree upon, wherein the game could use some tweaks towards balance, the majority of posts complaining about the mechanics of the game are simply insulting, and irritating beyond measure.

It seems that while no one knows or cares about the rules I follow, many have lost the idea regarding what this game is about and will ######### and moan about any and every perceived "injustice" in the game in an effort to try and persuade the devs to agree with their side; read: "main". I understand why you do it, Hell, I'm even responsible for a few "suggestions" myself in the past that favored one side unfairly over the other, but have overall learned that the posts I make that try to keep "The overall Balance" as it stands in mind, are the only ones anyone actually listens to.

Yet, these forums are littered with endless and banal complaints that are heavily biased towards one side or the other, and honestly, I've become sick of it! If you have a genuine concern that hasn't already been addressed in previous posts (please do a search before posting) then by all means post about it! Otherwise, please, ask yourself what you are wanting to say, whether or not you are just trying to make things easier for the side you play, reflect upon it, and see if anyone else has the same concerns, BEFORE you create a new post. I am so tired of seeing these same posts reiterated every day:

"X is OP, PLz nERf", "X is "unfun" Because", "X is OP" and of course "X has no counter-play!"

While some of these are legit concerns regarding balance, the majority of them amount to little more than banal whining that not only irritates everyone else here, but also obscures the legit concern posts which end up becoming lost in the pile of garbage posts.

IF you have something good to debate with the community that is well thought out, based upon plentiful experience and non-biased, then by all means: your post is very welcome here. Otherwise, If you're just venting or trying to convince the devs to make changes based upon a Biased point of view... you're only hurting the communities/your sides reputation, and the devs opinions of those of us with legitimate concerns.

Please, for the sake of everyone here, consider and research what you want to post about before you clutter up the forums with more "banal whining". I know this game can be frustrating, and I know it has it's imbalances, but if you just want to whine or complain about something: rethink it, check if anyone else has already made the complaint first, and above all, try to keep an unbiased Point of View regarding the Balance of the game in mind before you make your post.

I love this game, and I love this community, but coming to these forums Day after Day and seeing the same stuff being posted in repeat for equally asinine reasons has become tiring, and I'm certain that I'm not the only one who feels this way.

Do what I do, like I posted about a few weeks back: scroll past them.

At some point playing this game you get experienced enough that most of what’s complained about are really non issues. (Yeah, ok, I’ll admit even some of the things I rant about sometimes. It’s usually about venting more than anything).

You can plead all you like, there is always going to be a rotation/resurgence of Spirit OP, NOED broken, DS broken, “I lost therefore game is unbalanced, blah blah.

In fairness, we’ve all been there. We all go through our phase of “this is BS” and “that is BS”.

Now if a post title implies its aboyt any of this ad nauseam crap, i just scroll past.

Its much healthier to ignore it.

I agree. It is heartwarming when this stuff occurs.

Not to mention this crap of a perk only works during the struggle phase of the hook. Camaraderie should straight up pause the hook timer at all times while the killer is within 32 meters of the hook - but only prior to five generators being completed. The counter is to go pressure gens and find other survivors...

32 metres is a bit too strong. A killer could not even intend to camp. It could just be that chases and gens survivors keep coming back to are within that same radius.

Recently, I've been using Dying Light a lot, and I've found that it is surprisingly effective in a lot of my games. Is Dying Light actually an underrated and amazing perk, or am I somehow a God?

It’s GOOD if your focus is anti-heal rather than gen slow down.

That might sound strange considering the altruism buff The Obsession gets, but if it’s stacked with Sloppy (and Coulrophobia if you want to be evil), it can cause The Obsession to make risky/reckless plays that can lead to easy hits/snowballs.

What does Dead man's Switch do? I'm fairly new and haven't heard of it.

DMS is one of Deathslinger’s perks.

When you hook The Obsession it activates for 35/40/45 seconds. During this time gens being repaired by survivors that stop repairing them, either by being chased off, failed skill check, or an interruption like Shock/Static Blast causes the entity to block those gens until DMS timer expires.

  • Retribution + Undying is fun for the memes.

  • @MrLimonka said:

    Furtive chase + Rancor

It's a rancor roulette, where the survivors are scared of unhooking the obsession if they know you have rancor. It can really make a match entertaining.

Not really meta, but it's very fun and gives furtive chase actual value

I like doing this occasionally too. I’ll add in Nemesis so that hopefully it hides the tells that I’m running Rancor.

Best part about doing this at endgame? Suspect someone doing a save has DS because they were recently unhooked? Just mori them.

  • Forced Penance is one of my favourite perks released over the past year.

I like “keep them injured” builds and slugging builds.

One of my regular “go to” combos for a long time has always been Coulrophobia + Sloppy. It’s surprisingly devastating as a slugging build due to the sheer volume of survivors that are far too altruistic for their own good, rushing in to try and revive a slug before I’ve gotten too far away, only for me to notice out the corner of my eye. It results in WAY too many easy hits and it keeps that slug on the ground, even at high ranks, whereby they stubbornly persist trying to help their teammate till I’m on their butt.

Forced Penance compliments this incredibly well. It completely puts survivors on edge while they’re Broken, and usually will refrain from helping other survivors if I’m still nearby. In this way you can say it kind of acts like NOED. And it’s surprising just how often Forced Penance activates. It’s awesome quickly injuring two survivors, letting the Broken get away (for now), downing the injured one, slug, then relocate the Broken one for a quick easy chase because you know they can’t heal.

  • You’d be better off running both TT and Deadman’s Switch on Doc. Still play as you would normally with TT, but If you down The Obsession, save your Static Blast till AFTER you hook The Obsession. TT will let you know which area to best go to to have your Static Blast hit as many of those gens as possible. Now those gens will be blocked for the entire duration of DMS activation. I’ve managed to block up to 3 gens instantly this way.

I feel it's just another anti-slugging perk. Can't say how strong it will be as it needs flip flop or tenacity to have any value.

It’ll be another perk whereby it has an effect whether the survivor has it equipped or not. I think many killers from now on seeing one of their slugs have crawled to a pallet will now wonder if they have flip flop and power struggle.

  • @[Deleted User] said:

I genuinely can't think of a reason to play the Twins. Charlotte is completely powerless. Victor can be kicked away, can't hook, can't injure the same survivor consecutively, and can be taken for 45 seconds at a time. I truly think this will be a bottom tier killer.

I feel bad for the devs.

It’s clear that this was a passion project for them based on the tweets they were posting leading up to the reveal (most being French/Canadian themselves).

And its great that they’re pushing themselves to come up with unexpected concepts for killers.

Blight being a “pinball” killer was a real curve ball.

But it saddens me and concerns me that so much focus was put into the creative side things, and they were seemingly blind to all of these issues with The Twins before launching the PTB.

Thats not to say that I imply things should be in a finished state for a PTB. That’s silly and would make a PTB pointless. But that they truly couldn’t “think tank” any of these problematic scenarios in house during their design and build time is bad.

I’m sure they’re feeling very embarrassed right now, and I feel bad for them, because they were so optimistic that they thought everybody was going to think that this was their best chapter to date.

  • @Warcrafter4 said:

Their only special thing they have is technically being able to be in 2 places at once almost unconditionally.

The hag needs her traps to be set off to be effectively in 2 places at once while all the twins need is to not have victor being punted to be in 2 places at once.

Other then that: Their broken status isn't special and legion can apply it for 60 seconds with an add-on and plague by default.

Victor's lunge is just a demo shred aimed slightly upwards.

They can't hide on buildings due to the 3 second timer before victor is forcibly recalled.

Trapper can already trap survivors in lockers with his bear traps so that's not even special.

The pig can force people to take off their trap power before they can leave(But her Mories unlike the twins if they try to escape)

The nurse can physically bypass pallets in a much better way the twins can.

Their group base Killer Instinct is just worse then legion's as legion can proactively use that information for more damage.

Hag's traps give about as much information as victor while possibly punishing survivors who trip them(Instead of punishing the killers by having victor being punted).

    There's not much else positive.

For special negative exclusive to the Twins: They are the only offensively attackable and killable killer(EI not light burning as that only stuns/pallets are defensive by nature).

They have one of the only powers that can be literally kidnapped leaving them as a powerless M1 killer.

They are the only killer whose can have their power destroyed mid chase in less then one second with no negative ramifications.

For clarification, a survivor is only Broken while they have Victor on them? And if so, incapacitated stops them from healing/being healed anyway, so Broken is a bit redundant anyway?

Or does Broken persist if they remove Victor?

  • Old Freddy.

Some days I really REALLY want to play as old Freddy.

  • @Warcrafter4 said:

Also one thing I need to bring up about the doctor in the past is treatment mode let the doctor spam M1 to grab without attacking so the doctor could ALWAYS win a hook stand off.

This meant he could camp without the possbility of a non trade rescue happening.

Aka once people figured out the grab spam in his treatment mode he could camp hard. Sometimes even harder then bubba.

Will admit I was guilty of doing this myself at endgame. Add in Fire Up and it was possible to grab and drop before another survivor was able to finish their unhook action and then Doc could grab them too.

  • @Yamaoka said:

Before his rework you had to switch between treatment and punishment (hitting) mode. This action took around 1 second (can't remember the exact value).

You were unable to hit survivors while in treatment (shocking) mode. As a result his anti loop was meh to say the least.

He also didn't have static blast before his rework. Instead every survivor gained madness over time while standing inside his terror radius. So his tracking was good but still nothing compared to static blast.

It also made him much more of a prick to deal with if he 3 gen’d the team. Especially on Gideon, and because snapping out of it only reduced madness back down to tier 2. Double stack passive madness add ons, and doing the last gen was just horrible.

  • I almost always run Bond and Open Handed for many many reasons. One of them is because it can act like a semi Spine Chill. If a see a survivor suddenly running, I immediately go on the Alert in case a chase or the killer is coming my way.

One of the things I am sick to death of that happens more regularly than it should is when someone brings a chase my way when I’m on a gen I’ve almost finished repairs on, the killer is then diverted to me. It’s such a prick move. I really don’t care if you spotted a safe pallet near me. If you see flashing gen lights, DON’T bring that chase there!!! What’s the point of wasting as much of the killer’s time as possible if you are then going to ACTIVELY play a part in PREVENTING repairs!!!

This goes for when someone leads a chase back to somebody hooked or slugged. No! Don’t be such a troll to your team!!! Switch this game off and play something else.

Midwich is actually extremely powerful for survivors, imo. Only problem with the map for me is if I'm not being chased, I have no idea where gens are, so I'm pretty much useless.

I'm not gonna go into it when Cru5h has already explained my main points and then some. Just look up "Cru5h Midwich" on YouTube.

This is why I actually like Visionary.

Been playing for 3.5 years, but none of that experience helps on maps like Midwich, Lery’s, or Hawkins.
